what's your favorite episode from rnm s3 :P also what's your favorite ice cream flavor. also what's your favorite movie you've seen recently (could be from like, the last year not just super recent)
Ohhhh man it's difficult to choose. Probably Ricklantis Mixup because of how much it feeds and nourishes my theory-obsessed brain? Like look at the ECONOMY on that bad boy, look at the class structures, hnnnngh oh yeah 🥵
But also Whirly Dirly Conspiracy for Ricks little "pity is a weapon" rant? So fucking GOOD. Like, Rick, my man.... you're right but you're telling on yourself sooooo bad rn too lol
Also shout-out to Rickmancing the Stone (very underappreciated ep!) for one of my fave Rick and Morty exchanges:
It makes me giggle so much every time :)
Fave Ice Cream flavour: Chocolate. Or vanilla. Or this one ice cream cone I had once after a bunch of field work in Croatia that was like, one scoop hazelnut, one scoop apple crumble flavour. Unreal how good that was... I miss it :')
Fave movie: Rewatched Jaws a bit ago and it's still my fave ever I think. Fave new watch was Raise The Red Lantern, that was amazing. So pretty and SO fucking bleak. 10/10.

Day in Fandom History: July 30…
Rick takes Morty and Summer to a post-apocalyptic version of Earth, where they are chased by a group of scavengers known as Death Stalkers. Rick notices that the group is carrying a valuable rock of Isotope 322, so he and the kids join them in hopes of stealing it. “Rickmancing the Stone” premiered on this day, 6 Years Ago.

In 'The Rickshank Rickdemption' (yes i was rewatching it tonight), we learn that it is a crime against The Citadel of Ricks to "radicalize a Summer". To radicalize is to make someone adopt radical positions (mainly to political or social issues). This is because if Summer is heavily opposed against Rick, she becomes a threat to Rick and establishes an independent structure effortlessly. This can be seen in 'Rickmancing the Stone' and 'Night Family'
Tumblr media
(Summer always does amazing whenever she has no Rick or rules to follow)
Tumblr media
(Summer can currently dismantle Rick and the family while still going off the Night Family's wishes they told her to execute)
Another reason is that having a Summer who is TOO attached to Rick would mean she would go lengths to save him no matter what. That's how she even got here in the first place - stealing his portal gun and using it, which was another crime
Tumblr media
Also as we now know, Summer fucking loves tearing down organizations. This was her first time going from a total bootlicker to an actual radicalist, so telling Summer "Hey these guys are controlling you actually" would lead to Summer knocking on your door before setting the lawn on fire. The Citadel of Ricks seems to think that telling Summer ANYTHING leads to an uproar which isn't good. That's likely why in GoTron Jerrysis Rickvangelion, all the OTHER Summers are mindlessly on their phone - RICK IS THE ONLY ONE WHO LETS SUMMER EXPLORE HER POTENTIAL BY TELLING HER EVERYTHING HE DOES!
The major reason it would also be illegal to radicalize a Summer would be because she's just a jack-of-all-trades. We've talked a lot about how she keeps the family together on this blog, but TL;DR, you're got another Rick Sanchez in your hands whose intelligence can't be detected by technology and will be more relentless most of the time.

i feel like parts of rickshank rickdemption and solaricks imply that morty was less affected by the decision to abandon his og universe and family than he actually was. him breaking down after getting yelled at by jerry prime was the biggest inkling we got on how much that decision weighted on him, but i think we see just how much switching realities messed him up also in how he never ever wants to leave this new family behind. he says it repeatedly, to rick especially, that he’s not leaving without his family. a few examples off the top of my head are him insisting in get schwifty that rick and him grab their family and then hop universes, him wanting to protect summer in rickmancing the stone despite rick’s argument that he has “infinite sisters,” and his decision to stay with his family at the end of rickchurian mortydate when rick tells him to come with him to a different reality. i think morty tried to cope with the guilt of leaving his first universe just like rick said, “don’t think about it,” but that distraught still lingers, so he channels all those feelings into holding onto his new family as tight as he can.

Rick losing his original family makes me even sadder when I think about the fact that Morty and Summer are basically his kids. He lives with them and takes a much more active role in their lives than most grandparents. He's also pretty much raising Morty (he's doing a terrible job lmao, but he is.) He lost all his children. He lost Jerry, too.
yeahhhhh, 100%.
he’s morty’s primary caregiver at this point, and it kind of feels like the first time in his life morty has ever actually had a primary care giver.
i mentioned this in one of my other posts, but for the longest time after the s5 finale/s6 premier i assumed that rick would pop into the s1 prime dimension on occasion to see if prime had come back, and ran into little morty then. that entire assumption relies on the the inference that morty was pretty heavily neglected and left to his own devices, even at such a young age.
i mean, who in their right mind would leave their baby completely alone in the front hallway while they’re learning to walk?
Tumblr media
we ofc don’t know if that’s how rick really knew a morty baby, but it really says something that that’s what someone would immediately deduce.
morty himself even confronts beth about the neglect in “a rickconvenient mort,” and we have plenty of scenes (like in “raising gazorpazorp”) that are open about the neglectful/horrible parents beth and jerry are. even though jerry is shown to be more affectionate towards the kids, he’s always been too busy orbiting beth to be a decent father. (you could also get into the state of morty’s room compared to the rest of the house, or even summer’s room. it’s full of childlike toys and posters because he’s really just a little boy, but there’s mold and mildewy spots- even though he keeps his room relatively tidy.)
Tumblr media
one scene that really stuck out to me is when rick takes morty to school in “juricksic mort.” it seems like rick has been one of the people making sure that morty gets there for a while now, considering how the whole scene goes down. (which, what a great contrast from his character in s1. he’s gone from making excuses to justify ruining morty’s education to making sure he gets there on time.)
“rick! mom’s working and dad’s still asleep! i’m gonna be late.” “… just get the keys.”
no pushback from rick at all, just casually taking morty to school. i also like the detail that rick is up that early in the morning, like he’s part of the smith family weekly morning rush routine. he’s just relaxed after summer’s off to school and beth’s at work, drinking some beer and watching the news.
Tumblr media
that really seems like rick’s been taking morty to school everyday, or at least often. it’s also a great example of a moment where rick steps up as the “dad” or “patriarch” of the house to fill in for jerry again.
rick doing household chores and shaking his head at the kids in disappointment in “final desmithation” is something that makes me feel like rick is more of a parental figure to the kids than the actual smith parents, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(rick sanchez in his matriarch era lol)
Tumblr media
(i also just love this little scene of him drinking wine with beth while she plays “operation” and the kids sit around. it’s such a sweet little detail that makes me think about what a subtle act of affection it is to drink wine with her because that’s her drink of choice. it’s also reminiscent of rick “making up for lost time” with his little girl, because it’s horse operation. some things never change- like your daughter playing with horse toys while you watch and have a little drink- even if you’re an old man and she has kids of her own now.)
another episode that i think really embodies rick being the only one who goes out of his way to care about/look after the kids is “rickmancing the stone.” sure, he has that whole blurb about how summer is completely replaceable, but he never actually tries to replace them with versions of themselves from other realities. he just kind of tries to buy time and hopes that they’ll eventually want to come back.
i love the scene where he says, “we need to get you guys home so you can properly deal with your parents’ divorce!”
it seems so genuine to me. he’s a dick, but he’s a dick that’s worried about his grandkids.
being a nurturing father figure, especially with children, is something that seems to come naturally to rick. it’s like part of his nature that’s just been waiting to peek out, even though he’s a jaded old asshole now. “a different kind of rick,” exactly.

Ranking all season 3 episode best to worst
This entire season was just *chef's kiss* there were so many good episodes- Now I'm just left scared of season 4 since it has some uh...infamous episode to say the least, I won't elaborate buttt if you watched Rick and Morty season 4, I'm sure you know what I mean. Ugh especially the dragon episode, that episode is gonna haunt my nightmares.
"Rest and Ricklaxation" Not the funniest episode, but there's just so much character development and it reveals so much about Rick that I don't even care! This episode is just mwah! Mwah! Mwah! Amazing!
"The Rickchurican Mortydate" Man that's hard to spell, but again a great episode, it's funny, has character development, and is just a great, well-rounded episode overall, and has a lot of good Rick moments which reminded me why Rick is my favorite character.
"The Ricksank Redemption" What can I say? It has good jokes, it's action-packed, and it's just a really great episode, and a great premiere.
"Morty's Mindblowers" It's probably not as good as I'm saying it is...but look it's my comfort episode ok? It has funny gags, I love the format, and overall I just really, really like it.
"The Ricklantis Mixup" I mean...it's a Citadel episode, of course, it's gonna be good, I also love Evil Morty, my evil lil baby
"The ABCs of Beth" Another great episode! I love Beth and her character growth here and I love Rick's and Beth's dynamics, this is also the first Rick and Beth episode we got
"The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy" Another very good episode, even if it's in the lower half, this is still an amazing season that shows how great this season is overall, I honestly think it only really gets bad in the bottom two, this is definitely my favorite season.
"Vindicators 3: Return of Worldender" Again, great episode, it's really funny and I love jealous Rick with all of my heart, it's probablyyyy the least plot-important, but still a great episode!
"Rickmancing the Stone" Ehhhhh I wasn't feeling this one, it's just kinda...boring...and the fact that Summer got with a grown man makes me uncomfortable and nobody really calls the grown-ass man out on it which is....eugh
"Pickle Rick" One of my most controversial picks! It's just...it keeps repeating the same joke and the rest of the episode is just kinda boring, and again Rick being a pickle can only be funny for so long.

I think Morty imagined Diane like that based off of two things 1. what he knows of the ship AI and that it's voice is modeled after her and 2. What he thinks Rick would love and want in a romantic partner ie basically someone almost exactly like him (that's especially highlighted when he made it so that Diane is a heavy drinker along with Rick and gave her a degree in non-human intelligence)
Yep! I agree. I think it's been intentionally left ambiguous if Morty saw more than we did when he saw the crybaby backstory, but my guess is he only saw what we saw or the Fear Hole would have been able to create a Diane that engaged directly with him in some way at least once, as she would have had a personality that wouldn't just have been there to allow Rick to live the Rickest life possible (happy edition). And she would have been able to challenge Rick in unexpected ways instead of just the very obvious "Where is her daughter, why does Rick never mention she died too", "Maybe Rick never deserved her" type stuff that would very clearly be things Morty has also wondered about, at least in the back of his mind.
I got no disrespect for people who hope we see her one day, but personally I am FULLY back on team "Diane has never existed" tbh - she was introuced as an OVERT criticism of the Disposable Woman storytelling device, and people's only comment on that seems to be "the writers forgot they didn't like that trope" which is WEAK tbh. Plus she is consistently ONLY used as a servant of some kind whenever some form of her shows up. Which, given that the show consistently critiques traditional roles and gendered labour practices (see: Jerrys literal whole deal; Night Family leading into Final DeSmithation; earlier also Rickmancing the Stone; Anatomy Park, and ALL of Raising Gazorpazorp) seems a LITTLE strange, no?
Her existence (and death) would SERVE Rick, because it gives him something to blame for the way he is, and an enemy to defeat in Prime - a fix for problems he is too afraid to deal with. So if I'm being perfectly honest, I think Rick and Prime made her up together somehow, and now don't remember doing so, and their whole reason for being mad at each other is not what anyone thinks. She's genuinely a "completely fabricated origin story".
Which DOES make her a lot of fun to create headcanons for, I'll give ya that. Cos we don't have any information about her at all - shes a space where a character COULD go, not a character herself, so she can be whatever anyone needs. She's "The Perfect Woman", isn't that lucky :')

Summancing The Stone (Part 3 Summer Analysis)
My second Summer analysis blog EXPLODED, so first of all, thank you so so so much for nearly 60 notes as of writing this. Moving to Tumblr, I love that people are listening to what I have to say about Summer, it even seems that I'm one of the few people that TALK about Sum-Sum. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Moving on to the main topic with a recap to start us off. In my first blog, I talked about how 'Wedding Squanchers' features the single most impactful Summer scene, despite no dialog from her and how it lasts a few seconds
Tumblr media
Going off this scene, I then talked about how Summer felt the need to address her insecurities and 'avenge' Rick, as she blamed herself for befriending Tammy for feeling alone and then causing a chain reaction that tied in Rick, The Galactic Federation, Earth, and the whole family
Tumblr media
I forgot to mention that there's a seeming consistency that before this, Summer goes with the norm to survive and if it will make her popular and/or loved
Tumblr media
When she turns to Headism, she strives to be the best version of herself and for her parents, stressed when a single flaw slips through the cracks.
In 'Big Trouble In Little Sanchez', although she rides the wave of Tiny Rick for popularity, she at least addresses that Rick is endangered
In 'Meeseeks and Destroy', she uses a Meeseeks to become popular
In 'Rick Potion #9', we see the inverse with Morty trying to be popular and Summer surviving despite the apocalypse happening around her. We also see a theme of Summer loving apocalypse scenarios (which is the basis of Rickmancing the Stone), which I imagine is because she can show her survival instincts skyrocket alongside popularity when the world is crumbling
In 'Something Ricked This Way Comes', she handles working with the devil/Mr. Needful in order to be accepted for her hard work
The point is that Summer wants to be accepted and fights to survive. This culminates in the aforementioned 'Wedding Squanchers' scene, which is also the pinnacle of wishing to be accepted and having to survive being tracked by the Galactic Federation. And on a final note before we actually talk about Rickmancing the Stone, Summer also has a parallel to Morty's narrative (this being a condensed way to put it). Although Morty dealt with the horrifying reality around him from Rick showing it to him, Summer deals with thinking every action results in horrifying consequences and that she is inherently a product of said horrifying reality Today I rewatched 'Rickmancing the Stone'. And holy shit, talk about a Summer episode. It rounds off this trilogy. 'Wedding Squanchers' marks the end of Summer trying to be outright popular and dealing with all her actions and insecurities in one flash. 'The Rickshank Rickdemption' shows how she's done with going with the norm to survive and goes against the Federation, trying to undo all of her actions and saving Rick. Now we have 'Rickmancing the Stone', an episode that highlights how she's lacking empathy and being blunt. It's time to break this beast down and analyze Summer
Tumblr media
First off, we see her ignore her dad in the cold open and already want to go with Rick. I know she doesn't ALWAYS address him as 'grandpa Rick', but just calling him Rick also emphasizes this. Considering the previous two episodes, she wants to be close to Rick after almost losing him for something she blamed herself for. I think it also makes sense because Rick is not only someone she admires, but he's family. She doesn't have to 'befriend' Rick, in a way. He already holds her to a regard, so it works. This logic works in the other way too. She already had a rocky relationship with her father, seen in 'Look Who's Purging Now' because she doesn't hold any respect for her father or in any high regard - just like how Rick views Summer. She ignores Jerry and doesn't care about saying goodbye. It's likely because it's pointless - she'll already be seeing him, it's not some final goodbye, and even if it is, she already didn't have him as involved in her life. It's not like when Rick was ripped out of her life, someone who loved Summer and understood her
Tumblr media
Of course, Summer is a killing machine in this episode. As I mentioned, she's fighting to survive and reigning supreme, except it isn't entirely for love and her self image. Although everyone knows this scene, the line 'Okay, but not because you told me to' is not just an angered teen saying. It shows she's still against being told what to do and is now showing she won't take orders, but do what SHE wants - such as killing someone because SHE wants to, not because someone else wants it
Tumblr media
Strength.
A core part of Summer and this episode is strength. She joins Hemmorhage and his group when he literally says the group is stronger now. Summer is obviously showing her physical strength, but also her mental strength by choosing to push through (as we saw with all three of these episodes). Because after facing all her weaknesses from no love, she tries to overcome it by being strong and somewhat 'selfish' (not in a negative way)
Tumblr media
Again, part of that strength is family strength. She parades Morty and proudly displays HIS strength (and yes Morty and Rick have awesome arcs but I'm focusing on Summer, you see the theme of strength). That's because again, she's focusing on the family and the bond with her brother and grandfather. No friends to be made here, just going with her brother and grandfather
Tumblr media
The scene with Hemmorhage is pretty good. I think the foundation of her attraction is that Hemorrhage is flawed. Rather than going for someone who's seemingly flawless and makes her swoon (although this kinda goes against her going after Ethan in 'The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy'), the moment Hemorrhage goes on about his insecurities, it's like she finds it relatable and predictable because SHE went through it, just going in for a kiss. This also comes after when he takes off his helmet and she goes on a lil' nerdy rant about mustaches and helmets, which seems to me that it's rooted in trying to show off her intellegence like Rick, but it just shows her passion and trying to comfort Hemorrhage
Tumblr media
Side note, I think this robot Summer managed to help Beth call Jerry because of a mix of her old ideologies and new ones, coming together to AGAIN, have her family bond together. Don't forget that Summer was the one who wanted to bring Rick back, people forget how she brings the family together
Tumblr media
Let's talk about Hemorrhage.
Summer does not deny that she's still the same and says she's as crazy as when they first met. Instead, Hemorrhage is the one who softens up. She regrets marrying him and can't continue with it, which is going to culminate in an ultimate breakdown of Summer, the past episodes and blogs, and consistencies/incosistencies
Summer has wanted to focus on herself or closer bonds. Rather than trying to make a friend, she focuses on the strength of her nearest family and being aware of how weak family CAN be. Realizing how fragile it is, is why she doesn't care for Jerry and doesn't take the divorce too close. At the same time, this is why she cherishes Rick and Morty for knowing how one wrong move can break this all apart. In fact, this is probably why Night Summer...was the HEAD OF THE NIGHT FAMILY?? Just a thought...
Back on topic. We do see her insecurities pop up in Season 3, but they also focus on family, such as Jerry's girlfriend and how she appreciates her mother trying to connect and help her cope with her body alongside rejection. She's not perfect, but she works so hard to fix these things. Rickmancing the Stone shows that from now on, we'll see a Summer who is at the top of her game to simply BE at the top of her game. It's rooted in keeping in mind that everything is fragile, but she shouldn't mess up and blame herself. She should be cautious, even if this happens as a lesson AFTER she falls to her insecurities and negative thoughts. She's almost THE glue that keeps the family together this time. She doesn't try to listen to authority but herself, which explains why she still listens to her insecurities that linger. Rickmancing The Stone perfectly rounded off this trilogy I'm studying We go from Summer blaming herself for her insecurities and loneliness, realizing she's put everyone in danger even if she is the ONLY one that thinks this
She then tries to make up for it feverishly by bringing Rick back and trying to make her family reject the Federation
Finally, with Rick back, she doesn't let go of him and excitedly shows him how she's changed not just for him but for herself. She holds his respect high and we've come a long way from Rick saying she and Morty are both whiny pieces of shit he can't tell apart. She focuses on being strong, not on weaknesses. I think Rickmancing The Stone is not only fucking amazing in showing this, but the third part in this sequence of Summer's arc that forever changes her character from a mostly insecure teen to basically being a girlboss who just says and does what's on her mind
tldr summer is so cool and people should talk about how they made her cool it's not an accident or thing they randomly put in episodes #respectsummer
