I think people need to understand that when someone says the situation in Israel/Palestine is complicated they are not necessarily saying that the discussion of who the oppressor vs oppressed is complicated. The Israeli government has been oppressing the Palestinians for a very long time, that is clear, and it is not complicated to understand that at least since the 80s they have had dramatically more financial and military power to keep control of the territory in the way they like.

However, it is reductive and dismissive to insist that there is no complexity in the potential ways to move forward to bring peace to the region. Despite what people on tumblr.edu like to believe, "Israel should never have been created" is not a practical solution to an incredibly heated geopolitical situation in the present day. Israel was created and it does exist. 10 million people live there. 74% of the population is native born and the country has existed for 75 years. Hand waving these fact away with the opinion that "they should move back to where they came from" may make you feel good about being a Radical Leftist, but it does not give anyone a road map for how exactly millions of people without dual citizenship are supposed to just up and evaporate. Nor does it acknowledge the reality that 21% of Israelis are Arabs, the very people you are claiming to want to give the land back to.

Insisting that there's nothing complicated about expecting an entire country's population to willingly dissappear with no consequences is not a productive way to think about this conflict. It ignores the many massive superpowers that have an interest in proping up different states in the region, the power dynamics involved in any land back movements, and the inevitably negative consequences of totally dissolving an established state without a plan. It is also completely and almost comically unrealistic, so much so that it makes it hard to believe that anyone who's opinion starts and ends with this idea really gives a shit about anyone who lives in the area as much as they care about their online leftist clout.

There's nothing complicated in understanding that the Israeli government is and has been maintaining an oppressive apartheid state for decades. It is, however, very complicated to come up with a realistic way to resolve some of the most intricately entangled land disputes on the planet without plunging the region into total chaos. Not everyone has to be deeply educated on every geopolitical situation, but it is very hard to take people seriously when they know nothing about the politics or history of a region and yet insist that there is nothing complicated about it at all.

There's a lot of people on this website who are getting dangerously smug about their own ignorance, and are starting to go down Qanon type anti-intellectual paths in the name of being sufficiently radical. Not knowing the details of a very convoluted land dispute isn't something to brag about online as you call for intentionally reductive solutions. You can support the Palestinian cause and be aware of the oppression they have faced while also holding off on calling people trying to do real analysis and de-escalation work bootlickers. We need to get control of the urge to fit every global issue into a simplistic YA novel narrative structure that appeals to Western revolutionary fantasies.

it was the aftermath of the grand magic games, fairy tail won like they said they would but the little wager they made didn’t get forgotten. since the two split teams were forced to join as one, neither team could uphold the agreement. so as a tiebreaker makarov decided on an old-fashioned rock-paper-scissors to determine the victor.

erza stepped up to face laxus in the match “you got this erza! wipe the floor with em!” you cheered on your friend along with the rest of team ‘a’. erza nodded and raised her hand, laxus took up the same motion, when erza dropped her hand she had scissors while laxus had rock.

your jaw dropped and you felt your eye twitch “you got to be kidding me.” a chorus of groans and complaints came from the ‘a’ team, it was going to be a long day for all of you.

the ‘b’ team wasted no time, as soon as they won they got straight to business. laxus pulled out a map and presented it to the ‘a’ team “go to this forest to get a magic stone.”

“magic stone?” wendy asked curiously

“the forest is called ‘las puertas del infierno’.”

you blinked at him “let me get this straight you want us to go to some forest that is literally called the doors of hell, for a rock…yeah i’m not going.”

he laughed and smirked at you “that’s cute but you don’t have a choice here babe, you have till noon.”

“please i barely wanna look for some stupid rock so why would i-” mid-sentence you let yourself think, you caught the smirk he sent your way so he was sending you along with the exploration team on purpose. he knew you, and searching through a swamp for a rock was the last thing you wanted to do.

“you sick son of a bitch you are good.” you glared at him, he knew you well and you hated it, he had just what he needed to get the upper hand in the punishment game.

you slowly trudged through the swamp, disgusted by all its inhabitants and the murky water you were walking in “guys i wanna go home.”

gray looked at you from the corners of his eyes with a sigh “you’ve been saying that for the past ten minutes y/n.”

you sucked your teeth at him and rolled your eyes “that doesn’t make it any less true. let’s just find that stupid rock go we could get out of here, i mean lucy over here covered head to toe in leeches.”

“what?!” she shrieked while running around in circles “get them off me! get them off!”

“i would put im not touching those” you pointed to the leeches on her thighs “besides i just got my nails done these weren’t cheap you know.”

nastu fired a flame attack to help lucy with the leeches, while peeling off the remaining creatures he spoke to you over his shoulder “when did you find time to get those we just, got back from the grand magic games, and how did you pay for them last time i checked you’re dirt broke like the rest of us.”

lucy slapped his head “speak for yourself!” lucy had rent to pay so she could be anything she wanted but dirt broke, she's been taking jobs back to back just to pay her rent.

you shrugged "you have your strengths and i have mine, and i happen to have a bottomless wallet on my side."

happy snickered behind his paws “yeah a bottomless wallet who’s in loveee”

you whipped your neck around and yelled at happy “can it cat!” unfortunately for you he continued giggling floating off to be by natsu.

after walking through the swamp for what felt like hours, when it reality it was a long hour and thirty minutes you finally found the stone. thanks to gray and his unfortunate set of circumstances.

when you finally returned to the guild and returned the stone just for it to be used for a makeshift jacuzzi, you and lucy shared a single glance that spoke volumes.

your eyes took in laxus' chiseled body going lower and lower until your eyes rested on his happy trail, you were no stranger to this sight but it still did the job for you every time, too busy admiring his body you didn’t notice him looking at you with a lazy grin on his face “my eyes are up here y/n.”

his voice snapped you out of your daze “hm? oh yeah sure whatever.” you looked away from him ignoring the snickers coming from the remainder of the b team.

it came time for the b team to pick members from the a team. cana took wendy, mira took erza, gajeel took lucy, and unsurprisingly juvia took gray. you, elfman and natsu unfortunately got stuck with laxus.

you were stuck tending to laxus and the thunder legion by the jacuzzi while he sent natsu and elfman on a while goose chase for milk and bread, you rose a brow as they ran out of the guild for the items.

“y/n.” he smirked at you as he spoke, he pointed to his shoulder with his thumb “i want you to give me a massage if you don’t mind.”

you resisted the urge to roll your eyes ‘if you don’t mind’ he says, like you had a choice in the first place.

you flashed him a fake smile “gee i would have too but i don’t have a swimsuit! what if i fell in? we wouldn’t want that now would we?” you knew there was no proper way to get out of this, but even if you could stall a little you would be fine.

“i could get you a swimsuit y/n.” evergreen chipped in with a smile

you immediately turned around to face her “say what now?”

laxus smirked at you and nodded towards the guild doors "evergreen go take y/n to get a swimsuit." you couldn't protest even if you wanted to, and you were a little irritated that you didn't think your plan through. after picking swimsuits with evergreen, which you think she enjoyed more than you did, you walked back to the jacuzzi where they were all waiting for you.

laxus gave a low whistle shamelessly letting his eyes hungrily roam over your body and then pointed to his shoulders "where were we?" sometimes you couldn't deny how much you hated him.

bickslow smiled and pointed to his own shoulders “i’d like a massage too.”

you scowled at him which only caused his grin to become wider “freed is literally sitting right there make him do it. you’re all dead once this day ends.”

as you massaged his bare shoulders, you noticed the marks on his back that you left from your last night together, rolled your eyes at how he showed them off and traced a finger on the red scratches letting your nail gently glide across his back.

he pointed to his shoulder with a smirk on his face “my shoulders are up here y/n. are you feeling okay you’re out of it today?” he chuckled as he felt you glaring him down, as you massaged his shoulders you occasionally moved your hands to the base of his neck, longing to put your hands around his neck and clutch.

evergreen nudged the boys knowing it was their cue to leave, evergreen sent you a wink over her shoulder as she left with bickslow and freed "try to act civil you two we're in the guild after all."

within seconds laxus pulled you onto his lap clearly ignoring evergreen's words of wisdom. he rested his hands on your waist to support you, and he smiled up at you with a gleam in his eyes. his hands roamed your body as they moved down to your hips, he pulled you closer to him your body was flush against his and he whispered in your ear “that was a dirty move you pulled using your nails like that.” his voice sent shivers down your spine, the way he whispered those words just for you to hear despite the empty room, if there was one thing he knew how to do it was how to leave an effect on you.

you fiddled with the hair on the nape of his neck knowing how it affects him “it was just a harmless massage, you were the one who told me to give you one after all.” you gently dragged your nails from his neck into his hair, grazing your nails into his scalp, grinning when he hummed at your touch.

“you play a dangerous game y/n. we’ve got a couple more hours till the day ends let’s make it count.”

SO THIS IS MY INV VS SAINT AU!! It started as a shitpost and uh. Spiralled. Out of control. And now it’s genuine lol.

Enot and Saint are basically mortal enemies, and Saint needs to get Enot OUT OF THE CYCLES in order to continue his work, because this damn horny bastard won’t stop hunting him down…for some reason. Isn’t ascension the greatest gift you can bestow upon the creatures suffering in this barren wasteland? At least Saint thinks that. Inv, on the other hand, does not.

Enot stumbles upon Pebbles while passing through the silent construct, trying to find food one day. He takes a liking to this half-dead pink toaster, bringing him scraps of fabric as blankets and lanterns, and the best part…talking to him. Inv, somehow, can talk to iterators. And despite Pebbles’ very limited ability to reply, he does appreciate the company, and slowly the cycles become less agonizing. Pebbles has a friend. However, when Saint finds him, his immediate reaction is to attempt to ascend him—and he is tackled by a very angry slugcat, hissing and spitting at him in defence of its friend.

When Saint attempts to ascend him, he misses, just barely clipping Enot’s tail and glitching him half-out of reality. He then realizes, to his horror, that his karma seems to be draining. Whatever the hell this thing is, it’s dangerous, and Saint retreats to restore his karma (and heal some of the nasty wounds Enot gave him).

Inv turns back to see Pebbles, staring at him in pure fear, before he simply whispers out a “Thank…you…”. And that’s when Inv makes it his mission to save Pebbles (and everyone else) from Saint.

This leads to Inv running around the map, hot on Saint’s heels, trying to get any and all the iterators to figure out a way to get off their damn strings and LIVE again! Most of them are collapsed or semi-collapsed, so it’ll be an uphill battle, but when a glitchy, teleporting slugcat with the ability to speak tells you to do something…you’d be kinda inclined to do it.

Anyways the reason Enot can’t be ascended is because he is happy to give in to every single one of the great taboos. Wrath, Lust, Friendship, Gluttony, and Self Preservation. He revels in them. And if he can help the others experience them, and become happy with living again, they’ll be immune too! Also he is ridiculously OP to the point of him basically just having DevTools active because I think it’s Funny. He can glitch-teleport and drains the karma of beings around him. He also talks super casually and I think it’s funny.

A little bit of their dynamic hehe:

“Hey, pal!”

“I would like you to stop calling me that, please. You may call me the Saint.”

“Ahah. Not happening.”

“You are incredibly disrespectful.”

“Hey man, I’m not the one calling myself a saint but then running around killing shit and acting like it’s a good thing.”

“You use such vulgar words. I ascend beings, freeing them from the torment of these endless cycles. It is my purpose.”

“Even the ones who don’t want to go? Bro, you don’t even ask. The last robot you almost merked was screaming “no wait” at you, and you still think you’re in the right here? You’re not some kind of righteous saint, that’s called being a fuckin’ serial killer.”

“You do not understand what you are talking about!”

“Whoa, buddy! Are you gettin’ mad? Ain’t that…a lil taboo? PFFT look at your face!”

“I am not tolerating this any longer. Goodbye.”

Bell's Hells had a mental health crisis on the eve of their deployment to the global crisis front lines, and went to a HAG for help. Protected only by being with her granddaughter (mob boss's granddaughter core). Specifically one who delights in voyeurism of bumbling awkwardness and failure. She treats people like her own personal soap opera. Allura said she's known to feed off misery. They tell Mori her intervention could influence the entire fate of the gods and the world.

FCG makes a deal with the hag and ASKS to have their memory wiped so they'd get to be surprised about what happens. Likely the payment was them being sufficiently interesting and dramatic for her because they implicitly trust her to help them.

The hag then tosses a magic lens into an ordinary feywild ravine with three magically enforced rules: they must bring her the lens to win. If they speak truths, a path will appear upwards. If they tell lies a new thing will go wrong for them. She then watches them escalate her high-stakes truth or dare game into telling each other their rawest internal shit they were keeping to themselves but were coloring their feelings. Fair or not. They do this remarkably willingly under her trap.

Then she sets them up on a video game platformer challenge where you have to physically navigate a path overa casm blind protected only by your friends in co-op chat looking the map. She sets up thunder hornets nests to punish themIf they have natural human reactions of concern. They win two rounds and then lose one. So she makes a new rule that they can take the loss (and unknown consequences) or try one more time but instead of it being safe game rules it's now potentially deadly. They agree. This time they win through expert teamwork and suppressing their emotions.

Last the hag sets them up with a game of TF2 vs. a spy team but no one knows who's missing. They have to capture three briefcases while KNOWING some of their team mates are working against them. Orym has to execute those contingency plans while uncovering whose a traitor and who's actually on his side but as sketchy as usual.

This is what they've all discussed as their nightmare scenario. This is what they are so afraid to go through that the misery is tearing them apart. She's forcing them to go through the thing they least want to face. As a practice run. Because the fear underneath is not just of betrayal, but failure. That if they can't work together they will fail to save the world, and thus everyone in the world. What's that really look like if that happened and you could lose for real? And not know what happens to them if they fail.

Some A+ reality TV content produced by Mori Entertainment. They might win an Exandrian daytime Emmy. Look at all that abject bubbling missery being created. An incredible feast willingly given. All they have to do is be normal for them in her vicinity and they basically asked her to feed off them as a favor to try an unsanctioned new therapy method on humanoid subjects. If she does nothing to hurt them except giving them games they asked for, she still gets a gourmet meal.

Nana Mori is simultaneously being a doting grandmother and a terrifying fey nightmare and Bell's Hells are like "please grandmother I think your death traps could fix me."

Will dopplegangers fix them? That remains to be seen. Depends on how they handle it. But they'll have a trial run to know for sure. That gives them time to break for real or adjust. Mori IS the fate stitcher, and thread came to her begging to be sewn. She plucks the strings that she finds most interesting. And whatever else they are, Bell's Hells are very interesting.

Well, first of all, I have to thank @yridenergyridenergy for selling me the ticket! It was literally the best experience I had throughout the year; I really, really, sincerely appreciate it.

As promised, this is my repo of the gig in Wakayama. To be honest, I’m really a bad recorder as I can only recall the sensation or vibe in general and forget the details every time. Am I the only one?? Anyway, I guess my drawings may not be precise at all and it would be more like a summary of the year.

And this repo will be focusing on Kaoru, Toshiya and Kyo. I’m sorry but I stood on the left in both times.

Kaoru

It’s so strange that I can easily feel my love for him grows with time and what a coincidence! I visited them twice this year and I was right in front of him every time. I always assumed that I would be in front of Toshiya when I checked the hall map in December, but no! It was Kaoru again! It kinda shocked me the time I located my seat and noticed his microphone stand was there, just about 2 meters away.

I think probably it has been known by all of you, the show started with a semi-transparent screen showing some AI-generated footage(sorry, I hate this part). It covered most of the setting but just revealed some shadows. I could only see Kaoru, his side profile, priest-alike gown and silver hair. He looked so focused and indifferent and so good-looking…my hands are still sweating as I recall it now.

That was my first time listening to Rinkaku on-site. I got caught up in emotion when you could easily compare themselves in reality and their sketches in the video. You could see how much they have changed and it also just reminded me a lot of moments, staying at home and staring them on the screen. The real vs the virtual.

Also, at the beginning from the distance, I could only see some sort of marks on his chin that looked pretty much like piercings? It turned out to be his makeup; so brilliant.

Kyo

I didn’t see Kyo that much this time, but I feel he is that kind of vocal that you would fall in love with once you’ve actually seen him in the venue. He looked so nostalgic to me this time, maybe bc of the ghost face makeup or the fact that I have seen him too much this year. I also went to HK for sukekiyo this year.

The gig of sukekiyo was more emotional, floating and spacey (and less aggressive, obviously). Kyo’s dedication was so contagious. Although he looked a little bit nervous at the beginning of the Day1, forgetting the lyrics now and then lol.

It is interesting to see the similarities and differences between Diru and Sukekiyo, like looking at different reflections of the same mirror.

Btw probably he is the most inspiring Diru member to me I guess. Idk why drawing kyo always begins with a pretty satisfying draft then it becomes a big challenge to my expertise and patience ahhhh. But yeah, I can improve a lot after finishing it. So, kyo, thx? lol

Toshiya

I’m not quite a fan of his white outfit that day(the one worn in the pic of their tweet on 16th Dec). Actually I even failed to recognize him the first, waistcoat and palazzo trouser are ok but definitely not the most stunning look of him. It seems that his style is becoming more gender-neutral this year, with hair dyed brown, pearl jewelries and feminine makeup.

But I still quite enjoyed his performance, his body language was so beautiful (ugh! It’s such a shame that I can’t recreate it)and he was the first one going to the left terrace and saying hi to everyone. Toshiya is always the sweetest person in Diru to me.

I prefer his encore look more and he took off the shirt and threw it to the gift right in front of him

That’s it! I could have drawn more but, sorry I’m a perfectionist, these pics really took me some time, but I may keep going if I have spare time.

And I’m not used to talking so much on the Internet, it is embarrassing somehow.

The year of 2023 has treated me rly good, I hope it would be the same for all of you and Diru members, see you next year.

occasionally i still witness discourse that attempts to map a clear privileged vs disprivileged distinction upon the self/non-diagnosed vs diagnosed binary... well i just think it might be to everyones benefit to remember that such nice overlap does not exist. even beyond the like, getting into what ontologically constitutes diagnosis and what the practical effects of it are and what implications of it are wrt medicine/healthcare as a field and a cluster of institutions--which varies tremendously instance to instance believe it or not. "going undiagnosed means your problems are mild enough that you didnt have to seek treatment and/or are able to hide them to some degree and thus is a sign of privilege", "getting a diagnosis means you had the resources to seek medical advice and treatment and thus is a sign of privilege", well both of these are kind of fucked arent they. these are both rly odd statements that dont grant a lot of nuance and variety to human experiences huh. what about people who went undiagnosed due to misdiagnosis, economical status, medical discrimination, and so on. what about people who were forcibly institutionalized and people who cannot survive without treatment at all. what about the reality of having some diagnoses really fucking with ones legal rights in many countries and the avoiding of such ultimately outweighing any possible benefits that a diagnosis and treatment may provide. hm. what about when you attacked col my friend col whos col ress

Since my replies seem to be giving me some trouble, let's talk about this article you sent me.

See, while this writer did a great job of repeating the same tired arguments we were all taught in middle school history, he doesn't actually give any evidence for them.

"Undemocratic? Absolutely. That’s the point."

I LOVE when people just...admit this.

For example:

That’s why America is not a democracy. We’re a constitutional republic. The Electoral College is part of that

This is just straight up not true. Even ignoring the little rhetorical game of "not a democracy, a republic" (which is like saying a square isn't a rectangle) the EC is not the reason we are a republic. We're a republic because we elect representatives, rather than taking a general election vote on legislation directly. The EC has nothing to do with that.

The Electoral College has other advantages. It asserts that all the states matter, big and small. States are political entities whose elected officials are by definition closer and more accountable to the people they serve...This means states must at some level compete with one another to improve the lives of their residents

This offers neither evidence nor even REASONING for why the Electoral College would mean that states have to be receptive to their citizens quality of life or freedoms. It's literally a non-sequitur.

The Electoral College also makes sure that presidential candidates don’t spend all their time in the most populated areas of the country.

This one is a popular claim, but is also just straight up ignores reality. YES, the EC means that candidates don't just campaign in the states with the largest populations. Instead it means that they only campaign in SWING STATES. Two thirds of the presidential and vice-presidential post-convention campaign events were conducted in just four states in 2012 (Ohio, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa).

Why this is somehow better, no one has bothered to explain.

ethnically concentrated regions of countries all across the globe have seen brutal violence and outright war because their political interests were ignored by far-away majorities who ruled over them. The electoral college helps mitigate that risk by incentivizing presidential candidates to pay attention to all parts of the country.

Not only is "the EC is the reason we don't have civil war" a WILD CLAIM (we DID have a civil war WHILE WE HAD THE EC) it's also built on the assumption that the EC promotes candidates going to all parts of the country. It doesn't.

If you want the presidency, Democrats, win it fair and square.

And this is what I mean when I say the EC encourages people to treat elections like they are a sporting game, or some kind of Risk style board game.

The idea that the *same style of election* we use for EVERYTHING ELSE - govenors, senators, congressmen, mayors, city council, Railroad commisoner- is somehow CHEATING if we were to apply it to the presidency is absolutely mind boggling.

The EC and its points and it's flat red vs blue maps has made people imagine that states are political monoliths. That either you are a Red state or a Blue state and it's a game to see how much of the map you can control and how many points you can get.

This is how the country actually votes. No state is won by larger than a 70% margin. No county or city is 100%.

California had more Trump votes (6 million) than Texas (5.8 million.) Texas had more Biden votes (5.259 million) than New York (5.244 billion). But yall have let those solid red v blue maps rot your brain, and you haven't checked a single claim that supposedly justifies this ass-backwards system.

I do believe pedophilia is acctually a disorder and that majority of the people who prey/Assault kids are not even pedo themselfs. (I doubt my assaulter was a pedo as a example)

This one community of pro-para (not saying that all pro-paras are like that) people who keeps using the argument that since what they have is acctually a disorder that has no cure they have the right to keep talking and having their fantasies of real kids and minors as a form of "coping" and i think thats not really good at all.

I have seen a guy some months ago who keeps encouraging his other pedo followers to call themselfs maps and that "they are so valid for their atraction" on their curious cat asks, and i dont see how you can see reasons to be prideful of a terrible mental disorder.

Fiction ≠ reality

Having a real pedophilic disorder is in no way comparable to someone who Just enjoys to read some nsfw fanfics about their favorite 13 years old fictional character

You need to cope with better ways, using other types of fictionals concepts and characters and find a form to not keep feeding those thoughts togheter with a good support system.

Sharing your fantasies works of abusing kids even if Its just fictional, is a different case when the person making the content acctually has the real atracttion.

Xikers Full Storyline Explained - TRICKY

TRICKY VS FACT & FICTION

If there's one thing to take away from the Animations that have been released so far, it's this: Tricky doesn't care to be a reliable narrator or to be upfront with its intentions

The most blatant example of this is the release of the Animation "When TRICKY was", which starts with Tricky opening up an old, worn-looking book that contains a story we then proceed to dive into

At first, the viewer would believe this is telling us a past adventure Tricky actually lived through but, as we progress into the video, it becomes apparent that we're being shown a video game likely created by Tricky itself

In general, it's repeatedly made clear how much Tricky loves games of any kind

In fact, the very first time we meet Tricky in "Hello, I'm TRICKY", we get to see how Tricky envisions its own role in the entire storyline: a 3D board game with itself in the center surrounded by the ten Xikers members

However, that doesn't mean that I think we should just dismiss all the information we've gotten from the animations - that'd be absurd

I rather think we simply shouldn't accept everything we're being told at face value

TRICKY'S ORIGIN

When looking at "The TRICKY's Secret", one thing might be concerning to you: the reliability of the information

It's Tricky who's showing us this story, it's directly from a storybook it's shown us before in "When Tricky was", and it's now setting the stage for us which means this is simply the version of the story Tricky wants us to know

However, in regards to that I'd argue: Tricky kinda has no reason to lie to us about this, and that is quite simply because it most likely doesn't care enough to

To explain why I think so, let's dive into the video:

Created alongside humanity, Tricky lived among humans for the longest time, but it was never one of them

Instead, it was worshippped as a sort of deity due to the powers it possesses, though it was not much liked by humans because it's always loved to play pranks and just generally fuck with humans as a form of entertainment

Due to the unpredictable nature of this "deity" and its reality altering powers, humans began to fear it, believing it to be capable of destroying the world

Naturally, this made them wonder about Tricky's character - was it good or evil? Would it WANT to destroy the world?

It's at this point in the Animation that we hear Tricky laugh to itself - the concept of humanity being afraid of it, questioning its motives is amusing to it

It's becoming very clear that Tricky simply doesn't feel empathy, it doesn't care - it just wants to feel entertained

The animated figure representing humanity is now forced to wander out onto a black-and-white checkered ground - a chessboard (once again, we're seeing Tricky's love for games reinforced)

From here, it chucks the human into the black nothingness hiding under its hood where the figure is left to spiral into a world of chaos

We dive down winding stairs, fall past dozens of Tricky's copies, and through rows of giant eyeballs (one of which may have made a return in the Rockstar MV) and then...

We get to see something that gives us a clearer idea of Tricky's character:

One black and one white clad version of Tricky touching together their hands and balanced scales

Good and evil are balanced within Tricky - it's neither one, nor the other

Its actions aren't guided by morals, it simply exists and decides on a whim what it feels like doing without thinking too hard about what the consequences are for the players involved

The only thing Tricky ever wants to beat is its own boredom - the world's a game map and humans are the players for Tricky to use as it pleases

XIKER'S ROLE IN ALL OF THIS

And this is where Xikers come in: they're the chosen players for Tricky's newest game and we already saw how this process works in Rockstar

As described in the animation: "It gave children powers beyond what they could bear and prospered in the chaos."

After being chosen, they were possessed by dokkaebis - the protagonists of the Tricky House MV - which gave them the aforementioned powers

They also ended up on Tricky's doorstep, meaning they may just be living under its roof or at least visiting it on the regular - as sinister as that may sound, they're probably just playing video games 24/7 when they're not out to mess with innocent bystanders

Right now, all Xikers members clearly enjoy their powers and use them to wreak havoc and goof around

However, this entire concept also lends itself to some darker storylines in the future so it'll be extremely interesting to see where KQ will take this

One thing I like of Les Mis re: Javert is the recurring theme of Surface vs. Depth or like objetive reality vs subjective

Illuminism, the very thing Hugo defends in civilization, progress, republican utopia, the end of superstition and the embracing of science of reason and even in some sense actual light (as in, public illumination, mapping of the sewers, opening doors and windows, opening the doors of the convent) is a good in and of itself.

HOWEVER. However. There is a contradictory theme here of then accepting the hidden depths that we can't see. Javert can only see the outside of things or the appearance of them. He couldn't even feel Marius's heartbeat, and he couldn't conceive of 'grieving' or 'loss' as emotions he could only say 'there will be a funeral'. Because he thinks only in terms of the effects, or of facts (which is part of the discussion we were having of the meaning of fact vs right in french, 'ways of fact'). Javert conceived of himself as a limpid pool but he just now had to come to grips with the fact that he has a human soul inside and he is not, in fact, an empty object or category.

Illuminism is sometimes criticized for this hyper-objectification of reality through a very specific White European lens that doesn't accept itself as biased. "We are civilization and we are the owners of objective truth". This is when anthropology was created, when phrenology started to get super popular, eugenics as well. So another thing I think is super interesting about Javert and this chapter specifically is the open criticism of the illuminism framework. Reality is not, for Hugo, simply a matter of phenomena. You need to consider beyond that when talking about ethics. Pactical day-to-day justice is not real divine justice. Is lying evil? Well first, what even is objective good and evil? You can't simply impose them 1:1 on an imperfect world

and also I find that this is a precursor to phenomenology, but that would take a long time and way more research to talk about. Just saying that Hugo is sometimes contradictory and hella interesting and in a way is also forward thinking but conservative too. And that's why I can't just say Les Mis is this or that. It's not a simple novel and probably the reason it was so hard for people at the time to defend it in the public sphere and why its critics have a really hard time simply like. Having a super basic understanding of what the book says

Hi! I don't know if you can answer my question. I'm trying to write my first novel as a beginner (I'm writing it in my first language). Usually, in my stories I have a general idea of my characters but, then, they write themselves, I can't control them. Now, I'm starting the 2nd chapter of my book and my characters want to speed up the events and I'm worried I'll not reach the novel length standards. How can I take the rains of my stories without killing the reader's interest?

Characters "Writing Themselves"

Here's the thing... we like to talk about characters having a mind of their own, going off-course of their own volition, but the reality is your characters are not actually separate beings from you, with their own separate will and agency. It feels like that a lot, but the reality is you're in control of your characters and what they do 100% of the time. If your characters are speeding up events or doing things differently than you've planned, it's because you're letting them. And, almost certainly, the reason why you're letting them is because the course you had them on wasn't solid enough. You might have an idea of what you want to have happen, but you haven't mapped out a solid enough course for them to follow.

A big part of mapping out a solid course for your characters to follow is understanding stories and how they work. Stories aren't just a group of random characters doing random things. These people have to want things. They need to be pursuing goals, trying to solve problems, trying to change something. Otherwise, there's no story. So, the first step is to think about your characters, their goals, and their motivations. When you have those fleshed out, you can figure out the goals they're trying to reach and plot out the course along with obstacles and setbacks to make the story more interesting.
