Progresul coperții / Cover progress
Tumblr media Tumblr media

I know character towers are a joke as far as posters go, but I really think it fits the book. This story started with me doodling my OCs in middleschool, so of course I'll jam as many of them as I can on the cover. The set-up also contains a lot of hints regarding the plot itself. English version out soon!

"the sun has forgotten how you look like" the joke flies through my mind in the familiar prison of my house.
but the sun spreads my thoughts away and strips me naked to the world outside. so easy to be lost. so unknown I want to scream.
I prefer the shade. the dim lit silence before the storm, the pouring rains or winter, autumn days. the nights. when my thoughts find an imaginery point to be sustained and I have no need to use my sight to brightness, blindness, disturbance, fight.

three romanian authors to read with ur dracula daily
dracula is an orientalist text conceived at the height of british empire, grounded in distortions of a region that stoker never visited. sadly (and unsurprisingly) i found very few romanian authors who have been translated into english online, so here’s a meagre list of recs:
1. luminița cioabă
romanian roma author, famous in romania as the daughter of bulibasha (the king of the roma nation), she forged her own path as a writer of short stories in the oral roma tradition which portray in vivid detail the history of the roma people of romania
the birch grove
queen of the night and stone flower
meralda
from her book, the lost country
2. marin sorescu
from humble rural romanian roots, he wrote under the oppressive ceausescu government. in a national ironic tradition he very famously said: "Just as I can't give up smoking because I don't smoke, I can't give up writing because I have no talent." some of my favorite poems:
the sea shell (1983)
carbon paper (1980)
creation (1992)
3. paul celan
jewish poet from bucovina. i recommend this beautiful essay by ilya kaminsky, who like celan was forced to flee eastern europe due to antisemitism, deconstructing various translators’ attempts to adapt celan’s texts and experience of the holocaust. these are all poems from a 1971 poetry collection
all souls
leap-centuries
language mesh and night
homecoming

Nora Iuga
Nora Iuga was born in 1931 in Bucharest, Romania. Iuga is the author of 19 poetry collections and 7 books of prose, and is regarded by many poets as a significant influence on Romanian literature. She has also translated more than 30 books by German authors. From 1971 to 1978, censors in her home country forbade her from publishing poetry or fiction. After that, she resumed writing to great acclaim. Iuga has won five awards from the Writers' Association in Romania. In 2015, she received the Knight Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2017, Iuga won the National Order of Merit in the rank of commander from the Romanian government.

No man has defended you
Linda Maria Baros
The men who meet you always lose weight.
No man has defended you and those who have secretly tried,
you halved them at the waist with a sword.
No man has defended you and those who have tried
to hunt the lawless herons of your breasts
with their tongue have forgotten that every
expired phallus believes the breasts of women
emit a sporadic light.
No man has defended you and those
who sped like relentless free-runners
from one hip to the other, you sent them back.
After the inconveniences the limits the remedies,
you sent them back to the burnt-out forge which
they had already passed through. No man
has defended you, has understood from where came
your soft step spreading so much sadness
onto the thick napes of trackers’ necks. No man
has defended you and those who have tried,
while putting on the uniform under their skin,
have demanded you to prepare a place for them
within your naïve body.
And your body would have to wear them just like a tender
apple unwittingly wears its worms.
No man has defended you and those who have tried
were suddenly hiding out in the swimmers’ locker room.
They split into enchanting curls
while repeatedly trying to levitate.
No man has defended you and those who have tried,
under the light of your whip,
of their paralyzed words, were stepping on themselves,
like an elephant on its trunk,
and collapsing into bed. Alone, you raised your brow
and looked towards the dusk,
towards the veiny sky.
No man has defended you. As if
some of them were young boys
still loitering in the urinals.
And the others, old sea wolves who wait for
the winds the fogs the sirens
to light St. Elmo’s fire, like before,
at the top of the masts. No man has defended you
and to those who have looked at you, in their unconsciousness, through
the haze of the ejaculatory calling,
you told them in a thunderous voice that no man
has defended you.
That they had all lain down in the black bed of sense,
blinded and infibulated like in front of
the excised girls from Africa.
And no man has defended you and those who tried
begged you at night and wept at length
onto the ogive of your pelvis. Onto its pink texture,
of chrysoberyl. And you told them
that at this time, in the English park
behind the asylum, the gardener’s daughter was digging
the chest of your lover with her breasts.
You told them that no man had defended you.
And since then, no man has defended you and none have ever even
tried. Because you are hiding your eunuch
under your skin, the pressurized vaginal cube,
and the men who meet you always lose weight.

Part 1: The Man in the Dracula cape
Tumblr media
In the midst of the night's darkness, a figure emerged. It was like discovering a little lost pixie that had misplaced its glow deep within the forest at night. Then, along came a man dressed in a Dracula cape, carrying a lantern. He caught sight of her, picked her up, and illuminated the area around them. He invited her into his world and shared stories about himself that remained hidden from others. She was captivated. With him, everything became illuminated, peaceful, and strangely joyful. She felt an uncanny sense of belonging. It was as if her wandering through the dark forest had been destined to lead her to him.
A warmth settled in, accompanied by an overwhelming feeling of contentment. It was as if he held a deep understanding of how to cherish her – she felt genuinely understood, seen, and valued.
They started crafting plans for their future together. The man in the Dracula cape infused her life with hope. After enduring an endless cycle of mere survival, he provided her with a true reason to live fully, embrace life's journey, and look forward to what lay ahead. It was akin to rediscovering a future that extended beyond the present moment, allowing her to envision additional decades of life. Her inner spark reignited.
However, much like a lantern, light can't shine indefinitely without being refueled or having its batteries changed. Something was needed to sustain their radiance amid the darkness, so they could face the future as a united front. They needed to bridge the distance between them, offer reassurance, and solidify their loyalty, faithfulness, and commitment. Over time, the brilliance emanating from the man with the Dracula cape began to dim. The pixie did her utmost to fully reclaim her inner radiance, hoping it would assist him in maintaining his light too. Yet, despite her efforts, an elusive force prevented their light from being completely restored. The days of radiant togetherness they once cherished gradually faded – not into complete darkness, but into a subdued dimness. The formerly gray sky brought about a chill, fostering a sense of detachment between the pixie and the man with the Dracula cape. The transformation remained puzzling to them both.
The pixie contemplated whether she held responsibility for this gradual dimming. Maybe her inability to help him with his lantern prompted him to seek someone capable of rekindling his light. He grew distant and aloof, slowly letting go of the promises and dreams they had woven together. Impatience took hold, and his trust in the pixie's ability to reignite the glow wavered. This pattern persisted, unyielding, until… the pixie ultimately reached a decision – she chose to depart. The conviction that she was no longer indispensable had solidified. Staying longer might only breed resentment toward him for not reciprocating the energy she invested. She refrained from placing blame, recognizing that there existed other pixies radiating even brighter light, capable of aiding him in illuminating his path and realizing their shared aspirations. Alternatively, perhaps he had revised his ambitions, and his detachment was rooted in her no longer fitting into that plan.
Now, the pixie stands at a crossroads, uncertain about where or how to begin anew. The plans and preparations of the past several months have been rendered obsolete. Despite her uncertainty, she remains resolute in her belief that her choice was the correct one. The man may gradually reignite her sparkle, but over time, the dwindling attention takes its toll. The man with the Dracula cape still holds a special place in the pixie's heart – imperfect yet wholeheartedly doing his best. The universe, it seems, may be steering them toward something grander, hinting that parting ways might indeed be the wiser course. Perhaps separation will prevent the complete depletion of their remaining light, sparing them both from being lost in the darkness.

Hey @lindonwald I wanted to add a little something to your ot3 Idea and I've come up with this👀 :
*
Bulgaria and Greece are roommates (omg they were roommates :o), trying to survive college life and one day Greece found kitty Romania on the streets, unknown to him that he's a.... (human, vampire, shape-shifting fantasy thing, idk). He takes the kitten home despite the landlord having a no pet policy to their apartment.
It took some convincing and some belly rubs from the kitten for the Bulgarian to agree to keep the kitten, secretly, at least till they menage a new apartment. Only 3 months has passed and the cat is all grown and healthy, now living in a better home with his owners.
Bul decided to take a trip to Romania since they've been doing a lot better financially to afford a little trip for a week. Which even now still surprises him, because just 3 months ago it felt like him and Greece were stuck in time, too many assignments to finish, too little free time, not finding manageable jobs and having to tolerate an irritable landlord who had a poorly kept apartment to offer, the only one they could afford at the time.
It may sound ridiculous but it felt like ever since they got that cat their luck has been turned around, gotta thank Greece for his obsession with cats if that was the case, cause the bulgarian sure was happy with what they accomplished so far. Just as he was looking for places to visit he saw a funny add from the romanian site, "Did you know that cats are able to ward off bad spirits and unfortunate?"
"Is that another one of those romanian folk sayings?" He wondered and it sounded quite funny at first. But as he keept reading "if a cat suddenly brings happiness to your life there is a chance that it came with a mission. To protect you, as there's gonna be something in your future that could threaten your life, something out of your control, so tell your prayers in case tomorrow may be your last day. Be sure to keep your cat by your side at all costs if you wish that not to be. Meanwhile you can visit our website to find out who can be your future husband and mo-"
He just closed the add by that point, the bulgarian wasn't the one to believe in superstitions such as these, but the coincidence of it... the fact that he was just thinking about it, and what the add said gave him a shiver down his spine. He glanced at the cat who he thought was taking a nap on the couch only to find him staring back to his eyes pretty focused, as if he was listening to what his owner just read.
"You're being creepy, stop staring" the bulgarian ordered, the cat decided to go to the kitchen then with his tail between his legs. Not a good sign. A sigh can be heard as the man lays his back down on the couch. "And I was in such a good mood today" he said to himself before closing the laptop.
*
Well, this was a little brainstorm 👀
