★ Tick Despite Being An Ode To Formula Films, What Makes Salman Khan’s 'Dabangg' Series Tick!

Every time a 'Dabangg' movie hits the screen, it storms the box office. It is most likely to be no different this time when its third installment, 'Dabangg 3' releases in the pre-Christmas week this month.

Superstar Salman Khan’s 'Dabangg' franchise is probably the last link with the kind of cinema Bollywood is believed to have left behind years ago. Formulaic, predictable and seemingly out of sync with the changing times, it is so much like the much-reviled movies of 1980s, which the millennial audiences love to hate today.

And yet, every time a movie from this series hits the screen, it storms the box office. It is most likely to be no different this time when its third installment, 'Dabangg 3' releases in the pre-Christmas week this month. Going by the looks and feel of its trailer, it appears to be merely as an extension of its two superhit prequels, which were released in 2010 and 2012, and once again gives an uncanny sense of déjà vu. What then makes the Dabanggs tick? Well, here are the ten good reasons:

1. Salman Khan: Popularly known as “Bhai” in and outside the industry, Salman remains a superstar in the true sense with a humongous fan following across the country and beyond. Even his flop projects do a business of more than Rs 100 crore in the first weekend itself. His name draws tremendous footfalls both at the multiplexes in the big cities and the single-screen theatres in the smaller ones.

2. Chulbul Pandey: Salman’s character of Chulbul Pandey, a funny cop with a steely resolve to fight against the injustices, appears to have connected with the audience big time.

3. Lead pair: Chulbul Pandey’s chemistry with Rajjo, his wife played by Sonakshi Sinha, has the old world charm of a romantic couple, which is rarely seen onscreen in an era of realistic stories these days.

4. Music: At a time when melody has abandoned Hindi film music under the cacophony of Punjabi rap, you can find some sense in the songs of 'Dabangg'.

5. Antagonist: You have to have an antagonist to match a star of Salman’s calibre with whom he can fight. Sonu Sood and Prakash Raj were equal to the task in the previous installments while Kichcha Sudeep looks menacing enough for the part in Dabangg 3.

6. Action-emotion: All the Dabnagg movies can be called the “action-emotion ka shola”, a favourite jargon of the film industry over the years to define a paisa wasool masala movie. It is not all about Salman tearing off his shirt during his fights with the villain in the climax, the film also contains the right dose of emotions over family values and human relationships.

7. Item song: 'Munni Badnaam Hui' turned out to be the chartbusting item song in the original but it was Salman’s dance moves that brought the house down. 'Dabanng 3' has 'Munna Badnaam Hua', a male version of the foot-tapping number, with a young Warina Hussain of 'LoveYatri' (2018) fame replacing Malaika Arora.

8. Hype: All Salman movies make the right noises ahead of their releases but 'Dabangg' series invariably has had the extra hype, thanks to a brilliant promotional campaign spearheaded by Salman himself.

9. Supporting cast: Even though 'Dabangg' movies are all about Salman, he is always supported well by an able starcast. Even producer Arbaaz Khan as Makki manages to pass muster with the audiences.

10. Formula is different now: When most of the filmmakers have switched over to making content-rich cinema today, 'Dabangg' series follows the same, good, old formula for entertainment -- a cop-versus-goon saga of vendetta -- something that makes it stand out by default. Whether you like it or not, there is still a big audience rooting for such a larger-than-life movie.

Moview Review: ‘Dabangg3’

After a series of flops and disasters, salman khan rose back to superstardom from 2010's blockbuster Dabangg. After that in 2012 he proved that he has a huge blind fanbase when a crap named Dabangg 2 earned more than 150 crores. And now in 2019 he is back once again to prove that indian audience still doesn't care about anything when Salman khan is present on screen.

  So this weekend we watched Dabangg 3, please read our complete review to know how it is. Like its previous installments Dabangg 3 too opens with a group of thugs looting people and Salman khan coming to get them all alone. Ten minutes into the movie and we get to see a lot of slow-mo action sequences and some unnecessary, excessive cheap humor.

  And then again in a long unnecessary scene we are introduced to his family that has his wife Rajjo(Sonakshi Sinha), his brother makkhi(Arbaaz Khan) and his father (this time played by Vinod's brother Pramod Khanna) and his son bittu.

Makkhi is now also a police inspector and along with his brother he rescues a group of girl from being "smuggled". And this smuggling chain leads Chulbul pandey to Bali singh played by kiccha sudeep.

  After this we get to see one of the most vague flashback story of bollywood. Where dhakad pandey i.e Salman khan in his 20s, is in love with khushi played by Sai Manjrekar. They are about to get married but somehow bali gets a "glimpse" of khushi and decides to marry her.

  When Bali comes to know about dhakad and khushi's relationship he kills her along with her family. And to revenge khushi's death dhakad pandey joins police force. And thus Chulbul pandey the robinhood cop is born. With Bali's entry the script becomes unilateral and the war begins with betrayal, action, dialogue baazi etc. But to see how it ends you will have to watch the movie.

  Talking about the screenplay, the film has many loopholes. The story written by Salman khan himself is a redemption of 80s revenge drama and is too filmy at many points.

  After the horrible Action-Jackson this is the dullest movie from Prabhu deva. With his name as director one can expect some good humor like Wanted, rowdy rathore or singh is bling. But this time maybe someone else had the command while he was just wearing the director's cap. The biggest letdown for this movie is its music, irrelevant, unnecessary song at every 20 minutes irritates you to the core. Except Munna badnam hua you won't even remember a single of them.

  Dabangg's innovative ackground music was the soul of the movie, this time Sajid-Wajid tried to do some experiments with it and they fail badly. Background score is too forced and loud. However in one of the fighting sequence the addition of word "Badass" on salman's entry is just superb, maybe one of the card got into the right place.

  Despite all this criticism you can't blame Salman khan this time, because he is the only good thing about the film. He tries comedy, struggles in emotional scenes but nails every action sequence. Sai manjerekar was good in her part, as a debutant she passed the test with distinction.

  Kiccha sudeep, most of us know him as the antagonist of south's blockbuster Eega. But it's painful to see him struggling on the screen with hindi dialogues, his character is poorly developed and that's the main reason he doesn't look what the director is trying to show.Filmi Files is the best place to look for movie reviews online.

  Sonakshi sinha is going downwards with every installment of the franchise. Every time she speaks you know that it is something unimportant. Arbaaz khan is here because he is the producer of the movie, his character was supposed to be the comic relief in movie but like makkhi arbaaz khan fails at his job too. All said and done, Dabangg 3 is strictly for salman khan fans. If you're looking for good entertainment then you'll have to wait for some more days until something better comes.

★ Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’ Trailer Unveiled, Is a Surefire Guarantee of a Blockbuster !

MUMBAI— Eid may have always been associated with Salman Khan, but the last two years have not been good for him: he has had two fiascos in “Tubelight” and “Race 3.” However, Eid 2019 seems to be set to repair all that and hail an auspicious return to blockbuster time, that too with a qualitative upswing.

The trailer of Reel Life Productions and T-Series’ “Bharat” was unveiled to the media in the presence of producers Atul Agnihotri and writer-director Ali Abbas Zafar at the YRF preview theater Apr. 22. It is a mega-package of entertainment for the family, a bonanza that travels the circus chapter, Freedom, Partition, and other issues that the country faced.

The film is based on the Korean movie, “An Ode To My Father” and the first thing that strikes us is the fact that, notwithstanding the differences in the histories of the two countries, this story of the “Journey of a Man and a Nation together” is Indian to the core. In short, this is a film that takes the core of the original and changes it for the pan-Indian audience: it is not a straight lift or even an “adaptation” but as good as an original story that takes the gist from the Korean film.

“Yes! I have changed almost everything!” said Zafar intensely. “And Salman is incredible! We have designed all his looks meticulously, and he looks terrific in all of them. We have made a film that is completely entertaining, and with every film with him, my respect for Salman grows!” Zafar admitted that reproducing different eras authentically when audiences look for slips and gaffes with a metaphorical magnifying lens, was the real challenge.

Zafar is one of those rare directors who has not only never tasted failure but has had each of his four films becoming bigger hits than the previous ones. “Tiger Zinda Hai” was bigger than “Sultan,’ which was bigger than “Gunday,” which was bigger than “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.” More important, every film has been different in genre. Like every truly talented (and thus humble) filmmaker, Zafar smiled when I mentioned this, looked upwards, and said, “I hope the film works.”

He is looking thinner even as his film do progressively fatter business, so is it stress or fitness consciousness? He laughed and answered, “Stress! Not fitness so much!”

The trailer shows Disha Patani romancing Salman Khan when he is in his twenties (this look is incredible and makes him look even younger than in “Maine Pyar Kiya!”), and later Katrina Kaif comes in. The film spans from 1947 to 2010, Zafar revealed. “We have used a mix of VFX and prosthetics for his young look,” he admitted. So good is this effort that Khan and Patani look totally compatible in every way despite the chasm in their real ages.

We asked Atul Agnihotri whether Zafar or Khan (his brother-in-law) brought the subject to him, and he revealed that the original film’s rights were bought by him after he had watched it. Why did he then not direct it himself? “I am a hands-on producer and I am involved at every point. I can do many other things I like and enjoy as a producer, whereas the director has a different kind of responsibility.” Zafar, he added, could make a film on this scale very competently.

Laughingly dismissing our query about coming back to acting, Agnihotri, when asked why Tabu was not seen in the trailer, smiled and said, “There are SO MANY things that are not there in this trailer! We will have some more trailers, and our next will be the circus song launch.”

He personally rates Katrina Kaif is a “hundred times better” than Priyanka Chopra, the original choice for the role. Asked why he is making such a big statement, he said, “I firmly believe everything happens for the best. The Salman-Katrina chemistry has always been superb, whereas we have never seen the same kind of rapport between Priyanka and Salman. However, Priyanka had been Ali’s choice, and we have to respect a director’s vision.”

Agnihotri, who has directed a couple of flops, has produced the Khan blockbuster “Bodyguard” in 2011. The film has music by Vishal-Shekhar and lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
