More and more I wish Earthsea had got the adaptation it deserved. An adaptation that loved and valued the incredible power of these books. An adaptation that captured the heart of Earthsea, it's gentle, stern atmosphere, it's passion and it's fire. And most importantly, an adaptation NOT JUST FULL OF WHITE PEOPLE. It's insulting.

Nowadays, fantasy adaptations are so key to bringing a fanbase and attention to older works. So this is my plea - read them! They're such incredible works of fiction, with POC mains and queer characters. If you're a fan of LOTR or WOT this is your jam. If you like Brandon Sanderson or James Islington, give it a go.

If they've passed you by, or you've never got round to reading them, this is your sign.

Okay I know the Sanderson Wired article is old news but I can't stop thinking about it and that like. The "Big Twist" thing at the end. The reveal, the whole:

"Sanderson makes the connection between his work and the work of his Heavenly Father explicit. This is when he speaks the seven words of truth, the only ones I’m certain he has never said, in quite this way, ever before: “As I build books,” Sanderson says, as I sit there, for once entirely enraptured, “God builds people.” ... If Sanderson is a writer, that is all he is doing. He is living his fantasy of godhead on Earth."

Is literally just FIRST DAY stuff at any creative class at BYU. I don't know what this author thought they were discovering. This isn't just Sanderson. This is how Mormons talk about art. Creation is sacred, and all art -- painting, poetry, acting, fiction -- is exercising the gift of creation that we inherited as children of God.

I don't know, the writer of this article just had such a weird approach to Sanderson the whole time (and straight up insulted him multiple times?) but what was most frustrating about it was that, as a theatre major with a creative writing minor at BYU, this is stuff I heard everyday. It's not that weird.

Question for Sanderson/Cosmere fans:

Is the big reveal of Mistborn Era 2 the identity of Thaidakar, or smth else?

Bc I already had his identity spoiled for me and might just read Secret History first if that's the BIG THING that gets revealed in Era 2, but if it's not, I want to read Era 2 first and then go back and fill in the blanks w Secret History.

If you can answer this in vague non-spoilery terms, I'd appreciate it bc even though I'm pretty sure I know his true identity, I still have no idea how in the world it's possible.
