Do you think it’s possible that Gina is jealous of Val and ej being around each other a lot that she tries to make ej jealous by being around ricky?

Do you think Gina is going to use ricky to make ej jealous? I would hope not bc it would make them look a bit “toxic” and I would hope they’d rather communicate

Both these anons are asking the same things so I'm putting these asks t/g. If the writers wanted to add more typical teen drama elements to the show, yeah I guess Gina using Ricky to make EJ jealous is a possibility, but I'm leaning more towards no. If Gina were to use Ricky to make EJ jealous b/c she's jealous of his rela w/ Val, I don't think I would like what that would say about her character. How petty would she have to be to do that to him (if that’s the direction the show takes her)? We’ve seen Gina bear witness to EJ being jealous and insecure about Ricky in his relationship before. Observe:

It’s very brief but you can clearly tell Gina notices what’s going on in front of her. She knows as early as 1.02 that EJ felt suspicious and jealous of Nini’s relationship w/ Ricky. I’m not so sure the writers of the show plan to make EJ go thru this again. He’s worked so hard on himself and come too far to regress in this way now. Plus, if EJ’s able to joke about the chocolates situation with Gina in 2.11, and genuinely make her smile b/c of it, I don’t see the point in making him jealous thru Ricky again. I’d like to think Gina wouldn’t do that to EJ and hurt him in this way. Like I’ve said before, communication is not an issue for Portwell from what we’ve seen. If Gina feels any type of way by seeing how close EJ and Val are, I trust she will just talk to either him or their friends (esp Carlos or Ashlyn) about it.

HSMTMTS Season 1-3

Ok, honestly I enjoyed this more than I should have…I was sceptical in the beginning and I mean very sceptical but I wanted to know what all the fuss was about so I watched it and well… it became my whole personality in the past few weeks.

"Finally Free” is my new favourite song, Gina is my new role model and "Gotcha Head in the Game” why new motto!

But let's start with the beginning because it took me a little to get here…soooo if you have read any of my past posts you know I absolutely love Joshua and his music. I am totally on his side in all that Olivia drama (even though I also love Olivia’s music) and yes I'm fully aware that the offscreen drama has nothing to do with the show but I can’t help but draw some connections I'm sorry...

Alright so season 1 wasn’t my favourite, yes I enjoyed it and I cried at the end but seasons 2 and 3 were absolutely amazing, they were soooo much better! I totally shipped Ricky and Nini I was all there for them even though, Ricky is kind of annoying sometimes and he freaks me out with his indecision and his moping around all the time but on some level, I do get him. Nini on the other hand…well I didn’t quite like her she just annoyed me with her going away and coming back and all that and there was also something about her that kept me from fully liking/connecting with her. Now please don’t come for me but I don’t buy that Olivia wasn’t around that much in season 3 because of the tour, I think that she just didn’t wanted to be on the show anymore because she got where she wanted to be and she doesn’t need it anymore. Please don’t get mad at me but I am kind of happy she left the show …again I totally shipped her with Ricky they made sense together all the history and all and I cried when they broke up in the treehouse (by the way that episode is one of my favourites) the breakup felt soooo real I'm almost sure there wasn’t that much acting in that scene. Oh and I also cried when she came to the opening night in season 3 and talked to Kourtney and the cards OMG and of course the lottery ticket for Ricky…it made me so emotional and yes I would have liked for her to stay but on the other hand, I think its better that way. I just feel sorry for her friends, especially Kourtney!

Wow I said I was going to start with the beginning but here I am talking all over the place… so if I already did it I might as well keep on going soooo let's move on with my favourite ship of the show, the ship that unfortunately didn’t survive and I'm very very upset about it!!!! EJ and Gina!!!! Those two OMG their relationship in season 2 was everything for me! I didn’t like EJ in season 1 but season 2 EJ was my everything. It's the same with Gina I didn't quite like her in the beginning but now I love her so much she just motivates and inspires me to give my best in everything and ahhh I was soooo happy when they finally got together they matched so well! Yes of course I understand why they broke up and Gina had her point but still I’m so sad that they broke up I really really hope that EJ will at least be in season 4, I need him there, he has to be there he just has to! And yes Gina and Ricky make sense but I'm forever and ever Team Gina and EJ no matter what!

OHHHH and I love Kourtney sooo much, I love her attitude and that she is into fashion and I relate so much with her! I love how they address mental health in this show and Kourtney’s anxiety…. I could relate so much! I love her friendship with Giana and Ashylin there are so great together and I love how they support and help each other up, it’s so beautiful! And Carlos omg I love him too his adorable!

Oh and of course, another favourite of mine is Miss Jenn of course, I love her she is the best! I love how she cheers them up and OMG when she came to camp to help EJ and ohhh her talks with Nini! Why don’t teachers like her exist in real life? OOOHHH and most importantly can she please get together with the robotics teacher what’s his name...Benjamin right, I like them together and they make way more sense than she and Ricky’s dad!

Now let’s talk about my favourite songs I loveeeee "Finally Free” as I said in the beginning but I also adore "1-2-3” and „Different Way to Dance” oh and of course "What do you know about love"!

By the way can we please talk about the guest stars OMG like Chad and Rayen!!! And Jackson from Hannah Montana and Mitchel from Modern Family!!! I love the troughbacks in this show, they brought up so many things from my Disney childhood and I loved the Camp Rock vibes in season 3! It's so nice that they bring up and honour the shows that we 2000s kids grew up with!

Omg the reality show episode in season 3 was also one of my favourites it was so funny (ohh another absolutely hilarious moment was Ricky performing "Bet on it”!), and episode 8 from season 2 is also one of my absolute favourites, as I mentioned before because it made me so emotional! As for my favourite season, I can’t quite decide between season 2 and season 3 they were both equally amazing!

I feel empty now that I am done watching all episodes, I need more! I can’t wait for season 4! And God, please let EJ be there!!! I know it’s a silly hope because it’s probably not going to happen but ahhh I wand EJ and Gina to get back together! They are my favouriteee!!! But the only thing there is left to say is: I trust the process! So what comes will come but let's hope it comes soon!

I've always loved how when Ricky sees that Gina is back in 1x09 it directly followed the status quo chorus that might as well be s2 Ricky's theme song "stick to the stuff you know, it is better by far to keep things as they are , don't mess with the flow"

You know, while I was doing the analysis for Season 1 (x) and the song analysis for Ricky (x) I did take notice on this but I didn't want to make the post even longer so I skip it but I dont think the placement on this is random. We know they are very meticulous with Rina. The fact 108 is the episode where in Gina's absents he is able to connect with Nini over memories together as kids and go back to how things were and then, the first time he sees Gina again after is when she is singing "Stick To The Status Quo". It feels like a remainder of what he’s been trying to do with his life. And it also reminded me how one of the only featured Gina and Ricky posters that they promoted for Season 1 had them with the catchphrase "don't stick to the status quo".

Thats not random at all. In fact, it tells their arc.

Because all Ricky has been trying to do is stick to the status quo, not allowing change to enter his life because he wants to mantain things the way things are. He wants to keep his status quo (due to his fears) and Gina represented at that moment the opposite of that. Nini was Ricky’s status quo, what he knew. Gina pushes Ricky to move forward and walk outside of it. The reason he connected with theater in the first place was because of Gina, not Nini. He thought he was just a skate rat until he was not that anymore.

Idk but to me Ricky and nini always seemed a little forced. I really appreciate the subtlety of hsmtmts! Like Jets feelings for Kourtney are noticeable when you rewatch and same with Maddox and Ash. Hsmtmts has always thrives on a mix between subtlety and blatantly showing the audience, like the duet with Ej and Gina as Hans and Anna pretty blatantly showed they weren’t gonna work out. It made it hard to find nini and Ricky interesting when everything about them was always shoved in there somehow, like every confessional and every scene they would just describe how they were feeling and what was happening in this very unnatural way that people do not do.

But Ricky and Gina showed off Tims mix of subtlety and showing instead of telling the audience. We don’t hear about Ricky’s feelings THAT much but we can SEE his totally hopeless pining (side note Joshua basset put his whole SOUL into that unrequited longing) and not to be mean (even though it’s totally fair game at this point) it just makes the portwell and rini shippers look not very clever at this point. At the very least they should be able to admit that rina was gonna happen at some point but pretending to not see it AT ALL, makes them look either blind or just petty.

i agree they always seemed forced! i enjoy rina madlyn and jetney for the same reasons you listed. even with redlyn they showed why their relationship worked instead of JUST telling us. for portwell and rini the only time they showed us something about their relationship instead of telling us is showing they didn’t work.

i think a large part of the problem is all of their development was off screen and so was their first relationship besides the s1 flashback. there’s definitely a way to show exes to lover’s relationship and/or a relationship that has history pre show and make it interesting but for rini that just didn’t happen. they just simply tell us they had this loving relationship and that they know each other so well but they don’t show it all. if anything it seemed like they didn’t know each other well. and that’s funny considering they shoehorned in them being childhood best friends. which is still funny to me because they don’t feel like childhood best friends at all. it’s very similar to dawson and joey where they’re telling us they’re best friends and are each others person when the only evidence of them on screen (tho they attempted with dawson and joey but failed in my opinion) is the characters saying it. we don’t actually get to see their bond ☠️☠️. it’s one of my biggest problems with the best friends to lovers trope in general despite me loving it - the fact half the time the ships with it don’t actually feel like they’ve known each other for that long or have history.

with rini it’s funny to me because going with the idea they’re childhood friends to me they just feel like that relationship that only got together because everyone expected them to. like i don’t think we even actually know why ricky and nini liked each other besides ricky holding onto her for comfort 😭😭

i actually said before (here x) that i think one of the reasons some people don’t get rina is because it’s not being told to you it’s being SHOWN to you and they called rina forced in s3 bc their relationship became fully text in s3 instead of subtext (even though s1 and esp s2 was obvious enough but i digress). portwell and rini was in your face from the beginning they started to both of them ending but their stans missed the fact they would eventually break up bc the show was SHOWING you instead of telling you the reasons they would eventually not work out (besides in s2b for rini and s3 for portwell where the underlying reasons their relationships would fail started becoming obvious …. in which then their stans said it’s forced ….)

your second paragraph !!!! i said the same thing here. i just don’t understand how they can see them having no closure and the rina relationship just constantly being put on hold instead of being put to rest and think nothing was ever going to happen or get addressed. sure i started to think rina was never happening but not because it made sense that their story is over. i just thought the writers were bad at writing 😭😭 but like i said in the post they refused to see them as romantic in s1 and then said it was one sided in s2 and that the flashback was closure and ricky never liked her and then one sided on ricky’s end in s3 and now say s3 and their feelings don’t make sense …. they want to talk about bad writing so much but leaving rina open and never closing their book would have been the bad writing.

Rewatching Episode 1.01 of HSMTMTS

Me and @organic-guacamole are gonna be rewatching HSMTMTS. I'm a big fan of this series so it's gonna be fun rewatching this series knowing what happens in the future.

me recognizing that big red did NOT grow that mustache he was anticipating for :(

"nothing about bad news or needing to have a big talk" oh don't worry ricky you'll have that big talk when yall break up in season 2 :D

ricky being able to deal with a "hey" text is unbelievable. whenever i get a "hey" text i start questioning my worth and what i did wrong to not deserve a "hi!" or something like that-

Nini's hair is so different. it's a lot shorter, it's a light brown color too

"And that's why we work" proceeds to break up with her 3 minutes later... this is why we ship ricky x therapy forever instead of rini

Nini's room is literally my dream room. it's so pretty- the room lights, the pink curtains, the hanging chair.... i'm jealous

olivia's riff on "guess i'm saying i don't not looooove you" is seriously beautiful

principal guiterriez or however you spell it, why would you tell the whole school that miss jenn's announcement wouldn't cost too much money...?

Oh back when Nini's biggest dream was getting the lead... oh how times change

mr. mazzara being able to pay for ad-free spotify but not me makes me question my life

i love how mr. mazzara says "we don't call colleagues sweetie" but i'm sure s2 mr. mazzara would LOVE that 😏

EJ actually isn't being completely stupid about going to auditions in costume. It actually does make a difference. It can represent confidence and help the director picture you playing that character. For those who are about to do an audition: maybe don't go FULLY in costume but wear something similar to what the character would wear.

also hate on ej and nini all you want, but we have to talk about how ej gave her courage to say "no, i want to audition for gabriella"

i am kinda mad that miss jenn gets info about the students through carlos. already shows bias.

ej should've gotten troy and i will forever stand by that.

nini using a british accent when she's nervous was never brought up ever again in the series. i wish they did, it was cute

"troy would've arrived on time" i've converted many friends to hsmtmts fans and every time they watch that scene they recognize that carlos is 100% wrong

ej seeing ricky do the phone flashlight thing and doing the same is much more cringey than i remembered

awww big red being a supportive best friend to see ricky's audition (even though he advised against it)

ricky attempting to act is the most relatable thing about this show

in ricky's defense, the greatest showman can be pretty unrealistic

OKAY theatre directors learn from miss jenn and post the cast list immediately (looking at my theatre director who waits three weeks)

I will forever laugh at HSMTMTS cursing once the whole series 🤡

hiii !! this is me inviting you to speak on the folklore love triangle x hsmtmts seasonal triangle !!

Okay this is the shortest answer ever, because I typed a whole thing out and then my laptop died :/

But!

In the season one triangle. Nini is James, Ricky is Betty, and EJ is Augustine. Nini being James feels a lil self explanatory to me. However, I did have trouble landing on which boy was going to be August. Ultimately, it boiled down to James and Betty being the ones who "end up together". But, I thing semi strong cases could be made for EJ being Betty and Ricky being Augustine.

Season two triangle. Ricky is James, Nini is Betty, and Gina is Augustine. This one is a little more nuanced, since both love interests to Ricky have more history than the previous season's triangle. We are reeling in from Richard and Nini going through some shit to get back together. We see that Gina confesses her feelings to Ricky, unfortunately literally right after Rini becomes a thing again. This one is interesting because Gina is Augustine. If not for them having the least amount of developed history, because Gina stepped back halfway through the season because she felt she had to. Nini is Betty, but they don't end up together. Ricky just puts her through some shit and they get back together.

Season three triangle. Gina is James, Ricky is Betty, and Ej is Augustine. Of course, Ej and Gina are together (at least at the start of the season). Ricky is Single and has moved on from Nini, and quickly moved on from Lily. I don't know why I'm explaining this, y'all know the drill. Ricky is Betty(!!!) because of his and Gina's ability to gravitate back toward each other, and the amount of phases and growth their relationship has had to go through. As well as the growth they had to go through as individuals. I am not saying this as a person who ships or doesn't ship the characters. I feel as though EJ is Augustine because it seems as though his relationship with Gina(James) is only a season. I say "season" as a certain period of time, not in the literal context of the show's eight episodes. Gina and EJ hadn't really had that connection until she completely removed Ricky from her life, now that Ricky is back in her life it seems it seems more clear that EJ and Gina aren't the couple the audience may have viewed them as in the end of s2 and beginning of s3.

Does any of that make sense? I sure hope so. If anyone disagrees, that's cool. Would love to hear your thoughts... just kindly ask that you don't rip my head off :)

Why do ppl think Sofia ships rina?

Do you think sofia is a pw or a gicky shipper?

These two anons are asking similar questions, so I figured I'd answer them together! 😅 I don't wanna speak for any of the cast and whether or not they have ship preferences because we have to keep in mind that they don't approach the show or their characters in the same way shippers do. That being said, it seems Sofia knows she will get quite a bit of engagement with the Rina shippers in particular on Twitter b/c they probably showed a lot of love to her post-S1 (and who could blame them😚). I think because of this, Rina shippers are inclined to believe anything she tweets about the show is in favor of their ship b/c she has posted favorably in the past. She also tweeted about supporting Gini (Gina and Nini) as well.🤷🏽‍♀️ In terms of Portwell, we haven't heard Sofia's thoughts post-S2, so I don't know if she ships them or not. We don't really know if she ships Rina either b/c we're not her, you know? Lol😅 I don't believe she's ever explicitly talked about either ships, so I won't assume anything. From what I remember, she has posted about Portwell on her Facebook, avoiding any chance of the shipwars present on Twitter. 😂 Perhaps S3 promo/interviews will give us more insight into what she thinks about the ships? 🤔

BTW, I think it's totally fine to believe whatever you want as long as ur not hurting or attacking any of the cast over it. 🙂
