A Guide To Shooting In Natural Light

A Guide On Using The Sun As A Light Source:

The first and most important thing, is that you must always be aware of your own postition in relation to the sun, because it's the only thing you can actually control.

You won't ever be able to control how hot the sun is, or when it goes behind clouds but you'll always be able to control you're own positioning.

To understand the reason for this, you must understand the difference between diffused and direct light.

Meet Chantel. She's our model photographed below, and she was kind enough to pose for us.

Observe in the image below how the direct sunlight completely covers Chantel and she is completely exposed with realy only the shadow under her neck and the shadows of the soccer net falling over her.

Now in the image below, with Chantel photographed in a medium close-up, we no longer have the sun light falling over her face and covering her completely, and more darkness and shadow completely covering the right side of her face.

Her hair and her positioning provide some diffusion in this case and because the sun is to her left, light is almost completely blocked off.

Now observe in the picture below is very different because her face is exposed with no shadow falling over it.

In this case, we used a reflector to fill out all the shadows that would otherwise be present on her face, and because I used the gold side of the reflector, you can see the kind of golden glow brought on by the reflector reflecting the sunlight.

By utilizing a reflector we are taking more control of what we are looking at and the lighting situation that we are in as well as using our positiong relative to the sun.

This is a thoery that get way more in-depth the deeper in to photography you go, more especially in studio lighting situations, but even in you favorite television shows, an intense amount of thought and gear is needed to capture what you may percieve as an ordinary scene outdoors.

This video above is from Crimson Engine and he's one of the best youtubers I've watched as it pertains to all things film and video.

Because he is working in video and not stills, and becasue he is primarily shooting actors, Crimson Engine utilizes c-stands, flags, reflectors, large diffusion filters and other equipment that is quite heavy but sometimes completely necessary.

Another really informative piece of video about this top is from In Depth Cine, and he has a guide on lighting scenes without lights at all, and to do this he advises bouncing reflectors.

So in a situation where you cannot control your lighting, say like a sporting event, your best hack is to always understand where you are in relation to where the sun is.

Understanding this well enough will allow you to get good well exposed photographs even though your are in the outdoor with no equipment.

Okay I literally just saw Grim’s groovy two seconds ago but 😭😭😭 His cuteness aside, the fact that the portraits from Crowley’s office are there, hung up on the walls of the museum…

And just considering Grim’s ungroovied card where he poses with Mickey in the mirror…is this set in the future?!? Because the Overblotters get their own portraits too, so did something happen at NRC for all them to become parts of Twisted Wonderland history 🧎 Did they just confiscate Crowley’s portraits if he actually turned out to be evil and they defeated him or something 😭😭😭 HELP MY BRAIN CELLS ARENT CONNECTING

Edit: interesting the Landof Dawning Musuem is having their 100th anniversary or whatever, and the whole RSA vs NRC thing has been going on for 99 years. Is this really set one year in the future????

Another edit: yeah I’m even more suspicious because the mirror looks oddly clear/clean compared to its original state in Ramshackle 🧍

Edit number 3 lmaoo: I actually feel more certain about this considering JAMIL gets the spotlight over Kalim. If it was just the Housewardens I wouldn’t be as suspicious but…it really is all the Overblotters put together, matching up with the Great 7 portraits. Hmmmm🧐

It’s alright if you haven't played Disney Princess: My Fairytale Adventure because I’m here to explain!

The game dwells on Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Frog Disney movies. Actually there’s another game called Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey where MC enters The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Aladdin, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast Disney realms.

It’s implied MC knows the plot of the disney movies. In this work Yuu knows all the Disney movies existing up to today. I’ll also make a lot of references to not only listed but other disney movies too! This is an original take on RSA and a great part of the fic will be devoted to RSA and its characters I created with the help of my dear friend. But NRC remains the crucial part of the story.

Yuu wields a magic wand, and it’s pretty much similar to the original game except for the fact I changed the design.

A lot of magic study! Yuu is quite a remarkable sorceress but she’s not imbalanced.

Yuu doesn’t remember her past, why and when she became the Fairy Godmother’s apprentice, but I’ll dwell on it as the story progresses.

And finally, I hope you’ll have fun reading this ^^ I may be slow with writing chapters but I hope I’ll manage to post one chapter per month!

Scottish artist Craigie Aitchison CBE RA RSA (1926-2009) was well known for his paintings depicting landscapes, portraits, and crucifixion scenes in a distinctive Mediterranean palette.

Andrew Lambirth, who knew Craigie for 20 years wrote wrote so stories in the Atchinson's Catalogue Raisonné. Here are a few bits of his recollections:

"Although Scottish by birth, Aitchison moved to London in 1963, and thereafter divided his time between his terraced house in Lambeth and a second home in Italy, outside Siena. He painted still-life subjects, religious pictures, portraits and nudes, landscapes and his dogs. His preferred models tended to be West Indian or African because he loved the way other colours looked next to warm skin tones.

The first painting by Aitchison to enter a UK public collection was Model Standing Against a Blue Wall (1962), when it was bought by the Tate from the Beaux Arts Gallery in 1964.

Some of Aitchison's most popular paintings have been of objects he lived with: a tea caddy or a candlestick, a cup or a vase (mostly with flowers in it), a cellophane-wrapped Italian Easter egg or a handful of liquorice allsorts.

If Aitchison found a good model, he would paint him or her repeatedly, and his all-time favourite was Georgeous Macaulay.

There are several of his Crucifixions in public collections, but one of the most memorable is in Birmingham, dating from 1984–1986. A large canvas, as many of Aitchison's late Crucifixions are, it depicts Christ on the cross, but without any arms.

Aitchison was quite prepared to take liberties with human anatomy if it helped him to make the image more powerful, and his Christ figures sometimes have only one arm or one leg. (As he once replied to an interviewer who asked him why he did this: 'Not everyone is lucky enough to be born with two arms and two legs'.)

Craigie first painted a Crucifixion when he was a student at the Slade School of Fine Art, which is part of University College in London. One of the teachers said: 'It's a very serious subject and much too big a subject for you to tackle.' But that only spurred Craigie on to paint another one.

He never succumbed to adverse criticism, though he remembered it and was clearly wounded by it. Two visiting Slade tutors, Victor Pasmore and John Piper, both told him to give up painting. Thankfully he didn't. As he said, if it had been somebody he really respected, like L. S. Lowry, also a visiting teacher, he might have paid attention. But Lowry only encouraged him.

Considering the crowded nature of his home, he was surprisingly minimalistic in his art, as well as a great colourist. He thought his intensely poetic images were quite straightforward, but they are impossible to imitate convincingly. Although they look so effortless, he himself often had trouble with them.

In another interview with me in 2004, Aitchison discussed this: 'That seems to be all that it's about – deciding. Somebody said that painting is a complete and absolute way of having to make up one's mind. Whether to put two trees instead of one, or to leave it. It's exhausting trying to make up your mind. If it wasn't like that it would just be boring to do.'

MATT PATT THEORY TIME LET'S GO!!!!

Spoilers of Twisted Wonderland Chapter 7 part 4, so read this once u know what's going on

Before chapter 7 began, I had heard theories of Crowly and Malleus being familiar, but that is when the Mascaque (fuck spelling) event in the JP server change.

Malleus outfit looks similar to Crowley's outfit by the feathers. Even looking closer, their hair color is similar too. The black wavy hair mix of bluish greenish hair. Some folks said about Croley being a fae of some sort by his pointy ears

From what I can say, here is that maybe Crowley is not a fae but rather a demon, but I can't say that because from all of the events so far, there has never been an Info about demons so I'm not sure if it's not canon in Twisted Wonderland or maybe the creator can't add into the Twisted Wonderland story because of Disney. Who knows, but hey it we might get a Fantasia event or not.

Another thing is Crowley counterpart: Diavolo or EQ's Crow. I say he's the Evil Queen's Crow because of the facts about Crowley, which is that he cleans the portraits of the Great Seven’s but with the Evil Queen, he cleans it multiple times. That man is a simp no cap.

But it doesn't make sense. From what I remember in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie, the crow was a bit scared of the Evil Queen during the potion scene and barely any screen time. Which leaves to believing Crowley might be Maleficent' crow, Diavolo. It would make sense since the sleeping beauty movie came out after the snow-white movie. Picture the scenario:

Before Crowley became the headmage of NRC, he was of a student who is enrolling NRC the time it opened , mayeb even training to become the next headmage for being on of the families who served one of the Great Seven’s, Maleficent, the Thorn Fairy. Since then, Dire Crowley, at a young age, was pushed to become the expectation of NRC headmage.

That's all I could think about Crowley backstory. It wouldn't make sense now that we got info on Malleus parents being the counterparts of Maleficent and Diavolo: Maleonoire and Revan. We get that Revan is a Duke fae and is married to Malleus mom, the princess of Briar Valley. Young Lilia said Revan was the only one who Maleonoire could depend on. A reference to when Diavolo succed in finding Aurora and informed Maleficent. They seem to be a good couple by how Maleonoire is a tomboy princess and Revan more of a gentleman. No wonder Malleus got his genetics from.

Now, the next thing is the year gap and the characteristics. Which is confusing, from what I know is from the dialogs in chapter 5:

"NRC and RSA have been having a rivalry for 100 years."

Wow! 100 years? Or maybe even thousands I can't remember well. When the group reach to the iron man's fort, they realize it was empty till the messenger fae bring the news of the leader of the owl knights and even the dawn of knight are reaching the Briar castle where Maleonoire guarding the egg.

Here comes the sad part, dragon eggs hatch by their parents' love and magic. Revan disappeared which Maleonoire had to be the only one protecting the egg, she send General Lilia and other solders to go by foot to find any missing fae soldiers and even her husband who had been missing for year or more. Once Yuu gets another dream of Maleficent story, the one scene where she managed to get Aurora to prick her finger in a spinning wheel and the three fairies found her unconscious body on the floor. The group finally made it to the castle, sneaking inside but with iron traps, so it's up to our trio group, but they need to be near Lilia or else they'll encounter the blot. Back to the story, the group only got there too late. The dawn hero and Maleonoire, being hostage with iron tools surrounding her, and the egg are in the enemy's hand. The dawn hero was about to kill the egg till Lilia managed to take it away from him, but it's not over. Maleonoire was badly killed for either protecting her allies or Young Lilia. I say Lilia for giving him her last order.

"Lilia....guide my hatchling to the right path...don't let them do what I did..."

Why these lines? Maleonoire properly didn't want Malleus to be a hot-head person like she was, wanting him to be more of his father Revan, who is more friendlier than his mother. To be different then the previous rulers of draconians who are more ruthless than kindness.

Now, back to Crowley, he does not fit with Revan's personality. We know Crowley can be a bit greedy for his vacation plans, even leaving his job to a magicless student, even lie so that he wouldn't have to do his job. If Revan was the headmage, he would give the task to someone who is more experienced and more knowledgeable. Revan wouldn't dare to lie to Maleonoire.

Revan seems to be true with his words, so what happened with him he might have met his demise.

Well, that just makes Malleus an "official Disney princess".........okay it's a joke.

But hey, that's just a theory, A GAME THEORY

TWST!Theseus [OC] Headcanons [+ more about his relationship with Medea!Yuu]

He was supposed to be a random family member and then developed, oops!

He attends RSA, but this doesn't affect his relationship with Medea!Yuu all that much

He’s older than Medea!Yuu by one year

I think I’ve mentioned this before but the siblings look nothing alike

He’s interested in sword fighting, horse riding and other typical ‘prince/hero’ activities but he also enjoys fishing

He’s kind of a ‘bad boy’ by RSA standards, he’s really just a bit weird with a temper

In this version he’s still technically a demigod [which means he definitely has some daddy issues]

He had a girlfriend, but he only dated her because all his friends were starting to get into relationships and he felt like he had too as well. Medea!Yuu still brings it up.

He refers to himself as Medea!Yuu’s sibling, while they refer to him as their half-brother [they’re both wrong btw]

They both joke about hating each other, but neither of them actually mean it

He doesn't blame Medea!Yuu for what their mother did, this is one of the reasons their relationship is still strong

They didn't grow up together, but they were introduced in their early teens [13/14] and became fast friends

The fact that they don’t clearly look like siblings means there’s a lot of misunderstandings with people thinking he and Medea!Yuu are dating [it makes both of them really uncomfortable]

Backstory

Azure was the shadow. Azurline was the light. That was how it was supposed to be...well, until Azurline's untimely demise. To cover up the fact that his prized daughter was dead, Callus Peinture staged the death as Azure's.

She was forced to like the things Azurline liked, eat the foods Azurline usually ate and sing the songs Azurline would sing to their father at night. She hated it.

One day, her brother came back from his scholarship at a famous art school to come paint her. She wouldn't let him and threw a tantrum every time he tried. Although he was able to paint her, once. It was while she was unaware and when she found out she threw a fit and locked everyone out. It was on that same day, that she committed suicide, and her soul moved into the portrait of her made by her brother. After a century spent in the boring confines of the grey canvas, she was awoken when a black carriage entered her realm, thus starts her journey at Night Raven College.

Trivia

Peinture is a callback to the game, and is the name of the music played when painting.

Azure is French (this was decided because all of the soundtracks were French named)

Azure has killed many a painter who dare to try and finish her before her brother. Only her brother has that privilege, in every life. Which is why she still is in black and white smh

The magic mirror's initially choice was Heartslabyul, however it ultimately decided on Terrovania

Like Professor Crewel, Azure often wears half and half clothing, one side always being black and the other another color

The reincarnation of Azure's brother attends RSA

Azure once had a cat, it scratched her face however and she has despised the animal (and any other related to it) ever since, with this, she despises Leona for the sole reason that he's a part of the cat family (talk about petty)

Falciette Story Chapter 5

Daire seemed a little more quiet than the others who guided you; however , he had a soft voice when explaining things… the hallway he brought you through seemed majestic and full of history…

"There are many Kingdoms and stories connected to this dorm… hence why many relics here were placed by former kingdoms and nobles. "

A giant artful door with a dragon on it greeted you and two students standing before it. One tall with bull features and one seeming more timid… the bull speaking up.

"I expected the Pretty dorm leader to show up, but now I am disappointed. "

"V-vesper, w-we shouldn't complain."

Daire handed a piece of paper to them.

"I showed the Tetravania dorm leader around and the Ravenor sister said I should show them the relic if Tesa should fall asleep, this should explain it right?"

"Fine… but I have my hopes for next time." They both opened the door and let you into a room filled with dragon statues… and they all are drawn to two things in the middle of the room…. A sword and a shield.

"You might have heard about the story of the hero of legend and the féll dragon… these heirlooms prove that Our dorm leaders are not bound by the past… Tesa even befriended a descendant of the Hero of legend in RSA…. Like my family and sister… We have our place in this room as well."

He showed different portraits at the wall showing the Ravenor family but also.the Grandale family.

"I… still worry about my sister currently… she gets far more aggressive than she was before and… I am just hoping things will be better… so I am glad when I heard you already conquered 3 overblots before… so if something might happen…. No, I don't have to summon Doom up."

He turned back to you.

"Just please….if you notice something… tell us."

And with this line he let you out of the room again and as Vesper and Illana closed it behind you, you encountered Despoina who tapped her foot impatiently.

"There you are, why are you hanging with such a worm?"

"Sis..it's a job from-"

"I don't care actually, I want you to come with me right now."

He nodded and waved you off, signaling he showed you everything… making your way through the hallway you encountered Gabrielle again who wanted to check up on you.

"Seems the others did well to bring you through the dorm… let me Bring you to the exit for now and let's start the day rested tomorrow. "

Walking along to the start of the dormitory Gabrielle stopped and looked at the castle-like building.

"You know… the reason why my sister is in this arranged Marriage situation right now is actually me…. I was supposed to be the one taking the throne of our kingdom but I rebelled against it. It wasn't the life I wanted to live. My parents wanted me to meet suitors and what did I do… I fought 100 of them off In a big duel to prove I want to choose a partner myself and live for myself. After that they accepted my decision…

Why am I telling you this? I fell with the three Overblots you've been through. People weigh many expectations on you… just know that you don't have to meet those… you can carve your own way but… we would be grateful if you are present if something was to happen."

And with these words she sent you off back to the Elevator of the dorm.

Autour de ces verres je les écoute parler de ce qu’ils ont accompli depuis qu’on ne s’est pas vu. Je pensai être passée au travers de la grande question « qu’est ce que tu fais de tavie? ». Question si banale pourtant si révélatrice du degrés de respectabilité qu’ils porteront sur moi. Comment ils vont me parler, est ce qu’ils ont bien fait de miser sur notre amitié. Si je suis une ratée à leurs yeux, ils auront tous les droits sur moi. Pressing ou bien, on a tellement l’habitude que je ne fasse rien qu’on ne me demande plus. RSA. J’en glousse, on ne va pas en pleurer, oui j’avais des rêves mais hahaha ils sont tombés à l’eau, oui, je suis seule et ce n’est pas normal à mon âge mais pfff regardez cette liberté je pourrais partir si je voulais, oui, je voulais partir mais c’était trop compliqué, j’avais un peu peur. Tout est écourté par un « si tu l’avais vraiment voulu, tu y serais déjà » bien placé, et toc. Mise face au mur, j’ai pris le problème à l’envers. Comment faire quand rien ne se passe comme prévu? Quand ils réussissent devant tes yeux et que tu trimes seule dans ton coin? Faire le contraire. Trouver un travail lambda, de ceux dont on me disait qu’ils ne pensaient à rien ces gens là-bas, bêtes et méchants. Ils vont au travail et ne pensent à rien. Pas méchants, juste bêtes. J’ai revu mes idéaux à la baisses; enfin, surtout, pourquoi serais je au dessus de quiconque? Le premier jour en tant que caissière, mon père au téléphone, les larmes aux yeux « j’ai tout fait pour quitter ce monde et il me rattrape », je parlais de celui de la banlieue, celui dont mon école et ses anciens étudiants fantasmaient tout en le reniant quand ils y étaient confrontés. Ces petits gens. Celui où ils ne voient que la ghettoïsation, pas celui perdu, loin de Paris mais dortoir. Celui où les fins de mois sont pas trop durs mais on fait un peu attention, on part en vacances mais qu’est ce qu’on se fait chier les 6 autres semaines d’été.

Je m’égare. Normalement je dois parler de l’échec. Comme ce texte que je vais rendre trop tard, c’est raté. Mon père m’a écouté et il m’a lancé le fatal « tu te permets de parler comme ça? » je n’étais plus sa fille avec ces commentaires. Transformée en monstre qui se moquait de ses parents il y a 50 ans. Ces petits gens. L’accent trop prononcé, vivre de troc et ne pas comprendre ce pour quoi leurs enfants étudient. Petit monstre qui se permet de critiquer le monde qui l’a fait grandir. Pour l’instant, je joue à animal crossing en petit déjeunant. Il est bientôt 9h30 et je ne suis pas prête à envoyer des dossiers ou faire ces démarches qui ne me correspondent plus. Celui qui me correspond c’est celui du texte, aligner des mots, pleins de fautes. Ouvrir la boutique à 16h. Être comme les autres. Être aux yeux de ceux qui m’ont enseigné et accompagné pendant 5 ans; une ratée. Une personne de cette France qui ne lit pas, ne doit regarder rien d’autres que Avengers, bête comme ses pieds, elle n’a pas les même questionnements que nous. L’étudiante en droit, pas les même questionnements que nous, l’apprentie actrice n’est qu’une ratée aussi, la collègue de 50 ans, heureuse de son travail et de son chien mérite juste de se faire titrer le portrait dans un projet quelconque, c’est une vieille fille, la mère de famille qui veut ses mercredis et que la cheffe fait rentrer dans son bureau, en sorte en pleurant, n’est pas mieux lotit, elle ne doit pas savoir que le palais de Tokyo est un musée. Tous leurs commentaires. Je les entends. J’y ai pris partie. Pour etre comme les autres, regardez moi. Autour de ces verres je n’ai pas pu expliquer cela. J’ai parlé de rien. Laisser assumer ce qu’ils voulaient, entre le pressing et le RSA, ça ne change rien à leurs yeux. Le meilleur moyen de se venger de l’échec c’est de se taire. Ne rien dire, laisser couler, laisser passer, comme quand on tombe devant des clients à cause de ses talons trop haut ou qu’on répond à une question qu’on nous a pas posée. Un sourire et tout ira mieux. Comment faire pour rebondir? Ces yeux pleins d’espoir des professionnels de santé devant mon discours. On ne rebondi pas. On ne se bat pas. On arrête de prendre cette vie pour un champs de bataille, je vois bas ou très haut, pas médiocre. Qu’est ce que c’est que bas? Ce qu’ils m’ont vendu dans cette école tant d’années? Faire un job qualifié d’alimentaire? C’est donc ça transformer sa passion en travail? Réussir, écraser les autres, me battre pour me retrouver à la botte de personnes que je ne considère pas? Qui prennent mon mérite sous leurs noms? Rentrer le soir en croisant les doigts que mon nom fuite dans la bouche de l’un d’entre eux. Penser que, peut être, si je lui dis oui il écrira ce dit nom quelque part, en tout petit, si on s’approche assez, on le verra? C’est ça? Si c’est ça, mon échec je le vivrais non pas parce que j’y renonce mais que je préfère m’endormir en pensant à celle de 20 ans pleine d’espoir. Raconter l’histoire de Roxane de 23 ans, aux portes de cette école, un mythe, la conter dans un endroit oublié de France, cette petite légende écrit à Paris moins d’une décennie. Faux départ. En créer de vrais pour ceux qui m’écoutent. Sur le départ, le voyage contraire de mes ancêtres, rentrer non pas la queue entre les jambes, j’ai essayé, je ne me suis pas battue. Ma dignité et mon intégrité entière, j’ai dit oui à ceux que je voulais et je me suis refusée aux autres, j’ai travaillé de mon corps et de mes mains mais je n’ai jamais écrasé mes valeurs. Rentrer le sourire aux lèvres. Alors, si c’est ça, mon échec, je l’accueille les bras ouvert, ainsi que ses tous petits riens, ses souvenirs. Ils pourront bien dire que je ne pense à rien, que je n’ai peur leurs expériences, j’aurais réussi à ne pas être comme eux. Je renonce à leurs espérances pour enfin vivre avec mon bonheur, qui ne dépend ni de ma place sur leur carnet d’adresse ni des regards qu’ils portent sur moi quand je leur réponds, la bouche en coeur ; j’ai tout raté.

Re-cap of process (LO3)

Due to the advice for the word-count, I’m not writing too much in my process book & my thoughts will be explained here.

I apologize for the past typos or any which might be in this post.

Week 1:

Will it blend (warm-up exercise)

Evaluation of body of work

Will it blend: My deliverables are mostly digital files & I saw the brief as a form of practice rather than creating anything substantial (it was 1 week & my ideas take longer to formulated/acceptable).

RSA: It was interesting & thought me alot that I won’t be interested in before. I came to Visual communication to create illustrations but now have developed an interest in UX (I learnt User personas, properly designing user flows & did primary research (interviewing others which is new to me). I hope to continue editing and seeing how I can push my work.

Process book: It's not the best & I lack interest in editorial. Thus, it’s difficult to design it.
