Ok, national clean your home month is going surprisingly strong for how busy I’ve been!
Day 4:
wanted and needed to do laundry, realized the washing machine in my new place smelled funky, noticed lots of soap scum in the detergent tray and wait, is that? BLACK MOLD. Oh gods, it’s EVERYWHERE! Hyperfocused hard on washing my washing machine for a solid 30-45 minutes. Scrubbed evey nook and cranny I could reach, then put it on a 4.5 hr self clean cycle with a half cup of bleach.
Day 5:
Had friends coming over! Quick unpacked another 2 boxes, organized some stuff, set up the table where it goes, cleaned that and the counters, did a load and a half of laundry, cooked dinner!

Dc x dp idea 106
Danny up and left amity when he turned 18. he couldn’t handle the stress anymore. The long nights, barely passing.
It was only in his last few months that he and the ghost made an agreement. Most of them just wanted to spar. Ember was content with an online music a career. He got box ghost in a factory packing boxes.
They all knew to avoid and stay away from his parents at this point.
Still. Skulker and others were just to much. So he Left for college without telling anyone where he went. Ended up graduating early with a degree in engineering.
He gets hired to work in space!! In the watchtower.
Everything was fine and normal. No ghost, no issues, and best of all no mad scientist bent on genocide.
Now. He wasn’t expecting to get to work to witness nightwing chasing Youngblood around. How did that man even see him.
Nor did he expect Youngblood jumping on his back and screaming at him to protect him from the bully. And ignoring him wouldn’t even work as Youngblood to called him by name.
Then Youngblood to scream at him for leaving without so much as a goodbye. For leaving them with his parents still around.
Maybe nightwing won’t say anything? Yea right.
Not with his Fenton luck.

A reminder that November is coming, and with it both the very famous National Novel Writing Month and the extremely unfamous National Clean Your Home Month!
NaClYoHo is a project I created a couple of years ago for people who enjoy the madness of NaNoWriMo but don’t really need to write a novel in November. The basic idea is to set aside some time each day in November to put on a podcast, a TV show, a movie, a playlist, or any other stimulation you enjoy and spend the time doing something to make your living space more pleasant, cleaner, or more comfortable.
The full manifesto is available at the above link; it includes a few cleaning tips but is mostly about how to set goals and get motivated, and is basically a proof-of-concept document for my ADHD diagnosis.
If you’re interested in participating you can also fill out the poll here to share your podcasts, cleaning tips, &etc with others.

This whole time Luffy was standing here watching this like it was just an entertaining argument but you say “king of pirates” and suddenly he gets involved. This is actually something I love about Luffy’s character, that he actually DOES stay out of things that aren’t his business. The problem is he makes so many things his business…
I love his pose here, especially with the incongruous addition of the busboy apron.

Salty Pirates month hasn't gone as I'd hoped. I've been just barely keeping on top of the regular daily chores (feeding myself, doing dishes, and getting garbage, recycling and green waste out to the bins on time, as well as doing laundry and getting that mostly folded and put away), but I haven't tackled many of the deep clean and organize things I was hoping to accomplish.
I have been knitting, though, so even though I didn't cast on for the big project I thought would be my Knitvember project, I did start and finish two pairs of socks (posted previously), and I finished a hat that was in time out since August, and I started a new pair of fingerless mitts, and have completed the first one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going to CO the second mitt tonight, and tomorrow I want to go buy yarn to make a pair of socks or slippers for my late husband's mum for Christmas.
Hat pattern is Metallic Magnetism, mitts are Second Skin, both available on Rav

Special shout-out 🖕🏽 to the person who wrote "I just pirate it, that's free" in the comments of the book format poll.
Don't pirate books, y'all. Like seriously, fucking stop it. There's maybe a couple hundred authors in the entire world who make enough money to truly be able to afford the loss.

Today was sunny, so I pruned the roses. Two of them caught bad cases of black spot year before last, so I was pruning off any damaged branches and all foliage to give them a fresh start in the spring. I also policed the yard for invading blackberries, removing them with extreme prejudice (and a shovel).
Finally I pruned the neighbor's tree, a poor creature I've been doing rescue pruning on for the last...three years? Dear Ceres... It got badly butchered by someone who thought you could make a tree smaller by cutting it shorter--spoiler: you can't!--so I've been managing the resulting water sprouts, thinning first to the strongest thirteen (it was a big tree!) and then further pruning to eight new trunks-to-be. Today I removed this year's new water sprouts, limbed up the new trunks, and pruned off the bits headed towards the neighbor's house. It'll never have the grace of the original, but it's looking decent.
If you own your own house, remember that your friend or relative with a chainsaw doesn't necessarily know what the fuck they're doing! There's a certain type, usually male, who just really, really wants to chop something down with that thing!

Today in the penultimate Salty Pirate Adventure of the year, I went four rounds against the oven.
I think it's a tie.
UFyH style, let's do Before and After photos!
Before:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This oven is less than a year old. Its interior ought to be blue. Also, whichever among us three sometimes cooks directly on the grate, we all need to stop that.
(This is going to make my occasional Eggo Lunch more tedious. Worth it to have no more battles like today.)
I followed the directions to do a Steam Clean cycle. It loosened up some of the crud, but nowhere near enough. And I was doing myself an injury as I attempted to use a wet washcloth to wipe away the grease. No matter what I did, some grease continue to be on the wall and the cloth that I was using showed signs of needing to be cleaned.
I therefore made baking soda paste with which I coated all areas that were not heating elements. I left that to think about what it was doing for a quarter of an hour or more while I cleaned one of the oven grates.
I spent an hour and a half trying to wipe away all of the residue. Mostly the baking soda succeeded in breaking up the grease and pulling it away from the oven walls. But now I had a problem of a white film on everything it took repeated runs of completely cleaning out my washcloth and then wiping the entire up and down -- starting at the top rear.
This hurts like the dickens. I don't really bend the ways that I need to bend in order to do this job.
I now understand why it would have occurred to people long ago that an older woman living alone might decide to take a small child and put them inside of the oven. However it would have been a cold oven with cleaning supplies; and the child would have been instructed to reach all the places Auntie or Baba is too old or too disabled to properly scrub.
After:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am not delighted.
I put in more water and ran the Steam Clean cycle an extra time. Even though I got a clean damp towel to wipe everything down as soon as the half hour cycle had finished, I still have some stains. And I still have this white film on the glass.
Unfortunately at this point I am too physically uncomfortable to try anything further.
At least it's safe to use?
I'll give it another go in two days.

Let us end on cats!
First off, high five to everyone who participated in NaClYoHo, regardless of how much you got done or how quickly. Everything you did made your life better! (At least I hope. If it didn’t, you should spend December investigating whether or not you are cursed.) Thanks for playing along with me like always -- and let’s raise a silent toast to the inventer of Barkeeper’s Friend.
Normally I would spend the last day of NaClYoHo trimming the Christmas tree and decorating, but I’m going to be gone for a couple of days beginning tomorrow afternoon and I don’t want to leave the cats alone for days on end with a brand new Shiny Thing To Explore. So I’ll get out the holiday decoration boxes when I get home on Sunday, and instead today I did the traditional Cleaning For The Catsitter. Which was in its own way a good way to end the month, because it was a general tidying-up and taking-stock.
The place looks good! There’s a new electric blanket on the sofa and a new end-table at the end of it. All of my baking supplies now have their own home in the kitchen, which has been reorganized (somewhat) and scrubbed down (already filthy again but that’s kitchens for you). The craft supplies are all organized and stored. The bathroom is clean and has shiny new rugs and mats on the floor, the bedroom closet has been Kondo’d, and all the storage bins in the bedroom have been sorted through. All of the stuff to donate is in boxes in stacks next to the printer so that I can print labels and mail them off, one by one. The front hallway is almost completely clear of junk that’s been there for a year, and the hall closet has new storage bags in it to hold seasonal clothes, so they aren’t inaccessibly shoved under the bed anymore. There’s still a corner of the condo that’s just full of stuff to sort through but the corner is out of the way, and the stuff is not time-sensitive, I’ll get to it soon. Everything the moths got into has either been thrown out or washed thoroughly, and the moths have not been in evidence for at least two weeks.
I have run the dishwasher every single day this month. If I don’t have food to last through the winter at this point it’s not my fault.
And my fancy Christmas present from my folks, a new. compact, not-smelly and very quiet dehydrator, arrived today and has been cleaned and put away. Next farm share box arrives next Wednesday and I am gonna dehydrate the fuck out of at least some of what’s in it, whatever that may be.
[ID: A photograph of my cats, Polk the tabby and Dearborn the tortie, lying on my duvet; for once they do not look super purple. Polk is stretched out in a sphinx-like position, front paws out in front of her, gazing suspiciously at the camera. Next to her, Dearborn is curled up in a ball, back to the camera, but her legs are also stretched out in front of her as if she just flopped down into a curl.]
