Today, we take a moment to celebrate a historic milestone - the anniversary of South Africa legalizing same-sex marriage. 🇿🇦🏳️‍🌈 On this remarkable day, South Africa not only became the first country in Africa to recognize love in all its forms, but also set a precedent for human rights and equality across the globe. This day serves as a reminder of the progress we've made, and the work that still needs to be done. Let's continue to fight for love, acceptance, and equality for all. Today we celebrate love, human rights, and the beautiful rainbow nation of South Africa. 🌈❤️

Yesterday, here on tumblr, someone reached out to me, seeking help. And now I am here seeking yours. I don't care about your opinions and views. The matter of the fact is that everyone deserves to be treated as human beings, and they deserve the rights of human beings as we all do.
Right now, we have a violation of the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda after its government passed one of the harshest anti-gay laws, which includes punishment by death.
Here are two Al Jazeera articles on this:
1. Displaced twice: Gay Ugandans on the run face upheaval in Kenya
2. Ugandas anti lgbtq law causing wave of rights abuses activists say
Yesterday, @annoyingpaintertragedy (please take a look at their blog) reached out to me regarding this. They mentioned that many of Ugandas lgbtq civilians were forced to flee Uganda to neighboring Kenya. But situations are just as bad in Kenya. They spoke of the Kakuma refugee camps where they now live along with many other refugees.
I myself am just now learning of this. But if you have any information or links of organizations that may help regarding this situation, please send them to me or add them to the reblogs.

Quick Appreciation Post.
Tumblr media
Like a lot of gay people, I am used to vast swathes of the population viewing people like me as despicable, disgusting and deserving of contempt (or worse) - as the great Panti Bliss says, it's just part of the background of our lives, a constant malign presence that we have assimilated.
But alongside the more overt homophobia, what also gets me down is the more insidious variety, typified by those who don't in any way consider themselves bigots, but for whom gay people and our relationships are intrinsically comedic and joke-worthy. As if being laughed at is the entry fee we are expected to pay for being allowed into society.
Anyway I shan't wax political any further, as I'm sure it's depressing and probably not very interesting. But I just wanted to say thank you to the various bloggers I follow on here who, regardless of their own personal identities, provide portrayals of same-sex male relationships that are loving, committed and meaningful. Rather than simply a cheap punchline.
It makes more difference than you know. At least to me. And probably to a few other people as well.

Hey Radblr!
My wife & I just had an amazing idea in the process of planning our home decoration. We want to do an accent wall that's essentially wallpapered with a Lesbian History Collage. We came up with the idea while discussing this post:
Tumblr media
Specifically, the idea stems from what I'd said about historical LGB folks, especially lesbians, feeling like my actual ancestors rather than my family. I want to honor them in our home. So, I thought I'd ask you all for your favorite historical newspaper articles, book excerpts, lesbian couple photographs, lesbian activism photographs, etc. Please send me anything and everything you can think of, all your favorite stories and pictures - and make sure they come with a caption providing context as we will be including that of course!
Thanks in advance! We are SO excited to do this project & will definitely post pics when it's done, though it will take a while for sure.

“Girl 'Husband' Admits Guilt,” Montreal Star. March 14, 1942. Page 3. --- Antoinette Arsenault Pleads Guilty to Fraud Counts on Arraignment --- Dressed in the men's clothes in which she married another girl here two weeks ago, Antoinette Arsenault, 22, formerly of Ottawa, appeared before Judge Marin in arraignment court today and pleaded guilty to charges of falsifying a birth certificate and of using it to commit a fraudulent act. She will be sentenced March 18.
According to police, the girl posed as Andre Arsenault, the name she used on her registration card. She and the girl she married worked in the Bouchard munitions plant at Ste. Therese for two years. Her "wife" is Rita Ouellette, 19-year-old New Brunswick girl.
The case has been turned over to the Quebec Attorney-General and other charges may be laid depending on his decision.
