"Angsty anxiety medication fic" this, "Virgil is dying" that, no. I want to see an Anxiety Medication fanfic where Virgil spends the entire time high as a kite and living his best life. Like 3 edibles, Thomas from Accepting Anxiety Part 1 levels of not giving a fuck, causing chaos and then taking a 12 hour nap until Thomas' body gets used to the meds.

House of oddities
Chapter 1
Ao3
Patton, a very optimistic borrower, traveled over a day’s journey that led him to this house. It was pretty far from other ones. It seemed normal enough, even if his new human was very loud, and liked to talk to themself. He didn’t mind. There was more than enough supplies here. Besides, he wasn’t too excited at the idea of making another long journey.
Two local ghosts start keeping a secret from their living friend.
Appearance wise, ghosts take on features that represent how they died. Janus died by a snake bite, and has snake scales over the side of the bite. Virgil, though I’m not telling you his cause of death just yet, has a whispy tail instead of legs.
I hope you enjoy this !!
Something was going on with his human, Patton noted. His human seemed more excited than usual, which normally would make Patton happy. However, as this was a new human, he wasn’t too sure what to expect.
Even the most optimistic borrower would be wary. It could be anything, from a vacation (bad for borrowers as it meant heavy rationing) or a ‘pay rise’ (great- human got more things that could be borrowed).
Of course, those weren’t the only options. As much as Patton loved the idea of pets, he knew that he would have to move if his human had gotten one. Well, depending on the pet. Dogs and cats, as cute as they were, were vicious creatures when faced with a borrower. That could also be an option.
He didn’t want to move only two weeks after finding the perfect walls. He sincerely hoped that whatever had caused his human to be so happy was something good.
He watched his human pace around giddily, like they had just won a giant prize. Perhaps they had. He couldn’t help but smile, despite his hesitation as to what could cause this infectious mood.
His human talked to themself a lot. Patton was sure he’d hear about the source of excitement eventually
He waited for his human to go to sleep before he gathered food supplies. It was routine borrowing for him, but he couldn’t help feeling uneasy about something. The human was still sleeping, he could tell that much, so he didn’t know what was causing this unease
He had been feeling similarly since he’d moved in. It was a different kind of unease than when he was at his last house. That unease was feeling like he was going to be seen, this felt like being watched. Like any borrower would feel, Patton felt very off about this whole thing.
He had checked about a thousand times that there were no cameras, before he had ever even left the walls. He should never have been feeling eyes on him.
He shivered. He didn’t know whether it was the fact that he could still feel someone watching him, or the coldness that seemed to radiate from different parts of the house.
He put all his food in his bag, and started running towards his entrance. This house made him feel more exposed than other houses did. He didn’t understand.
His human was still sleeping, he checked after putting away his supplies. He chalked up this unease to the fact that this was still a new house.
There was nothing wrong. He smiled. He sometimes felt the eyes on him when he was in his home in the walls, which was how he knew he was imagining things. There was only him in the walls. There was nothing else.
No sign of any other life in there, not even a single web (thank whatever was out there that was looking out for him) or rats nests anywhere in the walls. The only living things in the house were him, and his human, and occasionally his human’s friends.
They were loud. Patton didn’t like loud noises, but he liked seeing people happy. He organised his supplies and made sure his nest had enough fabrics. Winter was closing in, he would need more.
The fabric was in his human’s bedroom. They were unlikely to wake up whilst he was borrowing. He quickly grabbed the scraps he needed and ran back to his home.
He was tired. He had borrowed a lot today; all that climbing was tiring. He wrapped up as warmly as he could and closed his eyes. The walls were cold, but he was used to it.
If he felt eyes on him as he fell asleep, he ignored them. He woke up to the sound of his human talking. His human was loud. He took a look at the clock outside the wall.
He’d only been sleeping for a few hours, which was probably why he felt so tired. He yawned, but he knew his human would keep being loud, so he wouldn’t be able to sleep. He didn’t mind. His human would go to work, and then Patton would have the quiet, empty house to himself.
He wished there was another borrower nearby. Maybe he wouldn’t be so tired if he could split responsibility between him and a friend. Maybe he’d be less likely to watch the human so constantly.
He took to wandering whilst he waited for his human to leave. Having been a borrower since birth, he was well aware of the challenges and limitations of his life.
He just wished he could live somewhere where he could control the heating and where he could talk to people. He was always optimistic, however.
He’d probably find enough fabric to make himself a warmer outfit and help make his nest a little warmer.
His human had a ton of scrap fabrics lying around
His human was talking to themself. They always acted as though there was someone else there, even when there wasn’t.
This wasn’t the only human who he’d seen do the same. Humans loved giving into their imaginations and talking to themselves. Patton had the urge sometimes, but there was obviously the chance of being discovered if he gave in to the impulse.
He didn’t dwell on the human’s actions, and just focused on keeping himself busy with walking to prevent himself from crying. He was so tired. His human was getting ready to leave. He walked back home.
The sound of a door made it known that he was able to sleep again now, even though the eyes on him came back as he got back home. He wrapped up as best as he could and settled back in his nest.
He smiled, though he felt watched.
He fell asleep for another few hours.
Virgil was used to being bored; he was a ghost, there wasn’t much opportunity for him to talk to anyone except the one other ghost of the house, Janus, but they weren’t on the best terms with each other. Not for the past year, anyway.
The past few months had introduced two new living people into his home; Roman, who for some inexplicable reason could see him and Janus, and the newest addition to the house; the tiny person.
They lived in the walls, and scavenged for food or supplies. Virgil watched them a lot. The things they did were dangerous, what would’ve been a mild fall for Virgil would be a fall from tens of feet high for them, and still they climbed it close to daily.
Virgil had never seen anyone like them before. He could tell that they were jumpy, and they didn’t like the idea of people knowing they existed. Virgil never mentioned their existence to the living of the house.
He knew that Janus knew they were there as well. He’d caught Janus watching them more than a few times, but, with as skilled as Virgil and Janus were at avoiding each other, one of them would quickly leave the room to go back to their own.
Perhaps a little bit of hissing between them as the other left, but that was private business. Roman had since stopped trying to make them friends.
Virgil floated around the house, waiting for Roman to wake up. The little guy was sleeping.
Virgil couldn’t feel the cold, but he noticed the shivering and the extra fabric the little guy had been taking. He needed to convince Roman to turn the heating up. Someone that small was bound the feel the cold a lot more than someone human-sized.
Virgil heard when Roman woke up, because, what seemed like immediately, he heard Janus talking to him.
He scowled. Janus just had to ruin everything, didn’t he? He crossed his arms. Did they have to be so loud? He checked on the tiny scavenger
They were sat up, rubbing their eyes with their clearly makeshift glasses still next to their little nest. He frowned, face still through the wall.
Poor thing. Everything must be louder to them. Virgil took his head out of the wall tunnels and started to wait for Janus and Roman to stop talking, so he could talk about his (undoubtedly more important) problem to the person who could help.
Janus talked to Roman the entire time, until the human had left the house. Virgil’s scowl deepened.
He flew over to Janus
“What if I had wanted to talk to him?”
“I’d have no way of knowing that, dearest friend, because you don’t ever talk to me,” he said, scales shifting with Janus’s grin
“Well, my thing was important, and you’ve ruined it,” he hissed out, starting to float away
“Aw, important, was it? Needed another song added to the playlist he made for you? Or, perhaps your little nightlights ran out of battery?” Janus’s mocking voice echoed in his ears, and hell if he wasn’t able to push all of Virgil’s buttons. He wanted to slap that mocking pout straight off of his face
“First of all, they’re fairy lights, not nightlights, but I suppose that, being the baby you are, you’ve probably only ever heard of a nightlight. Second, my thing was actually important. I needed to convince Roman to turn the heating up,”
Janus raised his eyebrow
“Oh, my. I didn’t know that you had suddenly developed an aversion to the cold, that, might I remind you, you can’t feel ,”
“It’s not for me, you-” he took a deep breath that was entirely useless, “It’s for the little guy in the walls and, not that I expect you to care, considering you care for nothing but yourself, but they’ve been shivering non stop lately,”
Janus’s face had a brief moment where the mask fell, before coming back, and he looked down at his nails, which were covered by his gloves
“It’s too bad that you’d never be able to convince Roman. You wouldn’t be able to convince someone that ghosts were real, even if they were looking right at you,”
Virgil glared, clenching his fist
“Well, you do it then, if you’re so good at being convincing,” he snarled out, only for Janus to smile
“Gladly, thank you kindly for the offer,”
Virgil left with clenched fists and the thought that if he could, he’d’ve slammed the door shut.
He hated Janus so bad, he might as well have been in Hell rather than his house.
He floated down to the basement, his room, the only room in the house that Janus could not follow. Janus had never seen the basement as part of the house, and therefore when he died, he was restricted from it.
When Virgil had lived there, he’d chosen the basement to be his bedroom, so, when he died, he was able to go through there and the rest of the house.
Virgil floated above his bed and listened to the playlist that was constantly on loop in his room. He would actually need more songs on it, but he would never admit that in front of Janus.
He scowled, thinking about the snake of a ghost that occupied the upper house. Virgil wished he could kill him a second time.
It was hours later that Roman got home, and once again Janus whisked him away in conversation before Virgil could even greet him
Luckily, however, Janus seemed to be proposing that the heating be turned up. Virgil admitted reluctantly that Janus’ ability to convince people of things was impressive, no matter how much he hated it.
He left his room once he heard Janus and Roman finish their conversation
“Do you have to talk to him so much?” He asked, a sneer on his face
Roman didn’t even look at him before responding
“We’ve gone through this, Virgil. I am friends with both you and Janus. I can’t just not have conversations with one of you to please the other”
Virgil crossed his arms
“Alright, fine. How was your rehearsal?”
Roman went into a long rant about how they’d obviously chosen the lead correctly, as it was him, but that one of his cast mates had been making snide remarks all day, which obviously couldn’t happen
“Alright, I get it, you’re dramatic,” he rolled his eyes
Roman turned to stare at him
“And you’re not? Last week you told me you were going to stay in the basement forever so you would never have to see Janus again!”
Virgil looked away and muttered that he was not being dramatic and never having to see Janus again was the kind of happiness that required no extra dramatics.
“Yeah, okay, so why did you come back up, if you weren’t being over-dramatic when you said that?”
Virgil left the room, totally not dramatically, and checked on the little guy. They were organising things, probably supplies.
They didn’t look as tired anymore. Virgil went back down to his room. He obviously couldn’t let Roman know about the little guy.
Roman was… very excitable. The little guy seemed very skittish, and they seemed to avoid loud noises. It would be best to keep Roman in the dark about this.

Sanders Sides AU - Logan's "training"
All the sides know that Logan is completing some sort of training. Whether it's a seminar or a specific course, they're not certain. They only know that it's stressing Logan out and that he's convinced it's worth it, so they never question it
Apparently, Logan was completing his homestudy to adopt a 2yo boy named Virgil
So when Patton pays a visit to find out why Logan has disappeared from the face of earth for almost a whole week, he finds him in full dad mode and Lo is forced to explain what the hell is going on
Patton takes it surprisingly well, mainly because he is coming down with the worst case of baby fever himself
Baby Vee is introduced to the whole squad and after the initial shock, there's a silent agreement between all 4 that they need to help Logan as much as possible with the little one because he looks the happiest they've ever seen him
Virgil is a handful at times because of everything he's been through but Logan and the rest of the FAMily help him immensely
Patton is a little more involved than the rest and Logicality ensues
Let me know if you'd be interested in reading it!

Ship of Dreams
----
“You know - they say this ship can’t sink, it was all in the papers, impossible - they said.”
“Yes, that’s what I’ve heard,” Roman shrugged, shifting just a little closer. He wished he could wrap his arms around him, press kisses to his cheeks - pink with the cold - but they couldn’t, not in public. Roman hoped that was something that would change one day.
“If… if she did sink - what would we do?” Virgil asked, eyes still trained on the frothing wake the ship left in its path.
“Why, I’d swim us to America, of course, I promise,” Roman said, reaching over to brush his fingers over Virgil’s jaw, so he’d look over at him, “But she won’t sink, don’t worry so much my darling.”

Hi all this is NOT my usual kind of fic and this one's gonna need some context AND some warnings.
So this is a fic I wrote for a RP au I'm doing on discord, which is why it may seem like it's lacking context. To add some basic needed context: Roman is an immortal vampire, Virgil is his boyfriend/lover - at the point of the fic they've been together about five and a bit years. This fic details how Virgil dies, and is a major point in his backstory for the RP. Everything else should be obvious in the fic <3
----
Roman had hardly ever seen Virgil so excited as he ran into his arms, waving the pair of tickets he had just bought in his hand. Having fairly rich parents did come with perks, after all, and Virgil had finally managed to convince them to send over the money they’d need to go to America. Roman could have paid for them himself, but Virgil had wanted to do this one himself - and second class tickets were incredibly expensive, not even thinking about first. They were lucky Virgil’s parents had agreed to let him move further away - they already weren’t too happy about him living in England, let alone America.
Still, he was pulled into a tight hug, Virgil’s warm hand pressed into the small of his back and the other resting on his hip. Never would he get used to the warmth of human touch. Virgil pressed his lips to the shell of Roman’s ear and then yelped indignantly as Roman picked him up to spin them around with a cheer of celebration.
“I can’t wait to show you America,” Roman said once he’d set Virgil back on his feet, a grin broke out on his face.
“I still want to see these apparent secret tunnels of yours,” Virgil said, pinching his arm playfully, Roman yelped when he did, as if it hurt when he had barely felt it at all, “Need to see what you’re constantly raving about.”
“There are secret tunnels! I had them built myself!” Roman cried indignantly, Virgil had never believed him about his secret rooms and tunnels in his mansion back in America, Roman couldn’t wait to show him.
“Well I’d like to see them,” He huffed, “I won’t believe you until I do.”
“A week, my Stormcloud,” Roman said, meeting Virgil’s eyes with a bright smile, “A week, and I’ll be able to show you all you’ve ever wanted to see.”
Virgil punched him in the arm, “You’re such a sap.”
—-
“Isn’t she huge ?” Roman said, looking up at the ship they were to be sailing on. It was a warm day, sunny and midmorning. The ship itself was to sail at noon, but Virgil had always been nervous about timings, so they were here just a little bit early - almost ten am. Virgil yanked Roman’s hat over his face and huffed whilst he flailed and cried out indignantly.
“That’s why she’s called ‘Titanic’,” Virgil said, rolling his eyes, only making Roman laugh
“I knew that, you fusspot, come on.”
“No you come on, slowpoke,” Virgil said, whacking Roman in the arm before running off towards the ship. Running after him, Roman cried out with a laugh, weaving between people whilst keeping a hand on his hat. He knew that the people around must think him insane, but he didn’t care much when he finally found Virgil waiting for him near the second class gangway - he was fairly certain that the only reason he’d stopped was the fact that Roman needed the ticket he carried to follow him onto the ship itself. The guard checked their tickets - Roman Prince and Virgil Garcia - and handed them back to Virgil, who stepped up onto the gangway and stopped, leaning back to offer Roman a hand, smiling brightly.
For a moment, Roman was stopped dead in awe at how beautiful his partner looked, the cool wind whipping his dark hair around his face and his eyes lit up with a smile as he shook his hand, waiting for Roman to take it. Quickly he snapped out of it, reaching for Virgil’s hand and letting himself be led onto the Ship of Dreams.
Their rooms were lovely. Far better than they had expected with carpeted floors and mahogany furniture. Roman had honestly expected worse - though everyone had been saying that this ship was ahead of her time. According to the newspapers the ship’s facilities were more lavish and comfortable than any other for all classes, but he still hadn’t expected this.
“You want top bunk?” Virgil asked, already putting his bags up there - he already knew what Roman’s answer would be before he asked the question.
“I want to cuddle with you,” He said with a pout, making Virgil laugh.
Gesturing to the bed, Virgil shrugged, “It’ll be tight.”
“I know you don’t care about that,” Roman rolled his eyes, “You’d be happy if I had to lie on top of you.”
Virgil shrugged, “You got me.”
Rolling his eyes, Roman put his own bag on the top bunk with Virgil’s, glancing around, “You know - since we’re here early…”
“That’s your plotting tone, you’re plotting something,” Virgil said, crossing his arms.
“Well… we arrived so early, and there aren’t many people here yet… why don’t we go explore instead of hiding in here?”
With a small frown on his face, Virgil looked Roman over, he was still wearing a cloak and his hat, but… “...Are you sure the sun won’t bother you?”
“Such a worrywort,” Roman shakes his head grimly, “I’ll be fine, dearest, come on - I want to see what they’re hiding from us in first class.”
“Princey!” Virgil hissed as Roman stood up, grabbing his hand and pulling him along, “We can’t go there!”
Roman turned back to him with a smile, “Hey, they’re not here yet! It’s barely even ten and the trains haven’t arrived, why don’t we have a bit of fun, right?”
Shaking his head, Virgil made his way after Roman to explore the first class areas whilst they could.
—-
“This place is plain awful,” Virgil mumbled as they looked over the second class dining room. It was already nearly full of people gathering for dinner and crowded, neither of them were a fan of crowded spaces for their own reasons. Roman winced.
“What’s the chance they’d let you take a plate and go?” He asked, tilting his head, Virgil grumbled something unintelligible before grabbing Roman’s wrist and leading him to an emptier spot on one of the large, long tables and sitting down. Roman sighed and sat next to him, hooking his foot over Virgil’s for reassurance. When they were approached by a waiter, Roman declined anything and Virgil ordered and scoffed his food as fast as he could so they could get out of there.
The walk back to their stateroom down on E deck (so many stairs, Roman had offered to carry Virgil down them, he’d refused) felt like an age. When they had finally gotten there, Virgil gently pushed him down onto the sofa in their room, taking his own seat sideways in his lap, and pulling his hair back.
“Your turn,” He said, leaning back against him. Roman frowned.
“Virgil, love-” Roman started, before Virgil cut him off.
“You’re gonna protest because you do this every time but you haven’t drank anything in three days, Princey,” Virgil said, leaning over to pull him into a kiss, “And I don’t want you to be hungry whilst we’re tryna have fun, got it?”
Roman sighed, carefully brushing Virgil’s hair back and pulling his jacket down so it sat around his waist instead. Virgil immediately relaxed into him as his lips barely brushed over his neck.
“I don’t like doing this,” Roman said softly, Virgil shivered at the cool brush of his lips.
“I know,” Virgil said, reaching around him to start untying his hair, “I wish there was a better way for you to get what you need.”
Really, in Roman’s mind, he didn’t have much hope for something like that. He was scared he would have to keep doing this forever, and after Virgil…. Without Virgil he would have to go back to hunting.
Taking a deep breath, just the way Virgil had taught him, he nodded, “That would be nice, for now I’m… grateful that you let me have you.”
“Well I’m grateful that you can do it for me,” Virgil said, gently patting Roman’s chest, “You know I need the relaxation sometimes.”
“You’re going to get addicted to my venom at some point and then neither of us will be happy,” Roman pointed out, giving him a little nudge. Virgil huffed.
“I don’t think that’s possible.”
“Who knows?”
“Just shut up and bite me, Princey.”
—-
“Isn’t it beautiful?” Roman said, tone a little wistful as he leant on the railing, leaning over just a little to look at the ship’s wake. It still amazed him how such a heavy thing was able to stay afloat, let alone move so quickly.
Leaning on the railing with him, just a little ways away, Virgil hummed. His hair blew back with a particularly strong gust of wind that had his jacket billowing around his legs and Roman laughed.
“A little cold though, hm?”
“Just a bit,” Virgil grumbled. Crossing his arms on the railing and looking down at the water, “You know - they say this ship can’t sink, it was all in the papers, impossible - they said.”
“Why, I’d swim us to America, of course, I promise I’d still get us there,” Roman said, reaching over to brush his fingers over Virgil’s jaw, so he’d look over at him, “But she won’t sink, don’t worry so much my darling.”
“Mm…” Virgil hummed, looking back at the water, “It’s a little scary, isn’t it? I mean - I know we’ve both done it before, but… leaving everything we know? Isn’t that terrifying?”
“A little,” Roman agreed, “I like to think of it more as an adventure - it helps with the nerves.”
He had been on so many adventures in his time, moving all over England, visiting Spain, going to America. Virgil had only ever travelled from his home in Spain to England, it was still a terrifying journey - especially for Virgil, who worried too much about such little things.
“You look lovely in this light,” Roman says, glancing towards the sun where it slowly approached the horizon, “I’d love to paint you in it.”
He made a wide gesture and when his hand left the railing, his glove clung to the metal.
They slept soundly together that night, curled up in each other’s arms. That would be the last time they would ever do so.
The third day of their trip had started normally - aside from an odd ‘off’ feeling that Roman had quickly brushed off, not wanting to worry Virgil. They had gone about the day just like any other - Roman had wanted to see what the library on board had to offer (not much he hadn’t already read) but they had stayed in there half the morning until lunch, where they’d made their way towards the dining hall early in order to secure seats at the ends on the tables instead of being stuck between a bunch of strangers.
As the sun began to set, the pair returned to the stern of the ship to once more watch the sea, the night was clear and crisp that night - with not a cloud in sight.
“It’s getting dark,” Virgil commented as the sun slowly sank below the horizon.
“Do you want to go back inside?” Roman asked, tilting his head, it was definitely starting to get colder out here.
Virgil’s gaze travelled from the horizon up to Roman’s face, and then beyond him to where the first stars were starting to peek through the sunset, “Would you like to stargaze?” He asked, “Maybe after dinner? It looks like the night’ll be clear enough.”
“You think so?” Roman asked, joining him in looking upwards.
“Do you see a cloud up there?”
“I suppose not,” Roman chuckles, placing his hand on top of Virgil's on the railing, “Well now I’m excited to gaze at the stars with you, come - let’s have dinner quickly.”
An hour later when they returned to the deck it was fully dark, dark enough for Roman and Virgil to sneak up to the first class promenade on A-Deck where they could get a much better view without the ship’s smokestacks in the way. Luckily for them they weren’t noticed and found a cosy bench to curl up on. Roman let down his hair for Virgil to run his hands through as they watched the stars.
At some point Virgil fell asleep whilst Roman talked mindlessly about the constellations - most of which he had made up. He had always found it more relaxing when Roman talked, the sound of his voice soothing him. For the few hours that Virgil slept, Roman held him, his cheek rested atop Virgil’s head as he continued to watch the stars above them and the dark sea ahead. It was peaceful at night, with barely even a breeze, though it was cold.
By the time Virgil woke again, Roman thought it must have been some time past midnight, he wasn’t too sure, though Virgil was groggy and mumbling something about not knowing where they were. Roman told him that he’d fallen asleep.
“Oh you must be freezing,” Virgil said softly, sitting up a little more and looking at him, “We’ve been out here for hours-”
“I’m fine, really,” Roman waved him off. Sure, it was cold, but Roman didn’t mind all that much. Huffing - clearly not accepting that answer - Virgil shrugged off his jacket and wrapped it around Roman’s shoulders. A triumphant smile on his face when Roman practically melted into it. He stuck his tongue out in retaliation.
“Oh put that away,” Virgil said, obviously trying not to laugh as he sticks his tongue out at Roman too.
“You hypocrite!” Roman cried, a hand to his heart with an offended gasp. Virgil turned away as he burst out laughing, giving Roman the chance to put on the jacket properly.
Looking back at him, Virgil crossed his arms, “I’m not getting that back now until we go inside, am I?”
“Absolutely not,” Roman says, shaking his head solemnly.
“Ro… oh shit! Ro - look at that,” Virgil said, grabbing Roman’s arm and pointing somewhere ahead of them. Roman’s eyes widened a little, “Is that an iceberg?”
“...I think so,” Roman nodded, frowning, an iceberg that they looked to be heading straight for, no less, “They’ve seen it - I can hear them - they’re turning the ship, it’s alright.”
“Oh, good,” Virgil says, leaning back into Roman’s side where they sat on the bench.
It wasn’t alright.
Virgil let out a short lived sigh of relief as the bow of the ship passed the iceberg ahead of them, before yelping in alarm when the whole ship creaked and screeched in protest and started to shudder and shake - grabbing onto Roman’s arm and staring up at where chunks of ice were breaking off of the berg and landing with a crash on the deck. Neither of them seemed to have words for a moment as they watched it pass.
“I didn’t realise icebergs were so big…” Roman said softly - it was the only thing he could think of at the moment. He didn’t know what he should have expected from an iceberg - but it wasn’t something so huge and monstrous as that.
Keeping tight hold of Roman’s arm, Virgil stood, Roman going with him so they wouldn’t have to separate. They made their way over to the edge of the ship. Roman put a careful hand on Virgil’s back as they leant over, trying to see what damage had been done.
“We can’t see from here,” Roman said, worry lacing his voice as Virgil turned back to look at him.
“What do we do?” He asks, “Do they know?”
“I’m sure they know,” Roman nodded, glancing around. A few more people had come up onto the deck now, looking around in confusion. The iceberg itself was already far in the distance when Roman felt the ship shudder to a halt beneath his feet, “Yeah, they know.”
Frowning, Virgil leant into Roman’s side, “How bad do you think it was?”
Roman stayed quiet and listened, though it was hard to hear into the wheelhouse with the people now on the deck murmuring and chattering quietly. Virgil waited patiently for an answer, and the answer Roman ended up with was not a good one.
“She’s sinking,” Roman said, voice small, Virgil looked up at him in horror as Roman started to panic, “It’s bad - really bad -the iceberg tore up the side of the ship -”
Quickly, Virgil squeezed Roman’s arm, putting a hand on his face, “It’s okay, shh, breath Princey.”
“Virgil -”
“Roman,” Virgil told him, “It’ll be okay-”
“Virgil there’s not enough lifeboats,” Roman interrupted him, still listening to what the officers were whispering about above them, “Not everyone is going to be able to make it - not even half-”
Putting both hands on Roman’s cheeks now, Virgil gave him a gentle kiss, “It’s okay, Ro, they’ll get help - there's other ships, precautions and stuff -”
“How are you not panicking?” Roman asked, looking over at him, Virgil looked back.
“I am - I’m just - you’re panicking,” Virgil said, “So I have to stay calm - one of us does.”
“That’s not - it doesn’t work like that,” Roman shook his head.
“Would you rather I be panicking right now?”
“...No,”
“Then shush - and lets just - lets just figure out what to do.”

It was chaos. With Virgil clinging to Roman’s arm for dear life, Roman led them through the crowd from lifeboat to lifeboat, trying like many others to find one that would let them on. Women and children only, they all said, getting the men to stand back whilst women of all ages and children were piled onto the boats. Roman noticed one boat launched half full and almost shed a tear right then. Virgil helped a set of twins with curly red hair into the nearest lifeboat - they seemed to have lost their parents in the half-panicked crowd - he wasn’t allowed to follow them in. A surge of panic had overtaken him when Virgil had left his side and it never faded despite getting him back moments later.
They kept trying, the crowds grew more and more frantic, the number of people on the deck only grew despite more lifeboats being launched. Roman thought he might strangle the next officer who wouldn’t let Virgil on.
That surge of panic from before had never quite left him, only grown stronger and stronger as time passed and people got more and more panicked around them too. The yelling was deafening, Virgil had covered his ears some time ago, flinching every time someone screamed or shouted too close. People pushed and shoved their way to the front, someone elbowed Virgil and Roman hissed viciously at the man - he didn’t care who he was. The poor guy had backed off, terrified, just like everyone else.
The band was still playing. Virgil remarked on it bitterly as they passed the trio for the second time. “Music to drown by? Now I know we’re in first class.”
Roman couldn’t help how the remark had made him wince. First class, that’s who was up here. A few of the lucky second and third class who’d come up to investigate in the first place. Where were the hundreds of people who weren’t first class? How many people had been abandoned to die in the bowels of this ship?
Tilting, the ship was tilting. Walking down the deck to the last boat felt like walking down a muddy hill. They could see the water now, so much closer, at the bow of the ship - where they’d been sitting just two hours ago - water was almost rising over the railings now.
There were no lifeboats left.
They had tried desperately, checked everywhere, none. No boats were left, Roman could see them in the distance, sailing away. He could hear the screaming of a thousand people, left, waiting, scared, clinging to a sinking ship, hundreds of people left alone and scared to die. Virgil looked at Roman, eyes wide as water spilled onto the promenade they had snuck onto to explore just three days ago, the promenade on which they had sat to watch the stars.
“What do we do?” He whispered. Roman choked back a sob, he didn’t have an answer.
Still he dragged Virgil up the ship as it tilted, they followed the screaming crowd as they ran for the stern, no matter the hopelessness that was quickly filling his heart and spilling over into his head. Roman still held Virgil tightly as the ship tore itself in half, he still screamed with Virgil and everyone else as she crashed back into the water. Virgil was trembling, with cold or fear or both Roman didn’t know.
“It’s going to be cold,” Roman said, Virgil was momentarily stripped of his panic to stare at him.
“Pretty redundant statement, Princey,” he gritted out as they clung to a metal fence,
“You’ll have to hold your breath,” Roman said anyway, “And don’t let go of me - I’ll get us to the surface.”
Virgil didn’t bite back this time, the ship had started to go down again, they could feel it, the flip of their stomachs, like this was just a demented, awful, fairground ride.
Just as Roman had said to, Virgil clung to him when they were sucked down by the water into the void the ship had left. Kicking for the surface, Roman pulled Virgil out of the water, where he spluttered and spat out salt water. People all around them were screaming and yelling, splashing in the water, he held Virgil close as everyone looked for something to cling to, anything to keep them afloat.
“They’ll come back,” Roman said to a violently shivering Virgil, with a death grip on the jacket he was still wearing, later he would wonder whether giving the jacket back could have saved him, he hadn’t thought of it before, “They’ll save you, they’ll save you.”
Both of them, somehow, knew it wasn’t true.
It got quiet, it got quiet too quickly.
“They’re dying,” Virgil whispered, his voice cracking and small. His breath fogged in front of him, Roman could see his lips were turning blue and saltwater turned to frost on his eyelashes, “I’m- I’m going to die, Roman, you have to-”
“No,” Roman shook his head violently, he too had frost on his lashes, in his hair, though it was shaken off. He couldn’t succumb to hypothermia, after all, “No you won’t, I won’t, they’ll come back, they have to.”
“Roman please,” Virgil whispered, “Please turn me.”
“Virgil,” He whispered, “I-”
“Do it, Roman, please,” He begged, his words stuttering and forced through his quickly slowing shivers. He didn’t have time, the lifeboats weren’t coming back, they wouldn’t make it.
He supposed swimming to America wasn’t so far-fetched an idea after all.
“Okay,” he said, pained, but there was no choice, he would die otherwise, “Okay - okay.”
His fangs sank into Virgil’s neck, his skin was freezing, his blood felt like ice pouring down Roman’s throat, tears slipped down his cheeks only to freeze halfway there as Virgil fell limp in his arms.
A sob ripped its way from his throat as he pulled away, leaving blood to trickle from the bite despite Virgil’s heart no longer beating.
Through his tears he tore open his wrist with his own fang, holding the bleeding wound over his loves parted lips even as his skin knitted itself together again. He knew it was useless, he had been too late.
It was far too late when a boat did come back.
The death all around him had made Roman sick, he’d vomited at least once by now, lungs hurting though he didn’t need to breathe, heart heavy though it didn’t beat. He clung to Virgil’s lifeless body even as they tried to pull him aboard.
Weakly he fought them, but even he was weak and tired from the water, sobs still wracked his body with every moment. Roman hadn’t cried this much since he was human.
The officer had to break Virgil’s frozen fingers to loosen his grip on the jacket Roman still wore. His jacket, Virgil’s jacket, which he refused to let them take off of him in favour of dry blankets when they boarded the Carpathia even when they promised him he’d get it back. He’d screamed when they pulled Virgil’s corpse away from him, pulled him back when he’d tried to reach for him again, held him down as he cried out in anguish as his love sank under the water.
They called him mad in whispers aboard the Carpathia, crew and passengers alike, when she arrived to save them, hours too late though she was the only one who had come. An officer was assigned to watch him after he had tried to throw himself overboard within hours, he had to get back to him, find him, he’d promised that they’d see America, he’d told him that he’d swim if he had to and if they let him he would. Virgil didn’t deserve to rot at the bottom of the Atlantic.
But Roman had been too weak for that, he was too weak to save him, too weak to go back to him, too weak to make good on any of his promises. All he could do was cling to the jacket he wore and the blanket they had given him. He sat so still and unmoving that they worried he was in shock, they’d sent for a doctor and Roman had pushed him away when he’d tried to diagnose him with hysteria. Still he cried but he didn’t scream, he didn’t try and throw himself over the railings again, they had moved too far for that now and Roman knew he wouldn’t make it. He knew he wasn’t strong enough anymore.
The moment the statue of liberty passed over him was supposed to be a happy one, one he could share with the person he loved as they embarked on such a wondrous adventure. But it was only Roman who passed under that statue as rain poured down over them, it was only Roman who got to see her in her glory - even in the rain she was beautiful, he thought Virgil would’ve loved to see it.
“Your name, sir?” An officer asked as he reached the gate, expression blank and eyes absent, hands shaking as they clenched the jacket that still smelled of saltwater and death. He looked up, finding himself unable to make eye contact with the man, though he had a kind face, a sympathetic look in his eyes. Roman couldn’t stand it, he didn’t need sympathy, he needed something no-one could give him back.
“Roman,” He said, tone flat.
“And your surname>?” he prompted. Someone behind him in the line huffed in annoyance. Roman’s hand worried a frayed seam in the jacket - he would have to fix it when he got home, he couldn’t lose this too. The last thing Virgil had given to him.
Not the last.
“Roman Garcia,” He said, trying to sound confident. The man nodded with a smile and wrote down his name before waving him off.
Roman Prince had left England hand in hand with the person he loved, waving to no-one aboard the Ship of Dreams, full of hope and excited for the future - they both had been.
Roman Garcia stepped onto the grounds of America alone, hand and heart equally empty, from a ship that had been the only one to answer their call for aid. A ship that had not been fast enough to save him.

Lucky
AU: Soulmate Human AU
CW: Remus Angst
WC: 3703
Date: 12/7/2023
There were few people in the world who were as lucky as Remus. He had been born with four soulmates, four people he could pour all of his love and admiration onto and have it be reciprocated. Even if he was a little weird, even if he was a bit reckless, there were going to be four people who loved him through it all.
There were few people in the world who were as lucky as Remus. When he was in middle school he had made two new friends only to find out pretty quickly that they were his soulmates. He had found two of his forever people before he even turned 13 and he knew he was going to have a life full of happiness and love with the two of them. When they found their other two soulmates, Remus was going to be the happiest person in the world.
Remus had a run of bad luck. It could happen to anyone. A few teachers who didn't like him, a few gossipy students who wanted to ruin him, and two parents who didn't believe him. It was a recipe for disaster. Remus was sent away, but he had already met two of his soulmates and his brother, so it was okay.
Remus' bad luck continued. His brother was isolated from him, apparently a bad influence isn't worth talking to. His soulmates were isolated from him. Janus' parents were convinced Remus was the devil and Virgil's own family was chaos. Between the drama in their lives and the restrictions in Remus' their communication faltered and failed more and more until it was basically non-existent.
There were few people in the world who were as unlucky as Remus. He had finally gotten out of his crappy high school his parents had shipped him to. He had his freedom, but he had no one. Virgil's phone was disconnected, Janus' father picked up when Remus tried to call, and Roman wanted nothing to do with him. Remus was alone but he didn't need luck. He could be strong. He could fight. Not to mention, he had hope. Remus still had two soulmates who might want to see him.
There were few people in the world who were as unlucky as Remus. He stared down at his phone, looking at his brother's instagram. He was home for the summer break, his first semester of college over with, and he had brought home two friends. At first Remus couldn't believe his eyes, two men, two soulmarks, both matching his missing pieces. His brother had to have known. He had to have understood what it meant becoming friends with those two people, those two specifically. Remus threw his phone at the wall of his apartment. It was drafty and poorly maintained but it was his. He had learned how to do most of the repairs himself. He had gotten into a job himself, and damn it was exhausting, but he had done it all for the hope that one day his luck would turn around, one day he could be loved again. Sinking to the floor, Remus put his head in his knees, closing his eyes and fighting the tears that threatened to well up from inside of him. It had all been a rumor, a stupid rumor his parents and teachers took as truth. Yes he liked the macabre, but that didn't make him a monster, and even if he was, what of it. He wasn't hurting anyone. Remus ran a hand through his hair, looking at the dent in his wall. He was going to have to fix that. He could get all the supplies and then maybe get himself something cheap to eat from a fast food place. It was so hard to cook cheaply for one person especially when he didn't have proper storage space for leftover or bulk cooking.
Pushing himself to his feet, Remus walked over and picked up his phone, quickly closing the Instagram app so he wasn't able to focus on what he lost. He had wanted to go back home after high school, to return to his hometown and find Janus and Virgil. However, being completely cut off from financial help, it wasn't necessarily easy for him to make it back home. He might be able to now that it was a year later, but his finances still weren't completely secure. Maybe he should start posting on Instagram rather than just stalking his brother, then Janus and Virgil could find him easier, but honestly, Remus was nervous. So much had gone wrong in his life, he was afraid of trying to reach out again, of watching it all blow up in his face. He had an account, but it was blank, and he wasn't following anyone, not even Roman. Remus hadn't wanted to give his brother the chance to block him. He couldn't handle being anymore disconnected then he already was.
Slipping his phone into his pocket, Remus ruffled his long hair. He had started dying it green ever since he got out of that stupid boarding school. Maybe he should post that, he could dye his hair again, it was getting a bit faded and he could buy box dye and a steak quesadilla and just do something for himself today. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, Remus went to check his bank account. He had enough money for it, especially if he wasn't going to try and go back to his hometown. He needed to find another word for it. That place hadn't been home in a really long time.
True to his word, Remus spent the rest of his night dying his hair a bright green, he even trimmed it up and made it look nice before taking a picture and posting it. He wasn't trying to get famous or anything, just trying to throw out a line. He wasn't the type to sit by helplessly. If Janus and Virgil didn't find him, then it wasn't actually meant to be. If they did and didn't want him... well he could continue deluding himself.
After seeing his last two soulmates with Roman, he wasn't expecting to ever have them by his side. He was sure his brother had already told them a million awful things about the type of person he was. He was going to cling to what he knew, who he knew. Virgil and Janus had been such wonderful soulmates. They had just been kids when they met, and that's all they wanted to be back then. The three of them would sneak onto the school at night, they would play harmless pranks on each other and when things were really hard for Virgil at home, they would all come together and just exist. That's what Remus wanted, he wanted someone he could exist with, someone he could go home to. He wasn't sure what that was going to mean for any of them in a future, if they even had one together, but he imagined Halloweens spent in graveyards, Christmases spent in the forest. He imagined so much while he was separated from them. Now he just hoped to have them in his house one day.
[Section Break]
Virgil sat on Janus' couch, curled up against him as he scrolled through tumblr. Janus had just gotten back for summer break and Virgil wasn't intending on leaving his side if it could be helped. He had gotten super clingy after they lost Remus, and it really was their fault. The two of them should have tried harder to keep in contact with him, but he hadn't had a cell phone when he was sent to that stupid boarding school and Virgil's home life had gotten so much worse. Remus had been so isolated, but so had Virgil up until the day he turned eighteen and ran away. Janus was the one who had helped him out, hiding most of it from his parents. The two of them were all each other had and even now they could only cuddle like this because both of his parents were out on a cruise. Their only son came back from college and they were gone. Virgil didn't know how they could stand to be separated from him.
"You're squishing me again, I can't breathe," Janus chuckled, shifting so he could pull Virgil a bit closer. "How is it you are a guest in this house and yet taking up my entire couch?"
"It's not my fault your couch is so small," Virgil stretched as if to make a point and Janus rolled his eyes before leaning down to kiss him.
"It's not my fault you're so tall."
"You're just short, even Remus-" Virgil cut himself off, they weren't supposed to talk about Remus, it hurt too much, but sometimes he couldn't help it.
"You're thinking about him again, aren't you?" Janus put down his phone, running a hand over Virgil's eyes to hide him from the world. They had had to stop thinking about Remus, stop dwelling on him. It was tearing both of them apart. Virgil blamed himself for not reaching out more and Janus worried about whether or not Remus was doing alright. Everything had gone from perfect to falling apart in such a short time, and they had just been kids.
"I can't help it. I keep thinking if I had written him letters, or if I had done literally anything at all, maybe I could have kept in touch with him, maybe he and I could be working to support you through what you want to do and not what your parents want you to do."
"A third income would help," Janus teased, rubbing his thumb across Virgil's temple, watching as his boyfriend wrapped his fingers around Janus' hand, holding him closer. "But it's not your fault. It's not either of our faults. If anything, we can blame Roman."
Virgil snorted but didn't argue. The two of them both had a bone to pick with Roman who had truly gone to the dark side in high school. He had perpetuated the rumors about his brother and started using Remus as his tragic backstory. Senior year Virgil had decked Roman for his lies. He had gotten suspended for three days but it had been worth it.
"Do you want to jump onto instagram and make fun of him?" Janus asked and Virgil pouted. It wasn't fair for him to be so well known. He was supposed to be mysterious.
"Yeah," He finally relented, slowly pulling down Janus ‘hand so he could see once again. "After, do you want to go to the mall and see if we can scope out soulmates? More people means more eyes looking for Remus."
"I guess if we have to leave the comfort of my home the mall is acceptable." Virgil poked Janus in the side and they both laughed a bit, settling back into their silence. It was hard to keep themselves smiling and happy, but they did their best. They fought to keep and hold each other, not willing to lose one another again. Janus opened up Roman's instagram and immediately shot up almost pushing Virgil off the couch.
"What? What happened?"
"Look at this!" He held his phone out. Virgil and Janus were both looking at Roman with two men they had never seen before, two men who had their soulmarks.
"We should break into the house," Janus said quietly but seriously and Virgil shot up. It was so like Remus and for a moment it almost felt like he was here, but then the moment faded and Virgil was very aware that this was an awful idea.
"We should not, we can't break into Remus' childhood home. Especially not with Roman there. The two probably aren't even with him, they're probably in a hotel or something."
Janus lifted his eyebrow, standing up as well. "Come on Virgil, think about it. They have so many bedrooms, and the Prince parents are so concerned about status. They would never have their guests stay in a hotel. They are probably in the media room watching some stupid movie. Also, this is something Remus would do, and if they can't see past it, then they won't accept Remus, and I won't accept them."
Virgil wrung his hands together. "This… this is a really bad idea, but I'll follow you anywhere."
A look of love and adoration crossed Janus' face as he pulled Virgil in for a kiss. He wasn't the type for sudden affection, he preferred to be more mysterious than that, but sometimes, he had too much love to keep held in his chest. When they finally separated he smirked softly. "Let's go break into a house."
It wasn't really breaking into a house if they had a key, right? Technically they didn't break anything. Virgil still looked terrified about the whole thing, but he was doing his best to keep on a neutral face. Janus was proud, but also knew he would have to do almost all of the talking with this. He made his way to the media room, which was actually empty but then he heard laughing from the living room and Janus tilted his head that direction. Part of him felt the need to be dramatic, to flicker the lights and scare all of them, the other part of him did want to impress his soulmates. He would just have to wait for the right moment.
"Alright, Roman, what's your greatest fear?" The curly haired one asked and that was Janus' moment.
"Oh I can answer that," He walked in, leaning against the door frame with a smirk. "He's afraid he'll turn out to be like his brother, or at least, what he imagines his brother is."
The room was silent for a moment before the taller one went for his phone. It looked like he was dialing someone when Roman sighed and rolled his eyes.
"What are you doing here, Janus?" His tone was flat and Janus would have been offended if he wasn't more focused on the importance of what was in front of him.
"Coming to meet my soulmates, since you decided to hide the two of them from us."
"I wasn't hiding anything from them or you," Roman stated and at the same time Logan and Patton spoke.
"Us?"
Virgil slowly walked around the corner. "Sorry to disturb you, I thought it was a bad idea, but also, we didn't want to miss an opportunity to meet you." He looked over at the two men. "I'm Virgil, and this is Janus."
"How cruel of you to not let me introduce myself, but I guess Princy already broke that for me. Yes, my name is Janus and if you'd like me to unrobe, I can prove that the two of us are your soulmates. However, that might offend poor Roman's delicate sensibilities."
"Now see here," Roman shot up, making his way toward Janus but was stopped by Logan.
"Allow me to make sure I have all of the information correct. You know these two men?"
Roman nodded.
"And you were aware that we shared soulmarks."
Roman nodded again. "But, I just realized it today, when we were all in the pool."
Logan hummed and sighed, looking up at Roman. "What else are you hiding?"
Janus smirked at that. "Oh you haven't told them have you?"
"Quiet," Logan said standing up, "We could very well have you arrested for trespassing. Simply because I am irritated at Roman doesn't mean you are off the hook." He swiveled back to Roman. "What else haven't you told us?"
Patton stood up slowly, putting a hand on Logan's arm. "Hey, love, deep breath. I'm sure Roman has a reason, and isn't it just a bit romantic that they came running to find us as soon as they knew where we were?" He asked with a softness that melted some of Logan's ire. He took in a slow deep breath and turned back to Roman expectantly.
"Do you remember the brother I've told you about?"
"The brother who bullied someone until they left school?"
"You fucking liar!" Virgil hissed, stepping forward. "Is that what you told them about him? You know that was a stupid rumor. Jenna moved because her parents were relocated. The two of them barely interacted." It was Janus' turn to reach out and reign his love in. Patton looked a bit surprised. Logan looked suspicious.
"What about your brother?" Logan asked.
"He's your fourth soulmate." The room was deathly silent for a bit, none of them dared to breathe. "I didn't know, I swear I didn't know until today, and I didn't know how to tell you. Remus really was awful, he was always trying to be in the spotlight, always attempting to do weird things just to get other people's attention. He didn't understand how to behave and he stepped all over people's boundaries. He wasn't a good person, and I wasn't sure how to tell you that the universe decided you should be with someone like that. I was going to tell you eventually, but I just... I didn't know how."
Patton pulled Roman in for a hug. "We know the soulmate subject is tricky for you, but this is a decision you should have let us make."
Logan rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I agree, especially since you have no idea where your brother is." Logan turned to Janus and Virgil, "My name is Logan, would you two happen to know where Remus is?"
They both immediately turned somber and Logan sighed. "Very well, now that we know what we're dealing with. I think it's probably best if you two head home as you weren't invited and you are currently trespassing. Roman, we are going to have a very frank discussion about your brother." He pulled out his phone, opening it up and handing it to Janus. "Please put your phone number in, I shall call you in the morning and we can discuss things further." Janus raised his eyebrow and said nothing as he put his name and number in the phone, adding a heart emoji just for flair.
[Section Break]
After they had left, Logan sighed and rubbed his face. "Roman, I have always been aware that your disdain for your brother might be more than you were willing to admit, however, hiding our soulmate from us is reprehensible at best and an intentional betrayal of our friendship at worst."
Roman's face soured but Logan continued. He didn't want this to turn into an argument, he just wanted to understand. "Tell us about Remus, not your opinions, but what he has actually done."
They had a conversation, a long one, a hard one. It went several hours into the night and at the end of it Patton and Roman, who weren't used to all nighter study sessions, were both exhausted. Logan, on the other hand, wanted to reach out to Janus first. He had gotten as much information as he could from Roman, including Remus' disownment and the location of Remus' boarding school he had been sent to. Logan had a job now. He didn't think Remus would be far from where the boarding school was, especially if he hadn't had the money to leave. Which meant he could construct a radius, and maybe they could go on a field trip. He wanted a chance to meet his soulmate. He wanted to be able to decide for himself whether or not Remus was too much. Logan didn't like being told what he could and couldn't do, what he could and couldn't have. He made the decisions for himself, and he would judge Remus for himself.
He and Patton spent the rest of the night coming up with a plan, Roman consistently sulking in the corner. In the morning the two of them spoke to Remus and Janus again. It was decided, they were going to go on a road trip, not only to try and find Remus, but also in order to get to know one another better. That's what led Patton here, standing with Janus in a coffee shop almost a full state away. The drive had been hard, but fun and they had decided to split up into unfamiliar pairs. Patton was getting to know Janus and the ways he had with words. He was currently sweet talking a barista, acting calm and collected, yet Patton had also seen him go on rants about injustice as he and Logan debated. There were so many sides to Janus and Patton was utterly fascinated.
"Can you tell us anymore about this patron, like what areas he frequents?" The barista shook her head, but then her eyes lit up.
"I don't know where he is, but I think that's him." She was pointing to a figure walking past the coffee shop, shuffling about in a daze. He looked so tired and in need of such care. Patton was moving on his own, quickly making his way to the man with bright green hair, a thunderbolt tattoo on his arm that matched the one of Patton's. As soon as he got to Remus' side, the man faltered and fell into Patton's arms. He must have been exhausted.
"Angel?" He asked quietly, and Patton couldn't help the smile that lit up his face. He was already starting to like Janus, so of course he was willing to jump into this feet first.
"I'm sorry kiddo, I'm not an Angel, but I think I could fall for you like Lucifer."
Remus snorted, slowly pushing himself up. "Cute," he muttered, yawning. "Thanks for catching me-"
It seemed like he had more to say, but didn't get a chance as Janus flung himself at Remus. "You're here."
"Jay?" He asked, trepidation and nervousness in his voice before he scooped up Janus, both of them inevitably falling on their asses. It didn't matter, not as Remus continued to call out Janus' nickname, and not as Patton sent a picture to Virgil and Logan.
Patton could tell, they were going to be the luckiest group ever.

Sanders Sides Preferences
Summary:
Short stories with each side (minus Remus) in a given scenario with (y/n)
(Ex: first meet, first kiss, confessions)
This is only going to be "First Meet" so I can see how well this does.
First Meet
Thomas Sanders - Old Vine Friends
“Storytime! They didn’t know that, after this moment, their lives would change-” Thomas begins, but is quickly interrupted by a loud squeal of excitement.
“Thomas!”
Thomas furrows his eyebrows but continues to smile, “Thomas? Never heard of him,” he jokes.
You tilt your head, your excitement fading as your smile turns into a frown.
“You don’t remember me, do you?”
Thomas pauses. He’s not very good with names, he can admit that, but he never forgets a face. He raises a hand to block the sun as he squints at you, and then his eyes widen with realization.
“(Y/N)!”
Your frown turns back into a grin. “The one and only”
“Oh my god, I missed you!” Thomas laughs as he pulls you into a hug
“Me too. It's been years!”
Thomas releases you from his death grip of a hug, fixing his hair.
“Yeah, sorry about that”
“It’s fine. It gave me time to start my own YouTube channel!”
“Really?” Thomas asks, his excitement renewed before quickly being crushed.
“Nah. Well, I tried, but it didn’t work out so well”
Virgil Sanders - At an MCR concert
You loved MCR; their music was great and yet…
This concert wasn’t as fun as you thought it would be.
Your friends were supposed to be hanging out with you, laughing, singing, dancing… Drinking. But they ended up drinking too much and went off to flirt with guys, leaving you alone with your anxious fidgeting in the back.
In a last desperate attempt to find your friends, you look around, but instead, you see a man staring at you.
“Staring is rude you know,” you grumble in defeat.
The man, seemingly realizing his mistake when you point it out, shakes his head frantically.
“Sorry, I just... You’ve been sitting here by yourself for 46 minutes and I was wondering if you wanted… company” He sputters.
You glance in the direction your friends were, accepting the fact that they won’t be returning anytime soon. You offer the stranger their now empty seats and he accepts, sitting beside you.
“I’m (y/n),” you murmur.
“Virgil,” he responds.
Patton Sanders - At a volunteer park clean-up
“Come on, everyone! Where’s the pep in your step? The beautiful smiles?” the community service conductor yells.
Everyone cheers. Even you manage to give a tired yell before returning to your task at hand. Every Sunday, you come out and pick up as much trash as you can before 6 o’clock. You’ve been doing it since you were little because when you got to look at the beautiful, clean field, it made you so happy. As you walk along the sidewalk, looking down at the floor for more trash, you run headfirst into someone.
“Sorry!” You blurt out before you even hit the ground.
“Oh no! No, I’m sorry! Don’t apologize!”
You look up to see a man with a blue polo shirt, and a cardigan wrapped around his shoulders, extending his hand. You take it hesitantly, and he lifts you to your feet with ease.
“I should’ve been watching where I was going… Honestly, it's my fault. I’m sorry,” you repeat, brushing the dirt off your shirt.
The guy purses his lips when you apologize again before a smile creeps onto his face.
“What’s brown and sticky?” he asks.
Caught off guard by this question, you look up and tilt your head, taking a moment to realize it’s the beginning of a joke.
“What?” you ask.
The man reaches out and picks a stick out of your hair, showing it to you. “A stick!”
Your eyes widen before you stifle your laughter with your hand.
“I’m (y/n),” you giggle.
The man raises his eyebrows and grins.
“Patton”
Logan Sanders - In a bookstore, munching on a Crofter-covered slice of toast
You slide your fingers along the spines of the science fiction books, most of them either too expensive or you’ve already read them. You take another bite of your toast despite just wanting to lick the jelly off the top, but then you would just be left with a piece of bread… Soggy bread at that. No one likes soggy bread.
Being in a bookstore heightens your senses. You have to be vigilant to make sure you don’t run over kids, or walk into people reading, so that’s how you were able to tell someone was looking over your shoulder.
“May I help you?” you ask, not looking up from the books.
“I was just wondering if that is… Um… Crofters Organic Concord Grape you are consuming alongside your piece of bread?” the person behind you says.
You finally look at the person, and nearly drop your toast that started this conversation. The stranger gazes intensely at you through the frames of his glasses.
It was honestly kind of hot if you ignore the fact he just asked what kind of jam you were eating.
“I- uh-... um… Yes,” you sputter out.
The man’s eyes widened for a split second, “Interesting. Do you come here often?” he asks.
“Every Sunday. Why?”
“Curiosity”
“Huh…” You take another bite of your toast. “...How did you know it was Crofters?”
“The smell”
“You do know that’s a little weird, right?”
The man looks genuinely sad, but surprisingly, not because you just called him weird. “My… brothers. They hid my Crofters for a month now…”
You look at your extra piece of toast and back at the man, then back at the toast.
“Do you want it?” you ask.
The man narrows his eyes, his nose scrunching in displeasure.
“Are you aware of how many germs could spread that way?”
“Less than if we shook hands,” you shoot back.
“That’s…” He seems to have to think about that for a second “Correct”
You hold out the bread, and the man snatches it away from you, smiling for the first time since starting this conversation. He licks the Crofters off the top as you had debated doing earlier. Then he eats the bread, closing his eyes and humming softly in satisfaction.
“Wow uh…” You aren’t sure how to respond.
“Thank you,” the man opens his eyes, the smile remaining on his lips even after the jam is gone “My name is Logan. It is a pleasure to meet you”
He offers you a handshake, but then remembers what you had said about the germs and changes his mind.
“I uh… I’m (y/n).”
“I would like to spend more time in your presence if that’s alright”
“O-okay?”
Roman Sanders - On the sidewalk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrZsP1oSSvs
Roman is Thomas(Duh) but depending on your gender, or which one you want to be, you’d sing either Dodie or Ben J. Pierce. When you sing solo, you can be whoever is singing the melody. This is just for when Roman joins.
Singing by the side of the road for money was not how you had expected to spend your Friday. However, getting fired from your job was not how you wanted to spend your Thursday, and you had bills to pay. As you looked at your hat, you could see at least 100 bucks, but that wasn’t nearly enough, at least not in this day and age.
Entranced by a beautiful voice, a man turned the corner, walked in your direction, and suddenly joined in on your song. His voice blended with the harmonies flawlessly.
All you could do was watch in awe as you continued singing, despite wanting to be furious. People started to gather around, throwing more and more money into your hat.
“Is anybody waving back at me?” you both sang.
“Waving,” you sang.
“Waving,” the man echoed back.
“Waving! Woah,” you both sang once more.
“Ohh,” the man finished.
With the adrenaline from the roaring applause, you threw your arms around the strange man.
“Oh my gosh! That was amazing! Thank you!”
“Oh uh- You're welcome,” he stutters.
Realizing that you were hugging a complete stranger, you quickly let go.
You cleared your throat, now looking at the ground in embarrassment. “You sounded really good,” you finally say.
“You too”
There was a pause.
“I’m (y/n) but everyone just calls me (n/n),” you extended your hand.
“Roman Sanders, but everyone just calls me Mister Sing-a-lot, Princey, or handsome,” he winked at you, grabbing your hand to kiss your knuckles.
A bright red blush crept its way to your ears, causing Roman to hum in amusement. Then, you and Roman knelt to collect the money from the overflowing hat.
“What’s this money for anyway?” Roman asked.
“Oh, nothing,” you lied.
“I don’t like liars,” Roman grumbled.
“It’s just a sob story. I don’t want you to pity me”
Roman stood up with you, handing you the money he had picked up as he tilted his head in curiosity.
You sighed. “I got fired a week ago and I need money to pay my rent or else I’ll get evicted”
Roman’s eyes widened, and you knew that look from the other people you had told that to.
“Don’t!” you snapped.
“Fine! But in return for not feeling bad for you, you have to go out to dinner with me”
“Nice try. How ‘bout we go get some coffee as friends”
Roman grumbled something but nodded in agreement.
“Cool”
Janus Sanders - In a cafe
“Hello. Welcome to Café aléatoire. What can I get you?” you ask the man in front of you, still writing down the previous order.
“This is my first time here. What tea would you suggest?” the man responds.
“Would you like me to surprise you?” you smile to yourself, finishing the order and finally looking up.
As you make eye contact with this customer, he returns a smile.
“Okay then. Surprise me”
You rack your brain, thinking of all 120 flavors of tea from memory. While doing this, you were staring at the man, maybe a little too intensely. He narrows his eyes and cocks his head in confusion at why you were staring at him.
Still racking your brain, you purse your lips before mumbling, “Chenin Blanc…” and rushing to the back kitchen. You grab the ingredients you need and make the tea in a matter of seconds. When you walk into the dining area, you see the customer has found a table beside the window.
“Here you go,” you set the tea kettle and cups down.
“May I ask what you decided on?” the man asks.
“No, you may not. Not until you try it at least”
The man pours the tea with his gloved hands and sips it.
“Is this… hot wine?” he asks, confused.
“No. Chenin Blanc. It’s supposed to taste like wine, and you look like a wine guy”
“Hm,” he takes another sip.
“Do you… like it?”
The man looks up, his eyes showing his content.
“Yess”
Proud of yourself, you smile.
For the next month, every Saturday, the man would come back, asking you to surprise him, and you never failed to satisfy him with the best tea you could think of. You felt honored that he trusted you to choose what he was drinking without question.
Today it took you longer to prepare the tea, but the man was still waiting at his window seat like every other Saturday.
“Finally, I was getting impatient,” the man joked.
“Well, this one was a little harder to make,” you retort.
The man watches you set it down and looks at it in confusion.
“It smells like regular tea,” he says.
“When have I ever given you regular tea?”
“Never”
He takes a sip and licks his lips thoughtfully.
“Strawberry? A little bit of citrus? And cinnamon”
“Yup! Do you like it?”
“Of course I like it”
“Good. That one isn’t very popular… I’ve never tried it before,” you say.
“Would you like to?”
“Try it?”
“Yess”
You look around at the empty cafe before grabbing a chair from another table and sitting down.
“Sure”
He pours you a cup.
“You know, I’ve been making you tea for the last month, and yet I still don’t know your name… Is it weird to ask for your name now?” you ask.
“Janus”
“Janus?”
“Please don’t laugh”
“Why would I laugh? That’s a super cool name. Like the god?”
Janus smiles, nodding as he takes another sip of his tea.
“Thank you (y/n)”
Remy Sanders - In the middle of nowhere(This one was for funsies)
“I have, like, no idea,” the man says, looking around in confusion.
He takes another sip of his coffee before abruptly hanging up on whoever was talking on the other end. Just as you are about to walk past him, he taps you on the shoulder.
“Excuse me,” he says.
You stop, taking your earbuds out in confusion.
“Hm?”
“Do you know where we are right now?”
“Uh… Near Starbucks?” you respond.
“In another case, that would be, like, super helpful, but I need to get home ASAP”
You nod and look around.
“Honestly, I don’t really know… The only reason I'm even here is to get the new drink,” you nod towards Starbucks.
“Wait, they have a new one! I asked and they said no!” the man cried.
“When has Starbucks ever not had a new drink?” you retort, narrowing your eyes.
The man pauses. “True true”
“Do you wanna go with me to get it?”
“OMG! Yes”
You smile and start walking with him.
“What's your name girl-pop?” the man asks.
“(y/n)”
“I’m Remy but my bitches just call me Rem,” Remy says.
“Do you actually have any bitches?”
“No, but if I did, that's what they would call me”
“Ah…”
Both of you reach Starbucks and order the drink. When he is finished, you order him an Uber so he can get home, but before he leaves, he snatches your phone out of your hand and gives you his number.

The framed fate of two twins
Sanders sides soulmate au: In this universe on your sixteenth birthday the last photo you and your soulmate were both in will be sent to you framed and when you first touch it will reveal the picture (And that picture can be updated to the most recent picture).
Ships: Prinxiety and Dukeceit (Yeah that poll I did was a joke, I was going to do both along)
Warnings: Remus being himself, soulmate au, mild angst, (Let me know if I need to add anything)
Word count: 3129
Remus and Roman were about as different as twins could get from each other, Roman was in the drama club and well liked by practically everyone as he was charming, witty and not to be shallow but very good looking.
Remus had always been a problematic guy, he liked to fool around and break rules, he wasn’t bad, just chaotic. Plus there were people who admired his bold and outgoing nature.
Despite their differences there was one thing the brothers had in common, they could not wait for their sixteenth birthday to find out who their soulmate was. After hearing their parents' story of meeting each other they both desperately wanted to know who their soulmates were. The idea of having the special someone to share secrets and love with made them both giddy with joy.
Soon enough it was their sixteenth birthday and both of them made plans for the day, Roman invited some of his theater club friends and they all chipped in so they could go to the local community theaterhouse to watch ‘The Neverending Story’. While Remus asked Janus to go to a R rated movie with him then they’d go look at some wall murals downtown.
Remus was on cloud nine knowing he’d get to know who his soulmate was that nightstand couldn’t stop talking about it, not that Janus minded, he always thought Remus was adorable when he was excited. Remus hardly payed attention to the movie and when they stopped to take pictures together in front of the mural, in the back of his mind he thought it wouldn’t be so bad if saw one the photos he took with Jan in the frame, but out of all the people on earth what were the chances it would be him. Remus didn’t know Math isn't his strong suit but he could hope.
Roman meanwhile was to put it lightly, a complete stressed mess. He couldn’t stop thinking that he’d get to see who his soulmate was that night and he was going a mile a minute snapping pictures of everyone in the group and everyone passing by because according to him “What if I walk by them today and don’t realize it Patton!” It took Patton the whole walk to the theater to calm Roman down with his promise that the stars wouldn’t doom Romna to be alone forever and once he met his soulmate they’d be perfect for eachother, Roman could only hope.
Both brothers arrived home just before dinner was to be served and they’re mom couldn’t stop saying how happy she was for them and that they weren’t her little baby boys anymore while their dad patted both of his sons on the back and told him he was happy for them.
After dinner they all shared a chocolate cake that their mom baked herself, then it was time for them to open the packages that came addressed to them that afternoon when the mail man arrived. They all sat down in the living room, both brothers shaking in anticipation as they were handed the wrapped packages. Remus and Roman didn’t hesitate as they both messily tore off the wrapping paper then opened the lid of the boxes to find two identical frames in the box.
Both twin’s hands reached down in the box and grabbed the frames which instantly lit up to reveal the pictures hidden. Remus’s picture was the selfie he and Janus took earlier that day downtown in front of a mural called while Roman’s was the cast and crew photo from the show he had closed at school a few days ago, Beauty and the Beast.
The brothers were stunned quietly as their parents began yelling happily but neither responded to the yelling.
Remus was thrilled, his best friend was his soulmate but did Janus like Remus that way? What if they weren’t meant to be? What if he ended up losing Janus as a soulmate and best friend? What if it was a mistake? Millions of questions flooded Remus’s brain all at once, and Remus had no answers.
Roman was puzzled, His soulmate had to have been in the picture but then which person in the picture was his soulmate? I couldn’t have been Patton or any of his other friends he was with that day since he took many other pictures with them that day. So that narrowed it down to at least a dozen other people in the photo, but then who was it?
— Timeskip, to the next day at school —
That morning both brothers came to school with a purpose, to talk/find their soulmate. Remus texted Janus before class to meet up at their favorite spot behind the bleachers at the football field during lunch. That is when he planned to tell Janus that he was his soulmate, until then all he could do was hope, which felt like all he had been doing lately.
Roman on the other hand was as busy as a bee playing detective trying to find out who his soulmate could be, before school and in between his classes he took selfie after selfie with the cast and crew of the recent school play but the picture in the frame remained the same picture. In fact Roman almost gave up when he was rushing to the cafeteria to meet with Patton for lunch class when suddenly someone crashed into him and knocked his phone out of his hands.
Both Roman and the person he walked into fell to the floor in the hallway with a grunt.
“Oh I’m sorry.” Roman started to gather the belongings scattered across the floor. “I wasn’t looking where-.” Silence woke up mid Roman’s sentence when he looked at the person he crashed into. Then all time seemed to fall still.
The person Roman crashed into was dressed darkly in ripped jeans and a hoodie that looked to be hand sewn, his hair was dyed purple and he had dark circles under his eyes that could have been makeup with how dark they were. The person blushed as he looked up and met Roman’s gaze and quickly scooped up his stuff and speed walked away from Roman, leaving Roman there on the floor unsure of what had just happened.
Once Roman collected him and his belongings he began walking much slower to the cafeteria checking his phone on the way. Once he finished checking his instagram notifications he decided to clear up some memory in his phone by deleting a few of the many pictures he had taken that day, trying to find his soulmate.
When he opened the app he saw a photo of the guy and him he had chase into, he must have accidentally clicked the photo button while he was falling, the angle wasn’t very flattering but he could clearly make out the features of the guy, that’s when something clicked together in Roman’s head, that guy was on costume’s crew for Beauty and the Beast.
His name was Virgil and Roman had talked to him before when they were on a five and he needed his sizes for his Lumiere costume, but could it be?
Before Roman could properly understand what he was doing he reached for the frame stuffed down into his backpack and compared the image in it to the one on his phone, they were an exact match. Which could only mean one thing, Roman had found his soulmate.
— Meanwhile with Remus —
Remus couldn’t focus on what was happening around him, the shadeness from under the bleachers, the taste of hot and spicy chips in his mouth or the sound of Janus ranting about how a kid in his Science class Logan was such a teacher’s pet and always reminded the teacher about their homework.
Normally Remus would laugh and crack a few jokes but now he was just silently pondering to himself, he was sitting right next to his soulmate right now and Janus didn’t realize it. He hated to admit it but he wanted Janus, he wanted to kiss his vitiligo coated face and protect his smile and laugh forever. But then what if Janus ran away and got freaked out, I mean Janus knew he could be a bit much but that never stopped Janus from being his very best friend so why would that stop him from being his soulmate. Things would never be the same if he told Janus.
“Earth to Remus, are you even listening to me?” Janus shouted in his ear bringing Remus out of his head and back into the real world.
“Yeah I’m listening.” Remus flashed his toothy grin but Janus looked unconvinced.
“Yup, something’s wrong.” Janus narrowed his eyes at Remus, as if trying to see through him to figure out what was the matter.
“With you?” Remus tried to redirect the conversation away from himself.
“No, you.” Janus moved closer to Remus and Remus felt like he would have combusted right then and there on the spot.
“You've been really quiet, which is highly unusual for you.” Janus stated in a tone of voice that reminded Remus of a lawyer. “Does this have anything to do with you finding out your soulmate last night?”
Maybe Janus was some undercover law school student because he always seemed to put two and two together and know what was going on. Remus knew he had to do it, he just couldn’t hold it inside anymore plus Janus’s birthday would be in a few months so he’d find out on his own sooner or later so Remus just had to tell him.
“Janus.” Remus started “I need to tell you something important.”
“Did you finally commit a felony and need me to represent you in court?” Janus mockingly asked but Remus didn’t laugh, that is what told Janus that this was serious and he sat still waiting for Remus to continue talking.
“So… I did find out my soulmate and I do think I like them, romantically.” Remus hated the way the sophisticated words sounded coming from him but he didn’t know how else to put it without sounding like a creepy stalker.
“Well then who is it Re?” Janus gently asked but something in his head was telling him he knew who it was but he couldn’t believe that voice, it was best not to get his hopes up too high, that’s what he had been telling himself for weeks before Remus’s birthday.
Remus groaned into his hands “It’s so weird to say.” Remus whined.
“Say it.” Janus urged “I double dog dare you to say it.” Janus smirked knowing Remus never said no to a dare.
“Ok, fine, it’s you ok, I saw the selfie we took yesterday at the mural in the picture frame!” The words came out of Remus’s mouth in a tizzy and Remus couldn’t get anything else out of his mouth so he just sat there looking down at the ground listening to the silence of Janus.
Janus almost felt his eyes bulge out his socket out of every emotion that ran through his head at once, first came shock, then bewilderment, then finally rejoice. He was Remus’s soulmate so that meant Remus was his soulmate.
“I’m sorry.” Janus said in such a melancholy voice that it almost sounded depressed. And Remus almost had to mentally kick himself to get himself to respond.
“What?” Remus looked up to see Janus’s eyes down on the ground now.
“I’m sorry that you got stuck with me as your soulmate.” Janus sunk in his seat as he spoke.
“No, don’t you pretend to not know how incredibly amazing and sexy you are.” Remus’s hand went up to Janus’s chin and pulled his face up to look at his.
“Stop Remus.” Janus giggled and flustered at Remus’s comment; this made Remus feel more confident so he decided it was time to ask him.
“Janus, would you like to be my Boyfriend?”
Janus took a pause, a pause that made Remus grow tense again, what if he said no?
“What’s the dowry?” Janus purred and Remus could help the chuckle he let out.
“Whatever I have in my pockets and…the last photo on my camera reel?”
“I accept.” Janus replied putting both of his hands on Remus’s neck drawing them closer together.
It was meant to be, they were meant to be, they both knew it for sure as their lips met in a passionate first kiss. Remus’s hands cupping Janus’s face and Janus’s hands on Remus’s shoulders.
Well Remus was right, things wouldn’t ever be the same after that.
— And now we’re back with Roman —
It was Roman’s last class of the day, theater. Which should have made Roman happy but he was too busy wallowing in self pity to be happy about his favorite class. He had tried to talk to Virgil twice that day but every time he messed up and ended up running away.
The first time during lunch he almost walked up to Virgil but then the person Virgil had been sitting with spotted him and Roman panicked.
Then the second time after lunch on his way to his fourth period he spotted Virgil in the hall and tried to introduce himself but ended up saying “Hi, I’m Roman numeral.” Where did that even come from?
After that attempt Roman became even more stressed out, fearing he had already made his own soulmate hate him. To make the situation even worse he had his Theater period with Virgil so he was just sitting in his seat in the auditorium trying not to look at Virgil.
Perfect, just perfect.
Since it was the first class after they closed their show the teacher had a small party planned where they pretty much got to eat snacks and talk with each other all period. Roman tried to sit at his own desk and focus on one of his latest passion projects but he just found himself fantasizing about Virgil. How the universe had planned for them to be together but was making it so difficult for Roman to talk to him without sounding like a complete brain dead moron.
Roman was so busy mentally scolding himself that he almost missed the tap on his shoulder. When he looked up from his paper he saw Virgil standing next to him.
“Hey…” Virgil rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, he took a deep breath then asked Roman “Do you think we can talk for a minute?”
Roman’s mouth felt dry as sand in the desert but when he nodded his head in response he felt like something was gnawing at his stomach.
“Ok.” Virgil began to walk away from the isle where Rpman was sitting then motioned for Roman to follow him. Roman got up not bothering to grab his things and followed Virgil to a secluded part of the Auditorium where no one else was.
Roman already started scripting out an apology in his head, for being annoying or whatever Virgil was going to be mad at him for. Which really was a shame because Roman honestly wished Virgil felt the same and that they would live happily ever after but maybe fate was wrong.
Virgil stood against the wall while Roman stood about two feet in front of him. Roman swallowed trying to regain some of the moisture in his mouth then he tried to speak.
“I-I’m…I’m sorry about-.” Roman tried to gather his thoughts into a sentence but so much wanted to come out all at once and none of it sounded right.
“Listen, Roman…I know I’m your soulmate.” Virgil’s eyes avoided Roman’s and the blush was obvious even behind what looked to be a layer of white foundation.
Roman’s mind went blank for a few milliseconds, trying to remember if he was daydreaming or if this was actually happening and after he concluded this was really happening he realized Virgil knew that they were each other's soulmates.
“My birthday was a few months ago…” Virgil explained. “I’ve honestly kind of always had a crush on you but I’ve always been too nervous to actually talk to you. But during the closing show on Sunday I heard some of the other actor’s talking and one said it was going to be your birthday on wednesday, so I guess I figured you found out, right?”
“Yes! I-I did.” Roman was now practically vibrating with anticipation, he had no clue what Virgil was going to say next, was he going to ask Roman out? Was he hearing all of this right or was he just crazy? No, Roman was definitely hearing things right. But that meant his soulmate was in love with him, so what did that mean for them now?
“So…would you be interested in meeting up with me tomorrow after school, for coffee, as in a date?” Virgil's smile made an appearance on his face and Roman smiled back.
“I’d be delighted too.” Roman beamed at Virgil and Virgil beamed back.
The both just stood there for a moment lost in the moment with each other, looking into the others eyes. Roman was lost in Virgil’s brown eyes, they were an enchanting display of dark brown with flecks of gold shining in them. But then the school bell jolted them out of the moment and they both jumped out of surprise.
“I’ll see you tomorrow after school.” Virgil excused himself walking past Roman but as he walked past Roman felt the press of lips on his cheek for but a second then it disappeared along with Virgil from his line of sight.
Roman touched the place on his cheek where Virgil kissed and felt himself swoon in bliss. He really just got a date with his soulmate and a kiss.
Ok, so maybe today wasn’t so bad.
— After school —
Both brothers arrived home in great moods, for once not arguing on the car ride home and when their mother asked how their day was they both replied in unison “Perfect.”
Author’s note: So this was my first attempt at a soulmate au fanfiction, I think I did pretty well, but please let me know what you think and maybe I’ll do another soulmate Sander sides fanfiction at some point again soon. Thank you for reading.

That moment when you’re writing a fic and your graphic designer brain goes “But what if…”. So now you have a video for a fanfic you are nowhere close to completing.
But hey. Here’s a video.
(Promise Janus is not as villainous as he seems here. He’s just making some very dumb decisions.)
Sanders Sides Superhero AU
Yes, there is sound. You may want to turn down your headphones a bit.

I know everyone’s theorising a really epic transformation of Logan turning into orange
but wouldn’t it be fun if he just appeared without a neck tie one day and started guiding Thomas to do random violence but still trying to make it seem logical, like.
“Thomas I know right now it may seem a little illogical right now but I’m sure it will aid you in the future”
“Logan, you’re literally asking Thomas to push someone into a busy road for” checks notes “Taking too long too long to order coffee, WTF is up with you?!”
“Do you only see the disadvantages? By doing this one simple action it will ensure Thomas will start work 5% quicker every day” A malice infected smile slid onto his face “Plus there’s no witnesses and it’s a rather busy intersection I guarantee the driver won’t be concentrating on us at all. The only thing they will put together is that a man rather stupidly stumbled in-front of a moving car”
As soon as Virgil saw that smile that seemed so alien on Logan’s usually stoic face he knew that something was universally wrong as if he was in the wrong dimension but wasn’t until he finally risked a look at his attire when the terror really gripped him,
The neck tie
Logan’s pride possession
was gone.
See what I mean that would be amazingly fun!!!

Sanders Sides fic idea:
Janus, Logan, or Virgil (writer's choice!) teaching female!Reader how to waltz. Why? Because Roman's planning his birthday in the Mind Palace, and it's bound to be extra.
Authors note: This short fic will be about Janus but I would love to write about Logan and Virgil later on so if you want it just send me an ask or leave a comment (P.S, sorry this took a little while lol)
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
Janus and you were trying to cook dinner for the other sides. Keyword: trying.
The reason you both weren’t getting very far was due to the amount of blatant romantic tension that was going on between the both of you. At least, it was blatant to the other sides.
You and Janus just couldn’t seem to pick up on the thick, romantic tension between the both of you. You just wrote it off as having imagined the tension due to the fact you just couldn’t wrap your head around the idea of Janus reciprocating your feelings towards him.
Which frustrated the other sides more than Remus (which is a very rare accomplishment so good job?). This has been going on for months now and today was no exception.
“No, that’s not how you bread the chicken. Here let me show you.”
Janus said before stepping behind you and wrapping his hands around your torso and taking your hands with his. His soft hands guiding yours, the warmth of his chest against your back, his face right on your shoulder. All of these things made your heart race and your cheeks heat up, making it hard to concentrate on the task at hand. You could’ve sworn he stopped guiding your hands to bread the chicken and was instead caressing them.
Janus opened his mouth to say something when he suddenly jerked away from you at the sound of Romans loud voice coming from behind you.
“Watch out, lovebiiirds! The noblest Roman comin’ through!” He announces in his overly dramatic fashion like usual, making his way between the two of you, which effectively ruined the moment between the both of you.
You quickly tried to hide the fact you were flustered beyond belief and cleared your throat in an attempt to clear my head.
“Oh we-we’re not-.. it’s not like-” You attempted to keep your usual sarcastic attitude up up but failed miserably. That was before Janus interrupted while focusing on washing his hands before putting his gloves back on.
“Love how you just barge in so dramatically, Roman.” Janus said in his obviously sarcastic voice, and with clear annoyance, but Roman couldn’t seem to catch on to that.
“Oh thank you! I’ve been told to tone it down a bit but cmon! Who doesn’t love my dramatic self!” Roman said with his dramatic arm gestures that you had to dodge. Janus rolled his eyes in annoyance and looked down sassily at his gloves as he fixed the buttons on them.
“I can think of a few people.” Janus mumbled under his breath but Roman must’ve heard him as he whipped his head towards the deceitful side and raised an eyebrow at him.
“Excuse yo-.”
“So Roman, any reason why you came to talk with us?” You exclaimed in a loud manner to get his attention back and stopping the brewing argument. It seemed to work as Roman then turned to me and a smile replaced his offended look.
“Oh yeah! Soooo, because my birthday is coming up, I decided to host a formal dance! Yknow like waltzing and everything. Here’s an invitation.”
He was talking quiet loud again and summoned a very glittery, bright card to shove into your hands. He then walked away in a dramatic fashion while wiggling his fingers at you both and said in a teasing tone, “Byeeee, don’t be late lovebirds!!” He finished off with a wink before strutting away. Roman calling you both ‘lovebirds’ made you flush red yes but then you realized. You have no clue how to dance.
You sighed as you opened the invitation, looking down at it in slight annoyance over the fact you didn’t know how to dance.
“Hey, you ok?”
Janus’ voice snapped you out of your own thoughts and you looked up at him, seeing a worried look etched onto his face.
“I know Roman can be a lot at times but you shouldn’t let that…theater diva get to you.”
He said with a slight smirk at the name he called Roman. You let out an airy chuckle and look at him with a slightly mischievous face.
“First of, you’re a diva too..” You said tauntingly and cut him off before he could retaliate. “…and second, it isn’t Roman’s fault I felt a little..disappointed you could say.”
“…Disappointed? Why would you feel like that?” He asked with a tilt of his head. He moved slightly closer to you as he said this and as you looked up at him, you couldn’t help but think he resembled a puppy. This made you crack a smile as you motioned to the card.
“Well it’s a formal dance and…I can’t dance.” Sheepishly, you rubbed the back of your neck at admitting this. While you started to get lost in your own thoughts, you heard Janus give his most dramatic and most exaggerated sighs of all time.
“Oh wow you beat your ‘dramatic sigh’ personal record.” A small smirk settling on your face as you said this. Janus just continued giving you his signature sassy look and sighed once more before speaking.
“You’re the one being dramatic here. I could easily teach you how to dance. Specifically waltzing. It’s not the end of the world that you don’t know how.”
You looked at him for any sign that he was lying to you but nope he was being one hundred percent serious about that. He even gave you that look that made you realize he was not lying in the slightest.
“You..know how to waltz? I’m both not and very surprised.”
He rolled his eyes, trying to fight the small smile making its way onto his face. He grabbed your hand with his gloves ones and pulled you into the living room, turning around to face you once you got there. You raised an eyebrow as he pulled you in closer to him by your waist, trying your best to stop the blush from creeping up to your face.
“W-wait, right now? What about dinner?” You said in a confused tone as Janus lifted one of your hands, making you instinctively place your free hand on his shoulder. He shrugged and made a face that said, ‘we’ll deal with that later.’”
“Now, I want you to take one step forward with your left foot ok?” He said as he guided you by the waist. After stepping on his polished dress shoes a couple of times, you both managed to settle into a nice rhythm. You even managed to do it without having to look down at your feet.
The waltz felt beautiful. Both of you ignored the world around you as you could only concentrate on one another. The waltz wasn’t very graceful or professional but it was imbued with the passion the both of you held for one another as you continued to spin around the living room.
You couldn’t help but get lost in the moment as you continued the dance. Your eyes grazed over his appearance, specifically the snake half of his face. His slit pupil, the pink around his eye, the smooth scales running down his face to his neck disappearing down into his dress shirt. You’re chest swelled up with love at the fact you were sharing this intimate moment with him. One where it was just the two of you and no one else. One where, even if you both weren’t saying anything, the waltz clearly spelled out what you felt about each other.
A sly smirk settled on his face as he saw you basically checking him out, failing to hide the deep passion he held for you in his eyes. This in turn made him pull you in even closer as you until both of your chests were touching. Due to this you both came to a slow stop to just stare into each others eyes. His breath was intertwining with yours from how close you were and his eyes were drinking in your appearance.
You felt your heart practically stop as you saw him lean in closer to your face. This couldn’t be happening, right? You’re just imagining his eyes glancing from your eyes to your lips, right? Once you realized this was all very real, all other thoughts calm to a screeching halt in your mind as all you could focus on was the sincerity and love in his eyes. You took your time leaning in wanting this moment to as long as possible.
You could practically feel his soft lips grazing yours when, not surprisingly, all of the sides barged into the room as if it was on queue. The sudden sound of all the sides talking all at once made both you and Janus jump away from each other as if you were burned.
“We absolutely cannot take a dog off the street, Patton. You don’t know where it’s been, if it’s someone else’s, if it’s been vaccinated-”
“But Logan! That dog needs a home and did you see his face!? He needs love.”
“Patton we’ve been over th- REMUS GET DOWN FROM THERE!”
“OK IF YOU SAY SO.”
“NOT HEAD FIRST-”
“I’m going to my room you all give me a headache.”
“I give you a headache!? IM LITERALLY THE ONLY ONE NOT YELLING.”
“You are now, stupid.”
“HEY DONT SINK OUT ON ME JACK SMELLINGTON.”
Janus once more groaned in annoyance and had to pinch his nose in order to not lash out at everyone (and also to hide his flushed face) while you simply just snickered at all the havoc going on.
You moved closer to Janus and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, successfully getting his attention.
“We can continue what we started once we finish the food.”
A little cheeky smile made its way to his face and he nodded as you both made your way to the kitchen, getting ready to have to spray Remus with soap in order to keep him from adding random objects to the meal.

Anthropophobia
One-shot
Ao3
Every human knew the tales and legends of the mighty beasts that roamed the oceans, luring sailors closer and then murdering them in a violent rage.
As it turned out, Sirens also knew about humans. The tiny creatures that showed up everywhere with their uncanny little faces, and tiny eyes, and their general unsettling nature. If only anthropophobia was less common.
Anthropophobia- the fear of humans.
Virgil ran through the streets, hearing guards shouting behind him. He grimaced, imagining them catching up and arresting him. He ran through a crowd and took an unplanned turn towards the docks. The guards hadn’t caught up yet
He untied a small boat that had sat unused for months; no one would miss it any more than they’d miss him.
Virgil knew it was risky to take a boat, even if there were no siren sightings nearby. But, he had to get away. He’d take brutal but instantaneous death over getting arrested and wasting away in a cell for the rest of his days.
He rowed for a while, his food piled up on the other side of the boat. He could hear nothing but bird calls and the rippling waves as he moved the oars. And then suddenly the underlying panic that was always present in his mind disappeared, leaving only the want to follow the feeling reaching out to him. What was that sound…?
He rowed closer and closer, not thinking about how strange this was, how suspicious this was. He snapped out of it only when the song stopped, when he was unnervingly close to a pair of eerily large eyes, with no whites to them. Virgil knew that just a few metres below the water was a mouth with far too many teeth.
He felt himself go pale, suddenly feeling lightheaded. He looked around him; how far had he sailed? His boat was probably small enough for the beast to hold it in its hands
He shuddered as that assumption was proved correct, and the siren raised its upper body out of the water, two cupped hands under his boat and raising him closer to its face, giving him a perfect view of their sharp teeth and the way it was grinning. One of its hands curled around the boat and started tilting it, the other hand below.
Virgil tumbled out, too panicked to even think of holding on. This instantaneous death was not being very instantaneous. The monster made a series of noises that Virgil had no hope of interpreting, as Virgil lay in their hand.
He was trembling harder than he ever thought possible, staying as still as he could. It prodded him with one finger, gentler than he thought it could but still hard enough to hurt, and he scrambled away from the hand, unfortunately meeting the fingers of the hand he was in as he bumped into them
He glanced down to the water, would it be worth it to jump down and try to swim away? He saw for a moment that his boat was dropped and overturned in the water and his food was floating around before a huge hand showed up in front of him fast enough that he flinched harder than ever before. He doubted he could outswim a giant sea creature anyway.
It was making noise, presumably speaking in the garbled language. Far too loud, he thought, as his stress headache doubled.
He hoped it wouldn’t sing again any time soon, he quite liked having control over his movements. It was trying to block him away from the edges of its palm, similarly to how one would do with a bug.
The comparison made him nauseous as he recognised that he was that small compared to it. He was maybe only three inches compared to it, all too small, and far too fragile. He stood up, though was immediately knocked off of his feet as the siren shifted slightly
He looked at its face, finding it almost too big to look at it all.
He felt himself go even paler as a second pair of eyes opened beneath its normal ones. It brought him close enough that he could feel its breath ruffling his clothes. He shuddered.
It’s other hand lifted up, starting to cover him from the sky, like the motion to trap a firefly. The hands closed around him, leaving him completely in the dark and cold.
He could immediately tell when the giant took him underwater, even without the little bits of water starting to fill up the space between the two hands. They both stayed underwater for about ten seconds of dizzying motion, and then he was somewhat-gently deposited on a large rock shelf above a pool of water that looked hundreds of feet deep.
He backed away, still trembling. The siren had pulled itself out of the water mostly, and sat on a ledge in the cave, as though it hadn’t just kidnapped him. In this lighting, he noticed that it had ‘little’ glowing green patterns decorating its skin, blending in with the dull green skin
He sat down in a corner, watching the beast intensely. It came closer after a while, using one of its giant claws to scratch something into the stone.
Were those runes? It tapped the runes once they were finished being scratched into the stone, and a clear sphere started to form around the ledge. Virgil tapped it to test if it was dangerous and found that it was similar to glass.
He didn’t like this. He didn’t like this at all. It was still speaking, though muffled a bit now. It ducked under the water and swam away. Virgil looked for a way out, denying himself any tears to fall.
Nothing. Nothing at all. He hit the ‘glass’ with a fist, sitting down again. Why was he the exception to the fact that sirens usually murdered any human they saw? Why did he have to get trapped, the one thing he was trying to avoid?
He curled up in the corner. His prison was quite expansive, perhaps the size of a small house, but it was still a prison. He glared at everything in this cave, every single collected thing, every shiny thing on every ledge. One thing was screaming in his mind: that he was just another collected thing to the giant.
It came back a few minutes later, emerging from the water with speed that he could barely comprehend. Its hands were filled with plants that looked like they were from land, even though they were soaking wet. He came closer curiously, and looked at the strange handful- was that a whole bush?
His bewilderment overtook his fear for a brief moment, until it looked at him again, two pairs of eyes locked onto him.
He skittered back, heart beating so fast it might explode. What was even going on right now? He groaned, pushing his head into his hands and sliding down the rock wall to sit on the floor. It was still watching
It reached through the barrier as if it was not there, which it definitely was, and placed the bushes and soft leaves in the prison with him.
After a few days, Virgil still had no idea what was actually happening. The uncertainty was eating him alive. He had rearranged the plants in his prison, to give himself a hiding place. They were thick enough that he couldn’t see the siren through them, and therefore it couldn’t see him.
Sometimes it would sing to itself. Virgil hated those times. He didn’t even think it knew it was luring him from his hiding spot, it usually noticed him only after a while, stopping singing to speak to him (or at him- it wasn’t like he could understand)
He still couldn’t get over the fear. It was so big, so fast, so loud. He spent most of the time cowering in the corner, staring at the wall. His eyes had adjusted to the dark well
He peeked out from behind the bushes and watched the siren swim out of the cave system. It usually brought him food when it did that. He stood up shakily, once again inspecting his prison for any faults, anything he could use to escape. Once again, nothing.
His knuckles had become bruised by how much he had punched the magic glass when he got frustrated with his captivity. The siren was back soon, nothing in its hands. Suspicious. Virgil went back to his hiding spot.
Another siren was behind it, this one more red in colour. Virgil shuddered. There was a tapping on the glass, accompanied by some words that Virgil couldn’t understand. He knew that this meant it wanted him to leave his hiding spot, and that if he didn’t, it’d reach in and get him anyway.
He wasn’t coming out. Willingly showing yourself to a siren was a death sentence. He could feel the siren's hand getting closer until it wrapped around him, lifting him through the glass. He was still trembling every time it got near him.
It presented him to the red one with some dramatic gestures that made him dizzy. Its hand uncurled, leaving him sitting on its palm. The red one let out a shriek that Virgil was sure made his ears bleed, as it catapulted itself backward
Virgil covered his ears and squeezed his eyes shut. The hand he was sitting on was shaking, as he heard what he assumed was laughter from the green siren. His legs had drawn up to his chest, and he laid on his side as he tried to erase that noise from his mind
He could hear Red saying something, not entirely shrieking now, but not not shrieking. He wanted to leave- to go somewhere else, anywhere else.
It didn’t matter that he couldn’t go home, he could go somewhere else, and start a new life- except he couldn’t. He was trapped in the clutches of a giant siren, and there was no way he’d ever be able to escape the underwater tunnels without drowning.
Green prodded his side and Virgil curled up more.
He was placed in the prison again soon enough. The moment, the shriek, replayed in his mind over and over again as he stared into the darkness hours later
It reminded him of when a school child would find a spider in the grass and show their friends to freak them out. He had never thought about how it would feel to the spider, to be at the mercy of giants so much larger, to deal with the loud screaming and the complete lack of control. He wondered how many spiders had been traumatised by those school shenanigans.
The siren was under the waves, like it was for a lot of the day, but he could still see the glowing. He closed his eyes, but no sleep crept up on him.
He stared up. Was that what was happening? Were humans the spiders to sirens? He thought for a while
It would explain Red’s reaction maybe, and why sirens went into what seemed like murderous rage. Maybe it was just like when someone saw a spider and started panicking. He had certainly seen people go into what could be described as a murderous rage when seeing a spider.
So, why did they lure humans? He thought of his interactions with Green, how it would sing to itself and be surprised when he was drawn closer. His blood ran cold.
They didn’t know . They didn’t know their own power. The thing they were known for . He thought about all the casualties of siren song and he uttered the first word he said in days
“I’m sorry”
A single tear ran down his cheek and he looked around the cave. Of course he had to be found by the type of person who would keep a spider in a jar as a pet. Well, at least until it forgets about him. He wondered how long that would take; weeks? Months? Years? He would rather it happen sooner than later
He didn’t want to form a messed up attachment to his captor before it eventually forgot about him
He curled up behind the bush and waited for it to wake up.
Remus had been relaxing just above water for his daily fix of oxygen and sunlight, singing to himself as he slowly swam around.
A human floated into view a little while later. It hadn’t noticed him yet, and so he stopped singing, dipping his head further down into the water until only his eyes were above water. Well, at least his primary eyes; he didn’t need to see details just yet
It froze when it noticed him. Remus was wondering what it would feel like to be bitten by something so small. Roman said that it hurt.
He scooped the little guy up in its little boat. He wondered what it was seeing; an incomprehensible being? Was it feeling unimaginable terror? He grinned at the idea, though knew it was unlikely. Humans were too small for thoughts like that
He tilted the boat to get the human out, and it tumbled out, further than he expected. It laid unmoving for a few seconds in which Remus thought he might’ve accidentally killed it. That would’ve been disappointing, he decided, since he wanted to keep it as a pet.
He nudged it with his fingertip and watched as it scuttled back. That tickled.
It got closer to the edge and Remus dropped the boat and brought his other hand up to guard it away
“Woah there, little guy! If you fall off here you’re gonna die choking on water with no escape! I’m the better option, don’t you think?” He grinned, rambling a bit.
It stared up at him, and he opened his secondary eyes, bringing it closer. It was so small . Roman would be terrified, he realised, grinning harder.
So would most of his friends.
Remus gently placed his hand over his other one and tried to make sure no water would get in between them. He ducked underwater and swam home, placing the little guy on a ledge in the part of the cave above water and scratching some runes so it would have a place to stay.
He looked at it for a few seconds. It was empty, too empty to keep an animal in there.
The human looked up at him. He thought for a moment; what kind of plants grew where humans lived? Pretty much any plants from land would work, right? He set off to find some as the little guy explored the enclosure
He found some soft plants on an island nearby, and uprooted them to take to his new pet. It was a creepy little thing, like most humans, and immediately started moving the plants to create a little hide-away. Remus had always found humans strangely cute, in a way that made his brother extremely annoyed. Roman had never liked it when he brought humans home from his wanderings.
They were just so small, and pretty docile if they weren’t feeling threatened. Remus had heard a lot of people say that they were more scared of people than people were of them, and he had always wondered how much truth that held
He knew a lot of people who were downright terrified of the tiny little creatures. He wondered why humans always got so close to sirens if they were so afraid, but he didn’t dwell on it.
A few days later, he had begun to get very attached to the little creature. It stayed hidden a lot, only coming out when it was fed, and occasionally when he was singing or humming to himself. He named it Creepy, because it fit the description, primarily, but also because it would annoy his brother tremendously.
He suddenly remembered the fact that he hadn’t shown Creepy to his brother yet and grinned, swimming through his tunnels as fast as physically possible and towards his brother's cave.
“Roman! Roman! I need to show you my new pet! You’ll love it” he grinned, holding back a laugh
Roman sceptically followed him until they got back to the cave. Remus saw Creepy hide behind the plants and he got closer, tapping on the barrier and waiting for it to come out like usual, but it didn’t.
“Come on out, lil’ guy”
He reached in and grabbed it gently and dramatically presented it to his brother
“Ta da! My new pet!” He uncurled his hand and watched his brother’s reaction intently
The reaction was even worth the resulting scream. He laughed, bringing Creepy towards his chest and looking back up at Roman
“Remus! Why would you do that!? You know I’m scared of them!” His eyes were looking up at him and back down to the human like he was scared it was gonna leap at him
Remus looked down at Creepy, who had curled up like it did when nervous.
“Aw, look, you scared it! Say sorry,” he said, half teasingly, gently prodding Creepy’s side
“I scared it?” Roman asked, tone disbelieving “If anything, it should apologise to me! Or at the very least, you should” he crossed his arms, secondary eyes widening to show his mistrust
Remus shook his head, placing Creepy back into the enclosure and turning back to Roman as Creepy scuttled back to its hiding spot
“I mean, if you still fall for that, it’s on you. I’ve been pulling the same prank since we were kids” he shrugged and grinned
Roman glared at him, but didn’t argue
“I just don’t get how you can find that thing cute enough to be a pet,” he grumbled.
Remus shook his head, placing Creepy back in the enclosure.
“Oh, come on! How can you be scared of that little face!”
Roman stared at him. “I don’t know, they just show up everywhere and they just give me the creeps, ok?”
They talked for a while, before Roman inevitably left
Remus placed some food in the enclosure and ducked under the water to his bed. He wondered what Creepy was thinking about the situation.
He yawned, and fell asleep, head tucked into his arm.
When he woke up, the thing he did was swim outside for his daily dose of sunlight and basked in the light for about an hour, until the light got too much for him. Then he started swimming around.
The smaller fish avoided him mostly, but they were still annoying. He snuck a peek at one of the nearby islands, finding a lot of boats and a few humans.
Humans tended to be in groups of two or more, he noticed; was his human gonna get lonely? He thought about his human, pushing away the thought of how killable, how squishable, it was, and thought about its behaviour. It hid most of the time. Maybe another human would get it to be less skittish?
This routine was what he did every morning.
After yet another morning of this a few weeks later, he swam back to the cave and greeted his little friend by tapping on the wall of the enclosure. It walked forward towards him and sat down in front of the barrier. Remus’ tail splashed happily and Creepy skittered back, staring at the tail. Oh, right, humans didn’t really like water
He wondered how many humans had drowned in his lifetime, and what it would feel like to drown. He couldn’t imagine it. He had found several dead humans in sunken ships (Roman refused to go near them) and he had always wondered how long it had taken them to die.
He looked at Creepy consideringly. What would happen if he threw it into the water? He shook his head, and ruffled Creepy’s hair. He wouldn’t hurt Creepy.
He started singing to distract himself from his thoughts. Oddly enough, Creepy became more alert, staring up at him with more intensity, getting closer to the barrier.
Remus tilted his head. He had noticed that his singing would sometimes make Creepy come closer, but to see the immediate shift in the behaviour was interesting. He stopped singing and watched it back away a bit
He started singing again and it once again got closer, standing up straighter and trying to get to him.
This was so cool! He grinned. He wondered if it would work on other humans than Creepy. He experimented with the singing for a while, a few hours maybe, before deciding to stop the game and do something else.
Creepy ran back to its hiding spot after they were done playing, and Remus watched it arrange the plants again to completely surround itself. Remus imagined what would happen if it would respond to his singing while it was surrounded like this. It would probably catch its skin on one of the pointier branches and die a bleeding, painful death. It was a good thing he stopped, he decided
Humans were always so fascinating to him, how complexly they acted, but he was the only person he knew who had ever noticed that. Everyone else was too scared to even look at a human without screaming or trying to get rid of it.
But, Remus had always loved watching them.
A few days later, he swam out of the cave and up to the surface. He could see one human sitting on the shore of a nearby island. It froze when it saw him, and he tested his newfound ability.
Much like Creepy, it immediately changed in posture and ventured towards the water. Cool! It would even make humans go towards the water without a boat? He knew how dangerous that was, so when it got to the water he grabbed it and stopped singing.
He swam towards his cave, holding the human above water until they got close enough, then he ducked under water and swam as fast as possible through the tunnels and deposited his new human in the enclosure with Creepy.
The humans stared at each other and Remus had a sudden thought of them ripping each other apart, before they started making noises. He had heard Creepy make noise every so often, but very rarely and very quietly. He grinned.
The new human was smaller, so he named it Tiny. He watched them for hours, though they paid almost no mind to him. He wondered how it felt to be so small
Virgil hadn’t grown used to life in the cave. It had been weeks, and it had only gotten worse from then. The red one had visited semi-frequently, though practically did everything to avoid looking at him. Virgil was glad; he didn’t want to deal with even more screaming.
It still did what he called a mini-shriek if it caught sight of Virgil moving around too suddenly, or even at all. Virgil had never been able to shake the sound of the first shriek from his mind.
He shuddered. Red hadn’t come back since Green had discovered that it could draw him forward by singing. It would toy with him for hours at a time, grinning as it forced him forward, let him try to go back and bringing him forward again, until it eventually got bored.
Virgil hunched in the corner, and watched the siren swim away. He grit his teeth and started looking around the cave again. He couldn’t cry. If he admitted the hopelessness of the situation, it would only make it worse to bear.
He took a shaky breath and held his head against his knees. He was going to get away, somehow, somewhere. He was going to get out of this- he was going to get away.
The siren returned a while later, another human in its hands. They were placed behind the glass like him, and sat there seemingly in shock for a few moments. They looked around, squinting at the dark and adjusting their glasses.
“It takes a while for your eyes to adjust, you won’t see much yet,” he offered to the stranger, who seemed startled. Their eyes locked on Virgil after a few seconds of trying to find the source of his voice
“Where are we? Why did it bring me here?” The stranger had an accent to their words, one that Virgil recognised from further south on his home island
“Well, we are inside magical glass in a stupidly large cave for reasons that I only have a theory of” he offered, probably sounding bitter
“Hmm… would you mind telling me your theory? I’m working with almost no reference here” they came closer, and Virgil moved aside some plants for them to get closer to him
“You know how people are usually scared of spiders but there’s always that one person who keeps spiders in jars? Well this,” he gestured around him “is the jar”
The stranger looked at him with a contemplative look
“That implies that most sirens are scared of us,” They said after a few moments, looking at the siren, which was just there, staring at them both
“I think they are,” Virgil replied, thinking of the red siren and the unholy screech it let out at the mere sight of him.
“Think about it, how many people completely freak out when they see a spider and don’t calm down until it’s dead? That’s what sirens do!” He elaborated
“Do you have any definitive proof that they’re scared?”
Virgil once again thought about the scream.
“Just wait for the red siren to visit,” he didn’t offer any more elaboration for that statement.
They talked for hours, deliberately ignoring the giant face that was staring down at them.
The new guy was Logan, an aspiring scholar. Virgil didn’t mention his own line of work.
Virgil told him how most days were in the cave, and answered questions about the siren song situation. Logan seemed to absorb knowledge like a sponge.
The next few days were not as bad as they were alone. The green one had added more plants to the prison, and so there were more hiding spots. Logan had been subjected to the utter torture that was Green singing, stopping and singing again, which was less good, but Logan had yet to be subjected to the shrieking of Red.
Virgil had made sure to keep an eye out so Logan knew to cover his ears when the red one showed up.
Green was out of the cave at that moment, so Logan and Virgil had a precious moment to talk in peace. They weren’t talking about anything in particular, but Virgil still cherished it. He had never thought he’d miss human interaction this much.
Virgil didn’t talk much, instead he listened to Logan speak, and kept a look out for the siren returning. It was about an hour later that the green siren arrived, and Logan and Virgil went back into their hiding place.
It placed some food in their prison and started placing things on different ledges in the cave. It almost reminded him of when he would find something cool when he was on a walk and put it up in his room. He knew the comparison was pretty accurate, but he didn’t want to think about how the siren was a person.
A person who was keeping them captive for entertainment. It was easier to think of it as a monster or a beast than to recognise that it was just as sapient as him. He watched it, trying to ignore any familiar actions.
It swam towards them a few minutes later, Virgil was mostly hidden, and so was Logan, but they were peeking over the bushes to watch the siren.
It didn’t seem to notice them both, looking through the glass at different hiding spots. It gave up trying to find them and instead tapped on the glass to try get them out. It always was annoying if they didn’t eat their food immediately. He glanced at the tapping fingers with an emotion he couldn’t identify.
If it really wanted them to come out, maybe it should’ve stopped being annoying. He ducked down further and crossed his arms.
Logan looked at him with an unreadable look
“Are you okay, Virgil?” He asked, voice barely above a whisper
Virgil stayed completely still and silent. He was sick of this whole thing.
He wanted to get out. The tapping was getting quicker, louder, matching Virgil’s breath. He drew his knees up to his chest and gripped his hair in his hands. His breathing was getting worse the more he could hear the siren's insistent tapping.
Soon he could hear nothing but his own breathing, his heartbeat, and the blood rushing in his ears. Everything else was gone. He could feel movement next to him and he tried to ground himself.
It took a while for him to come to his senses, to stop hyperventilating, but when he did, he noticed Logan in front of him, holding his hands and gently talking him into calmness. Virgil smiled falteringly
“Thanks, and, uh, sorry… about that,” he mumbled lamely
Logan looked at him. Virgil felt like there was something he wasn’t telling him.
Virgil tried to peek out from behind the bushes, but Logan pulled him down
“Keep your eyes on me,” he instructed, which made Virgil only want to look out more. He had never been good at following advice from people.
“Virgil. Do not look out there. It will only send you into another panic. You’ve already hyperventilated enough that your lips are going blue, you don’t need more”
Logan’s voice was firm, but it was calming. Virgil nodded, realising that his lips did indeed feel weird. Then he realised just how lightheaded he felt. He looked at the food that was just in his line of sight. Logan followed his gaze, and looked back at him.
“I’ll get us some food, you stay here,”
Virgil resisted the urge to look out at the rest of the cave, and instead focused on Logan.
He rested his head on the stone wall behind him. This whole thing was so… fucked up. Everything was so fucked up.
He was going to live and die in a glass prison because giant monsters saw him as nothing more than a bug, or animal. He finally felt himself cry. Logan brought the food closer and Virgil noticed for a second that he glared at the siren (or sirens? He was sure he could hear more voices)
Logan didn’t ask about his crying, just wordlessly passing food. He was going to ask Logan what exactly happened whilst he was out of sorts, but later. Right now, talking didn’t seem like a viable option. He could hear splashing, muffled through the glass
He closed his eyes. He could think when he woke up, he was too tired to mope anymore.
When he woke up, Logan was behind a different bush than him, glasses askew as his face pressed against the ground. Virgil shakily stood up and looked out at the cave. He froze under the gaze of the green siren, and felt like nothing more than a deer in headlights.
His heartbeat had gone through the roof, and he felt the instinctual urge to hide, but his body did the opposite and he just stood there.
Green came closer, Virgil flinched back and his body was startled back into motion. He ran behind another bush, noticing Logan wake up. Virgil didn’t know what exactly had triggered his fear this time; he hadn’t been this scared in weeks .
Everything was amplified to him. He didn’t know anything, he had never felt more like an animal than that instance, hiding and relying on instinct. Logan approached him a little while later.
He just looked up, feeling more helpless than he had ever felt. How long had it been since he had seen the sun? How long had he been in this prison? How long would he stay there? The rest of his life? Would Logan stay there the rest of his life? He wanted to leave, he couldn’t take this anymore.
He would rather drown trying to escape than stay here. Nothing was worse than staying here. Well, staying here alone was worse, but at least now he had Logan to help him through it. Logan had sat down next to him and was whispering reassurance
Virgil could still see too-large movements outside the glass. He shuddered. He had bruises from where Green had grabbed, prodded and poked at him. He was never going to get out of this if something so big that it couldn’t even touch him gently was the thing trapping him.
He felt like he was getting worse. He felt like everything was getting worse. But most of all, he felt bad for Logan, who had yet to suffer the worst of the captivity
Remus was worried about his humans. Tiny was less skittish than Creepy, but it still hid often. They usually stayed close to each other, something he had noticed in wild humans as well. Humans liked being near other humans.
Remus wondered why Creepy was on its own to begin with, but he could never think of a reason. He came back from his daily swim and put some cool rocks around his cave, fins shaking out in happiness, before checking on the two little guys.
He had already put food in there for them.
They were obviously hiding, since he couldn’t see them, but he didn’t know where they were hiding. There were a lot of hiding places in their enclosure, to make them more comfortable and try to simulate a more natural environment for them, but that meant the times he saw them now were few and far between. He tapped the barrier, waiting for them to come out, but they didn’t.
That was weird. He tapped again, louder and faster, but there was no movement visible. Were they ok?
“Come on, little guys, come on out” he said quietly, but nothing moved. Wait- did something just move? He grinned. The little humans were still living, at least
He noticed that they still weren’t coming out. What if something was really wrong with them, and that was why they weren’t coming to the front of the enclosure? He mentally debated what he should do, and landed on singing to draw them closer.
It only drew Tiny closer, but Creepy still was hidden. Once he stopped singing, it all but ran to where it was before. If Remus really strained his eyes, he could notice a shape behind the foliage. So that was where Creepy was? Was it ok?
He swam in circles, accidentally splashing the barrier a few times. He muttered to himself with a sort of fear- what if he had accidentally neglected his pets and one of them died? His voice was probably echoing and his marks were likely glowing brighter than usual.
Remus was talking to himself now, voice getting more echoing, and marks getting brighter. He watched Tiny move across the enclosure, towards the pile of food, and start dragging it back to where Creepy was
Remus was still muttering to himself, still echoing loudly as he watched the enclosure. It was hours later that Creepy emerged from the hiding spot. Remus stared intently, noticing the way it froze under his gaze. He watched it skitter away again.
He frowned. It was back to how skittish it used to be. It had been getting better, what happened? He placed his hand on the barrier and brought his face closer, trying to spot Creepy in the mass of plants
He didn’t know what to do about the sudden behaviour change. Maybe his singing had had a negative impact on it after all?
He swam out of the cave and towards his brother’s cave. His brother, annoying as he was, was still someone he trusted with his feelings. Sometimes.
Remus could only think of every bad possibility, every gruesome thing that could happen to his pets, but Roman was often an optimist.
He burst into the cave, accidentally waking Roman up
“Woah! Remus, what the- are you okay?” Roman’s anger seemed to dissolve as he noticed Remus’s distress
Remus explained the weird behaviour to him, and watched Roman nod along with the face he made when he was thinking
“Look, I’m not gonna claim to know anything about humans, they give me the creeps, but I really don’t think that it’s anything to worry about. It’s probably just confused why you added a new human to the enclosure”
Remus nodded. He always wondered what was going on in the humans’ minds, but he knew that he would never find out exactly what they thought. Roman was probably right. Would it help if he separated them?
He brushed that thought away; changing things now would confuse it more. He breached the surface to clear his head, only to be faced with a boat full of humans. It was one of the bigger ships, the ones bigger than his head, absolutely filled with the tiny creatures.
He grinned, gently knocking into the side, careful not to make any of them fall. One of them threw something sharp at him. He knew that that’s what humans did if they were hunting, but that made Remus laugh
Was it trying to hunt him for food? He was bigger than the whole ship! He pulled the tiny object out of his face and got closer, watching the tiny little creatures run around.
He loved observing wild humans, they were so fascinating to him. He wondered why they were so close to each other, in a big crowd as he got closer. His grin grew as he looked each human up and down. They were all so different from each other.
He scooped up a few into his hand to get a better look, and felt them moving around. He laughed softly at the feeling. One of them attempted to jump off of his hand and back onto the boat, and he attempted to catch it.
He looked at the tiny body in his hand. Oops. He didn’t mean to catch it so hard, but their tiny little bodies were so fragile.
He dropped it into the water and put the others back onto the boat. They were all making a lot of noise, strangely.
He swam away, wiping the red blood off of his hand and onto a rock. He didn’t mean to do that. He swam back to his cave and checked on his humans again.
He could see them this time, though they weren’t looking at him. Creepy stayed close to Tiny, much like the humans on the boat, and he couldn’t help but compare them to the one he accidentally killed. He looked at them consideringly
What would be the least painful way to die if you were human sized? Probably not drowning, that looked like it took a while. Maybe getting squashed, that seemed pretty instantaneous, but then he thought about how it might feel to have your organs splattered across a rock. He shook his head of those thoughts and just watched them.
Nothing was really happening. He couldn’t explain the strange foreboding feeling in his mind.
Things went back to normal after a few more days. Roman came by to visit him, though once again dramatically avoided the enclosure like his life depended on it.
Remus rolled his eyes as Roman shrieked upon seeing Tiny move across the enclosure to get food.
“It’s not going to hurt you, drama queen. It’s just trying to eat,”
“Ugh! Stop teasing me, you-” he was cut off by Remus shoving him with a grin plastered across his face
“Oh, yeah, the tiny little creature is gonna get you, you should be worried that it’s gonna get past the barrier, somehow swim towards you and, I don’t know, gently bite your hand?” He teased, mock biting Roman’s hand as he tried to shove him in return.
“Stop it, Remus! I can’t help how scared I am,” Roman pouted
“But you can help screaming my ears off every time one of them moves!” He countered, grin growing
He and Roman had a mock-argument for about half an hour, one that only got partially violent, but immediately ended when Roman had to go. Just like normal.
He dramatically swam down to the bottom of his cave and lay in the darkness for a while. How well could humans see in the dark, he wondered. Probably pretty well, since they’d been fine in the cave so far.
His eyes drifted shut as he thought and he slept
Logan hated this. Well, mostly. The good part was that this presented a very unique opportunity to study sirens. Usually, sirens killed anyone who interacted with them, so not much was known about them. Now Logan had the upper hand, second only to Virgil, who had been there longer
He felt bad for Virgil. Virgil had evidently gone through something during his time in the cave, perhaps even just the effects of long-term stress, but Virgil could barely stop trembling even when they were both hidden
Virgil had some interesting hypotheses about why they were being kept, and Logan had to admit that the theories held up well as Logan observed the siren.
Concerningly, Virgil mentioned a second siren when bringing up the idea of sirens being scared. Even more concerning, Virgil turned pale at the mere mention of the red siren, which did not give Logan a lot to work with in terms of what he was actually dealing with.
Virgil constantly looked like he had never slept, which was incredibly impressive considering how much time he spent asleep. Logan thought it must’ve been the effects of stress.
When the Red siren finally showed up, Logan was sharply pulled behind a bush
“I advise you to keep your ears covered and try not to move” Virgil warned him, which intrigued Logan very much.
“I’m just going to get some food, I’ll be quick” he promised, watching Virgil curl up more and press down on his ears.
Logan went to get food, looking at Red intently. It spotted him after a few seconds of movement, both sets of eyes widening before it started shrieking. Logan flinched. So that was why Virgil told him to cover his ears.
Green and Red seemed to start arguing, shoving each other and even biting once or twice.
Logan watched with strange fascination as the sirens fought, and then as the fight immediately stopped as the red siren left. Logan’s ears hurt from the scream, but his brain hurt from the strange behaviour of the giants
He went back to his and Virgil’s designated talking bush and sat down
Virgil was silent for a few moments, while Logan looked out at the dimly lit cave.
“I think they’re siblings,” Virgil offered, strangely tonelessly. Logan didn’t have to ask to know who he was talking about
Logan thought for a while. The thought made him feel oddly nauseous, the idea that his captor had a family. He hadn’t thought about the siren's personal life before.
If Red visited more often, though, he might be able to translate a few words. He was pretty sure that Red had said ‘stop’ several times during the argument, and that would be an invaluable word to know when in this situation. He was somewhat sure that Green was not keeping them out of malice, that being backed up by his and Virgil’s observations of the situation, so he hoped that once he had the words, it would let them go
He shared his thoughts with Virgil, who did agree with the idea, but was worried it might take too long to get every word they needed correct. Logan wondered whether it was worth it, but decided on yes as he looked at just how tired Virgil seemed
It took at least a month and a half (he was pretty sure, anyway; it was hard to tell in the cave) for him to learn how to speak one word. He practised every time that Green was out of the cave. He could understand more than he could speak.
He was going to keep practising, but his vocal cords were not made for their language.
Virgil had bitten the siren a few times, which did reduce the grabbing frequency. Green had never grabbed him as much as he grabbed Virgil. He assumed that it was due to Virgil’s larger stature, and him therefore being less fragile than Logan’s smaller form.
He hummed, trying the word in his mouth again as Green left the cave
Virgil hadn’t been trying to speak, deciding that trying to speak to the giant was not his ‘style’, so to speak. Logan was pretty sure that just meant he was scared, but he didn’t say anything about that hypothesis.
It was a week later that he actually put his practice to the test, as the siren reached through the ‘glass’ to try to bring Virgil out. The panicked and pleading look from his friend was enough to convince him.
He looked into the eyes of the siren as best he could, took a deep breath and spoke
“Stop,” he said in the strange language, before gesturing to the siren’s hand, still looking to grab at Virgil
“Stop,” he repeated
Green’s eyes were all on him as he stood, trying his hardest not to look scared.
It widened its eyes, and those sharp teeth were on display as it started to speak
“What?” It asked, and Logan repeated himself once again, crossing his arms.

Sanders Sides AU - Vee's Godfather
Logicality parents, kid Virgil
Little Virgil wants to learn how to play the guitar and his dads wouldn't dream of saying no to him
Problem is, Patton knows nothing about music and Logan can only play a handful of songs on the piano
Since Vee is an anxious bean, they resort to their closest friends for his first lessons - Roman, who as it turns out only knows some chords he needed for a role, and Remus, who although incredibly talented, only knows how to put on a show, not really fit for teaching the nervous kiddo
So Logan suggests they ask his brother - and Vee's godfather - Janus
Janus is a hermit that avoids any and all social situations so Patton doesnt have high hopes about the whole thing (and that's totally the only reason why, it's not like there's bad blood between them or anything...)
Logan thinks they should give it a try regardless and it's one of the best decisions he's ever made (other than his marriage, Vee's adoption and his choice of godfather)
Aka, Janus is a nonverbal loner with a soft spot for Virgil
Let me know if you'd be interested in reading it!
(Please give credit if you'd like to use the idea)
