hey desticule. so i have a supernatural-themed girl best friends story that i’ve wanted to share for a long time, especially because none of my irl friends ever rly understood the gravity of this experience w/o the context of spn. there’s a lot of fun parallels to stuff on the show, and its given me like years of brain rot and therapy lmao. so i really deeply appreciate this page as an outlet, thank you so much to the mods for making it. anyways uh. here goes. sorry it’s so long.
[tw: queer trauma, religious trauma, mental illness]
okay so. in 3rd grade i met this girl. we'll call her kate. we became best friends, as in our names were never spoken separately, we did (and won) every science fair together, she came skiing with my family every winter, i stayed with her family at their beach house in the summers, our younger siblings were friends, etc.
our birthdays were exactly 6 months apart (jan 22/jul 22) so we literally believed that we were celestially intertwined.
we wrote a novel together in 8th grade. her family is baptist, we attended massachusetts catholic schools. i would go to church with her family when i slept over, i held hands and said grace with them at meals. they are all tall and blonde and beautiful. classically angelic. i am south asian. i remember introducing her to harry potter in the 4th grade, her mother hadn't let her read em because it was "blasphemous", but i snuck her my copies and she would read them during lunch n recess and keep them in my locker. sorry this seems like a lot of unnecessary detail but it will be important later.
anyways we both got into doctor who and subsequentally supernatural (s1-8?9 at the time). i specifically remember getting her into supernatural. i also remember her instinctive disdain for destiel when i talked about it, i was showing her a meta or fanfic i think, and i talked her through undoing some of her christian household’s internalized homophobia (fully assuming we were both straight at this point) (we were fucking 12). we'd do the whole "bitch" "jerk" thing, i (the older one) affectionately called her 'sammy', her phone password was dean, mine was cas (and they still are). on my 13th birthday, she gifted me a samulet, which i still wear to this day. (additionally, she gave me a vonnegut 'so it goes' necklace one year) (thats not vital but) (goes to show the extent of my dean coding) (im also an aquarius lmao). im highly protective of her. i carry extra rubber bands on my wrist for her. i keep our money and phones in my jacket when the school takes us skiing. i sit next to her in the halls during lunch and organize her binder. on an 8th grade field trip, a boy made a gross comment at her and i broke his nose.
so we start high school together at coed catholic school nearby, i join debate, make a friend also into spn, she's bi. she asks kate out over text. kate's mom sees this. things turn.
now the rest of these things happened over the course of a couple months and due to my trauma memory loss, i have no idea how accurate some of these memories are so uh. don't hold me to them.
- her highly religious mother is not happy with this obviously. at some point, she brings a priest home and tries to have kate exorcised.
- at this point, we learn that kate is schizophrenic; it never seemed to create noticeable issues before bc her home life and childhood was a perfect happy dream (not an assumption, her words).
- she's still coming to school, sporadically now, i bring home her work, spend hours helping her.
- when she comes to school, she has seizures: sometimes we're fortunate enough that they happen in a class we have together. she freezes up and the teacher empties the room. i refuse to leave. i hold her hand and softly sing her favorite song and sometimes she comes back to me. sometimes she doesn’t and the bell rings and the teacher forces me to leave and let the nurse handle it.
- another time they announce a medical lockdown (to keep ppl out of the hallway if someone is being escorted to an ambulance) while im in catholicism class, i immediately know it’s her; she fainted in the pool during swim team practice.
- i stay awake for 6 days straight bc i read online that sleep deprivation induces some of the same symptoms as schizophrenia and if i could understand what she was going through, i could help her
- she shows up at my house w both of her parents 15 minutes before the winter ball, begs me to go bc her parents will only let her if i go. so i do. her mom lurks by the gym doors with the chaperones. during a slow song, kate and debate girl start to slow dance, i grab our friend’s hand, drag him in front of them so her mom can’t see and make out with him.
- i wanted to tell her to stop but i was too afraid i would lose us, that it would seem like i was homophobic or i was jealous, but i knew her in my marrow and it didn’t seem like she was in love or into the relationship, it was willful self destruction
- we talked in the last few years, she confirmed this.
- at some point, she says she’s sorry she didn’t tell me about the voices before.
- when we talk, she’s not her anymore, she doesn’t remember our inside jokes, our codes, i can feel her being slowly ripped away and apart in real time
- i have a vivid memory of arguing with her and her telling me im not real, that her mind made me up, while occasionally speaking to something? someone? else in the room. i hold her hand and point to the matching thin scars on our thumbs and try to convince her im real.
- she eventually drops out entirely, taken to some mental facility that im not entirely sure wasnt conversion therapy (it was definitely a religious facility) (and conversion therapy was not outlawed in new hampshire until 2019) and im not allowed to see her.
- every now and then i get cryptic distressing emails or texts from her.
- one in particular has the subject, “youandiwalkafragilelineihaveknownitallthistimebutineverthoughtidlivetoseeitbreak” which is the first line of the song ‘haunted’ by taylor swift (our shared favorite)(the summer after this happened we collectively decided we needed a new swift Our Song and chose ‘breathe’). the body of the email read “what the hell have i done”
- i pray for the first time in my life, every single day for a few months, in different languages, at temple with my parents, in the chapel at school
- on a club trip, i get a call at 2am from her, crying, asking me why i didn’t help her, why i didn’t stop her, that it was my job to protect her
here’s something i wrote about her, three yrs after:
I wasn’t careful enough and she caught quickly. She burned so close and so bright that for long afterwards, I could not see. And like that, she was gone. I walked into the chapel. Mea culpa. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.
[that last line is from the latin version for a catholic prayer called the act of contrition, it translates to “through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault”]
in the fall, i hear she’s starting at a small baptist school almost an hour from her house. she is dating the principal’s son. the principal is also her pastor.
in my second year of college, i have a bad acid trip in a snowy park in december. i put my hands into the snow and when i look at them,i see blood. i see her body in the snow adorned like it’s a funeral
i still have dreams about her. sometimes i meet her in a grassy field, flying kites and i invite her to my wedding. in others, i catch a glimpse of her ponytail and catholic school skirt and chase her up eight flights of stairs and when i grab her hand, she turns to ash.
at some point in a separate argument w my parents in which they went through my texts and found out i wasn’t straight (amongst other things) my dad says:“i knew i should’ve listened to [kate’s dad] when he told me the things you would talk about. he knew what you are. and he took his daughter away from you.”
last christmas we met up and drove around together, she tells me that for years she thought i hated her for letting me down and for abandoning me, and i literally have the dean winchester in ‘sacrifice’ five stages of grief when sam says “you know what i confessed in there?” because i could not even begin to fathom that she ever blamed herself. it had always been my fault. i had failed to save her. i corrupted her and i failed to save her.
anyways she’s fine now, she’s okay, im okay, we’ve talked and unpacked and we’re alright. but uh. yeah. that happened. the parallels make me crazy. now they can make you crazy too.

TIMELINE:
tw: mentions of abuse, homophobia, miscarriage
18th February, 1980 - The Shaw’s welcome Sade to their family. The London UK home grows by one, and Marianne is happy to have a little sister to spoil. Young and clueless about the world she was birthed into, Sade would eventually grow into the strict and religious-based household her parents ran.
Childhood - Sade was well cared for and loved by her parents. Though she proved to be more of a handful to nurture than her older sister, they loved her no differently. She loved to dance, and they encouraged it, so long as she kept her grades up. It was a documentary featuring Anna Pavlova’s ‘the dying swan’ that sparked her Ballerina dreams, and she never looked back.
Teens- Sade’s early teen years were riddled with mischief, most of which she kept from her parents for fear of their reactions should they find out their wholesome daughter had a world of her own when she stepped out of their sights.
Fifteen - Sade faints at school, the battery of tests doctors ran on her at the hospital revealed her pregnancy. Sade is terrified by the news and she is forced to come clean about her misdeeds. The father is Samuel Dugan; a guy from their neighborhood whose parents were friends of the Shaw family. Sade never truly liked Samuel that much, though he was charming and said all the right things, it took him several tries to be successful with his wooing.
Her first time having sex was with Samuel due to peer pressure, and the desire to sate her own curiosity regarding the hype and mystery around the deed. By then Sade had made out with a girl, so she figured; what was one more exploration of her sexuality going to hurt? Unfortunately, that one hookup with Samuel was enough to get her pregnant. Sixteen - The Shaw’s and Dugan’s waste no time in trying to fix the damage caused by the reckless teens. Both parties agreed that avoiding a scandal was imperative, and they weighed the pros and cons of an abortion versus a shotgun wedding. In a bittersweet twist, neither strategy was needed as Sade suffered a miscarriage a week that hospital visit. Sade’s parents transfer her out of that high school and ship her off to an all-girls Christian boarding school hoping to straighten out their rebellious daughter.
Eighteen - A freshly graduated Sade returns home after completing her 6th form education. Things are strained in the Shaw household, and have been for a few years. Progress reports from her boarding school would always cause some argument or the other, especially when she came home to visit over the school breaks. Sade had grown to like her time away from home, there was some independence and she got to live without being under her parent’s thumb. It gave her a taste of what being on her own would look like, and she couldn’t wait to be free. Once she got accepted into the dance school of her dreams, she hit a roadblock as the scholarship request was denied. Her parents agreed to sponsor her dance education, once she didn’t move out from the family home, and agreed to abide by their rules.
Twenties - Using Samuel as a beard, she engages in a relationship with a fellow dancer by the name of Samantha. It was easy really, she used the nickname Sam when on the phone and in general when referencing her partner, and her parents were none the wiser. Unfortunately, Sade didn’t factor in Samuel’s emotions as he had no idea that he was just a smoke screen. It didn’t dawn on her that he was serious about their relationship until she was presented with an engagement ring and a proposal. Sade’s refusal of the proposal brought out a side of Samuel that she had been turning a blind eye to over the span of their ‘relationship’. If Sade was being honest with herself, the little things that Samuel did, which herself, friends, and family thought was cute, in actuality was pretty toxic behaviour. Red flags should have gone up in her mind, but they didn’t because she was all too focused on sneaking around with her girlfriend. Not even a couple of days passed after she turned Samuel down that things began getting crazy. He would follow her around London, repeatedly send texts, and make incessant phone calls. Sade reported him, and tried to follow the legal route to keep herself safe, but all that did was escalate things. Samuel had been tailing her, even when she thought he wasn’t. He found out about Samantha and had the photographic evidence to prove it. The threat of being outed to her family instilled enough fear in her that she did whatever Samuel wanted. Sade recants her story to the police, and ends her relationship with Samantha, then becomes engaged to Samuel. Sade had a plan of her own, and it didn’t include getting married to Samuel. She needed her parents financial support in order to complete her dance program and auditions, and she knew that she would be kicked out, and cut-off should they learn about Samantha. So as long as she pretended to go along with Samuel’s blackmail, things would be fine, once she delayed the wedding of course.
Sade finds an escape from her troubles in her dancing. With her training at The Royal Ballet Upper School coming to an end, Sade successfully graduates into the Royal Ballet Company. It takes her 3 years to be promoted to Soloist. The start of her dancing career should have been one of the happiest periods in her life, but it wasn’t. Samuel figured out that he had been duped. By the time he was off exposing Sade to her family, she had already packed her bags and fled, never looking back once.
Late-Twenties to Thirties - Sade’s career takes her on an adventure. Working with the Company opens her sheltered eyes to the world. Firstly, she learned that being a ballerina isn’t all glamourous, with party invites and magazine features, but that didn’t thwart her aspirations. As long as Sade had the opportunity to do what she loved, she’s happy. Because she never learned how, managing her finances was a struggle, and living in London isn’t exactly cheap. The cost of living, paired with Sade’s spending habits to impress her friends and colleagues, cost her dearly. It also didn’t help that made a couple of bad investments along the way. Her love life even had a part to pay in her finances. Sade encountered romantic interests that turned out to be financial and emotional leeches.
When Sade learned that her contract with the Royal Ballet Company wouldn't be renewed, she panicked. Deep down, she knew it was a possibility of it happening was high, but when it became a reality, it didn't sting any less. Auditions were competitive and expensive, eventually Sade had to find other sources of income to support herself in between auditions and gigs, and she found that as a Burlesque Dancer.
Thirties to present - Sade found herself a place in another dance Company as a First Artist, but this time, in the United States. Vowing to do things differently Sade considered herself unlucky in love, and steered away from relationships. Instead her attention went to focus on her career. In theory she had the right mentality for starting her life across the pond, but even the best laid plans have the chance to go awry, and for Sade those odds seemed higher. Claims of sexual harassment made by Sade against a Principal Dancer at the company got swept under the rug by administration, and they spun the narrative to make her the villain. The fallout from the situation resulted in her leaving the company. Sade struggled to get her footing financially after that. The only bright spot in her life back then was a married woman that she met and fell head-over-heels in love with. Sade’s ten years without giving a second thought to relationships melted once they got to know each other. Unfortunately, what quality of life could they share when so many things weren’t stacked in their favour? Sade couldn’t ask Florence to leave her wealthy husband for someone who was close to eviction, and struggled to keep the utilities on. Eventually, the plan that they hatched could easily solve their problems, or land them in jail. So far, it’s been totally the former. Rich and beyond comfortably so where things that Sade never thought she would associate with herself. The sky’s the limit now for the newly engaged couple.
As they say, those who can’t do, teach, and that’s precisely what Sade decided to do. After her official retirement from performing, Sade finally had the capital to execute her business plan for a dance studio and school, and thus On Pointe was born.

Through the working platform, she came across David that is 47-year-old Reed. After dating not as much as a 12 months, reed relocated into mckelvey’s grand blanc house in december.

“Josh did the establishing,” Muskegon County Circuit Judge Timothy Hicks stated. “He made the connections. He brought Larry to the full instance later on.”
Both are serving sentences as much as 51 years in prison after being convicted of numerous counts of unlawful conduct that is sexual.
Businesses whom neglect to conduct a history check or reveal information such as for example previous arrests can be held liable possibly for unlawful functions committed through their platform, stated Maureen Mapp, a lecturer during the University of Birmingham Law class in britain.

Last year, a Los Angeles girl sued match for negligence after she ended up being intimately assaulted by another individual. The actual situation had been settled away from court and led match to hold down checks on users to make certain they’re not in the sex offender registry.
“Checking the register just isn’t themselves having to comply with consumer protection regulations and (doing) all they can to keep their users safe,” Mapp said in itself standard practice, but online companies that sell ‘relationships’ could find.
At Wayne State University, none of this victims who have been intimately assaulted after fulfilling individuals through online internet dating sites desired to follow costs, stated Wayne State University Police Lt. David Scott.
Scott included that he fears a great many other situations of intimate attack — especially ones involving online sites that are dating get unreported because victims feel embarrassed. He urged pupils who will be intimately assaulted to report it to police immediately.
“Our company is perhaps maybe perhaps not the morality authorities,” stated Scott. “We only want to make certain many people are safe.”
Secure dating in the present landscape
There are numerous platforms that are online available or perhaps in development being meant to make dating safer and invoke discussion about sex.
We-Consent, an software manufactured by the Institute for the scholarly study of Coherence and introduction, permits users to report agreements for intimate acts through the application. christian mingle owner We-Consent will not act as a dating platform, as users usually do not fulfill brand brand brand new individuals through the application.
“the objective of We-Consent is to obtain individuals to talk before they are doing one thing intimate,” stated Michael Lissack, manager of Institute for the analysis of Coherence and introduction. “the problem that is whole today’s dating landscape is people do things with each other without referring to it first, causing miscommunication and a slew of other dilemmas.”

The Cider House Vampire Rules
I completely agree with the criticism that SM is constantly ignoring bodily autonomy in her work. That’s something you have to grapple with if you’re going to stay canon--if we take SM at face value, what does it mean for the way we have to write these characters? Carlisle is 100% guilty of this in the case of Jacob’s DNA, which says something about him. I am no SM apologist. I think she wrote some disgusting stuff that she deserves to be called on.
But somewhere this idea developed that in BD, Carlisle was all gloved up and ready to force Bella into having an abortion. Not only does that not makes sense for his character, it runs directly counter to what he actually says in the book. Yet, it seems that people have concluded that “Carlisle would have been willing to abort the pregnancy” means “Carlisle was willing to force Bella against her will.” I don’t know if that’s because people find BD so insulting they’re unwilling to re-read it or what, or if it’s just that being so thoroughly inside Bella’s head has led to confusion, but as a dedicated canon writer, it’s always been my joy to find the gaps and to know these texts backwards and forwards, at least as they pertain to the character I’m writing at the time (which is usually Carlisle.)
So let’s talk about the two questions at play here: A) Was Carlisle willing and ready to terminate Bella’s pregnancy and B) Did he mean to do it against her will. I find no support for, and actually counter evidence for, B, and while I think A is quite likely, there’s actually more than a bit of wiggle room there, too.
Let’s dive in. My Twitter bio has recently been updated to read “Always here for the over the top srs bsns take.” Don’t say you weren’t warned. There are in-line citations involved because I am a NEEEEERRRRD.
The end of the honeymoon goes like this: Bella pukes, feels the baby quicken, which prompts Alice’s vision (which we never find out), which prompts the call from the Cullen household, and then they’re on the plane home.
We’re in Bella’s head at the end of the honeymoon. She doesn’t hear Carlisle’s side of the conversation after she hands the phone to Edward. Edward says this: “Is it possible? .... And Bella? .... Yes, yes, I will.” (BD 130)  And that’s it. I suppose there’s a reading you could take there that Carlisle is like, “Bring her home and strap her to a table!” and that’s what Edward replies “Yes, I will” to. But...that seems really unlikely. We have no clue what Carlisle said, except that with the way he’s characterized in the prior books, it was probably more like, “Take care of her, bring her home, and we’ll figure this out together, son.”
So let’s think about what’s going through Carlisle’s head right now. Pregnant mothers, especially first time mothers, experience quickening around midway through their pregnancies. All this goes down on August 30 (OIG 411). So that puts Bella’s conception date, were this a normal pregnancy, sometime in May, maaaybe June. June, recall, is when she spent the night in a tent with Jacob. So it’s a little early for her to feel the baby move, especially for a first pregnancy, for that to have been the conception date, but that is certainly more plausible than “my vampire kid knocked her up two weeks ago and somehow she’s already halfway through her pregnancy.”
Yes, she says her last menstrual cycle was 31 days ago. Nevertheless, it just makes more sense that this is not Edward’s baby. So Carlisle has basically no information which is actually useful, and Occam’s Razor says that’s the easiest explanation. He doesn’t know what he’s dealing with at this point. I imagine that he absolutely flew into his library at that point and started re-reading every last journal entry he’d ever made for himself. He’s making phone calls to Tanya and trying to think his way through this.
He’s also a physician. And one who we have no reason to believe is militantly anti-abortion. Anti-abortion stances being linked to evangelical Christianity is actually a very new invention, dating to the Regan era (and it’s only really common in the US.) It wasn’t actually something actual Puritans cared about. So historically, there’s not a lot of reason to think Carlisle has some deep moral objection to terminating a pregnancy. I don’t think he was out there like Dr. Larch running an illegal abortion clinic pre Roe but I’d be astonished if he hasn’t performed a handful of them over his time. I think especially in cases where it was about the life of the mother, he would feel particularly compelled to use his skills to intervene.  So he’s back at home, with the scant bit of information Edward has given, and Edward’s panic, and thinking, “Yep. Whatever is going on, we’re ending this pregnancy.” He has no reason at this point from his end to believe that Bella wants to go through with the pregnancy. He has what Edward has told him. We’ve seen Bella’s horror that Edward is thinking they should abort the baby, we’ve seen her call Rose, but Edward specifically doesn’t see this, and that means neither does Carlisle. So at this point, Carlisle is preparing himself (maybe?) to terminate a pregnancy he thinks is probably human and may be a ways along. At a bare minimum, what he knows at that point is that Bella is probably pregnant, and Edward is scared. He assumes Bella is scared. And maybe Edward calls him on the flight home and says that Kaure said that Bella was going to die. So he’s ready to do whatever he can do. Because he’s a doctor, and a father.
That’s the end of BD book 1, and BD book 2 picks up an entire week later without any intervening information. Jacob comes to visit and the next information we get about what’s happened in the meantime is him talking to Edward (BD 177), in which he asks what’s going on, and Edward, agonizing, explains in response to why “Carlisle hasn’t done anything” that “[Bella] won’t let us.”
It is then Jacob who suggests that they hold her down. And this is the one piece of information that we have that maybe suggests that Carlisle and Edward would’ve been in favor of forcing Bella, as Edward’s comment, “I wanted to. Carlisle would have...” (BD 178)
But let’s back this truck up a second. We know Edward is prone to overreaction. We also know that he tends to get pissed  when things don’t go his way (flatscreen TV in New Moon, anyone?). Maaaaaybe he’s not lying here. Maybe Carlisle really would have just totally held Bella down and done his level best.
[Tiny aside: this wouldn’t have mattered though because not being able to gauge the speed at which the fetus was growing would’ve made abortion an incredibly risky maneuver. I don’t want to go too far into this but if you can handle the somewhat gruesome facts about what it takes to end a pregnancy that is more than 20 weeks along, you can google it--it’s a multi-day thing. If it would be possible that the fetus would be an entire week or two bigger the following day, this becomes downright impossible. Carlisle’s just not that stupid. He would’ve taken one look at this situation and gone, “Noooope.” Because he’s not an idiot. And that’s even before we get into the whole vampire skin amniotic sac stuff.]
The thing that upends this, though, is in the next chapter, after Jacob breaks from Sam’s pack over protecting Bella. He’s sitting on the Cullens’ back porch, with Carlisle, all road-weary. And Jacob calls Carlisle on calling Bella his family and says, “But you’re going to let her die.”
And Carlisle answers, “I can imagine what you think of me for that. But I can’t ignore her will. It wouldn’t be right to make such a choice for her, to force her.” (BD 234, emphasis mine).  So. Edward says “Carlisle was willing.” Carlisle says “I can’t ignore her will.”  Faced with those two pieces of information, and faced with the fact that Edward by this time has been known to lie over and over if it means getting his way, I don’t find much reason to put stock in what he has to say about what Carlisle was and wasn’t willing to do. I happen to think it is entirely reasonable that Carlisle was trying to figure out a way to abort the pregnancy because that would make sense for a doctor who was concerned about his daughter-in-law’s life to do. But there’s actually no information about this either way in the actual canon. The only thing we ever know about what Carlisle would be willing to do is what Edward says he would do.
And when it comes down to it, when Bella gets home and makes clear that ending her pregnancy is not what she wants, Carlisle is clear about how he lands. I don’t find room for the “He would’ve forced her to have an abortion” debate at all, and my suspicion that he would’ve been willing to perform an abortion if Bella had been willing is just that; a suspicion based on years of reading everything I can into his character. There’s actually not direct support for that in canon, either. [Later edit on rereading--it is possible, maybe even probable that this is what Edward means by “Carlisle would have” which would make sense. My headcanon is that he was totally okay with doing it! But it’s important to point out that this is headcanon--it’s not in the text.]
So was Carlisle willing to abort a pregnancy? Yeah, I think this is pretty likely, but we actually don’t have full information. Was he willing to force Bella to do that? He himself says no, running counter to what Edward says to Jacob in the heat of a moment. And if I have to choose one of these two men to be telling the truth here, I’m always betting on Daddy C.

Minister to introduce law next year to ensure nation’s 9.4 million dogs get enough exercise

19 Aug 2020
Germany’s dog owners will soon to be ordered by law to walk their pets twice a day.
The country’s agriculture minister, Julia Klöckner, has said she is introducing the new law based on evidence that many of the nation’s 9.4 million dogs are not getting the exercise or stimuli they need.
Under the new regulations in the Hundeverordnung, or Dogs Act, owners will not get away with a quick jog round the block, but will be required to take their dogs out for at least one hour in total.
Klöckner said the rules were based on new scientific findings that show dogs need a “sufficient measure of activity and contact with environmental stimuli”, including other animals, nature and people. The tethering of dogs on a chain or a lead for long periods also faces an all-out ban.
Dogs may not be left alone at home all day, and a person will be required to take care of their dog “several times a day”.
Klöckner said: “Dogs are not cuddly toys. They also have their own needs, which need to be taken into account.”
News of the law, which is due to be introduced next year and was made widely known for the first time this week, has prompted a lively debate in Germany.
The main question is how it will be possible to check up on the 19% of German households that own dogs, which as pets are second in popularity only to cats.
A spokeswoman for the agricultural ministry has said the authorities in each of Germany’s 16 states will be responsible for enforcing the law.
But ridicule over the regulation has come even from within Klöckner’s own party, the Christian Democratic Union. Saskia Ludwig, a CDU MP who also sits in the state assembly for Brandenburg in Potsdam, said the current heatwave meant it was not suitable for dogs to be out for so long. She tweeted: “VOLUNTARY DISCLOSURE: I will not be taking my Rhodesian Ridgeback for two rounds of walks in 32 degrees heat, rather we will jump in the river for a refreshing cool down instead.”
Bärbel Kleid, the owner of a five-year-old Yorkshire terrier called Sam, who lives in Berlin, said: “I find it patronising to be told how long I should take my dog out for. And who is going to check up on me? Will the neighbour call the police if they suspect me of not taking Sam for long enough walks?”
Walther Schweiz, said his dog, a 14-year-old Alsatian called Blu has cancer, and was unable to do more than short walks close to his house in Cologne.
“They should trust people to get on with their own lives. They’ll be telling cat owners how often they need to change their litter trays next,” he said.
