Being abandoned on the road in the middle of nowhere wasn’t the worst thing to ever happen to Whumpee —Whumperee now, because why not?—, the worst thing was they weren't truly in the middle of nowhere.

His house was in the middle of nowhere —getting away from crowded areas just made when you kidnap and torture a nurse— which meant that he wasn't alone on the road; Scarly was there too.

"It's like Russian roulette," she had said, "How is your luck today?"

Bad. They thought. If there is a god somewhere Whumperee was screaming in their ear for mercy, for a car passed by and sees him there, tied up, bleeding. Hurting so much.

"What do you think comes first?" Scarly asked, "A car or a heat stroke?"

Now, alone in the middle of the road, with the sun burning him down, making the open wounds feel like fire, Whumperee had no hope for a car to come by.

If there is a god somewhere, they would be surprised at the sudden change in the loud despaired screaming, the voice isn't asking for a car anymore, it's only begging for Scarly to have enough mercy to take them back under the shadowed torture hell.

When Scarly approached slowly, Whumperee was sure; there is a god, but they are really curious to see how far Scarly can get.
