“On my honor, my life , and my Jade”. Yaassss baby 🙌🏿😆! Okay let me collect myself! Jade City by Fonda Lee is the first book in the Green Bone saga. Jade City is set in Janloon, the capital city of Kekon. Jade is mostly mined and traded in Kekon. There are two clans – No Peak, run by the Kaul family, and Mountain, run by the Ayt family. There is a rivalry between these clans and both are on the brink of war with each other . The the magic system is so unique in this novel. People who use jade gain heightened abilities; speed, strength, and perceptions of people’s auras. However, the Kekonese are the only people that safely use jade. The Green Bone can use jade after proper training at the academy, and even then they must build up a tolerance to it. Some people are immune to jade completely and therefore are able to mine it and handle it safely. However , there are others who are not immune, and if they come into contact with jade they get a taste for it’s powers and instantly become addicted. They have an insatiable need to have jade and that need slowly drives them insane. There are more than a few POVs but the main ones are of the No Peak clan, the Kaul family - Lan( Pillar, leader of the family ), Hilo (Horn- fighter;leader of the fist), Shae (sister to Lan and Hilo and so much more 😁), and their cousin, Anden who is in the academy, training to be a greenbone. There are many layers to this story and magic system so I’m going to stop here out of fear that I will say wayyy too much! Fonda Lee did her thing with Jade City y’all ! I’m totally invested, I have my favorites and definitely some characters that I loathe, so now I must find out what happens in Jade War (second book in the saga). I feel like I may suffer in the end but I know it’s gonna be worth it 😁. I finally got a chance to start reading black girl call home by Jasmine Mans, and I’m flying through it. That’s the wonderful thing about poetry books, you read it, process it, and keep reading. I noticed more than a few references to the black mother and black female child experience and/ or relationship and it’s so refreshing to read on paper. For those of you who may not know Clockwork Angel is is book 1 of The Infernal Devices series written by Cassandra Clare. This series is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series. I really want to read The Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron but I wanted to have some background information about the Shadow Hunter world before I started reading those giant books😁. My April wrap up📚 I read the books that I wanted to read this month and all three books were amazing👍🏾(I also listened to the secret lives of church ladies by Deesha Philyaw, on audiobook and that one was amazing as well). Now it’s on to my May TBR 🥰. I’m currently reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert and I’m listening to the Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and I’m enjoying both books, so that’s a good sign right?!? 😁. Book review “I know trauma uses silence as a survival mechanism” Black girl Call home by Jasmine Mans. Whew 😅, I can’t express how much I love this book y’all. There are many topics that are discussed. From the African-American experience , to Kanye and his questionable decision making😁. Paperback or hardcover? That is the question.I personally prefer paper backs because I literally take my books everywhere y’all .When I’m traveling I have a book, when I’m in bed I have a book, chances are if you see me,I probably have a book 😁. The Hate U give by Angie Thomas is a book that I’ve seen all over Instagram and sadly I have not read this book yet 😯 ( I know , I know please don’t judge me 😬). I actually purchased the book when it came out several years ago before the movie came out, but I still have not read it ! I’ve had my cart for a couple of years now, and as some you may know, I used it for my planning and art materials for my planner page @ladyandherplans . However because of COVID-19 a lot our plans have been put on hold, which means that I’m not decorative planning as much right now. So because I’m not using my cart for planning anymore, I thought why not use it for my ever going TBR cart 😄.
