"i didn't know going blind was something to find cute"
Tumblr media
in which you're going blind but you wish you could just straight up not see alhaitham at all anymore -no warnings, just fluff and mutual pining, not proofread, in honor of my vision just getting worse and worse and i snapped my glasses in half ha ha
Tumblr media
reading papers had become increasingly difficult, menus suddenly don't list out your favorite foods, and the boundaries between friendship and romance were starting to blur.
obviously the last statement wasn't the reason for your new glasses but after your fellow classmates tell you it isn't normal to mistake a cat for a rabbit, even if you were almost a mile away, you figured it was time to invest in some spectacles aids.
it was unfortunate that were no such things as alhaitham aids. alhaitham was always complicated to read, from his expressions, opinions to his literal hand writing and especially his actions.
he often walked you back to your office after lunch, claiming that it was on the way anyways. last week in the early morning, he brought you a cup of coffee, saying that the barista made him an extra because he looked tired and refused to drink it just to prove her wrong. one time he even walked over to your office, on his own accord, just to hand you back a measily pen you accidentally left behind.
but of course, these events could easily be read in the other direction. you just happened to be on his path. he didn't want to waste a perfectly drinkable coffee despite his stubbornness. maybe he was in a cleaning mood and needed fresh air and time away from his extremely suffocating office anyways so he just dropped the pen on the way.
alhaitham and you were not dating by any means and that was definite. so you don't understand why you're so hesitant to enter his office. you were just here to pass off some of your students research for the grand sage's approval and nothing else.
it's the repeated scene you see weekly as you enter his office, eyes still stuck on his desk, not wavering at all from your presence, chin rested on his folded fingers supported by his elbow on the table and his nose bridge slightly scrunched in annoyance because of the massive workload constantly covering his table.
"i have more reports that need your approval." you start, trying to shift his attention.
"sure, how many? if there isn't a lot i can sign them off right now for you." he only nods at words.
you mind can't help but hang on the last two words. was he implying only for you? just you? you needed to snap out of it, alhaitham doesn't see people as individuals or even cared enough to try, you know that.
but deep down you can't help it. even this simple favor felt special, only because it was coming from alhaitham. this could easily just be him trying to get you out of his hair as fast as possible, or it could be a special favor he'd only do for you. you really couldn't tell from him.
"four." you count through the stacks as you try to avoid glancing at him in fear of staring too long. he was almost too easy on the eyes, especially when he's focused.
"i'll just do them right now then," he then looks up at you, just briefly as he stretches out hand ready to take the papers from you. "i just brewed some tea, help yourself to a cup while you wait."
did he often offer his tea to others? did he instantly prioritize anyone's work as long at they just enter his office? are these actions normal? for him? you pour yourself a cup of tea as you rest on his couch and ponder these thoughts.
"you got new glasses." he interrupts flatly, as if he's just noting an observation in the reports he's reviewing.
you can't help even noting the way he says you. it's very rare for the sentences that alhaitham says "you" in to be not followed by a critique or insult.
"well they're on my face and have never been before right?" you say back, reflecting his tone. "but i guess i'm surprised you even noticed."
"they're cute."
you almost spit out your drink. you didn't expect "cute" to be within his vocabulary bank or if he even had the neurotransmitter to help him translate what things were actually cute to him in his brain.
"what?" you scoff, almost stuttering as you try to hide your aghast. "i didn't know going blind was something to find cute, only you would think that."
"your interpretations of my statements are incorrect," he still does not face you, shifting through the papers much too casually. "i find that the frame of your new glasses gives you a new enhancement to your overall attractiveness."
leave it to him to make sure his point is always made, completely bulldozing over your efforts at avoiding his blatant compliment.
"thanks?" you offer, unable to form a more educated response you normally give him.
"is that a question?" he asks, seemingly puzzled by your reaction. "you don't have to thank me if you prefer not to though i do appreciate your opinions as much as you do mine."
"no i just," you attempt to start as he clears his throat.
he finally looks at you, eyebrow raised. he puffs his bangs out of his face so that both his eyes are directly looking at you, analyzing your flushed face, eyes widened only by a smidge and mouth agape. for some odd reasons, he feels a sort of satisfaction eliciting a reaction like this from you, but has yet been able to pinpoint why.
"i just wasn't expecting the word cute to be within your dictionary," you clear your throat and push your glasses back up on your nose bridge in order to compose yourself again. "you surprised me, that is all."
"is this a case of when women refuse compliments from the man they like?" he chuckles, still repeating your moment of daze in his mind, as if he was trying to ingrain it in his brain instead of reading the reports like he promised you.
"woah woah," you start, completely blindsided from this almost exposure of your feelings you were not ready to admit. "slow your horses, who said i liked you?"
"y/n, i am no idiot but i didn't think you were though."
"what is that suppose to mean?"
"it's simple really," he noted as he finally sets the papers down. "i like you, you like me."
"i did not take you for a man to assume conclusions like this," you say with as much poise you have left in you, completely ignoring his candid confession. "what makes you think i like you?"
"actions, reactions, your words," he simply states, not going into any detail at all. "are you going to keep denying it?
"you know what, i'll just come back for the reports later." you start getting up, refusing to look him the eyes. you knew your dignity was starting to fall and you were not ready for alhaitham to pick it up and hand it back to you along with the small pieces of your heart you've scattered in this room.
with a huff you turn to the door. dusting yourself off, you reach for the doorknob, trying to get out of this suddenly stuffy and warm room.
"no need," you can hear him shifting in his chair as signaled by the screech it made. "i'll swing by after your evening lecture. speaking of, you should really change the time of that lectu-"
"you will not, i do not want to see you."
"but i do." he continued. "you can't really refuse the acting grand sage's attendance for a lecture check in, can you now?"
completely frazzled now, you just dash out the door before he can say anything else, leaving him completely proud and satisfied with your interaction.
he couldn't wait to see your reaction when he enters the lecture, excited by the idea of seeing you flustered for him again.
as your racing back to your office, you take off your glasses, hoping that somehow the vision of alhaitham just shamelessly flirting with you would just completely disappear.

RENJUN’S BROKEN MELODY: REGULUS
NCT DREAM’S BROKEN MELODIES
Tumblr media
Renjun taps his fingers on the oak wood table in front of him, nervous for what's to come. The minimal aesthetic and the openness of the café provided him some sort of comfort knowing that if this went well they could return once more and have another date and if it went poorly he could leave without any obstacles in his way with a clear path to the exit.
He carefully takes a sip of his hot drink to pass the time, after taking the sip he hold the cup in front of his lips before taking another one, making a mental note to order this drink again regardless of the outcome today.
The bell next to the door chimes much like it did when he came in, his eyes wander to the door and he sees a girl stumbling in. A dark blue satchel sat across her body, clearly stuffed with too many items, and a brown paper in her left hand, she had clearly been holding it for a while as it was creased and crumpled around the handle. A sage green long sleeve shirt was tucked into white denim shorts. Her style alone told Renjun this would go well.
Her eyes widened when she spotted him sat in the middle of the room, a smile makes its way to her face and his expression matches hers almost immediately. The smile doesn’t leave her face as she rushes to sit in front of him, she takes the satchel off and hangs it on the back of her chair before sitting down and placing the brown bag in her lap.
The girl reaches her hand out, "Hi! I'm Minji! I believe Chenle set us up?" The smile never leaving her face.
Renjun takes her hand and shakes it, "Hi, yes he did. I'm Renjun."
"Before we start, Chenle mentioned you liked art so I though I'd give you this. I'm not sure if you'll like it but I wanted to get it for you regardless." Minji hands Renjun the brown bag in her lap and he carefully takes it.
He reaches into the bag only to pull out a 9x12 canvas with a yellow tulip on in. Just by looking at it he could tell it was done with acrylic paint and modelling paste. It was zoomed in with the stem, leaves and bottom half of the petals being shown with barely any white left uncovered on the canvas. The detail was incredible, Renjun was unsure if he could replicate this himself. His fingers dragged over the painting, completely mesmerised by the painting. His eyes flicked to the corner of the painting for the artist however he found nothing.
Yellow was his favourite colour, tulips... you loved tulips. Yellow tulips became a statement piece in your household. Eventually you grew to love yellow, ditching orange a you favourite colour when Renjun began to call you his 'yellow'.
But that was long ago, he needed to let you go now, he wants to try again. He wants to try again with Minji.
"I got it at a market," she interjects softly "a teenage girl made it. She was selling her paintings to try and afford an easel." He listens closely and nods.
"I love it." He finally tears his eyes away from the painting and looks at Minji. "I'm going to hang this up when I go home." Renjun smiles genuinely and places the painting next to him, leaning it on the table leg.
"I didn't get you anything, I'm sorry. In return I'll pay for your drinks and food today." She hums in agreement and stands up, Renjun follows suit and picks up his wallet.
The pair walk up to the oak counter in silence. Minji's eyes scan the chalkboard hung on the back wall intently trying to pick a drink. She mumbles under her breath about wanting them all because they all sound good. Renjun catches wind of her comment and lets out a quiet laugh at her.
The barista walks up to the counter and waits expectantly. "Please could I have..." she drags out her words, still pondering "an iced macha green tea latte please?" The staff member replies with something about getting right to it as they push the order into the till and pushes the card reader to the pair. Renjun opens his wallet and gets out the change to pay. The barista takes the money and pulls back the card reader.
An iced macha green tea latte. Your order. Renjun never understood the appeal for green tea and making it a latte just doesn't sound the best either. You used to make an excuse for your constant consumption of them, saying that you need them to get through checking book drafts and that you wouldn't work without them so Renjun would give in and make you one.
They both stayed quiet as the drink was being made, once it was made Minji took it and the silence followed them as they sat back at their table.
"So... besides art what else are you into?" Minji sips her drink.
Renjun looks up and thinks. "I like museums and art galleries. I know it's art but I also like pottery classes. I enjoy music too, my friends say I have a pretty voice. Making jewellery is really fun too." He smiles. "What about you? I feel like I've only spoken about myself."
Minji immediately brightens up, "I like volunteering and crocheting, sewing too and I make my own clothes! I'm also big into reading!" Renjun nods, recalling Chenle telling him. "My favourite author is probably YUNGLUV! I have all their books, that's why my bag is fo full right now!" She beams.
His mind goes fuzzy at the mention of your writing name. Everything goes to quickly and he can vividly make out Minji taking out a book from her bag and reach it over the table to him and he takes it.
"This is their most recent, 'Warm tones'. I don't know what it's about yet but it sounds beautiful. Read the blurb, I think you'll enjoy it." She offers.
'It was sunrise when we fell in love. 6:18am. You took me out to a picnic spot on the hills, you said we should eat breakfast together because it would prepare you for the job interview you had that day. I said the sun on your face was pretty and you said I was pretty regardless.
A moment of silence followed before you confessed your love, I did the same before we sealed it with a kiss.
It was sunset when you told me you fell out of love. 9:24pm. We were eating dinner on the patio, I said we should eat together out there because you hadn't been home in the past few days. I said I love you and was sorry for being so busy and you said you couldn't lie to me and didn't love me.
A moment of silence followed before I said I know, you picked up our empty plates and went inside to leave me alone once again.'
"They don't usually write love stories, or ones written in first person so I thought I'd buy it." Minji tries to break the silence but she gets nothing back, his eyes trained onto the words. "You can keep that copy if you want. I got a few so I could get a signed copy, crazy I know."
Renjun gives a quick polite smile, giving the book one last look and then placing it next to the painting on the floor.
Tumblr media
Renjun continuously presses the button outside of the elevator to call it to the ground floor, your book is gripped tightly in his left hand with his knuckles turning white.
"Oh Renjun!" He hears a familiar voice call. "It's been a whi-"
"Not now Hyeongsub." He sternly replies, not even sparing him a galnce.
Ding.
The familiar sound causes him to stop pushing the button and walk through the elevator door as soon as it opens. Hyeongsub followed suit and stood next to him.
Renjun doesn't even ask where he's going, already knowing it's the 12th floor seeing as he's your secretary. He punches the correct button and stands there angrily. He glares down at the book in his hand and your secretary sees this as a sign to keep his mouth shut.
The generic music in the background becomes increasingly infuriating for Renjun. His grip tightens on the book and he quickly turns to Hyeongsub.
"Why didn't you tell me? You would have known. You would have been there when it was written. Why didn't you tell me?" He says accusingly.
He takes a deep breath before responding, "You remain anonymous and it's nothing incriminating. The only people that could figure it out are you, your friend and f-"
"You should have told me the second you knew she was writing about us. You're my friend." He cuts him off.
"Yes, but I was her friend first." He replies bluntly as the doors open. "I'll let-"
"Don't." Renjun storms out of the elevator, past his once friend and heads straight to your office.
He knocks and enters without a second thought. You look up from the paper files in front of you, ready to greet whoever came in but he comes to your desk and drops the hard cover book before you can say anything.
"Explain." He stares you down.
"Why?" You fire back, matching his energy right away.
"I deserved to know you were writing this."
"You don't deserve shit Renjun."
He sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.
"You left me, Renjun." You stand up to come face to face with him. "I didn't leave you, you left me. Why would I go out of my way to get a hold of you?"
"You can't just write about me like this, Y/N, what aren't you getting?" He tries to argue back, although he point doesn't stand strong he has to know.
You push aside the paper files and pick up the book he dropped. You put it against his chest, "Did you even read it? Hm, Renjun? Did you give the stupid book a read?" He hold the book against his chest and drop your hand. He shakes his head slowly and you let out a sarcastic breathy laugh.
"Get out." You command. "I'm not doing this with you, get out."
"If you're writing about our relationship or anything to do with me you need to tell me. I shouldn't be left in the dark about anything." He puts the book back down, this time with lead force but still feuled by anger.
You turn around and faced the large window behind your desk. "Get out, Renjun."
He walks around your desk and tails behind you. "You can't leave me out of decisions about us, not again."
"Leave it, Renjun. I've asked once, I'm not asking again." You walk to the other side of the window but he follows once again.
"I deserve to know, our relationship was two people, you and me so I should know when you're using our story-"
You turn around to face him "What else was I supposed to do?" You shout with tears in your eyes. "You were never there, Renjun. What was I supposed to do for days alone?"
He's taken back by your sudden tears but ignores them completely and putting it down to you being frustrated. The urge to comfort you was insane but he had to push it down before he said anything back to you.
"I was alone for days! I just wanted to relive what we had! Being lonely isn't a crime!" You shouted at him, being done his entitled behaviour.
Your eyes met, your intense gaze pierced through his now seemingly soft one. Sympathy seeping through his eyes.
“I, Renjun, had to stay home alone for days, by myself, I-I just wanted to relive what he had.” You say, wiping your tears. “You promised you would never make me feel like that but you did so I did the only think I knew how to do.”
He points to the book, "It was written out of hurt?" He looks back at the book and walks to the desk, picking it up. He analyses the cover and then flips it over to read the back much like he did earlier.
Renjun's fingers graze over the back before opening it and flicking to a random page. Page 148:
'June 17th 2021: We had our first fight, our first in three years actually. You said I shouldn't get so close to your friends and I said I couldn't help it.
"He likes you!" You shouted.
I pushed your hand off my wrist. "How do you know? Has he said that to you? No. So drop it, p-'
He slams the book shut and silently winces at the memory. Mark used to like you however he never made a move out of respect for both of you, yet once Renjun caught win of it through Jaemin he saw nothing but red and put his own insecurity on you.
"It's the story of us?" He looked up, tears now in his eyes.
"What else was I supposed to do?" You replied quietly. "I didn't know how to talk to you about it so I just let you fall out of love, I didn't know if I could convince you to stay so I let you go."
"You let me go?"
"Look, Renjun, you need to leave."
"I can't. Not after hearing this. I'll go back and read this and I don't want to because I'll see how much I hurt you." He shakes his head, still holding the novel.
"You've hurt me enough, you need to go."
"No!"
"Renjun, you left! You walked away! Quit playing the victim and get out!"
"I said I didn't love you anymore because I thought we were drifting apart but that hurt too much to admit." He reasoned.
"Quit making excuses and leave!" You walk to the desk opposite to Renjun and pulled the book out of his hand.
"I understand if-!
"Jun, you don't understand, you never understood me, you never tried to understand me! You said we used to have our little bubble and that the world was all about us but it wasn't it was about you! The whole time it was about you! What about me?" You broke down.
He reaches out to comfort you, placing his hand on your shoulder and stroking it with your thumb. He had nothing to say, he wasn't even sure what he could say to you either. He was the cause for all of this and yet here he was, being beyond pathetic. Renjun watched you sob into your hands as you shake off his hand.
"I was wrong. I know I was wrong. I apologise." He straightens himself up and backs away from your desk. "I shouldn't have come here."
"You shouldn't have." You wipe your tears once again. “You had no reason to.” You state, wiping your wet hands onto your blazer.
“I had no reason to be angry, I guess just you writing something so poorly about me hurt. I know I’m not like that but you saw me like that, you were supposed to love me.” He scrunched his nose in order to prevent himself from getting any sadder.
“And I did. It just wasn’t the same.”
Renjun looks back at the door before turning around. He balls his fists, not really sure why but he does it regardless.
His slow steps towards the exit are painful. Part of you wants to beg him to stay but the other wishes he was out of your life for good. Loving him wasn’t worth the heartbreak it caused you, you couldn’t do it all over again.
He grabbed the handle and waited for you to say something, nothing came so he pushed down the handle and opened the door. This was either going to be him walking out for good or both of you taking it as a sign to try again.
“We could relive what we had once more?” He offered, quietly.
“Would you love me the way you used to?” You questioned.
Silence.
“Everything reminds me of you yet… it hurts, not in a way where I miss you but in a way where I wish we closed it off better.” He thinks out loud.
You nod although he can’t see you, “There’s your answer then, Jun. It’s not worth the hassle.”
He pushes the handle down and quickly takes his exit, you can barely hear the door close when he shuts it.
You look down at the book resting on your desk and tears build up in your eyes. Sitting down you pick up the book and inspect it the way Renjun had done so earlier.
“You came here for what? Idiot.” You whisper and drop it into the small trash can below your desk. Quickly you begin organising the files and drafts on your desk, trying to pull yourself together.
Staring at the large phone situated on your desk you contemplate dialling Chenle’s number. You ponder a little longer before punching in his number.
Ring. Ring.
You slam the phone down onto the holder, hanging up before he gets the chance to pick up.
Maybe it’s best if you push him to move on, that way you can do so yourself.

It was ten times darker outside than it would be during a regular downpour. The clouds were so heavy that it seemed to be the evening time when it was just the late morning. The pitter-patter of rain was mild to begin with, but as Mira brewed the coffee, it picked up in speed and fell heavier against the rooftop. She thought that it would let up after a few minutes and she’d get past the worst of it.
She grew nervous once she heard the faint grumble of thunder in the distance. She was shaken from her thoughts when she heard the coffee maker beep, taking the mug out from under the spout.
She swirled the liquid around with the straw, admiring the sage color of the matcha latte in her hand. It was times like these when she was thankful for her barista skills. She had to get a job once she and Handong settled in Korea and were lucky enough to land a position at the cafe near their university.
Mira came back to Wonwoo’s room with the drink, careful not to spill any, and walking slowly to his bed.
“Careful, it might spill over.” She had a towel under the mug, watching him take it with his delicate hands. “It’s not too hot either.”
She sat down on the edge of the bed, seeing his smile as he put the ceramic to his lips to drink the latte so it wasn’t overflowing anymore. He widened his eyes at how good it tasted.
Even though she wasn’t a coffee person, she had made many types of espresso drinks in the past, but it was her first time serving Wonwoo and using coffee and matcha together.
“How is it?” She never liked to taste it herself, so she had to rely on his word to determine if it was good or not.
“I could drink this every day,” He nodded, taking another sip before speaking. “Do you think you could make it for me each morning? Or teach me?”
“Of course. It’s really simple actually.” The thunder rumbled, and her smile wavered for a moment. She tried to ignore it, feeling her shoulders tense up. The sound robbed Mira of her composure as her eyes glanced at the window. “Does it taste good?”
She was doing her best to distract herself from the storm building up outside that it didn’t register in her mind that he had already answered her question. His expression was soft until he tilted his head like a confused puppy.
“It’s really good, Mira. I bet if you tasted it right now, you would love it. And I know how much you hate coffee.” He shifted a bit, coming into her field of vision that was focused on the window. She forced herself out of the trance, making eye contact with him as she tried to brush the anxiety off.
“Good. Really good!” Now she was only trying to convince herself that everything was fine. It was anything but.
Another rumble followed, closer this time. The noise made her shiver, goosebumps forming on her skin as her shoulders shrugged.
“Are you cold?” Wonwoo put his hand on her arm, rubbing up and down to give her some of his heat.
“Maybe a little.” She chuckled nervously. She would have felt safer with even a thin layer separating her from the storm.
“Here.” He reached for the blanket that hung off the edge of his bed, unfolding it and covering her shoulders with it. He smiled before sitting back down and taking another sip of the coffee.
“Thank y-“ A sudden flash of lightning illuminated the room, Mira’s body instinctively flinching and slapping her hands against her ears. The blanket fell off her shoulders as she covered her ears and waited for the crash to sound through his apartment.
Wonwoo shuddered, off put by her sudden movements. He saw the lightning but found it rather interesting than terrifying. He didn’t catch on immediately until the sound of the lightning finally struck, a big boom echoing through the apartment. It wouldn’t be surprising if a picture that hung on the wall was not level after the storm.
He watched the clouds flicker as it rained harder, blowing air past his lips and turning back to her. His eyes widened as she now had her knees tucked into her chest, her eyes closed with her fingers pressed to her ears as she shook.
“Hey hey hey,” He scooted closer to her, his hands resting on her knees as she flinched again. She opened her eyes and was relieved to see Wonwoo’s face. “It’s just a little thunder. It’s all right.”
Her eyes looked glassy as he wrapped his arms around her gently. He’s never seen her look so terrified.
“S-sorry,” She still had her hands against her ears, amplifying her heartbeat. He pulled her closer as she moved her legs out of the way, cradling her head to his chest.
“Don’t apologize.” His thumb brushed against her hand, resting his chin on top of her head. “Are you scared of thunder?”
Even though he sounded muffled, she could still hear him very well. She nodded. “Irrationally.”
Wonwoo shook his head, rocking them back and forth as his palm tapped her head. “Not irrational at all. That was a loud one.”
“My mother told me when they’re loud like that, it was God’s way of letting me know he was angry with me.” She let one of her hands drop to his shirt, clutching it between her fingers. Wonwoo tensed, keeping quiet as she was offering him insight into her childhood.
She never voluntarily gave anyone information about her that would make her seem vulnerable like that. She only told people that she was certain wouldn't turn on her like that. Her father, her members, and especially Handong.
Wonwoo was the next person she decided she would let in. As much as he gave to her, she wanted to meet him in the middle. He deserved that much. And maybe it would even lessen her load.
“I’ve always hated storms. But when I moved to Wuhan, the lightning was unlike anything back in Hong Kong. Frequent and unbearably loud.” She relaxed more and more against him, shutting her eyes.
“Mira, I’m so sorry.” He whispered against her hair as he frowned.
“I just don't like sudden, unexpecting loud noises. I hate fireworks but I grin and bear it onstage. I thought it was normal until I met Handong.”
He always knew there was something about her upbringing that had left its mark on her. And now he was putting the pieces of the puzzle together. He wouldn’t press anymore unless she gave it up herself.
Wonwoo pushes her shoulders back, distancing the two as he leaned his head down and searched her eyes. He cupped her cheeks, smiling before pressing a kiss to her forehead.
“I genuinely believe that there’s nothing you could do that would upset Mother Nature that much.” He manages to get a tiny grin out of her, kissing her forehead once more. “She just gets sad sometimes. And that’s not your fault, Mira.”
She was way past that point in her life. Mira knew that she didn’t dictate the weather. What hurts more is knowing that a mother would convince her own child of something so bizarre to force them into behaving.
“Maybe she sneezes and that’s where the lightning comes from.” Both of her hands were away from her ears, placed in Wonwoo’s lap as they sat knee to knee.
“So the lightning is her snot?” He snorts, tracing down her nose with his finger.
“The clouds could be her tissues then.” She suggests. “But wouldn’t that mean that her snot went through the tissues?”
He threw his head back laughing. He was distracting her without even knowing it.
“What if she just was walking around up there and stubbed her toe?” He gestured up with his finger, raising one of his eyebrows. Mira squinted as if she felt the pain of stubbing her toe herself.
She sees another flash behind him, moving sharply and slapping her hands to her ears again. He doesn’t count from the time the flash is seen to when it finally voices its presence, he just leans forward, pressing his palms to the back of her hands to block out the sound more.
“Shhh, you’re fine. I got you.” One of his hands lowers to rub her back. The couple sit on the bed for a few moments before he ensures that she is settled down.
He gets up from the mattress, making his way over to the window and pulling the curtains shut. She watches as he scavenges his desk for items. He plugs his headphones into the gaming device before plopping down on his bed and sitting against the pillows.
“Come here,” He motions toward himself with a welcoming smile, his legs open wide and she knew what he was intending. She smiles, grabbing the blanket, and crawling toward him. She wrapped herself with the fabric before turning away from him, pressing her back to his chest as he places the headphones on her.
He holds the device in front of her, letting her take it before wrapping his arms around her. She lets a sigh of relief escape her, browsing all the games he has installed. She goes with the safest option, knowing she’ll be too focused to care about the storm outside.
She hears the familiar music play as she opens Mario Kart. She also feels the vibration of his chest as he chuckles. Wonwoo makes sure not to sabotage her by moving too much. Instead, when she ranks first place, he squeezes her tighter and stretches his head in between the crook of her neck to give her congratulatory kisses.
Even if she placed second, third, fourth, or even eighth place, he would still smother her in kisses at any given moment.

So I have this idea of a little fluff-based AU me and my partner came up with out of the fact that all I’ve really seen if Norman and his late boyfriend Reilly in terms of fanfiction would be angst or just pure tragedy.
So basically in this AU Norman Jayden is a flower shop owner and his bf Jack Reilly is a coffee shop owner. The two of them bond through a collaboration of Norman helping jack’s small coffee shop flourish through vibrant flowers that grow throughout spring as well as a traditional homey cafe with a warm beverage.
It’s kind of my first time writing something to do with Norman dialogue-wise, so I have no idea whether I’ve got his character right or not; so to get to know his character and perhaps look for criticism, I’ve written a one-shot.
Please provide criticism for dialogue and let me know how I can improve!! ^^
(EDIT: I GOT IT POSTED ON AO3!! Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/53010700)
A proposition.
The coffee owner initiates cleanup the moment he feels the presence of frequent visitors is bare as a desert; swiping dirty tables and crumbs sluggishly, missing the ever few stains of bitter coffee but remaining unbothered. Although more sluggish than usual, he remains oblivious to the observing presence of a flower shop owner, following his moves with his soft and admiring expression, gleaming through his sage-green eyes.
Jack gives up at the sign of his blind movement, missing the small bits and bobs of stains and ceramic plates, straying to the spruce counter to slouch over and reflect, covering his cracking facade with his trembling hands.
Norman notices this, perking up curiously as he snaps out of his trance. At the first sign of vulnerability, he gets up from his spot in the corner, heading to check up on the gloomy coffee owner.
“You look downtrodden tonight. What’s eating at you?”
He broke the cold silence that loomed the closed up and dimly lit shop.
Reilly straightens, his startled eyes looking at Norman like he was a deer staring at headlights.
“I-it’s nothing really. Just had a bad day, I guess.” He answered reluctantly.
Although reluctance was shown, he takes his face out of his hands still creating a tremor as if he were watered down to nothing but a bundle of shivers.
“O-okay, maybe there is something that’s ‘eating away at me’, as you put it.” Jack quivered, giving in to his own emotional state.
Norman’s eyes remain on Reilly, waiting for the burdened barista to speak his words, nodding softly as to remain attentive.
“I don’t think I can do this anymore. Fuck, everyone’s leaving for the café around the corner. Students who used to study here and used to frequent for a good cuppa’ have vanished, and as I walk, they’re chatting away and working at the ‘haba de café’, as they call it. (I ran out of name ideas.)
I can’t even keep it running with all the cost of good quality beans inflating, or the constant remarks about how the haba de cafe is so much better than this run-down place, with their modern decor of fake and artificial flowers, or posters with LED borders.
I might just shut down this place. Find a new apartment and just work a typical 9-5. It’s tiring trying to keep a positive and optimistic passion for this place, when no one wants to see it.” Jack rambled. His face paints with distraught at the thought of being unable to pursue his passion, instead having to go to a boring job in a cheap apartment.
“Hey. Listen.”
A reassuring hand from Norman lands on Jack’s, causing him to glance at the flower shop owner.
“I’ve seen what this place does, and it has potential. Just because some new coffee shop opened up by some wealthy bastard who wants to leech more money off of loyal customers, doesn’t mean you should put yourself down. If anythin’, you shouldn’t even bother comparing yourself to that place. They’ve got more than one person working, meanwhile you’re a one-man management. You work with enthusiasm and it shows in the drinks and the food just how much love was put into it. It’s why people frequent this place. The quiet atmosphere and the homey aroma of this place is what’s so great about it.” Norman reassured, his tone soft-spoken and attentive.
Jack loosens up, his eyes glancing to the polished countertop, staring at the dim reflection of his inverted counterpart.
“That’s what I intended to create.. a quiet yet homely atmosphere..” He cuts himself off, as if something was ignited in the barista, his eyes lighting up in realisation.
“W-why was i getting so worked up for, in that case? This isn’t about the profit, or gaining money. It was just that I wanted to create this environment, intended for everyone to use, to feel at peace as if they’re just at home, about a hot beverage in the cold winter, creating a warm feeling after a chilly day. I was only getting started! Although.. what can I do? It’s going to remain unchanged even if I regain my love for the relaxed atmosphere of a traditional cafe with hand-brewed coffee.” Jack questioned, glancing at Norman.
“I was thinking of a proposition between you and I. Something that could benefit the both of us.” The florist replied, carefully contemplating the words to say to the coffee shop owner, slowly breaking eye contact with him.
“I could help decorate your place, if you’d like. Since valentine’s is around the corner, as well as spring, the flowers are at their optimum and lovestruck teenagers would be buying roses for their significant others. It could benefit the both of us; allowing promotion of my shop, and attraction to your place.” Norman eventually offered, his observant yet hesitant eyes attempting to gauge the reaction of the barista.
Reilly lit up like a star; the happiest he’s been since he opened the place.
“Are you shitting me?! It’s a perfect idea! It’s just the thing I need! Botany, to add some flourish, life to this place! Externally and internally! You fucking genius!” Reilly grips Norman’s loose hand on his into the form of a handshake, moving it firmly before pulling the florist into a hug.
Norman flinched at the sudden physical showcase of gratitude, but something inside him felt warm, the warmth of being able to possibly revive and bring this cafe back in business.

— jesse el-massalamy the midnight club. prompt: celebration.
It wasn't often that Sage wandered outside of Claret and even when she did, it was mostly to Bighorn to either drop Maggie off at her dad's or hit the mountain trails and sometimes downtown. But the idea of a cute lowkey Valentine's coffee date with her daughter at The Midnight Club was too good to pass up, especially when she wasn't going to see her that weekend while the toddler was with her father. Every second spent with Maggie was a second she cherished and it was always fun to get out of the house and teach the tiny monster how to be a human being in typical social situations. Thankfully, it didn't take much wrestling to get the toddler into a nice outfit, even managing to sneak a red bow into her blonde curls before they left the house and made their way to The Midnight Club. The event was cute, the coffee shop decorated from head to toe for the season, and the music that floated from the live acoustic artist on the stage, soft love songs that couldn't help but make her think of the weekend to come, were just quiet enough for her to place her order with the barista at the counter. "Just a black coffee, no room," Sage requested. Glancing at his name tag, she could see the name Jesse written in a fancy print, but could never quite figure out whether it would be weird to address a barista or waiter by their name (part of the reason why she asked her girls at The Jagged Yard to decide on a work name) and instead questioned, "And, uh, if we could have a warm milk with a pump or two of toasted marshmallow, it would make her day." The older blonde tickled the stomach of the toddler on her hip teasingly, nose scrunched in an amused expression, before her gaze fell back to the barista. Her attention was momentarily snagged by a loud cheering not far off, a group of clearly happy people drowning out the musing. "Sounds like someone is celebrating something," She commented off hand, missing exactly what had happened prior.

You can then take the 3 pieces that make up the front tray apart to give them a quick wipe down.Īlthough at first you may not notice that it has gotten dirty over time small amounts of coffee grinds and splashed coffee will splash into the tray, meaning it’s more than just clean water collecting in there. Take the front tray out and pour the water into the sink. Which is dangerous if you’ve recently heated water as hot condensation will drop down the back of the machine! This just shows the attention to detail on these machines and stops you having to put your hand to the back. You should notice that pulling the front tray will also drag the back-tray out too. Simply pull it towards you by the cut-out handle at the bottom. When the “empty me” sign raises up it’s time for a quick clean of the entire tray. It’s actually also collecting condensation from the condensation pipe at the back of the machine, and this is happening every time you heat water, either through the coffee filter, the direct water spout or the steam wand. You may wonder why you’re collecting so much water when hardly any has dripped from the machine as you are using it. You’ll notice that an “empty me” sign will pop up from the front of the drip tray (shown above) when it begins to fill with water.

They are just different brand names for different markets. Something you may not have known - Breville and Sage are actually the same. In this video, you’ll learn about the four main areas that you’ll need to keep an eye on to effectively maintain your home espresso machine. You spent a lot of money on your coffee machine, so we recommend taking a little time to clean it properly which will keep it not only looking nice but also functioning in good condition for many years to come. Some, however, such as the grinder and water tank, will only need to be cleaned once every two or three weeks. As a general rule, if you’re making between two and five cups of coffee a day, you need to clean most parts once a week. Secondly, regularly cleaning and maintaining your espresso machine will help it last longer.Ĭleaning and maintenance covers all aspects of your machine, from cleaning your group head and steam wand to descaling and regularly changing the water filter.
