Similarities in Hazbin Hotel Pilot and Episode 5, Pt 2

Apparently I missed a couple other, very obvious similarities because I didn't know Alastor's song scene in the Pilot that well at the time of my original post. So here they are, adding to my first post here. If I find more later, I guess I'll make another post.

The other obvious similarity is how Alastor's color palette changes in these songs, with the greatest similarity in color palette between the two episodes coming around 28:28 of the Pilot (and comparison from episode 5 above already).

Given that the Empathy flashbacks in CQL are clearly tinted by NMJ’s bias, with details amplified/downplayed or even outright invented/omitted, the inclusion of JGY’s speech explaining his sociopolitical situation is FASCINATING.

The actual reason is likely Not That Deep; this is when that speech occurs, and the Empathy retelling is the only time we see this interaction in full, so this is where it has to happen. But every Doylist explanation necessitates a corresponding Watsonian explanation, and the Watsonian explanation in this case is that this speech made an IMPRESSION on NMJ. “Did you just pretend to be delicate and poor?” NMJ demands in his memory of the divorce scene, and with the exception of Sexual Tension Torture Time, the other memories all feature JGY insisting that yes!! yes, he was in fact delicate and poor!! and he’s had to make hard choices because of it!!

Whether NMJ fixates on that because he’s 100% convinced that JGY’s always been a liar and is furious that JGY kept claiming victimhood that didn’t exist, or because he’s still grappling with the fact that JGY makes some damn good points and can’t reconcile that with JGY’s actions or NMJ’s own worldview, or because of something else entirely is up to you!

Yesss oh my god she was one of my favourite parts of the series so far, hands down. She's absolutely adorable, hilarious, perceptive, verbally savage yet kind and sweet (asking Obi Wan what's wrong, caring about droids.) Watching her was a delight and I shrieked at some of her sassy lines 😭 Ending careers left and right tbh.

It's amazing for me especially because I used to read fics about !kid Leia when I was younger. I totally had this fascination with the idea of her possibly meeting Vader at some point (when Bail brings her to the Senate or if Vader's sent on some mission to Alderaan and their paths cross) and how that would play out, if she'd remind him of Padmé, if they'd sense each other in the Force, if they'd discover the truth or if she's just this kid Vader inexplicably has a soft spot for. Luke's always been kind of the main hero of the franchise, but I always gravitated more towards Leia and was always curious about what she was up to as a child and all those pre-canon moments we never got to see, so to finally get a live action 10 year old Leia - and to have her interact with Obi Wan!!!!!! - is incredible and I'm so here for it. That little actress is doing a phenomenal job ❤️

someone has already said this but i find it so interesting how alastor's musical numbers are only ever reprises or responses to other characters. in the pilot it was a reprise of charlie's song, in ep 2 it was vox, and now in ep 5 with lucifer—he doesn't instigate fights but he does finish them, which is just SO fascinating

I'm just gonna start by saying if Disney doesn't renue this for a second season they are stupid and will have missed out on a harry Potter level phenomenon.

- LUKE MONOLOGUE HOLYSHIT ITS GIVING GOOD KID REPRISE

- HE IS KIND OF TERRIFYING IN THAT SWORD SCENE THO

- Ares' cackle. I love him .

- Ares just threw him like hulk did loki

- annabeth having to hold Grover back is so important to me because he's wanting to help percy but Annabeth knows this fight is to the death and any interruption would just get Grover killed.

- Annabeth also knowing he needs to prove himself as the son of poseidon and discover who he is.

- "let's kick the son of poseidon into a puddle right near the sea" I now understand why Athena is battle strategy and Ares is just war.

- THAT TSUNAMI JUST PARTING FOR PERCT US ICONIC AND HE JUST RUNS AND SWOOPS AND CUTS ARES

- my only critique is that Percy never does any movements to show its his power (which ik this is accurate to the books) but it comes off a little like he's just calling on Poseidon to do stuff. I wished they had some sort of indicator that it was Percy like maybe a slight movement or having the water pull back from the puddle he fell in and into the sea.

- I did think the fight was a little quick tbh but it still worked.

- the way I screamed "close your eyes close your eyes close your eyes!" When he was about to show his true form.

- The cabin looks fuckung terrifying rn

- I haven't seen the end of credit scene yet but I'm predicting it's going to be Sally with Gabe's statue.

- Aww they finally had father son time. Its so emotional and beautiful and its made me emotional.

- the line of applause and I'm just looking for Travis and Connor.

- The hugging is a thing.

- "an accusation against clarisse." "Without proof" annabeth has a feeling!

- honestly adding Clarisse as a traitor and using that to get Percy and Luke alone makes more sense to me given that they know someone at camp stole the bolt.

- I think now is the time to say how Charlie is amazing for Luke he's so sinister when he wants to be l.

- luke making him go through the Prophecy before he reveals and percy slowly realising why Omg chills.

- the red lighting on Luke highlighting his scar.

- Sally divorcing gabe is much much better than her just turning him to stone because it gives the message that she now recognises her son can look after himself and now she doesn't have to protect him anymore.

- GABE ASKING THE LAWYER HOW TO PICK A LOCK IS SO FUNNY

- I really like how it's his own hate for percy and everything percy has that gets him killed rather than straight up homicide. It really sets the idea that people like that will find their own downfall (which is ironic bc this trope is commonly used in ancient Greek tragedies)

season one of percy jackson is stunning. It's a masterpiece even with the changes and whilst there was definitely some timing issues and the cut to black became annoying, it was very, very good. If it is renewed for another season, it has a lot of potential, and I will be very excited to see how they adapt The Sea of Monsters for screen.

SPOILERS for Hazbin Hotel Ep. 7-8

What I suspected with Lucifer’s reaction was true; most demons just don’t know exorcist features well enough to recognize an angel without wings.

Also, I have wondered because Vaggie and Carmilla look similar - is Carmilla also an angel? Her eyes and facial features especially made me wonder, and may explain her gathering up of weapons and refusal to start a war.

It was cool to see these two have another duet, this time face-to-face. It matched the theme of protecting who they loved, and without being a reprise!

And now… the big stuff!

Alastor unhinged! Loved his lack of voice when his cane broke, and his reaction. But ooooh boy, I really fear for Charlie with his meltdown. Her favor’s going to be devastating with how Alastor is taking his almost death. Also due to a note below, maybe he isn’t owned by Lilith after all.

Imagine still arguing 10,000 years later over your ex-wife (and maybe ex-wife to both?). Love the little white auras around them.

Short Duck Daddy better make good on all the caviar mountains promised! All the revamps and coverage is about to make this place lit.

Because.

Congrats, Sir Pentious! An excellent run as a lovable, ascended extra. I hope we get more of him though!

I mean, I’m hoping between seasons this is reported on like crazy. The hotel took on Heaven, sent them packing, got a giant update, AND Charlie’s redemption theory is true?! What sinner wouldn’t want that?

A few interesting implications so far:

A sinner can only go to Heaven upon a death in Hell, aka judgement only occurs at death. This makes it analogous to the situation people on Earth face.

Death via a noble cause is what grants you entrance to Heaven. This could be another way some questionable people end up there

Angels and demons may be the same race, only affected by the respective environment in terms of powers. Sir Pentious has very minor changes when we see him redeemed.

Death in the afterlife is not the end if you now qualify for the opposite team?! A crazy loophole if this is true.

Who is excited to see Adam, who died, rejudged to Hell since he died again? Bonus points if he is in the hotel or cavorting with the BIG baddies in Season 2.

And Emily is the cutest thing ahshsjaisd

This will be fun to see progress. I wonder if we’ll get to see God or a big good in this series. Also, maybe Emily is Eve? Idk there’s so many possibilities and we really could have had 20 more episodes.

Finally, Adam had a deal with…

Lilith?! And Lute’s going to be first in command of the exorcists now.

Also, we don’t actually know where this lovely beach is. It feels to me like a private beach, in-between Heaven and Hell, tucked away in an inconspicuous corner that was always there.

So, did Lilith leave Lucifer for Adam? Maybe she decided that our depressed duck demon was too much and at least gritting her teeth and being by Adam’s side was productive? I expected Lilith to show up, but not with Lute knowing about a deal she made.

Now to hunker down and await Season 2! Vivienne and Co., it’s been an honor to analyze and theorize with all the fun goodies. Thank you for making this dream come true and sharing it!
