People love to say, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” What they don’t say is, “And it would be nice if you gave him a fishing rod.” That’s the part of the analogy that’s missing.

Recsmas 2019 - Day 15: A Final Book
The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
All three of the books in the Winternight Trilogy were amazing, and this is the perfect time to read them!! I’m sure they’re good anytime of the year, but they’re fantastic winter reads.

🎄Welcome to Recsmas 2019 - the last Recsmas🎄
Every December since 2015, I’ve run this challenge for booklr where everyone shares their favourite books from the year in line with a prompt list. People have taken photos, written posts, made edits, shared quotes - all sorts of things to show their love for books they read during the year. But now we’ve come to the final Recsmas.
From December 1st until December 24th, answer the day’s prompt from the list above with a book you’ve read in 2019. This can be with a photo, a text post, an interpretive dance – whatever suits you. Just remember to tell us why you enjoyed it and to tag your posts with “thereadingchallengechallenge” and “recsmas 2019″ so everyone can check them out.
I’ll answer a few questions below the read more but if you have any other queries, here’s my ask box and I’ll tag my response so it shows up in the “recsmas 2019″ tag :) Also be sure to take a look at the tags for previous years if you’d like to get a feel for how Recsmas has gone in the past.
I can’t wait to see what everyone’s been reading in 2019 and for us all to share our recommendations. See you on December 1st! - Em ❄️📚🎄
FAQ:
Q: Why is this the last Recsmas? A: I finish college this year and don’t know whether I’ll have the time to devote to the challenge next year. Since this was the 5th Recsmas, I thought it was a good opportunity to wrap it up.
Q: What if I haven’t read many books this year or don’t have a response for each prompt? A: No problemo! You’re totally free to only participate on the days that suit you. Sometimes there just isn’t a book that fits the prompt and that’s okay. Join in as little or as much as you want.
Q: Do I have to take photos? A: Not if you don’t want to. There are always people who just do text posts or just grab a cover image off Goodreads and that’s perfectly fine.
Q: Can I recommend the same book twice? A: If you want to :)
Q: Do you reblog responses to the challenge? A: I try my best to. I’m in Australia so sometimes the time difference gets in the way a little but I always go through the tag (not the search) and do my best to reblog from everyone.
Q: Do rereads count? A: Certainly - just so long as it was read in 2019, it counts.

Recsmas 2019
Day 23: a book everybody should know
You might have seen these books on my blog before, but I can't help myself. 'The mirror visitor' series is just so good and outrageously underrepresented here on tumblr. The world broke apart in different arks, which each developed unique powers (from creating illusions, over using portals to ignoring gravity- nothing is impossible). We follow Ophelia, a reader and mirror visitor, on her way to new arks, seeking the answer to the final question and trying to reach her destination before God does.

Recsmas day 11: A Diverse Book
The Priory of the Orange Tree was a favorite of mine this year and full of diversity and representation, along with plenty of dragons!

December 7th - A book that made you smile
I love science, I love the history of science, I love fantasy--so it’s no wonder that when I read this I felt like it had been specifically written for me. I look forward to getting to the rest of the series soon!

A selection of my 4.5 to 5-star books, all were New to Me authors and I will definitely be picking up more from these authors.

Recsmas 2019 | Day 20
A Good Villain - Chaos Walking
To say you have no choice is to relieve yourself of responsibility.
Mayor Prentiss is probably one of the best villains I've ever read. It's hard to mention anything without spoilers for this trilogy. He emotionally manipulated a whole town and made people do scary things, and then the ending of his story was so human. I didn't like his character at all but he's one of the best portrayed villains with a great storyline.

Recsmas 2019: Day 10 - A book with awesome guys
I love all the boys in this series! But Nealan of Queenscove has always been a favourite.
Neal: You’re the oldest ten year old I’ve ever met
Kel: What is that supposed to mean?
Neal: It means I’m trying to justify to myself the fact that the best lesson I ever had on chivalry came from someone five years younger me. When you put it that way, well, I guess I’d better help.

Merry Christmas if you're celebrating!! ❤❤
So, for the last week of 2019, I'm going to be posting some of my favourite books of the year. And today's favourite is The Ocean at the End of the Lane!! (As you can probably tell by the picture 😂).
I read this recently, and immediately loved it. The illustrations were hauntingly beautiful, and this book gave me all the nostalgic feels and reminded me of what it was like to be a 7 year old child again. This book is my first Neil Gaiman read, and I'm so excited to discover more of his books in 2020. I should say that this book is for adults (I don't recommend this for children). It does have a few dark and intense scenes (there was one scene that completely destroyed me. If you've read this, you probably know what I'm taking about) but I recommend it anyways. It really is great! 🖤

Day 15: a final book
'The Shepherd's Crown' is both the last book of the Tiffany Aching series and the last book that Sir Terry Pratchett wrote. Reading it made me tear up a little (between smiling and laughing) and he will forever be missed.

Listen, listen, I know LITERALLY EVERYONE who has read this book is recommending it far and wide, but that’s because IT’S AMAZING and you should really listen to them if you like a) the gay, b) the romance, c) the funny, or d) all of the above.
