Lion (2016, Garth Davis)
20/11/2023
Lion is a 2016 film directed by Garth Davis.
Based on the memoir A Long Way Home, the film tells the true story of Saroo Brierley who is played by Dev Patel. The cast also includes Rooney Mara, David Wenham and Nicole Kidman. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, taking 2nd place in the Audience Award.
Khandwa, central India, 1986 - Saroo, five years old, second son of a very poor family, who survives with his older brother Guddu by collecting waste metals, asks the other to be able to work at night in a station near their home village. In search of his brother, the child mistakenly boards a deserted train that leaves and does not stop, taking him to Calcutta, about 1600 kilometers away.
Lost in the chaotic metropolis, not speaking the local Bengali language, Saroo survives on the streets. Hosted by people of ill repute, he manages to escape, only to be noticed by a young employee who speaks his Hindi language and who takes him to a police station so that, by publishing his photo in the newspapers, someone can recognize him. Saroo leaves for Hobart in Tasmania, where he grows up and becomes an adult.
At the age of 27, Saroo is a university student in Melbourne, with numerous Indian friends and loved ones, but he has not forgotten his roots and his family, for which he feels a sense of guilt due to his disappearance. At his girlfriend's insistence, the young man begins researching through Google Earth, desperately searching for his home village based on his fading memories, until he recognizes from a satellite image what appears to be the starting station.
Filming began in January 2015 in Calcutta, India, and continued in mid-April, in Australia, in the cities of Melbourne and Hobart.
The film had its world premiere on 10 September 2016 at the Toronto International Film Festival and subsequently at the London Film Festival and the Rome Film Festival. It was released in US cinemas on 25 November 2016 by The Weinstein Company, while distribution began in Australia on 19 January 2017, and in Italy it was released on 22 December 2016.
For the film Sia composed the song Never Give Up, released as a promotional single.
The score was composed by Dustin O'Happellon and Hauschka and was nominated for Best Original Score at the 2017 Oscars.

Book Review: Lion: A Long Way Home by: Saroo Brierley
I feel strongly that from my being a little lost boy with no family to becoming a man with two, everything was meant to happen just the way it happened. And I am profoundly humbled by that thought. Lion: A Long Way Home by: Saroo Brierley Initial Thoughts: It is a rare occurrence when my parents and I can sit down and watch a movie together that we all enjoy. On occasion, we’ll watch a movie…

St Patrick's Day Preference
Tumblr media
A/N: I do know I have readers from all across the world, so if you're not up on what Saint Patrick's Day is, do click here!
Anwar Kharral: I feel like Anwar's a little but over it. He's gotten into too many scrapes during St. Paddy's day when he and Maxxie move to London. He's older now, more tame, this doesn't mean he won't be wearing green! You won't catch him slipping!
Sonny Kapoor: I feel like he'll make a theme night at the hotel. The Irish guests are more than happy to listen to a power point about St. Patrick and absolutely house some baked potatoes, and are in bed by 9. I feel like Sonny is very popular with the Irish residents at the hotel, and he uses the holiday to pay the affection back.
Neal Sampat: Neal's not really a fan. In his defense, it's New York, and the two of you know it's different here. You guys do last minute grocery runs two days before and make it a point to hole up and not go anywhere on the day. God forbid you do, it's like doing a marathon, some kind of gauntlet. No ma'am, don't call, you guys are at the apartment.
Deon Wilson: He's baby! I feel like maybe the two of you go out early, like at 4-5, have a drink, and get overstimulated and go home (valid). Maybe you guys watch the 2001 Disney Channel Classic "Luck of the Irish" before going to bed.
Sheru “Saroo” Brierley: Saroo likes going out and drinking with his friends! You do too! The both of you aren't exactly marathon-holiday-enjoyers or bar-hoppers (at least not anymore), but if your friend group brings the energy, you guys are there! No green-colored drinks though.
Jay Menha: No ma'am. He's at home. He's in bed by 8. He's got his earplugs in. People celebrating the day are too loud and too touchy, he's not doing that. If he's called in to work a paramedic shift, he'll do it, but he'll be grumpy the whole time!
David Copperfield: In principle, David is a fan of the day. He loves seeing how happy people get to celebrate Ireland and being Irish! This being said, last time he actually went out, he started his evening *in* London, and somehow ended up in Birmingham deli where he came to 48 hours later. He's not gonna do that again.
Joshua Madika: Girl, I feel like he's a little too domestic for this holiday. When he was single and rebounding, maybe, but now his knees hurt, and he's literally got too much money to go out and party with the people! Chances are he's gonna book you both a spa day or something, and ignore it in general.
Sir Gawain: This may sound harsh, but I don't think he know Ireland is a real place. He'll drink, party, the two of you will have a great night out, but he's 100% certain Ireland is made up. He has been there multiple times.
Dr. Chatterjee: I feel like he's a bit cranky on the holiday. He's a doctor first and foremost, so he's really spent too many evenings in the ER pumping stomachs overfilled with green beer. He thinks the history behind it is neat, but he's overall not a big fan.

#A LONG WAY HOME BRIERLEY FULL#
He describes seeing the Hindi film Salaam Bombay: However, unwanted memories could arrive unbidden, sometimes reconnecting with stories from India awakened his childhood trauma. The childless (through their own choice) couple that adopted him, were open and inclusive regarding his culture, furnishing his bedroom with a large map of India and items reminiscent of his country of birth, they joined an association connecting Indian families to their culture. Nighttime brought an element of danger, and even in the day while having fun with other children in the river, danger was never far away, he would be rescued a couple of times that might have been life-threatening, had not well intended strangers come to his aid. It’s sad because he was a boy who became lost from his family in a large country, he had difficulty pronouncing the name of the town he came from (and even his own name) and in the city he arrived in Calcutta (Kolkata), he spent weeks riding trains hoping one of them might take him back. It’s a bittersweet story with a thrilling beginning as he falls asleep in the wrong place at the wrong time and his life is hurtled, like a rocket capsule, into another hemisphere, with a few obstacles to overcome on the way.
#A LONG WAY HOME BRIERLEY FULL#
In the meantime he would spend those 25 years in a middle class Australian family in Hobart, Tasmania – far from his culture and birth family, learning another language, getting an education and developing a way of life that would benefit them all by the time his story comes full circle. Like befriending the teenage boy he trusted and went home with, who would be the first person to make an intervention on his behalf that would lead him to 25 years of safety, before he could find his way back home and be reunited with his family again. The book only confirms how incredible and moving his story is, on top of the emotion it provokes, was the amazement at how many situations 5-year-old Saroo got into that he was miraculously saved from, often by his own well-honed instinct, other times sheer luck, and occasionally, surely, divine intervention. I saw the film when it was on at the cinema about a year ago and like everyone who has seen it, I thought it was extremely moving. If you don’t know the story, it’s about a 5-year-old boy who is out with his teenage brother, who has told him to wait for him at a quiet train station near their home, and feeling tired, he climbs into an empty carriage, falls asleep and when he awakes, it is moving, the carriage locked and he will be transported, far, far from his home, which he won’t see for another 25 years.

It's a soft-ish dom moment with Saroo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fucked out because of him. He lives to make you cum until you cry that can’t anymore. Saroo loves marking you in every way he can. Saroo loves making you his.
You live for the days where he can’t stop filling you up. You love how his cum feels inside of you. You love feeling him leaking out of you in the afterglow. He loves to watch.
Sometimes fucking him feels like what your made for.
Today's one of those days.
Your eyes are round in shock, “S-Sar-” And for a moment, you’ve lost control. He looks at you evenly as he takes one of your breasts and puts it into his mouth. He hums lightly as he bites at the sensitive flesh, and swirls his tongue around your hardened nipples. Your tender already, and he’ll be taking full advantage. He plays with you, stealing your breath.
Saroo smacks your rear to get you started, and you do.
He alternates his attention between each of your breasts, biting, sucking, licking, and pulling at you however he pleased. If there was any pain, he didn’t act like he cared. Your pace kept stalling because his hands working fiercely at your clit, once more, pinching and playing however he wanted.
One finger works it’s way down to your abused pussy, stretching you wider than you were before. Wider than you’d ever been, actually.
It’s too much.
You lose your composure as you clench down around him. You sound and feel more like an animal, as your bones turn to gelatin. You involuntarily fall forward, curling around him.
He lets out a satisfied sigh, taking his newly wet finger, and sucking it dry.
Saroo’s hands go to your hips in an attempt to move you off, but you slap them away. Two dark eyes blink at you, bewildered expression breaking his composure.
“No, now you.” You stumble over your words,  You kiss the corner of his mouth, and he closes his eyes at the contact. Saroo raises a hand up to the side of your head, supporting your weakened neck.
“Aren’t you tired?” He asks low, sincere.
“No!” You exclaim a little too loudly. It was a lie. He had exhausted you. He gives you a look.
“Really?” He asks again, pressing a hand to your clit, making you release a desperate, filthy noise. Saroo starts salivating.
“Alright yes... but I want your cum.” You don’t care how needy you sound. You rock your hips back onto him for emphasis. He needs to cum, and since you’re both here, it should be in you. You deserve it.
“Want you to fill me up.” You declare, raising two hands to play with your bruised breasts. You arch your back for the sake of a show. His eyes flash, and your certain he’s going to take the bait.
You slowly reach and arm down between your legs. Your slow enough for him to grab your wrist, and pull you forward.
“You’re sure?” His hands are already playing with your chest, pinching and tugging harsher than he was before.
“Yes.” You whisper.
And that’s good enough.
Saroo doesn’t waste anymore time. He takes a harsh grip on your hips, using your boneless form to get off. It’s perfect, for both of you.
You look so lovely above him, breasts bouncing, tears leaking out of your eyes from the delicious overstimulation. Your sensitive after your orgasm, leading to the lovely fact that you weren’t quite sure how fast he was fucking into you.
It didn’t really matter though, did it?
You barely know what year it is. You only know what his cock feels like grinding in the deepest parts of you.
You let out a squeak as he twitches and releases inside of you. His liquid heat, the only feeling in the world you can’t go without. The best part being, he knows how much you love his cum. He’s aware that at any given moment, you’d rather be milking his cock.
It’s perfect.
Your eyes roll back in your head as you bare down around him again. Saroo musters up a few good thrusts to make sure you took as much of him as possible.
You’ve been such a good girl, you deserve it.
You lean into him, slick with sweat, and link your arms around his neck, just breathing together.
It’s either a minute or an hour before either of you understand what the hell to do.
And maybe that's okay.
