So... so you're just admitting you tried to Love and Kindness the abuse away?? You did that??? You think it's BAD to fight back against someone who is BEATING YOU?

Or does that mean, "we never demanded better treatment or justice. We just waited for our abusers to realize the error of their ways, like good victims."

what I love about the Ushers is, yes, some of them didn’t deserve it. Leo was just any drug addicted asshole who treats the people around him like shit but he clearly cared about his family even when they hated him and he grew up around drugs and addiction. Tammy was emotionally and verbally cruel to Bill and coerced him into a life he didn’t want but she did love him no matter how hard she tried to hide it and she wanted to be a better person. Lenore was just a girl who hoped for a kinder world for her mother and herself, who did nothing wrong but trust in her grandfather. That’s the point. Some of the children are horrible and violent and unkind and some of them are just people, messy, disturbed people. They deserved a chance just like anyone else. But they don’t get one. When somebody gambles your life before it begins, before you’re even conceived, you lose. When we let the rich and the powerful play God and do awful things, the poison seeps all the way down. Even to the good ones. Even to ones who could have been good. Nobody ever wins.

Jamie, a victim of abuse, reaching out to his father, the abuser - not to make his father feel better but as a way to heal himself… I’m gonna cry.

Sure, it might be the worst fucking idea in the world, it might have terrible repercussions and his dad will almost 100% never change but Jamie doing all that for HIMSELF?? To make it easier for himself to move on with his life.

Haven’t known exactly how to articulate this but it truly bothers me that the audience is supposed to buy into Ted’s narrative about Jamie’s dad and not Georgie’s.

Like. Ted is missing so much context about Jamie’s upbringing. He genuinely doesn’t know shit. His perception of James is entirely based upon a couple of vague anecdotes from Jamie, two impersonal encounters with the man, and (most of all) projections of his relationship with his own parents + his insecurities about being a bad father (even though neither he nor his parents are anything like James and the situations aren’t remotely comparable). God love him, he absolutely doesn’t get it!!!

Georgie, on the other hand, has personally, intimately known James for decades, and she knows him as a horrible man who does horrible things to her baby (and almost definitely to her as well) time and time again. She knows from actual experience that James is inconsistent and doesn’t keep his word. She knows that he’s a destructive force in Jamie’s life. She knows that he promises to change and then doesn’t. She knows that he’s the type of man to force his way back into their lives, promise to be a better father, bring her little boy on a big exciting father/son bonding trip to Amsterdam, and somehow fuck it up so completely that he refuses to talk about it and is never really the same again.

So she says to Jamie, your father is who he is, he’s never going to change, and it’s okay to give up on him and move on and make peace with life without him.

And apparently, she’s fucking wrong! She’s wrong about him, and he IS going to change! She doesn’t understand the man who abused her for twenty years like Ted does, because she’s a cynic who hasn’t been wised to The Lasso Way! The REAL wisdom is that hurt people hurt people!!!! Get this toerag back into Jamie’s life!!!!!

It just seems like such a disservice to this character and everything she’s been through and her relationship with Jamie for her to be wrong and Ted to be right and Jamie to ignore her and pursue a relationship with his father. Give me a break

My least favorite take is that the story of Jamie’s dad is about substance abuse. It’s not. Addiction is a disease. At least in the US it’s classified as substance use disorder. And it’s a treatable condition that should be viewed as a public health matter and not a moral matter.

But that’s not the issue with James Tartt, Sr. The issue with James is that he’s abusive — physically, emotionally, and sexually — towards Jamie. Now, maybe that is exacerbated by substance use, particularly alcohol. But that doesn’t fully explain or excuse behavior.

And again, I believe that people can change. No matter how old they are or what horrible things they’ve done. And I believe that *societally* those people deserve second chances. But believing both of those things doesn’t require that the the *individual* they harmed extend forgiveness. Those are complex and individual choices.

The show implies that James Tartt Sr. is in rehab. And I think that’s great. People should absolutely get the medical treatment they need (AA isn’t evidence based, btw, but that’s a discussion for another day). But getting treatment for substance use disorder doesn’t automatically fix the behaviors he engaged in, even while under the influence. And me saying that doesn’t mean I’m demonizing people with substance use disorder.

I wanted to share this. This is my boyfriend, best friend, the love of my life, my world Justice. He’s struggled so much in his childhood and his adult life. He’s been kicked out of his home before, neglected, abused, ignored, treated like garbage and much more… his own parents have called the police on him… put him in jail before… Justice has fought substance abuse, and probably been on every drug known to man….. the picture of him on the left was him before.. 2020.. he was so depressed and the drugs were causing him to lose so much weight, motivation, and spirit in his eyes. He was almost down to 89 lbs……

The picture on the right is Justice now. :) he’s fought so hard, he’s gotten off drugs, he’s fought and fought to say no to addiction now. He’s had withdrawals, and gotten physically sick for days on end . Today he is 205 lbs, muscle, smiling more, laughing everyday, and he is definitely treated like a king!

Sometimes- it’s not about having someone who’s “already self made” sometimes you fall in love with those who need just a little help, a little more love, and more reassurance! Don’t give up on those who may struggle….. Justice went through it and now he’s doing amazing. I’m so proud of him!!!!! I wanted to share his before and after with tumblr!

Justice is currently getting a letter of recommendation written for him to go down south and is waiting to be accepted into the Phoenix House in Tampa! He is someone who has struggled with drug abuse since 2013… this will be his year to finally turn his life around and get his head back on right! He is ready for his journey to get his life together and having a second chance in life! I am so proud of him!!

Todoroki watching as Lambo wonders into kitchen while Tsuna makes them both tea.

Todoroki freezing when the kid tugs a bit too hard on Tsuna’s shirt and the kettle drops twords his face.

Him only feeling capable of moving well after Tsuna lit his hand on fire and slapped the kettle into the wall and away from Lambo who’s now attempting to climb up Tsuna’s back, seemingly unaware of what could have happened

It happens so fast.

It’s weird to think that when the memory of the “incident” that caused his own scar seems to be etched in his mind in agonizingly slow motion, but in reality it only takes a handful of seconds from start to finish.

Tsuna was laughing as he makes tea for the both of them, respectfully across the room after he had caught the wince Shouto couldn’t hide the last time the kettle came to close to him, he had been telling some story about their family when Lambo came in whining about how he was hungry and wanted a snack.

A little hand threaded in the back of Tsuna’s shirt, yanking hard and pulling him off balance.

The hand holding the kettle slipped.

For one impossible second it seemed to hang there tipping towards Lambo’s unsuspecting face. Shouto could feel the heat of his own face. Could hear screams in his ears. Could remember the scent of his skin burning.

Then a hand covered in orange flames was batting it aside so hard that it was half embedded in the wall on the far side of the kitchen.

Tsuna’s eyes, more orange than brown with his quirk, were wide as he scooped Lambo up, holding the oblivious and squirming child close with a shaky breath.

“God, Lambo haven’t we told you not to play around by the stove!?” Tsuna’s voice cracked with the stress.

Lambo blinked. Eyes as wide and clueless as the cows he loved to dress as. “I forgot.”

Shouto dropped his head into his hands and let out a sound that even he wasn’t sure was a laugh or a sob. An arm was around his shoulders a moment later, with Tsuna’s warmth pressed against his side and Lambo’s squirming and unhurt body pressed between them as he wined about weird older brothers having cooties.

Finally, Shouto realized what he had been missing for all of these years in his father house with the ghost of of his brother haunting every room and phantom pains plaguing him every time he walked by the kitchen.

He had been missing a home.

How do you know about glass children?!? It's like you go out of your way to incorporate and see disabled people and it's so nice to be seen!

I actually didn't until someone asked me if that's what I was doing with Bumblestripe and Blossomfall! I just. perfectly wrote the dynamics and feelings associated with Glass Children for B&B and learned there was a name for it LMAO

I'm interested in types of abuse and dynamics within families, how pain passes down between generations. I write a lot about it and like to listen to people's experiences. It's complex and nuanced, but somehow, it's all similar. Pain isn't that different between people-- how they react to it is.

People say, "Listen to disabled people/abusive victims/marginalized persons" and I think some folks don't know what that means. What that means is; seek out people's individual experiences and learn how they describe their own lives, in their own terms. How they interact with their family, what annoys them, the language they wished people used, day to day tricks that make their lives easier.

For Jayfeather I just did a lot of that. Took people's input on how to do the warrior training arc, what they wish was more common in these stories, and what to avoid.

And for how his relationship is to Brambleclaw... well, honestly, Brambleclaw is my special boodle boy and no one understands him like I do✨✨ This man is a terrible father and a toxic mate✨✨✨He never should have had power over kits or Clans and Bad Bramble Dad is actually incredibly interesting as a continuation of the TNP characterization and segways nicely into the sorts of bad choices he makes as a leader✨✨✨✨✨

That man plays favorites with his children just like his own dad did, lathering affection on whoever pleases him most, he is incapable of doing an accurate self-reflection because the idea that he might actually, truly be like his own father is so painful that he can't confront the idea and becomes defensive at the very thought ✨✨✨

#Jokes aside I really don't mean shade to the majority of the fandom that would have preferred Bramble be unproblematic #In fact I agree he's absolutely unrecognizable from his TPB characterization #but also. Bramble's abuse is actually profoundly interesting. The way he's petty and can't handle the idea of losing control #And GOOD GODS it's so rare to see people hit the sweet spot #People either make him an inhuman monster or remove the abuse entirely and like... I get people wanting to rehab their comfort character #Or create a huge villain to be cathartically torn down #but i am a fucking Obelisk. 38 hours clean from drugs. i wish people wouldn't romanticise addiction. ive been sat here for nearly 2 days unable to do anything but puke and have the shits, ive had 3 hours sleep because of insomnia and one minute im going from freezing and sweaty to burning alive and goosebumps. my head hurts and the lights too bright for my eyes, my stomach kills and my body feels stiff and sore. i can't eat and im struggling to stay hydrated, my hearts palpatating and all the noises seem so distant and muffled. my body won't stop shaking and i have big bags under my eyes, ive got spots popping up and i constantly need the toilet. it's been one of the hardest things ive ever gone through, ironically it feels like when i overdosed, but i wouldn't change it for the world. within a few weeks all my physical symptoms will be gone and ill be left to heal from the psychological problems my addiction and withdrawal have caused me.

been avoiding thinking about ted lasso bc of the disappointment i felt with the final season but wriggle up on dry land has brought the brainrot back full force and i just remembered how jamied dad literally tried to. Murder coach beard. Like maybe thats being dramatic but that was an insane dark scene especially him calling beard “son” just a few hours after beard stopped him from pummeling his own son and it has only reinvigorated my hatred for how season 3 handled everything regarding jamie and his dad and forgiveness across the board in general. Anyway sorry to rant in your inbox but this is all to say that i LOVE your fics and reading them always makes me feel better about this flop season
