Love Sick Sally with a Nurse Darling-

[CW: Yandere, delusion, metal illness, self-harm, manipulation, unsanitary. People in the medical field, feel free to correct me if any of this is super inaccurate!]

>Sal fell in love about two minutes into his physical. It took that long for him to confirm that the nurse that had been assigned to examine him, nurse [darling], was exactly his type: They were polite, but not too serious. Strong, but gentle.... Passionate, knowledgeable, dedicated, empathetic, caring, understanding, and level-headed with a stomach of steel... Not to mention the ability to make scrubs look good. 👀💓

>[Darling] didn’t skip a beat when they entered the room and saw Sally bare-faced, sitting on the examination table in nothing but the paper gown he’d been given to wear. They looked him in the eye and smiled warmly while asking him all the usual questions and taking his vitals (though they were a little concerned about his blood pressure being high, and joked about him having a ‘shy bladder’ when it took longer than expected to get his urine sample...). Despite the butterflies in his stomach and the smell of their shampoo distracting him, he managed to make small talk while [darling] gingerly (and thoroughly) poked and prodded him head to toe. They seemed interested in his ‘unique’ hobbies, chuckled at his bone-dry jokes, listened intently to his concerns, and they didn’t judge him at all for taking medications and going to therapy for his mental health issues. When he mentioned those things to them with a hint of shame in his voice, they said that there was nothing to be embarrassed about, “Your mental health is just as important as your physical health! It’s great that you’re taking care of yourself on both levels now. Keep up the good work, Sally.” ☺📝

>That verbal pat on the back was the last nail in his coffin. Sals head was so high in the clouds when [darling] finally gathered their things and left the examination room, he almost wandered out into the hall without dressing. After getting home, He couldn’t stop thinking about his appointment- about how kind [darling] was, how good it felt for them to praise him, the tension and intimacy he’d felt while they were looking him over, how warm and gentle their touch was (and how he wished it would have lingered and not been obstructed by the glove)… he found himself daydreaming about them, wondering if they'd thought of him since they'd shut the door behind them that day, if they'd felt their connection, too, but knew it would be inappropriate to acknowledge it, given the constraints of a nurse/patient relationship... Considering this, he felt the need to start coming up with appropriate reasons to see them again, as soon and as frequently as their schedule and his insurance would allow him to. 🤔💭

>Luckily, with his range of medical needs, Sal needed more checkups and minor treatments than the average person. So, if he plays his cards right, he gets to see a lot of [darling]. On those highly anticipated days when he has a visit, he makes it his mission to be the BEST. PATIENT. EVER: He’s freshly showered, arrives 15 minutes early, never complains about long wait times, has a few interesting anecdotes at-the-ready, tries to impress nurse [darling] with his tolerance for discomfort and knowledge of his own conditions, and always has plenty of thoughtful clarifying questions about his treatments and medications. [Darling] thinks that Sal is a very responsible person who puts a high priority on his health, but in reality, it’s all just an excuse to extend their time together and hopefully get off-track with small talk that will allow him to get to know [darling] better, or will lead to more examinations and treatments that will get [darling] to touch him. Either way, it’s a win. ✅

>Sal probably wouldn't self-harm as an excuse to see [darling], or at least, if he did, he would have to do it VERY sparingly and be VERY strategic about how and what he does. Since [Darling] is a medical professional, chances are that they could easily spot the difference between purposeful and accidental injuries, even if he continuously switched up his methods. He could probably get away with an occasional self-inflicted burn from the oven, cut from shaving, irritation from using household cleaners without gloves, maybe some mild food poisoning if he has a few days to kill… but eventually, [darling] would start to notice a pattern. If he keeps coming to [darling] with injuries they suspect are from self-harm, they might refer him to a different nurse with more psychiatric experience than they have, or, if it seems serious enough, insist that he be hospitalized because he's a danger to himself. No, if he wants [darling], specifically, to dote on him without raising suspicion, he has to convince them that he’s just clumsy- any injuries or ailments he comes to them with have to be (or at least look like) an accident. 🤫⚖

-Thankfully, Sal does a lot of adventuring in run-down buildings, forests, and in other places where it’s easy to trip or become injured if you’re not extra careful. Knowing that he can use those injuries as an excuse to get [darling]s attention (with both medical treatment and the story of how he got his injury), he attempts more risky climbs, braves thickets of thorny overgrowth, is less careful when he runs along uneven terrain than he would be otherwise, etc. On top of the treachery, all those places are pretty unsanitary, so he makes sure to get all those cuts and scratches checked out, ‘just to be on the safe side’. If he's particularly lucky, he gets to limp into [darling]s office with a sprain or dislocation, and the jackpot would be needing stitches, since he gets to come in to get them, AND he’ll have to come back to get them removed! (Bonus points if said injury leaves a scar. He has plenty, so he doesn’t mind having another, and having something as a permanent reminder of [darling]s skilled and gentle touch on his skin makes him feel all mushy~) 🩹💖

Bonus: If [darling] is a friend who is still studying to be a nurse…

>Sal is happy to volunteer as their pin cushion/ practice dummy. He’s got a high pain threshold, so he’s able to sit still while [darling] tries to find a vein to practice inserting an IV or drawing blood, and he has the patience of a saint while they meticulously go through the protocol they’ve studied for dressing different wounds and doing various examinations. 💉🩺

>Since he’s had to go through so many medical procedures with so many different physicians, Sal can give [darling] honest and constructive feedback about their technique and bedside manner. They don’t have a ton to improve on, since [darling] is a natural-born healer, but it’s always good to get a current patient's perspective so you can do even better with the ones you treat in the future. By the time [darling] has their degree, they practically know Sally inside and out, and are very grateful to him for all his help on their journey to becoming a REAL nurse! 🎓

-He worries about [darling] a lot, especially when they’re preparing for exams or have gone through a streak of difficult days on the job. They put their all into their studies/work and often end up putting more pressure on themselves than they should, so Sal is always happy to help them go over their notes, offer to hang out and do something fun to relax, or lend an ear when they need to vent. 👂

>Once they’re confident in their skills, Sal can probably convince [darling] to do a good deal of ‘pro bono treatment’ for the minor stuff he’d otherwise try to deal with himself. He (says he) doesn't have the money to keep going to urgent care every time he needs something looked at, and [darling] wouldn’t let him go untreated, right? Of course not! It’s their duty as a health care professional to help people (and friends) in need, and it’s always good to see someone who knows your medical history (and you) well and makes you feel comfortable. And, since they're friends first and nurse/patient second, it wouldn't be totally inappropriate if their relationship evolved into something more intimate... (a little taboo, but that just makes it interesting 😉)

Laws For The Lawless {RULES}

Read these before interacting! Please know that if I feel uncomfortable with ANY interaction, I will speak ONCE with you privately, and if the behavior persists, I will block you.

1. No romantic interactions if there isn't established chemistry! I will not force ships/relationships with immediate interaction, there has to be build up and at least SOME planning between admins before initiating a relationship! To that end, romantic partnerships that form cannot be solely for writing NSFW content. Romance and sex are not interchangeable, and it makes me very uncomfortable for a writing partner to only want to write sexual content.

2. Content Warning for several triggering subjects! I can and will tag everything that is potentially triggering, but I also will not shy away from darker subject matter! This includes, but is not limited to -

Blood, gore, canon-typical violence, body horror, supernatural horror, PTSD, self-harm, disordered eating habits, description or discussion of body augmentation, death, guns/weapons, explosives, use of torture, kidnapping/hostage situations, unhealthy coping mechanisms, unhealthy relationships, physical/mental/sexual/domestic abuse, substance abuse, parental abuse/neglect, themes of religion/religious imagery, characters with past instances of CSA, characters with mental illnesses, fantasy racism, internalized homophobia, gaslighting, mentions/discussions of grooming, victim blaming, situations of noncon/dubcon*, nonconsensual recording, sex work/prostitution, and dehumanization.

4. Don’t rush replies, please! I have anxiety and my writing spoons fluctuate all the time. Even if we are discussing the RP in DMs and plotting the story, I might not have the ability to put those story beats down into words that I’m proud to post. I write for fun, and it becomes immediately not fun if I’m being pressured into fast responses.

5. If you want to use an OC to RP, please tell me about them! Ideally, I would like an image of your character/their face claim and a written bio (any length is fine, can be a few sentences or a few paragraphs!), as well as their dynamic/relation to my character.

Note: Next-Gen characters or characters that are family to any of my characters need to be discussed before writing can begin to see if I can comfortably adapt to their existence!

6. My characters most likely will have some canon divergence. I will update my Headcanon Lists to make sure that all character information is up to date and accurate as more source content is released and (occasionally) reframed.

7. NO MINORS, PLEASE. I have nothing against minors using rp to develop their writing skills. Hell, that’s how I developed my writing skills when I was younger. However, this is an 18+ blog which will contain various types of adult content. RPing with minors in ANY context makes me uncomfortable, and I will confirm your age BEFORE starting to write with you. If I follow you and you are a minor, please tell me so that I may unfollow.

8. No IRL issues brought into RP, please! I use writing as a coping mechanism to escape from the harsher realities of the world right now. I do not want to talk real world politics, and I will not tolerate hate speech of any kind here.

9. I am not someone who has Exclusives! I'm happy to write with duplicates and if you do not want my muses interacting with doubles of yours please tell me via DMs; I will be more than happy to figure something out with you!

Headcanon A: realistic

He's a fitful sleeper due to frequent nightmares, leading to some awkward moments whenever bunking with other soldiers during his temple knight days! My friend Lani wrote a fun little fic to that effect last year actually though I think it's a trope that can be either silly or heartbreaking depending on how you frame it!

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

At the slightest inconvenience or threat of facing his emotions, he finds the nearest window and dragoon jumps away 😂 Which isn't entirely inaccurate...

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

Even after Nidhogg's shade has been defeated, he leaves permanent changes on Estinien. And by that I don't mean the scales and horns and stuff, I don't care for that personally. I mean the effects of using Nidhogg's aether and suffocating within his psyche have left Estinien more or less tempered but without any direction from Nidhogg as he is now just dormant inside of him. So he is plagued with nightmares, a terrifying bloodlust, and has to fight to keep control of himself. It's not without its benefits though, he is able to harness powers unlike anything he ever could before, but each time he taps into Nidhogg's aether it saps away at his sanity just a little more. Sort of like the basic dragoon lore for where they get their power but a lot more insidious and extreme.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

After he goes on his little pilgrimage to make peace with the dragons, he stays in Ishgard and works as an ambassador to forge peace between the Ishgardians and the Dravanians. He doesn't join the scions, he doesn't go to Garlemald, he has a fulfilling life by his own design without being further made to follow the goals and whims of another.

//SAD VAMPIRE REN HEADCANON TIME!!

-Part of the reason he hates Hideyoshi so much is that at the time, he didn’t have any higher status anymore, and quite frankly, Hideyoshi screwed over the common folk. He de-armed the average peasant, for one. This sucks for someone who primarily worked as a mercenary. Sure, he was a samurai for a time, but he never ages and needed to frequently move around to hide this fact, so social status didn’t last for him. He had to be adopted into families to achieve that. So, his primary means of work was taken from him. He also changed the laws around peasants freedom of mobility, which made it harder for him to take up work as say, a part-time farmer. ...In other words, it essentially forced him into sex work for a period of time, as that was about the only career that would work with his nomadic lifestyle. He hated that period of his life, so he really, really, really hates Hideyoshi with a passion.

-Ren spent time with a vampire “family”. In reality, it was more like a cult, and all of the lower members were kept obedient by regular bites (vampire venom still works on other vampires, though vampire blood isn’t really useful to vampires...). Ren... has no idea how long he was there. At least a year. Most of the time was spent in a state where he literally couldn’t feel sad even if he wanted to... and some things happened that made him very much want to feel sad. The memories are still hazy for him.

-During his time working as a prostitute, he used his clients for food. This lead to a lot of devoted regulars... who eventually became obsessed and mindless, doing pretty much anything for the high they felt when he fed on them. He ended up with harems that spoiled him and treated him like a holy figure, more than once, and hated every second of it... which is not something anyone would expect. (Although if y’all know anything about Akechi’s fans, they... could be like that. He didn’t have any protection except other insane harem members, either. Things could get violent and traumatizing very fast.

-Ren gets really self-conscious about his weight, because he feels like being heavier is basically advertising that he’s a slut, by vampire standards. Eating and sexual desire are linked, so it’s not entirely inaccurate... back when he was stuck in the vampire “family” they commented frequently on how thin he was and how little he ate, saying that “Ren” was a perfect name for someone so “pure”. In general, he just has a lot of insecurities and fears when it comes to sex and his own nature that only get more complicated by his massive crush on Goro.

Have some cute ones, to balance it out:

-Ren lived in a time before spices, sugar, dairy, and most meats were readily available to the average person. So he, in the past, has saved up money to get access to sugar, milk, beef, and spiced food. The first time he tried sugar, he legit cried because he had never tasted anything so good in his entire life.

-Even if he can’t digest it, if Ren hasn’t tried a food before, he’ll still eat it. He spent some time in Paris (and met Arsene!! :D) eating a bunch of bread that he couldn’t digest because BREAD GOOD, BREAD RARE IN JAPAN, CROISSANT YUMMY, AAAAA.

-Ren can tell what you’ve recently eaten from your blood. When he feeds on Futaba he tells her to please, eat healthy food, for the love of god. He can also tell when you haven’t eaten through blood, so he may or may not use the high you experience via biting to make sure you eat a healthy meal.

-Despite not having to eat once in 500 years, Ren is an excellent cook and loves cooking for others. He also has a very limited sense of what a normal portion is for someone, and ends up making way too much most of the time. He makes Sojiro and Futaba food sometimes in exchange for blood.

And a slightly naughty one:

-Ren has a kink for stuffing (on the receiving end), because again, appetite and sexual desire are linked for the vampy boi. He’s very embarrassed about it.

They say eyes are the windows to the soul, and for Layla, that is precisely the case. One of the talents of her immediate family is the ability to “read” the soul, in a sense, to gain some insight into someone’s heart, to determine how they have lived their lives and how their personal morality has affected their choices and the lives of those around them.

In Layla’s experience, the most intriguing people are often those who either have soulful eyes with every thought and emotion on full display, or those whose eyes suggest they have enough skill and knowledge to mask every such tell, and no matter how cold they might come across, she can often dig down to the heart of the matter to figure out their secrets.

Those with dry senses of humour, and those who show an appreciation for her more playful mischief, also attract her attention easily. She’ll work her way into their lives one way or another, usually for their benefit in the end, given how once she considers someone a friend, her loyalty is something that will last an eternity so long as they don’t deeply betray her first.

Though she also is often drawn to those with a hidden darkness, much like herself. Whether that attraction turns out to be a good thing or a bad thing in the end is left up to just how they act on that darkness, given how little restraint she has when her instincts to hunt are high.

What’s something their significant other can do to make them feel safe?

In general terms, the biggest thing is always going to come down to mutual trust. If she doesn’t feel she can trust them wholeheartedly, she’s always going to have some level of wariness regarding her safety, especially with the potential that always looms of her being weakened and unable to utilise her powers. Without her ability to warp reality, she’s theoretically vulnerable - albeit not as squishy as a human, but certainly more at risk of serious harm than when she’s at full strength.

Layla is usually the one keeping her significant other safe, as most of the time, she’s simply more powerful than anyone she might get romantically attached to. Not for the sake of her just being that powerful, but in that it’s more likely she’s with someone who, at most, is on equal footing with her than anyone even more powerful than herself.

Not to say that she hasn’t nearly been with such beings. At one point, she spent some time flirting with the Greek god Apollo, which, admittedly, would have been fascinating to see how that could have turned out.

The closest in terms of equal power dynamics she has currently is with Irving Braxiatel (@ask-irvingbraxiatel), of whom she’s beyond smitten with. Where her actual reality warping powers are concerned, Layla certainly has some major advantages there, but given his social and political power in the universe, she finds herself living quite comfortably in the Braxiatel Collection. And minus a few rather dramatic... incidents, she feels safe in her new home, and certainly with Irving himself. Most of the time, at least...

What’s the best way to calm down your muse when they’re angry?

If she’s angry while still retaining control of herself, give her some space, and possibly lots of sweets. Her tongue’s going to be a lot sharper when she’s angry, and she’ll be far more likely to say things to intentionally hurt others, whether those things are wholly true or not, until she calms down.

If she’s angry enough to have lost control and has given into her base trickster instincts: run. Do not attempt to calm her unless you want to risk bodily harm, insanity, and/or death. This is typically when Layla is at her most dangerous, and she’s far more likely to rip open the fabric of space and time itself to summon forth horrific eldritch beings in order to tear the source of her ire into the void. It’s almost always fatal, and very rarely a pleasant experience to even witness.

Osirian Hybrid - Doctor Who Expanded Universe (with refs. to DW 2005 for those less familiar with the Classic and EU Whoniverse when possible)

Layla and the Trickster’s Brigade (like the time beetle from Ten’s era).

The Osirian Court as a Temporal Power before they buggered off to another universe (plus how others have displayed similar thinking - iirc, Irving Braxiatel has a line about it at some point as well; also similar to the episode in Twelve’s era with the two-dimensional beings invading our dimension).

Layla’s experiences with a number of Time Wars, including the War in Heaven and the Last Great Time War.

Osirian technology that survived after Anubis’s awakening during Ten’s era when the Seeker (an Osirian servitor) sent out a signal to destroy and/or nullify any remaining Osirian technology in the universe that might have been protected due to being within a TARDIS (the Doctor has at least some Osirian tech onboard), on Gallifrey, in the archives of Torchwood and/or UNIT, etc.

The effects finding a quantum harvester could have on Layla were she to merge with one, and the potential consequences of her doing so.

role in a found family dynamic?

THE BRAINS

people are not so much your forte. you are more at home with thoughts, ideas, hobbies, skills. as such, you probably have to learn how to work well with others--but once you do, hey, it has its moments. while you are treasured for your ability to solve problems, people also have this unique love of novelty. when you break from your schedule, when you say something no one is expecting--that's novel. you are as curious and lovable as the subjects you study. you are family. this place is not the same without your witty comments and wry observations. you definitely feel more comfortable when someone needs a straightforward answer than a shoulder to cry on, but it's not impossible to give both. know that your family loves you for more than that, though, and will (usually) remember to respect your boundaries.

Important headcanons to consider!

can they use chopsticks? — Yes, and in either hand, though she’s most proficient with them in her left.

what do they do when they can’t sleep? — Layla doesn’t need much sleep to begin with, so when she does have trouble sleeping, she tends to get... extremely irritable and will either seek to distance herself from friends and family to ensure that no harm comes to them as a result, or she’ll actively go out to allow herself to give into her instincts to bring balance to the universe.

what would they impulse buy at the grocery store? — Specialty spicy foods, or just the ingredients if necessary. Given her sweet tooth, she always has sugary things on hand, so spicy things tend to be more of a treat for her. She’s particularly fond of ghost peppers and California reaper peppers.

what order do they wash things in the shower? — Hair first, then face and everything else further down from there.

what’s their coffee order? — Double red eye with 12 or more sugars and a splash of creme for the ‘typical’ morning. Any of those frozen coffees with extra espresso and tons of sugar and topped with whipped cream will be what she’ll drink throughout the day.

what would they watch on tv when they’re bored and nothing they really like is on? — History documentaries, mostly to make fun of them and how utterly wrong they are, since she usually finds the ones that she personally lived through whatever the subject of it is. Though she also loves science and technology documentaries, and will pay close attention to the theories to determine just how close to reality they actually are.

what sort of apps would they have on their smartphone? — While she does have a phone, she rarely uses it, so it’s mostly whatever came factory installed, with a handful of games and such for the kids that she inevitably ends up ‘adopting’ in one form or another to keep them entertained.

how do they act around children? — Layla has a major soft spot for children, and will frequently take to them quickly. If she doesn’t adopt them as her own, they often end up calling her ‘Auntie’ or see her as a big sister. She’s fiercely protective of the kids that she considers hers, and will spoil them to no end, especially if they’re actively aware that she’s not as human as she looks.

“Why are we letting that Thriller extra reject in here again?”

Turns out, Layla’s not fond of Laura Moon at all. She very much prefers when the dead actually, y’know, act properly dead. It wasn’t so bad, back in ancient Egypt, when the dead had the dignity to be properly preserved.

Now days, though? It’s all rotting away, being gross, and being an offense to the senses. Which given Layla’s heightened senses far above that of a human, is truly offensive.

The rise and fall of new gods is not something that has only occurred in modern times, as Thoth is often quick to point out, as the Egyptian Gods have had to face their own war against such an usurper once in the past themselves back during the Eighteenth Dynasty with the rise and fall of the Amarna heresy as the Aten tried to erase all other gods in Egypt.

Layla is quite familiar with the events of this war herself, however brief it might have been in the overall scale of time, having fought alongside her family despite her relative youth at barely a century and a half old at the time. If anything was learned during such time, it was her own loyalty to her family, as for millennia after, despite her general dislike of authority, she does acquiesce to her family's wishes when it comes to the politics between the Old Gods.

It is this very reason, with Wednesday's push for war with the New Gods, that Layla remains neutral in the matter. She does not take kindly to others - especially fellow demigods working on their parents' behalf - trying to sway her loyalties toward their cause. She is steadfast in her loyalty to the Egyptian gods, especially to Mr. Jacquel and Mr. Ibis, as well as those whom they consider their closest true allies.

Layla can occasionally be found spending time at the Ibis and Jacquel Funeral Parlor in Cairo, Illinois, assisting Mr. Jacquel with the weighing of hearts when needed, and occasionally helping both him and Mr. Ibis with the mortuary tasks as well.

The rest of the time, she is one of the more well-travelled members of the Egyptian pantheon, spending a lot of her time travelling America and further, so it is not uncommon to find her in a roadside dinner in the middle of nowhere, sampling their finest pies.
