Randomly watching the end of Free!'s first season and:

This anime is so fucking gay it's actually ridiculous ok? The amount of tension between Rin and Haru in just the theme songs is like brother if those two are just friends then I am a refrigerator. We get the classical romantic eye reflection on the opening for christ's sake

The way Rei looks up to his Haruka-senpai is so touching and it makes Rei so protective of Haru he's one of the few people that actually sum up strength and call Rin out on his bullshit, which makes me really sad we don't get enough of Rei and Haru's friendship

And because of that and knowing Rei and Rin get closer later on, we just know Rei is the one that gets fed up with Rin and Haru tiptoeing around each other and throw it in their faces (while everyone else just aprehensively watches) that all they have to do is fucking talk because their feelings are mutual and obvious to everyone but themselves (Rei would be more classy of course)

It's very painful realising all over again how much Rin's childhood in Australia was hard because first season Rin is nothing like the real Rin. The amount of pent up anger is absurd, it actually gave me chills. And don't get me wrong, I know Rin has some real anger issues and we still see it later in the story but punching-and-kicking-bins-Rin?? Scarily worrying, that's some strong trauma game there and it makes his development through the series even more meaningful (the night pool versus first season rolling around on the ground??)

And Rin's got Haru on the palm of his hand really. Boy's so whipped he loses any inhibition when it comes to Rin like we got reserve, quiet Haru running to Rin without even thinking, screaming bloody murder in the street 'cause he can't miss the chance of swimming with Rin again? You're gay. You're gay and your boyfriend is your impulse control

The most empathetic person in the world, his ability to connect and understand people always helps to unite the group even more

He never gave up and managed to get Rei into the swim club and practically changed his life doing that

He was literally the one who got fed up with the miscommunication problems between Rin and Haru (and well, the rest of the team) and confronted Rin to tell him his truths, and if it wasn't for that NOTHING WOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED

He was the one who told Haru the right words for him to realize his feelings ("I want to swim with Rin") and gave in if put in the relay (THE RELAY THAT WAS SO SO IMPORTANT FOR THE TEAM AND AAAAAAH)

THE BEST AND WORTHY SUCCESSOR CAPTAIN OF THE IWATOBI TEAM ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

Recruited and inspired new members and didn't let the club disappear!!

Tutored Nagisa to raise his grades so he could stay on the team

His training with Rin in order to surprise his teammates and improve the performance of the team

Do I have to say that he is a rinharu stan? isnt obvious?

Goro-chan:

Great swimming teacher, literally thanks to him is that Nagisa, Haru and Makoto know how to swim well in the first place

Makoto's father figure (this is more of a hc and something I wish would have been explored more but I'm still putting it in)

He always believed that the boys could go far and gave them his full support when the swimming club was just starting

Provided pizza to the team (very important lmao)

He literally witnessed the entire angst moment between Rin and Haru (when Rin camel back from Australia im talking abt THE MOMENT) and if it wasn't for him, Makoto would never have found out what happened

rebuilt the swim club and is literally helping the new generation to enjoy swimming

Thanks to the job he offered Makoto, he found his dream (AND THAT IS SOMETHING SO IMPORTANT 😭)

Literally the teacher who gave the swim club the green light and who did all the administrative stuff to make it possible.

She always gave great advice (in the form of a proverb but advice nonetheless).

In most competitions she was there supporting the boys
