scar isn't a particularly spiteful individual. he usually stays by the words of "live and let live" unless he felt as if he was wronged.

he does think it's justified to think that his soulmate (who very clearly didn't want to be soulmates with him. he's not stupid, just a bit slow) going behind his back to be a homewrecker and become secret soulmates with someone (who he eventually found to be bigb) can reasonably go into the category of "wronged." it was as if grian forgot that they share pain, because bigb was clearly a biter. so naturally, his conclusion is to go find ren to see his thoughts on the matter. after some placating, and a few promises he will debatably keep, they become secret soulmates he learns very quickly that spite isn't the main motivating factor anymore. (though the scowls from grain that are sent his way are very funny)

It goes from spite to the mutual understanding of two people who have been hurt, to... Something else. Something that they'd like to keep, even once the game is over.

BigB and Grian can enjoy their passing fancy. But Ren and Scar aren't even going to be secret anymore. This is them - collecting trinkets together and plotting murder.

“Did you like your classes?” Jamie asked.

Sophie’s frown changed from being annoyed at him, to being annoyed in general. “It was fine,” she shrugged, giving him her juicebox; she’d never been a fan of the taste, and it meant Jamie could get two boxes every day. “All the other kids kept staring at me…” 

Jamie let out a sigh. “Me too. Just ignore them for now. They’ll get bored eventually and leave us alone.”

Just to prove him wrong, a thud came from across the table as someone slammed down their tray. 

Flinching, Jamie tried not to cower at the group of kids suddenly towering over them. At the front, like some sort of pack-leader, was a girl in a beanie whose face was doing a strange impression of a creepy sales clerk. 

Jamie inched closer to Sophie. Hopefully, this school did bullying the modern way; through the internet, and not through good old-fashioned roughhousing at the back of the bleachers.

Sometimes I think about how Grian never left the desert.

Or how Scar moved on relatively quickly to the magical mountain, but then didn't leave that place. Didn't, move on, feeling lonelier than ever and Grian missing a version of the scar that is long gone.

How Martyn never left Evo, never left Dogwards either. How he's stuck in two places at the same time.

But Ren moved on. He thinks about Matryn sometimes, but he moved on.

How Tango wants to leave the ranch out of bitterness and bc "that right", "because he should" but isn't able to.

When Ren and Doc first met, they thought they were gonna just be the best of friends.

Slowly, however, they both slowly developed feelings for one another...and while Doc is more stoic and didn't quite feel the need to confess his crush so quickly, Ren was confident enough to confess almost immediately, bringing Doc a bouquet of flowers and asking him out

Ren actually worked really really hard to hold off on his confession. He wanted to at least see a possible sign Doc might like him back. And waiting - even that much - felt impossible! His tail started wagging wildly every time Doc was around, he felt like such a goof hiding it.

Then it turns out (after waiting such a long time - a week) that Doc had been crushing on him for even longer! Ren doesn't know how he did it. Not having a traitorous tail may help...
