Throwback to my first Buns-n-Bands class, taught at Springhill Recreation Center on May 15, 2023. I created this class in April 2023 as a means of filling a gap in the availability of resistance bands classes here in Mobile. Inspired by Mecca Day of Oh My Glutes! fame in Atlanta, GA, Buns-n-Bands pairs booty-popping dance with muscle-building moves...and add fabric resistance bands to the mix and you have a workout that doesn't even feel like a workout because it's just so dang fun!
Shout out to the women (my mother + aunt included) who came out and supported my debut! I always get nervous before class but seeing familiar faces made it all much easier for me!
Looking forward to teaching this class in the Fall! Stay tuned for the Buns-n-Bands monthly schedules and choreo notes!

The Evolution of My Workout Routine
As someone who loves fitness, I've had the opportunity to try out many different types of workout equipment over the years. While I've enjoyed experimenting with various workout equipment, one type of equipment has remained a constant favorite of mine: resistance bands.
When I started working out, I was drawn to resistance bands because they were affordable and versatile. With just a few different bands, I could get a full-body workout in the comfort of my home. I loved how I could easily adjust the resistance level by simply using a different band or adjusting the placement of the band. Resistance bands were also gentle on my joints, which was important since I had low back pain.
After a while, I wasn't making as much progress as I wanted with resistance bands. I began incorporating bodyweight exercises into my routine, focusing on push-ups, squats, and lunges. I loved using my body as resistance, and I started to see and feel more progress.
However, as I got stronger, I needed more than bodyweight exercises to keep challenging myself. That's when I started incorporating weights into my routine. At first, I was hesitant, worried that using weights would make my low back injury act up. But as I learned more about strength training, I realized controlled movements could prevent those issues. Instead, I found that using weights helped me build more muscle and get stronger than I ever had before.
Now, my favorite workout equipment combines resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, and weights. I love the variety this approach gives me, and I enjoy mixing and matching different exercises to create a customized workout that fits my goals and preferences.
It's interesting to lock back and see how my workout preferences have changed. What started as a love of resistance bands has evolved into a more well-rounded approach that includes various equipment and exercises. I'm excited to see how my workout routine will continue to evolve and grow, and I'll always have a soft spot for those trusty resistance bands.

This was taken in the summer of 2021. One of my big go-to exercises for a strong #upperback, for myself as well as my clients, is the #bandpullapart. Perform this with either a #pronatedgrip or with a #supinatedgrip (my preferred grip!), which will remove the #anteriordeltoids from the equation, allowing the focus to be directly on the #posteriordeltoids. This amazing exercise also plays a part in #trapezius development, giving you a look of power, and #muscularbalance, as the increase in #strength allows you to retract your #scapula with ease. Aim for up to 20 reps when warming up for any exercise or you can also hit this on your off days.
