#really gotta get psyched up for a rewatch

totally echo your tags on the bismuth post. I haven't really been able to engage with steven universe (or adventure time for that matter) since they ended. too many emotions. maybe one day we'll both get to our rewatches and feel all the things we want to feel. but for now, here's to putting it off 🤝
I'm glad to know I'm not alone! I've been wanting to do a rewatch but SU meant so so much to me when it was on, it was quite a big part of my life for a while so I have all these memories (not just of watching the show and the emotions within the show but also all the hype and chatting with all you lovely folks and also my little sister was so little when we started watching and now she's almost an adult!!) I know as soon as I start watching it again all those emotions will come flooding in and it seems like a lot! I'm the kind of person who needs to be in a particular 'mood' to really start most things anyway so it just really seems like something I gotta psych myself up for it. It's weirdly daunting even to think about!
But yeah, it is super nice to know it's not just me. I definitely hope we're able to get around to rewatching it one day. If you're anything like me, once you do get around to it you'll be like "Aw man, what took me so long!" lol

Theory of Love Rewatch Ep 9 Stray Thoughts
Last time, Khai struggled to reconnect with Third, because it's really difficult to do the emotional work required to be in effective long term relationships with anyone when the person you need to reconcile with is the person you relied on to do that work for you. Khai may be serious about Third at this point, but he's never treated his relationships as more than a physical release prior to this, and went through the motions for getting the booty. No one is on his side, and Third is trying to move on. Meanwhile, Two is trying to move forward with Lynn, and Bone just learned that Paan has someone who's serious about her. Everyone thinks Un is into Third. We left at Khai crashing his motorcycle and getting hurt after being yelled at by Third for forcing a kiss on him AGAIN.
I really think Un and Third just went to a screening to get inspiration for their script.
Oh, he's delirious from blood loss. I don't remember this portion of the show well, so I really hope Khai doesn't take Third giving him attention again because he's hurt as a reasonable approach to getting him to interact in the future.
Khai was talking all that shit about Un, but look whose big ass is driving them to the hospital.
Ep.09 Love Triangle. I think this is the first Thai film they've used as the inspiration for the episode.
I do like when a character has to confront their psyche in a nether space. The Walkabout episode of Babylon 5 is my favorite example of this.
Okay, I am really harsh on Khai, so let me say some nice things about the production. Having Bone and Two not be scared when Khai woke up is very reassuring for the audience, even if the inventory of injuries Khai sustained is extensive. Also, telling us he's been asleep for a day as Third walks up still in his bloody clothes lets us know immediately how worried Third was.
Obsessed with Khai's parents. The dad trying to keep upbeat, the mom chiding, the dad reminding Khai that this actually is quite serious, and them asking Third to look after Khai. I get it, show. They're best friends and everyone knows. I'm still salty.
Oh, thanks for explaining my earlier bullet, Bone.
Good job, bros. Khai is an idiot for kissing Third AGAIN. We ain't forget!!
See, this is what I'm saying. It's convenient he got injured? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Face yourself and your friend!
Bone, why are we suggesting checking again? Y'all pissed off me and Third the last time y'all did this shit.
These mofos really going through his messages. I know y'all are boys and all, but respect your homie's fucking privacy.
They don't even know how to set up a side chat. This is embarrassing.
I'm glad the privacy invasion bit ended quickly on Third telling them all to fuck off and let him handle his business.
Hold on, Lynn, we need to do some quick PPL.
Love that the musical cues in GMMTV shows were loud in 2019 and they're loud now.
It really is so hard for me not to simp over Gun constantly in every one of these reactions.
Oh, Khai, you're getting there. Is it hard when the person you're trying to get over suddenly treats you kindly?
I will accept the show using Khai's lingering injuries as a way to illustrate that he can't really heal or take care of himself while Third isn't part of his life.
"Let me help you with your shower." Now, Third, we have all seen this scene before. You gotta give your bro a hand?
Good thing Third wears capris.
I don't want to give Bone too much credit for his awareness of his feelings for Paan because they're hets. Two may just now be figuring out that he was jealous about Un sharing that restaurant with someone else, but it feels like this may be new for him and he's been trying to pursue Lynn.
All that paper is going to make a mess of the pool.
Listen, unnamed boy in the Never Have I Ever game, do you not realize there are queers at this table and you're just lobbing grenades into the chat??
Keyword association went to shit, too!
Why are they leaving us hanging on Lynn's answer to Two?
Curious why Praew wanted to come clean to Third.
If I was Un, I know I would have to whip Khai's ass later over this. This gang stay fucking with him and all he does is help them. Now he's being punched out because Khai is jealous and misunderstanding? Hell to the no. Don't start shit with me because I will finish it.
Oh lord we got big drama next episode with early dating, lies, and bad timing.
Khai is such an asshole, so I think it's correct for his character to confess his feelings in the heat of an argument. I think this is a pretty solid episode for the most part, but I'm not sure all of the party worked for me. I think Khai's injuries were used well to mirror his internal feelings. I'm a bit bored of the stuff going on with Bone and Two though.
As always, this rewatch is sponsored by @lurkingshan, with support from @waitmyturtles and @neuroticbookworm. Tagging @twig-tea by request.

#Stacked100 - Day 1
Today we're watching 2x01: "The 48"
Positives:
+ The title alone! In a show called "The 100," coming back to season two with an episode called "The 48" immediately reminds us of the massacre at the end of the first season, and of just how many of the kids sent to the ground have already been lost. And this was still early on, when there wasn't a new group of hundreds of people either dying or coming very close to dying every other episode. I do remember how effective that number reduction was when I first watched this episode, though, and I think that reminder pairs nicely with Clarke's desperation when she wakes up in the white room.
+ The first scene is an intense way to start the season - and this rewatch! Maya in her hazmat suit + Clarke immediately losing her shit and injuring herself + taking Maya hostage... all ending with that shockingly peaceful, community breakfast scene. If there was one thing the early seasons were especially good at, it was raising the stakes and changing the status quo in a surprising way. This scene is a great example of that.
+ This season in particular is one that I think Clarke's single-minded intensity towards a specific goal works really well for her character. She immediately distrusts everyone at Mt Weather and wants only to get out of the shelter and back to her people. And since she ends up being absolutely right, her determination and drive to protect people is at its most noble and justified.
+ TRIGEDASLENG TRIGEDASLENG TRIGEDASLENG!! This is the first time we ever hear it and it comes straight from Octavia's mouth and I love that. In later seasons, she's one of the people who speaks it the most and keeps it alive, long after it probably should have died out, so it's very fitting that she's the first person to speak it on screen.
+ Raven and Murphy on the dropship floor, (nearly) dying together. The beginning of a beautiful friendship and they don't even know it yet. Raven literally would've killed him if she wasn't out of bullets. He shot her like, only a few hours before this. But they talk and they come to a sort of uneasy truce. She saves his life at the end, by telling the adults that she "got shot" instead of saying "Murphy shot me." Another thing this show was very, very good at was putting adversaries in the same situation and that letting them find the beginning of a positive relationship there. This wasn't the first time and won't be the last, but it is one of the best.
+ Monroe and that other kid trying to psych themselves up to go save Bellamy and Finn by going "we're warriors. we're warriors!!!"- that kind of made me tear up! They were just kiiiiids!
+ Lincoln carrying Octavia on his shoulders and supporting her tiny head with one huge hand while she's sick from the poison. Lincoln making Octavia repeat that same Trigedasleng phrase over and over again so her pronunciation sounds natural and his people might accept her without him. Lincoln going back to his village and risking a very painful death for treason to get Octavia the antidote. And that doesn't even touch what Octavia is going to do for him in next week's episode. Linctavia really was THAT ship.
+ The late episode pop/rock/indie/alternative/vaguely mid-2010s song montage! Another CW classic. Especially common on The 100 in the first three seasons. I had a playlist of all of them during the peak of my obsession of this show. I genuinely love how on the nose they are, it cracks me up. Clarke settling into Mt Weather (to the extent that her paranoid ass can,) interposed with Skaikru making their way to the Ark to settle there, all while the lyrics "we are coming home" play in the background. So specific. Gotta love it.
+ Monty and his magic tricks! Jasper and Monty play-fighting over chocolate cake! Jasper meeting Maya for the first time! Jasper and Monty well-fed and wearing clean clothes!! I really miss Monty and Jasper. They brought so much heart to this show. And as much hardship as they're going to face later on in this season, it's so nice to see scenes of them relatively happy and carefree in this episode.
Negatives:
- Lincoln says "our warriors speak English," implying non-warrior Grounders don't. They gave up on that one really really quick, didn't they?? I don't think we ever met a grounder that didn't actually speak English.
- The Mountain Men probably would've discovered nightbloods and it should've been a thing, but of course nightblood wasn't a thing at all in the written story at this point, because it clearly wasn't thought of until the writing for s3 began. Just a fun little plothole, classic CW writing.
- "I saw a man. No, it was a - it was a monster!" and then it cuts to an actual deformed human who *doesn't* look anything like the Reapers we'll meet later in the season. I might be wrong - someone please correct me if I am, this has bothered me for years - but I don't think this ever gets addressed. I guess it could just be an especially irradiated Reaper but we never see anyone else deformed to that level. Most people who get radiation poisoning in this show die quickly. I hate this scene.
- "I know she's intense but Clarke's the only reason we survived." One, it's just not true, and totally dismisses everything Raven, Bellamy, Finn, Octavia, Jasper, Monty, and even the nameless kids in the background doing basic (and hard) labor did. Two, Clarke is gonna use that mentality to continue a series-long downward spiral into that "intensity," making some truly awful decisions, many of which will not be for the good of her people, despite what she says. Despite what so many of them say, unfortunately.
- "When you pulled that lever, you saved lives. Don't throw that away by pulling this one." THE GODDAMN LEVERS. IT BEGINS.
- Occasionally this show could be subtle. The heavy-handed comparison between Clarke and Dante Wallace was not one of those occasions.
Miscellaneous:
~ I fully forgot how brutal this show is??? The Grounder just executing that kid that couldn't keep up?? Woof. And they don't really hold back on the violence/gore, at least for a YA/teen show on The CW.
~ The Mtn Men put together a whole welcome packet and orientation for these kids with surprising efficiency. But I don't think anything like this has happened before?? Like they've never had unexpected new arrivals that they didn't just immediately turn into Reapers or blood bags??? How did they know to do that in such an organized way??? The mysteries of Mt Weather continue to baffle me.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I think this is a good episode. It clearly sets up the stakes and positions of everyone for the season. It gives us our first hints at some later plot points in season two, like with mentions of The Commander and Finn's first darkly uttered "The Grounders took them." It's a great season premiere, and a good place for us to begin - it reminded me a lot of what I liked about this show.
I'm not gonna lie, I had a hard time stopping! Season two has always been one of my favorites, and it's so tempting to just binge the rest of it, like I always have. But I'm also excited to stretch it out a little, and slowly reintroduce this beautiful, corny, well-written, horribly written, funny, sad, charming, heart-breaking, annoying, confusingly enjoyable show back into my life. It was one of my absolute favorites once. It'll be nice to keep rediscovering why!
Next week we have 2x02, "Inclement Weather" - see you then!
Tagging some mutuals: @laufire @bombshellsandbluebells @lucerants @murphystartedthefire (and anyone else who's doing this rewatch! please let me know if you want to be tagged in these posts going forward!)

EP 7 the Keeley is Hot Shit episode (1st of many tbh)
-- Bi Keeley from the start I'm serious. She absolutely comes onto Rebecca a million times in this episode and plays it off like a joke every time
-- there's gotta be a story behind that very pointed reminder about missing furniture. Has someone written that? Someone needs to write that
-- it takes them 2 whole years to get to that promised pillow fight, but we do get there. Patience pays, my friends.
-- god i forgot that A. Sassy's name is Flo and B. She's a child psychologist. The fact that she doesn't set off Ted's early hatred towards therapists says to me either he doesn't know or it's only people who try to shrink him that bother him which. Given the full story of his couples counselor is 100% valid actually
-- we are clearly shown how Roy catches Isaac making sure that one player is present and participating during movie night, and i don't think Roy's retirement is for another few episodes at least. Us getting to see that moment is par for the course but us seeing Roy seeing it? I'm convinced more and more that these writers absolutely intended for people to rewatch this series over and over and i love them for it
-- Michelle is being really pushy actually about the divorce papers. He got them like 4 hours ago, he's currently working, in a different time zone, and travelling with the team in a hotel right now. She's really fucking pushing for this, and. And! Having her lawyer text him at midnight as well! (which. That would be the response of someone who doesn't want to get found out. Like of she were having an affair with her therapist the whole time and if Ted found out she might very well lose custody of Henry. So. Ted and Rebecca are gonna have A Lot to talk about Very Soon in the new series bc they're both gonna be jilted exes of immoral cheaters.)
-- ok yes I'm a tedependent truther but. The evidence for Ted/Rebecca is piling up too. Either that or they're literary foils which honestly is about the same for fic writers anyways lmao
-- man Ted getting mad is so fucking jarring, o can see why he made up the Led Tasso character bc that man really needs to process his emotions better holy hell
-- the theme of this episode being repressed anger (Ted's and Roy's especially, but also Rebecca's) is such a good theme that you'd never find in another sports comedy and like. Do any of the writers need a sugar baby? I'm just saying I'm single at the moment and half in love with all of them.
-- Sam jumping up immediately to take Rebecca's coat before she goes on for karaoke....
-- Ted having a panic attack to Let It Go bc he bottles up everything and never lets anyone see how he really feels and he's so fucking sad and angry and lonely and he can't let it go bc everyone relies on him being honest and happy and strong and ....relatable
-- there's a lot of psych studies coming out now saying that adults in this age are never taught how to properly process their emotions because we always shut them down before it's fully out of our system bc that's how we were taught, to wipe away the tears and keep moving, and i gotta say that's exactly how Ted acts here. He's not allowing himself to actually confront the reality of how he feels and so it just keeps building and building and. Well. We saw how that played out.
-- Roy is nowhere near my type but honestly that was so fucking hot of him. Waiting all tall dark and mysterious under the red lighting, snogging the hell out of Keeley without saying a word, then fucking off to god knows where.....yeah i agree with Keeley that shit would get me hooked, too

self destructing
thinking about him. unfortunately. involuntarily. exhaustingly. endlessly.
most likely none of this has anything to do with me. but I'm having dreams. I'm seeing signs. my brain keeps echoing new pieces of the puzzle I hadn't assembled before. my dreams feel prophetic. life feels a bit heightened and hazy right now. -
no. at the end of the day I am bored and feeling self destructive. -
I feel crazy.
I like to fantasize that this boy who left such a crater on my heart and psyche felt the same, even if it was just for a little while.
selfishly, I like to imagine that he couldn't get it up without thinking about me til he fell in love with someone else. which of course he eventually did. like people do. selfishly, I like to think that at the end of the day I'm the one who got away; the one who he really wanted but couldn't grasp. and selfishly, I like to imagine that he still fantasizes about me sometimes, because I can't help but notice the ridiculous resemblance between me and this new girl. in fact, most of the girls he's dated seem to fit into a similar box. he's got an affinity for mentally ill brunettes with funny social media posts, big brown eyes, and halfway decent asses.
but I'm not chill like she is. it's all I've ever tried to be. seriously. but being on two prescribed medications for debilitating negative thought patterns and crippling anxiety kind of takes that option away from you, for you.
the truth is none of this should matter anymore. he's clearly, clearly, clearly over it. and in some ways I am too, but I'm still mourning the decisions I made and didn't make with his heart. I wanted him so badly. I can't lie, secretly I still do. the dreams I had last night, outlining all the mistakes I made with him, gave me a lot more insight into the boy that I refused to get to know, for fear that I might have liked what I'd find. I just wanted to make him mine, to be powerful enough to keep him under a spell. what I neglected to nurture was the part of him that genuinely tried to bond with me, not just get off with me like everyone else has since. he wanted a real connection. he wanted a real relationship. Brie's a great settle. great placeholder, rebound, whatever the hell his motivation for deciding to fuck her was. but she'll never push his buttons the way I could. she'll never excite him, intrigue him, scare him, adore him, upset him, and love him all at once like I could have. to her merit, she's got a hell of a rack sporting cleavage that I couldn't muster with the most expensive push up bra I own. I don't know.
but how come now all I'm seeing is signs?
for example, I couldn't write on this page until 5:55pm. like. couldn't click my cursor into the blank space or type anything til the clock struck angel numbers. which I try really really hard not to believe in. upon rewatching the video of him gushing to me about his perspective on my appearance and aura, I spent a beat or two reminiscing on all the time he spent desperately, attentively trying to solve my mystery. reminiscing on all the times I carelessly rejected his obviously heavy romantic advances, ignoring the person in front of me who just wanted a genuine connection, and at the very least a friend.
of course this is how it goes. it usually is when you're a people user, like I seem to be. yikes!
but was I ultimately the unreachable one or was he? -
everyone in our friend group has ghosted me since the shit with tadd and londyn went down. and now my 2 remaining friends are in their new shared living space. I live an hour away in the closest thing to suburbia I could afford in Los Angeles. no real friends in town. they're all in my hometown without me.
going home tonight is gonna be so hard. gotta sleep completely alone in my apartment. my apartment is lofty, and spacious, and breezy. which I love. and it smells like roughly two months ago when I was in one of the happiest mental states of my life. when I trusted the people around me. I don't really have anyone to call. I don't really have anyone I could invite over and spend quality time with. I'm just kinda sitting in my bed, lamenting. ew.
I realize this is a moment in time that will not last. nothing does. there is immense comfort and grief that comes with this truth of life. but being so alone in this space is causing my mind to sort of collapse inward onto itself. I'm spiraling farther and farther downward every day.
the thing about my ivory tower is that the spiral staircase to the breathtaking view at the top is exhausting. and the elevator only travels down. it's easy to get on the elevator, hard to get it to stop on a safe floor.
more frightening still is the task of rifling through the files on each floor. most are unmarked, except the achingly obvious ones that overflow with bookmarks, torn, dog-eared pages, and agitated handwriting all over.
but every once in a while I encounter a box on the back of one of the shelves that I don't recognize. upon opening the box I'm immediately flooded with memory as I sift through the pages, photos and mementos.
but I've gathered all I need to start climbing back up. It'll take a while to get to the top. I'm not an idiot. but it's time to turn off the projector displaying my most regrettable moments across my brain wrinkles. while I still can.

OK, because my El Internado rewatch rekindled my Julia x Ivan love, I went and peeked at the end of Cable Girls, the other show Yon Gonzalez and Blanca Suarez starred in.
I watched the first season way back when it came out but peaced out after that because the story didn’t really click with me at all and they weren’t giving me the ship I wanted (I wanted Lidia with Francisco and they were going for Lidia x Carlos at the time.) Despite my desire to see Yon and Blanca re-paired that wouldn’t have been a deal breaker if I enjoyed the show itself but since I didn’t, potential ship was the one thing I had going and once it looked like it was not happening, my interest evaporated. (Side note - I enjoy plenty of shows Netflix buys which were already made but whatever reason I have never been able to enjoy any show actually made by Netflix, including their kdramas and Turkish shows and Spanish ones. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something about their stamp that really doesn’t work for me.)
Anyway, I peaced out after s1 and never looked back until now peeking at the end of the last season - s5. I was spoiled on general terms but still gotta say it was like a whole other show - when I bailed it was a fairly frothy take on period times with some feminist and glamour overtones, think Velvet set a few decades earlier. And then I am checking out the series finale and the women are fighting and being imprisoned by fascists! Carlos gets executed by fascists with point blank shot to the head! Francisco has to leave instead of trying to die with her to take care of Lidia’s two daughters! Then women do prison break and are off to a happy future and Lidia x Francisco finally have a chance at a HEA! Only psych the bad guys catch up and the women all get shot! Including of course Lidia! As anguished Francisco is left behind since once again - children!
I still have no interest in watching the show properly (if someone made a Lidia x Francisco cut, I would watch that I suppose), but (a) as a Lidia x Francisco shipper, I love the writer giving me the ship I wanted in the worst possible way (yes they are end game! Literally!) and (b) the tonal shift is worthy of a cdrama! It’s like going from Love In a Cold Climate to a gender-swapped For Whom the Bell Tolls!!!!
😂😂😂
PS the real act of emotional cruelty in this show was Francisco’s mustache at the end. Is it period appropriate for 1930s? Yes. Is it a punishment for the viewer nonetheless? Oh hell yeah!

Rewatching episode 2 to ya know gear up for tonight. And wow Jason really a started off psychotic huh?
My guess he dies in vol. 2 vecna tries to use his very broken psyche as a way in.
But also dating Eddie and being in the hellfire club photo like Eddie’s arm around your shoulder doing the devil horns with you.
And Jason just fully off the deep end tries to find you to get info on where Eddie is.
I feel Jason wouldn’t think twice about fully hitting you at all. Like he thinks your a freak cause your dating Eddie and like you already got the call from Dustin and are gonna go meet up with them at family video. But Jason gets to your house first.
Oh lord just him back handing you and basically screaming in your face cause he’s insane. And just kicking him in the dick to escape.
Just getting to family video like
“Jason’s gone crazy, Chrissy’s death has him on a witch hunt from Eddie. We gotta find him and I know where he’ll be” and cue going to refer ricks house, and a soft reunion with Eddie.
For real though I think Eddie and Steve are safe. But Jason, Enzo/dimitri, murry, Erica, argyle, Dr owns and Brenner are very much not safe like Erica’s a 50/50 on if she lives but the others I’m like 99% are goners. Maybe argyle is safe. But like again 50/50
yeah no Jason’s a dick for real and absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to beat the hell out of you to get information on where Eddie is, and just for the hell of it bc he thinks you’re a freak too! I fully hope vecna takes his ass down in vol.2
and I actually have a small fic here about reuniting with Eddie at reefer ricks place if you fancy reading it <3
i really don’t know who’s gonna die tomorrow, I’m praying with everything in me that it’s not Steve and/or Eddie! the only one I feel fairly certain about is Murray, idk why I just don’t think Murray is gonna make it out of this season :(
- hope

Beautiful Spouse’s Rewatch Thoughts SPN 06x08
All Dogs Go to Heaven
Ugh I don’t like this one.
“I think this is a hellhound one. We’ve gotta go through people selling their souls and stuff”
“Fkn raspberry sauce” “Fat Mack’s Rib Shack” laughing
“Why would there be a pit there?” “Is that smoke pit just for show? Because why would your pit be right next to the road? It doesn’t make any sense to me” “they’re making fun of twilight” “Maybe the smoke pit is mobile. Maybe they’re heating it up for the road” “How is he going to know what he’s going to cough up?” “Those suits don’t match” “If they worked for the same agency, wouldn’t they have the same kind of suit?” made a snoring noise
“Do they do his hair before Dean wakes up? Is that how it works?” “Fkn tell us or whatever. Jackass” “blup blup blup”  making fun of the car “just take your gun out in the middle of the street. No big deal”
“The family pet apparently” “Dean would make a terrifying FBI agent. Just smiling at you while he’s talking” “You could never lie to a face like that right?” “headlights” “Sneaking around with all that noise from the car” “Who’s he going to murder next?” “Oh it’s the fkn dog of course” “he naked” “Who the fuck is that? I thought it was the same guy, but he’s the pet dog right?” “That’s not fkn gross at all but alright” “That’s disgusting” “Is he going to fall out of the fkn closet” laughed
“Are they dangling a fkn steak in front of this dog or what?” “Yup. Something like that” “lots of dots” “Why are they arguing?” “If there’s another twist, is he just a creepy dog man?” “I don’t know what happening” “Why does Sam never have his top button done?” “He is literally on the children’s playground peeping into a house. That’s not a good look” “Why wouldn’t you just go for a walk on all fours?” “what the fuck” “uh huh” “nice” “phone” “He was doing Robert DeNiro there for a second” “pretty decent line for what it’s worth” “the bird is the word” “Fetch my dick” “Dean really likes talking about rat’s asses” “What was that for? Gotta psych him out before a hunt?” “Squeeze the trigger” “His eye is far too close to that scope” “It’s like the fastest way to give yourself a black eye” “Could’ve had the shot, but we needed more of an episode” “That’s how this works in Hollywood” “there’s a lot of eyeliner going on in this crew” “Is Sam going to blast him?” “Really?” “Juicy” “Hasn’t had enough practice with the long barrel I guess” “got him” “And they still get the dramatic ending” “🎶going to ruthlessly kill the dog in front of the child🎶
“I thought he died” BEEF BARN
“BEEF BARN” “How does one place an order at the beef barn?” “face”

Dark Greetings this Spooky Season Ms. V. Can we get a list of your favorite Halloween movies and specials? I know you have seen *everything* and I am trying to go beyond my usual rewatches this holiday month.
V. AIMMYARROWSHIGH’S CRITERIA FOR HALLOWEEN EPISODES
Does the Halloween element combine convincingly with the usual universe of the show (ex: Lizzie McGuire 2x09 “Those Freaky McGuires” is not good as a Halloween episode because it changes the rules of the Lizzie McGuire universe, whereas Community 2x06 “Epidemiology” is a GREAT Halloween episode because it manages to logically introduce zombies to the regular Community universe)?
Does the Halloween element advance the plot of the episode/series (ex: the reason Boy Meets World 5x17 “And Then There Was Shawn” is literally the best Halloween episode ever made is that it uses the horror movie tropes it satirizes to provide a CRUCIAL turning-point to the plot of the show)?
Is the Halloween episode in the forefront enough that it’s clearly a holiday episode (ex: HAVING ONE JACK-O’LANTERN ON A DESK DOES NOT A HALLOWEEN SPECIAL MAKE, LAW & ORDER 16x03 “GHOSTS”! You gotta go ALL-IN, like Bob’s Burgers 3x02 “Full Bars”!)?
Does the Halloween theme balance well between spooky and warm-n-fuzzy (ex: Criminal Minds 11x21 “Mr. Scratch” is too fucking bleak, but Criminal Minds 12x06 “Elliott’s Pond” has a joyous/celebratory tone to the ending despite being a genuinely scary episode)?
Is it generally a well-written, acted, and designed episode of television (ex: Saved by the Bell! 3x26 “Mystery Weekend” is seriously, not exaggerating, the worst thing I’ve ever watched in my life; Psych 1x15 “Scary Sherry, Or Bianca’s Toast” is a triumph of the medium)?
THE BEST, bar none, Halloween special ever made is Boy Meets World 5x17, “And Then There Was Shawn.” Period. There can be no argument, except MAYBE Community 3x06, “Epidemiology,” but I like “And Then There Was Shawn” better because the parody and homage as less… biting? And because I think it continues and addresses the emotional core of the regular BMW season better than “Epidemiology” does for Community s3. “Epi” DOES plant the seed (…heh) for the Season 3B major plot arc of Shirley’s pregnancy and Chang Deciding To Murder, but it gets some major minus points for mocking Yvette Nicole Brown’s weight with other characters’ responses to her costume, tbh. And “And Then There Was Shawn” is just fucking iconic. It is THE Halloween episode manual, IMO, if there were to be a textbook on how to write a perfect Halloween episode for your sitcom.
HOWEVER, I also have to give major props to Bob’s Burgers and Psych, as complete series, for their CONSISTENTLY excellent Halloween episodes. A lot of series that have multiple Halloween eps really phone it in after one or two, because they don’t have any more ideas for how to incorporate Halloween pastiches while maintaining the overall feeling of the series (tbh B99, while the Halloween Heists are excellent in general, is/has been coming very close to this line, and I think that if they HADN’T had to switch out the Heist to Cinco de Mayo in s6, they would have jumped their Heist Shark [and I think they know it, too, because it was lampshaded in the episode itself]) or they just straight-up don’t have any more ideas for what or how to have the characters they’re bound to parody or pay homage to a Halloween thing after they’ve already done one or two. And let’s be real: those one or two have probably been either The Shining or Rear Window, because those are pretty much the two that every show starts with.
Bob’s manages to make every Halloween episode feel very fresh and organic to the series, which I think they do have some leeway to do because of the nature of cartoons keeping the Belchers living a kind of loop of never aging, yk, but amazingly they’ve only done the “Tina feels too old to trick or treat, maybe? Nope, she’s not 14 yet, so there’s still time!” thing in a way that felt tropey once (in 3x02 Full Bars). They’ve been able to address Tina being 13/in 8th grade, and worrying about it being almost too late for her to keep trick or treating, in ways that were in-character and added to the overall episode in 4x02 Fort Night, 5x02 Tina and the Real Ghost, and 9x04 Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street, without me rolling my eyes at the screen and going “TINA, EVERY SINGLE SHOW WITH A TWEEN IN IT HAS ALREADY DECIDED THAT THE AGE AT WHICH YOU MUST STOP TRICK OR TREATING IS FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, COME ON NOW” which… at this point, is a Feat. Because like, I’ve POSTED over a thousand Halloween episodes, right? But I’ve watched and screencapped ::checks folder:: 3,905 Halloween episodes since 2014. Which is, um, a. lot. The ACTUAL BEST Bob’s Burgers Halloween episode is 6x03, “The Hauntening,” which is just… achingly perfect television. I know I’ve posted about it before (probably a couple times tbh) but the way that it aired originally back-to-back with The Simpsons 27x04, “Halloween of Horror,” so that the evening of Sunday cartoons juxtaposed eight-year-old Louise whose family worked so hard to scare her like she wanted with nine-year-old Lisa’s family working so hard to keep her from being too scared and make sure that she felt safe… reader, I FUCKIN CRIED. Little girls being deeply loved while also Spoopy Things!!!!!! IS WHAT HALLOWEEN SPECIALS ARE!!! FUCKIN!!!!!! ABOUT!!!!!!!
Psych, though, has the benefit of not really having any, like… central tone to the series? Beyond “friendship” and “having fun with joking,” tbh? So it’s able to do what a lot of series get docked “points” for in my Foolproof Halloween Special Ratings System That Is Completely Subjective To My Tastes And Mood, which is really just run full-tilt into parody and homage without really worrying about overall tonal connection to the rest of the season or series. 1x15, “Scary Sherry, or, Bianca’s Toast,” while it DOES fall victim to the way-too-common Halloween episode trap of making mental hospitals into a Scary Thing (they are a medical normality and a necessary thing for health for many people and should not be feared), is delightful Spooky Fun AND has the benefit of having Shannon Woodward in it.* We all know by now that if an episode of any show has Shannon Woodward as the guest star, it will by default end up being one of the best, if not THE best, episodes of that series. It’s just how having Shannon Woodward as your guest star rolls. I also really like, with Psych’s Halloween episodes, that quite a few of them understand the underlying thematic scope of Horror, which is “The Monstrous Feminine Is A Thing And All Horror Tropes Are Actually About Women’s Interior Lives Because Men Can’t Write Women And Fear Women Always,” yk, in a way that is neither TOO Actual Horror, which I am too afraid of to Do, or too trite and demeaning, which is the other basic trap that Halloween stuff falls into A Lot. Like, Scary Sherry is very much about women villainizing other women, avenging other women, and being in very specifically-female pain, even though Shawn & Gus are still the lens through which we solve the mystery, and so are 4x04 The Devil Is In The Details And The Upstairs Bedroom and 6x03 This Episode Sucks. But they give their Monstrous Females dignity and breadth, which is impressive, ESPECIALLY since they’re one-off guest characters. Also, 3x15 Tuesday the 17th is just plain funny and well-done, like, just give it props for the title alone.
*(Speaking of Shannon Woodward, another amazingly good Halloween episode is Raising Hope 4x07, “Murder, She Hoped,” which is among my very favorite Rear Window homage episodes and has probably the funniest gag in ANY Rear Window ep, in Martha Plimpton floating across the screen in the Grace Kelly silk nightgown and peignoir and announcing that it was on sale at Walmart, can you believe?! and honestly, yes. Perfection.)
Also excellent:
• The Addams Family (1991) + Addams Family Values (1993) • Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU WERE GAY FOR SIBELLA AS A CHILD!) • Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost (RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU'RE GAY BECAUSE THE HEX GIRLS!) • Halloweentown + Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge • Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire! • Z•O•M•B•I•E•S (to a lesser extent, Z•O•M•B•I•E•S 2) • Clue (1985) • Coraline • Corpse Bride • 6teen 2x00 Dude of the Dead • Arthur 21x00 Arthur and the Haunted Treehouse • Lamb-Chop in the Haunted Studio • Arthur 8x04A Fern-kenstein's Monster • Arthur 10x02 The Squirrels • WandaVision 1x06 The All-New Halloween Spooktacular (I KNOW YOU, SPECIFICALLY, DEAR @plavoptice, HATE MCU!WANDA AND I DON'T BLAME YOU, YOUR REASONS ARE VERY VALID! But this is a good Halloween special so I'm putting it on my list In General.) • Boy Meets World 2x06 Who's Afraid of Cory Wolf? • Ghostbusters (2016) • Gravity Falls 1x12 Summerween • Leverage 4x02 Ten L'il Grifters Job • The Loud House 2x40 Tricked! • Mockingbird Lane 1x00 Unaired Pilot • It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! (Classic, etc.)
I'm SURE I'm forgetting some that I'll rewatch this year myself. I'm a big Halloween Baking Championship fan, tbh, which is on Discovery+ now so I recommend that if you like mostly-relaxing nice people baking cakes that look like bats and such.
I'm also IMMENSELY INTENSELY EXCITED for The Muppets' Haunted Mansion on Disney+ next week!!!

which bmc scenes make you the softest bc for me it's gotta be most of the stagedorks scenes ESPECIALLY a guy that i'd kinda be into. mostly bc of christine cause her and michael are my favs (i love them all sm though) but also bc of jeremy because he is a close second to both of them. also vimh but vimh makes me cry a lot although nowadays i can hardly watch one scene without at the very least tearing up. anyways yeah which ones make you soft
i simply rewatched bmc and took notes for this and really got off track at points in the sense of sticking to What Makes You Softest but that’s how it goes babey
ACT ONE - in mts when jeremy is just having a whole moment being smitten in christine's presence while she's inelegantly picking herself up off the floor and smearing on lip balm and adjusting a skirt wedgie - jeremy and michael just being default that glad to meet each other in the middle of a random schoolday - michael hyping up jeremy's crush on christine and just encouraging this momentum to get jeremy to sign up for the play - ilpr.....that christine stops after like, the first two verses and goes back to her book b/c she doesn't figure someone's looking to listen to her beyond that but then she sees jeremy's still 110% paying attention and the whole rest of the song enfolds with increasing enthusiasm - jake doing that whole bit "all the pressure i feel to be the best at everything all the time" lmao classic stuff here, depressing content delivered in this humorousse way. charming moment - "leave me alone, i've had a bad day" - 2pg......when michael taps jeremy on the shoulder to get jeremy to join in on his choreo, which jeremy then does.....that michael asks if jeremy will be too cool for Video Games and jeremy just responds Emotionally Directly......we love the Favorite Person moment......that this song just ends with the two of them grooving 2gether god bless - jeremy stammering and Tics and Fidgeting when the squip remarks uponst it - jeremy delivering the Looking Pretty Sexy Brooke as awkwardly as possible and she's just like "thanks :)" - jeremy's own Theatricality coming out......hey hamlet - jeremy spinning around in place alternately addressing both brooke and the squip with "oh i'm supposed to meet my friend michael" - nice little detail wherein brooke signals for chloe to join in on her choreo - speaking of, v fond of the Moment jeremy is in on both their choreo......brooke sort of alarming jeremy with her whole attempted grande finale, straw and all, ft. the first instance of her messing with his hair so much she's just tugging his entire head around - cute that jake and rich have a sort of 2pg-esque handshake routine too - jeremy's "that's sad, what should i do" reaction re: jenna - rich's Earnest invitation to come over and play xbox... - "bonjour, jeremy" "ooh brooke!" and this whole exchange, her complimenting him, him laughing at "That Was French" and remembering to ask about pinkberry - love the whole choreo sequence/s in sync up, especially fond of his Moments with the girls, bumping hips with chloe (twice), hearing some Gossip from jenna, posing with brooke.... ;__; - the bowling alley performance art exchange before agtikbi ;____; - agtikbi......the glittery hearts choreo.....the whatever! the interlude or whatever!!! the I Guess A Part Of Me section hhhhoughhh ;o; ;o; ;o; ;o; ;o; that she pulls him into a hug and puts her head against his shoulder omggg ;_________; - brooke just trying to interact with jeremy the Right Way w/o any guidance on the bleachers and it continues to be awkward and funny....like comforting just his Leg while he converses w/his squip.....how she just ends up Physically pushing him around by the hands and head and shoulder and etc......whole situation here in upgrade.mp3 clearly less than Ideal but jeremy and brooke are nevertheless very cute individually And together - meanwhile jake also trying to genuinely Be With christine in upgrade is also charming lol, quitting archery to hang w/a girl like her.... - i always love when the Playful Shove brooke gives jeremy at "but at the mall, you looked at me" pushes him back a whole few steps....this moment of them truly Getting each other sans anyone else's interference.....tres magnifique - jeremy being That psyched to see michael for the first time (in like, less than one full day lol)....michael being That psyched just hearing that jeremy's cool scifi thing worked out after all - lgw ;_________________________; - like i'm some normal, handsome guy..... - giving us All that silence after "The Problem Has Always Been Me" - the whole bit where he launches into the "I'm Not The [series of insults]" and i've realized it's really especially a stretch to say i'm Soft for these moments in lgw but i Am vulnerable and that's its power. little 1" tall will roland on my screen here just made me shed a real tear doing That.....
ACT TWO - brooke's Howl at the end of her verse lmawooo - oughhh jeremy and brooke Greeting each other at the party too, jeremy unable to disappoint her and going for the Real Compliment, just v charming. rip - jake and jeremy's danceoff lol hell yes and then jake just having Misunderstood the costume plan between him and christine lol - the squip getting in on the dancing :) go you funky little ai - jeremy and brooke singing that last verse of Halloween v enthusiastically at each other, - again that jeremy is just genuinely glad to see michael.... - the inherent intimacy of singing mitb b/c your bff dumped you..... - AGTIKBI REPRISE..... ;______________________________; hhhhuouuuoh my god :'3 the lil detail that at the Height of things christine is Shy and turns away.....just. This Scene oh my god - soft in a vulnerable way like, rip to jenna where we're seeing chloe's Lack Of Enthusiasm in accepting a call from her :[ - the Shift at the start of the pants song :] - and the lil mitb reprise during said pants song lmao, also always having a great time w/this concept of "maybe this teen having a rough time needs some guidance from someone grown w/all that bonus maturity here" - i wish there was a way i could help everyone but i don't know how so i guess i'll just do theatre..... - jenna being Moved simply being asked for the first time ever How She Is u_u then her being like "....Okay!" lmfao jenna's great - just have to say in whatever context i'm v fond of pitiful children there at the end lmfao the bass kicks in like that and we're having a great time - the audience always having that response to "all the way to broadway" - jeremy going "you came to see me in the play? :)" like, that he's processing the significance of that in the middle of these Very Raised Stakes - i'm soft for will roland's vocal glitching mouth noises live every night!!! - jeremy like "ha! >:)" flipping his squip off after he's successfully Apologized lmfaoooo love him - but then having that real And I'm Stronger Than You Think I Am victory like :'| - that michael's been by like a ton btw during jeremy's probably somewhat concerning coma. also cherish the lil dance he does while they're celebrating mr. heere's bepantsedness - jake and jeremy sharing a Dab - and just the Popular Kids actively seeking him out to help re: christine b/c they just Want To Be Supportive.....very nice - this vimh interlude or whatever with christine and jeremy like jlsdfhh i think of this all the time - me and the voices in my head have made up our collective mind ;__; what do they say we should do ;______; and the Woohoo! ;_______________; - huoughh kiss and you KNOW especially the [jeremy spinning away in sheer enthusiasm] of 2.0 just KILLS THE MAN ;O; - jeremy not missing a beat despite the squip's interruption leeet's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - the more than survive na na na na na na na na na na na's but they're all So, and jeremy ending With everyone but also there with Himself and it's so Good and Everything Wants What Vimh Has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hhrough ;0; - that jason does that spin at curtain call w/his excellent squip costume... - that in virtually any given curtain call when they get into line together there's that lil ritual of george smacking will's ass lmao love languages
i mean tl;dr quite Same in that like, most likely to inspire tearing up over something or other includes agtikbi reprise and vimh which is just like, again any finale wants what it has, and the I Guess A Part Of Me bit of the non-reprise agtikbi like Oof augh this is so cute, and lgw always Gets me, and while i was rewatching speaking of being soft and move-able i was also just continually struck with delight over various moments throughout, and noticing little details for the first time thank god. just Vulnerable the whole time

I am SO MAD there isn't more Shus content. I really liked Phsyc as a kid, just started rewatching it. Within the first episode I was like hell yes childhood best friends to lovers I ship this so hard! And then I found out it's a rare pair bc fandom is racist. Also JRR is half Mexican, and i guess bc he passes it's never addressed in the show and both his parents are played by white actors? How cool would it have been to have had half Mexican Shawn? Idk I'm only on S2, I would love your thoughts
yUp :) you’re 100% correct my dude.
(1) i get the concept of wanting to make a show about platonic love and childhood best friends, like it’s a great idea and i’m here for it and more shows should focus on these kinds of aspects instead of your basic forced romantic love story. but the thing is, if this is what they were aiming for, they... just didn’t do it well.
there’s a difference between friendship love and ... what shawn and gus have. (like obviously they have that too but it goes beyond that as well). if psych wanted to make a show about best friends, they really should’ve toned down the codependency, obsessive jealousy, gay jokes, etc. because, from my experience, that’s just not what a friendship is like.
storytime that no one asked for: i met my best friend when we were 3 and she’s been my best friend for 16 years. we went to the same elementary, middle, and high school together, just like shawn and gus. we’ve always been super close. but we don’t act like shawn and gus.
shawn and gus are each other’s only friend. they spend 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year together. they walk next to each other with their bodies pressed together. they touch each other longingly for no reason. they’re constantly just like... gazing lovingly at each other. they joke about dating each other. people constantly mistake them for a couple.
there’s a difference between regular long time best friends, and what shawn and gus are. look at any other tv show with best friends - jess & cece (new girl), alex & mer (greys), ross & chandler (friends).  THOSE are best friend relationships. that’s how me and my best friend are.
but shawn and gus are so much more than that. gus knows everything there is to know about what makes shawn spencer, Shawn Spencer. he’s literally the only person shawn lets himself be real around. he’s the only one who can see past shawn’s facade. the only person who has been there since the beginning and has first-hand knowledge & experience of all of shawns trauma. he’s the only person shawn really lets himself open up to. not to mention the fact that gus is the only one who is never, and has never, been deceived by shawn, whether in regards to shawns emotions or his “psychic-ness.” all of shawns love interests are kept in the dark. but gus knows the ins and outs of shawns personality - his biggest secrets and deepest fears. he’s the only person that’s been a constant presence in shawns life. he’s the only person shawn keeps coming back to. gus is the one who claimed shawn on his taxes. gus is the one who shawn can’t ever fathom not being in his life.
i know what best friends are and what they feel for each other. and this is SO much more than that.
here's a second story you didn’t want to hear: i met my other best friend senior year of high school. let me tell you - that relationship was so much different than what i have with my childhood best friend. we would go everywhere together and do everything together. people constantly mistook us for a couple. i talked about her constantly and she was the first person i would ever want to talk to if something happened. it didn’t mean i loved my other friends any less, but it was just such a different relationship. we were exactly like shawn and gus. down to the details almost.
and yes, you guessed it. i eventually fell in love with her. and when i told my other friends, they had already known before i did.
maybe you have to have first-hand experience of situations like these, but its really obvious to me that shawn and gus’s friendship is completely the same as me and my friend from high school, and not at all like me and my childhood best friend.
because, to me, you shouldn’t have extreme, unhealthy jealousy of the person your friend is dating. you shouldn’t be upset when they start dating someone. you shouldn’t sabotage their relationships because you don’t want to share them. and, obviously, i’m not saying this is healthy in any respect, even if you’re in love with someone, you gotta have boundaries, but. like. this definitely isn't something you do with a normal best friend. i don’t know about you, but i wouldn't propose to someone else and include my best friend in the proposal.
i don’t really know how to explain it, other than, you can’t really understand the difference between a regular best friend, and something that’s just so much more than that, that you end up falling in love with them, unless you experience it yourself. those little touches, glances, half-assed “date me” jokes, mean something. if you know, you know.
i guess what i’m trying to say is that, if psych wanted a show about best friends, then they didn’t achieve that.
because what they gave us was a story about childhood best friends falling in love, and never doing anything about it because they’re too afraid to risk their friendship.
and, maybe, if the show had been made now, they wouldn’t have been as scared to have a main queer couple in a show. maybe they wouldn’t have forced the only woman character with the main guy, just so they didn't have to deal with admitting the fact that shawn and gus belong together.
if they wanted the main love story to be between jules and shawn, then they shouldn’t have written shawn and gus with so much chemistry.
and even if i’m wrong about all this, if my idea of friendship isn’t correct, and shawn and gus are “normal,” then at the very least, it was a missed opportunity. a chance to have a queer interracial couple as the main part of a show. it was something we deserved.
(2) again, you’re correct. people go ape shit for “best friends to lovers” and “partners to lovers” and mutual pining, and all the other tropes shawn and gus embody. but, make a black guy a part of a ship, and all of the sudden, people say “hm.. i just can’t see them as anything more than friends :)”. because people can’t comprehend black people as rounded, fully developed people who deserve love. i can’t find it atm, but there’s this really good post that talks a lot about this (in regards to mcu, but still stands).
(3) again, you took the words right out of my mouth. there’s an interview with james where he explains why he’s only played white characters in the past.
also, here’s some more discourse about it x x x x.
in summation, shawn and gus are in love, psych fandom hates black people, hollywood is racist, and we deserved more from psych :)

- An American Whovian Reviews: 'Revolution of the Daleks' by Chris Shitnall.
• The Story Thus Far.
When we last left the Doctor she was partaking in one of the WORST Doctor Who episodes of all time. Turns out she's had, like, a billion regenerations -- and started off as a cute lil' black girl who got experimented on by some crazy TimeLord lady. Makes about as much sense as an asshole on my elbow.
I digress, after that whole REVEAL -- the Doctor is arrested by everyone's favorite space rhinos and sent to space jail much like Rick Sanchez at the end of 'Rick & Morty' season 2.
(Just not as good.)
• Recap.
The story starts off with a reminder of an even shittier story 'Resolution' in which the Doctor and "Fam'" defeat a Dalek with spare parts from a microwave. (Fuck you, Chibnall.)
Anyways, back to now: some people have the leftovers of that one Dalek in some facility. This one dude is tasked with transporting it and stops fer a hot cup of coffee -- which he chugs. (That's a thing.) Shortly thereafter, turns out he got drugged by the barista and she's, like, "Bitch, this is my truck now."
• I Loved that Show.
Curtis from 'Misfits' and Mr. Big from 'Sex & the City' meet up with some lady in which he hired some folks to "roleplay" as rioters. (I can't make this up.) He's, like, "Check this out -- I made these robots that can subdue rioters." (Where was he during the attack on the Capitol!?) Actually, Curtis from 'Misfits' supposedly made them from scratch.
Somewhere Davros is rolling in his chair.
• Political Disintrigue.
Mr. Big and the lady are in cahoots. I don't care.
• Elsewhere.
The Doctor is in jail serving her sentence and eating space brownies. She's got a Weeping Angel, Sycorax, Ood l and the Pting as neighbors. (Everyone loves call backs.) Laying on her cot she does her best quirky Matt Smith impersonation when she here's a-knocking.
WHO COULD IT BE!?
• Elsewhere, again.
We cut to the Fam' back on Earth. Yaz is living in a house that's a TARDIS in disguise; whilst Graham and Ryan could care less about what happened to the Doctor. They're, like, "Yaz, you gotta move on. However, someone leaked that footage of the roleplaying rioters versus a Dalek on DailyMotion -- so we should do something about that."
The lady and Mr. Big meet up, again, this time in some forest -- fer more expository conversation. I still can't be bothered.
Later, the Fam' just tracks down Mr. Big, like, it's nothing. Fortunately fer him, he has has guards -- and they shoo off the Fam'.
Ugh.
• Slammer Buddies.
The Doctor sees a Silence and then, say wha'!? Captain Jack is there to break he Doctor out with some doohickey he snuck up his ass. Turns out it's a giant hamster bubble that let's them break out of a MAXIMUM SECURITY SPACE JAIL! I hate this shit . . .
It's great to see Captain Jack, again, but this isn't worth it.
Only 18 minutes has passed. Fuck me.
• Exposition Earl.
Curtis from 'Misfits' is talking to Mr. Big and he's, like, "Dude, did you know there's, like, DNA samples inside that old casing you gave me!? Well, I took the time to clone it! I call it Squiggly."
Curtis from 'Misfits' cloned a Dalek. Fuuuuuuck.
Mr. Big is, like, "Yo, get that abomination out of my face and burn it!" -- which Curtis from 'Misfits' hesitantly obliges. Psyche! Squiggly takes mind control over Curtis from 'Misfits'. Who didn't see that coming!?
• Elsewhere: Part 3.
The Doctor and Captain Jack SOMEHOW just get back to the TARDIS like it's nothing. Fer some reason the Doctor is a bit of a jerk to Jack eventhough he just got her ungrateful ass out of Space Prison.
She's, like, "I gotta find my REAL friends." and meets back up with the Fam'. Yaz gets wet and Jack flirts with Graham. Turns out the Doctor has been gone fer a little less than a year. Cool. They get straight to the point and are, like, "Daleks are back. You know, the same aliens that tried to conquer Earth in series 2 and 4. Oh, no one remembers that?"
Fuck you, Chibnall.
• Hilarity ensues.
Squiggly somehow has a giant facility with other Dalek clones in Japan. Where the fuck did they come from!? Who knows -- and who cares.
The Doctor confronts Mr. Big and he's, like, "I'm 3D printing Dalek casings. It's cool, tho'. There's nothing inside of them. It's not, like, there's a facility in Osaka, Japan with a bunch of Dalek clones waiting to fill these up.
Speaking of which, Yaz and Jack are in Japan and they have a cringey convo about life with the Doctor. Rose and Sarah Jane's talk in 'School Reunion' this is not.
There's still 40 minutes to go.
After their heart to heart -- Yaz still has the audacity to insult Jack. She's fierce!
Anyways, guess what they find!? GUESS WHAT THEY FUCKING FIND!? The Dalek clone farm. Like, we weren't already shown this before. They even do a "Dun-Dun-Dun!" reveal fer this shit.
FUCK YOU, CHIBNALL.
• Facepalm.
Fer reasons unbeknownst to me the Doctor takes Mr. Big along to Japan -- you know, fer reasons. All the while, we cut to scenes of that one lady introducing Daleks to the public. No one still remembers series 2 and 4 -- or any other time Daleks have been on Earth.
At the same time, Jack and Yaz get attacked by a bunch of other Squigglies and I'm getting mad hentai vibes.
The Doctor, still back on the TARDIS, has a half hearted conversation with Ryan and tells hims it's, "Four minutes to Osaka" -- eventhough there's 50+ years of the TARDIS landing places INSTANTENOUSLY!
FUCK.
YOU.
CHIBNALL.
Ryan is, like, "Yea, I kinda prefer being back home than traveling in the TARDIS and seeing all of time and space. By the way, how'd 'The Timeless Children' go fer you?"
The Doctor is basically, like, "The less said about that -- the better." I tend to fucking agree.
Four minutes are up and Jack has and orgasm when he sees the TARDIS materialize eventhough he was just on it not too long ago.
• Git 'er Done.
Everyone's reunited along with Mr. Big as they confront mind controlled Curtis from 'Misfits'. We get more exposition as to how these Squigglies were cloned and what they eat. The big revelation is that they eat humans -- and I still can't be bothered to care.
Somehow the cloned Squigglies can teleport to those empty Dalek casings and proceed to wreck havoc to the masses. I will NEVER grow tired of Daleks massacaring people. "EXTERMINATE!"
(I finally have a non ironic smile on my face.)
Squiggly kills Curtis from 'Misfits' and the only one to give a shit is Mr. Big. The Doctor tries her best at a, "I am the Doctor and I save people!" speech which falls flat. She's got a plan, tho'!
She beeps up real Daleks -- and she's, like, "These REAL Daleks are gonna kill those fake Daleks! It's okay if they come -- fer REASONS they wont kill any humans. Just these fake Daleks. The story demands it."
• Invasion of the Dalek Snatchers.
We finally get the revolution in "Revolution of the Daleks". The real Daleks are, like, "Y'all, mother fuckers, are impure!" All the while, Mr. Big is, like, "I like these real Daleks. I wanna be friends with them -- you know, 'cause I'm a bad guy. Take me to yer leader." (That last bit was a direct quote.)
The boys leave the girls behind to go destroy the Dalek ship. We get some more poorly written dialogue.
Mr. Big tells the real Daleks about the Doctor -- which they should've been already privy to. Luckily, Jack informs the Doctor about Mr. big's treacherous ways and she's got another trick up her sleeve! All the while, Jack and the boys blow up the Dalek ship and the Doctor reveals her ruse. She sucked the Daleks into the spare TARDIS that Yaz was living in and has it collapse on itself.
Aren't TARDIS kind of, like, living creatures? They've been known to have a consciousness. Whatever.
• The Home Stretch.
Fer REASONS Mr. Big is considered a hero. Captain Jack is, like, "I'm out and I'm gonna go find my Torchwood friends. Fuck you guys."
Ryan is, like, "Yea, no more trips fer me either. I wanna stay home and play football with me mates and eat fish and chips." Graham agrees, too. So it's just Yaz and the Doctor now. I'm excited fer that potential porn parody.
Then we get a call back to 'The Girl Who Fell to Earth' and Ryan trying to ride a bike. I forgot that was a thing. They babble about facing off alien threats on Earth and fer other REASONS Grace shows up a, like, a fucking Jedi Force Ghost. 😂😭🤤
• The Good, the Bad and the Fugly.
The best I can say about this story is that Doctor Who, aesthetically, has never looked better. The Daleks inside and out were REALLY well done; and I fucking love the look of the TARDIS traveling through the time vortex. Unfortunately, that's it about it.
This was god awful. Maybe in time I can rewatch this in a it's so bad it's good capacity; but I won't be doing that any time soon. Chibnall has lost his goddamn mind.
Why is everyone so mean to Captain Jack!? I don't fucking get it. Graham and Ryan wanting to leave the TARDIS just 'cause they're, like, "Meh. It's been done.? Why is Mr. Big in this, at all!? Also, somebody fire that composer! I'm tired of his ambient noises.
Seriously, this was bad.
Zero stars.

just want you to know you're like hockeyblr's favorite person of the week bc that post you reblogged about blocking tk's name resurged again and I just gotta say a) good taste in men b) good taste in tumblr curation have fun
Thanks! I checked the reblogs on that post when you sent me this ask. I laughed. I think the version with my comment has gotten at least 50 reblogs which is kinda funny because I am not interested in hockey at all. Not that I have a real opinion on it, I just hyperfixate on things so I am careful when I try things out. I have to ask myself, “do we want this to be the focus of our life for the next few years?”
Also, I prefer fiction over everything else. Most things with real people allowed to act like themselves, I don’t want to watch. I like Chopped and some house hunting shows here and there. I know that reality tv isn't really portraying people in an honest way but I hate people acting shitty just to be shitty. I try to be a the world may not be fair but we can choose to make things fair as much as we can, and a starfish story kind of person.
With my hyperfixations, I eat, breathe, sleep the thing for a period of time until I’m not interested or I’ll sit it to the side, move on to something else and eventually pick the old thing back up. Like, I love sims and can play it for hours but I haven’t played it in months so I can do my homework or else it would be all sims all the time. I am not ready to add any potential new interests. I haven’t rewatched Leverage, Doctor Who, and Star Trek enough. There’s still some Star Trek and Doctor Who things I haven’t seen. I really want to try Psych eventually. Did you notice a common theme there? Those things are either finished (Leverage, at least temporarily), still going but have large chunks of finished content that stand alone (Doctor Who and Star Trek). I used to try a bunch of new tv shows but they kept getting cancelled and it was exhausting. Also, I don’t watch much tv. I’m really into youtube right now. I bounce between Bailey Sarian, Buzzfeed Unsolved & Watcher, booktubers, Simmers, Keatsdidit (I discovered him when qurantine started, his music and funny videos have brought me a lot of happiness), and Brandon Farris (v funny too).
Thank you for pointing that out to me! I hadn’t realized it until you said something.

sucks in a breath
if you thought i was done with my CATS bullshit you were dead wrong
rewatching the jellicle ball I Noticed that Alonzo, Plato, and Admetus join both Munkustrap AND Tugger’s quintet piece. Coricopat is switched out for Mungojerrie in Tugger’s.
S O
shoves up sleeves
anyway i got more Ideas for that whole “munkustrap has magical abilities” thing even tho i really gotta go to bed bc i’m zzzz but fuck me tbh
to refresh: Munkustrap makes the Jellicle Choice and Macavity was supposed to go to the Heavyside as a Choice
Alonzo, Plato, and Admetus are captains, so to speak, of the guardians. each of them have their own “unit”. the three of them oversee their respective units and have their tasks cover the bases that relate to what Munkustrap needs and what Tugger needs. Tugger and Munkustrap each have their own right-hand man, a combined advisor and scout.
ALSO SOMETHING TO NOTE (for myself lol) is that in the quintet, Munkustrap is in the center, but in the last row. in Tugger’s, he’s up front. that puts it perfectly. Munkustrap’s duties in protection are in the inside and Tugger’s on the outside. Tugger is the “face” of things, he’s bold, he’s up front and center, can’t ignore this dude, while Munkustrap stays in the background, watching, observant, calculating, protected and protecting.
Munkustrap needs Coricopat on his side of things. because they’re both attuned, it’s best that they work together to control the inner defense of the Junkyard. Coricopat caught on to Munkustrap’s static first, having a higher perception and strengthened connection to his magic before the tabby started figuring his own out. like Misto, Cori’s (and thus Tantomile’s) plane doesn’t align with Munkustrap’s. Cori and Tantomile align more with Misto.
i age Cori older than Munkustrap in this scenario. if Munkustrap is, say, 35 now, Cori would be 41. six years isn’t too significant but it’s enough to put Cori much higher in his attunement - and he did have a lot of practice and a good mentor. his relationship and usage with his sister helps a hell of a lot. unfortunately, there’s no tutoring Munkustrap.
in fact, he still doesn’t even know what his magic does. there’s something closed off to Cori and Tantomile when they try to pick at Munkustrap’s head or at his static. there’s a forcefield, for the lack of better phrasing, in Munkustrap’s psyche and if they try to penetrate his attunements, the static shocks them right back. he’s a total mystery and it puts both of them on edge. they were able to needle at Misto and other attuned, so if they can’t prod Munkustrap, that feels very shifty and concerning.
they picked each other out, though. Munkustrap could feel their static and approached both of them for a part of the inner defense team, but Tantomile refused. she didn’t want anything to do with it; the static didn’t set well with her. she tried to dissuade Cori from accepting but he eventually did. Tantomile’s main concern is depletion. she claims that being around Munkustrap enough seems to deplete her psychic energies, but Cori says he hasn’t had problems with it. it causes a bit of tension between them. Cori’s tried to reassure her that if he gets closer, he might be able to make sense of whatever the hell Munkustrap is. that’s kept her mostly agreeable so far.
so Cori and Munkustrap work together to maintain and keep on top of the inner defense. then the three captains are consulted, any changes made, and they’re off. Munkustrap and Cori’s relationship is friendly and upbeat. they like each other, though they remain very wary all the same. it’s a really odd place to be in. (not to mention how the siblings reacted about Macavity, and after that really strange Ball, or when he left..)
on the other side, the three captains also look to Tugger. Tugger commands the outside defense. that’s the perimeter of the Junkyard territory and beyond into the streets. he and Mungojerrie go back quite a ways. they even call each other best friends. being so forward, outgoing, congenial, and silver tongued, they can utilize their particular strains of it to their benefit. this isn’t to say that they’re 100% conscious of it the entire time. both of them have their moments in which they purposefully use their best weapons to get somewhere. they have the gift of the gab and differing swaggers that are, honestly, moldable.
Tugger relies on Mungojerrie and his connections across the grapevine. meanwhile, Tugger does his own means of protection by doing the same thing - but more face to face. he’s a charmer, that one. Mungojerrie is too, but again, it comes down to their distinct brands of it. from here, Tugger can pull the captains together and let them know what’s going on so they can reassign roles appropriately.
interestingly Tugger’s role as a tactician and protector goes unnoticed within the tribe - and that’s intentional. for all everyone else knows, he and Munkustrap share their close friends and, of course, Tugger is closer to Mungojerrie and Munkustrap, Coricopat. it’s no big. they’re all buddies. keeping Munkustrap the forefront leader for the protectors allows the focus to be trained on him. Tugger and Mungojerrie are looked at only for what they’ve made themselves, and so go otherwise unnoticed and unsuspected.
it works very well.
Tugger is not attuned. he doesn’t have any static, no magic, nothing. he can’t feel it from his brother or any other magic user, no matter how close he is to them. non-attuned can’t feel attuned at all.
while everyone knows that Coricopat, Tantomile, and Misto (with the common knowledge of Macavity aside) are magic users, no one has an inkling that Munkustrap is at all. it’s for his, and the Jellicles’, safety. not to mention that his attunement is so goddamn essential and honesty, very controversial. it’s a hard burden to bear. no one (else) can know what he is and what crucial role he plays.
So Tugger doesn’t even know that his brother IS a magic user. again, for the best. he was thankful that Munkustrap even suggested that he take over outside protector duties. it gives Tugger something to focus on, to do, to get out and about and doing what he wants, while also honing his skills and serving the tribe.
he really needs that distraction.
things have gotten better, but he’s still on shaky ground with his brother and father ever since Macavity left..
