Rick tries to end the friends with benefits relationship because of his feelings

Part 1

Not requested I just wanted happiness. Also I wrote this over a year ago and it's been sitting in my drafts this whole time 👀

"We have to stop this."

Rick always knew that he was only hurting himself when the two of you started this arrangement. The feelings he had for you were not returned, it was just sex. Sex with one of your best friends, yes, but nothing else. He thought he could handle it, and he had for a while, but he couldn't anymore.

You immediately moved your hands from him and scooted backwards at his words, confused, but more concerned. "Are you okay? Was I moving to fast?"

"No, I'm fine," Rick lied, staring down at your comforter and playing with a loose thread. "You didn't do anything wrong, I just..." He swallowed and hesitated to look up. "I can't keep doing this...this thing we're doing."

He wasn't expecting your face to fall so quickly. "I don't understand."

Rick took a breath, resting his hands in his lap as he twiddled his thumbs. A nervous tick, one that seemed to come out more with you. "The first time we," he gestured between the two of you to illustrate what he meant, "you said that it was just as friends–no feelings–and I agreed...but I lied. I was already in love with you then and I can't keep pretending that I'm not."

For so long, you'd wanted to hear those words, and you thought you might have jumped for joy, but you couldn't move. The shock of it all meant you couldn't say a damn thing.

The longer the silence went on, the more Rick's stomach turned. He should've just told you that he wanted to get into dating, or that he'd already found someone else that interested him. Anything besides the truth. The thought of losing your friendship was worse than anything, but he could feel that it was about to happen.

As Rick went to stand up, you quickly reached out and kept him from doing so. "Please, just wait a second. Let me say my piece."

Rick's brow furrowed in that cute way that made your heart skip, because you weren't deadly serious, as if to tell him all the bad things he was dreading. You were smiling, warm and sweet, and that began to put him at ease.

You gently took his hands in yours, and you could see the tension slowly leave his shoulders. "When I said those things, it was only because I assumed that no strings was what you wanted. I never considered that you loved me too, but looking back, it seems kind of obvious."

It did to Rick too, when he remembered that you were the first to insist on him staying the night even after you were both spent, just to cuddle and hang out. Or how you would hold him and play with his hair whenever he needed comfort. A small smile touched the corners of his mouth. "So...you love me?"

"Yeah, I do." You squeezed his hands as you smiled back. "Obviously, having sex with you is great. Really great." A flush crept up his neck and you couldn't help grinning wider. "But my favorite part has always been after, when it's the two of us and we order takeout or watch a cheesy movie. Because I'm with you, and...it just feels right."

"I know exactly what you mean."

You let go of him and reached up to cup his face with a deep tenderness you'd been scared of showing before, to finally say the words directly. "I love you, Rick."

"I love you," he said in return, laying his hands on yours, feeling like he did the moment Grundy's hand came out from the dirt years back. Relieved and joyful. Like things were finally heading in the right direction.

Leaning in, you gave him a kiss without holding back a thing. And as Rick laid you back on your bed, there was no more hesitation or hidden feelings. No more lying to your friends or leaving when morning came.

Just the love you had for each other, and that was everything.

Rick Tyler / Hourman x reader

The doubt was slowly eating him up inside, enough to move to his outward motions. His hands clenched, fingers digging painfully into his palm, yet, he could not bring himself to shake the feeling free.

“Y’alright?”

You’re staring at him over the top of a book, attempting to work on some project that he isn’t quite sure of its topic. He sits across from you, eyes glued down to the table below him.

No, no he wasn’t.

Rick knew he had one last fight in him to keep himself from blurting the sentence aloud, and he begged for forgiveness for what your face would surely show if it ended up slipping.

Instead, your book falls lower, a flurry of concern in your expression, dropping the object to the table with a loud thud.

“Rick?”

It’s softer, eyeing for his attention one more time.

He looks up, and it’s hard not to notice the worry and fear that’s welled into his eyes. He’s internally fighting something, you know it.

“I know it goes without saying, but I am here for you. You know that, don’t you?”

Your hand comes across the table, reaching for the one that currently wasn’t tearing his palm to shreds.

“I know.”

It’s the first thing you’ve gotten him to say, and he finally relents, biting his bottom lip as his fingers finally fall free.

“As long as you know.”

You’re squeezing his hand, running your thumb alongside the back of his, softly moving over his knuckles as it slides back and forth.

It’s calming, if only slightly.

His anger has dwindled, he’s sure of that, it no longer consumes him from head to toe anymore.

That self doubt, though…

“So what’s on your mind, Rick?”

His left eye twitches, and he shakes his head, hand pulling free from yours and pushing his chair backwards.

He stands, shoving his hands into his jean pockets, feeling the warmth of your hold disappearing too quickly.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry—“

“Why?”

Rick rasps, his shoulders shrugging upwards, then they fall back into place.

“What’s the point, y/n?”

“I don’t understand, Rick, I—“

“You keep putting up with me, and all I do is push you away.”

You stand as well, going to round the table to move next to him, when your outstretched hands fall back to your sides.

“Hey,”

You whisper, taking a hesitant step forwards, praying that he wouldn’t take one backwards.

“It’s not putting up with you, Rick. It’s just being with you, you can try and push me away all you like, I’m not going anywhere.”

You’re trying to convince him, and you can tell it’s not really working, because he just sighs and leans back against the table.

“What can I do?”

“It’s not you.”

He shakes his head, forcibly pushing the thoughts away once he met your gaze.

“I’m sorry, y/n. I’m having trouble with something else, and I’m taking it out on you.”

“That’s alright.”

You shrug, hand finally coming to his arm to run your hand up and down his upper arm, smiling softly at him.

“Talk to me when you’re ready, alright?”

He can’t help the disappointment, watching you pull away and retreat back to the table, picking up your back and continuing your reading.

He will tell you, eventually. Just not now, not before he gets his mindset back into a better state.

Then, he’ll spill his guts.

High School Heroes | Rick Tyler x Black Canary Reader

Summary: One night on patrol, Hourman goes to save a woman who was being mugged but before he can, a boy in fishnets and a black leotard does it first. Introducing himself as Canary, Courtney insists that Rick gets him to join the New JSA. Canary agrees, under one condition.

Warnings: Superhero violence, jumping off buildings multiple times, men in fishnets, two superheroes talking about each other to each other without knowing

Rick walked on the side walk, the cold air making his cape flow behind him. His eyes darted around the area, looking for something wrong. He fidgeted with the hourglass on his chest, getting ready to flip it. "Help!" Rick's head snapped from where he was looking to an alley. He flipped the hourglass, the chemicals surging through him.

Running to the alley, he saw 3 men walk towards the high school Physics teacher. She clutched the purse in her hands, her foot slipping to the side as she walked backwards. Rick inwardly winced when he saw her ankle slip. From what he's heard and seen, heels weren't worth what they did to the body.

He was about to charge in, but a shadow dropped down from a building and landed on the shoulders of one of the guys. The person wrapped their legs around the guys neck and twisted his body, causing them to fall down. The Person stood up, pushing the heel of their boot into the side of their neck, causing them to pass out. They looked at the other two, rolling their neck and shoulders before charging.

They kicked one in the groin, causing them to lean forward in pain, which they then kicked him in the face. He turned to the third, who went to run away, but he stopped when he saw Rick. Rick walked forward opening and closing his fist. The Person was standing behind the man, who turned around and was met with a knee to the stomach and a headbutt to the face.

The man fell back, which finally gave Rick a good view of the Person. They were wearing a black leotard, which showed off their toned legs. They had fishnets and combat boots. They was wearing a leather jacket with rolled up sleeves over their costume. They also had a belt on their waist that had 3 pouches on it. Their hair was h/c and long. It was loose around their head and a few strands fell in front of their left e/c eye. They also had a black mask that covered his eyes.

"Hi, thanks for intimidating them Muscles." They said, punching his shoulder, then immediately retracting their hand and shaking it in pain and surprise. "Thank you so much!" MS. Armstrong said, shaking the Persons hand. "No problem, now get home safe. Okay?" Their voice was gentle when he talked to her, putting a hand on her and nodding to her. She nodded and limped/ran off.

"So, who might you be? Im assuming your name isn't actually Muscles." They turned to look at him, a smirk on their face. "Hourman. Who are you?" The Person grabbed Rick's hand, kissing it with a small bow. "Hourman, it's a pleasure to make you aquantince. I'm Canary." Rick looked at their eyes, which were checking him out. They were biting their lower lip a bit too as they did so.

Rick heard footsteps behind him and he turned to see Courtney and Yolanda walking up to the pair. "Hey, who's this?" Courtney asked, standing on Ricks right. "I'm Canary. Now, let me guess. Stargirl? And Wildcat?" They said, pointing from Courtney and then Yolanda. "My mom told me about the JSA, so meeting Hourman made me assume there'd be other members. And you'd obviously change it from man considering you're not one." They explained after seeing Yolanda and Courtneys expressions.

"Now, I hate to cut this short, but I have a Chemistry test tomorrow, so I got to go. Great meeting you two, and hope to see you again Muscle Man." Canary kissed Ricks hand again before running and jumping on a dumpster and climbing onto the top of a building. "Wow. Who was that?" Yolanda looked at Rick, a thumb pointed at the dumpster. "They said they're name is Canary." Courtney grabbed Rick's arm. "We have to get them on the team! Next time you see them, ask them to join." Rick looked at her in surprise. "Why me?" She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, the staff floating behind her. "They obviously like you!" Yolanda nodded, a hand on her hip. Rick looked at the rooftop, his arms crossed.

Y/n walked down the hallway, his eyes scanning the chemistry book in hands. The pain in his legs made it impossible to focus on the formulas in front of him. It was a huge mistake jumping off a roof, and that guys bony shoulders didn't cushion anything. Y/n closed his eyes, taking a deep breath through his nose before opening his eyes and sighing. He should have taken a pain killer before coming to school.

He looked up, noticing a guy leaning next to his locker. Y/n limped over, unlocking the locker and smirking at Rick. "What's on your mind this time Rick?" He looked at y/n, chewing on his lip. "Did you hear about thr new hero?" Rick asked, and y/ns legs tightened, pain shooting through them. Hear about? I know him on a personal level. Yn smirked at his mental response before looking at Rick. "No, who are they?"

They walked to their Chemistry class together, y/n's eyes darting from the hallway infront of him to Ricks lips. "From what I hear, theyre very flirty." Ricks said his eyebrows scrunched together. "Huh, well, at least we have a hero woth personality now." Y/n said a smirk on his face and a supressed laugh in his mouth.

"I dont know, I think that Hourman is pretty cool." Rick said, causing Y/n to roll his eyes and laughed sarcastically. "Yeah, the walking muscles." Y/n joked and shook his head. "His costumes cool though, right?" Rick asked, his voice sounded like it was desperate for approval. "Green bodysuit and yellow cape. Defiently. I gotta say, he's way too hot for that costume." Y/n shook his head and noticed Rick stiffening next to him. "You think he's hot?" Rick asked, his voice losing all of his usual confidence. "Yeah, but don't worry. You're wayyy hotter." Y/n said bumping his shoulder against the blushing Rick.

They walked into the classroom, the pair going to their desks and getting ready for the test. When Y/n sat down, he winced, his legs burning. He stared at the paper in front of him, the symbols, letters, and numbers blurring together. He looked over at Rick, who was already half way down the page. Uh, he's so cute when he's focused. Y/n looked back down and narrowed his eyes before Christmas treeing the questions.

Y/n sat on the roof of the library. The Libraries roof was designed in a way that y/n was able to get his feet in a position so that they wouldn't move unless he moved them and he wouldn't slide off. His hair blowed around his face, a few strands smacking into his eye.

He closed his eyes, leaning back so he was laying on the roof. He almost fell asleep but then he heard a thump in front of him. Y/n sat up and saw a rock in front of him, slowly sliding off the roof. He leaned over the wall, staring at the man who threw the rock.

"We need to talk." Hourman said when Y/n had climbed down from the roof. Y/n sat on the bench, crossing his legs and smirking at him. "About what exactly?" He asked, his eyes scanning over the man. Spotting every area where the suit had padding so he could figure out his real figure, before his eyes snapped to his face and he spotted every detail not covered by the mask. He looked so familiar that it bothered Y/n.

Hourman sat next to him, turning to look at him. "Stargirl wants you to join the JSA." That was unexpected. "Oh, wow. Um, okay." Y/n stared at him with wide eyes. "I'll do it, under one condition." Y/n said staring into Hourmans eyes. Y/n looked at every detail he could spot, piecing everything together before he decided he figured out his identity. "What is it?" He asked, his eyebrows scrunched together. "Go on a date with me." Y/n said, leaning forward so they were a few inches away from each other and their shoulders and hands were touching.

"What?" Rick pulled away from Y/n. "Go on a date with me." Rick stood up shaking his head. "You dont even know who I am, and I dont know who you are." Y/n stood up, walking up to him and putting his hand on his shoulder. "You'd be surprised." Rick turned around and looked at him with narrow eyes. "What?" He asked, moving closer. Y/n rolled his eyes, taking his mask off and putting a hand on his hip. "You seriously didn't recognize me just becuase I covered my forehead and uncovered my thighs?" Ricks eyes widened and he took a step back. "Y/n?" Y/n laughed and nodded before stepping forward and putting a hand on his chest. "Yes Rick, its me. Now, go on a date with me, and I'll join the JSA." He smirked at Rick, sliding his hands up from his chest and wrapping them around his neck. "Whatever you say." Rick smirked at him before leaning down and kissing him.

Y/n sat on Ricks lap, staring at the door and waiting for Courtney, Beth, and Wildcat to show up. "So, you figured out everyone's secret identity except for Wildcat?" Rick said, laughing and putting his head on Y/n's shoulder. "Okay, this is my last guess. Yolanda. She is always hanging out with Courtney, and Wildcat seems to be Courtneys second in command." Y/n turned to look down at Rick, who nodded. "Yes! I kmew I could get it! Now for my prize." Y/n turned around completely, so his legs were on either side of Rick and they started kissing, Rick's hand on Y/n's thighs and Y/n holding Rick's face.

"Um, Hourman, Canary?" Y/n turned around and saw Courtney, Yolanda and Beth staring at them in full costume. "Oh, hey guys. This isn't a good first impression, is it?" Y/n got off Ricks lap and straightened out his fishnets. "Not really." Yolanda said, her mouth pulled into a thin line. "Okay, well, welcome to the team. I see that you are already acquainted with Hourman. I'm Stargirl, founder and leader. Welcome to the team."

Walkers pov

It was my fifth day on set, and it was going pretty normal. I was sitting in a chair off set scrolling on my phone next to Leah and Aryan since it was our break. Leah looked up from her phone and looked over at me.

“Hey Walker?” She smiled and cocked her head a little, I looked up from my phone and over at Leah.

“yeah?” I look at Leah who is staring at my phone where my lock screen is showing.

“who’s that on your lock screen?” She asked with a slight giggle causing Aryan to look up. I proudly held up my phone showing off my lock screen which had a picture of my partner, Y/N, on it.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, my partner Y/N!” I proudly said as I watch Leah and Aryans mouths gape open.

“Your dating someone?” Aryan said while on the edge of his seat, so was Leah. I gave a nod and pulled up a picture of us when we had went to Universal Studios for their 15th birthday and proudly showed the picture.

“Well why haven’t we met them?!” Leah exclaimed with a smile plastered on her and Aryans faces. Aryan spoke up.

“you should totally bring them to set tomorrow walk,” Aryan said as he straightened out his posture in his seat. I thought for a moment.

“Will Rick allow it? I hope I’m not pissing off the producers if I do that.” I shrugged and put my elbow onto the arm rest of the plastic chair. Aryan looked over at Leah.

“I’m sure he will. I brought my best friend on set that one time.” Leah said, “Why are they like annoying?” She asked, I don’t think she was trying to be mean with that. At least I hope.

“No! They’re really chill.” I said with a smile and looked at the picture I had pulled up on my phone and smiled a little more.

“Then bring them! I’d love to meet them!” Leah said as Aryan nodded in agreement. I gave a nod in response.

“I’ll bring them then.”

Later that night, around 12am I guess, I texted Y/N while I was lying in bed.

You: “Heeeyy sweetheart?”

My love<3: “yeeees?”

You: “would u wanna come to set tmrw? My friends wanna meet you :)”

My love<3: “uhh lemme check with my mom.”

You: “kk”

My love<3: “she said it was fine as long as I can get a ride :)”

You: “sure! Me n my dad will come get ya tmrw morning.”

My love<3: “What time?”

You: “Around 8:30”

My love<3: “that works for me. Night ilysm!”

You: “gn hon, ilyttt”

Your pov

The next morning I had to get up around 7:00 which kind of sucked. I threw on a hoodie and some sweatpants and brushed my teeth, combed my hair etcetera, etcetera. I waited at my front door for Walker to show up like a dog waiting for its owner to get home from work. I hummed a bit before seeing his dad’s car pull up and I immediately opened my front door and ran out.

“Walker!” I called out excitedly at the smiling face I was so used to seeing as I ran to the car that was sitting in my driveway.

“Y/N!” Walker called back, he rolled down the window to the passenger seat and looked at me. “Hello my dear.” He said dramatically and kissed me. I smiled and opened the door to the backseat.

“Hey walk,” I smiled and waved at Pete, walkers dad. “Hi Mr. Scobell.” He gave a wave and a tired smile, which made sense, it was 8:00am.

We got to set in around a 30 minutes, which wasn’t too bad. But the set was..intimidating. It was huge and already had cameras everywhere and a big parking lot. Walker looked at me through the rearview mirror with a smile.

“You nervous?” He giggled. I nodded “A little.” I said even though my hands were shaking. “you don’t have to be nervous, everyone is really nice.” He said, “And they’re all really excited to meet you.” That made me calm down a little, I mean, remembering Walker would be with me made everything better. Me and Walker hopped out of the car and started to walk to Walkers trailer where he introduced me to his makeup artist and his hair stylist. He was sat down in the chair where they did his hair and makeup and I sat in the chair next to him. Then Aryan walked through.

“Hey walk- oh, hi!” He waved at me, “Are you Y/N?” He paused walking for a little to talk to me, never knew I was that interesting.

“oh, yeah. I’m walkers partner.” I shook his hand and he had a big smile on his face. “cool! Nice to meet ya!” He said with a handsome smile on his face and walked off

“see you later!”

Walker perked up, “That’s Aryan, Leah should be here soon cuz she’s always late.” He laughed as I saw Leah walk through. She was even prettier in person. ”Am not!” She playfully punched walkers shoulder lightly as she had a smile abroad her face. “I’m Leah, I’m guessing your Y/N?” She asked and shook my hand

I gave a nod “Nice to meet you!” I said. She let go of my hand and replied with a small laugh. “Lovely to meet you too! See you two later.” She walked off to her trailer and Walker looked at me with an ear-to-ear grin on his face.

“I think you’re gonna have a good time on set today.”

“Me too, Walk, me too.”

Things had been going very well since you and Rick finally confessed your feelings about two months earlier. It was perfect, really. Neither of you had to pine for your friend in secret, you could just be together. Hold hands, go out on dates, kiss.

But there was one thing the two of you hadn't managed to do yet. Between work, college, and the JSA, it seemed impossible to find the time to take that next step. Whenever you did get a free night in together, it never got past a few minutes of making out before an emergency called you both away.

That night, things would hopefully be different.

The movie you'd picked out had been abandoned, and you were no longer laying on the couch with your back against his chest. You had turned around to kiss him, then got him where you had him at the moment. His head on the throw pillow as you straddled him, lost in the kind of deep kiss you'd both spent years longing for.

Rick gripped your thighs a bit tighter when you moaned into his mouth. He'd already started to get worked up when you first kissed him and the noises just made it worse. He hadn't actually admitted this before, but he'd imagined the sound of his name on your lips more than a few times. Maybe this would be the night he would actually get to hear it.

Not that he minded waiting. You were worth it, and it had been his idea not to rush things in the first place. He wanted your first time together to be special and for you to be comfortable. And that didn't mean squeezing in a quicky whenever you had a few free minutes. It meant a night like this, where you could take your time and hopefully not have to stop to save Civic City–or worse, the world.

Pulling away to kiss his jaw, you rolled your hips against him and made him let out a soft groan of his own. You took his hands and moved them underneath your shirt to lay on your waist. "I, uh, really liked when you did that last time."

Rick let his hands roam your warm skin just like you wanted, and his eyes darkened at the way you shivered and your breath shook. You continued to grind against him, one hand planted next to his head and the other on his face as you kissed him again. He fingers were at the hem of your shirt, but just as you thought to suggest moving things to his bedroom, Rick abruptly pulled away.

"Did you hear something?"

Before you could answer, the front door swung open.

"Oh my god!"

The sound of Yolanda's voice sent you to the floor with a surprised yelp, and since Rick tried to save you, he went tumbling too. You both looked up to find her standing in the doorway, her hand over her eyes. When you noticed that she was wearing her costume, covered by a coat and sans helmet, with an equally mortified and costumed Todd standing behind her, your heart sank.

Rick sighed in resignation and turned to you before Yolanda had her say, silently asking if you were alright. You'd only fallen two feet at most, but it was still so sweet that he cared. You smiled fondly as you nodded at him.

"You're supposed to let me know when you need the apartment to yourself for...that!" Yolanda scolded.

Rick was about to protest and say that he did, but he remembered that the thought had left his head the moment you got on top of him. "I got...distracted."

"I'm sure you did. But on the couch? Really?"

You pressed your lips together to keep from laughing at the fact that her eyes were still covered while her other hand rested disapprovingly on her hip. "You can look now." Her hand dropped from her face and you continued. "And no, we weren't going to actually do it on the couch."

Rick stood up and helped you to your feet. "You could've called," he said to change the subject. He wasn't keen on talking about sex with his best friend. Not more than was necessary at lease, since she was also his roommate and those things were bound to come up sometimes–like right then, for instance.

The annoyed look on Yolanda's face told you to check your phone, so you grabbed it from the coffee table and laughed awkwardly as you showed Rick the screen full of missed calls. "I guess at least one of us should've left our ringer on."

Yolanda crossed her arms over her chest. "Anyway, you two need to suit up."

"I'll take you home to get yours," Todd said directly to you and a bit too quickly, clearly taking his chance to get out of the situation.

You took Rick's hand and gave it a squeeze, leaning in for a little peck on the lips. "I'll see you in a bit, okay?"

"Yeah," Rick said, reluctantly letting go of your hand so you could walk over to Todd. When you both disappeared in to a portal of shadow, Rick turned to his friend. "I'm sorry, Yolanda. That wasn't cool."

Yolanda softened a bit. "It's okay, I get it. Really." She and Court had that same problem when they first started dating, and it was still a bit of a struggle sometimes. "Just don't forget to let me know next time." She gestured towards his room. "Now go get ready before Todd comes back."

Rick left to change into his suit, hoping the two of you could get the timing right someday.

I’m usually so nervous to tease wips like this because I have a history of promising things that I never finish but I have been adding a little to the next chapter of what I have nicknamed the “Potato Flag saga” AKA my Adrian Chase x Flag!reader series Lose You Too. This next chapter is when shit really hits the fan as y/n learns who killed Rick… 👀👀

🤡 What’s a line, scene or exchange that you’ve written that has made you laugh?

I actually tend to go back and forth thinking that this is funny or thinking it’s cringy and wanting to scrub it from the internet but rn i like it. It’s the entire Brie and Brad exchange in No Stressing, Just Obsessing (x) bc I just really loved writing such a chaotic sibling relationship with annoyed but begrudgingly protective older brother with sarcastic little shit younger sister.

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on a loop?

I have specific character playlists for each character I write. Recently I was working on a Steve Harrington x reader x Eddie Munson fic and so I was listening to Need You Tonight by INXS (because it’s what I named the fic after), Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler (because it is sooooo Steve Harrington coded fr) and 18 by Anarbor (because it reminds me of Eddie) a lot!

💖 What made you start writing?

The original fandom I wrote for (the HBO war fandom) was just so small that if I needed to write or I wasn’t gonna have a lot to read. Now I do it because it’s a great way of making my maladaptive daydreams actually productive and worth something.

💞 Who’s your comfort character?

This changes all the time because I think I have undiagnosed ADHD and jump from obsession to obsession at an alarming pace but probably Steve Harrington from Stranger Things or Robert “Bob” Floyd from Top Gun: Maverick bc they just make me feel safe and happy and I keep coming back to them time and time again.

Honestly probably Bob from Top Gun: Maverick. He has just enough canon information to get a real sense for his personality but also so much that’s unknown bc he was a relatively small character so I have a lot of room to play around with headcanons and stuff.

● "really kid? You want to go Nebraska?"

● "you get to have your fun with Renee and Helena, maybe this will turn out to be where I belong"

● "if that's what you want I'll set up a place for you to stay just don't get carried away alright you still have a lot to learn about your powers"

● you start at Blue Valley High school as soon as you move to town, keeping your eyes out for any superhero activity

● it doesn't take long for you to figure out who's involved, Courtney, Yolanda, Beth and Rick

● and it didn't hurt that Rick was easy to look at

12. “Really? And what do you plan on doing with that knife?”

When did hiding become part of your routine? It wasn’t always like this, right? No, you were happy once. You both were, but there was trouble in paradise and that trouble came with Rick.

His insecurities had always been a problem. Not for you but him. They ruled him more than he would ever let on, you knew that better than anyone. You knew so much more than anyone could imagine but you didn’t hold it against him. You stayed because you loved him.

But sometimes you wondered what your life would be like if you had walked away. You wonder if you would still have to hide. If you would still need to clutch that all too familiar knife to your chest for protection. Probably.

Rick was never one to give up after all.

Bang.

The sound of the bedroom door being thrown open pulled you out of your thoughts. He was home. And he wasn’t happy.

He never was, not anymore.

Covering your mouth, you try to stifle what little noise you could. This sick game of cat and mouse was getting to be too much but if it meant you could possibly get away and be free from this turmoil, be free from him, once and for all then you would try your hardest to win.

“(Y/n). Come out.” You flinched at the sound of his voice. It didn’t even sound the same anymore. There was no love or warmth in it. Hell, there wasn’t any life in it, not anymore.

“Aren’t you supposed to welcome your husband back home? Isn’t that what a good little spouse does?” He was making his way around your shared bedroom. He is heavy footsteps were getting closer.

And closer.

Until finally, through the crack of the closet doors, you saw him standing directly in front of you. Flinging the closet open, Rick takes away the only thing keeping him from you.

You’re scared. You’re shaking. You can’t make a move to use the knife you’ve been clutching so close to your chest. Your body doesn’t want to react. Or rather it can’t react.

Your fear stricken state allows Rick the opportunity to grab you, pulling you out of your safe haven into his crushing grip. Seeing the knife in your shaking hands earns a rough laugh from him.

“Really? And what do you plan on doing with that knife?” As if the two of you haven’t been in this exact situation time and time again.

Ripping the knife from your grasp, he throws it to the other side of the room, hitting the wall in the process.

You’re too distracted to hear what else Rick has to say. Staring straight ahead, where the knife was now sticking out of the wall. You see that it was also protruding through a framed picture of you and Rick. You could still remember the day it was taken. You were both so happy and so in love.

Now there was anything but love and happiness left in you. You were stuck and he was never letting you go.
