Summary: One scene is all it took to multiply the feelings Florence has for you.

Flo’s POV:

My job is great! I love it! I have worked on so many great movies and shows and worked with some amazing cast and crew but this new film is special, I’m co-stared with my best friend, Y/n. The moment we knew we were both casted for this film we laughed at the idea of playing a couple. We’re best friends, so it was definitely going to be a blast filming with her.

** Nora (Y/n’s character) sits typing on laptop. Notices Ruby indecisive on the menu.

N: You should try the chef’s special

-Ruby turns to Nora and smiles softly-

R: I’m sorry?

N: You’ve been standing there for 10 minutes Uhmming and arrrin on what to order

-Nora looks up from laptop-

R: I’ll give it a shot -chuckles- your accent, what is it?

N: -looks Ruby up and down, smirks- do you always ask strangers such questions?

R: -shakes head slightly- just those who are pretty

N: -smiles then gestures ruby a seat- would you like to take a seat?

R: -bites bottom lip lightly, shaking her head- nope, but thanks. -smiles and continues to order-

“Cut! That was perfect, thank you!” the director calls as you smile to Florence. “Okay that was slightly harder than I thought” Y/n spoke trying to keep the Romanian accent that her character has. “You did great!” I tell her with a smile.

“We need you guys back after lunch for a few more scenes, one of these scenes is the first kiss between the characters so make sure you guys are ready for that” the director smiled at us as Y/n and I walked over to the refreshments table.

“Nervous about that?” Y/n asked me as we grabbed a bottle of water each, “What? To kiss you? No, I think your nervous though” I smirked to her. “Oh please, you’re not the first big shot actor I’ve had to kiss” she joked back. Truth was, I was nervous, very! I’ve liked Y/n for a while now but I’m not sure how she feels so I have kept my feelings to myself.

The director called us over for our next few scenes which we took within a few takes, you could say we work well together. “Alright, I need hair and make-up in here before we do this first kiss!” the director told us as we sat down and waited for the lovely women to come in and give us a touch up.

“3….2…..1 ACTION!” the Director called.

** Nora and Ruby walking back to Ruby’s apartment

R: I have one question

N: -hums in response-

R: Why did you ask me on this date tonight? We only met a few days ago.

N: Because I make you nervous and I like that

R: you don’t make me nervous -blushes-

N: yeah?

R: yeah

N: Can I kiss you then? -both stop at street crossing, turning to face one another-

R: -nervously nods-

I felt my heart face as Y/n took the small steps closer to me, she gently caress’s my left cheek looking at my lips as I looked at hers. For a moment it felt like the world stopped when I felt her lips press against mine. My eyes closed instantly then I gently placed my left hand over her right hand that stayed caressing my face. The kiss was short but sweet, soft and I hated pulling away.

“Cut!” the director called as we pulled away. “Don’t go anywhere just yet, I want to watch this over” the director added.

“Well that went better than I thought it would” Y/n smirked.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I raised my eyebrows

“Nothing, I just kinda thought you’d be lower on my list” she joked

“You have a list?!”

“Yeah… I get to kiss all these great actors, why not?” she laughed, I shook my head playfully.

“Where am I on this list?”

“A solid 4”

“4?! Come on!” I playfully slapped her right arm.

“Perfect girls! We don’t need you back until tomorrow, thank you!” the director cut in.

As the months went on, we had more kissing scenes we had to do. Every night I stayed awake thinking about how soft her lips are, how gently she is and I know it’s just her acting but I can’t help melt into her touch every single time we had to act as a couple.

“Flo, you ready?” Y/n spoke as she broke me from my thoughts, “yeah, let’s do this” I smiled.

“Okay, last scene, hopefully our last shot. 3….2….1 ACTION!

** Ruby goes to Nora’s apartment, in destress.

N: Ruby, what are you doing here? I told you not to contact me…

R: I can’t stop think about you. I don’t want this to end. Don’t go.

N: but I can’t stay

R: then let me come with you!

N: I would never ask you to leave your life here for mine

R: your not asking me, I’m telling you I want this

N: I can’t… Ruby I am sorry. You have a good life here, you don’t follow me across the world

This was it. This is the moment were the characters share a big kiss and everything ends well. My character has to take the lead this time. I stepped closer and pulled Y/n closer to me with power, I cupped her face gently and kissed her lips. I felt her arms wrap around my waist and pull me even closer, Deeping our kiss. When I felt Y/n start to pull away I took it upon myself and pulled her close again, never breaking the kiss. The director called cut and we pulled away, I didn’t notice how out of character I was until I looked up at Y/n.

“Flo?” she spoke softly. I felt tears creeping down my face before I wiped them away quickly. “I’- I’m…sor…I’m sorry….i-“ I ran off in a hurry.

“Florence!” Y/n called as I left the set, running to my dressing room. Closing the door, taking a moment to calm myself, replaying the moment in my head as I felt my tears fall freely.

“Hey..Flo?” I heard Y/n’s voice enter my dressing room. “I’m fine, I’m sorry I just need a moment” I replied, not facing her.

“Florence. Look at me, please”

I turned to her, avoiding the eye contact. “Hey” she spoke softly and she came closer to me. “What’s going on?” she asked.

“I’m sorry, I got ahead of myself, and I’ve probably ruined that scene now”

“Ruined? I think that’s exactly what they wanted”

Y/n gently cupped my face, lifting it to look at her. “I didn’t know you felt that way” she said, looking at me in the eyes. “I’m really sorry if I have ruined our friendship…” I replied.

“No honey, you didn’t” she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into her hold.

“I didn’t?”

“No, Flo, you could never ruin what we have” she held me tighter. “How about we go get some lunch and talk about this?”

I nodded, “please” I whispered.

In celebration of the new guy audio here’s some honey and guy specific headcannons(tank is mentioned abunch though)

Srry for formatting issues, I’m writing this on mobile

Honey grew up in a shit home with tank as their older sibling and only care taker, their mother was incredibly sickly and wasn’t given proper medical care until honey, tank, and their dying mother ran away from Washington to daliha after somehow getting Gabe’s number and leaving a mysterious ass message to look out for a 14y/o(tank) and 9y/o with their half dead mom on sled in the middle of winter

Honey and tank grew up in a cult like environment with a small ‘settlement’ of people in the middle of bum fuck nowhere Washington, with honey and tank living the farthest in the woods. To far for them to talk to anyone other than each other and their parents

Honeys father was neglectful and possessive of their mother, so he would often hurt honey and tank(tank mostly) for taking their mothers attention away from their father

After they moved to daliha, instead of spending the holidays with the pack, they spent it in the hospital with their mama until she finally was able to leave when honey was 16 and tank was 19, but anyways this is how honey first met guy

Guys family (including himself)was and still is incredibly accident prone and got himself a trip the to the hospital cause his dad fell of the roof trying to put up Christmas lights, guy was bored in the waiting room while honey was two chairs away from him waiting for tank to fill out hospitals papers(idk wtf I’m talkin about) and guy decided there and then that they were the love of his life….. I’m kidding, they’re like 15 kinda

Guy struck a conversation with a reluctant honey but they end up hitting it off really well. Though all good things come to an end and honey had to go visit mama and thought that was the last time they would see that cute(tanker teases them endlessly for this one) guy….

That is until when school is back in session and they find out they have like 3 classes with him

Guy doesn’t find out why honey was at the hospital until years later and their pretty deep in their relationship that honey tells him

On less angsty note honey is a very large wolf shifter(slot like tank, it runs in the family apparently) with an affinity to healing magic

When guy is told/finds out about the whole magic thing he is elated at the idea that honey can get even cuddlier and give him magic boo boo kisses(they vehemently deny the notion)

When guy met the pack David,Milo,asher, and tank gave him the some shovel talk put in their own ways. Guy was scared shitless but honey ended up defending their lovable idiot

At said pack meeting guy and angel have a spider man meme moment and david and angel shared the same “oh god there’s two of them now”. Lovingly though

Guy know how to cook two things and two things exclusively, and that’s pizza (obviously) and box Mac n cheese but honey is the chef in the relationship.

Honey is mixed Romanian and spanish and use to spend a lot time in kitchen with mama and tank so honey knows how to cook

Honey works out a lot as an outlet for all the trauma and anger issues so their pretty beefy and guy fuckin loves it

Guy is almost always the little spoon but whenever honey is having a bad day or feels like it they’ll let him be the big spoon

Honey is secretly super cuddly but only with the people they trust

Guy is scrawny af

Guy can’t take much seriously but the first time honey had a bad day while they were just roommates, it was the first time guy got seriously with honey, he was so gentle though.

Oh, tiny note for the headcanons: She still has her eyes for this one. Also, we're in the modern AU, but I don't mind rewording it to fit the in-game world if you wanna :)

Fav food:

Hmm... I headcanon that even thought she doesn't have a sweet tooth, she loves honey. So, favourite food... I think homemade bread with honey. Sometimes, when she knows she'll be out of the house for the whole day, she makes a couple slices and takes them with her for the day. She likes how the honey seeps in after a while and makes every bite feel even more sweet.

Breakfast in bed:

She's generally a pretty early riser, so you gonna have to be up at like 4am to manage to catch her in bed with breakfast. But you do!

She's kinda caught off guard and takes her a second to realise what's going on. Then she just kinda stares and doesn't say anything, just looking at you with silent overflowing affection. She asks if its for her and before you open your mouth to answer she drags you down and gives you a long kiss. "When did you make it?" "Did it take long?" "Wait, did you get enough sleep?" "How long have you been up?" <- Some of the questions you get after she releases you and starts eating. She eats with a big smile on her face, the kind you feel she reserves only for you. In the end, not a single speck of bread escapes her.

After the third time you do something like that, she picks up on it, and pretends she's asleep even when she hears you in the kitchen during early mornings.

Fav soup:

Her favourite soups tend to be sour. I'm specifically thinking something like Romanian sour borș but I think she also likes thicker soups, as long as they have some nice sourness in them.

Random kitchen headcanons:

Malenia can't cook for the life of her

Anything that requires any sort of heating, she will manage to fumble somehow

Still, she's an amazing help in the kitchen, as she can chop literally anything, at any exact size you ask her and faster than a Michelin Starred Chef

She likes watching you cook so she'll often lean in a corner out of the way, sometimes silently, sometimes striking quiet conversation

I kinda went all over the place with these, I hope you like them!

Your answers are just *chefs kiss*... soo I was wondering for a while now... Alu physiology 🤓 how does that man's body work? He drinks blood, does he need to use the toilet? Can he vomit if he feels sick? Can he sneeze? Can he cum? Is he fertile? We know he can cry a bloody substance so would all his substances be bloody? Does he expel gas? I cant grasp the way his body works at all.. he bleeds but does his body even pump blood? Is he hot or cold? If his blood is just standing still inside his body, how would he get an erection? He is meant to be unalive so what does he smell like? Also, i thought the other day, people who thirst for him.. are we necrophilliacs since he is meant to be deaded 😂? Help 😭😭😭😭

This is a fun topic! This is gonna get looonnnngggg because I've been nerding out over this subject for a long time.

So, like, I'm not a biologist? So most of these thoughts are pretty simplistic and fundamental. I'd love to hear someone more knowledgeable lend their take on these theories. "Blood is the life! Blood is the life!" We see Alucard in varying states of appearance as far as liveliness goes. He looks pretty tired sometimes, with heavy lines under his eyes and pallid skin. But sometimes he looks healthier, livelier, and I think that's in direct correlation to how much blood he has drank recently, and of what quality.

I'm better with machines than biology. Think of a body like a vehicle engine. You've got the motor, the moving parts, and the fluids (among uhhhh a bunch of other stuff?). Doesn't matter how new the engine, how sturdy the gaskets, the brand of brakes, because if you don't keep your fluids up, your car will stop carring.

So, my theory is that his body "performs" more like a living body at its prime when he's well-fed. Do you remember that part where he binged and took a nap in his chair in Ultimate? Walter observed that he was building up energy and strength for the coming battle. Now, "at its prime" doesn't mean "more human". Excreting waste, in my opinion, is a sign of inefficiency in an organism's metabolism and of course we know the health of our gut contributes to the frequency and circumstances of how we excrete waste. Illness, food allergy, presence or absence of bacteria, etc. So, I don't think he vomits, defecates, or urinates. Alucard metabolizes blood, which is, in Stoker and subsequent lore, the vehicle for life essence. He metabolizes blood entirely, and it fuels all the prime performance abilities of an organism and the extent of their abilities. In Romanian lore, male strigoi, Alucard's particular subspecies of vampire, can impregnate human women (female strigoi, in classic Olde Misogyny, have a wild libido and will exhaust a male human until his death). So, he can feed, fuck, and fight. The perfect creature. As for his blood flow, I think his heart DOES pump blood through his body, but very slowly. And by slowly, I mean like a couple times a night, give or take, depending on how physically active he is and how much blood he has been drinking. Bradycardia is not inherently a bad thing; generally speaking, as long as you feel good, a slow heart rate means your heart is pumping more efficiently. If his blood was stagnant in his body, we would see a lot of discoloration in his skin, and the blood would be pooling at whatever the lowest point of the body is as we see in deceased human bodies. And because his blood flows, it's reasonable to expect him to be a reasonable temperature. I think he probably runs pretty cool compared to a human. He probably feels like those people who are always cool to the touch when you touch their hand or cheek, but I mean realistically if you leave a steak on the counter all day it will reach room temperature. And since his body is animated and functioning on a baser level, I don't think he would smell ripe or anything. I personally think his coffin is lined with old Romanian earth beneath upholstery, so he probably smells like old, turned soil and the materials and environment he's surrounded in. I headcanon old soil, leather, and gun smoke. Now what I can't rationalize with this specific line of thinking is that in Stoker, Dracula so famously gives Harker the line "I never drink...wine." But at some point, in Alucard's canon, and I'm looking at Arthur here, he must have been granted the ability to drink spirits. He is chronically drinking wine in all formats of Hellsing. One day I'll go through all three versions, and I'll count the number of scenes in which he's drinking.

I DO know that cattle, oxen, pig, and lamb blood was used as a fining agent in wine, from ancient times up until the US started trying to bully Germany and France into stopping. If I recall correctly, Germany and France shrugged it off, but I think in the 90's around the time BSE (mad cow disease) was a huge scare, the US and the UK outlawed bovine blood as a fining agent. SO, until somebody out there is bold enough to research the subject, I headcanon that Arthur started a reserve for Alucard in which human blood is used as a fining agent in his own reserve of wine. Why not? Wine can thin blood, which means he probably has to drink a fair amount of blood before drinking wine or he'd probably get pretty fuckered up. So, in contrast to many folks' headcanons, he's probably a pretty light drinker unless he's been gorging on blood. And the only other thing I used to think he'd have trouble metabolizing was yeast but honestly it would just contribute to respiration, so he might breathe more than just when he needs to pass air through his vocal cords. Which might imply that when he's drinking, and his respiration is amped up that he might get the most rush out of smoking like we see him in WW2 and in a few chapter covers. Which supports my theory that he can party like a motherfucker if he wants to and supports my own headcanon that he likes to indulge in vices.

Aaaaand for your final question, no, I don't think we're necrophiliacs because Alucard is an animated, sentient creature capable of consent.

As it is, Lolita is more of a steady stream of rising discomfort and horror. You're watching child rape through the rose tinted glasses of a man who thinks it's an act of love. With Leech in the Rain, there are horrible things happening and it rides on the coattails of Bleach on the Brain, which was about abuse, but the story is more a carousel of ridiculousness.

I'm watching Dracula Untold (2014). It's visually impressive and beautifully shot but idk about it. They're trying to be vamp LOTR but it's just like every other big budget fantasy film they made around the Twilight era:

"MY KINGDOM HANGS IN THE BALANCE. I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO DEFEAT MY ENEMIES AND SAVE MY PRETTY BLONDE WIFE AND BUILD A PROSPEROUS FUTURE FOR MY CHILDREN. WE ALL INEXPLICABLY SPEAK WITH POSH ENGLISH ACCENTS DESPITE THE FACT THAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE 14th CENTURY ROMANIANS!"

Luke Evans is gorgeous though. And the scene with the bat tornado? *chef's kiss*

The battle scenes were the best part of the movie tbh. I still absolutely detest the trope of killing the wife/love interest to motivate the protagonist, only to then fall into the other tired ass vampire story cliche of "Oh wow this modern woman bears a striking resemblance to my beloved dead wife so she will be my replacement wife. The end."

Cool concept but overwrought with cliches, "we're going to war" is boring, stop killing the only woman with a decent speaking role to further the plot, Underworld already did vampire soldiers, awesome bat tornado, American audiences are eventually going to have to deal with the fact that other accents/languages exist, Luke Evans can get it.

5. Will burn water? Would impress Gordon Ramsay?

Listen.... Alcina has never cooked a day in her life. If she even tried without help it's a guaranteed disaster. Mia, on the other hand, is actually really good at cooking and can make some fairly decent meals. Nothing to brag about, really, but considering Zoe only knows like 1 actual recipe and Alcina never setting foot in a kitchen, she's the best out of all of them.

She just won't eat much of her own cooking.

7. Has practiced kissing their mirror?

Mia. For sure. Like, as a teenager probably prepping for her first kiss or whatever. She's also definitely does the "kissing your own hand" thing. She lives with the embarrassment of getting walked in on forever and has vowed to take it to her grave.

10. Gets way into holidays? How do they celebrate?

It kind of depends on the holiday. Zoe get way into Halloween (and often drags Mia into the excitement with her), and she'll constantly ask about decorating for it. Alcina doesn't see much of a point, considering Halloween in the Village is more of a "Sit at home and hope Demons don't get you" thing, but she can't say no to her wife. They have a little mini party that usually ends with Donna coming over with old horror movies and everyone falling asleep in the main hall.

Christmas is the other big one, because Mia loves it. Granted, Romanian Christmas traditions and American Christmas traditions are different, they've sort of compromised to kind of hold up both sides. Mia more just likes the decorations and being around everyone. They have a gathering with all the Lords (and Miranda, if she chooses to show up) and exchange little gifts and have food. It's basically just a family gathering, but for the most part everyone has a good time.

26. Is the most dangerous?

To themselves? Mia.

To others? Alcina.

In general? Zoe.

28. Wears the most comfortable clothes? Who wears the least comfortable for the sake of fashion?

Oh, Zoe and Mia share some of the comfiest clothes. Their wardrobe is mostly oversized shirts and pajamas. Alcina suffers for the sake of fashion.

OCs

I stand by the idea that Melony cannot cook to save her life. Baking? Yes. Cooking? She will catch the kitchen on fire. The only OC worse in the kitchen than her is probably Angela, but they can at least make boxed stuff without burning it. They're equally bad.

Max, on the other had? Amazing chef. Baking isn't his strong suit but he can make some tasty meals for people he likes if he wanted.

7. Has practiced kissing their mirror?

Lake. Granted they were probably stoned at the time so maybe that's a bit more of an excuse?

10. Gets way into holidays? How do they celebrate?

I think Max is the only OC I have that really likes holidays. Again, like Mia, he really likes Christmas and having everyone together and such. He always knows what to get people, too.

All the other OCs aren't big into holidays.

26. Is the most dangerous?

I don't know if any of them are particularly dangerous. I think it'd have to be a tie between Max and Angela, since they're both pretty capable of being dangerous.

Maybe Angela a little more so.

28. Wears the most comfortable clothes? Who wears the least comfortable for the sake of fashion?

Oh, Melony and Lake by FAR wear the most comfortable stuff. Melony has her soft onesies and sweaters and Lake's main attire is baggy shirt and PJ pants.

Max probably wears the least comfortable clothes. To be fair, he wears the dress shirt from his maid uniform and then just throws on pants. It's definitely not the MOST comfortable thing, but he doesn't really have a lot of options.

So I mentioned last weekend I watched

Bram Stoker’s Dracula

1992, Francis Ford Coppola.

I haven’t seen this movie in ages and ages and ages, and I’m so glad all the Dracula Daily buzz encouraged me to give it a rewatch, because I had so much fun watching this. This film won Oscars, and was directly responsible for establishing a new tone and style for cinematic vampires.

This is just the most fun, extravagant Dracula adaptation ever. I hear some people give it some shit sometimes because it doesn’t stick 100% faithfully to the events of the book - who cares that it doesn’t? There isn’t a single good adaptation that I’m aware of that does. I might get shit for this but I like the stuff it adds in, and beyond that, isn’t it pretty darned close?

My goodness the cast, they got just the most amazing people and stuck them in here, and everyone is clearly having so much fun (with one notable exception which I will get into later!) I’m so happy I have this movie where I get to see Richard E Grant mainline morphine, Tom Waits eating bugs, Anthony Hopkins playing the world’s most famous vampire hunter… *chef’s kiss*

The crazy costumes! What a beautiful movie! The fashion designer they got to make Dracula’s strange and audacious white hair! The Gustav Klimt robe! Lucy’s terrifying funerary dress! Everything Mina wears! The drapery! The vampire tiddies! Everything is so sumptuous and sensual! And I don’t mean sensual in terms of sexy times, though there’s certainly a lot of that, but I mean also like the shot that lingers on Mina’s hand trailing through the fur of the escaped wolf. How lovely.

I think the last time I watched this movie I was in my very early twenties. Watching it now, I was absolutely delighted by the camera work, particularly all the superimposed shots. Every single ghostly overlay of eyes or every clever crossfade just made me smile so damned much. Even little things like the scene with Dracula’s shadow not quite matching. Apparently these shots were all achieved actually in-camera, with the only post-production effect added in being the blue flame. Hhhhhow did they even manage that? There are SO MANY superimposed shots??? In this age where post production is cheap and easy, I think it’s really important to understand and have respect for the astonishing practical effects of earlier films.

There’s just a couple things I don’t like, and I say this only in the way that you can nitpick the little things you would improve in a movie you otherwise love.

I think the opening scene showing how Dracula got himself cursed to begin with is not necessarily a bad addition to the story… I just personally think it would be better somewhere else in the movie, and let the movie begin with us following Johnathan into this series of unfortunate events.

Speaking of Johnathan, as much as I think Keanu Reeves is probably the nicest human being in the world, I have to admit I’ve never been a huge fan of his acting, and in this movie especially I think he’s a bit miscast. He himself has said he wasn’t happy with his performance and that he had made himself exhausted by committing to too many movies at the time.

And I said everyone looks like they’re having so much fun… and they are… except for Winona Ryder. Apparently she and Gary Oldman did not get along, at all. Now obviously they’re both professionals, they’re both actors, I’m not making the creepy suggestion that romantic costars have to be legitimately attracted to each other or anything like that… it does put a little damper on my enjoyment of their scenes though knowing that they both probably couldn’t wait for the shot to end.

Fun facts

The VHS edition, which you might remember if you’re old like me, had no subtitles for the Romanian-language scenes, for some bizarre reason. Maybe it’s just because this is how I first got used to the movie, but I find I actually prefer it without the subtitles!

The 2007 special edition includes deleted scenes and making-of documentaries, which will be amazing to see - guess who just ordered a copy.

So folks, this is a fun movie for sure, and if you’re following along with Dracula Daily this is a perfect reason to give it a watch now. It’s the most exciting and beautiful Dracula adaption there is.

Queer Movies/Books/TV Shows for Pride Month!

Happy Pride everyone!! For your viewing/reading pleasure I have made a (non-exhaustive) list of queer media that I have enjoyed!

Movies/Documentaries

Pride (2014): An old tried and true favorite, which meets at the intersection of queer and workers’ rights. A group of queer activists support the 1985 miners’ strike in Wales (complete with a sing-through of Bread and Roses + Power in a Union)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire: On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman (or, two young lesbians fall in love by the sea, and you cry)

God’s Own Country: Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path (Seriously this movie is GREAT and doesn’t get enough love, watch it! It’s rough but ends happily)

The Half of It: When smart but cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, she doesn't expect to become his friend - or fall for his crush (as in she falls for his crush who is another girl. This movie was so good, and really friendship focused!)

Saving Face: A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations (this is an oldie and a goodie, with a happy ending!)

Moonlight: A young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood (featuring gay men of color!)

Carol: An aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in 1950s New York (everyone’s seen this I think, but I couldn’t not have it here)

Milk: The story of Harvey Milk and his struggles as an American gay activist who fought for gay rights and became California's first openly gay elected official (the speech at the end of this made me cry. Warning, of course, for death, if you don’t know about Harvey Milk)

Pride (Hulu Documentary): A six-part documentary series chronicling the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America (they go by decade from the 50s-2000s, and there is a lot of great trans inclusion in this)

Paris is Burning (Documentary): A 1990s documentary about the African American and Latinx ballroom scene. Available on Youtube!

A New York Christmas Wedding: As her Christmas Eve wedding draws near, Jennifer is visited by an angel and shown what could have been if she hadn't denied her true feelings for her childhood best friend (this movie is SO CUTE. It’s really only nominally a Christmas movie and easily watched anytime. Features an interracial sapphic couple!)

TV Shows

Love, Victor: Victor is a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation (this is a spin-off of Love, Simon, and it’s very sweet and well done! Featuring a young gay man of color)

Sex Education: A teenage boy with a sex therapist mother teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school (this has multiple queer characters, including a featured young Black gay man and also in season 2 there is a side ace character!)

Black Sails: I mean, do I even need to put a summary here? If you follow me you know that Black Sails is full of queer pirates, just queers everywhere.

Gentleman Jack: A dramatization of the life of LGBTQ+ trailblazer, voracious learner and cryptic diarist Anne Lister, who returns to Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1832, determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home Shibden Hall (Period drama lesbians!!! A title sequence that will make you gay just by watching!)

Tales of the City (2019): A middle-aged Mary Ann returns to San Francisco and reunites with the eccentric friends she left behind. "Tales of the City" focuses primarily on the people who live in a boardinghouse turned apartment complex owned by Anna Madrigal at 28 Barbary Lane, all of whom quickly become part of what Maupin coined a "logical family". It's no longer a secret that Mrs. Madrigal is transgender. Instead, she is haunted by something from her past that has long been too painful to share (this is based on a book series and it’s got lots of great inter-generational queer relationships!)

The Haunting of Bly Manor: After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (sweet, tender, wonderful lesbians. A bittersweet ending but this show is so so wonderful)

Sense8: A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order (queers just EVERYWHERE in this show, of all kinds)

Books

Loveless by Alice Oseman: Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day. This wise, warm and witty story of identity and self-acceptance sees Alice Oseman on towering form as Georgia and her friends discover that true love isn’t limited to romance (don’t be turned off by this title, it’s tongue-in-cheek. This is a book about an aroace college girl discovering herself and centers the importance and power of platonic relationships! I have it on my TBR and have heard great things)

Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters: Reese almost had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York City, a job she didn't hate. She had scraped together what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. The only thing missing was a child. But then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. Now Reese is caught in a self-destructive pattern: avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.Ames isn't happy either. He thought detransitioning to live as a man would make life easier, but that decision cost him his relationship with Reese—and losing her meant losing his only family. Even though their romance is over, he longs to find a way back to her. When Ames's boss and lover, Katrina, reveals that she's pregnant with his baby—and that she's not sure whether she wants to keep it—Ames wonders if this is the chance he's been waiting for. This book was GREAT, and written by a trans women with a queer-and especially trans--audience in mind)

A Tip for the Hangman by Allison Epstein: A gay Christopher Marlowe, at Cambridge and trying to become England’s best new playwright, finds himself wrapped up in royal espionage schemes while also falling in love (this book is by a Twitter friend of mine, and it is a wonderful historical thriller with a gay man at the center).

Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer: a very very queer remix of The Picture of Dorian Gray (which was already quite queer), featuring amazing female characters, a gay Basil, and a much happier ending than the original.

Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: The gay prince of England and the bisexual, biracial first son of the president fall in love (think an AU of 2016 where a woman becomes president). Featuring a fantastic discovery of bisexuality, ruminations on grief, and just a truly astonishing book. One of my favorites!

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston: For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures. But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train (This is Casey McQuiston’s brand new novel featuring time-travel, queer women, and I absolutely cannot WAIT to read it)

The Heiress by Molly Greely: Set in the Pride and Prejudice universe, this takes on Anne de Bourg (Lady Catherine’s daughter), and makes her queer!

Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters: Nan King, an oyster girl, is captivated by the music hall phenomenon Kitty Butler, a male impersonator extraordinaire treading the boards in Canterbury. Through a friend at the box office, Nan manages to visit all her shows and finally meet her heroine. Soon after, she becomes Kitty's dresser and the two head for the bright lights of Leicester Square where they begin a glittering career as music-hall stars in an all-singing and dancing double act. At the same time, behind closed doors, they admit their attraction to each other and their affair begins (Sarah Waters is the queen of historical lesbians. All of her books are good, and they’re all gay! The Paying Guests is another great one)

(On a side note re: queer books, there are MANY, these are just ones I’ve read more recently. Also there are a lot of indie/self-published writers doing great work writing queer books, so definitely support your local indie authors!)

Pairing: Vampire Bucky Barnes x Reader

Summary: When Y/N’s art project lands her in Romania she is met with very peculiar circumstances. Such as a weird old man speaking mythical nonsense, murders of both people and animals, an oncoming threat to her life, as well as her mysterious yet very hot next door neighbor with a weird obsession with beetroot juice.

You came to the Romanian capital for your college class. Your major was in Art History and you found that throughout your class you enjoyed different types of Folk Art and you enjoyed Romanian Folk Art the most. So you decided to sign a slip to study abroad to a country of your choosing and so you chose Romania. You were tasked to study the art and make your own as well as write an essay on the culture you encountered on your trip. So here you are, in Bucharest sitting at a small park bench, food in hand which had a beautiful view of ‘The Arch of Triumph’ You had your small notepad that you use to take notes on what you see for your essay but as of right now you are doodling with the infamous arch way as the sole subject. As you finished your food you begin to pack up and put your pencil and notebook away then stand up. Your next stop was the “Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum” It is about a seven minute walk from where you are now so you begin your journey.

With your backpack over your shoulder you begin your seven minute trek when something caught your ear. It was coming from ahead of you as you make your way to the entrance of the museum. “Pleacă de aici (Go away!)” A man cried. He seemed out of his mind! He was yelling and touching patrons in an effort to diverge them away from somewhere. “trebuie să pleci acum (You must leave now!)” You weren’t sure of what to do so you just stood there staring. That was your first mistake. He immediately made eye contact with you and charged in your direction. He was spitting nonsense and you couldn’t understand what he was saying. “Părăsi! Părăsi! (Leave! Leave!)” You understand that word so as you go through your imaginary index cards you have for the Romanian language you ask “De ce? (Why?)” The man seemed confused at what you were asking. “Mort! (Dead!)” You look at him even more confused and he sighs angrily “Vampire! Here Vampire!” You look shocked. You knew this man was crazy but not this crazy! He begins to grab on to your arm in a firm grip when he is suddenly ripped off of you. “Destul! (Enough!)” You see a pair of what looked like officers pulling the man away from you. “Atenție! ( Be careful!)” The man cries. “nu ieși noaptea! (Don’t go out at night!)” The police officers are taking him away in the direction of the main road. “Morții merg pe timp de noapte (The dead walk at night!) That was the last words you heard until he was out of ear shot. A wave of strangeness incased your entire body. You felt uncomfortable so you decided to leave. ‘I’ll come here some other time...’ You think to yourself as you find yourself walking back toward the main road and away from the museum and the woods that surrounded it.

Your walk home was unnerving. You wouldn’t say you were a paranoid person or even a believer in the paranormal but the man did strike a fear in you. You use to love vampires when you were a kid. You dressed up as one for three years straight for Halloween. You went through that weird Twilight phase of putting dots of sharpie on your neck and drinking red Kool-Aid in middle school. To say you weren’t a vampire fan would be a lie but that man seemed to know more. I mean you are in Romania so it is to be expected? You sigh as you get closer and closer to your apartment complex. Your backpack seems to be getting heavier with each step you took up the stairs. You enter an outdoor hallway that is connected to the stairs you just went up and look back to the world behind you. As the chill of the Autumn air sets in and you shiver. You turn to your door and take out your keys that were provided for you by the school.

As you jiggle the lock you hear a door open next to you. You look to your left and see a man step out. He is wearing a brownish leather jacket and a red shirt underneath. He has a cap on top of his head as his umber brown hair surrounds his face. His side profile was a chefs kiss. He had a well defined jawline accompanied with just the right amount of facial hair from what you could see his face stood stern and unmoving until they landed on you. He had equally stern baby blue eyes as he stared into you (E/C) ones. His eyes seem to have a storm behind them. He had an intimidating look to him and the air around him was intense. You felt like you couldn’t breath. His eyes were like a black hole and they were sucking you in but you weren’t sure if you wanted to escape. That brief moment felt like a life time as you are swallowed by those broken eyes. He just looks at you and walks away.

When you got inside you decided to do a little research. Your roommate has yet to return so you decided to use their computer. You go to the local online news paper and begin to look at some articles. You go to the settings in the corner of the screen and hit the translate button. As the site reloads you begin to read. Multiple headlines flash across the screen as you scroll until a specific one catches your eye. “Local Farmer Finds Cattle Slaughtered” You scroll down to see pictures of said cattle. They are strangely skinny and their eyes are sunken in, there is a chunk of meat missing on a few parts of its body -mainly around the neck area- Scrolling down more you see the museum you were suppose to go to. There was a picture of the man you encountered holding onto somebody. Looking closely you can see that it is you! You didn’t realize that you were being photographed. Luckily it was of the back of your head so no one saw your face, but it would be a cool story to tell to your friend later. As you continue to stare at the man you decide to do even more digging. You decide to look up vampires and the influence they have in this culture. What you found was interesting but you weren’t sure if it was accurate. Then again how can something mythical be accurate? You decided to write down the name of a library that is close to your apartment complex and head there tomorrow. You decide to exit and shut off the computer putting it back on the coffee table where it belongs. You get up and decide to see what you have in the fridge. Turns out there was a whole lot of nothing. ‘I really need to go to the market tomorrow...’ You think to yourself as you reach for your phone looking at different take out places. You choose the type of food you wish to eat and made sure to write down the pronunciation of each items on the menu so you can be sure to say it correctly to the best of your abilities. By the time you are done ordering your roommate walks in and gives you a small wave. You wave back to them before continuing to wait for your food. You look out the sliding door of your balcony to see the sky is pitch black. You feel a shiver go up your spine and make your way to the sliding door and shutting the blinds. You take a few steps back and calm your breathing. You don’t know why you feel so worked up over nothing but you guess that your paranoia is getting the best of you. You walk to your roommates room and knock on the door. You hear a quiet ‘come in’ so you open the door. “Hey I just wanted to let you know that I got us some food and it will be here soon.” They smile and nod and you exit the room shutting it behind you. You don’t know how long it has been but you started dozing off on the couch when you heard a knock on the door. You quickly get your wallet and approach the door opening it. You expected your food to be here. What you didn’t expect is the person holding your food in their hands. “Oh it’s you!” You exclaim making the man you saw earlier today flinch. You blush red in embarrassment. “Sorry Uh-” You begin to try and speak some Romanian but the man cuts you off. “Your food got delivered to my place...” You look even more shocked. “Oh right. I’m so sorry!” You pop your head around the corner of the door way looking for the delivery person. “Where did they go?” You ask looking up at him. “They left...” He murmurs. “They wouldn’t have left without payment... Did you pay for my food?” You ask suddenly feeling guilty. He nods. “Why don’t you come i-” “No it’s fine.” He says holding out the bag of food to you. You look between him and the food. As you look closely you can see his hand. His hands look tough, fingernails are well kept with veins protruding and leading up his arm, but the thing that caught your eye the most was how his fingertips and some of his hand was stained red. “Is that your blood!? Are you okay? Did you hurt you hand?” You ask taking the food in which he takes his hand and wipes it on his jeans even though there is no liquid on it. What ever it was you hoped it wasn’t blood because it must have been there for a while to have stained it. “No I didn’t hurt my hand. I spilled some beet root juice.” He says quietly. “Oh... Okay...” You say slightly weirded out. “Well good night.” He says before walking away. You are stood there for a moment before you call out “Good night! How do I-” You hear the sound of his apartment door slamming shut. You were debating on going over there to say something but your thoughts were interrupted by your roommate calling out to you. “Hey what are you doing with the door wide open? Is the food here?” She asks and you sigh “Yeah I’m coming in.” You say as you step back into the apartment and shut the door. A/N: I used Google Translate for the Romanian So I’m sorry if it is off. Oooh, do you have any non-English music recs? I listen to J-rock and K-pop, but I'm trying to diversify. From widely spoken languages like Chinese, Russian, German, Spanish, and French to smaller languages like Romanian, Greek, or Navajo. Give me all you've got, new or old, fun or sad idc. I'd love that *chef's finger kiss* LGBT shit, but it isn't necessary ❤️

To preface, I do not understand how to classify most music genres, so I won't be able to be super specific besides like "dance music" or "sad music" or whatever.

Also, I rarely listen to full albums/discographies, so if I just recommend one song, you'd probably benefit from checking their other stuff!

Also, also, also because I don't really do deep dives a lot of my recs aren't very obscure lmao I'm gonna try to not rec too much J/Kpop on that basis because you've porbably heard it! If you want J/Kpop tell me what you already listen to and I can base it off that. I'll only do a bit more obscure groups not like... Twice.

Dance Music:

Ntozabantu by Lebo Mathosa. Pure dance anthem from South Africa.

赤伶 (DJ名龙 Remix) by 等什么君. Normally I can get English titles for songs but noope. Still, this is more vocal based and remixed to be dancier but I really enjoy it. Got it off a skateboarding tiktok?? 昭华情 is also by them and is just REALLY pretty but isn't dancy.. I'm assuming it's mandarin, sorry if I got that wrong!

Iskaba by Wande Coal is great Nigerian based house music. Primarily in English but not fully! I listen to this song once a week, it's so smooth.

More basic pop and not really dance:

Tourner la Page by Zaho. Kinda sad and piano based but still radio friendly. French!

Soul Lady by Yukika. Not basic pop, but it's city pop. I wouldn't quite call it dance music?? It's city pop. Her latest song is pretty and more vocal city kpop.

Thank U Sooooo Much" by Yubin, an ex member of Wonder Girls. Retro kpop! Has great synth. Maybe belongs under dance music? Again, I do not understand genres.

Yellow by Koh Kamiyama. IDK what genre to call this? Just like... Japanese... alt pop? I don't know genres. There's fake guitar happening. I wouldn't call it JRock tho

4:00 AM by Taeko Onuki. Smooth as hell and from 1978, so hopefully you haven't heard it before.

Found & Lost by Survive said the Prophet. Jrock... from an anime I hate. I also like their songs Red and Mukanjyo

Okay I'm fully skipping Kpop/Jrock/Jpop until I get more specifics becaues I have too much. Like do you know Perfume? Do you know WJSN? Should I rec songs from popular anime? Less popular anime? Like shit from anime I don't even like... but the songs are bops.

Wait Nami no Yukusaki by The Ricecookers is really good okay no more Jrock unless you give me specifics on what you alreayd listen to! OH and Kakusei by Superfly is a must.

Actually I need more specifics in your taste like does Jrock mean you're open to music like Rammstein which is German metal (?), if so, Engel is my fave by them.

I also dont listen to the radio so like... is Mudo Turbo a popular song and it's embarrassing to rec it because everyone already knows it? Lexie Liu got popular after being featured in KDA but Idk if hte average kpop fan has heard of her since she does Cpop? I like her song Shadow but is it helpful to rec it?
