Ok. At this point? Everyone that follows me knows I'm obsessed with my Pedro 😌
When my bestie surprised me with this pedro pascal silicone mold, I nearly lost my marbles 😆🤤
I made one in every color of the rainbow just so I could look at him all week long while I finished these ...& I'm in love all over again! They're all ready to go! love me some pedro... only 6 left!
I'm dipping my toes into the world of youtube. Starting with this little, experimental tutorial video. I hope to make more in the near future. Please give it a watch if you can. :)
#ALICEINWONDERLAND #BOOK #DEMOLDING 😊 This #trinketbox mold is so versatile, I can't make these cuties fast enough! 😍 I got a lil air bubble on the corner of the lid, but I'm just gonna cover that baby up with some fancy decorations anyway 😌 Can't wait to finish this! Painting the pages right now, & she's almost ready!

I decided to add a tiny silver Alice pendant necklace as gift, & I'm definitely gonna decorate the inside of the box. Can't wait to finish this!
The cores I use are made of glass so occasionally if they get too hot the glass may crack. The ones I have seen crack had little to no air in the core, and it's more of a cosmetic issue, leaving some cracks I'm the glass that are usually hard to see. The glass is bonded to the resin so it does stay in place even when rolled.
(Note: I have only seen this happen to less than 10 d20s, all around the same time when I tried to get all of the air out)
I now make sure to leave in what I jokingly call the "standard size" bubble, which I think helps because air condenses and glass doesn't.
(I still have yet to actually test this, if only because that would involve intentionally breaking glass which isn't exactly my favorite thing to deal with)
Can they break through and leak?
While I have seen this before on two occasions, I have also made at least 100 of these d20s at this point and I've only seen that happen twice.
Those two cases had something in common: the 1 face was oversanded to the point of the number almost being sanded off, so it was only a thin layer of resin between the glass and the outside.
I kept both of those for that reason, one after it cracked through the resin shell, and one before it started leaking (and on that one I'm still not 100% sure where the leak actually is, I just noticed when my laptop fans heated it up when it was sitting next to it, it kept developing a puddle).
So what if it starts leaking?
In the rare case of a leak, first be assured I only use skin-safe materials in the liquid-cores, so the liquid is one of these or some combination of them: water, vegetable glycerin (which is sold as a moisturizer), or baby oil.
It might be a bit annoying to clean up but it should be perfectly safe. The way they crack and leak seems to be small enough that the decorative materials stay inside.
I coated the one that cracked through with a clear coat nail polish and that seems to be helping the leak. The other one I just keep away from heat as much as I can since I don't know where the leak is.
However, the only cases I've seen leak were from molds of my old master dice. My new master dice have deeper numbers so the core is held more centered and shouldn't be right up against any side like they could be in the past. They are almost perfectly centered, give or take about 2mm.
TL;DR:
Yes it is possible for the glass of the glass cores to crack if the die is exposed to heat, but the most it should do is leave barely-noticeable crack lines in the glass.
I intentionally leave a bubble of air in the die to lessen the chance of this happening.
It has happened rarely in the past that they have cracked to the point of leaking, but that was because of a structural flaw in the dice, of which I now avoid with new molds.
If it by some chance does leak, I only use skin-safe liquids: water, vegetable glycerin, and baby oil. They may be annoying to clean up, but they are perfectly safe.
