I didn’t realize how much I wrote in 2020, and it’s hard to believe I started making art again this year too. I’ve bounced fandoms so much this year (but I think we all know which one isn’t letting me go,,,) so I’ve chosen my top three works, one work per fandom. In no particular order...
1. How the Universe Comes Together (G, Overwatch, Roadma & background Roadrat, 3k) This seriously started as a cracky joke and then it turned into a fic that, like most crack I’ve done, I took WAY too seriously and got WAY too invested in (and then wrote two self-indulgent multiship sequels to...)
It had truly been years since Roadhog had heard head or tail of the man. It had been years since the Omnic Crisis. Years since the apocalypse. Years since he got caught up with Junkrat and started the spree across the Wasteland. After, he had lived in a strange mix of outlaw filth and crime lord decadence with the young man he wasn’t sure how to consider, but he knew he considered him close. So when, while assisting a small band of Overwatch soldiers, Roadhog could have sworn he had seen the aged face of the man he once considered a dear long-distance friend before the Crisis, it was understandable that he had experienced a bit of restlessness after it was all finished.
2. It Started with a Lucky Meowth (G, Pokemon, AbsoluteControlShipping, 3.8k) This and its three sequel-ish stories was written for AbsoluteControlShipping Week 2020. I’m still not sure if planning the fic or writing the fic was more enjoyable, but regardless it was an experiment in story-telling through blips in time that helped boost my confidence in writing (and finishing) coherent series/longer stories.
There are three things that Cyrus keeps on his desk. None of them are of any significance to the many passersby who cross paths with his desk on a daily basis, but to Cyrus, they mean the world. Sentimentality was always a foreign concept to the man, and he had been quite certain it would be one of the mysterious unknowns of human emotion until the end of his time. Note the past tense. Something changed when he found himself noticed by the Kanto region mafia. How he managed that while keeping to his ambitious research in Sinnoh was beyond him, and yet, he managed to catch the eye of a rather infamous man. Well, in all actuality, it was likely the region-wide television broadcasts that did him in. Not that it was something he was against, mind you, but it changed his world nonetheless.
3. Reflections in the Water (G*, Yu-Gi-Oh, ArrestShipping, 9.5k**) This is still in progress but I did start it in 2020 so I’m counting it. This (and another fic) began as a little writing exercise I’d do during power outages, and now this sucker has a fully-drafted prequel, a plot, and my wholehearted love and affection. It started as an exercise, and turned into a “What If The Millennium Items Didn’t Exist?” type of canon-divergent AU (<- that will make more sense once the prequel is out) surrounding Ryou and his new totally-not-at-all-haunted house. I’m very excited about it >:)

Buying a house in the middle of nowhere, with a property history that seemed a little too clean, was a bad idea. Ryou knew this when he purchased the house. The price could not be ignored though. The house was nothing to write home about on the outside, and the inside left much to be desired in terms of decorating, but the house was several hundred thousand dollars cheaper than anything else in the area. The pipes and wiring had been cleared by the city. The asking price was set by the previous owners, who had long moved out by the time Ryou found the place. The house needed some new furniture, some better drapes, and maybe a better choice in flooring besides carpet, but the house begged to be bought. That should have been a red flag. A very large, waving, brightly-colored red flag. Ryou bought the house, and moved in the following Saturday.
If someone told me I’d write 37 fics in a year AND like them all enough to post them, I’d call bullshit. But here we are. I’m tagging @kevlarshepherd @gutsbutt @isthemedia and @uglifish. Happy 2021!!

Taliban Itches to Return to Power
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), March 19, 2021.--President Joe Biden, 78, showed his age, telling ABC’s George Stephanopoulos March 16  that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a “soulless killer.”  No one in the Democrat-friendly U.S. media has questioned Biden’s vile epithet calling one of the world’s most influential leaders a “soulless killer,” burning the bridge with Putin needed to manage hot spots around the globe.  Biden’s statement brought condemnation from 67-year-old  Turkish President Recp Tayyip Erdogan, calling Biden’s remarks “unacceptable.”  In case Biden hasn’t noticed, Putin’s been on the world stage for a long time, influencing many different parts of the globe from the Mideast to Asia, from Africa to South America and parts in between.  Putin has clout with North Korea and Iran, two thorns in the U.S. side, promising to create problems if not now, then at some point in the not too distant future.   
          When it comes to Afghanistan, Putin has considerable sway with the Taliban, an arch foe of the United States, the former Islamic state that coddled Sept. 11 mastermind, al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden.  It was the one-eyed Taliban Leader Mullhah Mohammed Omar who refused to surrender Bin Laden after Sept. 11, prompting former President George W. Bush to launch Operation Enduring Freedom Oct. 7, 2001, toppling the Taliban government Nov. 12, 2001.  Since then, the U.S. has fought a bloody guerrilla war with the Taliban, once backed by Bin Laden when he worked for the CIA.  Bin Laden’s mujahideen fighters received arms-and-cash from the CIA to fight Soviet occupation of Afghanistan Dec. 24, 1979 to Feb. 15, 1989, when the Soviets finally pulled the plug.  Bin Laden helped install Omar as the spiritual leader of the Taliban, controlling Afghanistan’s lucrative opium trade.      
       Things ended badly for the Soviets in Afghanistan, watching the Berlin Wall fall Nov. 9, 1989, signaling the eventual Dec. 25, 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.  Putin grew up in the KGB [now FSB] during those years, understanding well how thing work in Afghanistan, Middle East and Asian Subcontinent.  U.S. officials have held many meetings with the Taliban to end bloodshed in Afghanistan but only contingent on U.S. troops leaving the country.  Negotiating an end to hostilities with the Taliban, State Department officials under former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo agreed to a May 1, 2021 troop withdrawal.  Biden hasn’t figured out yet whether to meet former President Donald Trump’s commitment to the Taliban, to end U.S. occupation.  Some national security officials are worried, without U.S. troops, about the Taliban toppling the U.S.-backed government of Asraf Ghani.      
       No one doubts the Taliban’s determination to return to power after ousted by Operation Enduring Freedom Nov. 12, 2001.  Meeting in Moscow, Taliban negotiator Suhail Shaheen said that a continuation of U.S. troops after May 1 would breach the deal.  “They [the U.S.] should go,” said Shaheen.  “After that it will be a kind of violation of the agreement they signed in February 2020, the Taliban have not attacked U.S. or NATO forces, even as unclaimed bombings and targeted killings have spiked in recent months,” warning of consequences should the U.S. stay put.  Shaheen reveals for all to see that the Taliban fully intends to take over Afghan’s government, restoring strict Sharia Islamic law.  When the Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, practicing a brutal form of Sharia law, imposing public amputations and beheadings for often inconsequential crimes.    
         For any orderly transition after U.S. troops withdraw, the world would count on Putn’s influence with the Taliban to meet obligations to allow its duly elected government to rule the country.  Shaheen reveals the Taliban have other plans, perhaps planning to topple Ghani’s government and restore Taliban sovereignty.  “We hope that this will not happen, that they withdraw and we focus on the settlement, peace settlement of the Afghan issue, in order to bring about a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire at the end of reaching a political roadma for Afghanistan,” Shaheen said.  Shaheen hints strongly that the Taliban, not Ghani’s U.S.-backed government, would be the legitimate government of Afghanistan when U.S. troops no longer occupy the territory.  Taliban leaders plan to avenge Ghani’s U.S.-backed secular-traitor government, reinstating strick Islamic law back to Afghanistan.       
      With the situation in Afghanistan soon in flux, the U.S. needs Putin to continue to maintain order in Afghanistan.  Biden’s done everything possible to wreck U.S.-Russian relations, making it more difficult for Putin to serve as a buffer between the Ghani government and the Taliban.  Calling Putin as “soulless killer” has real consequences for Biden in deciding now whether the U.S. can honor the May 1 commitment to leave Afghanistan.  State Department officials fear that if U.S. troops leave, the Taliban will re-impose Sharia law, wrecking whatever gains have been made by women in the last 20 years.  “I started a Jihad [holy war] to remove foreign forces from my country and establish and Islamic government and Jihad will continue until we reach that goal through a political agreement,” said Khairrullah Kharkhwa, a member of the negotiating team meeting in Moscow.

Experienced workers required to fill 3500 jobs in brand-new Defence plan

IPSWICH will be at the centre of a $10m financial investment aimed at producing approximately 3500 tasks in the defence market.
The State Government intends to develop a 10,000 person-strong, $7 billion defence industries sector by 2028.
State Advancement and Production Minister Cameron Dick today released the Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan which underpins $15 million in industry advancement programs.
Mr Penis stated $10 million had been assigned to money defence centers in Ipswich and Townsville.
The centers would give advice and expertise, focusing on regional supply chain logistics along with maintenance.
Member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard stated Ipswich was a perfect area for a defence markets center.
"The hub will function as a catalyst for skilled jobs for Ipswich people in innovative manufacturing, and will offer chances for small to medium organisations in Ipswich to take advantage of this growing sector," Ms Howard stated,
"Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden, whose electorate includes the Amberley RAAF Base, said the roadmap set out a course to make it possible for regional firms to take advantage of emerging company chances.
"The defence markets sector is growing quickly and establishing a nationwide and global track record for quality. This roadmap will build on the momentum and set the direction for further growth," he said.
Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller said her electorate was front and centre in the development of the defence markets sector with the place of the Armed force Lorry Centre of Quality, or MILVEHCOE, to build the Fighter fight reconnaissance cars at Redbank Plains
"The construction of this $170 million center will support 300 jobs a year over two years and is an exceptional example of the economic advantages to be acquired from the growth of the defence markets sector," she stated.
Mr Cock stated supporting the defence industries sector with a series of efforts could facilitate 3500 new tasks across the state.
"The Federal government's Defence White Paper and the pace of technological modification provides an unique chance for defence suppliers," he stated.
"I want to see Queensland companies enjoy the benefits.
"Our state's defence markets employ more than 6500 individuals and produced an approximated $6.3 billion in revenue in 2015-16.
