I’m going to preface this by saying that I also got annoyed about a similar phenomenon around my favorite character in C2 (Caleb) so I don’t think this is just an Imogen problem but:
I’m increasingly frustrated with the way a lot of the fandom talks about Imogen and especially how other characters interact with her. There’s a lot of super uncritical “how could you be mean to my poor baby” that crops up even when she might kind of need to hear some hard-to-swallow truths and be questioned.
It ends up creating a fan environment around a character where it seems like some of the most vocal “fans” act like she’s so fragile she needs to be protected from any challenge or hardship or confrontation of her own fears - and what makes this frustrating is that the context of this character is that she’s in a D&D game. Challenge is the thing that will move and progress the character in that medium.
So I’d like to offer an alternative to the framing of that moment with Imogen, Orym, and Laudna I keep seeing. Yes, Orym was blunt, but he wasn’t exactly providing new information, just a reminder of the stakes and their job. “I’m pushing everyone” - I mean, of course! At this stage, why wouldn’t you if people faltered? In contrast I see Laudna’s clinging to soothing and comfort and “you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to” to be a depiction of how sometimes that kind of expression of love isn’t actually helpful and merely allows for continued indecision and stagnation. Imogen may end up disagreeing on a course of action with Orym, sure, but trying to stop her from even considering or engaging with alternatives is a smothering affection also borne of fear that doesn’t allow Imogen agency.
The interesting contrast with Caleb is that it was Nott, his ride or die pal, who was often the one pushing and challenging him to grow. And don’t get me wrong, the similar fandom problem I noted at the top with Caleb absolutely targeted Nott and later very strongly Veth for daring to tell him blunt or uncomfortable truths. But Imogen’s ride or die girl isn’t pushing her, she’s doing the opposite and trying to cocoon her. Which I guess the fandom “protect my poor precious fave” impulse agrees with and doesn’t read as its own kind of interpersonal issue.
Imogen does need to be challenged if only so she can decide, truly, what she wants to achieve out of being on Ruidus and how far she’s willing to go. She’s a deeply conflicted character who has a lot of fascinating conflicting agendas she’s struggling with. If she is never pushed or never pushes herself she may not take the time to actually consider where her personal line is. Someone constantly agreeing with and shielding someone can be a problem in its own right.

i keep thinking about how if kaiser and isagi were to ever adopt a kid (or multiple kids), their kid(s) would probably get into football too
the thing is, i don't think kaiser or isagi would change their surnames if they ever got married. they would stay michael kaiser and isagi yoichi. which means their kids would probably have the surname isagi-kaiser/kaiser-isagi.
that would be a fucking mouthful for the sports commentators though. and it wouldn't be right to call them by their jersey number while called everyone else by their surnames. it would also be pretty weird if they called them by their given name
instead, they give isagi-kaiser/kaiser-isagi a nickname that's a combination of both halves of their surname.
what i'm trying to get at here is that i think it would be fucking hilarious if isagi and kaiser's potential kid(s) get referred to as "kaisagi" during games

Plant
John drew out his armchair outside of the cottage in the afternoon sun.
Sherlock was in the cottage, typing something up for his website, Science of Deduction.
They had retired from the casework and had been enjoying their retirement life since almost a year.
John was admiring the plants they had grown, alongside Sherlock's apiary. Bathing in the sun, he smiled and closed his eyes.
John heard a pair of footsteps coming out of the cottage after some time. Two large and familiar hands grabbed at his shoulders and started to massage them.
John smiled and leaned back in his chair.
"Did you post anything on your blog?" he asked with his eyes closed.
"No, I was just making an excel sheet. I'm done now."
"About?"
"The various types of smiles of John Watson. Right now, it's Type two hundred and twenty-one."
John shook his head and chuckled. "What does that mean?"
"Meaning you're comfortable with yourself at the moment."
John nodded in agreement.
"And in love."
John opened his eyes and turned in his chair to look up at Sherlock, who was gazing at him with his lips compressed.
"Not just at the moment. I'm always in love," he said and pulled Sherlock close by his dressing gown.
Sherlock bent over and put an arm around John as they began to kiss. John was running his hand through Sherlock's hair.
John never wanted this moment to end, or his life to change in any way, shape, or form.

Decided just now that it'd be really funny to have a whole bunch of different d&d characters who are all like former knights of the same order or crestfallen sellswords from the same mercenary company but also have all of them individually believing for their own reasons that they are the last surviving member of their group

I need you to know I call you "Asher" in my head, because that's how I first read your screen name. I always think "I'm going to check and see if Asher's posted anything recently" or "I wonder what Asher thinks about this."
I kid you not, last year there was a surge of people realising just then that my username is a reference to Sherlock, and they had been calling me Asher Lock all that time 😂😂😂 so you’re not alone
The irony is that this was a 100% Sherlock blog until the show finished, and the design of the blog and the post menu is still full of it, I feel like I have raised several tumblr generations, where each knows me for something else and then it moves on but I am still here 😅

Window
John opened the sitting room window of their cottage to let the sunlight in. He closed his eyes on that fresh summer afternoon and smiled.
It had been more than a year since he and Sherlock decided to take retirement from the casework. They had been searching for a different place to stay in the countryside.
Eventually, they found a nice and cosy cottage in Sussex together.
John had loved that place in an instant, and Sherlock had been already making plans for his beekeeping, before even buying that place.
It had been a month since they had moved into this new place.
Fresh air, open meadows, a small but comfortable cottage for them to live in - this place had everything, and Sherlock was going to start with his beekeeping in a few weeks.
Life was good. He was growing old, but being with Sherlock hardly made him feel stiff or anything. Life with Sherlock meant that there was barely any time to sit in a place for too long, and John loved every second of it. He sighed fondly.
Suddenly, John felt a pair of hands wrap around his abdomen. He opened his eyes and looked down. Long and thin forearms, and large palms.
He leaned back and placed his hand on one of the forearms that were holding him so gently.
"What are you thinking about?" asked Sherlock from behind, directly into John's ear in a low voice.
John couldn't believe that voice still made him shiver, even after being together with this man for so long.
Without turning back, John smiled wider. "You."
