I year ago today I was driving to Toronto for my roux-en-y Gastric Bypass procedure. I’ve lost 155lbs since then, and gained a whole new appreciation for my life. I don’t believe this is the right option for everyone. But if you’re considering it and have any questions, please reach out to me. 💕

Hey guys! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here! Let me introduce myself again!
I’m Kayla! 25, happily married, and now have a 2 year old son ❤️
I had RNY in July of 2017 and have lost and kept off 120 pounds!!!
Still here kicking ass and taking names 💪
I’ve found a love for weightlifting and recently running as well.
Here for accountability and to cheer everyone else on along the way! 🥳

I needed a space to share my health updates, that I would later be able to reflect on. Perhaps, Tumblr isn't the best space but it's a platform that I'm comfortable with.
Anyway, I'm Ashely. Freshly 30 year old, and chronically ill. I have 3 autoimmune conditions; fibromyalgia, lupus, and Sjogrens syndrome. I recently was diagnosed with mild PCOS. I have a family history of ... everything under the sun, it feels like. Amongst those diagnoses is obesity.
My birth mother is easily 400 pounds. So, currently being under 300 feels like a success in its own right.
Two months ago, I had a consultation with a gastroenterologist who asked me if I had ever considered gastric bypass. As I had no co-morbidities other than severe GERD, the thought had never crossed my mind. Which is when the physician told me that Roux-en-Y is current fix for gastroesophageal reflux disease. I immediately thought, "sign me up!". Mentally, it feels like two birds - one stone. I'm able to heal my esophagus and lose weight that I've spent my entire life battling.
I was referred to a bariatric surgeon, who I love. I've already had my psychological evaluation, initial surgical consult, nutritionist appointment, bloodwork for vitamin deficiencies, gynecological screwn, and mandatory support group meeting accomplished.
I have two additional nutritionist appointments, and then my cardiac clearance. My insurance told me that I only needed 3 months of nutritional counselling, my surgical office is telling me the normal amount is 6. So, they're locked in a battle currently.
I'm currently on the 800 - 1000 calorie per day, preoperative diet. My highest weight on my journey was 309 pounds, I am currently 285.6. The goal is to have me down to 273 pounds, but no smaller than 255 (or I will be disqualified as a surgical candidate).
I intend to use this space to talk about my journey, connect with the community, and post healthy thoughts and recipes along the way. Which reminds me that I want to start taking photos of myself to actually measure the difference.
Welcome to my metamorphosis.

Sometimes I just need a reminder. My brain still feels 350! 😱. I don’t eat much these days STILL! And I’m good with that. All you gotta do is pay attention to how full you are and STOP, take your vitamins, and work out. It’s a lot of hard work but also simpler than I had ever imagined.
