With the reveal that Aduo didn’t actually want to be the mother of the nation, looks like we now have a concrete path to a happy ending for Jinshi.

Though I actually really want to see him as the Emperor one day (at least for a time), it would be thematically appropriate if Jinshi takes not after the Emperor, but after Gaoshun and becomes the retainer of the future Emperor.

sits up in bed. so lana and ema definitely thought they were responsible for edgeworth "choosing death", right?

(the rest of this post was supposed to go in the tags, because it's not very well organised or written, but it got too long so. here are the slightly edited tags for your reading pleasure (or otherwise)):

i was going to make this solely about ema because she's the obvious one with her open adoration of edgeworth, but the thing about rfta is that it goes to great lengths to emphasise the connection between lana and edgeworth as well.

the sl-9 incident showed that lana grows attached to people deeply, hence angel starr's comment on how, when neil marshall died, 'she (lana) felt like her own brother had died.' with edgeworth, i think it was similar but worse. because he's not just a coworker or subordinate who's dear to her. he saved her life. and it cost him his own.

at the beginning of the case, edgeworth says he was mistaken for thinking that lana was always looking out for him post sl-9 (a statement interesting on its own because that's when everyone else says she grew distant), and, later on, he brings ema fingerprinting powder because lana asked him to. then, of course, there's the 'lady luck' comment he makes.

similarly, on lana's side, you obviously have the end of the trial when she says he did well, but there's also that additional moment post-trial where she's the only one to notice — in a group comprising her, ema, phoenix and gumshoe — that he's 'hiding', listening to their conversation. point is, there's enough to suggest that she might have been the nearest thing edgeworth had to a mia; his 'chief prosecutor' to phoenix's plain 'chief'. they're as close as two people can be in a relationship where one of them is constantly lying and the other is von karma's star pupil.

rfta is pretty straightforwardly depicted as the case which solidified edgeworth's resolve to do what he did; i don't think i have to prove that. rumours about him have reached new heights, his car and knife were involved in goodman's murder, he makes an unprecedented mistake in court by failing to connect the evidence room and carpark incidents, thus forcing the chief of police to enter the trial to do so himself, and he's publicly revealed to have relied on falsified evidence to secure a conviction in the sl-9 case, all of which only happened because of lana. jake marshall even claims that from the beginning — that if you trace edgeworth's rumours back to their source, you end up meeting one person: lana skye.

and it gets worse because at the end of rfta, she thinks he's fine!! she literally says, 'i was afraid the pressure would break you, but you rose above it,' and reminds him he's nothing like gant because he's not alone. she leaves the case thinking he will be okay. and then, what, like a week passes, and she finds out that he wasn't, and that he's gone, and it's her fault. even after she was freed from gant's control, even after she had finally stopped lying, she couldn't prevent herself from claiming another life. so much for 'lady luck', i suppose.

and the game reiterates this multiple times. gumshoe states at the start that edgeworth's ties to those higher up in the department have made him the subject of constant rumours, and phoenix says (in front of ema) that he shouldn't be held responsible for the forged evidence because that was all lana's doing, which then leads to edgeworth commenting (again in front of ema) that he feels as though 'something inside him has died.' it all goes back to lana. we can argue and say that it was technically gant's doing that caused all of this, but lana still took actions that led to it. even her complicated friendship with edgeworth isn't spared; it's that closeness between them that exacerbated those rumours. how could she not feel responsible in some way?

and with ema, it's rather obvious, isn't it? if she hadn't gone poking her nose into things, none of this would have happened or come to light. and, of course, she'd never choose anyone over her sister, not for anything in the world — it's simply not a question, but that's the problem, isn't it? it's not a question. it's not some hypothetical moral dilemma. it just is. she may not have killed neil marshall, but she still has one king of prosecutor's blood on her hands. and now she has to live with that. she just. has. to live with it. no matter if he chose otherwise.

moving on from that a little, i think it's actually wild how much of ema's journey to becoming a forensics investigator is paved with bad memories. neil marshall's death and her subsequent inability to testify are what drives her to begin pursuing it, her first proper investigation results in her idol's "death" and when she finally graduates, the person who saved her sister has been disbarred, and she can't even help because she isn't allowed to. all that pain and constant pursuit of her goals, and she's still the same ema skye, still that girl shrouded in darkness, always one step behind the truth, one step a little too late. no wonder she was angry in aa:aj. i would be furious.

#and then like a year later they find out edgeworth's fine and if that happened to me i think i would kill him fr #WKSHDKAHDKS #lana skye #ema skye #miles edgeworth #the skye sisters' relationship with one dramatic depressed prosecutor is something that can be so personal...#ive literally never thought this much about lana or ema ever. they never occupy my thoughts but somehow.#everyone else: man edgeworth's vanishing must have had a real impact on franziska and phoenix. me: what about these 2 side characters who #technically only appeared once in the whole trilogy. in a dlc. what about them.#it's actually so interesting how much lana is set up to be important to edgeworth. phoenix even says she reminds him of mia and when i #first read that i was like ??? bc of the scarf? there's more to mia than a scard phoenix. but then you pay attention to how she interacts #with edgeworth and it's like oh. i see it now. and then she disappears forever.#mind you i dont think she or ema were like. destroyed by the news of edgeworth's supposed passing. not in the way phoenix was anyway.#for better or worse both lana and ema are shown to have a tight hold over themselves emotionally speaking. lana keeps a lid on them for #years and ema is told she might have killed neil by accident and is functional after a brief faint and recess. like those women are strong.#but i do think it would have had a deep impact regardless of how well they were able to cope. like i've said i dont see how it wouldnt.#anyway this concludes my rfta moment. time to go back to being unable to say a thing about susato-san even though she occupies my every #waking moment. if you read all this ily <3 #it's also past midnight so if this is all a bit everywhere im sorry

Semi-desperate Mithrun in regards to Kabru post-canon is so fucking real. On top of everything else, the guy kinda sorta literally gave him a will to live. Like. Mithrun's an acts of service logic type guy and was already attached to him. And how the fuck are you gonna return a favor like That. Beyond the continuing demon hunting and shit he probably rings up Kabru once a week like "You wanna hang out. I know you're stressed all the time every day. Come hang out with me." And is like yea, this is a normal response to a guy making you see you still have a life. And doesn't process the fact he's in weird complicated some kinda love with him.

YES !!!! mithrun hasn't desired (or hasn't believed he desired anything besides revenge) and when he's starting to develop feelings for kabru, he's nervous and a bit surprised. to me the realisation is slow and methodical, like "i miss kabru. i want kabru around. i feel his absence. what does this mean. all a part of newly wanting things i guess. totally normal to do this." -> 6 months later "oh"

and last time he fell in love, mithrun became a dungeon master and his entire life changed. now he's got his life back, learning about loving that, and kabru complicates many things. i think even kabru would have hesitations, mostly over how he believes elves can't understand short lived races, and if there is a 'future' for them that they'd both be happy with. i want to see them work it out together. it's very beautiful to me :)

This is a highly personal opinion of mine, so feel free to ignore this if you disagree with it (please), but...

I really do wish that Volo's title of 'Wielder' would ultimately turn out to not be as big of an issue as it may seem on the surface. During my first playthrough of LA, my belief was Wielder is simply an old world term from his Celestican background that is more or less the equivalent of Trainer.

The fact Volo also refers to the protagonist as a Wielder supported this belief in my mind. I loved that, because it felt like he was sharing a piece of his culture in that moment. He actually wasn't so different. Perhaps the Celesticans did see their Pokémon as weapons as well, but can someone not sincerely love their weapon? Can Volo not love his Togekiss as Link does the Master Sword??

Also again, this opinion is highly personal, but... this word, Wielder, that is implied to be from Volo's culture, which is established as being important to him, being framed as primitive and wrong in comparison to the modern Trainer when Volo clearly loves his Togepi, I can't help but feel that has some... unfortunate connotations.

#regardless of what happens in Masters I think I might keep Wielder as being close to an old world term for Trainer in my universe #there's definitely some culture shock attached but ultimately it's a case of him not being so different from Akari #volo #pokemon legends: arceus #pokemas

I'm still reeling from the episodes but something about Gicheol being suspicious of both Junmo and Euijeong, desperately wanting to believe otherwise. Gicheol giving him his suit to wear, asking him, as gently as he can manage, to not let him down. Junmo going on a "date" with Haeryun, both of them unable to keep Gicheol's name out of the conversation. "He also had a tough childhood like me." Junmo wanting to ask Gicheol's permission before finalizing the deal. Junmo seeing Euijeong, while in Gicheol's clothes, while Haeryun kisses him. "You'll be fine without Mr.Jung, right?" Junmo immediately racing off towards the office, frantically calling Gicheol. The heartbreaking eye contact between Euijeong and Junmo. Gicheol holding her hand and prioritizing her safely above everything else. Junmo seeing red everywhere and finally letting himself go, staining his...Gicheol's pristine beige suit the deepest shade of crimson. "Why do you go to such lengths?" "Because I have someone I want to protect" He looks at Euijeong, but Haeryun looks at Gicheol. They both look at Junmo through the stained glass. What does this mean? Was it really just Euijeong that Junmo was trying to protect? Junmo going guard dog again in the Jaegeon office, one look from Gicheol and he's slicing the guy's achilles off. Sitting in silence, together, in the ER. "Seungho, are you okay?" "Sir, are you okay?" "Are you hungry?" "Yes" "Then let's go eat" Both of them worried about Euijeong. "I can't stop here. I have to see this through" Gicheol taking Junmo to his fucking home, like he only did with Taeho. Sleeping in the same room together, Junmo remembering how fiercely Gicheol protected Euijeong. Him looking at their high school pictures while Minju strolls in and asks him to take care of her brother. Them going back to work only for Gicheol to take matters to the heart while Junmo tries to rationalize. Junmo going to insane lengths and partnering up with Haeryun to see this deal through—for the mission? for Euijeong? for Gicheol? for himself? He's not sure. Actually, these days, Junmo is not sure of anything anymore.

#Why does he care what happens to Gicheol? He could've let Jaegeon take care of him and let Haeryun lead him to the crux of the drug trade.#His mission would've been completed regardless of whether Gicheol lived or died.#he didnt even know that euijeong was still with Gicheol when he left for the office #he went there for Gicheol ready to kill for him and euijeong just fuelled that simmering fire that was already burning underneath his skin #he doesn't even know who he's doing all of this for—everything is a blur #he could kill gicheol but there's something flaring inside him that wants to kill for him instead #and it disgusts Junmo how twistedly close it is to what he felt when he looked at Euijeong through that window #the worst of evil #man...what a fucking ride

This is a part of Felix I really like. When it comes to Rodrigue, as long as Rodrigue is safe, Felix is his usually tsun self... but as soon as anything dangerous happens to him (in both games) Felix gets anxious.

It's a nice detail because it makes sense for him to feel that way after losing Glenn, and since this is in VW, he's also, presumably at this point, lost Dimitri. It makes sense that if something felt off about his family (i.e. Dimitri is basically his brother, thus family. Dimitri literally sees Rodrigue as his second father) that he would get uncomfortable.

What I love about it is how much it speaks to his real feelings. He can act uppity and vocal all he wants, but as soon as something happens to these people he claims he doesn't like or care about, it makes him antsy. For all the nonsense he talks about them, as soon as something happens to them, he struggles to accept it (such as why, in his AM advice box note, you have to tell him that that's just the way life is sometimes when he's grieving about his father).

For all of Felix's complaining about Rodrigue, as soon as Rodrigue suddenly isn't able to update him regularly or communicate with him during a war, he becomes uneasy. He's not suddenly grateful like oh finally the old man shut up. He gets nervous that they've suddenly had little to no contact. He's unsettled not knowing what's going on with Rodrigue.

I love this line because it's who Felix really is, without all the posturing. He'll act tough and angry in front of them, but as soon as something goes wrong, he wants to know what's happening. He's afraid of not knowing what's going on. He's afraid that the Kingdom could be in a bad situation, or worse for him, that his father could be in a dangerous situation.

If he didn't care about Faerghus or his father anymore, why would it bother him not to get updates? If Rodrigue was in contact with Felix despite Felix being in the Alliance army, Rodrigue obviously had no issue with that and still took the time and effort to remain in contact with him. Plus, if Felix says this now, it means they'd been pretty regularly exchanging information up to that point and it's just recently started to go quiet, and Felix is uncomfortable with that. He wants to know what's happening.

It's so rare that he acts like this, but when he does it's very powerful. It's sincere and genuine - something he usually is not. He hides his feelings about people if they're safe in front of him. If they're not in front of him and could be in danger, he's worried.

I just wish we had more lines like this because they're so good for his character and help to get him past the issue Houses often has with tropey aspects of characters being their entire personality. In Hopes it's handled significantly better imo, but before we had AG Felix we only really had crumbs of who Felix really was and the parts of himself that he hid from others.

#DCB Three Houses Run #here in this house we love when felix actually shows that he cares and worries abt his father #and also dimitri bc like regardless of what he says dimitri is... basically his step brother #just bc it's not ''official'' doesn't mean dimitri doesn't basically see it that way #i.e. he sees rodrigue as his father and well... considering his childhood and how families work #would reasonably see felix as his step brother. felix doesn't like to admit it but #i think he's accepted that and that's why what dimitri goes through bothers him so much #obviously felix is TERRIBLE at handing mentally ill ppl but... he doesn't like seeing dimitri like that #to him those two are still his family and i appreciate that in vw he's extremely conflicted and #very nervous and upset about what's happening in faerghus
