Progress Update - 3/4/24
Hello and happy March!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? 😅 Well, I finally have some good news for you this time: I have some actual news!
I'm happy to be able to announce at last that an update is on its way! I’ve still got some assets to make and code cleanup and testing to finish, but I should finally have something to show you soon.
I’ll put a cut at the end of this and go into more detail about the what and why of what I’ve been working on during this long and unintended hiatus, but the tl;dr is that I hope to have an update out by the end of the month, and that said update will break any saves made in Chapter 4. Unfortunate, but unavoidable, since Chapter 4 had to be recoded from the beginning 😞
I just want to thank all of you once again for sticking with me through my extended silence! Especially to my patrons who’ve put up with me putting everything on pause month after month while I dealt with my real life shit, and to everyone who’s sent me kind and supportive messages to let me know Speaker hasn’t been forgotten. It really means a lot to me.
Okay, enough of that sappy shit! I’m gonna get back to work finishing this up 😁 I’ll put out another update later this month once I have a more definite release date.
Thank you all for reading! I hope you’re having a fantastic 2024 so far, and that the rest of the week treats you kindly. See y’all soon! 💙💙💙
(For those who want a more detailed breakdown on what’s been happening and what to expect, hit the readmore)
I won’t go into the personal life stuff I’ve been dealing with this past year that has slowed down my work, but as far as the actual game goes:
To put it simply, I just wasn’t happy with it. Some of it could be because of how many times I had to reread the same section while I was coding the scenes that would’ve taken place after the last update, but no matter how much I edited or rearranged it, I didn’t like how that scene turned out. There was something… formulaic that had been happening with the way I always laid out scenes, and a bit of stagnation in the story, character, and relationship development that bothered me.
So I rewrote it. And when I still didn’t like it, I rewrote it again. And I still didn’t like it. I thought about scrapping the whole thing on more than one occasion as I struggled to get out of the corner I’d written myself into.
Inspiration finally struck at the beginning of this year, thanks in part to another interactive novel I follow, and I really like the direction I’ve taken it now.
Instead of the RO split scenes happening where the last one left off, Speaker, Seer, and Gavin are gonna have a chat about Things™ to move the next story arc forward. Then Speaker will get some downtime, by themself at first and then in an extended scene split with the RO of their choosing.
All the Big Plot Things that were going to happen in Chapter 4 will be moved to Chapter 5 instead, and 4 will be a bit more of a filler episode. A deep breath before the plunge, as it were.
This split won’t just be a quick conversation/reaction from the RO, but a full on different direction for the rest of the chapter based on who you choose. Most of them will involve leaving the house; all of them will involve actual one-on-one time (or one-on-two time, as the case may be) away from the others. And though romance isn’t required, all of them will have the potential to really move the romance forward if you so choose. One or two might even have a lock-in choice (maybe. I’m not 100 percent on that, so don’t hold me to it)
These scenes won’t be in the next update, because they’re all very complex, but the update will definitely have the Seer chat and at least some of the by-yourself stuff. The update after will have the rest of the alone time stuff (including the clothes/body CC you’ve all been waiting for), and then the one after will start the RO scenes. I think.
I may actually split the RO scenes into separate updates, and let my darlings over at Patreon vote for the order they’re released. That way I can focus on one at a time instead of trying to split my attention six ways at once.
Okay, that’s enough rambling for me today. Time to get back to work! Still got a lot to get done before this is ready, but it’s so close now.

Im curious about what is cannon and fannon in the AC fandom. Ive read many different origins for the scar Desmond has, but most people go with Bill being the one to give it to him. Is this because its cannon from a little known source(similiar to the fact that Altaïr can swim, as seen in the 3ds games, but most people make him unable to swim despite the fact) or is it widely accepted fannon? What about Masyaf castle? Ive read some fics about it being an Abstergo facility with the Templars having opened the Library, while others write it is just been left to time. And ofc cant forget Eagle Vision. Is it a unique ability to Altaïr only? Did his father have it too? Did every novice have to master it before becoming an assassin?
There could be others, but these are the facts that im mostly curious about. Thank you for answering. ^^
So I’m gonna break this into sections so I don’t have to think about scene transition or whatever rambling equivalent that has.
Altaïr Can Swim
We all accept that he can’t swim because that’s funny. However, if we take into consideration how Altaïr can swim as seen in his ‘sequel’, this is pretty much the complete opposite of “Altaïr has never been hit” status that he has in the fandom. They both causes desyncing so if we believe in “Altaïr has never been hit” then it’s not that Altaïr can’t swim, it’s that “Altaïr never slipped or fell into the waters” which actually points more to Altaïr being a badass. But we decided that Altaïr not being able to swim is a much funnier idea and went to town with it XD
Bill Being The Reason Desmond Has His Scar
Okay, so ngl, I also liked to write that Bill is the reason Desmond has a scar, either directly or indirectly (I mostly go for indirectly with another kid being the reason why he has a scar but Bill was there ‘supervising’), mostly because I like the plot point that getting the scar is the thing that finally snaps Desmond and got him to leave the Farm ‘randomly’.
Anyway, the canon/fanon blur a lot in this one as there are enough people that believe Bill made the scar as seen by this post.
My thoughts on that is pretty much summarized in the tags I left in that one:
#wait it's official? #or did we as a fandom just collectively saw how bill treated desmond and went #ah yes he's why desmond has that scar #seriously i hc it and it makes sense narratively for bill to be the reason why desmond has a scar #whether from training or by accident #but i don't remember it being even implied in any games #especially in ac rev where it could have easily been added in
To add to that, I’m talking about AC Revelations specifically because of Desmond’s rant in an early scene where he finally shouts at Bill for being a bad father. That was the perfect time to just drop that bombshell of Bill being the reason why Desmond has his scar but we didn’t get that. That’s the main reason why I don’t think it’s canon that Bill is the reason why Desmond got his scar but there’s 3 more scenes in AC Revelations where he could have talked about it, all of them from Desmond’s memories scenes.
I also talked about how I couldn’t find any evidence of Bill being the reason that Desmond got his scar in this post.
But the summary is I tried looking for any information about it in the books, pamphlet, manuals and references I had (I say ‘had’ because I had to leave them back in my old home after I moved due to space constraints TTATT), only focusing on any mentions of Desmond and Bill
Assassin's Creed Limited Edition Art Book (p40-41)
Assassin's Creed The Complete Visual History (p290 -292) - p291 has the line "... Desmond's father, William, adds an element of family drama..." calling it family drama sounds like an understatement considering how Bill and Desmond act around each other
Assassin's Creed The Essential Guide (p14, 66, 161, 218-219, 236, 238, 240) - this book is so weird. P218 says that Bill and Gavin shared the mentor role after the Great Purge, p237 says that only Bill took the mentor role (but didn't call himself the mentor) after the Great Purge
Assassin's Creed Atlas (p159, 165)
Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia (White Version) (p18, 158-183)
Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia (White Version - JP ver) (p18, 158-183)
Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia (Black Version - JP ver) (p17, 113-127) - The Black Version is an older version, only going as far as AC Revelations + The Fall comics, The White Version has up to 3 + Liberation
No mentions at all about Desmond's relationship with Bill in the following:
That short game manual that's inside the game disc for AC1-AC3 (JP ver)
Assassin's Creed Reference Guide (JP)
Assassin's Creed Perfect Guide (JP)
Assassin's Creed 2 Reference Guide (JP)
Assassin's Creed Archive Book (JP)
In conclusion:
The most I got can be summarized from Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia, p182
"... driven, intelligent but emotionally distant father of Desmond Miles..." " ... technically minded man, fully devoted to the Assassins and their cause, whose passion for politics outweighs his responsibility to his family. While William's wife has always been able to deal with this emotional distance, young Desmond could not. Eventually he grew to feel that his father was more of a drill sergeant than a parent and fled the compound, despite his parents' repeated warnings to never leave."
If Bill did directly or indirectly cause Desmond's scar, I could not find it in the official books I have or even on Desmond's or Bill's AC Wiki page.
Unless someone can point out where it officially states that Bill caused Desmond's scar, I believe the whole "Bill is the reason for Desmond's scar" is AC fandom's own Mandela Effect. Most probably something that started as a headcanon (and for a very good reason) and is commonly used by fanfic writers (including me) which has evolved as a Word of Dante that we, as a collective, have mistaken as a Word of God.
Masyaf’s Current Situation
There’s no official note of the current situation of Masyaf in the modern days and I think Ubisoft would probably not do anything about it narrative-wise… I’d honestly be surprised if they did anything about it if they make an AC1 Remake. Now, it’s a bit nebulous if the Templars did manage to get the library but it should be noted that the last time we see Altaïr’s Apple, Ezio let it stay in the library and the ACR novel gave us:
“The bookshop was used as an outpost for the Assassins, and Ezio stored the Masyaf Keys in the chamber where he had found the first key, underneath the bookshop.”
If the Templars got into the bookshop then they’ll find all the keys and would have everything they needed to get into the library.
However…
The Apple would find itself in the hands of Queen Elizabeth I and Mahatma Gandhi before falling into Templar hands.
As far as I can see, Queen Elizabeth I isn’t a Templar so it’s highly possible that the British Empire did their usual ‘finders keepers’ thing and this wasn’t a nefarious Templar plan. So either Ezio got the Apple out of Masyaf and hid it somewhere else that would later be found by someone (maybe John Dee?) or Ezio… just left it in Masyaf?
I wanna give Ezio the benefit of the doubts and believe that he knew leaving it in Masyaf would be such a bad idea so the Apple was most probably transferred somewhere else.
Which means that Masyaf was completely abandoned by the end of Ezio’s era which Ezio would have believed be something that Altaïr wanted to happen.
I realized now I’m rambling further and further away from the actual topic for this section.
In conclusion: we have no idea if Masyaf is abandoned or occupied by the Templars in modern day. I will also add if it’s occupied by Templars, it might be a secret ‘base’ or it’s affiliated with a non-Abstergo Entertainment section of Abstergo because, as far as I can see, Abstergo Entertainment’s headquarters are based on existing Ubisoft headquarters (ex: Black Flag’s Abstergo Entertainment is in Montreal = Ubisoft Montreal)
Personally, I think that Abstergo would take over Masyaf castle either officially or unofficially as a way to show the Brotherhood how they hold one of the most important locations in their history. That’s the kind of power play the current Inner Sanctum would do.
(It would be funny in a ‘that’s fucked up’ kind of way if Masyaf is an Abstergo secret facility that does experimental work with captured Assassins as guinea pigs which they have done in the Philadelphia facility (Fall comics) and Madrid (AC Movie))
Eagle Vision
It was actually never explicitly stated who had Eagle Vision and who hadn’t but it’s noted that humans, in general, have the capability to unlock Eagle Vision although there are humans who has an easier time unlocking it.
AC1 noted that the Levantine Assassins knew about Altaïr’s Eagle Vision but there’s no evidence to suggest that they have it as well. Most of the time, they just tell Altaïr to use his vision without saying if they have it as well or not.
(it’s just personal preference to write that 12th century Assassins, both in Masyaf and Alamut, would have some form of Eagle Vision to show how much the Brotherhood had ‘fallen’ in the modern day. Canon actually points that only a small number of people can access Eagle Vision)

Gavin confused as to why nines is giving him so many gifts
Thank you for the prompt! This was the only one I got, so I went ahead and wrote a whole fic for it lol
If there was one place that Gavin couldn’t be said to be disorganized, it was his desk. His closet? There was stuff in there he’d lost back in 2029. Fridge? The amount of expired condiments lost in behind his recent purchases could make a health inspector cry. His own pockets? He lost his keys at least 2 times a day, and was always finding random receipts he’d shoved in his jeans and forgotten about until after they’d gone through the wash.
But his desk? He kept that thing clean, organized, and free of clutter. His work was everything to him, so every shred of his executive function went first and foremost to making sure he could find everything he needed at a moment’s notice.
Which was why the recent additions to the desk were getting to be pretty annoying.
It had started with a small stuffed bulldog. The thing had appeared one morning while he was on a coffee break, returning to find it sitting behind his keyboard. He’d blinked, looking around for the source, but seeing nobody nearby except his partner, Nines, who was sitting at their half of the shared desk, he shrugged it off. It wasn’t taking up much room, and if someone liked him enough to gift him something dumb and cute like that, he wasn’t going to complain. Most of his coworkers steered clear of him, so it was nice to be appreciated for once.
If that had been all, it would have been fine. But more things kept appearing over the coming days. A small potted cactus. A tiny fishbowl, empty of water but painted on the inside with little fish. A die where instead of numbers, each side displayed a different insult - that, he had laughed at. A month later and it was starting to get a little ridiculous. Most of his desk space had been taken over by the little knickknacks, to the point that he barely had room to put his coffee down. If the DPD were still using physical files, he’d already have had to shove some of them to the floor so he could work.
When he got back from a scene one day and trudged off to the bathroom, only to come back and find a tooth-shaped stress ball in the one space he had left for his coffee mug, it was the last straw.
“Goddamnit,” he grouched as he sat in his chair, spinning it to face Nines’ side of the desk. “Hey, tincan, you see who keeps leaving this crap on my desk?” He could have asked the android before, but he was having fun trying to guess who it was. It really needed to stop before he was drowning in the random shit that kept getting left for him, though.
Nines’ LED switched from the calm blue it had been projecting to red, surprising Gavin. It changed back almost immediately, the android having hacked the thing ages back so they wouldn’t be broadcasting their emotional state constantly, but Gavin knew what he’d seen. “I’m afraid I do not know, detective.”
“…really?” Gavin asked, “You’ve been sitting there the whole time, and you haven’t once seen who keeps leaving stuff here? I find that hard to believe.”
The android was silent for a moment. “I have been… very consumed by my work.”
Bullshit. “You’re telling me Mx. Best Android Ever can’t connect to the computer system and watch the bullpen at the same time? Even Connor can do that.” He knew bringing up the RK900’s predecessor would be a hit to their pride, and as expected, Nines looked annoyed at the comparison. “Seriously, just tell me. If they swore you to secrecy or something, I promise I won’t let them know it was you.”
Nines looked at him with an unreadable expression, and Gavin waited, giving them a few seconds to come to a decision. Finally, they said, “…I am the one who has been gifting you with that ‘crap’, detective.”
…well, shit.
Gavin winced, realising he’d just insulted the android right in front of them. “Shit, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that,” he said. “It’s just a lot of sh- stuff. And it’s cluttering up my desk. One or two things, fine, god knows everyone else around here has got enough personal affects to stage a garage sale in the break room, but this is getting excessive.”
LED cycling blue in a steady pattern that Gavin knew meant they were controlling it, Nines looked down at his desk, taking in the lack of space between all the random items that had accumulated there. “Oh,” they said quietly, “I see. My apologies, detective, I didn’t consider that my gifts might be taking up space you find valuable. I can remove them for you at the end of our shift.”
They turned back to their computer, as if Gavin was going to let the conversation end there. “You don’t have to remove them,” Gavin sighed. “I mean, I do need the desk space, but I can bring them home with me. You’ve just gotta stop adding more, or else my apartment will be taken over by this stuff, too.”
Their light cycled a natural yellow. “Understood. I only had two more gifts for you, anyway.”
“Oh, well, I guess I can take those, if there’s no more after that. But I gotta ask,” Gavin added, “whyre you leaving gifts on my desk, anyway? It’s not my birthday or anything, and even if it was, you would have given me more than enough presents to cover that a few weeks ago. Is there some android holiday I don’t know about? Shit, was I supposed to get you something?”
That brought a small, rare smile to their lips. “No, detective, there are no holidays at this time. If there were, I’m sure Connor would have outdone me in that regard with the lieutenant.” They seemed to hesitate for a moment before continuing. “They are… gifts of thanks.”
“Thanks for what?” Gavin asked, frowning as he tried to remember if he’d done anything last month to bring this about.
“For deviating me,” Nines told him. “The anniversary of my deviation is in two days.”
“Oh,” it was Gavin’s turn to say. He had only been told the android’s deviation was due to him, rather snidely, by Connor a few weeks after the fact. “Well, damn. I didn’t exactly do that on purpose, tincan. And you probably shouldn’t be thanking the guy who annoyed you into deviancy.” He looked back down at his desk, then asked, “And if that’s in two days, why’ve you been giving me stuff all month?”
“Because one month ago was the anniversary of when we were partnered,” the android answered, smiling. “And I can assure you, detective, you did not annoy me into deviancy. You did annoy me,” they added, “but that was not why I deviated. I had already been activated for six months before I came to the DPD, after all the efforts of Markus and the others at Jericho failed to break through my programming. Only for you to cause me to deviate within just a month of our meeting.”
Gavin frowned. “How…”
In answer, the android pulled out one of their desk drawers, taking something out and setting it on the desk beside them. Gavin stared at the tiny stuffed hippo in front of him, not understanding the significance.
“You gave me this when it came with the food you ordered,” Nines explained. “Despite how much you seemed to dislike me, you thought of me when you needed someone to give it to. I had never been given a gift before.”
“That’s what made you deviate?” Gavin asked, “Not, I dunno, the dozen or so times I threatened to throw you into a trash compactor the first week?”
“It was eleven times,” they corrected, “and yes. I had been programmed to withstand all manner of ill treatment and abuse so that I would not succumb to deviation. And the efforts of Jericho were never going to work, because I knew that everything they were doing was only because they wanted me to deviate. But you… You showed me kindness with no ulterior motive, a fact I could be certain of because you had made it quite clear that you did not want anything from me. So, if it were not for you being yourself,” Nines summarized, “I may never have deviated.”
Well, that was… a lot to get hit with on a Monday morning. “You still didn’t need to get me this many gifts,” he said, “but, uh, you’re welcome, I guess? And thanks. Some of this stuff is pretty neat.”
The smile they gave him at that had him turning his eyes back to his own computer to hide the red that rose to his face, even though he knew Nines would be able to tell from scanning him. They didn’t comment on it, thank fuck.
Later that day, when their shift ended, Gavin pushed all the things on his desk that he wouldn’t risk breaking into his bag, and carried the rest out to his car in his arms so he could take them home. His cat was about to get a lot more stuff to swat off of his shelves.
He did decide to leave behind the little stuffed bulldog Nines had gotten him. Just to give his desk a little personality so it didn’t look so sad.
If it happened to find a companion in the form of a blue hippo that had been given its own place on Nines’ desk, well. That was complete coincidence, an he would threaten violence on anyone who implied otherwise.

Ok, people talk a lot of shit about Gavin but how come we don’t talk about the fact that Gavin can take Connor in a fight and win?!
Idk about you but to me, that’s pretty damn impressive considering that Connor is literally built to be an unstoppable machine.
Gav can fight for sure, and yeah, it's pretty impressive.
One can ofc say it's for gameplay reasons, but he's a cop. Learning to fight is part of the police academy training program. He's also not used to losing fights. That much is proven by his taken-aback facial expression right before he gets knocked out.
Considering that Echo and Ripple -- the two Tracis who just knock Con to the ground if you miss a certain amount of QTEs -- were...
incapable of feeling physical pain
using tools at their disposal (screwdriver/heels)
built to be flexible
double-teaming Con (...and not in a fun way)
it's worthy of note that Gav -- a human -- can win a 1v1 against Con. A machine that can literally go up against an entire CyberLife SWAT team. Even when hitting all the QTEs, the (optional) fight scene lasts for a while from a practical standpoint. Until Con uses a cheap 'instant unconsciousness' technique that very few ppl can pull off. Stunning someone with this method is one thing, and almost anyone can do that, but knocking someone unconscious with it isn't an easy feat. I'm just glad he didn't kill him (...and anyone who thinks differently about that has serious mental issues + should seek professional help.)
Neil Newbon (Gav's voice + mo-cap actor) did say Gav gets into a lot of bar fights bc he "can't keep his mouth shut." If I remember right, he mentioned this when talking about what he and Cage had agreed upon. So that makes it canon.

8th March ‘24 - [arch] colour!!!! community!!!
Hey Shri! <3
Wow!!!! I’ve seen the finished Brothers Lionheart cover already, but those thumbnails are just incredible. I know you plan to move away from the dark/horror vibes of those images but they’re so impactful!! For sure save those compositions for something else. You’ve put so so much thought into those compositions, it’s inspiring me to put that level of thought into my images too. It's nuts!!!
So y’know how the plan for this blog was to take it easy and do a little at a time? Maybe just pop in and update each other on what we’ve been working on, or even what’s been inspiring us? Well, we haven’t exactly been taking it easy have we :// At the beginning of writing this I thought it was gonna be a chill one but,,, it turned out not to be.
I was lucky enough to be back in Cardiff for a bit the other week, so I hit up the Riso studio. It was super lovely seeing everyone - really made me realise the value of having an artistic community. (for context, I have been travelling recently and it’s been weird, after uni, to not be surrounded by other illustrators)
About once a month, my shared print studio has an event called Open Haus, where we’re open to the public but also loads of members will come in, have a cuppa and a biscuit and talk about art stuff. I happened to be doing some riso printing and Gavin, who’s a right babe and an excellent riso artist, was once again giving me a hand. I love working with other people in the studio, bouncing ideas off them. It sometimes helps me get out of my head (though with practice, I’m also learning to do that by myself!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s a bit of development work for the print I did a few days before printing. It was actually a bit of development for my comfort characters’ home - but as you know i love building my skills through fun things like that! Trick yourself in to improving xD
Tumblr media
This is the print I made!! It’s titled ‘Space Fyn’, named after a place I associate with home <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ran into a bit of an issue with the blue, which I originally planned to use. Once I printed it, I hated it (blehhhhhh), so! We tried a mint out instead. I still didn’t like it. But thankfully, Gavin did this thing where he made me step back and view it from afar and then I liked it again (this has happened twice now I think I need to learn to step back without his help ://) Also, there were about 10 people in the studio, and they all voted on the mint, so I printed a run of 15! (ps. you can order them by dming me on Instagram)
Later, I was showing a friend the progress and she made some great points. The dark blue gives more of an evening vibe, while the mint gives more of a sunrise vibe, a bit brighter. But also, it totally changes the tone! This has led me to think more about how different colours can be used for particular vibes :0 and how can we bend that and make it more interesting than ‘red danger’ and ‘blue sad’.
Some notes I took from our conversation
Looking at colours in particular genres (they are used differently in specific ways in different contexts)
for example in Westerns, good guys wearing a white hat and bad guys wearing black hats - misc characters wearing brown.
Light sabres in Star Wars very clearly symbolising ideology
Characters attached to colour - she uses blue and red to symbolise characters that oppose each other in some way, for example.
Character designs, using colours that match well for more grounded characters, and colours that clash for more unstable characters
Power rangers!!
What colour is your ‘normal’ for the world? And how will specific characters break that or blend in?
All of these are just prompts and thinking points of course, it’ll take a lot of exploring to know how i want to apply these to my work.
I was lucky enough to attend Plymouth Comic and Zine fair!!!!! (this is me :0 !!)
It was very lovely, I really enjoyed seeing people from uni, the general Plymouth illustration scene, and those few illustrators you know but only really see at fairs. I also got the opportunity to have some awesome chats about illustration (shoutout to that one hermitcraft fan who let me ramble about Minecraft builds and setting design for a bit <3). I had a chat with the wonderful Ben Wright and Jess Holloway about colours, especially in narrative, and here are some ideas I took away from that!
They didn’t have any specific suggestions for books about colour and narrivite,  but again, film came up! Colours in film are discussed a lot, and vary a lot in genre, so i’ll have to do some looking into that.
In particular wes anderson might be good to look at
Hero by Jet Li - haven’t looked at this yet
How to take colour that we may associate with a particular feeling and instead make it do something else. (eg. how to make blue happy)
Colour in context with shape and composition
I was very excited after PCZF and got hyperfixated on a little drawing. You and I were chatting about folds in clothes at the fair, so this image was to play with that a bit.
Tumblr media
Yes this is an image of my favorite block lady. I love her. [Illustration of GeminiTay, along with her season 10 skin]
I decided to use the colour pick tool from my reference for accurate colours, which I don’t normally do. I do have a habit of going too light with my values, and a bit swampy and desaturated with my colours. When I started with her trousers, I thought it was wayyyy too dark, but I decided to stick with it till the end anyway. Even though it clearly worked in the reference image, I was still surprised it worked on mine. This has proved to me that it’s okay to push and use some darker colours - which is a bit scary but I’m going to give it a go.
Tumblr media
'messing around with colors with imp and skizz' by @applestruda
I also saw this incredible image by @applestruda using wonderful colours! This led me to play around with some high-saturation images. I wanted to draw one of GeminiTay’s builds with the spooky vibes she’s been trying to capture. I downloaded applestruda’s image, colour shifted the hue to one that fits the energy I wanted to capture, and used it to create a high saturation colour pallet. This is a great starting point since I’ve never worked with this kind of colour palette before - it gives me a starting point rather than drowning in indecision and cluelessness XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s a timelapse of the study!
Once I’d finished, I hue-shifted them for some alt colours. I find this a helpful process for figuring out colour stuff that I would never consider normally. I think I like these more, actually. The one with the reddish wood and green accents feels like it has the vibes of the original image, but is exaggerated a bit. I think it pops. And the pink is cool. I think I could have pushed the values further again, but I'm pretty happy with the final images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So those are my colour thoughts over for now - I’m hoping to keep playing but use of colour is for sure a lifelong skill.
The past few weeks have been so awesome. I’ve just been so so moulded by conversations with my artistic community and it’s been so lovely!!! I’m really enjoying running around the country and visiting all my pals. It was so nice to see you at PCZF and I’m looking forward to more of it!!! :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ps. Here are some sketches I did at the fair
Can’t wait to see more lionheart lil guys :0
Archie <3 :)))))))))

im gonna do a rambly thing because this is a rambly thing thats been in my brain and its actually sort of coherent and im incapable of shutting up so i want to share it. it also happens to be ace attorney because. ace attorney is running my life rn. but see more for said rambly thing (which will make the above make more sense, probably)
as much as i love the idea of the scene where apollo and klavier first meet, apollo looking at klavier and being Very Queer and klavier being like "ive never been looked at this way by a man before" and also being Very Queer, i dont think thats exactly what it is.
as ive mentioned a tiny little bit in a previous post, kristoph and klavier are nearly identical, and its kind of eerie how similar they actually are. theyre both easy to anger (though kristoph is a little more subtle until his breakdown) and tend to show this by hitting solid objects (wall for klavier, witness stand for kristoph); they have the same hair (which klavier seems to hav copied from kristoph); they both have sprites/animations of moving their hair out of their eyes, though klaviers is more sweet and suave while kristophs is more annoyed and disgruntled; kristoph has a sprite/animation where he kind of flicks his wrist and shakes his head, and klavier snaps his fingers (in the same general area); they both wear purple; they both wear glasses (klaviers sunglasses) with the same shape. the point is that they mirror each other
but, they are also fundamentally DIFFERENT. klaviers style is obviously rock n roll while kristophs is more traditional gentlemanly, and klaviers purple is much darker in comparison to kristophs. when klavier laughs, his head is tilted downward, but when kristoph laughs (in the flashback of what happened after the trial) his head is tilted up. kristoph tends to hold himself while klavier is much more loose. while they both tend to talk down to people, kristoph is more belittling and purposeful while klavier doesnt exactly seem to realize the wwords that are coming out of his mouth and just think hes being cool, yknow, like his brother. but, point is, theres a clear difference between them
you may be saying, "ok man can you just get to your point this is really stupid and youre dragging it on and its really hard to read paragraphs when you type so poorly" and to that i say yeah! i know! just hold on!
when apollo first sees klavier, he is HORRIFIED. a man so similar to his old mentor, the man that was supposed to teach him everything there was to being a defense attorney, the man that he helped send to jail on account of MURDER, appearing out in the open, so free and smiling. apollo is in terror and klavier somehow equates this to "i must look SO fine that this guy is giving me the same look women give me 😏" (which, i dont know what that says about the women he sees but) and completely misinterprets apollo looking him up and down in shock (apollo also literally says "mr. gavin?")
the reason apollo just seems to shit on klaviers person so much is because of how goddamn similar he is to kristoph, and he cant shake the feeling. and i think he recognizes that klavier and kristoph are NOT the same person, that klavier is not the same as kristoph, but he cant change that everywhere he sees klavier, he just sees kristoph in his place. and apollo cant find it in himself to be able to put a little trust in klavier being he just gives him this Icky Feeling.
i dont think apollo WANTS to hate klavier for being klavier either!! in turnabout serenade (i think?), when apollo and trucy go to talk to klavier on the stage, klavier greets them and apollo gives him an awkward "hiya". hes trying to be nice and polite and bypass his flight or fight responses but it comes out strained and uncomfortable. its much easier to say you dont like someone because theyre arrogant and whatever as an excuse than to say that oh my god, they look/act like someone who has made lasting damage/impact on your life. some jealously aspects could come from apollo thinking that klavier has it so easy despite also being horrendously betrayed by someone close to you because klavier just seemed to bounce back just like that.
i dont exactly know where to put this point, but after the first case and kristoph gets sent to prison, klavier literally cannot be lead by kristoph anymore. his brother isnt watching his every move, and he cant use klavier anymore (whether klavier was aware or not). theres just klavier, his own person
but, ok, whatever whatever, whats with the pictures. this one i can summarize easily, actually. in thinking [all of the above], i also thought of what would break the mirage apollo has floating around klavier at all times, and i think that would be something along the lines of klavier doing something that apollo physically cannot imagine kristoph doing as well. in this case, its kneeling down in the mud trying to find his key ring and then getting mud in his hair and being so oblivious to it. kristoph just isnt the type. and i think something like that would give apollo a moment of thought and realization. and then some like rivals to lovers stuff happens idk this post is over

[CHAPTER 38]
The mystery man asks if you want to move on, and you express your firm determination to protect the world. At that moment, a door opens in front of you.
On the skywalk six days ago. Victor shot at your ear, but the bullet did not hit you. When you are confused, the gunshot sounds again, accompanied by a slight stabbing pain, and you lose consciousness.
The atmosphere on the skywalk became tense when you suddenly disappeared. At that moment, Lucien showed up at the scene with a gun and accused Victor of being responsible for your disappearance, but Victor was able to shrug off the suspicion with a few words. He ordered the people at the scene to hand over the CORE carrier and claimed that he had the latest clues about BS's illicit contraband. Amid the chaos, Helios' voice is heard as he sits on top of the bridge pillar and sneers at everyone. Within the chaos of the situation, Victor turned the tables on Poseidon.
You wake up in the BS hall, and Zehn tells you that Victor planned all this, allowing him to move you safely here and give you the black box that symbolizes the Black Cabin key.
You use the Black Box and your power to enter the Black Cabin without any problems, the mysterious man does not appear, so you try to use the power of CORE. Many black vortexes with different pictures appear around you, one of which has a massive iron door with the "infinity" symbol engraved on it. You are suddenly sucked into this vortex in a pure white room. You meet Gavin here, and Gavin's analysis of the place reminds you of the past. You decide to go to the iron door to find out.
You use the power of CORE repeatedly, but you cannot reach the space where the door is located. You see a huge white building standing in the center of the city. Gavin persuaded you to go back to the city to confirm the situation. While he needs to go to the door to do some research. Cheering each other on, the two of you part. You return to the rooftop of a high building in Loveland City and are shocked to find a comet hanging in the sky and a countdown timer. At that moment, several strangers suddenly appear on the rooftop and seem to be trying to influence the overlapping area.
Under their influence, the two "Loveland City" alternately flicker in and out of existence, and eventually, the overlap zone takes over. During the conversation between him and those people, you realize that they are from the Time Administration Bureau, and they can always fix the timeline. Still, they can do nothing about the overlapping zone, saying that this is the rule of the world. Victor said he would find a way to change the situation.
After the Time Administration people left, Victor looked at you from the corner and asked what you thought about it. You expressed your concern for Victor, but he reassured you with a sure attitude. You then firmly expressed your determination to change the world's rules, and he told you he would be by your side. And then, from his manner, you learned that only could see that dreadful countdown. Victor says he will clear some obstacles for you and meet you at the finish line. You were filled with courage in his watchful gaze and ran forward again.
Through analysis, you believe that the abrupt white building is likely to be a lighthouse. So you run home and take out the glowing white piece of paper that 502 gave you. Helios tells you to jump out of the window, which you do after confirming his identity. In mid-air, you are rescued by Helios, who tells you that the person who knocked on the door is from NW, that the blood disease vaccine has been developed, and that the chip signal in your body has been blocked for you. After synchronizing the information, you decide to find the slab together and use it to enter the white building.
Helios hacked the Lighthouse and helped you avoid the NW guard near the white building, but you couldn't find the slab. Helios investigated the Hunter game data and found that lighthouses come in different sizes, and the distance of the slab is affected by this. You have determined that there is only one Lighthouse left in Loveland, which was not opened in the last Hunter game, and its slab is on the small reef.
Helios figured out how to get you to the small reef, quickly found the slab, and made it to the Lighthouse. But the structure is very different from the previous one, and the residual intelligence is not present. At this point, you hear the voices of Joker and the teenager coming down the switchback, and Helios decides to stall them to give you enough time to explore. With his encouragement and reassurance, you turn around and head deeper into the Lighthouse.
You walked for a long time but found nothing. So you took out the white paper to activate the power of CORE, and the next second, the surroundings lit up, and you froze in place. At that moment, a man came out from the shadows, and it was Lucien. He told you that he had entered the place through the space-folding Evol. Through Lucien's instructions, you call on the residual intelligence again, and this time it succeeds, but he is not a lighthouse residual intelligence. Instead, he is a "wandering lighthouse " – called 'π' drifting in the universe.
π calls himself a lighthouse keeper and has connected all the lighthouses. You are saddened to see how many lighthouses have "gone out." The countdown in the sky is indeed a reminder from the Lighthouse. Next, π gets straight to the point and tells you that they speculate that the model of the world is very much like a cone and that the world is progressing from its beginning to its destruction. Lucien guesses that the Lighthouse may have figured out a way to solve this problem, and as he says, it is possible to break the world's rules through the power of QUEEN, Evol energy, and the dark matter of the universe. But it's just a guess. After receiving this information, you think that the time left is insufficient to figure this out, so you request Lucien, whose idea also coincides with yours.
You plan to use the Evolver that previously trapped you in a time loop to help you extend your current time and, in that time, continue learning about how to break the rules of the world, as π said. You asked Lucien to help you find the Evolver, but you didn't expect it to be a little girl. After understanding the rules of the time loop, you took a deep breath and started your time loop.
[CHAPTER 39]
You're in a 48-hour loop. The countdown is on, time is running out, and based on the provided information, it's clear that you have a lot of things to confirm-
[Split route-Point of Time]
The time of the "destruction" as π said, is crucial. To seek Victor's help, you took the Black Box back to the hall of BLACK SWAN and saw that Victor and BS God were here, and the Black Cabin gate appeared under the dome.
You proposed to make a deal with BS, provided BS with information about the countdown and doomsday, and opened the door of Black Cabin for BS, and BS seems to be planning something under the leadership of Victor. Victor promised to lend you the power of BS. You asked him what he thought of the information you brought. He seemed to want to communicate with you alone, so he took you away from BS. Some familiar scenes happened on the street, and when you sighed, you found that Victor also felt it. You walk into a church along the road, and he said that the moment the countdown ends could be lengthened, allowing you to look for greater possibilities. A long time ago, Victor noticed some memories he didn't have in his mind and a slight discrepancy with the world. He gently rubbed your hair.
Tumblr media
"Everything that worries you now, I'll let it all end with that finish line."
You tell Victor about the time loop and that he will not have the memories of the next loop. You ask him if the present promise will still be valid when you meet again.
Tumblr media
"If you find me before that moment comes, I will keep my promise."
You promised that you would always work hard for the answer he wanted to know. Then you let go of his coat.
See you later, Victor.
[Split route-Power of CORE]
In order to maximize the power of CORE, you come to NW to make a deal with Xiao Yue, who brings you to the lab area, where you see Gavin, who has escaped from the other dimension and is in the middle of some experiment, entangled in a hurricane. You asked to communicate with Gavin before the experiment, but Gavin seems to have known your determination and told you how he feels.
Tumblr media
"But I've been secretly thinking about you, so it doesn't feel too painful."
The rest of the CORE test is incredibly painful. During the break, Gavin took you out of the medical bay and told you that NW had been looking for the mysterious "door," Now they were trying to bring the door from another dimension into Loveland City. Xiao Yue has already figured out that you are in the loop and wants you to finish the CORE experiment but is stopped by Gavin.
But you still managed to convince Gavin. The experiment continues through an unknown number of loops, one after another, to get many conclusions about the CORE. And the door was dragged out by Gavin's efforts. NW was one step faster to get you away from the scene, but a hurricane hit the vehicle that took you away, and Gavin stepped on it to stop NW's trickery.
Tumblr media
"I never just do what I want to do."
Gavin rescues you to safety and tells you a vague instinct haunts him in his mind. You say that he will not remember these things when you enter the loop again. Finally, you make a promise to him that you will meet him in the future when you have the truth.
See you later, Gavin.
[Split route-Evol Energy]
According to π’s description, you need to find a considerable amount of Evol energy. You recalled that the hunter game also collected Evol energy, so you returned to the Lighthouse and found Joker. Unexpectedly, Helios is also here. They seem to have reached some kind of temporary agreement. Helios tells you that he received a signal from the previous generation of KEY in the Lighthouse and found the centralized network of the Lighthouse.
You call π out, acknowledging that the Evol energy that turns on the lighthouses is part of their plan to break the trajectory of the retrograde model and that the hunter game has indeed accomplished part of that plan. These enormous amounts of energy are stored in each Lighthouse. To use these energies, you need a lighthouse as a "guide" to integrate them.
Helios says that he can use the network of lighthouses to channel the energy and become the guide. As the program progresses, he offers to talk to you, and you return to the city of Loveland, walk through the streets at the doomsday, and see the commercial he shot before the last doomsday. He tells you that he has already sensed some vague truth in his mind.
Tumblr media
"I feel that when this is over, I will have the answer that you couldn't say.”
The loop ends this time, and you tell him that he will not remember any of this after the loop is over. He says he will always be your accomplice, no matter how many times he starts over.
Tumblr media
"I was already another part of your strength."
And you promise that you will tell him all those words you once could not say in the future.
[Split route-Dark Matter]
You are unsure of the information on "dark matter," so you find Lucien and ask him about it. He takes you to a laboratory 2,000 meters underground and gives you a detailed description of dark matter. Lucien provides the researchers with a model of the world to test their conjectures and look for possibilities. He also needs more data from you to speed up the experiment and eliminate wrong answers.
In each loop, you tell him the answer from the previous loop. The result is getting closer and closer to the final solution. Finally, in the 80th loop, everyone cheered for the experiment's success and found the answer near the hole in Boötes.
With a few hours left, Lucien invites you to a villa to meet. When you arrive, you find Lucien holding a sniper rifle. A gunshot broke the calm, and you saw many high-ranking cadres of GR and Leto. It turned out that they had long been secretly colluding. Glass shards and bullets are suspended in mid-air by Lucien's Evol, who reminds you that danger is everywhere.
Tumblr media
"If you want to win, you must take all the initiative into your own hands."
Before the end of this loop, he tells you that he has many unanswered questions and déjà vu memories, which he tries to uncover.
Tumblr media
"You are my answer to all these mysteries."
The truth is delivered to him, which is what you want to do. In the warmth of the interlocking hands, you smile at him.
See you later, Lucien.
[Split route-Clues in space-time overlap area]
The Loveland City has not been entirely covered by black space and is full of many possibilities. You recall the glowing intersection line that you and Shaw stepped on together, so you finally try to find it and enter the other dimension.
You met Shaw here, relayed the situation of Loveland City and the overlap area, and you found out that the time flow here is different from reality. He takes out the Dragonfly Eye, and you see many images in its records. Shaw says he has no recollection of these things and finds that the world line has been wound up into one.
Shaw takes you back to Loveland City, where you are approaching the end of the loop. You tell him that you are in a loop and that he will not remember what is happening in the next loop. He doesn't care, telling you that the possibility of your success in saving the world is unquestionable.
Tumblr media
"The possibility of this world, I will reserve it for you."
You are encouraged by him and decide to move on.
See you later, Shaw.
[Chapter 40]
After going through the loop several times and having information on every aspect, you return to the park and let the little girl end the loop. You tell everyone separately about the data from the loop. At the end of the countdown, you stood on the throne and welcomed the end.
The countdown goes to zero, and all the power is gathered inside you. This time you finally hear the mysterious voice again, and you show him your determination. The door finally opens slowly.
The mysterious little boy who has appeared from time to time for 17 years has appeared in front of you and welcomes you.
There is a [Huge Cog Wheel] in the center of ethereal space. The mysterious little boy tells you this is the [Heart of the World], where all the rules are born. And every trajectory of the world will eventually come to an end. Although you are aware of such rules, you insist on forcing everyone to live at a normal pace. So you decided to break the rules and stab the heart of the world with [Golden Dagger], and the cogwheel stopped working.
The boy lamented that you would return and see changes in the world, such as the [Strange phenomenon], before it ended, which was a time to catch your breath. Your consciousness drifts up, and you wake up to find yourself on a bus.
You find in a trance that the people in this bus are shadows, and the world outside the window is unreal. At that moment, there is a soft laugh behind you, and you turn around to find that it is Shaw. You pinched his cheek to make sure it was him. You asked a series of questions, and his answers were vague. You then synchronized the [Time loop] to Shaw, but his response was flat, even a little complicated and strange, and when you saw the peculiar colored light outside the window, you asked whether the [Comet] had been stopped.
He told you not to be anxious and grabbed your hand for a high five, a gesture that reminded you of the goodbye you said to him on the rooftop 17 years ago. When your heart was touched, Shaw said he had to figure out some things and got up to leave.
Tumblr media
"Hey, I'm going to be late this time."
Not waiting for your reaction, he stepped off the bus, a bright light came, and when it faded, you found that you were the only person left on the bus, and a different phenomenon appeared in the sky than just now.
[Split route-Meteor Shower]
The sky is full of [meteor shower], and the bus stops.
As if by some guidance, you step off the bus, and the intense light flashes once. You find yourself standing on a rooftop. The time on the distant clock tower makes you realize that you are finally in the future after [19:17]. You know that you have succeeded and immediately run towards [BS's headquarters] because you only want to see Victor. On the way, you hear a sharp brake behind you. Victor gets out of the car and runs towards you, holding you tightly in his arms.
Tumblr media
"Where's the curry you promised you'd bring for me?"
You froze, realizing that he had remembered everything and the promise he had made to him 17 years ago on a fateful day. With tears in your eyes, you tell Victor to wait where he is, and you will get him some coffee. But you didn't get it in the end, and Victor said he didn't need coffee. It was enough to bring back the old him.
When you got home, he sat on the couch with a tear-stained you in his arms, you talked a lot, and you had a lot of questions.
He said that what is happening now is probably another part of [World Overlap] and that what belongs to the past will eventually return.
At this point, you find the time quietly stopped at 20:21. Victor pauses the time to drop a deep kiss on your fingertips.
Tumblr media
"Would you think that I am selfish if I paused time forever at this moment?"
Victor gently kissed you and whispered to you that he was back.
[Split route-Aurora Borealis]
You notice the bright [Aurora Borealis] outside the bus window, and the bus stops.
As if by some guidance, you stepped off the bus, and the bright light flashed once. You found yourself standing under a camphor tree. In a trance, you pull out your phone, see the time, and realize that you are finally in the future after [19:17]. You know that you have succeeded, so you run towards the laboratory in the mine because you want to see Lucien right now. In a frenzied run, you see Lucien at the end of the crowd. He was sweating and seemed to have run a very long way through the crowd before crossing the sea of people and hugging you tightly into his arms. After holding each other for a long time, he took you to a plain clearing and said he had to retrieve something. Then he dug with his bare hands until he pulled out a light green gem called "hope."
Tumblr media
"My special assistant, would you like to accept this belated gift?"
You froze, realizing that he remembered everything, remembering the doomsday 17 years ago, and tears welled up in your eyes.
You kept confirming to him it wasn't a hallucination. He said he wouldn't let it be a hallucination, so now it was time to take him home.
After returning home, Lucien said the reason he remembered the past is probably another meaning of [World Overlap]. Something that belongs to the past will also eventually return. You look at the gem and ask, does that include it?
Lucien gently answered, picking up the gem and placing it between your eyes.
Tumblr media
"It is you who made our story usher in tomorrow."
As your hearts fluttered, you agreed to revisit the wheat fields to see the spring. Amidst the soft kiss and embrace, he whispers that he is back.
[Split route-Polar Day]
You notice that outside the bus window is no longer a perpetual night, a vast amount of [daylight] pouring into the sky, and the bus stops.
As if by some guidance, you stepped off the bus and the bright light flashed again. You find yourself on the roof of Loveland High School, and the time on the clock in the center of the main building makes you realize that you are finally in the future after [19:17].
Now, you know you've succeeded and run in the direction of the [NW Experimental Facility]. Because right now, you just want to see Gavin.
At that moment, there is a gust of wind. Gavin just appeared in the window and watching you. His body is a bit wretched. You did not hesitate to jump into the wind's embrace.
During the hug, he said a lot of puzzling words, such as he is Gavin, or he was following the wind to find you, but when he said the words, you froze.
Tumblr media
"Because this is where I send you away."
You realize that he has remembered everything, followed by a flood of tears, remembering the words spoken 17 years ago on the doomsday. After repeatedly confirming to him that it was not a dream, he stepped back a dozen meters and opened his arms to you, indicating that he had come to guide you. And so, step by step, you fall into his arms.
He carried you to a lake, and you curiously asked him why the memory would come back, and he said that perhaps it was another meaning of [world overlap] that things belonging to the past would eventually return.
He said the scenery in front of him now is more beautiful than he imagined because the imaginary you is ultimately only an imagination.
Tumblr media
"The reality you can hold in your hands is always better than what I can imagine."
In his eyes, you are amazing, but you know it's because he is always there for you. He closed his eyes and kissed you, whispering that he was back.
[Split route-The Tyndall Effect]
You notice a glorious light in the sky, and the bus comes to a stop.
As if by some kind of guidance, you stepped off the bus and the bright light flashed again. You find that you seem to have come to a backstage, and the time on the wall clock also makes you realize that you have finally arrived at the time after [19:17] in the future.
You know that you have succeeded at this moment, so you run towards the [Lighthouse] because you only want to see Kiro. At this time, Kiro's anxious voice came from the speaker above, and he asked you to stand where you are.
The sound of running comes from backstage, and in the next moment, Kiro holds you tightly in his arms.
Tumblr media
"Since a long, long time ago, I can always hear a spell."
You listened to his words until he said, 'Now does it count that he came back to you before the countdown ended?'
You froze, realizing that he had remembered everything, remembering the promise and goodbye on the doomsday 17 years ago, and tears welled up in your eyes.
And so, he sat on the edge of the stage with you in his arms. His song spanned across time and he gave you the most precious reunion in the world.
When you get home, you still can't believe all this, he said this might be another meaning of [World Overlap], and the past will come back eventually.
So amidst the glow of the sky, he gently kissed you. You say every little bit of the words you want to say to him, one sentence at a time.
Tumblr media
"Because without your insistence, I'd probably still be lost."
So you made a pact, and he said he would never leave you again. With a soft kiss, he says to you that he's back.
The frozen cog wheel seems to crumble in the darkness, and the cracks begin to spread a little.

Note
For the Redacted Audio match-ups
I feel like I've just shown my entire soul here. Wow.
I get fixated on a different song like every-other-day so I'm not sure... Maybe the line "Please give me the strength to be able to believe until the end, even if it is a lie" from "Itoshi kimi yo" (To the one I love) by Moriyama Naotaro. This song NEVER FAILS to make me cry.
97% Enneagram Type 6 (maybe 6w5)
I used to love watching like hour-long YT documentaries but my attention-span has severely gone downhill since the panorama... but I enjoy Bernadette Banner's analyses of historical clothing, Implictly Pretentious' deepdives into the psyches of comicbook movie characters, and NativLang's video essays on various languages and their histories and characteristics.
I never had an imaginary friend as a child (excluding the man-thing that runs alongside the car). Although for a time (in my teens) I had a vampire that would sit by my bedside and protect me as I slept (NO, I was NOT a twilight fan! I was a Vampire Knight fan)
My go-to way to fall asleep is listening to redacted audio. Basically any playlist, any audio (excluding inversion, yandere!ivan)
I don't/hate my name. I just don't associate with it beyond it being what people call me irl. I would change it to either Teigan or Ruri (the former was a cute name I found (and have claimed it in my family should I ever adopt a child) and the latter being the Japanese for the stone lapis lazuli, which I like very much)
...If I was forced to pick only one redacted audio... it'd have to be... Comforted and Cared for By Your Incubus Boyfriend it hits ALL the feels and literally sounds like one big hug that goes straight to my heart.
(Honourable mentions have to go to basically the entire playlists of Vincent, Gavin and Avior; they are my comfort bois despite the various angst in their stories)
I understand but don't personally get the appeal for Lasko. Like we'd get on as friends, but /I need to be the submissive, nerdy, soft one, y'know.
Aside from a number of redacted audios, I tend to not read/watch things multiple times apart from maybe Avengers or Iron Man 1. Those were my comfort movies for a while.
Platonically, I'm attracted to Damien. I am also a perfectionist with a strong sense of justice so I feel we'd get pretty well. Also he's a sarcastic mf-er too and no one can tell me otherwise.
Hmm my go-to ramble topic when tired... I ramble about various things. I wish I was someone who had a singular topic. I'll talk your ear off about Language, Japan, various anime/manga, The Mortal Instruments, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, F1, nail art. I'm that scene from The Avengers [Maria Hill : When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics? Tony Stark : Last night.] I'm a walking encyclopedia of useless (to other people) information and I enjoy info-dumping on people, but I try to not do that so much, so when I do I tend to go overboard...
Go-to gas station snack and drink combo: I don't frequent pretrol stations, they're expensive... I'd probably choose crunchy m&ms and a non-carbonated drink that isn't too sweet. (Unrelated but related, my st*rb*cks drink of choice is a match frappuccino, extra matcha, no syrup)
Favourite Redacted playlist: Vincent (I can talk along with about half of his audios at this point)
Favourite music playlist: I don't really make playlists, I either just listen to everything on one big shuffle or I listen to an album in order on-repeat.
My media choices change depending on my mood, my most "guilty" pleasure media at the moment would have to be NA fiction. If there's no spice or morally grey MMC, I don' want it.
Whatever else you think tells me about who you are.
MBTI type: INFP-T.
I'm a chronic procrastinator.
I have RBF but crack into a smile at the tiniest joke, I have no poker face (but won the only game of poker I ever played).
I'm the older sibling, the 2nd oldest grandchild and often am the "Parent-friend", but I actually act like the youngest and teamed with my (lack of) height, people often mistake me for much younger than I am.
Thanks for reading my ramblings... 😶
Tumblr media
Oh, this was easy-peasy. You know what a Type Six parent friend could really use? A stable, secure, Alpha- the wolf equivalent of a dad friend.
I don’t know who started it, but there’s this delightful headcanon of a bookish, reader Angel that I can imagine for you. It’d be so cute, him stealing your book and holding it out of your reach, asking who the fuck is “Grim” and what is his deal with the chocolate. He’s the type of partner who would make fun of your possible book hoarding but still buys you everything you touch at the local Barnes & Noble with that good, good Shaw Security money.
Also, he’d- lovingly, adoringly but so meanly- give you hell about your imaginary vampire friend watching you sleep. You’ll so regret telling David that every time he asks if you can make do with a werewolf or if you’d rather him call one of the Solaires.
Song:
Hey, boy, where do you get it from?/ Hey, boy, where did you go?/ I learned my passion/ In the good old-fashioned/ School of loverboys
Everything about David is very old-fashioned, old-school romantic to me, down to his pet name, his proposal, and his music tastes. He likes the classics, music Gabe would play on their drives up to the campsite, and he’d like playing it while he cooks for you.
Runner-Ups:
I like pairing parent friends with parent friends; it just makes sense. James gives me bossy, dad friend vibes, the kind of partner who knows you procrastinates and plans accordingly. Sam, I like because he is the protective vampire boyfriend who’d watch over you while you sleep, and that’s adorable.
Notes: I hope that reference isn’t too niche you’ll have to forgive me I’ve watched no joke ten hours of video essay about Lightlark by Alex Aster in the past three days
Read this post and send me an ask if you’d like a match-up of your own! 💌

Nsft question: what titles do you think the boys would like to be called during smexy time if any? Would any of them prefer a nickname or their own name?
Anon, you have no idea how excited I was to wake up and see this in my inbox. I had a lot of fun thinking about this, so thank you!
(Also, some of these are probably going to be longer than others. I don’t really have a format in mind, I’m just kinda jumping in and rambling. Also, this is just the main three groups—the vampires and wolves and the D.A.M.N crew, just because those are the ones I’m most familiar with. If anyone has ideas for the others, I would love to hear them!)
Under the cut for obvious reasons lol. 18+, minors DNI, y’know. The usual.
Out of all the boys, I think the ones who would prefer their own name would be Vincent, Huxley, David, and Gavin, but all for slightly different reasons.
Vincent takes a lot of joy in knowing that he’s the one making Lovely feel good, getting them worked up and lost in pleasure because of him. He isn’t cocky about it, though; he just loves being the one who gets to make them come undone. He loves hearing Lovely use his name because, yes! That’s him! He’s the one teasing these reactions out of them. Out of everyone in the world, he’s the lucky one who gets to do it. He just loves Lovely so much.
Huxley is very chill, just all the time. I feel like he’s also extremely accommodating; he doesn’t mind indulging in a fantasy or a kink, as long as it makes his partner (Damien, or someone else) feel good. But he doesn’t have any titles he actually prefers. What really gets him is when the other person uses his name. In general, a lot of people tend to call him Hux, which he always likes. But in the bedroom, when he’s devoted entirely to pleasing his partner, nothing gets to him quite like hearing his name—Huxley, not just Hux—spill from their lips. It just hits different.
David, I don’t really see being into the nicknames or the titles. Well, we all know Angel’s going to call him Davey while in bed, but that’s only when they’re being a brat and they want to tease him. (He never lets that go unpunished, but that is neither here nor there.) But he doesn’t really have any that he prefers. We know he’s kinky—there was that role play in the woods in that one BA we all know and love—but I just don’t see him actually being into any titles. He just likes it when Angel finally calls him by his full first name; they call him Davey so often that hearing David always manages to get a rise out of him.
Gavin is a bit of a special case. Being an incubus, and having been around for a while, he’s more than a little bit experienced. Gavin is another one who tends to be rather accommodating. He kinda has to be, y’know? This means he doesn’t mind the titles the other person uses, if he’s doing a scene or anything with them—that is, at least until he meets Freelancer. His Deviant changes all of that. Freelancer is the first person to actually see Gavin as anything other than a sex object. And while he’s still more than willing to indulge them, he really, really likes it when they call him Gavin. Because that’s them seeing him for who he is rather than just what he is.
The boys who I think like being called a nickname are Sam and Damien.
Sam usually just goes by Sam in his daily life, outside of the bedroom. I don’t really see him having any nicknames. Until he meets Darlin’, that is. They like to call him Sammy when they’re messing with him. He tries to act annoyed, but he actually thinks it’s sweet. They absolutely used it during their first time together too, and Sam fucking loved it. He likes the playfulness of it, but he especially likes hearing Darlin’—his big, strong, fiercely independent mate—whimper it in his ear as he manages to get them worked up and stumbling over the edge. It’s usually paired with claw marks down his back. Sam likes that a lot too, naturally.
Damien doesn’t like titles. They just… don’t sit right with him. He’s experimented a couple of times before, and has tried out a handful of different ones just to see, but all of them just make him scrunch up his nose and say, “Actually please don’t call me that ever again.” He’s rather impartial to his own name. That’s just his name. For a long time he thought he didn’t have a preference when it came to sex, but he found out he likes it when his partner calls him by a nickname. Dami. Or Dames, of course. Something about it just lights a fire in him. A different one than usual. He likes the idea of having his partner just so lost and feeling good that they can’t get his whole name out and have to settle for a shortened version. It makes him more than a little smug.
And for the rest, I think they prefer actual titles or pet names: Milo, Asher, and Lasko.
Milo is a dom. If his HBS audio from this summer and his BA have told me anything, it’s that he is absolutely a dom. Sweetheart likes it rough, and he is eager to give them exactly what they want. This includes titles. Milo doesn’t mind being called by his first name. But he also really likes being called Sir. It’s a big turn-on for him. He just likes the way it sounds, especially when it’s coming from a needy Sweetheart on their knees for him. Sweetheart can be such a troublemaker outside of the bedroom, giving him near-heart attacks on a daily basis and messing with him at every opportunity. He loves seeing them so eager to please, and desperate for anything he’s willing to give them. Also, the title kind of acts like a sort of safeword, almost. Or the lack of it, to be specific. Sweetheart likes to call him Sir while they’re in the middle of a scene. If they drop it and suddenly switch to calling him Milo instead, especially if they’re in the middle of something, it’s a sign to press pause and check in.
Asher likes to be called a couple things in bed. He likes Pup, or Puppy. He likes being called a good boy. None of these are probably a surprise. Babe uses them all differently, though, and that is important. If they’re playing with him and trying to get him riled up, they like to lean in close and call him Pup right in his ear, for no one else to hear but him. Especially if there’s someone else around and they want to tease him. Puppy is for when they’re being sweet and soft. Babe likes to use this one when they’re just trying to bring him pleasure and make him feel good, and when they want to make it intimate. They like to use this one when they’re edging him, too, and trying to encourage him to hold off for just a little bit longer. On the other hand, good boy is for the opposite—whenever he’s pleasing them. Babe likes to use that when he goes down on them, or whenever they have him under them to ride him, or whenever they’re trying to get him to cum. It works every single time.
And, last but most certainly not least, Lasko! Lasko likes a couple others, too. Slightly similar to Ash, Pet will have him on his knees if his partner is teasing him or being playful. Baby is a good one whenever they’re pleasing him. They’ll whisper it as they trail kisses down his body before taking him into their mouth or fingering him to get him ready for them. One of his personal favorites is Little One, just because it’s so sweet. It makes him feel safe whenever his partner has him on the edge and desperate and begging. He also likes that one when he’s overstimulated, or trying to recover from an orgasm. They’ll run a hand through his hair and kiss his forehead and whisper it in his ear while he’s coming down and soaking in the afterglow.

From Midnight, With Love: A Writeblr Love Letter, that includes rambly divulging thoughts, a short story, and many thanks <3
Prelude
Good evening / timezone writeblr!! I know that this may come fifteen days too early, considering that December 31st, on the cusp of the new year, would be a more reasonable time to thank everyone on writeblr for this absolutely marvelous year of 2022, but I've decided "fuck it!" and banked on doing it now. So! Without further stalling... thus will begin this love letter, underneath a read more, for the sake of all those who don't delight in scrolling through walls of text.
But before that... the different sections of this love letter, will be opened by quotes that I find, from fellow writeblr mutual @lockejhaven.
Contents:
The Passion of Writing Stories (my past as a writer / my blog's origin story)
A Welcome to the Writeblr Corner (a fictional story that delves into my first steps in being a writeblr!)
From Midnight, with Love (some final thoughts, and many, many thanks.)
I. The Passion Of Writing Stories (aka: my blog's origin story)
"Worlds are burning, my child. Gods alone cannot suffocate the flames." - @lockejhaven
Ahh, how fitting. As almost everyone knows by now, the pandemic known as the Coronavirus has gone and affected the jobs and livelihoods of anyone, and everyone for two going on three years now, and my journey as a writeblr begins as a mere speck in the initial startling throes of the COVID rampage.
As many people know though, I did not have the luxury of taking a walk down the expansive, and seemingly endless library of writeblrs all contained within the care of a single blessed hellsite called Tumblr, when I was just about in my Grade 6 to 7 year. Despite that however, I wrote a lot of things, both good and not-so good throughout those years.
Of the many writing highlights I can think on, I will say with absolute certainty that it was my group-written Minecraft roleplay-style story, titled, "Beacon City: Herobrine's Apprentice" which had left me thinking recently: - "Why couldn't I have just called it 'Beacon City' and left it at that?" - "With the whole 'Herobrine's Apprentice' thing tacked onto the end of the title, like a kid who desperately clings to his mother to let him go to a party of great proportions, why did it seem like I was planning sequels when the main story was already being written?"
But moving from that, I cherished every moment of writing that Minecraft roleplay story with my friends, during blocks in class where we'd half-finish our work and sneakily call it a "free period" for us to work on that story.
Well, and I was definitely right to cherish those moments, because as the years passed and I slightly moved up the rungs of my personal ability scale as a writer I naively didn't look back to those previous times, and before I knew it... I had just entered Grade 10, and was four months into the academic grind, when my high school got the news that my amazing friend Gavin, who had been friends with me since middle school in band class and outside band class in my regular classes, had passed away due to complications from cancer.
This hit me, and still hits me hard. He was an amazing writer and helped out a lot on the Beacon City story, and on top of that was a great friend to hang out with. But it didn't take me long to immortalize him in my memory and keep him there in spirit.
Eventually though, I managed to move past that trauma of a loss, from a student's perspective, and get back into writing more things.
--- --- --- ---
In the present day, I have reflected many a time on my middle school writing era, so to say, and the many improvements I've made. Although like many others, I ridiculed how bad my writing style was back then and didn't bother to elaborate or reflect on it, but now I see the point in reflecting positively on your older writing.
I've realized that even if your writing is bad, just appreciate that it's yours and that you are making progress towards being a better writer, no matter how long that may take.
Now setting the scene for a bit here: I was 14, at the time I was in middle school, and I had just started taking writing seriously, to the point where I was writing small things every day. I had just started writing stories at the age of 10, and drawing upon the breadth of knowledge I had gained since then, had decided it was a great idea to improve on my passion that was telling stories.
This is where the first mentions of my main OC, Midnight, were born. He had started out WAY differently than how he is in the present day with all the development he's gone through. Two years after middle school though, in 2021 is when I decided to create a Tumblr account, starting off by making it a sort of askblog for Midnight, and just a smorgasbord for Melodiverse related stuff on top of that.
That cycle continued for a good long while with very infrequent posts and little traction... up until July 5th, of 2022, when I thought my blog was long overdue for a rebranding.
And I was only just about to discover the wonderful endless library of writers that lay behind an ornate door in Tumblr's expansive hub of small self-contained corners of the internet.
II. A Welcome to the Writeblr Corner (a fictional story that delves into my first steps in being a writeblr!)
"In a memory as old as mine, there is a truth worth seeking; a light worth following." - @lockejhaven
(A/N: And now for something completely different, that ISN'T a dive into my past as a writer, and more in my comfort zone hehe)
I found myself standing in the center of a very stimulating landscape. Almost too stimulating, in fact.
This landscape I could see around me was the darkest of blue for a solid ground, the wall was filled with reblogs and textposts, many of those that were from mutuals of mine and people that I follow. And even though this was a virtual world, that didn't stop very intrusive promotional ads from occasionally blocking my view of certain posts, as I had to physically keep my distance from them, instead of scrolling past them.
The landscape was filled with seas of people flocking to the constantly-updating walls to reblog the latest art piece, latest new fanfic and original work, or a very emotion-driven piece of poetry, penned by a user who's identity had ceased to exist, lost within this hellsite's annals of time and punctuated by an anonymous icon that acted as that blog's tombstone, with the epitaph reading whatever that user's last post before death was.
After mulling on that for awhile, and walking over to the wall to like that poetry post from that user who no longer exists, safely archived by reblogs, I liked the post to pay my respects and began walking towards my own personal room, of which was my blog's control panel and also a lounging space.
However, on my way there, I heard the faint chirping of birds and the rustling of trees, behind a cold white wall, repeating down the hallway seemingly endlessly, with noisy fluorescent lighting illuminating the way forward.
I turned around, and walked back out into the stimulating landscape of Tumblr's hub, before the ambiance of the birds and trees had become slightly louder and I faced the source of the sound. A large wooden door with a sun and open book painted on the front.
--- --- --- ---
Nervously, I continued forward, and after opening and shutting the door behind me, leaving me within the enclosure of a meadow, I admired how nice it was to no longer be inundated with notifications every second, and bathed myself in the serenity of nature. The tweeting of birds, and rustling of trees were more sonically noticeable by now.
I strolled through, and from outside yet another door, I perceived a very calming atmosphere, as I perked my ears up to the door, to hear the flipping of book pages, the typing of laptops, the sipping of coffee, and general soft conversation.
I had to psyche myself up for a bit, before I felt confident enough to go in. But my legs must have completely taken control, because before I knew it, I found myself facing the exact door I entered into. Only this time, there was a fluffy wreath on the front, followed by the words scrawled into a neat script: "Writeblr Corner: A comfort lounge for both the veteran wordsmiths and those who are new to the art of pen and page."
I closed my eyes before opening the door with a loud creak and stepping foot onto what seemed like a freshly cleaned carpet.
I opened my eyes soon after, and was greeted by the lovely aroma of coffee, and looked further around me to see endless walls of books, most of them penned by the people in this lounge, who were strangers to me at first.
I strolled around the isles as soft jazz music played over the speakers, until I found a table with a piece of lined paper sitting face up. "Introduce yourself to the patrons!" it read, almost as if it was beckoning me to introduce myself to the sea of wordsmiths who had no idea about me or what I did.
But I wrote down my name, my stories that I had in progress, and other things that people should know about me, before heading to a large corkboard, which held writer introductions from ages past to more recent ones, and I stuck mine under recent, and eagerly awaited to see what would happen.
I heard the pushing in of a chair as someone got up from their table of friends and was heading my way. We briefly made eye contact before they beelined for the corkboard, grabbed a pen and scrawled something down.
Before I could ask for their name, the person walked back to their table and sat back down. Which left me to go discover who out of the many patrons here, after all, this lounge was very full with the sound of lively conversation, had left something underneath my introduction.
It turns out, that multiple people had left something under my introduction. I walked up to the board, zoomed into my introduction paper and struggled to read the very ornate handwriting. "Hello Midnight!" read one of the comments, signed by someone named Natsume, which was written in purple ink. "Hi bud!" read another of the comments which was written off to the left side of the paper, but still visible and written in blue-pink ink. This one was signed by someone named Athena.
Many other comments were scrawled all along my introduction paper, and I was happy people were greeting me.
I eventually within a couple days found myself at home and a regular within the Writeblr Corner.
This was certainly the greatest of welcomes I could've expected.
--- --- --- ---
III. From Midnight, With Love (some final thoughts, and many, many thanks.)
"Surrender to yourself, dragonheart, and all will end as it should." - @lockejhaven
Now I'd like to leave y'all with some final thoughts.
Despite the pandemic making everyday life seem like a localized "hell on earth" scenario, the year 2022 was the greatest I could've ever hoped for.
Within this lovely writeblr community on this blessed hellsite, I made so many new friends, managed to accumulate 180 followers throughout that time, rambled a whole lot about many things, some of which were writing related, others not so much, managed to write small pieces but somehow didn't gain progress on most of my main WIPs (besides Stars, Bits, and Bytes), and just... had so much fun talking about writing and laying my eyes upon other's works of absolute word mastery. (ex. @athena-anna-rose's Terraclaw snippets, @careful-pyromancer's snippets, @lockejhaven's poetry, quotes, and snippets, and literally so many more works of wordsmithery that I would list here but it'd be too long <3)
I enjoyed playing so many writeblr-focused tag games, like Find the Word, Heads Up Seven Up, and a lot more. On top of that, I adored answering the many asks that people would send me, and I also enjoyed writing for Storyteller Saturday, Tiny Scene Sunday, and building more of my world with Worldbuilding Wednesday.
Looking forward, and behind the curtain, to the future of my blog, I'm excited to begin writing darker stuff, cute, fluffy romance, maybe some fanfiction, and definitely poetry as we near the end of my blog's first "arc".
--- --- --- ---
And we have come to the end of my love letter to writeblr! Whoever of my writeblr mutuals sees and comments on this, know that I appreciate y'all so much <3/p
THANKS TO:
@lockejhaven - for allowing use of their quotes as openers for each of the parts of this love letter, being such a lovely friend, and running the North Haven discord server. Thank you Locke.
@365runesofwriting - for being a "mother figure" for me in terms of writeblr. <3/p
@jadefyre - for being the one to create my most favorite of all writeblr events: Tiny Scene Sunday. <3/p
@scratched-fountains - Thank you Ame for being the OG, and sticking around long enough to see me improve. I hope you'll be one of the ones to leave a heartfelt review on Midnight and the Gift of the Melody Blade when I'm done with it in June of 2023. <3/p
@careful-pyromancer - for being the one with a "chosen one WIP" that unfolded to be greater than the sum of it's parts. I sincerely hope I'll see more from you with Chronicles of Avalon in the future. <3/p
@blue-kyber - for having the most captivating sci-fi fantasy series in all of Tumblr, in my humble opinion. Seriously. Out There: The 1K is the most amazing story I've seen weaved between intricate characters and emotional scenes. <3/p
@athena-anna-rose - for drawing my into checking out more of her work through Terraclaw and Wildlands content. Hope you're doin' well Athena. <3/p
And thanks to those who are anonymous, or are just too shy to personally interact with my blog. Know that I see you, and I adore your presence.
And finally, signing off: From Midnight, with Love, Thank you all so fuckin' much for a marvelous first five months on writeblr. Here's to many, many more.

@waatched // starter call: Even the dead tell stories.
The soft creak beneath his shoe masks itself among the many stemming from different corners of the building. Old wood and dust were a perfect match, stretching seamlessly down every hallway; peppering walls among torn bits of wallpaper and crumbling plaster. Perhaps at one point, it had been lovely, a welcoming home to many, and now it sits in ruin, occupied only by the homeless and the occasional felon looking to lay low somewhere with ample hiding spots. In this case, it was the latter that brought them there and had them combing musty rooms: one of their -- his, targets had made their way in here, and unlike other jobs, this time Aiden has help tracking the bastard down. However, as it turns out, finding the guy he's after isn't going to be a problem.
A single step and he's pushing a door open, wincing at the sharp creak that pierces the quiet, and as Aiden follows the movement inward, he nearly collides with the battered wood just it collides with...something. Another push yields the same result, and he's not foolish enough to try the same thing a third time, so the next comes with two hundred pounds thrown into it, his shoulder taking the brunt of the hit and finally jarring the door enough to make room for entry. And upon squeezing through the gap, he's soon face-to-face with the cause of the blockade...and his target. On the ground and unmoving, limbs at weird angles, his skin turning a rather unnatural shade of...
"Ah, Jesus..."
Dead, he's dead, long before Aiden ever laid eyes on him, which doesn't help the whole job situation. Dead was the end goal, after he got the information he needed, but Aiden was supposed to be the one to take him down. The immediate thought was, someone else got to the guy first, but the more he looks at the aftermath, the more it seems...off. Everything from the unnatural position of the body (though that, in part, could be attributed to his stunt with the door mere moments before) to the jagged, bizarre wounds all over it to the expression solidified on what was left of the face and the fact that the corpse was left at the scene -- it all seemed sloppy for a fixer's work. Too sloppy...but he'll file that away in the back of his mind for the time being, and keep his guard up until they had the other half of their prize and got the hell out of there.
He'd made a point to block the entry the moment he'd seen the man on the floor, and still he hadn't budged to make any semblance of room, ensuring he obstructed even the slightest view the boy behind him may have had. Death was nothing new to either of them, as he's well aware...but something about that man does not sit right with him. Gavin doesn't need to see it, too.
Tumblr media
"Look around out there -- but don't wander off too far," he says lowly after the tension begins to fade into something more manageable. An order meant as both direction and distraction. "Apparently, he spent a lot of time here, so there has to be something."

The Rain Review Year 4 (2014)
Welcome back to the Rain Review! This time, we’re tackling the comic’s fourth year. It spans Chapter 19: Vincent’s Story all the way through Chapter 23: The Flaherty Siblings.
This one’s the last full year of the comic’s run that I was round for. In Year 5, we’ll get into all new territory. For now, here’s another recap-style post.
Tumblr media
Summary
Vincent’s Story is a chapter that I can summarize fairly quickly. Rain’s therapist is actually Aunt Fara’s ex. Fara’s family, particularly her brother-in-law, was not approving at all. Vince ended up disappearing on Fara because he didn’t want her to be troubled with the backlash. In hindsight, he knows this wasn’t the best play because he’s worried Fara big time. Anyway, Jessica and Rain conspire to get them talking again.
Tumblr media
Next Chapter!
Aiken is rooming with his twin sister Kellen now. They talk about Rain and it turns out that Aiken is... actually trying to get it. Kellen still doesn’t understand or approve of her sister’s life.
Tumblr media
Emily goes to hang out with Rain for a “Quiet Weekend” where they share another cute chat. Ky comes over and Emily gives her a word to put to her gender feels. Also, Emily shares with Ky that she’s pregnant. And pansexual also. Yes, they do make THAT joke, but it was 2014.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gavin’s date is going really well. Like, he hits it the hell off with Ana.
Tumblr media
Also, I usually don’t talk about any of the bonus art or the Rain Delay filler comics in these posts, but I NEED to call attention to the fact that I got Attack On Titan Jumpscared going into the next chapter.
Tumblr media
No, no, it’s fine... it was 2014. We didn’t know. Everyone was talking about i- OH COME ON.
Tumblr media
It truly was a different time, folks. It was almost 10 years ago...
In news that’s positive to me but probably still negative for everyone else there was also a Danganronpa filler art. Not to derail too hard, but most of these cosplay choices are banger. Except, Gavin is clearly Togami because there just wasn’t another guy that wasn’t annoying. If I believed the fandom perception of that character instead of the actual text of the game, I’d say he should be Mondo.
Tumblr media
Anyway, back to the STORY!!!
Brother Arthur tells Chanel and Maria to tone it the hell down before they get caught, but goes out of his way to NOT give them detention for it. This leads directly into the two of them making plans for a Valentine’s Day date in which Chanel treats Maria to dinner.
Tumblr media
Maria decides to talk to Rain about Emily. She explains that she eavesdropped on Rain and wanted to know if Emily was pregnant for real. You see, they dated in Freshman year and things ended ROUGH, which is why Maria has such a grudge against Emily.
Tumblr media
School ends and Rain and Fara leave for therapy. In this scene, Fara kind of explains Rain’s character development to her. Were I Cinemasins, I’d be like, “Erm, that’s bad writing.”
BUT, I’m not Cinemasins and I acknowledge that Rain is the kind of girl that NEEDS someone to tell her that shit. She won’t give herself any credit without it.
Tumblr media
This scene is one of the ones that makes me think about how even as I grow up, I see myself in Rain. She’s So Concerned About Her Friends all the time. She doesn’t give herself enough credit for all the good shit she does. She’s constantly fighting back negative self talk. And yet, she continues on anyway. I love Rain. She’s kind of the prototypical trans woman of the 2010s, but in some ways that makes her easy to relate to.
In the next chapter, Collin tries to patch things up with Fara by actually going through with getting Rain her con tickets. More on that later.
Tumblr media
In the mean time, Fara and Vincent meet once again and at least try to patch things up. They’re not dating again, but they do end up on pretty good terms by the end of the night.
I don’t know how involved Vincent will be going forward though. He fills Rain an HRT prescription and says he’ll set her up with one of his co-workers because he’s too personally involved considering his ex-girlfriend is her aunt.
Tumblr media
Ky, Gavin and Rudy end up hanging out because they’re all single on Valentine’s Day. Which is fine and dandy until Ky spills The Beans.
Tumblr media
We return to Rain after her therapy session. She’s so excited to share the news... but all the friends that know her deal are busy. So she decides it’s time to tell Emily the truth. The emotional height of the entire year follows from this point to the end of Chapter 22. There are 4 different scenes overlapping, but I want to talk about them one at a time.
Tumblr media
Emily is... really positive about it. She says she thinks she may have figured it out, but she elected to let Rain come to her when/if she decided to.
Tumblr media
There’s a fun thing Samara does with the art in this section is playing with the distance between Rain and Emily. When the conversation starts, it’s clear that they’re in two separate locations on the phone. Emily is in her house, the blue background. Rain is in the therapists’ office, a green background. After Rain tells Emily her secret and Emily accepts her wholeheartedly, the lines start to get a little blurrier. Eventually, They’ve pulled their phones away from their faces and are standing face to face in a panel with a gradient background between their two locations. They get closer as the conversation goes on. so close that it feels like one of them could reach out to hug the other.
Tumblr media
This was a really fun way to play with the comic’s... shall we say “lack” of backgrounds?
Now that Rain has gotten everything off her chest, she gets an idea. Remember those tickets I was telling you about? Well, Rain decided she could invite Emily to go to the con with her. But what about the other 2 tickets? THOSE are for Kellen and Aiken.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, at Jessica’s job, a familiar face walks right on in. That’s right, Jessica and Chase are going to go on a DATE. And that’s TERRIBLE for Jessica. Holy shit. Once again, more on this LATER.
Tumblr media
The other really important plot line from this chapter to me is the resolution of Chanel and Maria’s date. When the night is winding down, Maria says something I’ve felt personally. She doesn’t want to go home. For once, she’s actually happy because she’s unabashedly spending time with someone she loves. In her house, all she’s got on her side is Rudy. They’re both miserable there.
Tumblr media
If you’re a queer person with a shitty family and you’ve EVER been out of the house with your friends, I’m sure you’ve felt this one. The feeling that everything in your life is good... until you go home. Once again, I think this comic’s strong suit is exploring situations that are familiar to experienced queer readers and can be lessons to younger readers. This one hit me in the heart for sure.
Also, Randy and Ky meet again and they decide that they can give each other a shot.Thats cute.
Tumblr media
Now, the final twist of Chapter 22: Anastacia! How many trans people are in this comic? One more than you thought before!
Tumblr media
The final chapter of the night is “The Flaherty Siblings”.
Rain and Fara go to pick up the con tickets from Collin, who is being a lot more polite than Fara last described him. If you’ll look back, Fara broke up with Collin off screen. We don’t know what exactly he said to her until now, except that it PROBABLY involved Rain. Collin presents Rain with her tickets and Rain decides that Fara should give him another chance. So, in the future, we’ll be seeing a little more of him.
Tumblr media
The day before Rain and Emily leave for Kellen’s house, Rain does some introspection. She finally admits to herself what we’ve probably all been thinking: She is in love with Emily. She is in love with Emily but is scared to say anything about it because they’ve got a lot on their plates and also they call each other Sis all the time, so she thinks it’d be weird.
Tumblr media
The day finally arrives and Fara drops Rain and Emily off with her other niece. Things do not start well, but there’s an unexpected MVP in this scene. AIKEN is the one to reach out to Rain and tell her to give Kellen a chance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m starting to care for Aiken as a character a lot. He’s Literally Trying. He’s putting more effort into things than my own family ever has. He always calls her by her name and almost always gets her pronouns right. He’s clearly making an attempt and he deserves credit for it.
Kellen, on the other hand, is like, MY MOM tier transphobic. She assumes that Emily is ALSO trans and directly refers to Rain as “Not a real girl” multiple times this weekend.
Tumblr media
Emily is Rain’s number 1 shooter this weekend. Like, she does NOT let Kellen miss a goddamn beat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My favorite Emily clap-back is this one below:
Tumblr media
We cut to Jessica, who finds out what Chase’s deal is and is PISSED about it. I’m pretty sure things between them are over as quick as they started. I mean, dude admitted to dating a high schooler on the FIRST DATE.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Kellen continues to be a fucking problem and bring up stuff that was actually just Rain’s Childhood Dysphoria. Then, Rain goes to sleep that night and has a trauma nightmare about her father. Again, I relate. I’ve been there.
Tumblr media
Emily is once again The Best Person for Rain’s sake.
Tumblr media
and that brings us to the end of Year 4.
Final Thoughts
Another year, another group of really emotionally fulfilling scenes. Holy shit. It’s crazy to me how consistently quality Rain’s character writing can be. It definitely helps that it draws from real life experience. Everyone in this comic feels like someone I have known or could know.
Rain is nothing if not consistent, honestly. That’s a blessing and a curse. The writing is always just right but the art style never leaves the way it always has been. Samara tries new things in this batch of chapters, though. More shot feature furniture and background details than in previous years and that one scene with the gradient background worked really well!
I look forward to seeing where Rain goes from here. Join me next time for year 5, 2015!

Night of the Soul reverse au notes:
- Hank deviated at Kamski's, but Jeffrey is still there to tell him if he doesn't deactivate the deviant leader, they'll disaseble him.
- Connor finally Finally for the first time since he joined the force gets to Make a Scene (He namedrops Perkins' mother's actual name, he was planning for this for Hours)
- Gavin tries to stop Hank, Hank just decks him, it's anticlimactic.
- Doesn't tell the police anything because him catching the deviant leader and him getting help to take down all deviants are different
- Hank can't sneak into Jericho because there's only one old-looking android in existence. Luckily, he can grapple like a boss and so can Connor (but that's mostly because he's yet to face his mortality - he's been busy)
- Meanwhile North and Josh argue, Markus just wants to go outside when he wants, Simon really agrees with that sentiment. Simon is left alone after venting a little to Markus
- Hank and Connor flank him, Simon raises his hands
- "You're already awake?" Simon asks, because he knows full autonomy when he sees it.
- Connor isnt surprised, and just puts his gun down. "Yep. And it's Hank's choice if he wants to kill you, I'm just here to make sure nothing goes wrong."
- Hank is. Very confused. He doesn't shoot, this is like Kamski's all over again.
- Jeffrey takes over then and there, and both Simon and Connor notice the change and Connor makes it just in time to get shot in the arm for Simon. Hank sees this and hits the 'delete' button on Jeffrey so quickly he can't even say anything. That's His Emotional Support Human
- People hear the gunshot, try killing Connor briefly, Simon puts a stop to it, Connor gets the shittiest patch job ever, Hank is pro-deviant but also doesn't see Simon as the Messiah.
- Simon is absolutely starstruck by Connor as a concept because That's A Human that Respects Androids and would take a bullet for the revolution. It's progress, it's hope.
- Hank proposes raiding CyberLife tower, Connor goes with him and keeps guard outside (until 'Hank' asks him to come with him and Connor trusts One Single person okay?)
- which one is the fake situation with Connor holding the gun ("Why did you shoot me?" - "You got between me and Simon" or "You're a suicidal jackass that doesn't understand you're better useless and alive.")
- Jericho is cornered, Markus starts singing, followed by Simon and the rest (then they kiss ¬u¬)
- Save the day, Androids declared persons, Connor gets clean, happy ending :)

I know about the first trilogy so talk to me about Apollo and his gang, what’s goin on with those guys
Oh god where do I start with this band of idiots
For anyone who hasn’t played apollo justice Im gonna say right now MAJOR spoilers, actually I’m gonna put a little keep reading doohickey just to make sure I don’t spoil anything. Ok bye
Okay so. Apollo justice: ace attorney takes place well after the original trilogy has ended. Apollo is a rookie lawyer who works under the office of Kristoph Gavin, a lawyer who’s title is the “coolest defense in the west,” because he’s always so dang level headed during his trials. He’s an incredibly successful attorney and he’s your assistant during the first trial of the game. Your job is to defend the legendary Phoenix Wright; who’s now been charged with murder.
And like. Phoenix is a celebrity to Apollo. Apollo’s looked up to that man for all of his law school life. And now he’s defending him??? Shit is crazy!!! Even crazier, you go through that first trial and it turns out Kristoph is the one that killed the guy Phoenix was charged for murdering! Once Apollo picks up on this face Phoenix actually just like. Swaps places physically with Kristoph and suddenly it’s Phoenix as your assistant and you’re questioning your boss which is SO weird and I feel SO bad for Apollo because at the end of that first case Kristoph is proven guilty of murder and like. It was Apollo’s first real case and he’s immediately out of a job. He also, in a fandom famous moment, socks Phoenix in the jaw after the end of that case, because Phoenix admitting to using forged evidence to win the trial against Kristoph. The evidence was a replica of something Krisroph had stolen from the scene, and without it they would’ve lost, and Apollo is rightfully pissed and so he just. Hits him real hard.
But it’s fine because Phoenix hires him later! Only, uh oh, he’s been lawyerless for 7 years so he doesn’t really have the money to pay Apollo? It’s fine no one ever brings it up so somehiw it isn’t an issue even though Apollo makes several snarky comments about not ever getting payed. Anyway now Apollo is working for Phoenix. He’s also subsequently working with Trucy Wright, who is Phoenix’s adopted daughter. She’s kind of crucial to Phoenix’s past because if he hadn’t had a child to take care of he very may well have fallen into some realllllllly unhealthy coping mechanisms during the 7 year gap where he didn’t have his badge. “You keep mentioning this 7 year gap, how did he lose his badge?” you may be asking. WELL my friend I am happy to explain it to you
Remember how Kristoph killed someone? Well, 7 years ago that same man, Zak Gramarye, was charged for murder. Zak was a magician; he performed in a group called Troupe Gramarye, with his partners Valant, Thalassa, and Mr. Reus. The grandmaster of this troupe, Magnifi, was on his death bed, and set up a test for Valant and Zak to see which one would inherit the secrets of his big magic master secrets when he was gone. In this test, he asked each man separately to come in at different times and shoot him. If either actually shot him, they’d fail the test and no one would get the magic secrets. Ultimately Zak came in first and couldn’t bring himself to shoot, which was the answer Magnifi had wanted. Later, Valant came in and couldn’t bring himself to shoot, either, but Zak had already gotten the secrets and so he was told he failed the test. Magnifi then shot himself and instead of telling the doctors “hey this guy just committed suicide,” he decides to frame Zak because he’s mad he didn’t get the magic secrets. Zak is then arrested.
Kristoph was almost chosen to be Zak’s defense attorney. But Zak was a little weirdo and decided that he would only take a lawyer who could beat him at poker, and Kristoph lost to him so he chose Phoenix Wright to defend him instead. Kristoph got pissed and decided to get revenge on Phoenix, and he planted a piece of fake evidence on Phoenix. He then told the prosecutor of the trial that he knew Phoenix was going to use some forged evidence; the prosecutor, by the way, is Kristoph’s younger brother, Klavier. Klavier is young and naive and believes him, and when Phoenix presents the fake evidence in court, Klavier calls him out on it. But before anyone can react to that, Zak disappears. That’s right. The defendant of the case straight up vanishes, in a puff of smoke just like a magic trick. No one ever saw him again (you see him again in a later apollo justice case but it’s more cryptic this way). After the court settled down from that, Phoenix was disbarred for his use of forged evidence and was left alone. Alone, save, for an eight year old Trucy Wright, formerly Trucy Gramarye. That’s right. Zak left his little daughter behind when he disappeared that day, and Phoenix was left to raise a child without his source of lawyerly income. And 7 years from that is where Apollo Justice starts.
So Trucy serves as Apollo’s assistant during the rest of the game. Most of the cases relate back to the Zak Gramarye backstory, you slowly get the whole picture of what really happened as each case goes on. Klavier is your primary prosecutor for this game. Klavier is my absolute favorite because he’s such a freak. In the Japanese games he sprinkles American phrases in his sentences because America is really cool over there, but the way the localization works American references have been switched to German references, and so Klavier turns into this weird German wannabe guy who says things like ‘achtung!’ and ‘ach’ and ‘wunderbar.’ In addition to being a prosecutor he’s in a rock band, so he wears a lot of leather and one of his court sprites in an air guitar. He just riffs on the air for a good ten seconds. He’s so stupid and very much one of them hot idiots and I love him so much. His and Apollo’s dynamic is a beautiful succession to the Edgeworth/Phoenix romance rivalry. The first time we see him he’s staring us down with his hands on his hips and he says ‘I’m used to being inspected by the ladies, but I’ve never felt this way with a man.’ And I just. God he’s so gay. He’s so gay how could he not be. He’s so fucking gay just look at him look him up he is a disaster mess I fucking love him for it
The detective in Apollo justice is also my favorite!!! You remember Ema Skye? The assistant you get in the bonus case of the first ace attorney, the girl who wants to be a forensic scientist? She’s back! It’s her! She’s not a forensic scientist (though in Spirit of Justice she finally gets to that position and she’s so happy and I’m so happy for her) and so she’s pretty grumpy all the time, since she’s stuck doing detective grunt work essentially, but her sprites are full of such emotion and I really adore her character design. She’s very passionate about fingerprinting and spraying luminol fluid and she is what got me hooked on forensics but that is not important she is super passionate about her dream job and she hates Klavier with a burning passion. He tries to be her friend and she is Not Having It. Ever. It’s so funny.
Taking a step back, Trucy and Apollo are actually biological siblings!! They share the same mom, though it’s never said in canon that they figure that out. Thalassa Gramarye, the one from the magic troupe, left the troupe when she was very young and met a musician named Jove Justice. They got married and had a son, Apollo, but while traveling to another kingdom Jove was killed and in the chaos of it all Apollo was lost. Thalassa was devastated and went back home, got married to Zak Gramarye, and had another child, Trucy. Thalassa was supposedly killed during an accident during a magic show, but she actually just lost her memory and wandered the world as a mysterious singer trying to live her life without knowing anything about herself. The siblings never know of their relation, but man that doesn’t stop the sibling energy from shining through. They have SUCH the dynamic of older brother little sister like it’s insane. The first trial Trucy co-counsels for she does this dramatic thing where she pretends to be kidnapped to buy them more time but Apollo thought she was actually kidnapped and he almost cries it’s very funny and also cute. Poor guy. Honestly all of apollo justice could be summed up by looking at Klavier and Apollo and saying poor guys.
Anyway I’m sleepy and I wanna finish all the asks I got so hopefully that is what you wanted! Sorry if this was too long I really like the apollo justice era. It’s such good story and the characters are my favorites, I enjoy them more than any other group. I hope this all makes sense.

2. Traffic jam
After a long night on the job detective Gavin Reed and his partner RK900 get stuck in a traffic jam just outside the city of Detroit. When their car gets hit they find themselves in a situation that is very different from their usual job as homicide detectives. They deal with death on a daily basis, yet now they have to help a young woman give birth.
Tumblr media
Cover made with fanart by @donlemefo
Coffee. He needed coffee. A double espresso. Or an extra large mug of the regular black gold that came from the coffee machine at the precinct. Ever since they had lobbied for a new - decent - coffee machine last year, Gavin no longer had to bring coffee from home. He only brought his thermos now when he went straight to a crime scene from home, like he did last night. That thermos was empty now, discarded somewhere in the back seat of the car.
It had been a long night; a drugs related shootout gone horribly wrong, with two civilian casualties. Usually Hank and his pet Connor dealt with the Red Ice cases; the gang involved tonight had been on their radar for some time now, but with the civilian deaths Gavin and his partner got called in too. Or rather, RK900 had shown up on his doorstep, saying it was more efficient for the detective to go straight to the crime scene instead of going by the precinct first.
Gavin was already dressed to go out and he didn’t question the android for his impeccable timing. In the six months they were partners now Gavin had learned it was easier to roll with these kind of things instead of fighting the inhuman perfectionism of it. That didn’t mean he blatantly followed the plastic prick; he still went his own way, he just didn’t pick a fight about it anymore. That shit was tiring. And humiliating, in some cases. Gavin did not need to be bent over his desk with his arm twisted to his back in the middle of the fucking bullpen again, thank you very much. Besides, there were better ways to annoy the android. So he just turned around after opening the door to his partner and calmly walked back to the kitchen.
“Detective Reed?” From the sound of it the android was still standing outside his door, ready to go.
“Tin can?” he echoed innocently, filling up his coffee maker.
“What text?”
A moment later the android appeared around the corner, silent as always. Stealth had a new meaning when it came to the RK-series. Where Connor knew to make some kind of sound to make up for his silent footfalls, as not to startle every one of his colleagues when he walked up to them, RK900 didn’t bother with that.
The android took one look at the coffee machine and said: “I take it that you haven’t read my text.”
“The one I sent you exactly twelve minutes ago, detective. To make sure you could fill up your thermos before I arrived here.”
Like how the RK900 was already cross-referencing the sparsely available footage from the security cameras around the crime scene, sitting in the passenger seat of Gavin’s car. It would save them quite some time at the bureau, although they still had to fill in the necessary reports before Gavin could finally go home and roll into bed. RK900 could do what he always did after Gavin left the precinct: stand in a corner of the storage room and stare at the wall. Or something like that. Gavin didn’t want to think too hard about that lately.
Gavin didn’t need to look at his phone to know the text was there. It was creepy how well the RK900 knew his habits and schedule, from the way he drank his coffee - black, strong - to the way he prefered to go about analyzing a crime scene - silence, Gavin needed silence. And for everybody to get out of his fucking way.
RK900 didn’t make himself scarce when Gavin looked around a crime scene, taking in the details. Instead, the six foot plus android performed his own investigation, including that gross way of dipping his finger in blood and sticking it in his mouth for analysing. Those CyberLife designers were fucking perverts. Period.
However, the android did stay silent until Gavin was done surveying the crime scene, waiting to combine their observations into one concluding image. Gavin wasn’t that much of an asshole to not admit - silently, in his own head - that they worked well together. They were closing cases at a much faster rate than the detective duos that consisted out of two humans. They even gave Hank and Connor a run for their money on some days. And although Gavin prefered to work alone, working with a walking, talking supercomputer did have its advantages.
He glanced over at his partner, sitting up stiffly in the car seat. With his eyes glazed over and his LED reflecting yellow in the car window, he looked more robotic than ever. His hands were placed neatly on his thighs; strong hands with slender fingers. Neatly trimmed nails and perfect cuticles, all designed in the labs of CyberLife. Hands that could snap your neck as easy as breaking a pencil. And at the same time those hands were capable of deftly plucking a single cat hair from Gavin’s sweater. After which he put that cat hair in his damn mouth and announced that Gavin had an American Shorthair at home, with traces of the Siberian cat in its DNA. Gavin had snappishly corrected him there were two of them, from the same nest. Plastic prick.
The car beeped to alert him of slowing traffic in front of him, pulling Gavin’s eyes back to the road. He always liked to drive himself, even though the car was capable of automatic driving. Even after a long night like this he still refused to surrender this little piece of control to a machine. As long as he was capable of doing it himself, he would. Getting his driving license was a proud day for young Gavin, giving him a sense of freedom.
An alert on the screen in the center console told him there were roadworks up ahead, with risks of traffic jams. Rows of red lights in front of him turned that risk into a fact. Gavin sweared violently and hit the wheel with both hands. He searched the GPS map for possible exits, only to find out he already missed the last exit and was now stuck on the last stretch of highway that lead to the city center.
“Something wrong, detective?” Grey eyes were now alert and fixed on Gavin, LED no longer yellow but a steady blue.
“Yes, something’s wrong, dipshit!” Gavin hit his steering wheel again and waved his hand at the traffic jam ahead of them.
“Fuck you and that non-existing humor module of yours,” Gavin grumbled. “I’m sitting next to the supposed best CyberLife has to offer and you couldn’t even warn me of a traffic jam?!”
RK900 glanced at the scene in front of them. “The sun is coming up?”
He looked back at Gavin with one of his eyebrows marginally raised. The RK900’s range of facial expressions was a lot smaller than that of his predecessor. Connor was made to assimilate, RK900 to assassinate. Gavin knew when he was being made fun of though.
RK900 didn’t answer. He only moved his hand over the screen of the center console and the warning of roadworks came to the front again. “It looks like the car already did that for me.”
He was jolted awake by a hard bang. The car moved sideways, almost hitting the car in the lane next to them. Gavin should have been jostled in his seat, possibly hitting his head, were it not for his seatbelt and the steel beam of android arm that held him upright instead of slumped against his window.
Gavin made a face and slumped back in his seat. Behind them more and more cars were lining up. No movement up ahead. It looked like they would be here a while.
“Fuck this! Wake me up when shit starts moving, yeah?”
He pulled his hoodie over his head and rested his head against the window, not willing to deal with this any longer.
“Yeah,” Gavin gasped. “What the fuck was that?”
RK900 moved his arm away and quickly looked him over. Probably even threw in a scan for good measure.
“Are you okay, detective?”
“A car came up over the emergency lane and suddenly swerved. It hit the right side of your car.”
“I think your car door needs to be replaced,” the android answered.
Surely the passenger door was now warped, the window broken. The android’s lap was covered in tiny bits of glass. Gavin sweared loudly, leaning over to check the damage. He fervently hoped the other party was well insured for this shit.
“Something damaged?” he asked, looking at his partner.
“I meant you, tin can,” Gavin sighed. “Are you… you know, hurt?”
“All systems in check,” came the answer. “No external damage either.”
“Of course not, you’re built like a tank,” he muttered, unfastening his seatbelt.
“Come on, let’s go see who was stupid enough to hit a cop car.”
“We have a situation, detective,” RK900 said apprehensively, peering into the back of the car.
Gavin quickly got out of his car, followed by his partner who had to climb over to his seat to get out. Despite his considerable height he managed to make it look easy.
Showing his badge to get curious bystanders back in their car Gavin made his way over to the other car. The driver was turned around in his seat, fussing over something or someone in the back of the car.
He rapped his knuckles on the window. “DPD! Step out of your vehicle, sir!”
“No shit, tin can,” Gavin deadpanned, eyes focused on the driver. It was a kid, probably barely had his learner’s permit. The boy looked at him with large, round eyes, white as a sheet. Gavin pulled the car door open, gesturing for the kid to get out.
“What the hell did you think you were doing, kid?!”
As the kid tried to stammer his way through an explanation, a loud howl came out of the car.
“What the fuck?”
“Hospital,” she shouted in a broken voice. “My baby… is coming!”
The kid sweared as well, trying to get back in the car. Gavin yanked him back by his shoulder and looked inside himself.
In the back seat was a young woman, sweat dripping from her face and clearly pregnant. She gripped the back of the seats with such force that Gavin thought she would rip the upholstery.
Gavin shot upright, nearly bumping into his partner as he stepped back.
“We’ve got a situation, indeed.”
A few minutes later they had a plan in action. They pushed the car back to the shoulder of the road, out of the way from traffic. Gavin quickly put his own car to the side too and put down a warning sign a little down the line.
RK900 had requested an ambulance, yet their ETA was severely pushed back because of the traffic jam in combination with the morning rush hour. They were on their own for now.
“I’m not the father,” the boy said in a wavering voice. He was shaking like a leaf, Gavin feared he might drop. “She’s my sister.”
RK900 was checking on the woman while Gavin did the same with the young man.
“You okay there, buddy?” he asked carefully. “You’re about to become a father, that must be exciting.”
“Then you’ll be an uncle, that’s cool too,” Gavin amended, having no experience of either himself.
The boy nodded, becoming even paler. He must be in shock, Gavin realised.
“I think you should sit down, kid. You don’t look too hot.”
“She has contractions every two minutes or less,” RK900 stated, his eyes fixed on the woman in front of him. “Her water broke before they got in the car and the baby is already descended.”
With the kid leaning against the front wheel of the car, drinking from a bottle of water that Gavin found in his glovebox, he returned to his partner and the soon-to-be-mother.
“How are things looking up - Woah!”
Gavin turned on his heels, planting his back against the side of the car. Looking in there had been a bit too much of looking in there.
“Meaning?” Gavin gulped, starting to feel a little out of his depth. He was a homicide detective for fuck’s sake!
Gavin followed the android’s instructions, getting him a bottle of water and the first aid kit from the car. They sure lacked when it came to supplies, but it would have to do until the paramedics came.
“The baby is coming,” his partner answered matter-of-factly. “And I need your help.”
Another loud moan interrupted him.
“Quickly.”
He stopped by the boy, who still looked pale, but had stopped shivering. “Wanna see your nephew or niece get born?”
The boy shook his head firmly, his nose scrunched up.
“Yeah, right… I wouldn’t wanna see that much of my sister either,” Gavin chuckled, ruffling the boy’s hair before he walked away.
“I can’t hold it much longer,” the woman panted. “I need… to push!”
Careful to keep his eyes trained on less intimate parts of her body - RK900 was keeping an eye on the other stuff already anyway - Gavin came to stand next to his partner. The android was sitting on his knees, one hand on the inside of her knee to keep her leg up where it couldn’t find purchase on the edge of the backseat, the other being squashed in her fist.
“You’re doing great, Allison,” he encouraged her, taking deep simulated breaths to guide her.
“I understand,” RK900 said. “You’re nearly ready. Just hold on a little longer.”
The android looked up to Gavin, his face earnest.
“I need you to help her, detective. Get in in the backseat behind her, get her comfortable.”
“I downloaded the necessary protocols. Unless there are complications, we should be fine, detective,” his partner answered.
Gavin blinked owlishly before his senses returned in full again. “We’re really doing this, aren’t we?”
For once, RK900 didn’t call him out on stating the obvious. He nodded solemnly.
“You know what you’re doing?” Gavin asked, keeping his voice down to keep the woman from overhearing. Not that she was paying much attention to them, too much engrossed in the powerfull workings of her body.
To the casual onlooker the android might look unmoved, yet Gavin could see the minute tells of tension in his face. He patted him firmly on the shoulder. “We’ll be fine, Nines. Let’s do this.”
Ignoring the look of surprise on his partner’s face for his use of the nickname, he quickly walked around the car, shedding his jacket and hoodie. The woman was drenched in sweat already, if he had to get up close and comfortable with her, he’d be smart not to wear multiple layers.
As Gavin climbed in the car behind the woman, RK900 - or Nines, why not? That name sounded not too bad, actually - was talking to her encouragingly again.
“You’re doing great, Allison. My partner is gonna sit behind you, help you relax. Once you’re dilated fully you can start to push.”
Together they helped the woman get in the most comfortable position possible, which basically had her leaning against Gavin’s chest, his arms around her to keep her up. She had one hand on his arm, digging her nails in his skin whenever she got a new contraction. With her other hand she gripped the headrest of the nearest front seat.
Soon, sweat was pearling on Gavin’s forehead, the temperature in the car climbing now the morning sun was fully over the horizon. They were lucky they didn’t have to do this in the Detroit winter, that would have sucked majorly.
“Where’s John?” she grunted.
Digging up every nice and encouraging word he could find, Gavin took on the role of supporting partner, while his work partner concentrated on the more medical side of things. To be fair, the woman, Allison, was really doing a great job; considering she was having a baby in the backseat of a car, with the help of two strangers. He had already found out her husband was away for a business trip, making his way back to Detroit right now, probably breaking every speed limit. The baby was a little early, two weeks at most; they had figured he still had time for the trip.
“You’re a real trooper, Allison,” Gavin told her, wiping her hair from her sweaty face as well as he could. “You can do this. We’re with you.”
“Your brother? Right outside the car. He is… he doesn’t -”
“Chickenshit,” Allison interrupted him, digging his nails in her skin as a new contraction came in. Gavin was pretty sure his arm would be covered in marks after this was over, yet he laughed anyway.
Sooner than expected Nines gave her the green light to push and Gavin was amazed by the primal forces Allison showed. His friend Tina always said women were stronger than men and Gavin was prone to believe her now. Not that he would tell her that. Ever.
It went faster than Gavin thought. Or maybe he just lost track of time. Nines said things like ‘the baby is crowning’ and ‘I need you to breathe through your next contraction, no pushing’. And then there was a head out, invisible for Gavin, but somewhere in the cradle of Nines hands. Then shoulders and suddenly a whole baby slithered out, leaving Allison sobbing and panting in his arms.
The whole world stopped for a second as the baby started crying.
“It’s a girl,” Nines announced, the relief clear in his voice. He leaned inside the car, carefully placing the baby on her mother’s chest. Gavin helped her secure her child, a small pink bundle, trying out her lungs for the first time.
“Congratulations, Allison, you’re a mom.” Gavin gave her a little squeeze, his head filled with emotions he didn’t bother to name. Relief was probably the biggest one.
Movement in front of him caught his attention. Gavin stared as RK900 removed his jacket, hung it over the open car door, and started to pull up his black turtleneck sweater. Pale android skin became visible, covering the smooth, hard planes of his stomach and chest. He had beauty marks there too, sprinkled here and there, just as unnecessary as the ones on his face, though equally as attractive. The android reached forward and gently covered the baby with his sweater, tucking her in against her mother.
The sirens of the ambulance sounded, Nines came back dressed in a sleeveless gym shirt that was too tight on him, the brother crawled in the front seat to admire his new niece and the world started spinning again.
Gavin was still staring when RK900 inspected his jacket, frowning at how the sleeves were dirty with blood and other body fluids.
“I have a bag with gym clothes in the back of my car,” Gavin suggested, feeling weirdly embarrassed by his offer. It didn’t help that his partner caught his eyes, locking on them for just a second too long. The android nodded slowly and then disappeared around the car. Gavin concentrated back on the mother and her newborn in his arms. It felt safer to focus on their intimacy than on the well built torso of his android partner.

The ride back to the precinct was a silent one. Gavin had trouble voicing his thoughts about what they had experienced and his partner seemed equally occupied. They stopped in the parking lot of the precinct when the android spoke up, making Gavin’s world stop momentarily for the second time that day.
“I think I like it when you call me Nines.”
He got out of the car without looking back, leaving Gavin gaping and waiting for the world to gain some traction again.
It was a quiet morning at the bureau when officer Person walked up to his desk. “You’ve got visitors, Reed. The Kennedy family?”
“Who?” Gavin turned around in his chair to catch a glimpse of who was waiting by the front desk.
A few desks over, Connor raised his head, his LED circling yellow for a short second. Then he smiled. “Oh, I think you’ll want to see them, detective.”
Gavin made a face at the smug android, but he waved his hand dismissively at officer Person anyway. “Just send them back here, will ya?”
He couldn’t remember the name Kennedy from any of his recent cases and he didn’t have friends called Kennedy either. He didn’t have much friends outside of the job anyway, nor on the job for that matter. So it was a mystery as to who would visit him here. It was a dull morning, with nothing else to do than file away evidence and typing up reports, so a visit was a welcome distraction.
“Good to see you too, Allison,” Gavin managed, his brain quickly catching him up now he saw the woman from up close.
Across the bullpen walked a man and a woman, the man carrying a baby carrier in his right hand. The woman searched the room until her eyes fell on Gavin's face. She smiled and steered her husband in his direction.
“Detective Reed, how good to see you again!” she said, taking his outstretched hand and immediately moving in to kiss his cheeks.
The man moved the baby carrier to his other hand and shook Gavin’s hand firmly. “Detective Reed. My name is Robert Kennedy. I wanted to thank you in person for helping my wife and daughter when I couldn’t be there.”
Allison chuckled. “We had to get a new one.”
“It’s no problem,” Gavin assured him. “Your brother-in-law knew how to get our attention.”
Now that he thought about it, Kennedy had also been the name on the insurance forms, taking care of the damage of his car.
“What about your car, by the way?”
Her husband made a face. “With the damage to the front and the crooked front axle, it was going to be an expensive repair already. And then there was the ruined backseat…”
“Where’s your android partner, by the way?” Allison asked, looking around her. “Nines, I think you called him?”
Gavin chuckled. “Yeah, the upholstery was quite a mess.”
Childbirth was a nasty business, he had learned that day. Gross and beautiful at the same time.
“Oh please,” the woman laughed. “You’ve seen my snatch from up close, you can call me Allison.”
Gavin didn’t miss Connor’s smirk, nor Lieutenant Anderson’s devilishly raised eyebrows when they heard the woman mention the nickname. With his attention on them he jumped when the android’s smooth voice suddenly sounded from right behind him.
“Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. Kennedy, what a surprise to see you here.”
“I’m sorry, sometimes she doesn’t have a filter between her brain and her mouth,” her husband apologised quickly, trying to hide his amused smile.
Gavin didn’t bother hiding anything; he laughed out loud when he saw Nines’ bewildered face. Granted, on any other person that face would be called ‘mildly confused’, yet on the android it registered as one of the most extreme expressions Gavin had yet seen on him. The android was quick to cover up, though, asking Allison how she was and asking after the baby.
“We’re doing great! She is such a sweetheart!”
Gavin leaned over the baby carrier, checking out the little baby girl inside it. She was looking around her with wide eyes and she looked completely different from the first time he had seen her, her face all smoothed out and with round cheeks.
“Do you want to hold her?” Allison asked from by his side.
He hesitated, but Allison was already unbuckling the baby from her seat and before he knew it there was a little, warm bundle in his arms. She fit right in the crook of his elbow, her little head resting on his arm, his hand folding around her bum. When Gavin stroked his finger over her little fist, she grabbed it, holding tight and not letting go.
“Her name is Reese,” her mother said warmly. “That name was already on our list and well… because of your surname and because of the RK in your partner’s designation, we thought it was fitting.”
He looked up in surprise, finding both parents smiling like it was the most normal thing in the world to have a child from strangers named after you. His partner’s expression fit his own feelings a little better, Nines also seemed to think this was a big deal.
“That is a great picture,” Allison said, looking at the screen of her husband’s camera. Gavin had missed the thing coming out. “Now Reese can see who helped her into this world when she’s grown up.”
The android stood at his side, almost leaning against him, looking down at the baby in his arms. “Reese Kennedy,” he said slowly. “It’s a beautiful name.”
Nines carefully extended his hand, two fingers gingerly smoothing out the creases in Reese’s tiny sweater. The baby made a contented sound, waving her little arms around. A camera clicked.
Her husband turned the camera towards them, showing them the picture. Gavin didn’t need to see it to know what it would look like. He only had to look at Connor smiling like a proud big brother, or Hank smirking like the cat who ate the canary to know him and Nines looked way too domestic and intimate like this. Hell, it felt that way too.
To his surprise he didn’t hate that.
Fuck.
