PART TWO - I am thankful for the brave officers who walk into that dark world at the shout of command, at times single-crewed, not knowing what they’ll see (some images never leave you), whom they’ll meet, how many, what their intentions are, what their mental state is (drugged, drunk, suicidal), if they’re armed, what they’re capable of, and whether they and their colleagues will make it home to their families at the end of that shift. All while being shouted at, spat at, and given constant abuse.  Like the wonderful NHS staff, they worked through COVID, I salute them and all our emergency workers. I think it’s now time we civilians understood what's been happening to the future of our, and our children’s, security. When Theresa May was Home Secretary £50M was taken from the police budget, the aftermath of which is being experienced now, our police service has slowly been run to the ground. The thin blue line is paper thin, it’s tearing. Stations are understaffed, under-resourced, and do not have the tools for the job. Custody blocks have been closed, courts are backlogged, and the criminals are winning. Officers and civilian staff are overworked, suffering from mental health (some suicidal), and leaving in their droves. Courts are failing and communities are not getting the service they need or pay for. For years the privileged government has been asked to help rebuild but to no avail. It’s time that we civvies spoke out, used our voice, and asked them to listen, to do what they're paid for - if they can stop squabbling amongst themselves for a moment...
