I've read a short story that reminded me of something that happened to me.
It reminded me of the time i saw a girl who actually matched my type, at least her looks. I don't really care about looks, because nowadays you can even buy a new face, and it also changes a lot with the years, but i always had this face on my mind that i thought would call my attention.
Anyways, to me she was really cute and she talked to me, because she needed some help with taking a bus and she didn't know which one was the right one. Even though my brain was like "OMG, she is so cute!" I did my best to help her.
After that day, i noticed that she would go to the same bus stop almost everyday, at the same time i did, maybe to college just like me.
She was indeed queer, i saw the bi flag on her bag, but i wasn't brave enough to talk to her. I could've tried to at least be friends.
One day she started to go there with another girl "Maybe a friend" i thought. More or less one week later, they were holding hands hugging each other, they received some stares from homophobes, but they didn't care.
I was happy, because they were happy together and made the homophobics mad. But it also made me think "What if i had talked with her? Would the one holding her hand be me?"
After that i started to reflect on my feelings and came to the conclusion that it was better that way. They didn't feel the need to hide who they are, they were happy with each other. If i was the one with her, we wouldn't be able to hold each other's hands in public, hug, be a real couple.
Maybe i didn't talk with her, because i wasn't ready for the possible outcomes. We all have our own pace.

I THINK WE COULD DO IT IF WE TRIED: YMIR X FEMALE READER
Setting: 1950s AU
The pen scratching on your diary served as white noise in your otherwise quiet room.
You were writing about her...again! Ymir had plagued your thoughts ever since she asked you to be her girlfriend around 5 months ago.
You were so madly in love with the taller girl it wasn’t even funny anymore. All you wanted to do was graduate from your stupid high school and marry her, but alas, that could never be.
People frowned upon same sex couples, and your religious parents would disown you if they found out about the nature of your feelings for your so called “best friend”. You sometimes zoned out in social situations, thinking about just how unfair it was for gay couples in this damned world. You thought about just how judgemental and toxic society was.
A sharp knock on your window snapped you out of your thoughts. You curiously turned your head to the direction of the sudden noise, and saw a smirking freckled teen girl hanging onto your window sill for dear life! Your eyes widened as you rushed to the window and opened it to let a panting, heavily breathing Ymir enter. She plopped to her feet and fixed her circle skirt before winking at you, to which you rolled your eyes. But Ymir was as perceptive as ever, and she noticed your little smile.
“Hey, darling”, she said, still smirking.
“Ymir! One of these days you’ll drop dead! I told you not to climb my window, it's dangerous!”, you scolded her.
“ But I didn’t drop dead, dear”
“Would it kill you to use the front door”
“ Lacks my signature dramatic flair”
“Ugh”, you playfully groaned.
Ymir stretched her arms and jumped on your bed. She callously grabbed a pillow, and beckoned you to join her. You wiggled into a comfortable position beside her, and the two of you just stared at the ceiling, your pinkies locked. Even the silence was enjoyable with her. You wondered how you got so lucky.
“ So, 2 months till graduation”, Ymir cuts the silence. You knew exactly what went through her mind, and it dampened the good mood you were in previously.
“It’s so unfair, Ymir! Reiner’s engaged to Historia, and Hitch’s engaged to Marlowe. Almost everyone is getting married! Mum’s been up my ass about who I want to marry, and she’s been eyeing that jackass Eren Yeager”
“ No way in hell are you to spend the rest of your life with a man!”
“I don’t want to, Ymir, but people like us have been doomed to meet a tragic end since birth”
“ Let’s run away”
“ Do you have a better idea?”
That shut you up real quick. You didn’t want to elope, and you didn’t want to live without the woman you love either. You were torn apart!
“There’s still 2 months to go, Y/N, and we’re still young”, Ymir consoled you. You nodded your head and snuggled closer to her lean body.
“ Till the world becomes a better, more accepting place, we have to keep what we really are a secret. So, wanna watch that new Marilyn Monroe film?”, you asked her.
“ She’s hot. I don’t see why not”, Ymir deadpanned.
That earned her a giggle from you. God, she loved hearing you laugh!
Ymir was dead set on making you her wife, and everyone in Paradis high school knew that whatever the feisty Ymir Fritz set her mind to, she got done!
