"To the Moon and Back" is a song by Australian pop duo Savage Garden. It was released in Australia on 4 November 1996 as the second single from their self-titled 1997 album, and was the follow-up to their hit "I Want You" (aka the chic-a-cherry cola song). It won the 1997 ARIA Music Award for Song of the Year, and became the band's first number-one single in their native country.
Their follow-up single "Truly Madly Deeply" became an international hit, reaching number one on several music charts. In the wake of such success, the band decided "To the Moon and Back" had greater potential to become a hit than its first chartings had borne out, and so instead of mining a fourth single from the album as they had for the Australian market, they decided to mix a shorter edit of "To the Moon and Back" and re-release it internationally in 1998. This time the song peaked at number 24 in the US. In the UK, the single debuted at number three, becoming Savage Garden's biggest hit in the country. This prompted the re-release of their debut single, remixed as "I Want You '98".
"To the Moon and Back" received a total of 70,6% yes votes! 💖
Savage Garden's singer Darren Hayes has been featured in the polls before with the title track from his debut solo album Spin (poll #3), but didn't get enough yes votes and is currently the lowest charted song on this poll blog with 30%. :'(

Welcome to the new millennium. A good year for country, ballads, and country ballads. Alternative rock is starting to appear more in the pop charts, and the genre will soon come to define the sound of rock for this decade (along with post-grunge, which will come later). Latin pop and rock is also growing in popularity, with artists like Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and the mainstream resurgence of Carlos Santana. This sound would also have a lot of influence over pop and R&B songs by non-Latin artists. Not coincidentally, this is also the year the Latin Grammy Awards was created. These genres do have there distinct sounds and characteristics, but a lot of American music publications at the time used the labels to describe "any pop or rock song in Spanish". I don't think I could do the nuances of this topic justice, so for more of that I'd recommend reading Rock the Nation: Latin/o Identities and the Latin Rock Diaspora by Roberto Avant-Mier.
2000 is also notable for being the year Metallica sued Napster. This suit would later be followed by A&M Records, Inc. v. Napster, Inc., in which Napster was sued by A&M Records and 18 record companies and members of the Recording Industry Association of America. But for most of the year, Metallica (specifically the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich) was the prominent example of artists fighting against music piracy. This is important to bring up, because issues surrounding the cost of music will continue to shape the record industry for the following decades. But more importantly, it gives me an excuse to share this anti-Napster PSA Metallica made for MTV. You're welcome.
Could you please explain the savage garden book hint for me?
I haven't read all of tvc, so it's lost on me. I do like the show in the first two minutes said loustat and devil's minion rights. That's what I want! 🥰
Lestat calls the world and its contents and events the Savage Garden. (Yes, the band has its name from the VC.)
An expression for the beauty and horrors it contains, where all is (more or less) ruled by the aesthetic.
(And so all the kudos to the set design and the props placed^^, to hint at said world right behind Daniel, something he has already read visited, but left behind)
And yes - I also do think that the show said exactly that, in the first minutes ;)

I listened to the Punch Up the Jam episode covering “I Want You” by Savage Garden (absolute chaos in the best way! Chris and Miel Bredouw were so good as co-hosts) and I was pleasantly surprised to hear how nicely it mixes with “My Boba Manifesto” on rave.dj.
The RNG rolls really loved Part 6 this go around. Played around with font styling on these ones, so probably will continue to do so going forward. Artwork done with markers and dips pens.
Darren was the singer of the band Savage Garden (with the massive hit "Truly Madly Deeply") and Spin was his first solo album. The song was co-written and produced by Walter Afanasieff who also produced Savage Garden's Affirmation album, in case you notice the similarities between the two title tracks. The majority of tumblr voters didn't seem to like this one, though. :'(
