Cover Story (Final Rose)
"I’m never quite sure whether I should be flattered or insulted that I’m your favourite cover story.” Claire took a sip of her hot chocolate and then reached for a scone. “Although I won’t say no to some free food.”
Weiss took a deep breath and savoured the scent of her freshly brewed coffee. “A great many people would be honoured to go on a date with the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company.” She lifted her coffee to her lips.
“Then why not ask Ruby to come with you next time?”
The spray of coffee from Weiss’s mouth would have made a spectacular mess if Claire hadn’t used a well-practiced application of her Semblance to vaporise it.
“What?” Weiss spluttered. “I... but... gah!” She wiped her mouth with a napkin and then glared, inordinately glad that she’d secured a private booth for this ‘date’. “You’re a terrible person, and you’ve been spending entirely too much time around Jahne.”
“Jahne would have waited until you were eating something to see if she could make you choke.”
Weiss huffed. “Yes, I suppose she would have.” She gave Claire another glare and took a cautious sip of what was left of her coffee. “But Ruby is neither here nor there.”
“You do realise that your father most likely wouldn’t object. Ruby is, after all, hunter royalty. Her parents are members of Team STRQ, which might just be the second most famous team in the world.
“That may be true, but my father has... exceedingly high standards.” The way Weiss spoke ‘exceedingly’ made it clear that she was using the word as a euphemism for something far less polite. “Your father is a member of the most powerful team in the world. My father would see Ruby as a step down and demand to know why I haven’t managed to seduce you.”
Claire raised one eyebrow. “He wants you to seduce me?”
Weiss’s cheeks flushed in a combination of anger and embarrassment. “I will not repeat his exact words. I value your friendship far too much to repeat such... vulgarity, but he was very clear that I was to do whatever it took to secure an alliance between your family and mine.”
Claire took a calming sip of her hot chocolate, but the way the table had begun to rattle made her feelings known. “Weiss... did your father ask you to... to prostitute yourself?”
Weiss stared into the dregs of her coffee. “Your father is one of the most powerful huntsmen in the world. Your mother is likewise one of the most powerful huntresses in the world. And then there is the matter of your extended family. One of your aunts is not only incredibly powerful but also married to the founder and owner of the most powerful company in the world. Another one of your aunts is either the most powerful person on the planet or married to the most powerful person on the planet. And that’s just on your mother’s side."
“Even so...” Claire reined her Aura in before it could frighten everyone else in the cafe.
“It would be good business,” Weiss said, too calmly for Claire’s liking. “Just think of the benefits. If you and I were to marry, my family’s power would reach new heights. Given your family’s famously protective nature, who would dare to oppose us? Who even could?”
“That’s not why people should marry,” Claire said.
“In an ideal world,” Weiss replied. “I would marry for love, but we don’t live in an ideal world.”
Claire scowled and then reached across the table to cup Weiss’s chin. She tilted the other girl’s head back until they could stare into each other’s eyes. “Weiss, don’t turn yourself into a martyr. It really doesn’t suit you.” Her voice softened. “I don’t like to speak ill of someone’s family, Weiss, but your father is full of shit.”
“...” Weiss stared at Claire for a long moment and then burst out laughing. It took her almost a minute to get her mirth under control.
“Feeling better?” Claire asked.
“Yes. Yes, I think I do.” Weiss sighed. “It’s not often someone is willing to speak so...bluntly about my father.”
“You should hear what my dad says about him sometimes. Yeah. My dad never helped your family because of your father. It was because of your grandfather, your mother, and you and your siblings.”
“I did get that impression,” Weiss murmured. “Professor Villiers has always been... polite to my father, but he was always much warmer with the rest of us.”
“Anyway,” Claire said. “If your father is pressuring you, I’m happy to help, but you’re going to have to deal with him at some point.”
“A few more years,” Weiss said quietly. “I’ll be strong enough by then to do something, but not yet. And by then...”
“By then Ruby might be famous enough in her own right,” Claire said. “The way your team is going, that’s a bet I’d be happy to take.” She paused. “But there is another option.”
“Oh?” Weiss raised one eyebrow.
“Tell my Aunt Lightning what your father told you to do.”
Weiss’s eyes widened comically. “She’d kill him!”
“And she’d get away with it too,” Claire said with a grin.
Weiss giggled. “I... I will keep that in mind.” She shook her head. “I know it’s absurd given how poorly he has treated me, but he is still my father. There is a part of me that still loves him. I suppose that makes me foolish.”
“It makes you human,” Claire replied. “And a far better person than he is.” She reached across the table and patted Weiss’s hand. “But if things ever get too bad, if you ever need somewhere to run to... my family’s door is always open, you know that, right?”
“Yes, of course. Thank you.”
Claire snickered. “You can hang out in our guest room. I know my parents would be happy to have you around, and, hey, I dare him to try something while you’re under our roof.”

Author’s Notes
Weiss’s father is obsessed with securing more power. Having secured vast amounts of economic power via the SDC, he wants access to the highest echelons of hunter society because, ultimately, that’s where the real power is. Elite hunters are the backbone of society. Without them, survival would be impossible, so they wield enormous influence across all areas of society. Take Lightning. What government in the world wouldn’t give her whatever she wanted to move her family into their territory? Her mere presence is basically a guarantee of safety and prosperity because she can murder just about anything that tries to attack.
However, Jacques miscalculated badly. He and Winter are estranged with Winter viewing Ironwood as more of a father and mentor than she ever viewed Jacques. She certainly won’t listen to him or help him access hunter society. Weiss is basically his best shot since Whitley doesn’t show the same level of promise. That’s why he is so insistent on her pursuing someone like Claire because that would give him the access that he craves. He views any potential marriage for Weiss strictly in terms of what it can get him and the SDC. Yeah. He’s not a nice guy. Jacques even tried to throw Weiss at Trajan once, but Yeul stepped in and warned him in her best Grand Seeress fashion that it would not end well for him if he kept pushing Weiss at people. He backed off from Trajan, but he chose to ignore the generality of Yeul’s warning.

The War Ends at Dusk
This is my first fan fiction, so I worked super hard on it! This is the prologue, and the first chapter is finished so I will post that shortly. The premise is four years after the accounts of RWBY and Blake and Yang are awaiting the birth of their first child. Ruby, Weiss, Nora, and Ren are in the waiting room awaiting the birth of the bumbleby baby. The fic is centered around the bee family, and add a bit of found family trope and new age angst.
WC: 2,214
“Does anyone know how much longer this is going to take? I mean they’ve been in there almost 10 months!” Nora barked, getting up to stretch. Ren sighed and grabbed his partner’s hand.
“Patience, please Nora. This has got to be hard on Blake and Yang too.” Ren said ever ready to calm down his excitable partner.
Ruby chuckled, “Guess they’ll be as stubborn as Yang. Taking bets that they’ll be born tomorrow?” she said checking the clock on the wall which read 5:38 pm, the group had been there since Yang’s frantic group text that early morning that Blake was going into labor.
“I’ll put ten liens on that bet, Ruby” Nora said tossing Ruby a rolled-up bill.
Weiss and Ren collectively sighed at their partner’s immaturity and gave each other a knowing look.
“Ruby, your sister’s wife, your best friend, is giving birth to her first child have some sympathy.” Weiss retorted rubbing the bridge of her nose. The four of them sat in silence for a minute. It seemed impossible that they were here together to celebrate life. Something none of them saw in their future a mere four years ago when they were fighting for their lives and battling a unkillable creature. Ruby sat back in the hospital seat closing her remaining eye. She was about to be an aunt, she still couldn’t believe that they were all here like this, yesterday it seemed that Blake and Yang announced they were officially dating, yesterday that they were trapped in Purgatory without seeing any way out. Ruby smiled, she couldn’t quite describe how elated she was to celebrate this moment with her closest friends and family.
“You know,” Ruby started, “I don’t know if you all feel this way, but this feels unreal.”
Weiss looked to her best friend and smiled sincerely, “It does feel unreal. Like all the tribulations we went through as teenagers seems so close, yet so far away. I’m happy in a way that we were a part of the new future that we are giving to Blake and Yang’s child, to all future generations, that they will never have to worry about the things we did.”
“Never thought a future would exist for us like this,” Nora chimed in, taking Ren’s hand, “After everything, I am so thankful that I get to experience this moment. Can’t imagine what they must be feeling too and I’m glad Jaune is assisting in boosting her aura for childbirth.” She smiled and looked towards the birth wing.
Ren rubbed her hand with his, smiling contently, “When we became huntsman it seemed like a forever thing, like we would never be able to experience moments in life as precious as this. I felt like this at Yang and Blake’s wedding too. Their happiness and love for each other filled the room with pink petals, their emotions were so raw and real, I can even feel it today.”
The three smiled at him, “You always know what to say, Ren.” Weiss said, “I just cannot wait to spoil the little thing.”
The group laughed, “They just have to hurry up and get out into the world!” Nora yelled earning a strict look from one of the nurses. She uttered a soft apology while Ruby chuckled and in turn Weiss gave her a look.
Ruby sighed, “It is taking a long time, I hope she’s okay. Has anyone heard anything from Yang or Jaune?”
The four of them checked their scrolls, “Haven’t heard anything sense ‘Blake is 7 centimeters,’ and that was two hours ago.” Weiss replied, huffing quietly in annoyance.
“Hmm, well we could tell some stories to pass the time?” Ruby asked rubbing her chin.
Nora looked up at her, “Practicing your story telling skills on us before you have to tell famous, huntress who saved all of Remnant Auntie Ruby Rose stories?” Nora asked.
Ruby laughed, “Partially, I guess. So, yes, or no?”
Ren nodded, “I’d like to hear some, maybe some that we were not together for? Like what you’ve been doing now with Jaune and Weiss?”
Weiss looked at Ruby, not like her work now was anything confidential, just not something Ruby liked to talk about specifically. It hit close to her.
Ruby took a long sigh, she closed her good eye and raised her hand to touch her scarred over right eye, “I’d hate to put a damper on our good moods,” Ruby let out a long breath and Weiss put her hand on Ruby’s shoulder.
“You don’t have to talk about it if you do not want to Ruby, it’s not an easy topic to discuss,” Weiss reassured Ruby.
Ruby looked to Weiss, who has been next to her throughout her whole journey, never questioning Ruby’s judgement, the most loyal person Ruby has ever met. However, Weiss was right, this was not an easy topic to talk about. Especially when this only mattered to her, but she has not discussed this with anyone except her teammates and Oscar. She was reminded of her mother for a moment, and Maria who did not have a lot of information to give her either on the silver eyed warriors. After seeing Salem’s Hound, she promised herself that she would do whatever it takes to end any part of Salem’s tyranny, and as of late Ruby found several lackey groups that still practiced horrid experiments on silver eyed people.
“I could talk about it, but I am not sure where to begin, it is not a particularly easy thing to talk about. You remember four years ago in Atlas, the Hound that was after Oscar and Penny?”
Ruby could feel the atmosphere shift. Weiss raised her hand from Ruby’s shoulder to fix her hair bun. Nora’s shoulders slumped and her eyes darted to the ground. Ren let out a long audible sigh as he straightened in his seat.
Ren spoke first, “It, it is not something I like to think about,” remembering his own impudence, “but I will never forget it.”
“I was thankful that I did not have to see it in person,” Nora added rubbing her lightning bolt scar on her neck.
Ren folded his hands on his lap, “It’s never something I like to discuss either, if the students ever bring it up, I mean.”
Weiss nodded, “Ruby and I have been well…” Weiss looked to Ruby.
“We have been finding Salem’s old research facilities and finding silver eyed people being experimented on.” Ren and Nora collectively gasped. “Yeah, it is not something, well it is not an easy thing to talk about. The hardest part was finding out that Salem, even now that she is gone, still has her clutches across Remnant.”
Weiss rubbed Ruby’s back, “As a huntsman rehabilitations counselor, I focus on finding homes for the silver eyed people who have either been born into the lab, or who have lost family members…” Weiss trailed off looking at her scroll to check any messages.
Ruby picked where Weiss left off, “It is not an ideal situation, but through Weiss’ company we are finding homes that are taking children and teenagers and Oscar is letting adults live in some empty apartments in Vale.
Ren shook his head, “I hate that there are still veins of Salem’s reign throughout the kingdoms, but I am glad that there is you two that are liberating these people.”
Nora placed her hands on her thighs, an exasperated expression on her face, “I have a student with silver eyes, they’re so promising. I can’t imagine anything ever happening to them.”
Ren nodded in agreement, “Yes, they are a wonder, though I am not sure they know how to use their silver eye powers yet.”
Ruby nodded, “It might be best right now, for your student to not know, it will paint an even bigger target on their back.”
Weiss looked to Ren and Nora, of course they would be worried about their students, even though there was peace many dangers still lurked around the corners, still small threats of Salem’s powers.
“Nowadays, huntsmen and huntresses are returning home, all of the small lurking problems are ones for the younger generation now.” Weiss said giving a reassuring look to Ren and Nora.
“Remnant is safe, yes though there are Grimm still lurking about, thieves trying to steal maiden powers or relics, even bandit troops are still around. While these new huntsmen nowadays don’t have to worry about the fate of the world, they are just cleaning up our scraps.”
Nora stood and looked Ruby in the eye defiantly, “Ruby, that is why Ren and I decided to become professors at Beacon. People will always be willing to help those in need and we will be there to offer support, just like our professors and mentors did for us.”
Ruby sniffed and stood to give Nora a hug, “I will always count on you guys to do that for us, and if you ever need a guest talk about the silver eyed warriors or to teach your student how to use their eyes, I am here for you. All three of you.”
“You guys, I love the sentiment, but you should really save your tears for Blake and Yang’s child.” Weiss sighed.
The group laughed. “I am glad our parents were allowed to go into the room with them, but I am a bit jealous,” Ruby said and continued, “Dad is so excited to be a grandpa and I know Kali and Ghira have been waiting for this moment too. I don’t think I have been this excited for something in a long time.”
“I couldn’t wait to meet the little cub since the baby shower, I think I bought too many gifts.” Weiss sighed leaning on her knees.
“I am surprised you still have money after that spree,” Nora said sitting back down next to Ren.
Ren laughed, “I splurged a bit too much as well, almost my whole paycheck.”
“Mrs. Xiao Long-Belladonna! Do not run in the halls!”
The group stood up when Yang burst into the waiting room.
“Yang! Is everything alright?!” Ruby and the rest stood quickly.
Yang ripped the hair cap from her head and pulled her surgical mask down, beaming from ear to ear.
“Guys! You’re allowed to come into our room, there is someone I’d like you to meet!”
The gang followed Yang quickly down the hallway to the room. Jaune was waiting outside for them.
“Everything alright still?” Yang asked him, leaning an arm on his shoulder.
Jaune looked to everyone, his eyes heavy, “Yeah, they are resting comfortably. Though, that kid is a fighter, I used up all of my aura.”
Nora stood by her teammate to rub his back.
“We really appreciate it, Jaune. Now guys, please come in.”
The group of seven walked in slowly passing by Taiyang who was standing in the corner of the room, weeping softly. Ruby placed a hand on her father’s back.
“Alright, Dad?” Ruby whispered. Taiyang nodded and ruffled Ruby’s hair. Yang passed by to sit beside her wife. Blake reached up and kissed Yang sleepily. Blake held a bundled blanket closer to her chest and smiled happily to the rest of the gang.
“Well don’t just stand around like that you guys! No need to be nervous!” Kali said grabbing Ruby by the arm leading her to stand by Yang.
Blake and Yang laughed as the group nervously huddled around Blake’s bed. Yang gently touched the bundle which in turn made a soft gurgling sound.
“Hehe, our little guy just ate, he and Mommy are super sleepy now, huh?”
Weiss raised her eyebrows and stared at Yang, “A boy?”
Nora and Ren bumped fists, “We knew it!” Nora cried.
The baby moaned a bit at the sudden loud noise and Blake and Yang were quick to reassure their newborn son. Ruby and Weiss shot Nora a look and Ren rolled his eyes.
Blake laughed after the baby calmed down.
“Sorry, Blake. I know you’ve had a hard day.”
Blake laughed again and looked at Yang, “Nora, this was one of the happiest days of my life. He was a sucker to push out, but I would do it all again to share this moment with the person I love the most and my most prized possession, our son.”
Ruby smiled and moved closer to Yang, “So, are you going to introduce us then?”
Weiss grabbed Ruby’s arm, Ruby leaned in closer to Yang, and Ren, Nora, and Jaune linked together.
Blake unwrapped the small bundle a bit where two little, folded blonde cat ears stood up.
Weiss teared up, “He’s beautiful, Yang, Blake”
Yang smiled and kissed the small head, “Well, I mean he came from the most beautiful woman on Remnant, of course he’s beautiful.”
Blake and nearly everyone in the room rolled their eyes.
“Yang, please. I love you, but please.” Blake pleaded, “Even the baby hated your joke.”
Yang chuckled, “No, he didn’t. Look at the perfect little kitten.” She said taking the small baby’s hand.
“So,” Ruby pleaded her eyes beginning to water, “What is his name?”
Blake and Yang looked at each other then to their son.
“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Dusk Yin Xiao Long Belladonna”

Aspirations and Aspersions
Y’know, writing that ramble about the Volume 8 OP made me realize that James Ironwood gave/offered RWBY everything they wanted out of life as huntresses as per Ruby talking to Ozpin about becoming a huntress in the interrogation/entrance room and the other three in Mountain Glenn’s camp.
Ruby: “My parents always taught us to help others, so I thought, Hey, I might as well make a career out of it! I mean the police are alright, but Huntsmen and Huntresses are just so much more romantic and exciting and cool and really, gosh, you know!” - Volume 1: Ruby Rose
Ironwood: “Ruby, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly what being a Huntress is all about. You recognized a threat. You took action. And you did the very best you could.” - Volume 2: Field Trip
Weiss states that she wants to fix public perception of the Schnee Dust Company by being a heroic huntress, and that her father has been bad, and we know he’s been abusive towards her now and that she specifically went to an academy in another kingdom to get away.
Ironwood publicly defends her at the gala and assures her that if she cannot stand living with her father, she can join his academy and be safe there and a huntress to boot.
Blake’s entire character is about the (botched) racism arc against faunus, and more broadly, about prejudice (since she also fights against faunus she finds “prejudiced” against humans). She states that she became a huntress to fight the good fight as part of regular society, instead of the unlawful acts she committed before and her mentor (yes, she calls Adam a mentor and partner in this episode, never boyfriend or even “guy I liked”) still does.
Ironwood, in super-racist Atlas, as the headmaster of the academy has the entire kingdom represented by a flamboyantly perky faunus who is not ashamed to show what she is, and a man from impoverished circumstances, at the most important international event in the entire world, that symbolizes friendship and harmony (it is played out in the Amity Arena for goodness’ sake!). As the general he also has a faunus on his most famous top team in the military. In short, he’s using his institutional power for good as much as he can while staying within the boundaries of societal rules so that he wont lose those powers and abilities to help.
(Also, there’s that whole “running away” thing... I wonder how Blake would have liked it if she was trapped with Adam immediately following the Fall of Beacon instead of on her way to her tropical paradise palace family home...?)
Yang just want an adventurous life where she is free to do as she wishes. After she lost her arm and fell into depression, that was threatened. And society is not built for one-handed people, so even if she pulled out of her depression without a prosthetic, she would have to face the frustration of moving about in a world made for two-handed people and her diminished fighting ability, since she would need to learn an entirely new fighting style to compensate.
Ironwood, when global communications are down and people are panicking because a kingdom has fallen on the last international broadcast, manages to get a state-of-the-art, custom-made for Yang’s semblance (or it would break), prosthetic arm to the other side of the world for her, no strings attached and for free, which means that she has a choice whether or not to go through the physical frustrations of losing an arm (have to tie a ribbon? A zipper that wont close unless you hold the edges together with another hand? There are many, many little frustrations to remind Yang of her loss in everyday life), and to keep her usual fighting style.
And yet, once they all are reunited with Ironwood, they are not happy to see him as he is to see them, they are not his allies but present themselves as if they are, and so he gives them even more gifts; upgraded tools of their trade, training by masters of their trade, clothing, gear, a place to stay and food and a job (these are things, btw, we usually only expect parents to give children and even then, if the children are adults like RWBY, many would say that it shouldn’t be an expectation, but just a nice thing to do. RWBY aren’t even citizens of his beleaguered kingdom and he goes this far for them).
And RWBY’s conclusion is that he cannot be trusted.
Here’s the thing, I could see JNR argue it because they could blame Ironwood in part for Pyrrha’s death. Especially if Weiss describes the machinery around the Winter Maiden that Winter took her to see (sharing top secret info with RWBY just because they love and support them, and Winter is loyal to Ironwood and he clearly likes her, so Winter’s trust is also reflected in Ironwood’s trust), and Jaune recognizes it as the same type of thing around Amber and Pyrrha.
But RWBYOQ? If so, they should have mistrusted everyone else as well. No suddenly thinking Robyn’s cool (unless Robyn does something more than Ironwood to personally win over Yang and Blake), and no happy smiles when they train/work with other people because they would feel tense and mistrustful.
No Clover and Qrow bonding. No Marrow babysitting the kids. No happiness at Penny being rebuilt (which should have won Ruby over alone, since it was Ironwood who enabled it) without hesitation. Weiss should have started picking fights with Winter with snide comments as she did with Whitley, as that is common when trust issues suddenly manifest in a close relationship and there’s no fear of retaliation.
But we don’t get that. What we get is that Ironwood is specifically considered untrustworthy by RWBY without any of them dissenting or even raising the argument that “hey, he actually helped us out a lot in the past, and he seems happy to see us, maybe we shouldn’t outright lie to him? I’m not saying tell him everything, just the bits he needs to know right now before he wastes valuable resources and time on a fool’s errand.”.
That’s why it is so jarring, and why the villainization of Ironwood is so suspect to many of the audience; by the rules of the world before he shot Oscar, RWBY weren’t in the right to do what they did, but now when he shot Oscar and the councilman, it is supposed to show us how right they were.
Except that unless silver eyes gives Ruby the ability to look into the future, it doesn’t work that way.
And don’t get me started on how Ruby is treating Penny in Volume 8...

RWBY Volume 7 Chapter 2
Sorry it's late (work is a pain), but here are my thoughts and opinions on Chapter 2 of RWBY Volume 7, "A New Approach"
SPOILERS BELOW:
While my initial reaction to the new theme song was just as lukewarm as the last three were, I can already feel it growing on me. Excellent.
I guess it wouldn't be Nora if she wasn't going feral on her handcuffs. I wonder if all of the Rooster Teeth animations are in the same universe and she's not distantly related to Camp Camp's Nikki.
I didn't even realize that there was someone else in the carriage with them last episode. He feels like a random (if somewhat comedic) one-off, but the credits name him as "Forest", so perhaps we'll see him in the future.
Oh come on, Robyn Hill and her Happy Huntresses? Are Miles and Kerry even trying to be subtle with the character allusions anymore?
Woah, now THAT is a beautiful reveal shot of Atlas. Really shows the scale of the place.
Ooh, Atlas Academy looks swanky.
Geez, Winter, I'm sure asking nicely or even phrasing it as an order would have done just fine. Though I suppose that is an appropriate reintroduction to your character.
Wow. Ironwood's office is huge! It's like he took one look at Ozpin's and said "There is no way I'm letting him have this"
Of all of the reactions I expected Ironwood to have to the heroes stealing an airship, mild amusement was not one of them.
Adorable hugs is starting to become one of Weiss's signature moves and I am all for it.
Not gonna lie, my initial reaction to Ironwood telling them about the Relics and Salem wasn't too in favor of it, but the more I thought about it, was it really too different from Qrow telling Team RNJR about it in Volume 4?
Why do I get the feeling that the Staff of Creation is not safe inside the vault? I mean, I believe that Penny thinks it is, but it totally isn't, right?
Hmm, so the Winter Maiden is some old woman? I guess that squashes any theories about it either being Winter or Willow, since I'm sure they would have made a point to mention that by now.
"I needed to ensure that Salem couldn't infiltrate Atlas" Yeeeeeaaaaaah, about that.
Hmm, turning Amity into Remnant's first global communication satellite? I like it. Not sure how well the whole "out of reach from the Grimm" part will work now that Salem's got her flying monkey's. Though I suppose they aren't the first airborne Grimm, so there's nothing to say they can reach higher than the others.
Hoo boy, there's a lot to unpack here. On one hand, I can see where Ironwood's thinking is going with this plan to tell everyone about Salem. With Grimm being the number one problem of the world, banding all of Remnant together against her isn't exactly the most outlandish of fantasies. That being said, I imagine that there are scores of people like Tyrian, Watts, Hazel, and Cinder that wouldn't have any problems with joining her, and with Salem exposed, she would have ample opportunity to spread her own message of a brand new world and recruit such people to her cause. Eventually, it would turn into an all out war between Salem's now sizable faction against the rest of Remnant. If anything Ironwood's plan would really only help Salem's plans in the long run. I'm also suspicious about Ironwood's plan to come in and "help out"other kingdoms once he tells them about Salem. It sounds to me like a scheme to get back into everyone's good graces after every single stunt he's pulled since the Fall.
To quote Blake from the previous episode, Ironwood's reaction to Oscar's identity is strangely wholesome.
Hmm, Ruby's lying to Ironwood not unlike Oz kept things from them. Can't say I blame her. Ironwood hasn't exactly proven himself to be trustworthy in the past, and while I like a lot of the things he's selling, I'm getting the feeling that he's keeping plenty from them. Still, after their reactions to Ozpin's secrets in the previous volume, I wonder if this is going to lead to some small arc where Ruby and the gang grow to realize the position he was in, and later apologize to him when they next speak to him. That would certainly be nice.
I wonder what kind of weapon upgrades we might be seeing. We've seen Gambol Shroud getting repaired, Yang's arm getting buffed, and the OP showed off Jaune's shield getting a hard light enhancement (Jaune is slowly becoming Felix), but I wonder if anyone else will be getting upgrades as well.
Ok, now we get to meet the the Ace Ops (which I can not believe I missed as a pun on Aesop's) properly. Thankfully, the credits gave us their full names, so here we get: -Elm Ederne (who I believe to be the Plane Tree. My quick search didn't bring up too many fables about trees, and she doesn't seem arrogant enough to be the Oak from The Oak and the Reed). She seems really friendly, if a bit overly energetic. I can't wait to see more of her. -Marrow Amin, who is either a dog or wolf faunus (hopefully dog, Aesop tended to cast wolves as villains, which would not bode well here). To put it simply, he's a tsundere. Moreso than Weiss ever was. Dear lord. -Clover Ebi (obviously based on A Fisherman's Good Luck, considering his weapon and numerous good luck charms). Seems rather generic for now, but we'll see how he develops. -Harriet 'Hare' Bree. Oh, come on guys. I'm trying to feel really clever figuring this stuff out, which is very hard when you just give it to us like that. From her competitive tendencies to her Flash-like effects in the OP, clearly this the Hare from easily one of Aesop's most famous fables, The Tortoise and the Hare. Side note, I like that they gave forwent the obvious route in making her a rabbit Faunus (unless there's a cottontail we're not seeing) and instead simply gave her rabbit-ear-like bangs. It's a nice creative touch. -Vine Zeki (not a clue). He looks like Zenyetta had a weird robo-love-child with ABLE from gen:LOCK.
Oh my, I can hear the Ironqrow shippers screaming for joy.
It just occurred to me that Penny probably doesn't get tired. Gawd it's great to have her back.
Damn, Watts looks sharp as hell in that coat.
Or should I say, Dr. Arthur 'No Fucks Given' Watts.
Listening to Tyrian murder someone as he casually complains about moving around is highly disturbing.
Ooh. That's a lot of blood. Hope it wasn't originally inside of somebody we know.

New RWBY Theories and Old Hidden Plotlines
Tumblr media
So far, with the new lore and old lore- this is what the general world of remnant looks like in terms of symbols and the maidens and relics and plot.
Right off the bat, I don’t think that Ozma and Salem’s children are the maidens. Simple because they don’t actually match up to the maidens once laid out in these ^^^ terms.
Color wise, they don’t match, age wise, they don’t. Clearly, the oldest daughter is Blue- to the maidens it is Fall (orange). So I think the maidens are in fact the Wizard’s way of grieving and moving on from his daughters loss, and his way of getting back on track with the god of lights task.
With these four women, he can bring the world closer to it’s judgement and hopefully passing it with connected seasons and powers to help bring people together.
I believe, that the girls weren’t just killed in the fight between Os and Salem. I think that there was a lot of rampant magic being thrown about by two careless parents- and that the girls were changed because of the battle. They had magic too, perhaps it was the only way to save themselves or one of the girls tried to protect her sisters (Blue most likely) and therefore, the girls became powerful but uncontrollable beings. Jinn is a VERY powerful being, but she is ultimate trapped due to her form and such.
Which, therefore- the girls became one with the relics.
(for the sake of ease, I’m giving them nicknames based on possible story connections of elements of the relics)
Blue became Jinn, who was combined with the Lamp of Knowledge Relic. And then, to protect her, was safely stowed away in the vault of Haven. But clearly, the reincarnations traveled a lot, and the younger Ozpin must have located the relic, but we can assume that each 100 years the current reincarnation would seek out the lamp. It’s just coincidence it ended up in Haven at the end of the line? Hardly.
I think Ozpin is and has always been a bit sad, and keeps asking the same questions expecting new answers. It’s likely, that he finally had to stop- and then trusted the lamp to lionheart’s academy to be its guard (without outright telling lionheart surely, but this was also something had to learn which I’ll explain in more detail soon)
Gold became Caliburn, a spirit combined with the Sword of Destruction Relic, which we believe is the weapon that the Vacuo King used in the last great war to cut down the thousands of soldiers etc. She was then, put away or is somewhere in the Shade academy. Possibly being used? Or, more likely for story effects, placed in stone like some kind of Caliburn. This could make for a fun narrative of one of our girls (RWBY) trying to pull the sword from the stone (LOOK ITS RWBY YOU KNOW THEY WOULD MAKE ANOTHER MYTHICAL STORY REFERENCE)
Third daughter is Pink, which ironically DOES fit with Atlas’ relic symbol. The Paintbrush or possibly a staff or stave. Look at her, she looks like Rapunzel, who is semi-famous for painting. There are so many instances in which Rapunzel is associated with painting I.E. Creation. She became the relic of creation, and is somewhere in “Atlas”.
Theory 1--- I bet that she is actually with Weiss’ grandfather, who has been hinted at being the main engineer of Atlas’ military concepts and of Atlas as a whole as the genuine patriarch of the Schnee family name.
((Rapunzel, the girl trapped in her tower by not her mother, but someone who stole from her mother. (It does fit rather well).))
But let us not forget, the biggest clue that Atlas is of creation...
Tumblr media
Theory 2 -- Or, that once upon a time, Atlas wasn’t even existing. It was in fact, a barren wasteland And not until Alsius flourished did it exist. When Mantle lost the capitol status, and when Atlas became Atlas as a whole, the relic could have very well been left behind in the old kingdom of mantle, or moved through the war. We won’t know until we get there of course.
Which leaves Laurel.
The last daughter, the relic of vale. A Crown of Choice.
This one is basically confirmed location wise simply because of what we’ve seen so far. RWBY is a team of self made choices, Pyrrha as the fall maiden to-be MADE HER CHOICE to face off against Cinder. Vale is the home of Ozpin who is now synonymous with “make a choice, make a choice, MAKE A CHOICE” (between the gods, the witch, and everything from rwby s1-3 this is a solid theory)
Laurel was the youngest, most likely the least bit skilled in magic. (This is paired with the Fall Maiden being the oldest). It’s most likely that when she was turned into a being, she was the least put together. Possibly the most fragile, and most necessary to baby over. Oz took personal watch over her relic.
But, there is a chance, that while Oz knows he is connected to the relics, he doesn’t recognize them if they are his lost daughters. Clearly, with each reincarnation, things got fuzzier and more cloudy about past and reality. His body hosts didn’t even recognize themselves in the first few reincarnations.
Who’s to say it even is Ozpin in RWBY V4-6. What if he only thought he was? Clearly, with the newest reincarnations some of the lines have blurred. What if Ozma has been the one in control from the beginning and even Ozpin didn’t know anymore..
Regardless, The relic in beacon is either the most powerful or least controllable, highly volatile perhaps.
Where these relics are is clear, the academies.
But, the hints of these objects locations is the most interesting bit.
We we’re told of Jinn before she even arrived, through the Haven statue.
Tumblr media
So the question becomes (and what we should be on the look out for) what are the other clues??
I think, we have one.
Ozpin said that the Beacon Relic was, “A challenge to find”. And what’s more hard to find than whats in plain sight?
Tumblr media
I do want you to take note that Blake is narratively connected with THIS statue. Like how Yang is connected with the Haven statue (chasing her mother etc)
But she isn’t the only one.
Tumblr media
Both of these characters are inherently, DEEPLY, connected with the idea of Choice. Not just choice, but Vale’s symbol is that of choice between the fist and the open hand of leadership and such. It would make A LOT of sense for either Blake or Jaune to deal with this artifact. But, I think it’s Blake, and you’ll see why...
The statue itself is in the court yard, its the place that Raven choices to speak with Yang in. Which we STILL don’t know what happened in the rest of that dream btw.
Atlas, might be right in our faces. Or, we already know part of the story.
As we can sorta tell, RWBY as a whole will play their parts toward finding and reclaiming the relics. Yang found the Lamp, Blake will find the Crown. Which leaves Weiss and Ruby.
We know the next relic is the paintbrush, and that its in Atlas. As previously stated, I think that maybe old man Schnee will know where it is, or know of it. And that Ironwood will be necessary to accessing it. In regards to the show, and to Weiss- this would pull together some very nice loose ends and create some good character development.
Weiss will not only get to know her grandfather, she will learn her true powers. like how Yang learned her mother was the spring maiden and finally let some of her grief go. I think, that in parallel, Weiss will reclaim the Staff/Paintbrush as well as deal with her family as a whole.
It’s really important though, to know that Atlas was once Mantle. And therefor, we are missing key parts of its founding. The relic may not even be in Atlas, and since our heroes are currently a little lost in the land that was once Mantle, they may just happen to stumble upon its true location.
Or, Maria will be helpful in this case. I think we’ll be finding out soon.
Vacuo is the Sword, and as I stated before, the sword could become a very Caliburn situation simply because its not in use. We know its not because Vacuo isn’t currently waging war with the literal sword of Damocles  in the story right now. Which means most likely, it is either safely hidden or the current leaders of Vacuo have it carefully guarded. We won’t know until the show finally takes us to Vacuo. But I believe this won’t come for a while.
The sword is meant to be the most dangerous weapon. But, it’s also a symbol. Of the king, the knight, of war. And when connected with the Summer Maiden, of Change. Deep and intrinsic change.
When the Summer Maiden came to the Wizard, she changed him. she set him on the path. When the king took up the sword, he changed the face of the great war. It changed things.
Which is why Ruby will claim the sword.
Think of it, Ruby is the main force of change in this show. the Chosen one, our Arthur. It makes total sense that even though the others find the relics, SHE is the one who will use them. She’s the silver eyed warrior, our plot pusher. And the one Ozpin already saw something in.
She is the one the god of light set in motion.
When Ozma was given his task, it was said he wouldn’t have to do it alone.
I believe, that Silver Eyed Warriors are VERY specific to their Oz’s. The two children for the reincarnation before Ozpin were important to that Oz because they taught him something, family and what to fight for. And other before them had their own uses and values.
I think, that Summer Rose was Ozpin’s silver eyed warrior, and that the story of what happened to her will ultimately make a lot of sense in how the current story has developed. Whatever happened to her, whatever sort of mission Oz had for her, it set in motion major events which have led us here...
Like inspiring her daughter to become a huntress, or giving reason for her children to be who they are today. But ultimately, I think that the truth will be far sadder. And that when it comes out, Qrow will be the one to deal with the major fallout. We’ve had many hints and teases that Summer Rose meant a great deal to Qrow, and we know now the Ozpin didn’t tell Qrow the major things, the real truths.
If Summer died at the fault of Ozpin, the blame and regret will have a devastating effect on Qrow.
But Ruby? Ruby isn’t Ozpin’s Silver Eyed Girl.
She’s Oscars.
There is no inherent say to who becomes the next Warrior/Wizard. Simply that, with each reincarnation something must be learned.
Ozma, he learned of the fate of the world. He accepted to task. The first reincarnation learned the hard way that Salem must be defeated. From there, each reincarnation has learned something else that will ultimately come together in time.
The Wizard learned that he could not just sit by and let the world turn. That he had to move forward. He was so OLD. He held onto the reincarnation for centuries. Refusing to die, to put the power out into a new mind. He learned how to change. The maidens taught him that, and when he gave them the powers, it made a new possibility show up- a way to defeat Salem.
Ozpin couldn’t defeat her, because that was not his task.
He was meant to bring the world together. And he was meant to find the forces that CAN defeat his witch.
Which is exactly what Ozpin did.
Tumblr media
It’s clear that the final moments of the world are coming. That RWBY began at the end of the world. With all the songs and stories and the show explaining how a peaceful world suddenly became a war zone.
The time for the judgement is coming, Salem knows and is finally acting. And somewhere, deep in the immortal part of Oz that is still Ozma, that is the man brought back by the God of Light, he knew it was coming too.
So now, Oscar is here. the youngest reincarnation, the youngest because this battle may take a while. And, something new to learn.
I’m sure he isn’t the first, clearly not- but Oscar defied Ozma. He not only stopped Ozpin, but outright acted out. He learned how to fight as himself and not as the reincarnation.
And we know that, ultimately, that the Ozma in the reincarnations takes control. Each reincarnation so far has not only taken over the life of a stranger, but changed it. Like possession, and Oz played the roles of his bodies but he was still the one in control.
Even with the man and his family, Oz was the one in control. He just simply playing the part of the father and crafter and huntsman, but still listening to the man who’s family he know protected.
It’s important that this family gets some story. Because they became this Oz’s responsibility. His plans and his greater purpose had to be put the this side in order to do the right thing. (thats what he learned in this form)
But Oscar? Oscar is not only pushing back against the reincarnation possession, but WINNING.
“and it was in that moment, that the wizard knew what should be done”
Oscar is the exact opposite of the Wizard. He is young, he is fighting back, and he is taking control. But, at the same time- he still has help.
From his four maidens, from his silver eyed warrior.
I think, that the show is about to REALLY REALLY REALLY kick off. and not a damn one of us are ready.
Now, I wanna talk about the Faunus.
The god brothers ARE faunus. I don’t see anyone else freaking out about this. A stag and a ram faunus. The God of Light is playing right into old school witch stories about the Horned One and the Old God. While the God of Darkness plays into the more modern idea of the “devil” with the ramhorns. Both were once the same thing, but time and people have made them unique concepts.
Either Salem told every new human about the gods appearance, and also told them about the old history of the world and such- or some people survived who knew what the gods were like.
This is an odd plot point. It gets confusing.
If the god of darkness really did destroy all humans, and the moon- then how do people know anything about the gods at all. Surely, the world would have decayed in the time it took for Humans to grow back out of evolution. And that alone is a weird narrative plot because it implies that Humans just, sprang back up... and ignores that they needed to grow.
So I think, that in fact, we should operate on the idea that Salem DID teach people about the world before. At least she did before she became corrupted..
The World of Remnant.
Before Salem was revealed, the world of remnants were her stories.
Of course, since parts of the show are new concepts- its hard to count each and every one of  world or remnants and other such stories as part of the whole story..but I find that the VERY first story is VERY telling.
In the VERY FIRST episode of RWBY, Salem is introducing the story. It’s very important to realize that what she says, with the new information explains SO MUCH. But, its interesting to note that for the majority of it she sounds calm and gentle, kind and sad even. and then angry, and righteous and cynical. As though she goes from someone kind, to someone spiteful. (A young maiden in a tower to a blood thirsty angry and deeply sad immortal)
But then Ozpin speaks. And what he says is kinder and hopefully and while not reprimanding..it does try to smooth over what Salem says.
Its as though, they were telling a story together. And she fell back into a twisted sense of reality..and Ozma corrected her..as though they were telling a bed time story and he was keeping that viciousness in her at bay. (they’re albeit short time together in the first reincarnations life)
The world of remnants are their daughters bedtime stories. And when they were gone, and when all Salem had left was the newborn humans, she kept telling stories.
Taking the WOR into account therefore --
The Moon shattering wasn’t just a coincidence.
In the first story, Salem explains that man is born of Dust. In the telling of WOR Vol 2.- Salem explains that animals are also made of dust.
The God of Darkness intentionally destroyed the moon, used the fragments to rebirth humans, and what was left became our dust shards.
A fascinating fact.
But, in the new world, Faunus existed for the first time.
I think, that with the moon shards (what else do I call them lol??) some of the shards took on the appearance of the gods. As thought the god of darkness had purposefully used his own image to rebirth the humans.
“ According to Qrow Branwen, the Grimm were created by the god of darkness in order to destroy his older brother's creations of life. Eventually, the brothers ended their feud and both created Humanity, however, despite the younger god's involvement in creating Humanity, the Grimm were still left to roam Remnant and prey on them. “ -RWBY Wikia
I think, that as a little minor haha take that, when the god of darkness killed the humans and brought them back, he made them look like himself to spite his brother who had previously created the animals (hence why they look like the animals themselves)
It’s interesting to note that the God of Darkness was kinder to the humans than his brother. Where as the God of Light put priority over their children, the God of Darkness was empathetic, and when he wiped the planet he did so quick and painlessly. Whereas his brother continued to cause pain to Salem, and even went back on what he said to make his own ends meet.
Both are not very good beings. And lack the basic understanding of Love. A common theme in RWBY. Love and Compassion are what create purity and strength. And the brothers of grimm were VERY quick to not only turn on each other but also quick to destroy their “experiment” of a world. To the Gods, the world of RWBY is but a play thing and like a weird ant farm.
But back to it- The humans are both of the gods creations, but the faunus are specifically the god of darkness’ kiddos.
Which somehow...translated over to modern times.
I’m curious to know where along the line this happened. But I think that either Salem’s story about the gods created a distaste for the god of darkness, and therefor his children, Or Salem herself had a hand in it. I think it’d be the former, since she seems to still be considerate of people’s plights and doesn’t outright like suffering. I don’t think she would have started the whole, “Lets destroy the faunus”
Salem is not Cruel. She is corrupted and quick tempered, and yes she is careless in her rage, but she is not a cruel thing. She is even capable of being gentle and kind to a degree, when it suites her but still.
She might have seen Cinder as something like a daughter, something that the dormant mother in herself would connect with. Which may be interesting seeing as once again, due to her actions her child is dead.
Some of this may be off, I’m brushing up on all the world of remnants and back stories. But for the most part, the world of remnants have their own places in the narrative. And if you think it might be a symbol, chances are, IT IS.
Like the fact that Mistral looks like the dragon brothers side by side, or that the lands above vacuo are SUSPICIOUSLY dragon shaped.
Or that the color combos are insanely matchy matchy.
Or that every song ever has been foreshadowing and RIDDLED with spoilers and back story.
Go back and listen to to Salem’s songs, and now you’ll see them in a new light, Like Divide which was then Salem to Ozpin, but now is Salem to Ozma AND the Gods. Infact, a small portion of Divide can be heard when Salem and Ozma reveal themselves to the humans.
Sacrifice, “falls from grace are never elegant, stars will fall and drop out the sky”
Tumblr media
“show them gods and deities, blindly keep the people on their knees”
I once thought that Sacrifice was a story between Salem and Ruby, but now its SO MUCH MORE.
The song isn’t about ruby at all, its from Salem TO the GODS.

Team RWBY Yu-Gi-Oh! Ace Monsters
So this idea has been floating around in my mind for some time, and I finally decided to crack down and do it; have to admit it was pretty fun to create these effects, and in some cases, some MIGHT be broken, but hey, letting loose and having fun does that, so with that out of the way, let’s check out the girls’ ace cards.
WARNING: This is going to be a VERY LONG post lol.
Scythe Huntress – Crescent Rose
Level 7
LIGHT
Pendulum Scale: 0
ATK: 2500/DEF:1800
Warrior/Pendulum/Effect
Pendulum Effect: If you control a face-up Synchro, Xyz, or Fusion monster, you can Special Summon this card from the Pendulum Zone. When a Spell/Trap or monster effect that targets a face-up Synchro, Xyz, or Fusion monster you control is activated: you can destroy this card: negate the activation, and if you do so, destroy that card.
Effect: If you control a face-up Synchro, Xyz, or Fusion monster, you can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this card destroys a monster in battle: deal damage equal to half of the destroyed monster’s ATK. When a face-up Synchro, Xyz, or Fusion monster you control is targeted for an attack: you can destroy this card, and if you do so, negate that attack and destroy the attacking monster.
Both Crescent Rose’s normal and Pendulum effect symbolizes how Ruby’s always ready to help her team out and be by their side at a moment’s notice, as well as doing everything she can in her power to protect them, even if she’s a bit reckless and doing so, but hey, that’s how our Ruby rolls.
________________________________________________________________
Frozen Queen – Myrtenaster
Level 8
WATER
ATK: 2700/DEF:2200
Warrior/Synchro/Effect
1 WATER Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, you can change the Attribute of this card to any type you wish: apply the following effects to the selected Attribute:
WATER: Target 1 monster on the field, (except this card) Special Summon 1 “Frozen Queen Token” (Warrior/WATER/Level 5) and apply the targeted monster’s ATK & DEF to that Token.
FIRE: Banish 1 card your opponent controls, and if you do, this card loses 500 ATK & DEF.
WIND: Your opponent cannot activate Spell/Trap or monster effects during the Battle Phase.
EARTH: Monster you control deal piercing battle damage.
LIGHT: This card cannot be destroyed by battle.
DARK: This card cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects.
Myrtenaster has the ability to change it’s attribute once per turn at will to accommodate the situation, the attribute changing in reference to the many types of Dust Crystals in the RWBYverse, as well as Weiss being the Schnee Dust heiress (hopefully she overthrows her father and brother and takes back what’s hers) and the WATER attribute effect paying homage to Weiss’ summoning ability.
________________________________________________________________
Shadow Predator – Gambol Shroud
Rank 8
DARK
ATK: 2800/DEF:1700
Warrior/Xyz/Effect
2 Level 8 monsters
You can also Xyz Summon this card by using 1 Rank 4 or 5 Xyz monster you control as material. (Transfer its materials to this card). This card cannot be destroy by battle up to the number of materials attached to this card. You can detach a material from this card, and if you do, until the end of your turn: halve this card’s ATK, this card can attack directly this turn. If you control other monster besides this card, your opponent can only declare attacks on this card.
Gambol Shroud is quite possibly the most basic of the Ace Monsters; the ability to protect itself up to the number of materials attached to it, refencing Blake’s ability to protect herself by making clones, and by extension others...as we saw at the end of Volume 3, though that encounter didn’t end well. Finally, the ability to directly attack the opponent and bypass their monsters is inspired from Blake’s quickness and the stealthiness that all Faunas possess, as we learned when they won the great war during Volume 1. Kinda stretching it there, but at least it ties in her Faunas heritage.
________________________________________________________________
Dragon Empress – Ember Celica
Level 8
FIRE
ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000
Warrior/Fusion/Effect
2 FIRE monsters
You can Fusion Summon this card by returning 2 FIRE monsters you control on your side of the field back to your Deck. (You do not use "Polymerization".)
You can only use the (2) effect of this card once per turn.
(1) When this card is Special Summoned: destroy all monsters on your side of the field (except this card), and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the combined Level of the destroyed monsters x 100.
(2) You can send 1 FIRE monster from your Deck to your GY, and if you do, inflict damage equal to the sent monster's ATK. This card cannot attack the turn this effect was activated.
I’d like to retract my previous statement about Gambol Shroud being the most basic of the four; Ember Celica can sum all her abilities up with a letter and a word: I BURN. Keeping Yang’s very impulsive and explosive nature (pre-Volume 3 in mind; losing that arm really shook her up) Ember Celica likes turning up the heat by dealing burn damage, be it when she’s summoned to the field and burns it down, like when Yang completely trashes Junior’s club in the Yellow trailer, or preferring to fight from a distance and just letting her blasts do all the work, hence the sent FIRE monsters from the deck to the graveyard acting as ammunition. Plus no Polymerization needed to get her out; just a good ol’ contact fusion made famous by Judai and of course the Worlds-winning Gladiator Beasts.
And why Dragon Empress? Well, as Tai put it, Yang IS his sunny little dragon.
________________________________________________________________
EXTRA-NESS INCOMING!
Silver-Eyes Crescent Dragon
Link – 4
LIGHT
ATK: 3000
Link Arrows: Bottom Left, Bottom, Bottom Right, Top
Dragon/Link/Effect
2+ monsters
This card gains effects based on the Type of monster this card points to:
Pendulum: When this card destroy a monster, inflict damage equal to that destroyed monster’s ATK.
Fusion: Once per turn, you can destroy 1 monster on the field.
Synchro: Once per turn, you can destroy 1 Spell/Trap card on the field
Xyz: Twice per turn, this card is unaffected by card effects.
Link: This card can attack twice.
Originally when I conceived this idea, Crescent Rose was a normal Effect Monster and Silver-Eyes was the Pendulum, then Vrains came knocking on the door and brought Link Summoning with it. You could call this Ruby’s TRUE ace, being a reference to her destiny as a silver-eyed warrior, and her weapon, Crescent Rose. Silver-Eyes is only as strong when the right Types of monsters are inhabiting the monster zones its Link Arrows point too; play your cards right, and Silver-Eyes can be a valuable asset.

So...I’m pretty sure this qualifies as my longest tumblr post I’ve ever done, but I at least had fun, and hopefully you all will find some amusement out of this. Hope you all enjoyed.

I’m here to guide you weary souls that tried looking into the RWBY fandom and found nothing but salty fans. I’m here to give a light spoilers guide to the anime RWBY. (less spoilers then wondering off to the wiki would do)  So you can know what it is about, from a person who absolutely loves the show.
Quick note: The series calls it’s Seasons “Volumes” and it’s Episodes “Chapters”
1.  RWBY is an American made Fantasy Anime. Made in 2013. You even get to this fact without finding some salty person going wElL hOw CaN iT bE aNiMe If ItS aMeRiCaN? Well let me tell you how.
RWBY is created by a lovely person named Monty Oum. Who unfortunately died in 2015 between making Volume 2 and 3. But He wanted to make sure the animation style was in line with that of Anime. As an Asian American man I trust his judgement well enough. (Please don’t diminish his death. He was hard working enough that he planned years of the show with the other writers-- so they still have a guide that follows in his name)
And if that’s not enough for you. In 2014 Japan got the rights to Dub RWBY in Japanese and in 2015 that Dub was released. And in fact, similar to most anime’s, but in Japan it became quite a popular anime. (And it had some quite famous Japanese Voice Actors)
On top of that a manga was made and released November 2015. (Note: I’m not sure how canon these are.) Manga volume one link [x]
And then on top of this. I’d like to add. Jack Pattillo’s words. Cause I think it’s great. But there was an Off Topic. If anyone can let me know which one that would be great. But I clearly remember the group talking about anime and him asking the group if “they go to high school. If they go to school then it’s an anime.” Or something along those lines. And the characters in RWBY do in fact go to high school.
2. RWBY is a show about girls fighting monsters.
At least that’s what the premise is. RWBY follows a team of girls who are training to become hunters and huntresses. Those of which fight the monsters of the world called Grimm. Yes, Grimm. As in the Brother’s Grimm. As in Fairy Tales. Because the anime and characters all have Fairy Tale themes to them.
Overall that’s what it comes down to. It's girls fighting monsters. (light spoilers ahead) and then there’s the whole subplot that leads up to where we are currently in hiatus as we wait for Volume 8 to come out. But we find out that the ultimate goal is to destroy the creator/master of Grimm.
But if you want to know even more about the lore and backstory of the show you can always watch World of Remnant. Youtube. [x] It explains a bit more on the Grimm and explains the Maidens a bit more. But for a simple explanation Maidens are similar to the Avatar (Avatar the Last Airbender) in which they control the weather and are more powerful. Except there’s 4 of them instead of just one and they are based on the seasons. They could also be used to fight the Grimm.
But if you really really want to avoid spoilers this is all you really need to know. It’s a simple concept, but there’s a lot of depth to it. Thus this post continuing.
3. RWBY is an acronym.
Okay so the show mainly follows the main character Ruby Rose. And her (volume 1 spoilers) team RWBY. RWBY (pronounced Ruby)  is an acronym for the names of the characters in Ruby’s team. Which stand for --
Ruby Rose. [ Voiced by Lindsay Jones -- Dubbed by Saori Hayami ] Weiss Schnee.  [ Voiced by Kara Eberle -- Dubbed by  Yōko Hikasa ] Blake Belladonna. [ Voiced by Arryn Zech -- Dubbed by Yū Shimamura ] Yang Xiao Long. [ Voiced by Barbara Dunkleman -- Dubbed by Ami Koshimizu ]
If you want to know more of the voice actors, English and Japanese alike. This is the one time I’ll say the RWBY wiki is safe enough spoiler-wise. [x] It’s fun cause we get a mix of Rooster Teeth staff and notable Voice actors. (like Elizabeth Maxwell)
RWBY is also a pun on their names. Cause majority of the characters and team names are based on Colours. So Red/White/Black/Yellow as what matches their Colour Aesthetics.
These 4 are the main characters. They are what is important in the show. They get the most screen time cause they are who the show is following.
But of course there are other side characters and teams that we all love and adore. The noted ones are team JNPR, team CVFY and team SSSN. They follow the same rules as the original team. In which the letters represent the names of the characters in the team. Often the first letter of the team name usually matches up with the name for the team leader.
Luckily if you end up a fan of team JNPR (pronounced Juniper) you’re in luck. They become part of the main supporting cast.
If you happen to be fans of team CVFY (pronounced coffee) or team SSSN (pronounced Sun) you’re in luck. As of 2019 we have canon books. Written by E.C. Myers that follow these teams and talk about their back story and such. If you want to avoid spoilers I recommend not picking them up til after you see Volume 3. But it’s not required. If the animation is something you don’t like, but you’re still interested in the concept I highly recommend these.
Amazon Link book one [x] // Amazon link book two [x]
If you happen to be fans of team NDGO (my url sake) or team BRNZ well too bad you get nothing. Love the characters while they have screen time. (light spoilers) And it seemed we got slightly lucky with team FNKI they got more screen time, and here’s hoping for more.
Fun note: The writers are cheeky and even called the crew that works on the show CRWBY which they also have a show on the behind the scenes if you’re interested in that [x] (you do have to be a first member for this one tho)
4. The weapons are important. They also have “powers” This is just what makes the show cool.
Quick run down. Hunters/Huntresses are what they call those who fight Grimm. They all have their own weapons, which seems to work with their fighting style and Semblance.
Semblance is what they call their superpower in this show. Everyone has one. Some are not as remarkable as others. It’s very very similar to Quirks in the anime My Hero Academia. It’s kind of a one time use per battle type thing. But it tends to match the personality of the characters.
Aura is what they call their life force. But works more like MP opposed to HP in video game terms. It’s more of an internal personal power source, and running out makes you very weak. Aura is your shield. It’s what protects you from dying. You can heal with aura or you can use your semblance with your Aura.
Their weapons use an artificial power source called Dust. You can use your Aura to amplify it. Dust is just gems you use to power things. Most of them are elemental based. Fire, Ice, Lightning, Gravity, Hard Light, Plant, Earth, Steam, Water, Wind.
There might be more, but that’s what we’ve for sure have seen used. Add the Dust to your weapon, and use the Dust as needed. Majority of that time is bullets. Because a lot of their weapons have gun elements to them. For the weapons transform. Most of the weapons are a 2-in-1 type special. But some are more than 2. Depending on the fighter and their needs. Every weapon is highly personalized.
The weapon’s of team RWBY is as follows: Ruby has her weapon called Crescent Rose, a sniper rifle that transforms into a large scythe. That scythe is used a lot in promotional things involving the show RWBY. Ruby simply uses bullets, which she often uses for propulsion around her environment.
Weiss’ weapon Myrtenaster is a Rapier which transforms into Revolver. Which honestly, i don’t often see it out of the Rapier form so I almost forgot about this fact.
Blake’s weapon Gambol Shroud is a Katana, Cleaver, Pistol and Kusarigama. This one is particularly useful. For the most part this weapon is often transforming to her needs. She’s very much a fast moving, thinking on her toes type fighter.
Yang’s weapon Ember Celica is a Gauntlet shotgun. It’s literally guns she wears on her wrists. Like Ruby she also takes advantage of the gun for propulsion.
It’s really neat that they have names for all their weapons actually. That tells you how important the weapons are in the show.
A lot of the weapons are fun tho. And some are harder to tell what they are until you see them in action. The most notable is that of one Velvet Scarlatina. Her weapon Anesidora was a fan favourite due to its secrecy. For you only see it as a box introduced in Volume 2. Which had all the fans guessing what would be in the box. Including myself [x] which got noticed by the voice actor Caiti Ward herself. But ultimately the reveal in the end of Volume 3 was well worth the wait and was quite satisfying. (this i refuse to spoil)
5. A bit of plot, but I got to mention the Fantasy Racism™
So there’s a fantasy race called Faunus. Which are humans with animal traits. It could be any animal trait, belonging to any animal. But only one trait. The most common seems to be ears or a tail. On top of that, the majority of Faunus get the ability to have night vision. (volume one spoilers) The most notable is that of Blake Belladonna and Sun Wukung (leader of team SSSN, Voiced by Micheal Jones --Tomoaki Maeno)
Blake having Cat ears and Sun having a monkey tail. Whenever the story focuses on the Fantasy Racism™ It focuses on these two the most.
It is a large subplot of Faunus' rebellion and such. It’s really interesting how they handle this.
On a more touchy topic. There is also the matter of LGBT characters. Now in the canon we have at least two canon Lesbians and one canon Trans character. This is one of the things the fandom gets the most salty about. The writers are trying their best. They even claimed they handled the setup badly and so things are slowed down a bit when it comes to representation. They have done a decent job since. They have hired a new writer since.
6. It’s a well thought out show.
Look I can babble about this show forever. But overall I don’t want to spoil too much of it. I might still make a second post that’s a bit more plot heavy. Of the show up through Volume 7. A here’s what you missed on type thing. But to keep this post mostly spoiler free I’m going to wrap it up.
RWBY also has its own guide book [x] which if you really want to know more about the semblances and weapons and characters and such it’s very useful.
They also have their own DC comic books. [x] Which i think is really really cool. but i’m lame and haven’t been to the comic book store in a long time and i don’t feel like paying for shipping.
So as I said earlier, the animation style isn’t for everyone. Especially within Volumes 1-3. So the comics and books and manga are a great way to get into the series.
They also have a brand new show. A DND campaign based on the show’s setting. If you like the concept of the show but want it in an DND setting. RWBY the Grimm Campaign. It’s really fun. (and you get new teams to love like team SMMK) RT site [x]  (this one you can watch the first episode for free and after that you gotta pay to be a first member)
The music is really epic and composed by Jeff Williams. Most of which are songs song by his daughter Casey Williams. The songs have been known to drop some foreshadowing for the show. This person [x] is nice enough to have a playlist on youtube. And there was a nice surprise last Volume, the lovely Caleb Hyles sang one of the songs. Here [x]
They also have a show called RWBY Chibi which is non-canon silliness. Drawn in more of a cartoon style.  Which is basically an OVA. Which is 64 episodes which are all less than 5 mins. RT site [x] or youtube playlist [x]
And since it’s become such a big show, with lots of support we’ve been blessed with things like a mobile crystal game [ RWBY Crystal Quest ] and even a video game [ RWBY: Grimm Eclipse ] and a board game [ RWBY: Combat Ready ].
The board game is actually lots of fun. I’ve played it with friends.
But yes. Please. Give RWBY a chance if you haven’t. It’s fun and great. No matter how salty the fans get.

Celebrity (Final Rose)
"Yang,” Ruby whispered, tugging on her sister’s arm. “People are staring at us.”
The blonde smirked. “Of course, they’re staring. We’re part of Team RWBY.”
“And…?”
“Ruby…” Yang sighed in fond exasperation. “Did you forget our last mission? We had to help save that town along the frontier. They didn’t have enough time to evacuate everyone, so the militia had to dig in and hope for the best. Since we showed up, they actually managed to drive the Grimm back.”
“Well, yeah,” Ruby replied. “Of course we did all that. That’s what huntresses do.”
“Maybe qualified huntresses, but we’re still just students, and there was a news crew there too. Think about. We’re the daughters of famous people attending the most famous academy in the world while taking on hordes of Grimm. We’re basically celebrities now.”
Ruby grimaced. “Do we have to be? I don’t like people staring at me.”
“Get used to it,” Yang said with a shrug. “Look. Everyone expects the world of us given who are parents are, and now that we’ve started to deliver, people are getting excited. Just think of how much Team STRQ have been able to do. It’s no wonder people are interested. If we pull off even half the stuff they did, think of all the good we’d be doing. The Grimm scare people, but seeing young huntsmen and huntresses out there killing them gives everybody hope.”
“I guess.” Ruby looked about furtively. “I just want to help. I don’t want… you know… everything else.”
“Like I said, get used to. With the tournament coming up it’s only going to get worse. People on the InfoNet have already started speculating about which team is going to win the title this year.”
“Isn’t it just going to be Team ACEJ?” Ruby asked. “They haven’t lost to anyone this year, and that’s including the older students too.”
“You never know,” Yang replied. “Maybe we get lucky, or maybe we come up with a plan they can’t handle, but people on the InfoNet are really giving us a good chance of placing in the top 8.”
“The top 8?” Ruby huffed. “We have to at least get to the top 4, don’t we?”
“That’s the spirit,” Yang said. “But just relax. People might come up to you for an autograph or a picture. Let me handle it, and I’m sure we’ll start getting training about how to deal with this when the next semester starts.”
“I hope so.” Ruby sighed. “Having all of these people look at me is creepy.”
Yang laughed. “Hey, it could be worse. Can you imagine if we had an actual princess on our team?”
Elsa had never been happier to see Jahne in her life. After being followed (stalked) by some fans while on a shopping trip, she’d run into Jahne. The other blonde had swiftly used a pair of illusions to alter their appearance and create some decoys.
“Thanks.” Elsa relaxed. “Another article must have come out, right?”
“Of course. We’re the odds-on-favourite to win the team section of the tournament, so the attention is only to be expected. Besides, you’re a princess. You’re already a celebrity on top of being a student at Beacon.”
“I hope Averia and Claire are okay. They went on an errand as well.”
Averia loved her sister very much. She also loved the fact that Diana’s devotion to pranks had resulted in her developing all sorts of disguise-oriented technology. After seeing some articles on the InfoNet and in magazines, she had wisely decided to ask Diana for some gear to help her and Claire get through their trip unscathed.
Enter special hair dye that could completely alter her hair colour and wash out instantly when exposed to a special solution, along with a voice changer and special contact lenses.
“Diana is the best, isn’t she?” Claire drawled as the two of them walked through the shopping mall completely unnoticed.
“She does have her moments,” Averia agreed with a grin. “Although maybe we should have asked her for some stuff to give to Ruby too.”
“Ruby should be fine,” Claire replied. “She’s with Yang today.”
“And Jahne did say she’d go find Elsa,” Averia murmured. “That just leaves Weiss and Blake…”
“Professor,” Weiss growled as she threw another table in front of the door. “Blake and I need immediate extraction. I repeat: we need a cloaked fast mover at our location immediately.”
Vanille stared back at Weiss. “Weiss, we both know that I do not have high-speed aircraft with multi-sensory cloaking abilities. That would be highly illegal.”
“Professor!” Weiss shrieked. “We both know that you have high speed aircraft that are completely impervious to conventional scanning technology! I need one of them at my location right now, or so help me…”
“It’s that bad?” Vanille fed Professor Cuddles a treat and gave his belly a scratch. The hamster appeared to be wearing yet another outfit, this time a fireman’s outfit. “I guess I could send a drone with an expandable cloaking field. You and Blake would have to jump on, but it’s big enough to carry you, and it could be there in about five minutes.”
“That quickly?”
Vanille shrugged. “Technically, it’s Diana’s drone. She’s been using it to spy on the routes some armoured cars take. A certain bank hired her to test their security, and she has a feeling they’re not randomising their pickup routes enough.”
“…” Weiss took a deep breath. “Just send the drone. We can meet it on the rooftop.”
“It’ll be there in five.”
Weiss looked away from her scroll. A bevy of Blake’s clones was busy holding the doors and windows shut to prevent rabid fans from breaking in.
“Please,” Blake begged. “Tell me we’ve got a way out.”
“We need to be on the roof in five minutes. The professor has a cloaked drone coming. It’ll get us out of here.”
Blake almost wept with relief. “Finally…” She looked back at the crowd outside. “Layer some Glyphs over this whole area. I’ll add in some clones. That should be enough to buy us five minutes.”

Pay Scales (Final Rose)
How much do huntsmen and huntresses get paid? Well, to answer that question, we need to establish a baseline. Since the value of the lien is essentially arbitrary, the best approach is to determine how much the median household income is. Keep in mind that household income is the total income brought in by all members of a particular household or residence.
The median household income in Vale is 60,000 Li (60,000 Lien). Of the four major kingdoms, Vale and Atlas have the highest median household incomes (Atlas has a median household income of 65,000 Li) whereas Vacuo and Mistral have lower median household incomes (50,000 Li and 55,000 Li, respectively).
Vale has the largest overall economy, and it is relatively balanced. Atlas’s higher median house income is largely due to their advanced economy combined with their relatively small population. The lower median household income of Vacuo is the result of the poor state of the kingdom due to years of mismanagement and internecine strife. Mistral’s economy is highly polarised with the very wealthy being exceedingly wealthy and the poor being exceedingly poor.
Huntsmen and huntresses are amongst the top earners in the world due to the difficulty of their profession. In general, qualified huntsmen and huntresses will range from D Tier to EX Tier. For ease of use, missions are classified from E Tier all the way to EX Tier. A B Tier mission will require a B Tier team (i.e., four individuals with an average rating of B Tier) to complete in a relatively safe and timely manner.
So how much do missions pay?
Well, here are some rough figures (a single huntsman or huntress would get the entire sum whereas a team of four would split it between them):
E Tier Mission ~1000-10,000 Li
D Tier Mission ~10,000-20,000 Li
C Tier Mission ~20,000-100,000 Li
B Tier Mission ~100,000-1,000,000 Li
A Tier Mission ~1,000,000-10,000,000 Li
S Tier Mission ~10,000,000-50,000,000 Li
EX Tier Mission ~50,000,000+ Li
As you can see, the rewards can be quite lucrative. Let’s take Ruby as an example. Adult Ruby is so powerful that she could perform B Tier missions on her own. That means if she took one of those a month, she would easily be earning over a million lien a year.
But are huntsmen and huntresses worth the cost?
As a matter of fact, they are. Let’s look at a typical A Tier mission. A normal A Tier mission will involve dealing with a small horde of Grimm led by several A Tier Grimm or a single S Tier Grimm. To fight off such a horde, you’d need at least a thousand standard troops backed by some form of heavy fire support (e.g., artillery) since actually killing more powerful Grimm is generally impossible with small arms fire. Hiring that many soldiers and that much equipment is going to cost a lot more than hiring a team of huntsmen or huntresses.
This is one of the reasons people aspire to be huntsmen and huntresses. If someone has a B Tier team and takes, say, 2 B Tier missions a year, 4 C Tier missions, then they’re already earning far more on their own than most households earn in total. It is also not uncommon for teams that are ranked B Tier and higher to be paid a yearly retainer by various groups (e.g., the government, the military, a large company, etc.) to ensure they get priority. These retainers are typically in the vicinity of 50,000 Li each at a minimum.
The dramatic increase in payment as difficulty increases also explains why powerful huntsmen and huntresses are so influential. Someone like Lightning is so powerful that she can complete an EX Tier mission on her own. However, to make things quicker and less likely to get messy, she might hire some other huntsmen and huntress to accompany her. Anyone she hires can earn a huge amount of money since the payment for an EX Tier mission is gigantic, and she would be paying them out of her own payment.
Unfortunately, the pay scale is also responsible for many deaths. In a bid to increase their earnings, it is not unusual for huntsmen and huntresses to take on difficult missions alone or for teams to take on missions they are not qualified for. Success, of course, can mean a great financial windfall. Failure is generally deadly.
Hunting is a deadly business, but it also a very lucrative one. It’s little wonder, then, that huntsmen and huntresses are often some of the most famous celebrities in the world.

Note
Hi! Question: will the plushies be involved in the Final Effect AU? Because I remember a snippet where they actually save a world (I think they also saved Aqua and defended the KH Universe). I mean, maybe they are not a main force of attack but more like guarding the worlds saved from reapers. Also, are there plushies of every hunter/huntress? Like an Elsa plush, Korra plush, Asami plush...? And which one is the most sold?
The plush toys were a unique response to the Heartless, which thrive off the hearts of others. Since the plush toys are not synthetics (i.e., they don’t have Hearts, Aura, or souls like Penny), they are impervious to Heartless corruption.
When that AU encountered the Heartless, the plush toys were deployed en masse because deploying regular troops would be too risky. They are heartless, soulless killing machines who have no concept of mercy when it comes to the Heartless. They exist to protect all those with Hearts and to extirpate the Heartless from all possible timelines and universes. They also enjoy a good cuddle now and then.
At the moment, they aren’t necessary in Final Effect since the Reapers can be dealt with using the Empire’s Conventional forces. However, killer robots will be deployed, and some of them may well have an adorable appearance to avoid frightening the populace. Certainly, the Dia-Farron have countless schematics and plans for killer robots, plush toys, and killer plush toys .
Basically, the more famous someone is, the more likely they are to get a plush toy. Although not everyone will have a plush toy while attending Beacon, by the time Final Effect roles around all of the prominent figures will have their own plush toys. Which plush toy is most popular depends on where you are. In the Empire, plush toys associated with the House of Farron-Arendelle are the most popular. In the Alliance, you’re looking at Schnee-related plush toys (the House of Schnee includes all of the descendants of Team RWBY along with some others). If it’s a House of Sato (Korra and Asami’s descendants), they’re most popular in the Federation, as are the House of Nikos and the House of Lie-Valkyrie plush toys.
It is generally considered good luck to give a newborn baby a plush toy of the legend from the Age of Heroes that you want them to be like. So if you want an incredibly intelligent child, you might give them a Vanille plush toy. If you want an emotional hedgehog of a kid who is also good at almost everything, get your kid a Lightning plush toy. If you want a cookie-devouring monster of a child, get them a Ruby.
Another common custom is for parents to lay out plush toys in front of their baby to see which one they choose. Some people believe that the baby’s choice will reflect their future career or personality. So if your baby grabs a Diana plush toy, then watch out. You’re going to be busy.
