Finnrey! I ship the Bffs while I Reylo. TFA

Let's be clear I love FinnRey and I understand the possibility of them being romantically was set up. John Boyega and Daisy Ridley were set up as the heroes of the new trilogy and they had wonderful chemistry. More than that, it was clear they enjoyed working together. John Boyega confirmed that JJ Adams developed Finnrey even more as he watched John Boyega and Daisy Ridley friendship develop.

Everything in the galaxy was beautiful. Hopeful. We saw two strangers become two friends willing to die with one another. We saw a boy meet girl. Girl stand up for boy. Boy stand up for girl. They go on an adventure together.

...... then this happened.

And Reylo took over the world. Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver have dynamic and sexual chemistry. Even with just about three scenes that they have in the movie they left quite an impression. They single handedly sent the trilogy on a different course than initially planed. That wasn't the only thing to happen. Reylo became a lightning rod for both love and hate. Thus began Reylo vs Finnrey. In between all of that was frustration over Finn being sidelined and mistreated. Sadly, I don't think many Star Wars understand the essential element that was Finnrey, nor understand their relationship. FinnRey are soulmates too, they're not just romantic. Rey's destiny laid elsewhere.

Another important point. Finn has become quite famous, even to my mother who never watched the movies, for screaming "Rey". This on top of his non-sexual friendship with Rey somehow made Finn deemed "A Simp" by the Star Force Bros. Or, he's a black man following a white woman around. It's insulting, simple minded and goes against storytelling.

While Rey and Kylo introductions are meant to represent ying yang, Finn and Rey introductions are meant to highlight their similarity. Finn is a stormtrooper. A child kidnapped, conditioned and employed as a sanitation worker with a side hustle of fighting. Rey is a scavenger. A child abandoned to work for Unkar Plott and live a lonely and isolated life. The glasses Rey uses in her work are taken from a Stormtrooper uniform. The first we see of Finn is in his stormtrooper uniform. They are both in white.

Finn as a character is earnest, brave, loyal and quick to form friendships. While he initially only helped Poe because he needed a pilot to flee the First Order, he doesn't take Poe's life for granted. When he finds out Poe made it out of Jakku alive, he's genuinely happy.

Rey, despite what people think, does have a character. Rey is guarded, lonely, impulsive, resourceful and independent by circumstances not choice. When these two collide it's because Finn see's Rey being attacked and feels compelled to help her. BB-8 tells Rey that the jacket Finn is wearing is his owner's so naturally Rey thinks he stole it. She mistake him for a resistance fighter and he goes along with it.

Naturally both Rey and Finn seem interested in one another at first. Suddenly this dashing, handsome, resistance pilot falls in your lap and walks with you on an adventure.... girl, you see what's what before you say no. You could say the same for Finn. We're not given much information about his upbringing as a stormtrooper, but his initial reaction to meeting this brave, pretty girl is to form a bit of a crush. We've seen in Rey's introduction that she fantasizes The Resistance. She's got a resistance doll and she playfully wears a resistance helmet.

In the movie, we're given more of a hint that there is an romantic intention from Finn's perspective such as when he asked if she had a boyfriend, cute boyfriend. In the novel, it's clear she does notice his attractive appearance, "And she’d found a new friend who, unlike BB-8, was flesh and blood. In fact, **after getting a good look at him, he was quite..."

But the moment she and Finn are pushed back into action, Rey loses her sentiment and simply bonds with Finn as a person. Rey is actually annoyed she's been marked by the Stormtroopers simply by being near him. Finn keeps taking Rey's hand as he leads her away from danger hahaha something that she really loathed. A moment of shift is highlighted in the novel when there's an explosion behind them on Jakku. Rey is the first to orient herself and when she checks on Finn, the first thing Finn does is ask if Rey is ok. This is all Rey ever wanted... someone who cares about her. This is what shifts her from being dragged along to actively helping both her and Finn survive.

Finn and Rey actually form a beautiful and deep bond very quickly mostly because they start off together. Both of them are out of their environments with literally one person that's really in step with them. Can you blame them for latching onto one another?

As they flee in outer space, they learn one another's name and get to know one another better. We as an audience get to see that both are complimentary to each other and already more open. When Han Solo captures the Falcon both continue to seek to protect one another.

While Finn and Rey both try to flee the First Order and encounter Han Solo Finn's goals haven't changed. While at Maz's canteen? Finn's announces his goal to flee the First Order and Rey is shocked when he 'abandons' his mission with The Resistance to find refugee in the outer rim. "Rey sat at Maz’s table, stung by Finn’s departure. She had saved his life multiple times, and yet he had dumped her like an empty blaster cartridge. She chided herself for thinking he would be different. If her short life had taught her anything, it was that those close to her would abandon her. That was the way of the galaxy. Best to live alone and look out only for number one. Then you wouldn’t get hurt. Then you would survive. So why did she suddenly find herself going after him?"

It's in this moment that Finn finally reveals the truth about the fact that he's a stormtrooper and not apart of the resistance. He tells the story of his rebellion. "I made a choice. I wasn’t going to kill for them. So I ran. Right into you.” Finn’s voice broke, but he quickly recovered. “You asked me if I was Resistance, and looked at me like no one ever had." That! Right there! Finn saw a chance to be something else in someone's eyes and took it. He ask for Rey to come with him (maybe she should have hahaha) Rey wants to continue on with her mission to get BB-8 back to the resistance, while Finn runs off with a crew to seek refugee in the outer RIM.

Now I cannot say this enough. Finn doesn't give a damn about the resistance. Nor does he cares about fighting the good fight. At least not in the first film and most of the second. When Maz's place is attacked by the First Order. It's his affection, loyalty and respect for Rey that motivates him to stand up for himself and confront his fears. When Rey is kidnapped in the sprint of his life Finn tries to save her. When he concludes that Rey was taken to First Order base he goes straight there with the help of the resistance, even going as far as deceipt, to rescue her. He faces off with Kylo Ren, the greatest threat within The First Order, in order to defend Rey and himself.

Han Solo – “How do you know how to disable the shields?

”Finn – “I don't. I'm just here to get Rey.”

Han Solo – “You sure you're up for this?”

Finn – “Hell no. I'll go in and try to find Rey.”

Meanwhile while Kylo Ren is interviewing (side eye) Rey he takes a peak into the emotions of Rey concerning Finn. "Hmm…," Kylo Ren murmured softly. "You've met the traitor who served under me. A minor annoyance grown larger than he deserves. You find him more than tolerable." He drew back slightly, bemused. "You've even begun to care for him. A weakness, such distractions." Yeah, the boy is in her heart.

Then there is the moment when Han, Chewie and Finn find Rey on the First Order Base. "Whatever the Wookie had uttered caused tears to well up in her eyes. Having never found himself in such a position before, Finn was unsure how to respond. Knowing well her inner toughness he wondered what Chewbacca had said that could have inspired such a reaction. "What'd he say?" She sniffed and wiped her face. That it was your idea If he had been unable to find the right words with which to respond before, her reply, combined with the look she gave him, reduced him to a state of temporary aphasia."

It cannot be underestimated the importance of Finn on Rey's overall development. Rey’s spent her whole life waiting for her family to come back for her on Jakku, knowing really the whole time that they never would. Finn coming back for Rey after she was captured is the first time in her life someone has cared enough for her to come back for her. He cares about her, he fights for her, he came back for her and never asked for anything in return. The two of them have a friend, a genuine friend, probably for the first time in their lives and despite the fact that neither of them know much about friendship..... they make great friends.

It's also really cute how Finn gave her his jacket to wear while out in the cold.

It does have to be mentioned that originally in The Force Awakens novelization there was suppose to be the beginning of a romance. The authors recalls being asked to edit the book. One request that “bothered” Foster while writing “The Force Awakens” was to remove the romance he was setting up for Rey and Finn, played by Daisy Ridley and John Boyega in the film. The two characters are not romantically involved in “The Force Awakens” movie, but Foster said Abrams’ screenplay was “obviously the beginnings of a relationship” between Finn and Rey.

In the forest while Kylo Ren's real bone to pick is with the traitor/Finn ultimately Finn stands against Kylo Ren to protect Ren, facing his fear by doing so.

Likewise Rey stands against Kylo Ren to protect Finn who had just been injured by him, facing her fears by doing so.

In the end Rey was prepared to die with her friend Finn as she stood by his side before being rescued by chewie.

Their initial chemical reactions to meeting each other wear off quickly, replaced by a brother-sister companionship. They are the first positive relationships in each other’s lives, and while they certainly form a bond, it’s not a romantic one. Onto The Last Jedi.

It was time to go. Leaning in to him as closely as the pod would permit, she kissed him softly. "We'll see each other again my friend. I believe that."

Kiss of Life

Author's note: A scenario I thought up of our favorite pilot and my OC Kit. I had a lot of fun writing it. May make it a series out of this drabble. I don't know.

Rated: PG-13

The war was over.

Every member big and small of the rebel alliance was awarded with medals of valor in a grand ball.

“Great speech General.” Finn laughs shoving his bestfriend’s arm mid sip causing him to dribble down his chin. “Grade A General Dameron.”

He glares, but the smile couldn’t help, but make an appearance.

“Children. I’m cursed to play mother.” Ray states scolding and joking, but mostly scolding at the two full grown man.

“I don’t know?” Finn wonders sauntering around her. She stifles a shriek as he snatches her waist holding her close. “We can play later, mommy.” he smiles, speaking lowly making Ray snicker, but punching his chest. Not full strength, but enough to get her message across.

“My ears, my ears are bleeding!” Poe shouts dramatically covering his ears “La, la, la, la, naughty talk, Poe no like naughty talk.” he continues in a childlike voice.

“You’re one to talk.” Finn counters.

“Yes, talk. I talk nicely and gently for I am always a gentleman.” he states purring over the words gentle and gentleman.

“ Po---I mean General Dameron, sir?” the address sounded more like a question of a statement unsure of the proper title in a social gathering.

The trio turn towards the voice Poe the last to do so turning his head to peek over his shoulder at a Felis, an endangered species 200 recorded in the entire galaxy thanks to the First Order through genicide and or enslavement. Red orange eyes and healing cut along her widows peak.

“BB, alert medical!” He instructs hopping a quarter of the way on one leg loosing the laces on his right boot swiping and doing the same to his left. Kicking them off leaping into the water towards a sinking X-wing. Routine evasive maneuvers.

Bad things seem to happen to the veterans outside of battle and war.

Through the merky blue pressing his palm to the wind screen finding the entire left window broken. He flinches feeling something trace his jaw gaping it recognizing the orange of the flight suit and four fingered hand. Following the arm finding her body still buckled in. Bubbles erupted from his mouth, swallowing the urge to inhale.

Breaking the surface grunting to lift her head above water. Mohawk of fire red hair mopped over her face he almost looked over the obvious open wound on her widows peak lines of blood with her black markings he wasn’t sure were from birth or ink. Pulling her body onto shore. Gasping for breath he goes into rescue mode. Feeling for a pulse snapping her fingers in her ears not seeing them flinch.

He begins chest compressions pinching her nose giving three breaths going back to chest compressions. After four, five rounds her body spasms spitting up pond water. He helps her up by patting her back as she breathed.

“Cadet Kit” he nods.

“My apologies, I didn’t mean to intrude, Miss Ray, Mr. Finn.'' she bows her head in respect. She stood pencil straight dawning a deep v cut neckline black dress that changes hues to red in certain lights. Duel tails flicked from side to side.

“Don’t be.” Rey waves off giving a gentle smile. “We’ll catch up later, Poe.” she excused, taking an unsuspecting Finn by the arm.

“General Dam---”

“No need for formalities, Kit. Come have a drink.” he gestures to the empty seats at his sides.

She sighs taking a seat smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress reaching back to preen her impressive mohawk that ran down her spine mid back for all to see thanks to the open back dress.

The bartender approached.

“Ummm…” red orange eyes darting over the wall of bottles. “...just a star lyte.” She orders meekly. Shortly a tall glass of bubbly starting from yellow to a clear.

“Is everything alright since…” he trails off not wanting to tear out wounds, but genuinely wanting to know a cadet under his watch is ‘well’.

“No.” She assures. “I mean yes…everything is fine. I've been evaluated and tested and given the green light to return to work.”

“I'm waiting for a but.” Poe speaks his mind.

“I don't want anything from you, I'm not blaming or-or pressuring you, because you didn't know, I mean how could you know.” she rattles off sporadically.

“Kit, Kit, Kit.” He calls. Catching one of her flailing arms. She’s breathing hard guiding her hand to the bar tenderly rubbing his thumb along her hand.

“I'm pregnant.” She sighs.

“Congratulations?” He trails off in confusion from such a display having any connection to him.

“It's yours.” She quickly adds ears drawn back anticipating an outburst.

“You're joking.” He laughs

“No.”

“You are.”

“No.”

“We've never…” he gulps deep in thought going through his list of intimate partners over the past few months. “...we never…” he states, but isn’t even unsure of himself.

“No, we've never…did that, but that's not required for me.”

“How then…”

“When…when you kissed me---I know it wasn't a kiss.” She cuts in. “But that is how my…” she wills herself to continue. “That is how my kind conceives.” She states as if the very words pained her. “Any form of dna substance in organisms.”

Poe stares at her. Unblinking brows furrowed she could hear the gears in his mind working overtime. When his unblinking stare became unbearable she opens her mouth, but he turns he head breathing in deeply covering his face with his hands.

“I've already filed a request a transfer so you don't have to---”

“Wait transfer. Wait---stop, stop, stop..” he shakes his head turning his body toward her. “...why would I want you to transfer?”

“It's unprofessional and irresponsible to continue working together…”

“Says who?” He asks.

She scolds a ping of warmth in her heart at his rebellious ‘fuck the rules attitude’.

“You are my superior. Any promotion or demotion will be scrutinized.”

“I would never---”

“I know.” she coos. “But on the outside what will it look like?” She reasons.

“I assume you're keeping…” he could finish his thought.

He? She? It? Them? Everything was just moving so fast.

She nods. “You don't have to feel obligated, I'm fully prepared to do all of this on my own.”

“I want to be a part of this. My mom would haunt me and beat me senseless if I didn't man up and take some responsibility.”

She laughs at that.

“Did you get a scan or is that---is it too early.” he asks.

“Can't really tell anything yet. Just that little colo is there.”

Scooting closer touching shoulders. Tapping her wrist band, projecting an image on the bar top.

“Colo?” He recites.

“It's stupid. It's just…looks like little Colo claw fish egg.”

Taping the still image plays. A small blob in a sea of static. Rotating it to show small darker spots within flickering rhythmically.

A heartbeat.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Rewatch Part 4

Rey "If you see Finn before I do, tell him..."

Chewie Gurgles

Rey "Yeah, perfect. Tell him that."

To anyone who thinks this is a one-sided friendship.

It was honestly very brave of Rey to go alone to the First Order. She had a lot of faith in Ben/Kylo Ren cause she really didn't have a plan except to plead with him I guess.

We might have gotten a hint of their sexual tension before but it's full pride and prejudice here. The novel goes a little bit more in depth and it's canon from Rian/Adam that Ren wanted to kiss her her.

General Holdo is a great leader but is there a reason she couldn't just communicate her plan to get Poe off her back, it seems like it could've saved some trouble. 3PO running off to not be party to a munity hahahahaha

Leia coming back in time to dip out and knock out Poe. It's a great scene between Holdo and Leia about strength and leadership.

The throne room scene is brilliant just all around. The acting, the direction, the production, the look of it all. Snoke didn't bridge their minds though not sure where that came from, writing wise. Rey be patient with our boy, Ren, you didn't have a plan and he's having to come up with one on the spot. Adam driver played Ren's neutrality perfectly.

Rey in plucky but she Lord she did not think this through. Ren, not one for patience or controlling his temper, actually locked it up this scene to save them both. I didn't see this in theaters so I'm curious what the reaction to him killing Snoke was. Bet it was wild. Then the moment when they lock eyes like "you with me?" and here is this iconic moment. Power lightsaber couple.

I keep forgetting that Finn used to be in The First Order. General Hux, Phasma and company have known him for a long time. Hence the bitch slap Hux gives Finn haha.

I'm so annoyed that once explained to Poe, he agrees it's a good plan and stops trying to interfere.

We also see Ren at his full fighting level. Novice Rey wouldn't have beaten him. He's beating several trained individuals at once. He's finally freed in a way he's longed to be by choosing Rey.

The cinematography during this film doesn't get enough credit. Like at all. You can see that this film is a labor of love.

That moment when Rey thinks he's Ben only for Kylo Ren to be like hey girl, still here. It's a great scene, can't say that enough. It does go to further illustrate that there isn't any place these two can hide from one another. It's what makes them seen though and fully connected in a way they've never been to another person. Yeah, they ain't letting this go.

The fighting over the lightsaber. Beautiful visual.

General Holdo after watching some boat blow up, moves to action and goes out like a G. Seriously she needed to do something or she was the only about to survive. The sound production, once again, is just amazing.

Finn and Phasma fight is nice and it's wonderful watching him more and more confront his problems instead of running away from them. Rose and Finn could've at least had soot covered clothing. I mean something. They look pristine here. Overlay aside this is a beautiful shot of Leia.

I just love the shot with the planes. The trail of red like blood over the white salt. In the resistance typical shitty ass equipment. At least it makes sense here why they have poor equipment.

I do love that Kylo makes a competent leader if not an emotional one. I wonder if he had a moment to enjoy finally becoming boss. It's what even his grandfather never managed to do. It's obvious that he takes no pleasure in it. He wanted Rey there with him.

hahah General Hux and Ren are just chef's kiss.

Rose crashing into Finn was stupid. Finn dying a heroic death would've been better or at least no pointless. The kiss was undeserved. Finn looked grossed out and confused. Or Rose could've died the heroic death, I don't know, but this is trash. However, people need help if they personally attack actors cause they don't like their characters.

Luke Skywalker finally shows up. I will say this moment of finally stepping up feels so deserved cause we watched him bullshit for the entire movie. It also brings it around that ultimately Luke is a symbol at this point. His job wasn't about beating the First Order or even Kylo Ren, it was about having something (someone) to believe in. Leia and Luke had such a touching scene where you can see the love between them as characters and actors.

Kylo Ren testosterone kicks in and he's gotta fight Kylo Ren Mano e Mano. It's a great character beat. Luke wouldn't, nor could he, kill his nephew no more than he could kill his father. He did a very unorthodox heroic thing very in league with his legacy, he bought them time to escape without being violent towards his kin. The moment Kylo Ren realized he's fake though ha! what a moment.

Finally Rey and Finn reunite. There's more chemistry, relief and connection in this wordless hug than in every single one of FinnRose's scenes.

Finally, the death of Luke Skywalker. It's peaceful, purposeful, heroic and full circle which is more than Han got. Staring at those two suns we're called back to his days on tattooine.

The last forcetime between is filled with so much emotion, again without a word spoken. Allowing actors to emote and not always just speak is the sign of a great writer and director. Ren looks at Rey with such confusion and longing. Rey looks at Ren with such disappointment and tough love. Also, I didn't realize Poe and Rey hadn't met yet. It's like automatic frenemies.

On the other side of the galaxy children share the story of Luke Skywalker standing up to oppression, violence and so forth.... and we conclude.

Overall, I LOVE THIS FILM. I don't give a damn about the hate I receive for loving Reylo. It's a beautiful, well written film with great character development. Do I like the handling of Luke Skywalker? No. The titty milk scene was gross and demeaning. Everything else I enjoy whole heartedly.

Now onto Rise of Skywalker? God give me strength. I remember it was a mixed bag, mostly confusing hot mess with a terrible ending.
