as garbage as civil war was, it really set up steves disillusionment with cap and his lack of need for the mantle, SHIELD, hell even the actual shield, leading into infinity war and endgame and that would have been the perfect time to focus on developing sams character as the new captain america for more than a three second scene instead of. groot fortnite dancing and taco bell or whatever

Let me get this straight, in your ideal version of TFATWS:

The opening would be about Steve not staying in the past so that he and Bucky can “get back together,” even though they were absolutely never together in the first place, thus making them the focus.

You would then have Steve and Sam (two people who are best friends btw) get into it over the shield, because even in your fantasies for a “better” show, Steve would be a crappy friend to Sam.

Then you have Sam still needing money and going through the racist loan stuff. Mind you, this is your fantasy version of the show, right? So you could have Sam be financially fine (like Scott, Clint, Bucky, and, well, every other supe post Endgame), but, no, he still has to have that extra bit of bad luck.

Then Joaquin is what? Randomly and vaguely homophobic for some reason????

And ep 1 ends with Steve… apologizing but then telling Sam about the government trying to take the shield, which implies he wants/expects Sam to do something about it?

I mostly enjoyed the Captain Carter/Hydra Stomper episode of What If...

It's cool to see a storyline that's giving the Peggy/Steve romance the real emphasis and emotion that the main MCU never bothered to (Peggy's longest arc in the MCU was two seasons of her own show devoted to getting over Steve, only to have her dropped back into his arms as his reward in Endgame, a movie in which she had not one single line.) And I loved Peggy/Nat best friendship.

BUT

--and it's a huge BUT--

WHERE THE HELL WAS SAM WILSON?

Sam's an integral member of the modern Team Cap. He's Steve's best friend (and successor).

You're telling me that a major plot point was a daring midair rescue of Peggy and Steve--and it wasn't by Sam? The literal Falcon?? The guy who has a signature move of rescuing people in midair???

You're telling me that we actually got GILF civilian Bucky--and his protector was fucking RUMLOW? Not Sam?? (The next Captain Carter installment better have Rumlow, a HYDRA agent, kidnapping Bucky. Maybe Sam can rescue him then. [I haven't finished s2.])

What If had the chance to finally give us all the members of WWII Team Cap (Peggy/Bucky/Howard) and the modern one (Sam/Nat/Bucky) in an adventure together. And it dropped the ball. What a disappointment.

I see in comments or posts that some people call out fic writers and readers for not writing characters with their canon orientations. But they might forget something like a fanfic is not gonna be published as a comic book or tv show scenario. Let us read whatever we want and let people write whatever they want. It’s not canon or something. Just because a character is straight or homosexual doesn’t mean we can’t write or read them in fic where they’re gay or straight. I love kory and she’s not lesbian but I still love to read kory x reader fic because why not 😉

Hello dear! My fav fic of yours is definitely Sleep, Sammy. My Gramma and I used to quilt together, and you writing about him sleeping under that quilt! I just bawl every time I read it because it makes me think of all that time with my Gramma, and she's gone now. Reading that fic is so cathartic for me, I go back to it every few months, when the grief gets heavy and I need to cry it out.
