‘The beauty of this lifestyle is the effortless maintenance’
It wasn’t until Anna gave birth to her daughter that she started experiencing issues maintaining her weight. After that, in spite of eating a low-fat, portion-controlled diet and picking up intense daily exercise, her weight wouldn’t budge one bit.
Prior to eating low carb, Anna would usually start her day with oatmeal. It didn’t keep her satisfied for long, so by 10:30 am, she was so ravenously hungry that she had to grab a snack.
Lunch was often a salad with bread. In the evening, she’d be very hungry, and try to eat just a small portion of carb-rich foods like pasta, followed by dessert.
I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t able to control my weight, when I was so accomplished in other areas of my life
“I was banging my head against the wall. I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t able to control my weight, when I was so accomplished in other areas of my life,” Anna says.
In addition, Anna’s blood sugar levels were creeping up and she started feeling exhausted all the time. The digestive issues that started when she was in university were also getting worse. Anna tried eating more fiber and avoiding fats, but to no avail.
The weight gain also took a great emotional toll on her. She started to wonder whether she would ever feel comfortable in her own skin again. “It makes me anxious just to think about what things were like at the time,” Anna says.
How Anna discovered low carb and keto
In 2014, Anna’s friend, who was a model, introduced her to low carb. He said that he always used a “miracle” diet of broccoli, fish, and chicken to get ready for photo shoots.
She tried the diet and started losing weight immediately. In just two weeks’ time, she lost 15 pounds (or 7 kilos) and went down to her ideal weight. What’s more, her blood sugar stabilized, her gut calmed down, and she had more energy than ever before.
[Why We Get Fat] made me realize that my friend’s advice to not eat salmon, because it had too much fat, wasn’t well-founded
The diet change made her very curious to learn more. Within a short while, she started reading Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. “The book made me realize that my friend’s advice to not eat salmon, because it had too much fat, wasn’t well-founded,” Anna says.
Her newfound keto interest also led her to Diet Doctor. “I love the solid, reliable advice. I always read new Diet Doctor articles, and watch conference presentations about the latest keto research,” Anna says.
The best part of keto according to Anna? She says that “the beauty of this lifestyle is the effortless maintenance.” Unlike before, she has looked the same for the last six years that she’s been following the diet.
Anna’s way of eating keto
These days, Anna eats three meals a day. As she has no problems with repetition. She often ends up eating the same meals over and over again.
Usually, she starts her day with eggs, like an omelette with added cold cuts or leftovers. Sometimes, she cooks a large frittata in the oven on a baking sheet, and cuts it into small pieces, which she then goes on to eat over several days.
I also love cold cuts! I recently bought a whole leg of jamón that I sliced up and just added a bit of oil
Later on in the day, she eats lunch and then dinner, and both of these meals tend to look fairly similar. Pork belly, lamb shanks, ribeye, pork shoulder, and pork ribs are some of her favorites. “I also love cold cuts! I recently bought a whole leg of jamón that I sliced up and just added a bit of oil,” Anna says.
You can see Anna’s favorite meals below.

The benefits of exercise are marginal if you eat the wrong diet or overload your system with carbs
Anna doesn’t think that exercise is necessary for weight loss. In fact, in the two weeks that she lost the 15 pounds (7 kilos), she didn’t exercise at all. “The benefits of exercise are marginal if you eat the wrong diet or overload your system with carbs,” Anna says.
Nowadays, Anna’s improved energy levels have spurred her to run three times per week. She even got certified as a body pump instructor. Exercise feels enjoyable, makes her happy, and helps her manage stress better.
Anna’s top tips for people starting keto:
Eat to lose weight. Eat keto foods until full and satisfied. Otherwise, you risk slipping off your keto plan.
It’s a marathon — not a sprint. Get ready to change your habits permanently. Clean out any high-carb foods from your kitchen, stock your fridge and freezer with keto foods, and otherwise adjust your life to make sticking to the diet easier in the long term.
Fall small. When you make a mistake, make it a small slip by getting right back on track. The longer you’re off the keto wagon, the harder restarting becomes.
Comment
Thanks for sharing your success with us, Anna! I especially appreciate your comment about “fall small.” It’s not, “don’t fall at all.” But rather, it’s important to realize we aren’t perfect and the key is not letting that derail us. As you said, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Keep up the great work!
Best, / Dr. Bret Scher

Bollywood Actresses with PCOD and How They Treated The Condition
https://ift.tt/2Mi2mt7
There is an old English proverb that goes something like this, “life is not a bed of roses.” What is signified via the metaphor is that everyone has to face some problems and struggle in life to survive. All of us have to face some obstacle and hindrance in our respective lives – each and every one of us has our very own battles to fight and prevail. That becomes our life’s story. And practically no one is spared this battle of life; irrespective of whether you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, men or women, all of us have to face our own battles in life. It is such a universal human condition that even world renowned celebrities are not spared. Recently, quite a few world renowned celebrities such as Emma Thompson and Victoria Beckham, have come out in public and shared with us all how they have been fighting their own battle with a health condition PCOD or the Polycystic Ovarian Disease. Since then, a number of prominent Bollywood celebrities have also taken to the public forum to share awareness about the condition as well as inspiring several thousand women all over India not to surrender to the disease, rather to fight on. They have uninhibitedly shared with us how they have braved this medical condition as well as telling us what remedial measures they adopted for themselves and succeeded in their battle against PCOD. So, today we shall take some time to spare a few words on this issue of some serious public importance and wide concern. And ever since Bollywood actresses have started to come out to share their stories of their respective fight against PCOD for obvious reasons, they have not only made national headlines but have played a significant role in spearing awareness about this medical condition among all and sundry.
Three Bollywood actresses have so far made their fight with PCOD public and they are Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan. These three Bollywood divas have inspired thousands of women all over this country who are also battling this medical condition, have infused new fighting spirit and zeal to carry on and to never surrender. These three Bollywood actresses have made their medical condition public all that they did to combat the condition in the first place. So, for this article, we will go over the details of their struggles and what they opine and advise other women also diagnosed with the same disease.
1. Sonam Kapoor: Actress Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of famous Bollywood Actor Anil Kapoor, and has earned a name for herself with her talent and hard work as a world class actress. A flawless beauty and the ultimate fashionista, Sonam has been one of the leading ladies of B-town for quite some years now, having bagged a National Award as well. But it was only when she publicly disclosed the fact that she had suffered from PCOD and that she had fought a lot to win the battle that she captured the imagination of the millions of Bollywood fans and came to be considered as one of the strongest actresses in Bollywood history. And this is what Sonam Kapoor has to say about her fight against PCOD. Sonam claims that she had always been an overweight kid and that she was diagnosed with PCOD when she was just in her teens. Like any other normal human being, she was listless for the first few weeks, terribly disheartened and understandably depressed. It took every bit of courage that she could manage to muster to finally get out of that mood and then try to take stock of her life, to take charge of her life and steer it out of it. The plump kid took initiative and with the proper diet and exercise regime, she not only won her battle against adolescent obesity, depression, diabetes and hormonal imbalance (that had apparently been responsible of unnatural hair growth on her face). Her timely switch to a healthier lifestyle did the trick and now she is a national heartthrob and a diva. That’s right, the girl who allegedly gained over 35 kilograms in under 5-6 months is now on the cover of the world’s leading fashion and lifestyle magazines, consistently being voted as one of the hottest actresses in the entire country. Her photo shoots are national news events and her attires and dress up becomes the golden standard of fashion statement in the country nowadays.
Sonam says that she really enjoys coconut water. And while she practises no restraints or restrictions on her diet, she does her best to avoid excess salt and sugar. She also consumes cucumber juice to boost her energy levels. She is a regular dancer and she swims. She has the habit of eating after every two-hour interval to keep her metabolic rate at an optimum level. She is also a fan of jogging and is an ardent advocate of Pilates.
3. Kareena Kapoor: She is one of those actresses who require no introduction. She hails from the legendary Kapoor family of the Bollywood industry, She has acted in some of the biggest Bollywood movies in history and has to her credit 6 Filmfare awards and is one the highest paid actresses of Bollywood, but she shook the nation when she came out in public to let the world know that she too was diagnosed with PCOD and that she is winning the battle (keeping it under control) through will power, lifestyle changes. Sleep, stress management, regular exercise and proper diet – these are key ingredients to Bebo’s health and fitness and success against PCOD. She advocated the consumption of coconut, ghee, jaggery and aliv seeds in proportion as they help by opening up skin pores. Raw banana and yam are also her favourites. She advices us to consume sprouted vegetables that assist in tackling PMS, migraine, etc. To all this dietary suggestions, she advocates backing up lifestyle with regular exercise to keep the hormone levels at bay. She also advises calcium and vitamin B12 to help in providing relief during period cramps.
3. Sara Ali Khan: She is the new kid in the block. Her Bollywood career started just recently in 2018 with her debut performance in the movie “Kedarnath.” She is the daughter of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan and actress Amrita Singh. But what really got the general crowd emotional was the story of her life before all the jazz and razzmatazz. As a teenager, Sara was struggling with obesity and she was diagnosed with PCOD. She had to work really hard; exercise and diet, to get into shape and also to stay on top of her medical condition. Her story inspired millions of young women in our country and she continues to be a source of inspiration. She made her story public at the popular talk show “Koffee with Karan” and she has been in the limelight ever since.
Sara followed a strict dietary regime that consisted of egg whites and toast or idlis for breakfast; chapatis daal, vegetables, salad and fruits for lunch. Her snacks constituted upma while she had chapatis accompanied with green veggies for dinner. She prefers to eat oats before workout and post work out Sara goes for protein shake, tofu, salad and legumes. Sara advises women with PCOD to take their exercise seriously. From yoga to swimming to hitting the gym on a regular basis – you must follow up on everything if you want to stay on top and ahead of the disease. Sara admits that it is difficult to manage your weight if you are diagnosed with PCOD; however, she refuses to acquiesce to the fact that just because it is hard that it cannot be done. She is truly an inspiration to us all.
So dear readers, tell us what you think of today’s short piece on some famous Bollywood actresses and their fight against PCOD. The article was meant to inspire all of you beautiful women to stay strong and positive. More power to us all. I really hope that you enjoyed the article and we look forward to hearing from you. So do not hesitate to drop a line or two in the comments section below.
And please let us know if you want us to write similar such articles in the future. We would love to hear from you again.

In Bangkok with David Beckham
“Washing lettuce laughing” — three words you don’t expect to read on a shot list for an advertising campaign starring world-famous athlete and humanitarian David Beckham. If we weren’t careful, this concept pitched by the advertising agency could have been confused with the stock photo meme “women laughing with salad”, but we knew there could also be a tasteful way to pull it off. We just had to channel our cinematic energy together towards the concept.
Editor’s note: You can follow Joey’s work on his Instagram. Joey’s lighting and Photoshop tutorials can be viewed at LearnFromJoeyL.com. This article was originally published on Joey’s blog.
Washing lettuce laughing was the second image we made during our day-long shoot with David in Bangkok. So, I added some gunk in the foreground and used a painterly key light with a desaturated earth tone background so that I could achieve a more dramatic look. When we saw the first test photo pop up on the monitor on set, I think we all breathed a sigh of relief. Everyone was in good spirits. The shoot had begun.
We were photographing David Beckham in Bangkok for AIA, a pan-Asian life and health insurance company. The purpose of the campaign was to portray David engaging in healthy activities, such as exploring local markets, preparing fresh foods and exercising.
After seeing some of my photos of the burning oil wells in Qayyara, Iraq, David’s people reached out to me to see if I might want to document a humanitarian trip David was planning in Africa. That particular project never materialized, but David and his team would eventually connect with me again for this specific project in Bangkok. Before the shoot in Bangkok, I spoke with David and his team over the phone to see how David likes to work. They told me that David doesn’t like to stop or to take breaks—that he prefers a go-go-go photo session. This aligned precisely with my work ethic as well. When I get in the zone photographing, I don’t want to stop. I just have an innate urge to continue working until we create the images everyone envisioned.
With David’s and my work ethic in mind, I knew we needed the shoot to move as efficiently as possible. This encompassed seamlessly moving quickly from one setup to the next — all while we put our best efforts into preserving time on our set. This meant that we had to avoid wasting time with lighting arrangements or pre-lighting. Fortunately, the budget was generous enough for me to hire a large local Thai team for assistance, in addition to my familiar dream team — Jesse, Caleb, and Hector.
Two days before the shoot, we did a full scout of the city, to select potential locations. We did this while keeping Beckham’s fame in mind, we could only select locations that would allow us to set up public barricades. The day before the shoot, we used a stand-in test subject to rehearse our lighting.
Thanks to our thorough pre-shoot work, the day with David ran very smoothly. Caleb was one step ahead of us the whole time, moving packs to the next set-up area and getting everything into place. So all I had to do at each location was make a few quick tweaks before diving into my photography.
When you’re doing a day-long shoot with a person as in-demand as David Beckham, you want to make the most of your time, and you want to shoot as much as you can, as it’s the best thing for you and your client. The challenge of a day-long shoot in the outdoors is that the quality of the light is always changing. But just because you don’t like to shoot in harsh afternoon lighting, it doesn’t mean you stop shooting entirely.
To make the most of both our time and lighting for David, we diffused the natural light over our setups. For example, early in the morning, hours before making the image of David in the market, our grip team went to that alleyway and rigged the location with diffusion materials. That way, regardless of the time of the day David would reach the set with soft lighting.
For the image of David in the tuk-tuk, we had a huge scrim arranged over the whole scene. With the entire area covered in the scrim, the light would be soft no matter where David went. I still used a flash, so there was some degree of control, but the scrim softened that harsh afternoon sunlight.
All in all, the project ran very smoothly. It was an honor to work with David, whom I’ve admired for his humanitarian efforts, and the pace of the shoot seemed to please him.
The icing on the cake for this project was definitely working alongside Wally Pfister, who directed the commercial for the AIA’s ad campaign. I am a huge fan of Pfister’s, and to be on the same tier of importance- in a sense of running the stills while he’s doing the video- is so damn cool. I don’t think I could articulate how honored I am. Wally Pfister is the man. He’s the David Beckham of cinematography.

I would like to thank everyone who made this shoot possible. In no particular order:

45 Catastrophic Failures in Graphic Design That Will Make You Laugh
As we all know, a visual design’s purpose, regardless if it’s logos designs, outdoor signage, ads design or website designs, their job is to give off the same energy you would want people to receive when you describe the company or the organization they represent.
That being said, it’s quite surprising that there are actually people that are willing, and more importantly, more daring to post a logo design in the price range of $100. Some of them even show enough disrespect to the creative community to low down the prices until $50/design. But the worst part of this story is not just the low prices some customers tend to set, but also the fact that many designers accept them. Beyond this, it looks like no one thinks it’s almost a fact that only graphic designs failures will come out of that venture.
Somehow, I think the designers who take these shameful jobs can’t be fully blamed; quite frankly, I think they just don’t know any better or they didn’t look at the design from all perspectives. For the most part, the people accepting these disrespectful jobs are either young designers, at the beginning of their career or less skilled starving designers on their last money with no solid clients in sight. Or a person who knows to play a little bit with the design software and after getting no responses from other “so called designer” has decided to take the design work into his / her own hands and consider he/she did a very good job.
Obvious, this treatment of graphic design will lead, without any doubt, to the inevitable lower graphic design standards set for this creative profession. With a key creative field being disregarded every day, a client base for this field with an “ignorance is a bliss” mindset, and plenty of people claiming falsely to be graphic designers, what is there for real professional creatives to do?
Well, maybe take a note from the satire TV shows and celebrate some of the greatest design failures. We spent so much time celebrating how good some designs can be, and appreciating the real skills and talent that are showcased there, and we forget talking about graphic design failures. And we can see a lot.
That’s why in this article, you will see an array of awful designs. Some of them will make you laugh, other of them will make you to ask yourself “What was in the designer’s mind?”
1. The Eat
Everyone likes to eat, but I think the designer of this cup is the only who knows it’s about a cat!
2. Website stock photo failure
Did you see The Invisible Man movie? This could be a new way for making him visible for others! Nothing else to add, just a note for the designers: always double or even triple check your stock photos!
3. ChURrch
I can’t figure out if it’s only de designer fault, but I think a proofreader is missing here!
4. Apprenticeships
If you are looking for an apprentice, this doesn’t really mean anything. But if your target is a bunch of people looking for app rentals or ice ships or ice on ships, this design could have a sense.
5. Arlington Pediatric Center
I just checked their website and I saw they have changed their logo to something more appropriate for a medical center. It’s no longer a pedophilic center. But it seems they save something with crabs and bears. A new failure? Or just marketing strategy?
6. Mont-Sat
No one should be jealous on his happiness :D. He’s just Mr. satellite!
7. Unfortunate reflection
Who wants this??? The best example for checking the end result before playing with reflection!
8. Zombie apocalypse
Do you imagine how could it be? Bad designs might just send us into the zombie apocalypse!
9. Cannibalism of cats
As I remember, cannibalism is forbidden even in the cat community.
10. Kundawara Pharmacy
There’s no need explanation why Kundawara Pharmacy’s logo gained such widespread public attention.☺ We just wonder what services are offered behind of these doors.
11. Institute of Oriental Studies
The designer who created this logo thought it was the best representation for what the Oriental Studies mean ☺
12. Mama’s baking
Maybe the designer’s intention was to start a fire down there? Ok, maybe in Greece, where this café is located, this doesn’t seem weird. Just maybe….
13. Maple Syrup
It seems no one noticed the suggestive nature of the sign for over a decade.
14. Mega Flicks
After reading this logo, many customers might think twice before entering into a MegaFlicks store.  Lesson to learn: chose fonts carefully.
15. Rape Nuts
Rape Nuts? Grape Huts? Rape Guts? I think the copy was doing well before the designer decided to get some style with letters.
16. Super Bowl
Who needs an elbow, anyway? This happens when the designer doesn’t pay too much attention….
17. Don’t be happy
Good designs promote happiness and encourage you to set aside your worries. The bad designs do the exact opposite.
18. Poo
Everyone does it, but hopefully not on the table ☺\
19. Chewable vitamins
Everyone wants healthy skin, hair and nails. But I don’t think anyone likes to chew them.
20. Therapist? Rapist?
Yeah, sure, “rapists” and “therapists” are the same thing….. Think and design again…. With a better font. Or at least a little bit more attention. This image reminds me a lot of a different “therapies” design fail.
21. Virtual Reality
I really don’t think it’s necessary to make VR technology more whimsical than it already is.
22. Bone Goal
I don’t think the whole team should share the same “bone” goal…
23. Yves Levesque
It looked ok in Photoshop, right? This happens when the car wraps are designed without making real simulations.
24. Factory Farts
No family can live with factory farts. But this headline is a huge mistake.
25. Lesson about bones
Definitely, this is not the lesson about bones you meant to be teaching.
26. You Are Alone
Pink on pink is really undercutting your message. Someone should learn about contrast in graphic design.
27. Wedding Invitation
Many people consider marriage being a prison. But I don’t think someone should be left hanging on their wedding day. ☺
28. Sauces or car clean products?
These sauces look like car clean products. I don’t think this is the vibe the designer wanted to be.
29. Fashion Fart
For sure, this wasn’t the intention of the designer, but still..
30. Unbelievable Transformation
When you work so hard, you change even the ethnicity…
31. Sasa Lele
I love Sasa Lele ☺!. Especially when it has 50% discount!
32. Buy 3, get 2
It seems this designer is also the best marketer in the world ☺))!
33. Children’s Menu
Yes, I’ll take one Child Rib, please, along with a Child Burger! And for drink…….
34. Plastic Surgery
Maybe this women should start tell little white lies after her plastic surgery!
35. Exit poll
Apparently zero is a little bit less than 34, but it’s much bigger than 22 ☺. Someone should learn to make some infographics.
36. Men’s Boxer
Another example of unrealistic body expectation for men….
37. Love, Morriage, Bobby?
Who is Bobby? Does he know who will come up?
38. Ndeeisgihgbnocrehnotoedr
For sure, the designer’s intention was to be different, but, does anyone understand anything?
39. Doughboys
Maybe this restaurant offers pizza, salad and panini, but their logo says something else. I won’t mention what, yet it’s not too difficult to see for yourself.
40. Clinica Dental
Dental clinic or “full-service” practitioner? I think the patients of this clinic have already figured out ☺.
41. Year Of The Monkey
This poster was created for celebrating Year of the Monkey. But as humans, we have to ask: Which monkey?
42.Junior Jazz Dance Classes
This happens when the designer doesn’t pay too much attention to the negative space. Wonder if it’s a junior dancer center or something else?
43. The computer doctor
Just wonder why and how. Just view the mouse from the logo and pass your own judgment.
44. Corona
Clearly, this man doesn’t have any arms. But… would he be the man of the future?
45. Bureau of Health Promotion Taiwan
When you’ve gone too far, I think it’s better to step back and take a closer look. Am I right?

Keep Off The Weight During College: Stop the Freshman Fifteen
Photo By: Southern Arkansas University/ CC BY
Most young girls switch to adult metabolic rates at the time of starting college. This can translate int the Freshmen 15 or the fifteen-pound weight gain which can be a health risk. But if women exercise enough, by their senior years, they can reach the weight they were when they started college. Men mature later, weighing more at graduation. The 15 pound gain is just an average. The actual weight gain may be more around 10 pounds. But some people reach a heavier weight and some don’t gain weight at all. Getting into a healthy eating and exercise mode can solve the problem considerably. But, bodily transitions, schedules that are extensive and the sudden independence to eat and drink what one feels like can be a counterweight, tipping the scale in the favor of the freshman 15. Here are the ways to stop this disastrous weight gain from marring your college years.
How To Give Freshman Fifteen a Miss
#1 Snack Regularly
Eating mini-meals or snacks after 3-4 hours can avoid you from going on a food binge. The big emphasis here is on small snacks. Don’t replace meals with several of the large amounts of snacks, if your aim is to lose weight or stay your trim, svelte self. Eating contributes to a rise in the BMR which is the number of calories being burnt when the body remains stable. The more snacks of small proportions are consumed at regular intervals, the more weight loss results as the BMR shoots up. Studies have found that participants who ate 17 small snacks over a period of 24 hours lowered insulin and cholesterol levels, lowering chances of gaining weight.
#2 Don’t Ever Skip Breakfast
Students are often in a rush to get to classes. As a result, breakfast becomes the most neglected meal of the day. The American Society of Nutritional Sciences has found that breakfast calorie intake makes it possible to lower calorie consumption in toto. If the first meal of the day is skipped, it can lead to calorie fests later in the day.
#3 Stock Your Shelves With Health Food
Stocking up your dorm with fresh veggies and fruits, trail mixes, granola bars and so on will increase the chances of binging less on unhealthy foods. As against food in dorms, you can pack some snacks to eat on the move. This will save you from the junk food most college vending machines dispense.
#3 Alcohol Can be a Buzzkill. So Can Liquid Calories
Photo By: George Mason University/ CC BY
Each beer mug averages a total of one hundred and fifty calories. Drink only 3-5 of these and you can imagine the calorie overload your body goes through. Add munching and late night binging, and there you have it– the freshman 15 becomes a reality for you. You need just 3,500 calories to gain one pound of fat. Don’t eat less and drink more because that will never work. Drinking on an empty stomach is dangerous and also leads to a fall in blood sugar, triggering hunger. This along with lower inhibitions can prove lethal when it comes to succumbing to fried, processed or junk foods. If you think drinking juice is healthy, this might give you some food for thought. Most juices are not 100% fruit and come heavily laden with sugar, the ideal recipe for weight gain. So don’t give in to sugary drinks and colas, because you will be paying with your health, and the price of overeating can be dangerous.
#4 Don’t Diet
Photo By: George Mason University/ CC BY
Dieting such as those based on fads like the lemonade diet or the sleeping beauty diet will cut down your calories, but also your nutrition. The body needs complex vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to function effectively. Depriving yourself of food at a time when your body needs it can have serious consequences for physical and mental health later in life, besides creating a problem when it comes to weight gain in Freshman years. Go to reputed sites for more on healthy eating, rather than thinking there is a magic bullet for your weight gain problems.
#5 Embrace Fitness
Photo By: Gunnery Sgt Brian Tuthill/ CC BY
Most schools have sports clubs and varsity teams. If there is a sport you excel at or even like, why not join these? And you don’t even have to be a star athlete to succeed. All you have to do is engage in regular and disciplined exercise. Boosting the metabolism is easy if you exercise hard and are fighting fit.
#6 Eat Right
This is another golden rule you need to follow. For larger meals, replace carbs with lean meats, nuts, fish and other forms of proteins. The body burns more calories when digesting protein. Moreover, protein is the basic building block for muscle repair and growth. Muscles consume energy and help you to tone your body and lose calories. The resting metabolism rises only if you eat correctly and exercise well.
#7 Hydrate Yourself
This is another important rule. Don’t give H20 a miss. Your body needs water to keep it running properly. Water is needed to process calories. Dehydration leads to a slowed metabolic rate. Eat fruits and veggies rich in water for the boost to your body. Carry a regular supply of water through classes to last you. Check if the metabolism can be boosted and prevent your body from over-eating by drinking enough water. If your body is dehydrated, it can interfere with the capacity of the brain to register satiation.
#8 Go For Pizza Only After the Salad
Don’t miss out on a delicious pizza or a tantalizing cheeseburger. But pair it with salads and veggies for the best results. Sharing your meals can also lead to smaller portions and cut down on weight gain.
#9 Build Muscle
Muscle weighs the same as fat but takes up less space. This means building muscles boosts the BMR. For each pound of muscle, burn around six calories a day by doing just about nothing. Burn two calories per day each day if you choose fat instead. So, by gaining fat, you trap yourself in a vicious cycle of weight gain, which is self-perpetuating.
#10 Get Regular Sleep
Massive workloads can keep you awake at night. But don’t be tempted to pull an all-nighter and show up for class the next day. Disrupted patterns of sleep can lead to weight gain. When you are exhausted, there is a greater chance of opting for unhealthy foods and sugary drinks. Sleep deprivation can damage your metabolism. Poor food choices will result and when you are lacking rest, ghrelin, a hormone which tells you to start eating malfunctions. Sleep loss also disrupts leptin, a hormone that tells you when to stop eating. Get 6-8 hours of sleep at least each night.
#11 Regulate Stress
Photo By: Better Works Break Room/ CC BY
Stress can be a silent killer. It can also lead to a piling up of weight. Having a packed schedule and tons of work can stat haunting you, destroy your peace of mind and lead to emotional or stress eating which can have serious consequences. Hormonal reaction to high stress means your body will register hunger pangs that are insatiable. Hormonal imbalances can also add to the weight gain and so, you need to eat slowly at meal times, avoid getting tense and certainly work on your stress reduction techniques to manage the source of your stress.
Conclusion
Other important aspects of keeping off weight gain include avoiding peer pressure, watching what you eat, weighing yourself regularly and being conscious about how to eat right and following a disciplined regimen. While everyone wants to live it up in college, it’s certainly no fun being obese! A host of medical conditions is associated with Freshman 15 and weight gain that is unhealthy and takes you beyond your ideal range. Don’t let weight gain be a reason for self-destruction. Opt for sensible eating and sleeping habits and regulate yourself in a balanced way, so that you don’t fall prey to Freshman 15 and the serious consequences associated with it.
