the line of elros ❖ stewards of gondor ❖ headcanon disclaimer
Hador was the youngest child and only son of Túrin I by his second wife, Meldis. He witnessed his father’s poor treatment of his first family, Andreth of Belfalas and her daughters, and resolved to be a kinder husband and kinsman. After Túrin’s death, Hador reconciled with his estranged sisters and invited them to return to Minas Tirith. The youngest and worst-treated, Níniel, did not come, but her elder sisters Lalaith and Nellas were glad to be welcomed back to the city of their birth and the family they had left behind.           Lalaith was older than Hador’s own mother, and soon became a mentor to Meldis in needlework and philosophy. Nellas was likewise many years Hador’s elder, but the two became fast friends, and she often advised him in political decisions.           Due to Túrin’s age at the time of his birth, Hador inherited young, before his marriage. Like his father, Hador wed the love of his youth, but he was determined to remain a loving husband to his wife. Thus, when that wife confessed to him shortly after the birth of their first and only child that he was a man at heart, Hador fully supported his transition from wife to husband despite the scandal it caused in court. This husband, who named himself Maerion, lived joyfully at Hador’s side, though due to the hostile nature of Gondorian politics he often went on long journeys, mastering the bow and entering athletic competitions in the various fiefs throughout the land.           Hador ruled in a time of peace, and became known not for any great deeds but rather his alteration of the Stewards’ Reckoning first established by his ancestor Mardil Voronwë. On the three hundredth anniversary of the calendar’s implementation, he added an extra day to the year to reduce the millennial deficit and ensure that timekeeping was kept in synchronization with the seasons. He lived to an admirable age of 150 years, but was the last man of Gondor to have such a lifespan; after him, the lifespan of those with Númenórean blood began to wane.           The son of Hador and Maerion was Barahir, named as his father was for a mighty lord of the Edain. As his father’s reign was long and mostly uneventful, Barahir gave little thought to running a nation and focused instead on hunting in the White Mountains. He was frequently absent from home, leading to quarrels between him and his wife Taweneth. Though Taweneth did not leave Minas Tirith, after one such argument she did depart to a different part of the city, taking her daughter Rían with her, though Barahir insisted he keep his son Dior with him in the Stewards’ house.           Barahir grew old sooner than his ancestors, and upon his death at age 122 it began to be speculated that a harsh temperament decreased the lifespan of a Dúnadan. Fearing his own decline, his son Dior decided to spend his rule as Steward doing good deeds. Dior oversaw the renovation of Minas Tirith’s lower districts, providing food and shelter for the poor, and ensured that Gondor’s outer settlements received as much support as the capital did. Alas, this did not prevent him from succumbing to old age at 107, though he was remembered kindly by his people for his efforts. Still, he lived longer than his namesake, whose elven blood did not prevent him from an early death at age 36.           Dior never married, for his desires were turned toward men and the attitude of Gondor was against such unions at the time, especially after his grandfathers Hador and Maerion flouted custom with their “unconventional” marriage. He took various lovers throughout his life, but kept his affections secret to all but his sister Rían, whose son Denethor was named Dior’s heir.           Rían came of age free of her father’s shadow. She became an herbalist in the Houses of Healing and was known for her curiosity about the wider world. Once, on a visit to Ithilien, Rían made the acquaintance of an elf who had once been of the Laegrim, those led by King Denethor who died on Amon Ereb. Rían greatly admired her new friend and was eager to hear the tales of the Laegrim, returning to Minas Tirith to ensure the story was recorded correctly. She even named her son Denethor in the Avarin king’s honor.           The husband of Rían was Bellmund, a farmer who dwelt on the outskirts of the Pelennor Fields who once came to the Houses of Healing for treatment of a deep cut received while reaping his crops. They fell in love and were soon wed; though her mother Taweneth was sad to see her daughter leave, she allowed Rían to move to her husband’s farm, in part to spite Barahir’s disapproval of the union.           When Barahir died and Dior became Steward, Rían frequently took to visiting her brother in the city, accompanied by her son Denethor. When it became apparent that Dior would not marry, she convinced him to name Denethor his heir, and moved her family from Bellmund’s farm to the Steward’s House.

@morwenfairaself @thecrowngift
Those cousins are the only ones that were there for him that moment. He remembered that he was tired of the problems of the world that day and he needed to be with them all the time because he loved Morwen and Rian. They were together that moment and this was the only thing that mattered to him.
They were so sweet and kind to him all the time. He loved his friends too much. He could not imagine his life without them. He was the only one who could talk to them while there husbands were fighting for Gondor. They needed help, they needed comfort that moment.
Vorondil was wondering what he could do to help them out. But he spoke with them about the innocent times when they could travel far and wide and discover new lands on. He did not mention about hunting because he knew how much Rian hated hunting.

Do you have certain fancasts for the lotr characters (asking because of your amazing Arwen gifset)?
Yes, I do! Although I do like PJ’s movies, and some casting decisions worked for me, and some didn't. All hobbits, Legolas, and Thranduil were almost perfect. But, for example, I like Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn, but I also think that his Aragorn is closer to Thorongil than Elessar. He is too young and insecure for Aragorn I imagined reading the books.
So far I (a known Dúnedain stan, who literally can’t choose between Arnor and Gondor, because they all are the best, most awesome humans) have:
Deva Cassel as Arwen from the gifset you mentioned. She is so young, graceful, and gorgeous! And yes, Arwen is the Queen of  Dúnedain, she should be here.
Mads Mikkelsen in Michael Kohlhaas as LOTR Aragorn. He is supposed to look like he is in his late forties, I think. Also, Aragorn's greying hair was mentioned in the books too.
Richard Armitage in Robin Hood as Halbarad. This faceclaim was pretty much accepted by the entire fandom long ago.
Oscar Isaac in Agora looks like Faramir to me. In this movie, his character wears Greek clothes and Byzantine Gondor is a hill I would die on.
But I really need Boromir fancast.
I don't have any ideas about faceclaim for older Denethor either. I have some ideas about younger Denethor and Aragorn (maybe I'll make a gifset soon? I'm really into this criminally underrated ship, you know).
Adelaide Kane in Reign as Finduilas of Dol Amroth. She looks so beautiful, sublime, and gentle, and just perfect for this type of character in this TV show.
Bruna Marquezine as Lothíriel of Dol Amroth. I've seen someone's edit with her as Lyanna Stark once, and since then I was absolutely certain that she is perfect for one of the Dúnedain.
Luke Roberts (who played Arthur Dayne) as Prince Imrahil. I've seen this done a lot, and I like it? He looks like someone I would trust with anything in heartbeat.
Marina Moschen as (young) Gilraen. I've seen pics with her holding a bow, and it is very Ranger-y.
As for non-Dúnedain, I was thinking about:
Imogen Poots in Centurion as Éowyn of Rohan. I adore Miranda Otto, and the "I am no man" scene is iconic, but I feel like PJ aged Éowyn up a bit in the movies (maybe it's just me, idk). She is supposed to be just 23, and Imogen Poots looks young and tough at the same time.
No Éomer yet, only some ideas. Karl Urban was near perfect, but a bit older than I pictured him in the books.
Also, Théodred. If his cousins were aged up in the movies, he was certainly aged down, because in canon he is almost 20 years older than them. Still no ideas, sadly.
Théoden is perfect as he is.
Also, Bard! Luke Evans is amazing and totally on point.
If I'll go into Silm territory, then:
I generally go with models for the Elves, and I change my Elvish fancasts very often.
But Katie McGrath in Merlin as Lúthien, because have you seen her in the blue dress in this TV show???
Also, Eoin Macken as Beren. I imagine him to be a very good-looking and romantic guy (in the lone guerilla fighter but actually a real Disney prince way), so...
I've accidentally seen Aneurin Barnard and Freya Mavor together in White Queen and instantly went "wow, Túrin and Nienor", so they have been my fancast ever since.
Eva Green or Lena Heady as Morwen, they both are so stern and beautiful. But I still have no idea how I picture Húrin, Huor, Rian, and Tuor.
Also, we've talked about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Aldarion once.
Wow, it ended up very long. And I love Dúnedain, as you can tell.

I need to start a list of all the times bright lights have shot into the sky in a TV show/movie and if they were good or bad, like;
Return of the King: Bad, signaled Minas Morgul riding out to war against Gondor.
Avatar the Last Airbender: Good, signals Aang’s return, and then later happens again when he takes the Firelord’s bending away.
The Dark Crystal: Good, allows the Gelfling all around Thra to communicate and hear Rian’s message to unite.
Feel free to add more! I know there’s a ton I’m not thinking of right now.

I’ve been walking around listening to yt rants of 8.03 and trying to heal my broken hopes, and i can say it right now : it was some ol bullshit. The world I invested my time and heart in, my skills rping those f characters around here on tumblr, the show I was comming back to when all of my life was going downhill, it was all bullshit.
And if you’re trying to find some meaning in this bullshit, then I am sorry, but I judge you, I do, feel free to unfollow : Im not sure if Ill be around tumblr anyways.
What was Jon for ? Why bring him back? He did nothing. He wasn’t the prince who was promised. His parenthood reveal goes to shit. There is no reason for him being targaryen other than for him to sit on the iron throne ( no “his is the song of ice & fire, azor ahai will come from targaryens” prohpecy stuff ) and at this point : who even gives a fuck about this chair anyways ?
White walkers were the ultimate darkness and evil. To show the readers/watchers that politics, conflicts, revange, betrayal, religions our minor poblems are NOT IMPORTANT compared to the greater enemy to be defeated : be it climate change, or death itself, or insert any theory here.
How am I suppose to care about politics and thrones rn ? After the greatest enemy has been defeated?
It’s as if Voldemord was killed in the middle of the series, and now Draco Malfoy is the big bad to be defeated.
As if Sauron was defeated in the middle of Two Towers and now Aragorn’s claim to gondor is all we have to care about. I CALL BULLSHIT ON THAT.
What was Bran for? His almost decade adventure beyond the wall, his ability to CHANGE MADAFUCKIN TIME, his knowledge of everything? To throw some bullshit one liners “chaos is the ledder” or “the things we do for love”? What was he here for? To throw refrencess to better seasons?
Some of the scenes which were VISIBLE, like the dragons flying on clear sky above clouds ( FUCKING MATRIX RIP OFF, OKAY ? ) or lighting the trenches were okay, but what looks good doesn’t make something GOOD, okay ? A person who’s pretty & dum is still dumb? A nicely taken photo of a shit with filters on is still PHOTO OF A SHIT ???!!???
I’m not an expert on the fucking art of war so I’ll leave it out, but one thing : the fuckin dorthraki rode into the open field? WHAT FOR? Oh i know what for, to get that cool shot of their swords dissapearing into darkness, it was PRETTY but it was DUMB!
The fuck jamie lannister, a guy who has one had, managed to fight all night ??? He should be dead. They all should be dead. Alle the people in the crypts should be dead, with sansa, varys, tyrion, gilli&her stupid non-aging baby, all DEAD. They are all just shells of who they were, so it’s a mercy killing at this point.
Fucking Sansa don’t even get me started.... What’s with “once im queen i will make them love me” ? She walks into crypts, doesnt even care about the scared people and children, doesn’t bring them comfort, anything. At least Cersei have some wine for her women during Blackwater battle.
And Arya.... how much I hate her character... after Arya sailed to Bravos she’s as good as dead to me, really. I can’t stand how non-george-martin-overpowered-tomboy she’s become and I don’t get anyone who sees her as “badass”. The line Mel gave her about shutting “brown, blue, green” eyes wasn’t prophecy about killing Night King, it was a probhecy about her becoming a MURDER ASSASIN, bc that’s what her story is about : revange, and becoming a dark shell of a human because the need for revange overcame her = it’s better to let things go sometimes.
They gave her the night king kill bc FEMINISM, YAY, KWEEN SLAY, and if THAT’S how women are empowered right now - by female characters in plot armour killing logic and stripping other characters (Jon/Bran/Dany?) of their purpose in the story - then I am ASHAMED to be a woman.
They should have died... brienne, jamie, podric, tormund, grey worm, missandei, sansa, tyrion, varys, sam, gilly, little sam, + those who were actually killed this episode. At least their deaths would be meaningfull - heroes fighting for humanity against the death, the foe bigger than any of us - I bet now they will get killed for mad!kween d@ny on the battlefield, fighting for a chair.
Or even worse : if they all gonna get happy ending... j0nerys with their incest babies, grey warm&missandei holding hands on the beach somewhere, jamie pushing bran’s wheelchair, while brienne brushes their daughter’s hair and sings jenny’s song.... that will be the ultimate bitchslap for all of us.
I would say to you : fuck the d&d, fuck hbbo, go read books, wait for the REAL ending. But tbh... I don’t even know if we will ever get Winds of Winter. Forget about Dream of Spring! GrrM is 70&doesn’t look healthy enough to live next three decades (don’t want to fatshame or anything, cersei would love me cuz I look like an elephant myself) and mind you.... he hasn’t wrote a good book in like 19 last years? The two last books in asoiaf series weren’t that amazing, Dance of Dragons was HORRIBLE in my opinion actually, heard various reviews about his other work.
Maybe this world, this saga really IS too big for one man... maybe we will never get the ending we were promised, just like the prince that was promised was actually a bravos ninja.... maybe we shouldn’t hate on d&d alone bc george martin is guilty of the same thing they are : pride. He was sure he will be better than Tolkien, with his rian-johnsony’s subverting expectations that he cought himself in a web of plots he can’t solve.... ?
Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe next episode we will see Bran waking up from the coma and the whole last 8 seasons will be just a dream. Hate me all you want, I dare you, but you can’t change the truth :  All those hours of rping, video making, art making, listening to asoiaf/got theories an my bus to school, then university, or as I was falling asleep, crying over beloved characters ......
it was all
bullshit.

Let’s do to other movies what Rian did to Star Wars!
Harry Potter: Despite being loved and brought up by two adoring parents, Harry and Ginny's son decides that Hogwarts is a load of crap and uses the Dark Arts to destroy the entire school, and most of the students and teachers in it. Harry decides that sucks and runs away to live in the cupboard under the stairs of his aunt and uncles as a 60-year-old man. Ginny decides this is fine and joins a professional Quidditch team and ignores her new Dark Lord son. All their other child have mysteriously disappeared. Hermione is killed by the Dark Lord son in a brave but stupid attempt to bring him back with the power of love, and Ron has just been completely written out. Some promising new characters that were off to a good start in the first movie are mysteriously sidelined for other, less interesting, new characters who are all killed in the second movie.
Lord of the Rings:  Frodo actually threw a different ring into Mount Doom and pocketed the real one. Despite all the horrors of the trip there, and all the losses, he decides it’d be cool if he actually became the new Sauron and wears the ring. Samwise decides this is okay and totally not out of character for Frodo. Frodo kills him anyway, and then the rest of the Fellowship (just in case). Aragorn escapes, but he decides to sail into the West instead of dealing with it, and lets Gondor burn. Some new characters show up who look like maybe they could stop Frodo, and one of them manages to kill Frodo unexpectedly, but then s/he picks up the ring and takes over Middle Earth instead. One of the other new characters sails into the West to get Aragorn to come back and help, but he tells her to fuck off and that it’s probably better this way anyway.
Please feel free to expand and/or add your own.
