What lessons did they learn from their time on the First?

oooof Seike goes through an immense amount of growth during her time in the First but where she gains understanding and learns new skills, she also backslides a lot into self destructive behaviours. I think, however, that the biggest takeaway for her is how easily she could have become Emet-Selch. After seeing the Scions collapse and nearly stabbing the Crystal Exarch for it she can sympathize with him in a way she doesn't really want to examine. If her back was against the wall and everyone else was gone and there was even a sliver of hope that she might bring them back - she wants to say that she wouldn't kill for it but seeing what time has done to Emet she's suddenly not too sure. She hates the Azem soul crystal and she blocks out whatever feelings resonate from her Ancient self completely, even so Seike can't help but pity him from her own heart. She would never admit that she does - especially knowing what the Ascians have done to Thancred, she keeps it to herself. On another note she also learns why she was so drawn to Ardbert when they came to the Source and his company helps her heal in a way that someone who isn't of the same soul would ever understand. Ardbert keeps her sane and stable during a majority of the time and later, when G'raha works up the courage to ask about the Warrior of Darkness from the First she simply murmurs 'I love him', into her cup. How could she not? And in loving Ardbert she is forced to love parts of herself, too, which is very healthy and needed at that point.

Something I noticed about the music in the most adorable scene from the Mario Movie 🥹❤️💚✨

Yesterday I shared a post on my instagram account (san.marioluigifan) on something I noticed a while ago about the music that plays in the most adorable scene, and also one of my favorites, from the Mario Movie 🤭👀

I'm obviously referring to this scene 👇🥹❤️💚✨

Have you noticed the music that plays while Mario and Luigi hug? 🥹 We can hear the main theme of the movie, but it mixes with the Level Complete theme from Super Mario Bros. You can check it here! The main theme starts at minute 3.14, but then at 3.20, Level Complete from the NES game starts playing and it mixes perfectly well with the first one.

And it makes perfect sense! 🤩👏🏻 After all, everything Mario wants most for much of the movie plot is to be reunited with Luigi, and, since in this scene he's just rescued him and they're finally back together, we could say that Mario has, in a sense, completed the level 🤭🥹

I adore this scene with all my heart 🥹 From the first time I saw it in the cinema it reached deep inside, and every time I watch it again, I'm moved to tears - it's so beautiful and adorable and touching! 😭 It perfectly shows the strong and solid bond that exists between the siblings, filled with love and adoration, and I can’t help but melt every time I watch it 🥹❤️💚

I mean, look at their faces when Mario catches Luigi in mid-air and they see each other after days apart – they’re the picture of joy! 🥺😭 Luigi's smile couldn't be wider, I think it's the time he smiles the most in the whole movie, and Mario is so relieved to be reunited with his beloved little brother at last! 😭

In fact, he’s so happy that he can’t hug Luigi just once: notice how he joins his forehead to Luigi's in order to reassure him and make sure he’s safe and sound, notice how strongly and eagerly Mario hugs him a second time, notice how he lifts him up in the air out of sheer emotion! 😭 And his happy face when he finally puts Luigi on the ground 🥹 And Luigi's sigh of relief after understanding that he’s not dreaming and that his brother has really saved him and is back with him, AW 🥹💚❤️

This scene just makes my heart so warm! 😭💖 And when I realized that the Level Complete theme was playing, I was like, "This just makes this scene even more perfect than it already is! 👏🏻" I love it so much! 🥹💖

Had you guys noticed this? Are you as moved as I am by the embrace of these adorable brothers? 🤭🥹 I wish I could pull them off the screen to give them a big hug myself, I adore them way too much 🥹❤️💚✨

going on a deepdive into 3DS/DS purikura games

I saw this image on a tumblr post and I wanted to look for the original source (so I could properly credit the person and to find out what game it was):

I couldn't find the original, however, I did find this yahoo ask asking what game it was.

The person answering seemed to think it was a hello kitty game, likely because of the hello kitty sticker used to cover the face of the person taking the selfie, but it's clearly one that was added after the photo of the DS was taken, it's not a sticker that exists within that software.

As you can see here, it seems to be a piece of hello kitty fanart- it's not official art, and therefore not featured in the game. This helps with my search a bit.

Also, I believe this is a 3DS title, not a DSI/DS one like the person above suggested- the "select" button in the home menu is the same as the o3DSXL's. This suggests this game was published BEFORE the n3DS series was released.

I remembered playing a game in the past called "Sanrio Picross" that had some purikura elements, however, that game doesn't allow you to edit photographs, and upon looking at them side by side, the UI is completely different.

I googled "3DS purikura game" (purikura being the Japanese word for photo booth) and the only result was "Sparkle Snapshots." From what I could see, the 3DS title didn't have UI that matched either. I decided to look up the DSI game as a last ditch effort into this line of thinking and I didn't find anything.

I did find a screenshot of the title screen on khinsider VGM and the title song goes HARD.

It doesn't seem like this is a purikura game, (or at least not solely), so my research must continue. The next thing I looked into was the UI. I know some Japanese, not very much, but enough to read some basic katakana.

Under the X button it says "Zoom." The L button seems to say "Erase Button."

And it seems that R and A also say "Erase Button." Start obviously says "Menu" It seems like this is a very basic game.

For the bottom screen, it was taken at an angle and it contains some Kanji, so I put it through some photo editing to make it easier to read.

Typing that into google translate I got "Saved! Do you continue doodle?" (and then obviously yes/no)

The phrasing of doodle is interesting. This implies it could be an art program, like the yahoo commenter suggested earlier.

Searching up 3DS art programs doesn't really help me, and coloring games doesn't work either...

My last resort is to go through every 3DS game released in japan, (since we already have a copy of every game ever released for the 3DS online...) However, before I do that, I'm going to look for this image some more.

I found it running rampant on pinterest...

No one else seems to know what it is either LOL.

However, the version on pinterest is significantly higher quality!

Next step, finding more games. I simply need to try to find MORE games. Because I know what the UI looks like, it shouldn't be too hard.

I'll run this search again and just scroll till I see a new lead...

Oh, that was quick!

I found a series called "minna no" which seems to be similar to the "imagine" series in the US- just kind of children's shovelware that never got translated to english.

I ran a search for みんなの (Minna no) on google and...

Huh that sounds familiar... oh my god.

OH MY GOD.

It'S THE SAME FUCKING GAME THE GUY FROM EARLIER WAS TALKING ABOUT. The one I dismissed entirely because it was a DSi title and the game's UI wasn't DSi? It was a 3DS title.

The best part about all of this... the best part about all of this... the UI doesn't even match at all. I went full circle and just accidentally proved this guy completely wrong.

I checked the rest of the minna no games, and yup, no dice. It's some other title.

Next up, I looked at Girls RPG Cinderella Life, mostly because it kept coming up over and over during my research- and holy shit their website is adorable.

Their website is an accessibility nightmare, but it's absolutely adorable. If you are into web design at all, I'd recommend checking it out.

While trying to find more images I found out the game was in this pretty holographic packaging. God I'm jealous. More games should do this.

Either way I can't seem to find any images on this, so it's going on the list of possible candidates. And While looking up this game, I found more under the same artstyle that also might be culprits.

While trying to find more information, I realized how many of these games there are. And also how many of them I have played in the past, lol.

I've been a big fan of Style Savvy (AKA Girls Mode) and I've tried out Girls Fashion Shoot, which was an english translation from a different game series about becoming a model.

Yet another knocked off the list!

By extension, the second game is also knocked off the list.

Another model game- this one called Neco*Petit Girls Runway. Another dud, but also very cute.

Pretty Rhythm series seemed to have a camera function but it didn't line up with the UI shown in the screen either.

If anyone has any more ideas or lists of games, please tell me below! I need to take a break from researching this, and I'll need to play some of that JS model game from earlier, since I doubt anyone has used the photo function during a youtube Let's Play, but based on the UI, I sincerely doubt that it's the one we are looking for.

No one remembers Anime Spiral

What do kids even do on the internet? I'm genuinely asking. Everything revolves around social media and that's fine but what do they do. Are their cool things they can do anymore?

There used to be websites and you would just wander the internet on the family computer. Newgrounds. Gaia Online. Neopets. Yahoo Games. Quizzila. Live Journal... I'm not saying they were all great but they were something to do and... no i'll commit, they were great. I wasn't worried about posting pictures of myself when i was busy watching a flash animation of Dragonball Z that someone put painstaking hours into.

A lot of younger kids and teens don't know how to download something and save it to a particular folder on their computer because they've never used a computer. Meanwhile we were somehow... coding our Myspace pages to have a particular background. When did we acquire that knowledge?

In 2004/2005 i went looking for Inuyasha pictures, as one did, and i stumbled upon a site of people posting fanfiction? Sign me up... Anime Spiral was the wild west of chaos fanfic writers. People would make banners for their work that would sit in their summary sections. God help you, but those seizure inducing flashing colors were going to get your attention.

People would write anything, stories, poems, lyrics. People would post art and open commissions for people to ask for things in the comments, and the OP would just do it... There were frantic collaborations. Some were really good. Some were really bad.

There were chaotic originally stories with random anime characters thrown in for fun because who was going to tell them they couldn't? Some people just ranted to anime characters and i will always remember Ask Sesshomaru where you'd ask Sesshomaru a question in the comments and the next chapter he would answer every.single.question. The fact that it was probably a 16 year old girl writing that just didn't matter.

Some people just posted picture of anime characters. They did all the internet searches so you didn't have to! They were harder to find then.

The comment/response section to this day... was the best format i've seen on a fanfic site (imo). It was so easy. I miss it! I miss going to my word processing class and pulling up that site and chatting with people in the freaking comments of whatever...terrible story i'd posted at the time. I was probably so proud of it then but yikes...

The notification system was good and it was easy to talk to people without it feeling intrusive.

Maybe Anime Spiral was Tumblr before Tumblr.

I met two strangers on Anime Spiral a week apart. Internet dangers weren't as obvious then as they seem now. Those two strangers became two of my best friends. It's been nearly twenty years and they are still so prevalent in my life.

I met my best friend on that site. That seems so impossible to me now. We never would have met otherwise and i can't imagine my life without them. We were so upset when Anime Spiral went down. We missed the ugly green and mustard yellow template to this day.

It wasn't a great site, it had it's problems... It had a lot of problems but at the same time, it was a great site. It's hard to find people who even remember Anime Spiral anymore. Going to FF .net or Fiction Press afterwards felt like... a downgrade somehow. The systems overly complicated and it lacked...something.

I do enjoy the hell out of AO3, it actually checks all the boxes for a great writing site, but i'll always remember the chaotic nostalgia of Anime Spiral.

What do kids do on the internet now? Is it safe? Is it just selfies, gossip, and bullying? Do you have a little dragon you can take care of? Neopets could take up a lot of their attention. I don't think 2024 Neopets is the same as 2005 Neopets and that's a shame.

I have no idea. I feel old.

a modified list of rules for requesting for TADC! for the most part its the same as the original post, but with some important modifications! The inbox part is especially important as I will likely close and reopen requests several times depending on how many are sent in! While I did have loads of fun doing all the requests last week it was very overwhelming and extremely taxing on my mental and physical health <\3

How to request!

sending in a request is simple! you can go into my inbox and send in the character(s) you want! you can describe what kind of reader you want, as well as put in any scenario you want! If you are unsure on whether or not my requests are open, you can refer to my bio, which i keep up to date with of the request status! What all you can request will be detailed below!

Vakama and Krakua

⬇️Thoughts and ramblings below the cut⬇️

Just for the sake of fun and games, this would more or less occur during the Metru Nui Arc. Krakua is already a Toa, has been for a while now, and is in Metru Nui because he heard that the Kanohi Vahi would be around, having heard around the Order and been chosen because he can be discrete and quick, which he'll need to ve because there are a lot of Vahki around, Teridax is hiding somewhere, and there are Dark Hunters. Also for fun and games, Takua and Jaller will be somewhat present, so yahoo

There are MANY ways that Krakua meets Vakama and the Toa Metru. One way they meet is Krakua saves Vakama when Vakama is sneaking into Ta-Metru and is nearly caught by Vahki. Another way is the Toa regathering at the Great Temple and are surprised to see who they at first think is Toa Lhikan, but then he speaks and it's Krakua. Another is Krakua saves the Toa from being captured by Visorak, which is totally not recycled from that one two-part post I made with Ackar

The Toa have their reactions. Nokama is alert and intrigued, Nuju is hella guarded, Whenua is VERY intrigued, Onewa is annoyed to be dealing with some new Toa he's never heard of, and Matau is both happy to meet a possible new friend, but also a little jealous and annoyed to meet someone who's literally a badass and shows him up in a lot of ways, especially with that pretty, shiny armor he has

Vakama's reaction is a mixed bag, and he feels a lot of things at once. Hope that Lhikan wasn't the last Toa, and that the team has someone who can show them the ropes, some anxiety and A LOT of insecurity because the new guy is VERY good at what he does and might as well be someone Lhikan had saved as a last resort thatno one else knew about, some fascination because the stranger is confident and has very lovely armor and the Mask-maker in Vakama is wondering who made the mask and armor and how both got so pristine and sleek, and finally some, "Oh, no, he's hot," when Krakua actually turns his attention to Vakama to get some answers on who the team is

That's another thing: Krakua has questions and would like answers and would rather not beat the Toa for it because he'd rather be allies than enemies. The Toa are divided on whether or not they really should trust the new guy, but Vakama is dead quiet, unable to focus because Krakua, unlike the other Toa that have huddles together and are very stand-offish towards him(Krakua), stands aside and admires the Great Temple, maybe even keeps the Matoran in one place by simply tapping his weapon against the ground or even hums quietly as he meanders. He's also very soft spoken, never raising his voice higher than a murmur, at most. The other Toa are trying to vote, but they can get a solid vote because Vakama's enthralled with the new Toa. They ultimately decide to let Krakua join, seeing as how they could use his guidance and he's the only thing their possible new leader can focus on

Somewhere along the journey with Krakua, Takau and Jaller see that Vakama is VERY distracted and while neither can blame him, they also know what's up and Takua tries to be little wingman and make Vakama sound as impressive as possible to Krakua, who's amused by Vakama's friends and Takua's enthusiasm, even if he notices something off about Takua, i.e. his name, low tolerance for heat, and even how he doesn't know much of his past. Jaller takes care of that by "accidentally" making Vakama trip and fall down with and on Krakua. And Krakua does not take that well when he instinctively throws and pins Vakama to the wall, thinking he was about to be attacked. It's pure instict from training and experience, but Krakua still tells Vakama, Takua, and Jaller to be careful

Is this ship one-sided? At first it is, but then Krakua begins to catch on that there's more to Vakama than he thinks. His guard is up because he hasn't got a lot of experience trusting people, Ta-Matoran/Toa no less, because of his past and because of being in the Order of Mata Nui, but that guard lowers as Vakama, unlike the other Toa, isn't very loud(by Krakua's standards, at least), tends to sing when he thinks no one's looking, and is capable and strong in his own right, he tends to lead from the back and isn't crazy, like the others thing he is, and the visions are also what get Krakua's attention because Vakama could show them the path, if he knew what he was seeing

Vakama's also, for lack of a better term, a nerd, being very good at math, mask-making, and being a good shot with a disk launcher, and also very protective of his friends, new and old, which are things that are admittedly endearing

With the team, Krakua usually takes over night watch, in case everyone needs to sleep, and when he's joined by Vakama, the two sit in silence for a while, maybe sit back-to-back, and, as a weird funny moment, Krakua asks Vakama if he's scared of if there's something he's not really telling anyone else because his heart is POUNDING and Krakua can hear it. It surprises Vakama because he can't hear as well as Krakua and, while he and the other Toa have seen him fight, they never reslly learned what his elemental power was, so it's a shocker to hear he's a Toa of sonics/sound, which Krakua demonstrates by targeting an empty barrel or something and clapping his hands, the sound knocking the barrel down. Vakama's very amazed and impressed, regardless of how "basic" Krakua makes it

There's some teacher/mentor stuff, Krakua teaches the Toa Metru how to fight and how to fully "connect" with their elemental powers, but not 100% teacher/mentor because sometimes the team functions as it usually does and Krakua watches six different Toa figure out how to be a team and talk stuff through, as much as they can, at least, and there are thungs that Vakama and the other Toa Metru have to teach him, amd one of them is to actually let himself sleep at night when he's exhausted to the poont that their talking in indoor voices sounds like shouting for him. Vakama helps by humming and singing under his breath

Outsider perspective, Yeah. The team KNOWS there's something growing between Krakua and Vakama. They see it in the way the two look at each other for one more second, in the tiny little smile that Krakua has when Vakama isn't looking, in the way Vakama speaks both quietly and yet so excited and quickly when Krakua really gets him going, when Vakama's following their "training" and more or less freezes whenever Krakua helps to fix his stance and posture, when Krakua speaks so quietly to Vakama the others can't hear him and Vakama slightly freezes at being so close to the Toa of Sonics, and even the muffled, barely hidden fits of laughter from them both when they're on watch duty at night or whenever the Toa rest. It's a double-edged sword, too: As good as it is to see Vakama be more confident and step up when the team can't really decide who else should, there's the catch that they know Krakua doesn't belong in Metru Nui or with them, that he's only with them because he wants/needs something that they have

Vakama somewhat knows this as well, but admits that he's only working on the Mask of Time because it helps his nerves. Krakua, having spent a lot of time with the Mask-maker, is stuck between the "for the greater good" feeling of asking for Vakama to hand over the mask or taking it from him either by force or by just stealing it from him and more of those icky personal feelings of not wanting to take the possibly greatest creation someone made after years, DECADES, of hard work and gaining his trust, earning his respect and learning so much about him

Krakua does have some trust issues, having been in the Order of Mata Nui, where everyone is mostly on "business partner" terms, so getting close to Vakama, talking with him and letting him inspect his armor and how it stays so sterile, despite all the fighting he does. One of the most vulnerable moments the two share is Vakama seeing that Krakua has scars(idk if Bionicle can even scar, just play along), years and years' worth of scars, and while Krakua admits that he's forgotten the story behind most of them, but one scar he got when his village was attacked and he was found by the Order of Mata Nui. Vakama sees these scars, maybe traces one with his fingers, and admits he wishes he could mend them; as a mask-maker, he can fix things like scratches and fractures on masks, but can do nothing on physical bodies. Krakua appreciates those words and more just means in slightly whenever Vakama traces another scar

The love language between these two is physical touch and singing. I imagine Krakua is possibly touch starved and Vakama is the type to freeze up and maybe turn to putty when either feels a hand on his shoulder or on the side of his face/mask. And the image of the two just holding each other with their foreheads touching is cute. They do sing and catch each other singing. It's something they do for each other, mostly, but the other Toa catch on

They do have their issues, kind of. Krakua notices when Vakama gets in his head and starts acting harshly and rashly after Lhikan dies and reminds him that the team is also grieving the loss of Lhikan and pushing himself to move forward will hurt them more than help. It leads to an argument and things being said that neither means, but Krakua steps back and tells Vakama to go and find the other Matoran, if he really wants to, but Krakua won't be joining them

The Toa Metru still go to find the other Matoran, and Krakua's absence is felt through the team, even when Nokama nearly dies and they have no experienced Toa of sound to help her. They're still paralyzed and surrounded by Visorak, but before they're captured, the cries of the Visorak grow louder, the spiders unable to stop themselves, and one by one the Visorak drop to the ground, either dead or unconscious. And Krakua steps out of the shadows, admitting that is one of the less merciful ways to deal with enemies, using sound and vibration to harm them, but it's effective

The Toa Metru are thankful for the rescue, and surprised to meet the Rahaga, but Vakama and Krakua are briefly on shaky terms before they save each other and spend time together again. Maybe Vakama even admits he knows Krakua just wants the Kanohi Vahi and tells him that, as powerful as it is, he'll let him have it, if he can find it. Krakua also admits that he's hesitant to get the Vahi because one he dies, his mission is complete and he has to leave and but come back, which sucks because he likes the Toa Metru, weird, loud, and sometimes brainless as they are, but more specifically he's grown fond of their leader, who's so many things at once that it kept his stay interesting. It's meant to be a touching moment, a sort "is, but isn't," love confession between the two as they realize that if they had any control over their destinies, they'd use that control to be with each other

Imagining a two v. two in the Hordika arc with Roodaka and Sidorak fighting Vakama and Krakua. It's not 100% an even fight, but it's even enough as Roodaka deals most of the "damage" while Vakama and Krakua look out for each other and make sure the other is alright. Though, really, the two are a distraction as Keetongu joins the fight(they found him for the Rahaga) and the fight changes tides, leading to our heroes gaining the upper hand. UNTIL Roodaka blasts Keetongu and Krakua off the tower. Vakama freezes for a moment and dives after them, jet pack ready. While he catches them, he can't really pull them both up in time and ends up hitting the ground pretty hard with both Krakua and Keetongu close by. Both Toa are injured and can't move all that well when Roodaka and Sidorak find them, Sidorak getting overconfident because the two could have been pretty good allies. Krakua, noticing Keetongu isn't fully out, tells Vakama to try and cover his ears and shouts, using whatever strength he has to make the sound a little louder, more piercing, and it's a good enough distraction for Keetongu to get up and kill Sidorak.

There are more thoughts that are more fanfic-y than anything, these are just what I have off the top of my head

what's your personal story with lumineon? i'm really happy to see empoleon, cradily, and fidough here since they're some of my own favorites! - 🦢

ogh ty for asking, i forget if i've shared this before but even if i have i'm doing it again LOL

even though FRLG was my first pokemon game, for a variety of reasons, i consider sinnoh/gen 4 to be my true childhood pokemon games. despite this, my childhood memory is extremely spotty (i am almost 24 years old + i have a severe dissociative disorder, i don't remember shit ever LOL) and so my memories of actually playing gen 4 are very few and far between. but lumineon is involved in two of the ones i still manage to hold onto

in pokemon diamond, i actually completed the natdex as a child, which was an arduous process that took me a Really long time, i don't know how long. i unfortunately no longer have this save file. gen 4 was obviously the dawn of wifi features and i always wanted to complete my dex in FRLG but i couldn't because i didn't have the hardware/games to trade with myself and i didn't have friends (in fact i was bullied pretty severely for liking pokemon, i had to change schools) so when i could use the GTS and trade with people online i got VERY excited about dex completion, and just like, interacting with people. i managed the task with a mix of breeding eevees and evolving them into eeveelutions as trading chips on the GTS and using my mom's yahoo account without her permission to ask for trades from people on fucking Yahoo Answers lol (sorry mom SDJKSD)

i don't actually remember doing most of this, i was just able to put it back together with context clues from my pearl file that survived and things i am just vaguely aware happened but don't actually have Sensory Memory of. BUT what i do remember is that one night i realized i was finally almost done and somehow the finneon line is the one line of pokemon i never got. they were the Final Dex Entries i needed. i did everything in a really weird order and wasn't prioritizing the sinnoh regional dex lol

so i went and caught a finneon and grinded it to evolve it into lumineon. i think the reason i remember this is because i was so close to being done, i was way more impatient with grinding than usual, and then just like. the sheer pride and relief i felt when that finneon evolved and then scrolling through the complete dex list is like nothing i had ever felt before gonna be honest. high point of my childhood

even back then i formed an attachment to lumineon in this moment and i used that lumineon for other stuff in sinnoh. i don't remember how i found this out, but one of the first competitive doubles strategies i ever learned was that thunder always hits in rain, and i knew that my lumineon had rain dance through level-up and i had a luxray with thunder, and i was Obsessed with pokemon battle revolution, so i have a brief memory of spamming thunder with my luxray after setting up the rain with lumineon and being really proud of myself for that (even though there's way more optimal ways to do this that i'm aware of now LOL, cut me some slack i was 8 years old)

this is a really long explanation cause i wanted to really emphasize WHY this meant so much to me as a kid but tldr lumineon was the last remaining pokemon left for me to get the dex entry for in sinnoh as a kid and it was a culmination of a lot of months of work and then i went on to use that lumineon in battles and yeah shoutout to lumineon

I would answer that this is what Conservative governments ALWAYS do and Rishi Sunak’s Tory administration is no different.  Jeremy Hunt is rumoured to be contemplating cutting welfare payments to poor and sick to fund the reduction of inheritance tax paid by the rich.

It’s reassuring to know that millionaire, posh-buy Hunt, –related to the Royal Family, Head of School at Charterhouse and then onto Oxford where David Cameron and Boris Johnson were his contemporaries – is keeping up the English tradition of the ruling class maintaining their wealth and riches at the expense of the poor.

Although rarely included in today’s Anglican services and hymn singing, this verse from ‘All Things Bright And Beautiful’ (which was sung in English schools in the 1950’s and 1960’s) says it all. Following the chorus

“All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small,, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all.”

we have this verse:

“The rich man in his castle, The poor man at his gate, God made them, high or lowly, And ordered their estate.”

Although this particular verse is largely omitted when sung today, its sentiment hasn’t. Our posh-boy Tory leaders still see their positions of power and wealth as “God given” and when sacrifice is needed to maintain their wealth and privilege it is the “poor man at his gate” who ALWAYS pays the price.

Does...does anyone in Gen Z remember when the internet didn't completely suck? When there were communities?

You didn't used to have a million apps. You had your internet browser and it took you everywhere you wanted to go.

There were browser extensions like StumbleUpon that would take you to anything people had saved based on interests you gave it: news articles, memoirs, blog posts about the most random things, Cracked articles when Cracked was a thriving comedy site, and College Humor the same way, before Facebook killed them and now you kind of just hope someone on social media is funny sometimes and maybe there's The Onion. TVTropes pages. Fanfiction. Random sites designed to play exactly one game. Entire websites designed to have one button that did one thing. Yahoo! Answers questions that were funny or informative. Wikipedia pages. Other wiki pages. Fan wikis that didn't live on Fandom.

And you could just. Surf The Web as it were and wander aimlessly through it. Google wasn't totally ads, and it wasn't the only functioning search site, either. Yahoo! had games, and there were plenty of other sites just. Full of flash games. That you could browse through. For free!

People made websites for their fanfiction and their original fiction. Every interest had a forum and probably had a community and you could go sign up and chat with people about it. And you could find those posts again, until the forum died, which it might not even do! People had blogs that weren't attached to sites like Tumblr or LiveJournal or Dreamwidth.

There were thriving communities just for book and fic recs.

You could go places and do things and it wasn't all siloed. You didn't always have to have an account to do things or read things. You might have to sit through some ads, but not as many as now, and the Algorithm didn't steer you away. Facebook was usable. There were sites like Gaia Online that had forums and flash games and avatar design and dress up and videos and there were like 20 different sites like Flight Rising that operated for different silos and interests with different worlds to explore.

When chat rooms weren't privated up in discord and you could sign on anonymously in IRC chats. When NaNoWriMo had its own official IRC chat room! Just on the website! Where you could talk to anyone! And nothing would be saved once you left!

When not everything was paywalled and Exclusive Content and even if it was, you were on 50 different sites a day anyway hanging out with different people doing different things and exploring.

When social media wasn't the main way people got news and not the only place to hang out and talk and you could learn from other people a thousand other ways, and not everything linked to a locked Patreon.

The internet has always had problems. But it didn't used to be so siloed and locked and competitive and difficult to hop from one place to another and people didn't spend all day on three different sites.

And it used to be so much more interesting.

I think the good used to outweigh the bad of the internet. I'm not sure it does. It turned from a place to explore and talk to a corporate dopamine slot machine designed to extract money.

okay I know it’s technically weeks away BUT valentine’s day has been in my mind and I’m curious how Adam and Belle celebrate 👁️ (did this holiday exist back then? I have no clue)

LOVELY okay so every valentine’s day since i’ve been writing for these two yahoos, i just generally assume they go all out for the day. adam’s love language is gift giving so whether it’s in canon or modern au, you know that guy is getting belle a million gifts and they’re going to fancy dining establishments and seeing a show and all that good stuff. but your question made me want to dig in and actually look into the history of valentine’s day, SO I DID THAT!!

as i suspected, it is super super old. the oldest story is in 270 AD, when the roman empire had been at war for some time. apparently the soldiers were tired of fighting and wanted to marry their sweethearts and settle down with families. but emperor claude ii was like uhhhmmm No. so he made marriage briefly illegal?? but there was a priest called valentine who was still secretly performing weddings, defying the law for love!!! but emperor claude ii found out and threw him in jail. BUT THEN valentine fell in love with the daughter of his prison guard!!! and supposedly, according to the legend, right before his execution, ON FEBRUARY 14th, he left a heart-shaped letter to the daughter and signed it “from your valentine.”

AND THAT IS SOOOOO ROMANTIC HELLO!!!!! defied the law AND died for love. A KING!!

valentine was declared a saint by pope gelase i in the 5th century, after the collapse of the roman empire.

the holiday didn’t become a thing until the middle ages, when the catholic church was trying to fight a pagan holiday for the roman god luperculus that was celebrated feb 13-15. the church was afraid of losing their power amidst europe so the pope made feb 14 st. valentine’s day to honor the guy who sacrificed his life for love.

there is ALSO a story specific to france, that in 1415, the duke of orléans was captured and taken prisoner in london and while he was there he was apparently writing love letters to his wife in france. and i guess there was one (or multiple?) specifically dated for valentine’s day, so it’s considered some of the first Valentine’s Day Letters™️ in france. because before that, in france, letters weren’t really exchanged on the day, it was more a social thing, like a singles mixer in the streets. single people go out and try to pair up. and anyone who is bitter can have a little bonfire and burn images of their exes. but that got out of hand quickly and the government banned that. hence the letter writing became more common.

and this is my own speculation but i would assume that gift giving only took place amongst the upper class at first, and then eventually the trend caught up in varying levels for everyone to the point that we’re at today! where a gift for your beloved on the day is quite common 💝

but anyway there’s your little history lesson!!!!!! was fun to flex my historian muscles thank you 🤓🤓🤓

to answer your question, basically, adam spoils the heck out of his wife and belle lets it happen because she’s as head over heels for her husband as he is for her. in canon they’re probably always in paris. they save their bigger trips for their anniversary and also they just travel a lot in general for king & queen reasons. paris is their home away from home ❤️ they probably stay for nearly a week, (this may vary depending on the ages of their kiddos, of course, they don’t like to leave their Babies for too long 🥺), go to a couple different shows, opera, theater, dance, etc. go for horseback rides, go to a ball (i’m debating if they put on a valentine’s day ball or if they attend one already happening. it’s super likely that adam wants to host it though because he loves hosting. But i could also just see a ball already taking place since it is a Known Holiday. but EITHER WAY THEY’RE DANCING!), and yeah just in general they’re being super in love and gross. i enjoy thinking about this day for them in modern au too, just because it’s a tad easier for my mind to picture, but yeah it’s definitely a holiday they love. they love a day dedicated to love ❤️

i. CHAPTER ONE; HER

L/N Y/N IS careless girl but she loved to help people around, she does not care if she's bleeding.

It happens when she was in first grade of primary, she come back home with a wide grin and proudly said to her parents "I saved a bird from being eaten by a cat!" Her parents are happy but they fussed about the scratches and blood all over her body.

It happens again the next day with a different story and it becomes a habit of her.

She remembered her dad coming to her room that night, patting her head with a soft smile "Y/n do you know what I admire about you the most?"

"What is it dad?" She asked curious with what is it that her dad admire her about.

"You're not scared with a single thing, you always want to help others. I admire that from you." His words made her smile, "But that doesn't mean you can get hurt, you have to watch yourself Y/n."

Now she's a highschool student with a smart brain but still being careless of getting hurt, things never change everytime she comes home with a scratch or blood oozing from her small wound her dad would laugh about it and treat her injury despite her mom yelling at her that she should be more careful.

Her mom is a nurse while her dad is a reporter.

"What do you think you're doing?" Inomata says crossing her arms from her assigned seat while her male classmates are putting a clear tapes on the door while chuckling.

"Oh we're pranking Yagi, when he walks in the tape will hit his face" he said laughing as he nudged his friend.

"That's a bit childish don't you think? Stop being loud we're trying to study here." Inomata remarked.

"Come on Inomata this class needs to be livelier, all we do is studying."

"Stop it! You might hurt Yagi-kun!" One of Inomata classmates said looking at the tapes.

"Yeah! Take it off!"

They starts to argued until someone running inside the class  "Yahoo good mornin─" Her sentence was cut when her face hits the clear tape.

The class except Inomata starts to laugh when Y/n looks at her classmates with the clear tapes still on her face which pulled her nose that her nostril looked big.

"Aw man it wasn't Yagi..." some guy mumbled.

"L/n sorry about that."

Y/n pulled the tapes off her face wincing slightly. Her face was red from pulling the tapes. "Ouch, hey Inomata whatcha studying?"

Inomata was confused she just said Ouch and asked her what she's studying.  "I'm studying biology," She answered the question which Y/n 'oh'd nodding and sit down next to her where she was assigned to seat.

"Good morning everyone," a soft voice spoken, it's the prince. Yagi Tomoya with his bestfriend that as well have a good looks despite that they can't see his full face but have seen his gorgeous eyes.

"Kyaa! Yagi-kun! Nezu-kun!"

"Yagi-kun can we study together?'

"Oh sure!"

"What no fair! I want to study with him too!"

While Yagi is being crowded with the his fans, Nezu immediately noticed there's the girl from yesterday talking casually with Inomata.

Everytime she moves Nezu would unconsciously watch her every move. Silently winced everytime she hit herself.

"L/n-chan come here" one of the girls called her, which she responded with a nod and starts to approach her fellow classmates, in process the table hits her hip.

"Ow" Y/n mumbled rubbing at the place where she was hit before going back to her cheerful look. "What's up?" She asked with a smile, as if that didn't happen.

"Are you okay?"

"Of course, that was nothing."

"Okay..."

"So what do you want?" Y/n asked.

"You like shoujo manga right?" She ask Y/n who gave her a nod. "Do you have Hibi Chouchou? I always want to read it and Sato-kun said you have a whole collection of mangas."

"Oh Hibi chouchou huh? Yeah I have them, do you want me to bring it to you after school tomorrow?"

"That fast? sure if it doesn't bother you."

"Alright, see you tomorrow. I gotta go before class starts" Y/n waves, avoiding the tables and chairs. When she reach to the door she sighs in relief for not getting hurt but however she should have avoided the door.

A loud thump was heard, Y/n had hit her chest to the door.

A second later Y/n pained groan echoed through the class.

School is over, Y/n doesn't have a club yet she's still thinking about. She changed clubs every year, she wants try every club she could try.

The swimming club, the baking club, the female soccer club, the female volleyball club, the kendo club, the drama club which she aced it, the karate club, and the babysitters club. The last time she joined the babysitters club she enjoyed playing with everyone and of course she got hurt all the time.

When she quits from the club everyone was sad about it but she promised to visit regularly.

Anyway today is her turn for class duty with other students of course.

"L/n can you come with me to throw the trash out?" A girl asked.

"Sure!" She puts the board eraser down and help her classmate with the trash.

"When's the field trip?' Y/n asked throwing the trash, putting the bin behind her.

"I don't know, are we going to skiing? Or are we going to the beach?"

"I can't wait till that time comes!" Y/n stretch her arms up as she walks, just as she turned around she ran into the bin making her trip with the bin under her.

"Oh good job Y/n" Y/n said to herself before standing up again. "You can wash your hands first, I'll deal with this." Y/n told her patting the bin.

"Are you sure?" Y/n nods shooing her away with her hand. "Alright, see you tomorrow!"

Y/n sighs and starts to drag the trash bin to her class while whittling her favourite ghibli movie song, Ponyo on the cliff. She perks up when her eyes catch the sight of the famous second handsome boy of the school. Nezu Chuukichi.

"Oh Nezu-kun, Nezu-kun!" She called in a sing-song voice.

"L/n-san," Chuukichi said.

"Oh so you remember me?" Y/n ask him, she pointed to herself.

"Yes, you are my classmates after all." Chuukichi replied.

"Well I better go and put this back to our class, see ya!" Y/n walks away.

"L/n-san, you should watch where you're going." Y/n looks back only to see Chuukichi already walking away from her.

"It's not like I want to get hurt," Y/n grin.

it's supposed to have 6 endings but there are now effectively only 4 because of a game breaking glitch that i can't fix bc i don't have access to the project file anymore. cool 👍

walkthrough:

tammie (girl on the couch) will ask you to do what she says. saying yes will get you the Bathroom Endings later on (calling them that for reasons you will see later), while saying no will get you endings 2, 3, and another 2 because i apparently forgot i already had an ending 2

now for the Only Puzzle

go to the kitchen (door on the left) and interact (Z, for those unfamiliar w rpgmaker) with the third cabinet from the left. you'll get some gloves. this is a very obvious location for an item to be that won't cause confusion at all

you can also grab the knife here (on top of the second cabinet from the left, it's the little black and white thing). whether you have it in your inventory or not will effect the ending you get

go to the bathroom (top room from the initial area) and go to the toilet. interact with it, say yes to the prompt and you will get a. flower??? why did past me do this why is this the solution

(btw if you interact with the toilet without the gloves you get the prompt to grab the flowers but you can't because Toilet Gross)

go back to the kitchen and interact with the flower on the table. you'll get a prompt to add the flower you just got. say yes and a note will come from. somewhere

at this point you can read it from your items (for those uninitiated with rpgmaker games, press ESC, select Items, hit Z, select Items again, hit Z again, select the Note, press Z one final time) but you don't really need to

don't ask me what the message in it means because i have no idea

i recommend saving here if you said no at the beginning because whether you have the knife or not effects the ending. if you picked it up already you can put it back by interacting with the counter you got it from (second from the left)

go to the initial area, show tammie (girl on the couch) the note you got. she'll get mad and shove you into the bathroom. interact with her and the ending shall begin !!!

if you answered yes to the initial question you'll be stuck in there unable to move forever because there's a glitch here and i can't fix it anymore yippee yahoo

if you said no at the beginning, you get Actual Endings !!

if you don't have the knife, you'll get ending 2.

if you have the knife and select "don't", you'll get ending 3.

if you select "stab her", there's an extra step:

interact with her body and you'll get a key to the front door. go open it and you'll get ending...2. apparently i forgot i already had an ending 2 lmao

GX Finalized-Subs!81 (WIP) - Sleepless in Yamanote

With the fixes and stuff I’ve finished up for 80, I’ve now started working on stuff for episode 81 before I work on revising both episodes’ scripts.  As part of that, I’m hitting the one to-do list item I flagged for myself back in 2020 and translating the 2chan-like thread that Shou/Judai and Kanda are looking at (Shou and Judai through Shou’s PDA in images 1 and 2, Kanda through his laptop on images 3-6).

Keeping in mind that this was a 2006-era thread (and thinking back to my Pojo/Janime days lol), I brushed up a bit on Japanese emoticons to make sure I conveyed those correctly--though I am still a little bit confused with the  “('Ａ`)ｳﾞｪﾉｱ” one; the Japanese Yahoo! Answers page or two and other sites I looked at to find more on its meaning mentioned it’s like a “cry that you can’t get out” so I figured the “QQ” one would work, but if there’s another equivalent someone might know about, lemme know lol.  “OTL” I’d known about for a while and I figure it’s a pretty decipherable one, and the “ ｷﾀ━━━━(ﾟ∀ﾟ)━━━━!!!!!” one (”there he is!!”) seemed to note a bit of sly excitement (kind of like a 😏 smirking, was my read; I thought about “\o/” but thought the smirk would work better since the following line has “((((((((;ﾟДﾟ))))))))ｶﾞｸｶﾞｸﾌﾞﾙﾌﾞﾙ” for a trembling-fear/scared reaction that I figured “D8″ would work well for, but again, lemme know if that could be better conveyed).  Also used Verdana for the font since forums around then did love Verdana, and I chose not to keep “Name” and “Timestamp” next to the names and timestamps to save on some redundancy.

Also worth mentioning, as I looked into this, that this whole asking-for-love-advice-online bit, as well as the “('Ａ`)ｳﾞｪﾉｱ” emoticon, seems to be referencing the Densha Otoko/Train Man story, where a nerdy guy/otaku on a train intervenes as women were being harassed, he goes on to date one of them, and it’s catalogued and followed up on through 2ch; the woman he dates also goes on to send him luxurious gifts, including goods from a “Benoist” British tea brand sold in Japan (the kana next to that emoticon sound out “benoa”).  This does explain why Kanda later goes up to Judai and Asuka and acts like Judai was accosting her (after Asuka poured water on him and the others), lol.  The Yamanote in Kanda’s username is also referencing the Yamanote Train Line, possibly also referencing the Densha Otoko story (his username is “yamanote-sen meguri,” which I translated here as “touring-the-yamanote-line”). (Also, the episode aired on 4/9, but these were posted on 4/18... interesting.)

Now, for the first shot, I’ll need to work it into the footage and add a little screen flickering (which I did before with this from my 5D’s “Dub-Uncut” project, so it shouldn’t be too hard), while for the second, it’s a quick zooming-out redo.  For that third shot it’s in (which I brightened by adding an Overlay-blended layer over the resized screen translation), I’ll have to mask Kanda back on top of the resized translation while he types his response to Judai, but also shouldn’t be too hard.  I’ll post an update once I do, lol.
