I genuinely cannot describe how deeply DEVASTATED I am about riz being the only one who can take stress tokens for the others. Yes fig is a protector and will fight endlessly for her friends and I love that about her but there is something about the way riz loves his friends. It’s a more subtle kind of love, but just as relentless and passionate and he will take any burden for the people he cares about and bear the weight of it on his shoulders so they don’t have to deal with it without any hesitation. What are your thoughts on fabian and riz's friendship dynamic? I love them sm :')

oh man they’re so fun

Fabian does consider Riz to be his best friend but isn’t as good at articulating that as all his other friends are so he doesn’t really say it. But the rare occasions he does mean a lot to Riz.

As much as the Hangman openly hates when Riz rides on him, I think Fabian goes out of his way to drive past Riz’s office on the way to school and gives himself enough time to go in and drag Riz out if he sees the light is still on. Because he knows Riz hates missing school despite how close he comes to it almost daily.

Since everything that happened on Leviathan, Riz will most often attack an enemy that Fabian is in melee with. He’s still dealing with the guilt of not being there to help Fabian when he needed help the most so he unconsciously (or consciously, I’m not sure) attempts to do that every chance he gets.

They do still use the chat that’s just them and Gorgug that they made for the first time in Boys’ Night. Mostly it’s Fabian saying “Riz could you please explain to me what the fuck Adaine is talking about when you get a chance. I stopped listening for a second and now I’m baffled.” But they do have an insane meme “competition” going where they will send memes (usually edited to be about their specific situations) back and forth and whichever ones Gorgug interacts with are winners. Gorgug is unaware of this rule.

in light of recent canon academic conversations, riz adaine gorgug study sessions have never been more real to me. gorgug helps riz + adaine get out of their own heads when they’re overworking themselves, riz + adaine help gorgug with alternative studying methods because he learns best through visuals + experience. fabian’s there occasionally when he has a particularly difficult assignment/test but he makes them all swear never to speak of it in order to protect his “image.” kristen has shown up exactly twice: once for advice on a group project that was two months overdue & once to just lay on the floor and relax for an hour before leaving. fig didn’t know the study sessions were happening until sophomore year & now keeps getting monthly bans because every time she shows up she ends up accidentally distracting riz + adaine. also, sometimes after/in the middle of really long study sessions riz adaine & gorgug go to basrar’s together to unwind but fabian kristen & fig Are Not Invited (they do still text to ask if anyone wants something brought back from basrar’s. they’re not heartless, after all).

You know, Brennan Lee Mulligan is playing Tula in a way that makes me understand why I loved Sklonda so much. Like we don't get much time with Sklonda, but we DEFINITELY are feeling it with Tula, and what we do see of Sklonda is just a tired overworked mom, right?

Tula is like an exploration of that dynamic Sklonda truly has, but exacerbated. She lost her husband, she has TWO kids, and she's doing it alone, just trying so hard to keep her kids safe. To keep them from what killed their dad. Don't turn into a detective please. Read is good, stay away from the blue.

Don't stray too far, I will encourage you to be you because I love you but don't be like your dad. But also you're like your dad and I love you so much and I can't stop that I guess.

How does he capture the love a mother has while also dealing with the aftermath of losing the love of your life and trying to keep your kids from the same fate.

And honestly you can't tell me Brennan didn't capture the single mom who works two jobs trope while also the you're too much like him and are going to get hurt and the your father did things that upset me but I loved him so much all in one character. And he did it twice, so well that I am obsessed with all of his characters that are like this.

Aroace Riz real but also Fabian is SO clearly in love with him and Riz has no idea

Thankyou Brennen Lee Mulligan and Brian Murphy for pinning down one of the great isolating fears of being ace/aro. And turning that into an amazing horror plot line.

I dont get to see aro/ace charecters in media often. And mostly they arnt the heros, or if they are the heros they are either childlike to a fault, so old as to seam androgynous, or a perfect bastion who is above all this silly romance.

I don't get to see people dealing with my fears that my friends and family will end up prioritizing thier romantic relationships above thier friendship with me.

I've seen love work. My parents and grandparents all seamed to have married thier best friends. But I never will. And I've tried to.date.and I hated it. And I've tried to describe what I think might be attractive and just stuck my foot in my mouth.

And its sad and makes me feel petty worrying about it. But it's also true.

So to have Riz Gukgak in the forest of the nightmare king face the fear of being alone because he is ace/aro and to.face the consequences of his own lies and insecurities.
