things i did for school today

- moved on with my studio project

- learned a new command in Rhino7

- started studying physics for my midterm (which i found out today is next week like hello? damn)

- redid my descriptive geometry homework because i got it wrong the first time

- helped my friend with his studio project and also helped my other friend with her 3D model

selfcare moments

- had chinese for dinner because i was craving it sooo much and it was delicious

- talked to my best friend and had a really good cup of tea with her

- finally organised my room!! it’s so clean and pretty, i want to keep it this way haha

- put on make up and felt so pretty today (after a long time of feeling ugly)

- had a cigarette break with my friend

- made myself really good breakfast and snack for school

- also i read my favourite book!

things i am grateful for

- my best friend

- my friends at my dorm

- good food

- good weather

- my computer and youtube (these are literally saving my academic life right now)

- my boyfriend

- my newfound friends at uni

tasks i’d like to do tomorrow

- study physics once again

- do my homework for drawing class (because i didn’t have time to do it today)

how i felt today

it was really an exhausting day i must say but it was also weirdly good and i am so proud of myself for actually studying! i’ve been a bit tired the whole day so i can’t wait to go to bed haha. today was a good day, the weather felt like real autumn finally and i liked my outfit and make up, so i felt confident and like myself again. right now i feel like maybe i should’ve been a bit more productive but what has passed has passed and now it’s time to go to sleep, i can work on more things tomorrow <3 remember not to be so hard on yourself!

Week 9 : 3D Scan for Printing

This lesson although very interesting, once I was able to start. Also took a while to get sorted through. I couldn't figure out how to renew my Rhino7 license, and took a few days trying to figure it out before eventually asking for help from one of my peers. I ended up using Citrix, and using the Rhino7 app available there in order to quad mesh the stl bottle file.

Originally since the license I had, had expired, it would not let me save my progress, so I had troubles exporting it to the 3ds max. This was the result that I had ended up with when using the expired license.

After finally putting it into the rhino7 app given by the citrix app, I was able to transform the shape into the required form that was needed to export it into 3ds max, and began to experiment with different shape forming.

Since I was sick during the lesson that, I was unable to tune in for the lesson, and could not find the recorded lecture, as I believe the file had expired, or had been moved to another website. After a while of experimentation, I was however, able to discover a way to manipulate the form of the bottle, and created vertical spikes piercing out of the bottle in a zig zag pattern. Even though I am pretty sure what I did was not correct, especially after seeing the other examples posted as well, it was still a good experience to familiarize myself with this software.

( End product somewhat looked like a comb, maybe even a comb that could be used for self defense tactics, so not a total loss )

Week9 work

The main content of week 9 is mostly 3ds Max learning. I need to learn how to export files and make more accurate drawings in 3ds max.

There was a problem when the file was exported from the beginning. I don't have rhino7. This software expired as early as last semester. I only have rhino6 now, which makes it impossible for me to quickly convert the shape of the mesh. I carefully looked at the process of one of the students. He chose another function to reduce the number of grids. I refer to him in many of my work. Fortunately, I can finally download 3ds Max files directly from Moodle and edit them, so I can continue to learn according to the playback of the class.

The process of learning according to the tutorial can be said to be much easier. The initial modification is very simple. I need to move and rotate the model, move it to the pivot and straighten it. Finally, adjust its axis so that it is located at the center of the model.

3ds Max has many other functions, which can bend or taper the model. In this way, many steps can be omitted in some work.

The next tutorial is quite complicated. In fact, my understanding of it is still not thorough, but I basically understand the principles and functions of these functions. FDD can add a cube with vertices to the model, and the model can be smoothly modified by adjusting the cube.

Another way to adjust is to edit the polygon and then adjust its vertices. This function is very effective when modifying the exact location of the model. If there are depressions in the model, the depressions can be quickly eliminated by planarization.

The last function is symmetry. As long as I add a rectangle, I can use it as a plane to make a uniform shape.

This week's practice is generally like this. I have watched and learned many useful knowledge and skills over and over again. Because I haven't gone to Australia yet, I can't experience many contents. But these skills can give me a lot of inspiration in the future 3DMAX and other modeling software. In general, these contents are very helpful to me, and I think I will attach great importance to them.

For the ceiling, I designed it as a giant cocktail glass spilling wine, the floating wave liquid shape roof is the main installation in this space except the moving image screen. To maintain the feeling of spilling liquid, I tried to use textured glass slabs for it, but after some research about the glass, I realized that it would be very hard to make the glass into very curvy shape, and it may be too heavy. There is another material - acrylic, which is lightweight (half that of glass), strong (9 times stronger than glass), and can be used outside with confidence, also acrylic has the versatility to be fabricated, folded or moulded into various shapes and sizes, and it can also presents the liquid effect which I prefer.

A super productive day today!

Finished my edits & schedule for work (ONE MORE WEEK, woot woot!), completed my reading for next week, did my sketches for studio, and finished my research for my history & theory project.

Also spent time with family today and started Anna Karenina. Feeling like a challenging language lesson so doing some Duolingo from Russian to French to suppress my language. After that, I’ll just be reading for the rest of the night.
