Bass Player- Reggie Peters
Tumblr media
A/n: You wrote a song for someone, but you kept it secret from everyone cause you didn’t want them to tease you. But Luke found it and showed everyone else.
Well, I may have changed some things about it so it’s not really like this description. Also I didn't know how to end it so I really hope the ending is good.
Song: Pierra
Written: Ryn Weaver
  -Samantha
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your POV
I was sitting in the studio writing my song that made me think of my crush. I know that I could never go out with him being a ghost, so I thought that I would write a song.
‘I danced in the desert, in the pouring rain,
Dark with the devil and forgot my name,
Woke with somebody when the morning came,
No one there to shame me for my youth,
‘Cause I wouldn’t be with you.’
After writing those lyrics down I started thinking of another verse. Before I knew it my hand started writing out my next verse.
‘ And then I found me a lover who could play the bass,
He’s kind of quiet, but his body ain’t…’
Before I could finish writing I heard the boys talking among themselves. I quickly hid my papers and then started just tapping random notes on the piano.
“ Hey Y/n/n.” Alex shouted
I let out a small laugh and said…
“ Hi.”
Luke came over and sat next to me. He just kept his eyes on me like he knew something, I don’t know which got me really curious.
So I stopped playing the piano and gave him my full attention. All he did was just give me a huge smile. I made a confused face, which just got a laugh out of him and the other two.
“ What.” I asked
Luke then looked over at Reggie and Alex. I groaned over them and I then let out an annoyed sigh.
“ Luke, come on! Tell me!.” I said kind of whining
He looked back over at me and opened his mouth.
“ Who’s the song for?”
I looked confused. “ What song?”
He rolled his eyes and played the melody that I was playing. I tried not to be nervous because then they all could tell I would be lying.
“ Um…it’s for no one. Why would you think it would be for someone?”
I looked at all of them and they all shrugged their shoulders.
“ No reason.” Luke states
I just gave him a smile, before saying…
“ Well could I finish my song in some peace then please.”
All of them nodded and headed out the door.
Luke’s POV
Once the boys and I were outside I stopped walking because I wanted to hear more of the song.
“ Dude!” Alex whispered shouted at me
I looked over at him. “ What?” I whispered
He did the ‘come over here’ motion with his hand. I mentally groaned and walked over to them.
“ We are not spying on her!” He told me
I frowned…” But I think I know who the song is about.”
He rolled his eyes while Reggie just looked really confused.
“ Who’s the song about Luke?”
I stopped paying attention to Alex and looked at Reggie I then smirked and winked at him.
“ You.” I said
Reggie looked shocked. “ Me.” he said pointing to himself
I smiled and nodded while Alex patted his back. He then raced over to the doors quietly to listen to the song.
Alex groaned, but followed us over to listen.
Your POV
I watched them walk out the doors to make sure they actually left before going back into my writing.
‘Says he can’t believe he found me,
Wraps his arms around me,
Yeah-eah, eah-eah-eah-yeah,
I can’t let him in,
You call me up and ask me how I’ve been,
I’ll call your bluff and,
Keep on telling, telling, telling you lies,
Keep on telling, telling, telling you lies,
No, I can’t let him in,
You play me rough, but I won’t let you win,
So, call my bluff, I’ll-’
Right when I was going to write another line I heard a car door slam. So I thought ‘Julie must be home’ Right after I thought of that she walked in the studio.
“ Hey Y/n/n! What are you working on?” She asked
I smiled, “ A song.” I respond
She got all happy and asked if she could hear it. I smiled and nodded my head cause I could never say no to her.
I played the song from the top to right where I stopped. I then glanced up at her. She had a huge smile on her face.
“ Oh no!” I said
She looked concerned…
“ What?”
“ Not you too!” I exclaimed
She let out a small giggle, “ Did the guys come in here to bother you.”
I nodded, which made her laugh more. Once she calmed down she asked…
“ Okay, but hear me out. Is this song about Reg-” I cut her off with a nod
She squealed and started gushing about me and Reggie. “ Awe! That’s so cute!”
Reggie's POV
After we saw Julie walk in the studio we headed back over to see what was going on. Right when we got there we all heard the last word Julie said…
“ Song about Reg-”
I looked at both Luke and Alex with wide eyes. Luke smiled and slapped my back gently. Alex made a go get your girl while Luke was trying to push me closer to the door. I was standing right in front of the door. I got nervous about talking to Y/n. I don’t know why I am. But once I got the confidence to knock to let them know that I was coming in.
I heard a “ come in” from both of them
I tried my best to not be nervous while making my way over to them.
“ Hey guys.” I said
Julie smiled at me while Y/n avoided my eyes. I frowned and asked…
“ Um…Julie, could you give us some space.”
She nodded and walked kind of fast. Once she was out the door I grew the courage to ask…
“ So..um. You wrote a song about me.”
She shyly nodded her head. I couldn’t help the smile on my face.
“ The song is so amazing. I’ve never had someone write me a song before.”
She finally glanced at me. “ Thank you.” She said softly
“ Um…can I hear it?” I asked
She patted the seat next to her and joined her on the bench. And so begins and it made me fall in love with her even more.
Random headcanon that I’ve had for a while: Reggie wrote the “hello Bobby” on Bobby/Trevor’s mirror.
We know Luke’s handwriting. It’s all over the place, it’s a scribbly illegible mess, given the many comments by the whole group and seeing his handwriting in Unsaid Emily.
We also see Alex’s in Stand Tall, and it’s pretty neat actually- and besides that he definitely has the neatest handwriting of the group. (Julie’s is probably pretty nice too though-)
Anyway, we never see Reggie’s and I’d like to think it’s messy but still readable, hence why I think he wrote on the mirror.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
BABE FOR THE WEEKEND reggie peters
author's note giggle giggle i loooove reggie peters
word count 0.4k
warnings fem!reader, fake dating, this is set in the 90s giggle giggle
ᥫ᭡ little romantic gestures ; trying to cook their favorite dish + pulling them in the warmest hugs
Tumblr media
"reggie is something burning?" you ask. dropping your bag on the couch, you made your way into the shared tiny kitchen in the apartment that you, reggie, alex, and luke shared. seeing that the only pair of shoes on the living room carpet were reggie's, you assumed luke and alex were at work.
"no!! everything's fine," he yells.
"see, when you say 'everything's fine' its not reassuring." reggie stands in the middle of the kitchen holding a smoking pot, a panicked expression on his face.
"heyyyy." he drags out the word. "how are youuuuu?" he quickly tosses the contents of the pot into the sink. immediately making your way over to the sink, you peer in.
reggie picks you up by the waist and lifts you up into the air and away from the sink.
"how the hell do you burn spaghetti?" you laugh. reggie puts you down and smiles awkwardly.
"i was trying to make your favorite," he offers, pointing to the canned sauce on the scratched counter.
"why?" you ask. reggie cannot cook for the life of him. alex literally put up a sign (a sticky note on the fridge) saying he wasn't allowed to do anything more than microwave leftovers.
"i... have a favor to ask you," he starts. you groan and roll your eyes.
"this can't be good."
"no, no i swear it's not as bad as you think. its like super simple, please," he says.
"can't you ask luke or alex?" you say, going to the dishwasher to grab a (probably) clean glass. you fill it u with water as reggie follows you around the small space like a puppy dog.
"no. it has to be you," he deadpans. you turn and lift the now-full glass to your lips, gesturing for him to get on with it. "ineedyoutopretendtobemygirlfriendfortheweekendprettyprettyplease," he blurts out, face turning scarlet.
"hold on. say that all again, slowly." you finish off your glass and put it into the sink, next to the blackened spaghetti strands.
"i need you to.. pretend. to, uh, be my girlfriend?" upon seeing your expression, reggie adds, "just for the weekend! please! bobby's been on my ass about not having one and i really just wanna wipe that smirk off his fake-vegetarian fa—"
you cut him off. "sure."
"sure?" his face splits into the widest grin. he grabs you by the shoulders and pulls you into the warmest hug you've ever received, even surpassing the one alex gave you when he had the flu and a fever higher than everest. "you're seriously the best, y/n."
"hey, hey! only for the weekend!" you laugh into his worn flannel as he lifts you off your feet and spins you around.
"i love you! you're amazing," he says, putting you down and running out of the room, the biggest smile on his adorable face.
you look down at the burnt spaghetti in the sink. "i love you too, reg," you murmur.
You cannot convince me that these boys were "cool". Were they the bottom of the social hierarchy? Probably/maybe not. But they absolutely were not cool kids. At least not within their school.
if this doesn't scream boggie, i don't know what does: They smell like sparkles and sunshine and I want to kiss their stupid face so bad
Bobby slammed the apartment door behind him, heading straight for the couch. He didn't slow down until he was flat on his stomach, his burning cheeks hidden by a Gayosaurus throw pillow ("Like a normal gay, but more awesome!") that Willie had found somewhere six months ago. Bobby wasn't ever sure where he found this sort of thing. He'd given up on asking when they were still in college, the two of them and Alex randomly paired up in a freshman dorm.
"What happened here?" the previously mentioned pillow finder said from somewhere above Bobby.
The soft click of Alex closing their front door properly was followed by the drummer's sigh of, "Reggie, what else."
Bobby felt the couch dip near his feet as probably Willie sat down. "You wanna talk about it, dude?" they asked. Bobby couldn't decide if their tone was sympathetic or teasing.
"No," he mumbled into the pillow.
Look, dating your bandmates didn't work out well. Reggie and Luke had been together for a bit when they were all in college and it had burned hot and fast. Bobby had been sure the band would break up for good when they called it quits. It had taken a whole new person, Luke's now queerplatonic partner and their band frontwoman Julie, to get the two of them to talk it out and become friends again. Even then, it had been a rough couple of months for all of them.
So, no matter how pretty Reggie was or how sometimes Bobby thought he leaned a bit closer to their shared mic than necessary, they couldn't be a thing. It wouldn't work.
"Dude, you can't just keep ignoring it and hope it goes away," Alex sighed, now sounding much closer. "Remember how I tried that and it failed? Epicly?"
Bobby lifted his head just enough to shoot Alex a glare. "That's not the same thing," he protested. "No offense, Willie."
"None taken," they chuckled. "But Lex has a point. Shoving it down doesn't work, and it might just turn out better than you think."
Bobby dropped his face back down to the pillow and flipped them both off. "No."
He felt a foot nudging his shoulder, indicating that Alex had found his perch on the back of the couch above him. "Bobby, Reggie likes you back, you guys just have to get your acts together and talk about it."
"Hypocrite," Bobby mumbled. But he groaned and rolled onto his side, glancing up at his roommates and best friends. Maybe talking it out would help erase his stupid crush on his bandmate. "I know he maybe thinks I'm cute or whatever, but it wouldn't work. The band almost broke up when Luke and Reggie did, and I can't be responsible for doing that to you guys. I just can't."
"Okay, I get that," Alex began. "But what makes you so sure the two of you wouldn't work? I mean yeah, Luke and him didn't go so well, but there were a lot of reasons for that."
"Very much including the fact that they were 19 and neither of them had actually been in a serious relationship before," Willie added. "And I love them both, but their communication skills aren't the best now, let alone two years ago."
"You and Reg are good for each other," Alex continued, giving Bobby that heavy, open stare that he usually masked behind several layers of sarcasm. "He gets you out of your routine and trying new things. You help him slow down and talk things out."
"You're both better people for being around each other," Willie agreed, one hand resting on Bobby's ankle. Then the corner of his mouth quirks up. "Not to mention the fact that you guys practically make out at the mic every other song."
"We do not!" Bobby insisted, forcing himself up on one elbow. "Mic sharing is totally normal."
"Mic sharing, yes. But you two take the phrase 'eat the mic' a little too literally," Alex laughed. Then his amusement faded. "But seriously. You like him. He likes you. And we're all semi-functioning adults who can at least pretend to be emotionally mature. At least talk to him."
"Even if you decide not to give it a shot, at least you'll have been honest with each other," Willie said.
"But what if it messes everything up?" Bobby asked, hating how small his voice sounded. "I mean, yeah, he smells like sparkles and sunshine and I wanna kiss his stupid face so bad, but I don't want it to destroy the band. Or our whole... family."
Willie's expression is now solidly in the sympathetic zone. "But what if it makes it better?" they countered. "I mean, Lex and I were great as friends, and we're better as partners, and we're both better friends to the rest of you because of being together."
The smile Alex gave them for that is enough to make Bobby fake gag and throw the Gayosaurus pillow at them. But... maybe they're right.
"Hug time?" Alex questioned.
Bobby just nodded, suddenly feeling heavy at the possibility of having Reggie as something other than a bandmate. But heavy in a good way, like crawling under his weighted blanket at the end of a long day.
Alex dropped down onto the couch beside him, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and pulling him in. Bobby let Willie resituate both of their legs on his lap. He usually wasn't one for being manhandled by his friends, but it was nice to let them take care of him every once in a while. He tried to focus on the clean and salty scent of Alex's hoodie and the easy movement of Willie's thumb on his ankle.
Maybe, just maybe, they had a point. At the very least, he owed it to Reggie to let him be a part of the conversation, right? Bobby let out a soft sigh. This meant he'd have to actually have a conversation about it with the bassist. But he was getting better at those at least. It was 'healthy' or something. Maybe it would be okay. Maybe they would be okay.
"So..." Willie mused after a while, "what do sparkles and sunshine smell like?"
"Screw you," Bobby groaned, hiding his face in Alex's chest.
uhm... 👉👈 Ray hitman AU? maybe? if you were up for it? pretty pretty please? 🙏
-For those who don't know I made a shitpost about Ray being a hitman because I looked up housing prices in Los Feliz (and how medical debt works) and SIR HOW THE HELL DO YOU AFFORD THAT HOUSE ON A PHOTOGRAPHER'S SALARY.
-It starts when one of the Petal Pushers has a very abusive, stalker ex. She had tried everything, but even with a restraining order, it isn't enough. Law enforcement just shrugs and suggests she moves (again) after 'someone' breaks into her house, ransacks it and kills her cat.
-It's not like Rose and Ray meant to kill him. But it's what happens. They manage to make it look like an accident. They never tell Violet, but deep down she knows.
-Somehow word gets around and they suddenly have a booming side hustle of taking out abusive spouses, partners, exes, stalkers, etc.
-Ray starts to take on the most of the wet work, with Rose doing the research and being his alibi.
-He's always been a great shot. He won Rose so many stuffed animals at carnival shooting games that they had to start donating them to shelters.
-They do have very strict rules on who they work with and who their targets are. Ray gets very good at stalking people with a giant long distance tele-lens. Both the people who hire them (to make sure they're telling the truth) and the targets.
-The prices they charge vary, and they even have perfected the scheme of 'take out life insurance on him and we get half of the pay out' for people who are in a bad financial situation. Those are trickier because he has to make the deaths look like an accident.
-Listen I'm not saying a few of the plants in Rose's Plant Wall in the studio are toxic. Of course they aren't, they have children running around in there.
-The ones under the grow-light in the attic though....
-He tells everyone he's a photographer but really, he only knows how to work the tele-lens. Rose jokes he could become the world's greatest paparazzi if he wanted to.
-Rarely does he get up close and personal with the targets, but he did made an exception once when 'My Ex Is An Abusive Scumbag number 87' really, really wanted Ray to know the client was right by going after his kid from his first marriage, because his favourite target (their client) wasn't there to take his rage out on.
-He starts hitting the gym after that because it was a liiiiittle too close for comfort.
-As spoken by @floating-in-the-blue: THAT'S WHY HE'S SO FIRM.
-They buy a big house and have money to send the kids to summer camp and fancy music school and the likes. When people ask he just smiles and shrugs and said he signed an NDA so he can't talk about most of his Big Photography Clients.
-Carlos and Julie think their dad is the biggest goober and he totally is. He forgets where he put his phone because he's too busy with the 700 other details of his job. He can tell if any of the parts of his work-toolbox have been moved even a millimeter.
-Just imagine Reggie like: wow Ray really does a lot of research about his photography clients, I wonder if it's like an engagement shoot or something.
-IT WAS NOT AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT. There was a shooting, though.
-He's a little shell-shocked but still follows Ray down to where he meets the client to promise her it's done, and she cries and tells him thank you and mentions some of the awful things the guy has done or threatened to do, and then he gets it.
-They stage it to look like a break-in gone wrong. Reggie helps knock some shit over when they're distracted like: he's a ghost there are no finger prints. He stays after Ray leaves and watches the woman 'come home' and call the cops. She's either a really good actress, or the tears are just more tears of relief.
-He's really, really glad the abusive guy didn't come back as a ghost though, that would have been so awkward.
-Reggie decides that Julie can never, ever know.
It’s 🎵Exchange Day!!! 🎵
@jatpfebfanfest thanks for letting me be a part of something so cool!!
@locketletters I hope you like it. It was super fun to write. I’ve read lots of stuff with the sunset curve polycule but hadn’t tried to write anything until this one. It ended up being a little more Luke centered than Alex but I hope you still like it!! I’m sorry it’s so short, I’ve had a lot going on.
I give you…
Distractions:
They’d been practicing for almost four hours when Reggie finally flopped onto the couch with a dramatic sigh.
“ Luke, babe, I love you but if we haven’t gotten it yet then it’s just not gonna happen tonight. I’m so tired.”
Luke pouted and protested as if he wasn’t about to fall asleep himself. Reggie looked to Bobby and Alex behind their boyfriend for help. He got a silent matching nod from them both.
“ I wanna cuddle and watch Star Wars and eat pizza.” Reggie whined hoping to entice Luke’s attention away from his guitar and song book long enough for the others to take them away.
Apparently the promise of food and physical affection was enough to temporarily perk his ears up and Reggie reached toward him from his position on the couch with grabby hands. Luke stood, going to plant a quick kiss on Reggie’s cheek and in his moment of distraction set his guitar to the side. Bobby quickly snatched it up and Alex closed the song book.
Reggie did his part by pulling Luke down on top of him on the couch, deepening the kiss. The lead singer practically melted into it for a moment when Reggie’s nimble fingers pulled his orange beanie off to entangle themselves in his hair and pull gently. Luke hummed in contentment before pulling back.
“ I just wanna run this part one more time and then we can stop for the ni- where’s my guitar?” He cut himself off looking around to meet Bobby’s smirk. Reggie giggled from his place on the couch and Luke turned back to him looking betrayed.
“ You tricked me, that wasn’t fair.”
The bass player didn’t even have the decency to look ashamed.
“ Sorry Lu,” Alex piped up from the loft, waving the captured guitar and songbook at him with a smile, “ but we’re all tired and hungry, including you, and you’ve said one more time 14 times already.”
“ You’re the worst,” Luke pouted some more, though there was no bite to his words. As if to punctuate his sentence and prove him wrong his stomach growled loudly.
Bobby shot him a look, hands on his hips.
“ Fine,” Luke finally conceded, sighing and throwing himself unceremoniously onto the couch next to Reggie. He leaned over onto Reg’s shoulder and stared up at him until pretty green eyes rolled fondly at him and the fingers found their way back to his hair to begin gently massaging his scalp.
“ Call me unfair and then pull out the puppy dog eyes that I taught you,” Reg scoffed but didn’t stop either. Alex sat down on Luke’s other side, smiling fondly when he automatically grabbed his hand and interlaced their fingers.
Bobby chuckled, crossing the room to give the blond a quick peck.
“ Lexie, good work love,” he said, “ You too darlin’.” He added to Reggie, who perked up at the praise. “ I’m gonna go order the pizza and pop some popcorn. Somebody set up the VHS player.”
***
30 minutes later they were all cuddled up on the couch, stuffing their faces with pizza and popcorn and listening to Reggie quote along with Empire Strikes Back.
Luke took a swig of his soda and absentmindedly started singing the new song under his breath.
“ Oh my God Patterson! Shut up!” Bobby said, laughing as he shoved a piece of pizza into the other boy’s mouth.
Luke chewed it annoyedly, curling further into Alex’s side. Lex took over playing with Luke’s hair as he munched on his popcorn.
“ It is a really cool song though babe,” he said and Luke automatically relaxed, his eyes slipping closed at Alex’s gentle tugging on his hair. “ We’ll keep working tomorrow, for now let’s just enjoy the night.”
He didn’t get a response because Luke was already asleep. Alex smiled, pressing a kiss into his soft brown curls.
“ Goodnight Rockstar.”
AU for five headcanons: haunted walking tour au!
Oooh this one is so fun! I love haunted walking tours so much and this ended up as way more than 5 headcanons but i regret nothing
— So one of the many attractions at the Hollywood Ghost Club is a haunted walking tour through the hotel and the surrounding area. Willie, being the owner’s kid, has worked there since they were old enough to work and is now the club’s most highly reviewed and requested tour guide.
— The demand for tours always spikes around Halloween, so they hire seasonal workers to work as tour guides and as ghost actors to jump out and scare the guests. Alex, Luke, and Reggie join as a way to make some extra money to record their demo.
-- It very quickly becomes apparent that only Alex and Reggie have the charisma needed to be tour guides; Luke gets relegated to ghost actor because he has no idea how to talk to the guests in a professional manner and also keeps forgetting the stories he's supposed to be telling.
-- This leaves Willie in charge of training the two very cute new tour guides. Reggie doesn't need much training though, he very quickly starts to rival Willie in popularity among the guests. Alex takes a little longer to warm up to it, almost seems embarrassed about the job, but once he gets into character on the tours he's really good at it and it's so hot really impressive to Willie.
-- He keeps telling himself not to get too attached though, they keep telling him that they're only working there for the season, and he's like 98% sure Alex and Reggie are already dating.
-- Meanwhile Luke keeps himself entertained by coming up with new and extreme ways to scare the guests (within reason). One day Julie and Flynn come in for a tour and Luke scares them so bad that Julie goes running all the way back through the hotel, screaming the whole way. Luke chases after her because holy shit do you hear that breath control this girl must be an insane singer which only makes her scream longer. Once he finally manages to calm her down (with the help of Reggie, who's leading her tour) he asks her to join the band and she's so bewildered that she says yes on instinct. And thus Julie and the Phantoms is born!
-- A few days later Bobby and Nick come in for a tour (maybe dragging Carrie along with them but only because she likes the glamour of the HGC), and when Luke pops out to scare them Bobby panics and punches him in the face. Luke finds this incredibly hot and asks him out on the spot even as his nose is bleeding. Similar to Julie, Bobby is so bewildered he says yes. He ends up joining the band eventually too.
-- Alex decides that even if they do this again next year Luke will not be joining them bc at this rate their band is going to turn into a full on orchestra.
-- As the end of the season quickly approaches Willie is dreading it because he's become really good friends with Alex and Reggie, but he knows how this goes. They’ll promise to keep in touch, they’ll text a couple times in the next couple weeks, and then they’ll eventually fall out of touch and forget about each other.
— Except the day after their last day, Alex and Reggie show up to take the tour as guests. Willie is just happy to see them, so he pointedly doesn’t ask why Alex is so nervous even though he knows where all the jump scares are. After the tour ends the two of them hang out in the club until Willie gets off of work, and at that point Reggie and Alex tell them that they didn’t want to ask while they were still coworkers so as not to pressure on him, but they would really really like to take him out on a date and have him join their relationship. Willie of course says yes immediately and the three of them live happily ever after
Also POV because that one is always fun!
Okay so this is an Alex POV from a Bobby POV wip I have yet to share… 👀
I think it’ll be more fun to let you guess what’s happening 😌 Enjoy!
“Hey.”
“Jesus, Alex!”
“Sorry,” he says, helping Bobby up from where he was hunched over his bag. “Didn’t mean to scare you like that.”
“Then why’d you sneak up on me?”
Alex opens his mouth, only to come up blank. “I… don’t have an answer to that. Uh, anyway,” he chuckles, and quickly files through his thoughts on how he should best approach this.
Bobby had been quiet today. Well, Bobby is quiet usually, but something is off. Alex is pretty sure he’s not the only one who noticed Bobby’s thousand-yard stares and chewed off fingernails, if the way Reggie shot him an encouraging double thumbs up across the room before is anything to go by.
Honestly, he’s a little surprised that Luke didn’t even notice; Bobby has fumbled more times today than in all their rehearsals this past year combined.
Bobby’s looking at him expectantly now, and there’s a hint of something like frustration, which—while probably warranted given the amount of times Bobby has caught him staring today—is not exactly helpful.
Alex is probably taking too long of a pause right now.
He should just say something, anything.
“I just wanted to say hi?”
Seriously?
Bobby stares. “Okay…” he says slowly. He shrugs. “Hi, then.”
“Uh, hi,” Alex replies dumbly. “That’s not actually what I wanted.”
“Go figure,” Bobby mumbles.
Was that an eye roll? Wait, is Bobby glancing at the door? Is he thinking about making an escape from Alex? Yeah, ha, this is not going well. He just wanted to check in on his friend, who probably thinks he’s being annoying right now.
Bobby sighs and panic catches just above Alex’s larynx.
“I just noticed–” he starts. “Well, like– you seem– I-I mean, like–”
He’s supposed to be cool, calm, and collected, or whatever. This is very much not that. He shuts his eyes and exhales sharply. Maybe he should just straight up ask.
“You okay, man?”
“Uh,” Bobby pauses. “Y-yeah,” he says, clearly lying.
Okay, so maybe straight up asking wasn’t the right way to go, but Alex is trying to be the less anxious one of the two of them right now.
Alex could take his word for it and leave it there if he was a worse friend. But he knows he won’t stop thinking about it until he knows Bobby is actually fine.
“You sure?”
Bobby stays silent. That doesn’t make Alex feel any better.
“It’s just…” Alex hesitates. How should he say this in a way that won’t spook Bobby? Like he’s a cat, his brain helpfully supplies. Alex tries very hard not to snort. Pull it together, he tells himself. Bobby needs a friend right now.
“You’re a lot quieter than usual today,” is what Alex cautiously lands on.
Something flickers behind Bobby’s eyes and, before Alex can parse it, clears his throat.
“It’s nothing,” he says, not meeting Alex’s eye. “I mean, I’m not even sure if I– or, if it’s anything worth, like, sharing at the moment…” he trails off, looking somewhere behind Alex.
Okay. So that’s something. Bobby has something on his mind that’s he’s… afraid?—or, at least, not ready—to share it, whatever it is.
Alex watches him carefully; wants to tell him that whatever he has to say is always worth sharing, but Bobby’s still looking over Alex’s shoulder and his eyebrows are starting to pinch together, and Alex has to sigh.
“They’re doing something stupid,” he says flatly, “aren’t they?”
Bobby gives him a look, and that’s all he needs before he’s turning around to stop Luke and Reggie from putting each other in hospital.
When Luke suddenly starts to cross over, Julie, Reggie and Alex are freaked out, and Julie and Luke start a final embrace until he's gone. Reggie and Alex are convinced they'll go too but they don't, they're just left without their best friend.
A week or two later, Julie's still struggling with the idea of Luke not being around (it's hard even when it's a ghost) - but there's gossip of a new boy going around, Julie doesn't care, even when Flynn talks to her about him... Until she sees him, Luke Patterson. If there's one way to make a first impression with the new boy, it's running over to him and screaming his name as if you've been torn apart for centuries... And if there's one way to break Julie Molina's heart, it's for Luke Patterson to look at her like she's the weirdest girl he's ever seen and walking away. When Julie tells Flynn about the new boy being Luke, Flynn is just as confused as her, maybe even more because 'that boy looks nothing like your phantom'.
Julie tells Reggie and Alex about him when she gets home and they're very excited to know she saw Luke again, they almost totally ignore the fact she said he walked away from her. When she tells them what Flynn said Reggie's like 'well what if it's just us that can see him as Luke' and they realise they must still be connected to him somehow.
Except when Julie tries to perform with Reggie and Alex in front of Luke (because again, what other way to make a great first impression on the new boy than singing with your 'hologram' band?) but when she's done he's like 'yeah that was a show alright... I loved the bit where you just skipped around the stage singing acapella, you might want to sign up for therapy'
Julie, Reggie, Alex and Flynn don't understand how their supposed Luke doesn't see Reggie and Alex because Flynn saw them perfectly fine...
And I haven't thought of anything after that I just like the idea of the angst it would cause :)
Where will we end up? (TEASER)
Tumblr media
A build-up to Sunset Curve and their honorary member. Pls see the bottom for more info!!
Content warnings: Female reader, mentions of anxiety, Alex’s hinted feelings for Luke, parents fighting, lack of father figure, hinted selective mutism and use of Y/N (could change for actual fic)
----------
July 27, 1990
The air was sticky. The Los Angeles sun beat down on three kids who were on the verge of being teenagers as they rode their bikes down to the pier. School was starting soon and all three had different worries that led to the same conclusion; what’s gonna happen to them?
For Alex Mercer, worrying about everything was his job. If he didn’t worry, how would he be prepared for every possible outcome? He was starting his 8th-grade year. The ‘Kings of Middle School’ as everyone would say, but he felt sick thinking about stepping up to the crown. Of course, he felt like this before every new school year but that wasn’t going to stop him from doing it again. He worried about his classes, and how many he would share with Y/N. He worried about how Y/N was going to handle the classes they didn’t share. He worried about how hot-headed Luke would handle 9th grade. He worried that Luke would make other friends and not want to hang out with 8th graders. He worried that Y/N won’t need him as much this year. And he worried she’d grow tired of him on the days he struggled to leave the house. He worried about the feeling he’d get in his stomach every time Luke smiled at him. Why did his friend make him so anxious? He shook his head and pedaled faster.
For Luke Patterson, worrying about the future wasn’t something he experienced often. Sure he wondered what his life would look like 5 years from now but didn’t everyone? He was starting 9th grade, ‘fresh-meat’ as upper-classmen would call them. He worried it would be too much. Heck, he’d only been living in LA for a year and now he has to leave his only two friends behind. He had tried to flunk 8th grade just so that the three of them could be in the same grade moving forward. Y/N had smacked him upside the head so hard he hissed just remembering it. He worried that if he stayed away too long, Alex and Y/N would realize they didn’t need him. The two were already attached to the hip when he came along and wedged his way in. Maybe they don’t need him as much as he needs them. They have each other and perhaps that’s enough. He worried he’d fall behind without Y/N keeping him in check. He worried about how he won’t be there to help Alex on the days everything was just too much. And he worried about who would be there to calm him down when everything was a little too loud and the clothes he wore were a little too rough that it made him want to peel his skin off. He sighed and pedaled faster.
For Y/N Y/L/N, worrying about the ‘what ifs’ was her favorite pastime. It wasn’t really. But they plagued her mind every free moment she had. What if Alex branched off? What if he didn’t need her anymore? What if Luke made friends? What if he spends more time in high school and won’t hang around them anymore? What if both Luke and Alex split off together? They were both guys and maybe they’ll realize it’s better with just the two of them. She worried they’d become someone she’d walk by and have to pretend the time they spent together didn’t exist. That the secrets they whispered to each other in the night disappeared as the sun came up. That the dreams they shared were snuffed out as time went on. She worried that she’d look into their eyes and instead of being met with the familiar warmth of home, she’d be met the reflection of who they once were and what they once met to each other. She wondered if she’d be able to navigate the 8th grade and life afterward without her two fellow musketeers at her side. She wiped the single tear off her face and pedaled faster.
----------
The comic book shop was cool as the air-conditioner rumbled in the background. Hot gusts of wind accompany the little bell as someone enters the shop. The sign on the door encouraging customers to fully close it so as to keep the cool air from escaping. School was starting soon and as a boy sits on the beanbag that’s become his designated spot, he worries about starting the 8th grade.
For Reggie Peters, worrying about school has never been a big thing unless it involved bringing home classmates for a group project. Which he always managed to avoid. At least, that was his only worry until recently. His parents’ fighting had gotten worse. The words he had heard his parents yell at each other as he sat on the stairs had caused him to gasp. Which happened to be the last sound he made. He wondered how two people who swore to love each other could utter such things. He hadn’t been able to talk in almost two months and now school was right around the corner and he worried about interactions. He worried teachers would get upset with him like his parents had. He worried people would find him rude, thinking he was ignoring them. He wondered how he would make friends in his classes if the mere attempt at speaking caused him physical discomfort. He grabbed the water bottle and granola bar that sat on the napkin with “For Reggie” scribbled on it. He smiled at the gesture. He hoped his voice would come back so he could properly thank the owners of the comic book store that felt more like home than his house ever did.
----------
The sun shone brightly as a boy skated through the park. His eyes squinted as the light hit him directly in the face. Placing a hand over his forehead in an attempt to block the rays, his eyes widened as he realized he was heading straight toward a girl walking her dog. He quickly maneuvered around to avoid hitting her only for his wheel to catch a stone causing him to land on his side. He groaned as he sat up, dusting off his dark jeans and rolling his eyes as he noticed he scraped his elbow yet again. He leaned back on his hands and looked up at the sky peeking through the leaves of the tree he had found himself under.
For Bobby Shaw, worrying about stuff was something he always tried to keep under wraps. His mom worried enough as it was and he didn’t want to add it. As the ‘man of the house’ he had to keep cool under the gaze of both his mom and grandma. He briefly wondered where his dad was. He had recently promoted from the 8th grade without a father in the crowd. The thought immediately went away. Why should he care about the man that walked out on him and his mom? He was starting 9th grade soon and his mom was making a fuss about it. Something about him growing up fast. He was tall for his age and his grandma always nags him about the ridiculous clothes he wears. Asking him how he hoped to make friends if the sight of him was enough to intimidate. He was worried. For what? He wasn’t sure. He didn’t care much for school. He didn’t care much for consistent company. He had skatepark buddies but that was all they were and he didn’t mind. He worried the most about disappointing his grandma. He didn’t hold the same traditional views as she did but he knew that she loved him regardless. And maybe he was lying about how little he actually cared about everything else. But that wasn’t something he was ready to unpack. He stood up, grabbed his board and kicked off.
A/N: Hi! I finally have motivation AND some free time to actually write something. This story is going to follow the boys and the reader as they navigate through high school, meet each other, start the band, be teenagers, face struggles, and feel feelings. I'm not sure how you all feel about "Y/N" Please let me know, I can totally name her and have it be more of an OC!
The fic will be including my personal headcanons for the boys and there's more backstory to how Y/N, Alex and Luke met if you're interested in like a flashback thing. Or a separate headcanon list/context for each person.
Also, this is probably going to be a Reggie x Reader/Bobby x Reader. I have not decided 100%
Thank you for taking the time to read this little thing, please let me know if you'd like it to be an actual fic!
I don't wanna miss a thing
on ao3, Rated G - read it how you'd like, platonic or romantic rulie/peterpatterlina
Julie walks into the studio to the sound of Aerosmith blasting through the speakers. She laughs to herself, ever conflicted by the way her boys share her dad’s music taste but loving the nostalgia offered by dad rock.
What does surprise Julie is that the studio is nearly empty with Reggie hanging out alone sifting through a pile of CDs. He’s seldom the one seeking solitude, opting more often than not to hang out with Ray or Carlos inside.
“What’d you find?” she asks, making him jump in surprise. Julie giggles as a blush makes its way up his face.
He looks down at the pile in front of him and then back up at her, “Found some unmarked CDs in the loft. Thought I’d see what was on ‘em.” He smiles before continuing, “Haven’t been disappointed yet.”
Julie laughs as she settles in next to him, “No, I don’t imagine so.”
She leans into Reggie and he wraps his arm around her shoulders while they listen in silence for a moment.
“You probably know Aerosmith?” she asks as she tilts her head up to look at him.
“Of course, not this one though,” he replies, smiling down at her and planting a kiss on her forehead.
“I think you probably found Dad’s sappy collection. He made these CDs for Mami all the time when we were little. Probably have a tape collection hiding somewhere too.”
Just then, the song changes and Reggie’s eyes light up. “I know this one!” he cheers as he jumps up, dislodging Julie from his side. “Dance with me?” he asks, extending his hand out to her.
Julie sits herself back up and sends him a confused look, “You know how to dance?”
“Yeah!” Reggie enthuses as if it should be obvious and then his voice softens, “Mom was a big fan of swing. Some of our good times were dancing in the kitchen together. The boys never let me throw them around though.”
Julie laughs, “I’d pay good money to see that.”
He curls his fingers at her impatiently, “C’mon, dance with me!”
Julie sighs and stands up, taking his hand and letting him lead her around the space.
They carefully navigate around the furniture until Reggie gets frustrated and stops them to move the coffee table to the edge of the studio and takes her hand again.
He’s a bit rusty and Julie has never swing danced before but she does alright at following his lead, letting him spin her around and dip her at his whimsy, giggling as he does so. They only run into each other and she only steps on his toes a handful of times.
“I want to bop with you baby, all night long I want to be-bop with you baby till the break of dawn I want to bop with you baby all night I want to bop with you baby all night long” Reggie sings as they dance, halfway out of breath due to how quickly they’re moving.
They slow down as the song ends and when it transitions into the next one, he pulls her close into his chest, slow dancing to the new songs.
“I don’t know this one,” Reggie whispers into her hair.
Julie smiles up at him, “I do.”
She starts to sing along as they circle the space, “I’ll be your crying shoulder I'll be love's suicide And I'll be better when I'm older I'll be the greatest fan of your life.”
“It’s beautiful,” he says, holding her close.
Julie rests her head on his shoulder as she agrees, “Yeah. It is.”
They dance in silence for another verse and are interrupted when Luke poofs into the studio.
“Dancing without me?” he asks with a pout that they can hear.
Reggie and Julie both let out soft chuckles before opening their arms to him.
“Come dance with us,” Julie offers and he immediately settles in between them as they finish out the song.
“You should let Reggie dance with you,” Julie tells Luke as they pull apart.
Luke looks between them with wide eyes. “I’d love to dance with you, Reg,” he says.
“You’d swing dance with me?” Reggie asks, skepticism lacing his voice.
“I didn’t know I could,” Luke mutters and Reggie sighs.
“I spent years trying to get you to dance with me.”
“Yeah, but…” Luke tries to explain as he gestures between himself and Reggie.
“You deserve to be spun around and dipped too, Luke,” Julie smiles at him.
“What if he drops me?” Luke wonders, voice barely above a whisper.
“Then you fall,” Julie whispers back, placing Luke’s hand in Reggie’s. “You’ll survive.”
“Also, trust me,” Reggie adds with a grin of his own.
Reggie is relieved when the next song is another quick one that they can swing to though it’s another he doesn’t recognize. It doesn’t take him long to find the beat and Julie’s enjoying watching the two of them twirl around the space.
She muffles a laugh into her hand as Luke stumbles around, doing his best to keep the pace that Reggie’s setting.
Reggie decides to slow them to half time to get Luke used to the movement but also following.
Julie can’t help but sway and sing along as they find their groove and Luke sends love stricken looks her way as she does.
“I'm lookin' for a whole lot more Than a one night rodeo What can I do To prove to you I'm layin' it on the line I'll even get down on my knees.”
Reggie shakes Luke and gives him a pointed look when he gets his attention back, “If you pay attention, I’m less likely to drop you.”
“But Julie,” Luke whispers to him.
“I know. You can look at her after. I’m gonna dip you now.”
“Don’t drop me!” Luke exclaims and Reggie glares at him.
“Trust me,” Reggie utters out between clenched teeth before sending Luke out for another spin and then pulling him back and dipping him.
When he’s pulled back up to standing, Luke lets out the breath that he’d been holding.
“Fun, right?” Julie asks as she appears at their side.
Luke’s eyes are bright as he turns to her, a little bit breathless, “Yeah. We should do that more.” He reaches out for Reggie and puts his arm around his shoulders, pulling Reggie into his side. “Thanks, Reg. We should teach Alex and Willie.”
Julie’s eyes widen in excitement, “Yeah! We should. Good idea, Luke!”
Reggie’s face falls into a pout and Julie immediately notices.
“What’s wrong?” she asks.
“Odd numbers,” he explains.
“Oh. Well we can get Flynn. And Carrie. But that’s odd again. We can take turns! We’ll figure it out. There will be no Reggie-Wheeling on my watch! I promise,” Julie assures him and Reggie directs a small smile her way.
“Thanks, Jules,” Reggie says as he pulls her between him and Luke and they wrap her into a hug, both planting kisses to the top of her head before smiling at each other over her.
