what are you reading and/or writing right now?
Hi!
I'm reading quite a few things, 2 with book clubs and one with a friend (another is reliving through our rambles), 1 TTS audio for the car and another just by myself on Kindle lol.
-crimson rivers by bizarrestars
-only the brave by solmussa
-blends by rvltn909
-second generations series by Ms alexwp
-some from remus lupin fest and others are coming soon on tbr @remuslupinfest
-Our Names Will Be Written In The Stars
(also I have last chapter of presque vu by bizarrestars staring at me in my email and I'm not ready for it to end, so haven't clicked. I have a whole list of wips as well if anyone interested, I could try to remember them)
**I'm writing 2 things (3 technically but I think my death eater meeting one will be abandoned bc no inspiration anymore). One is in silence between us series, another is based on this beautiful art but make them older in lie low at lupins era. (@lucigoo it's for wifey's beloved prompt ❤️)

Two notes:
Yes, I'm quite strict with my rating. I didn't have any 5 star reads this year! But that's fine! If I'm given a 5 star scale to rate, you bet I'm going to use it all lol.
Admittedly, the locked tomb books were rereads. But I still recommend them!

*Denotes a favorite read of the month. I usually have a hard time limiting it to just one, and these 3 just really got to me.
Some things to note are I really need to make more use of my KU subscription, and I'm glad to make use of my local library (esp since I work for one lol). Also, 6 of the books were on my To Pick From list, so yay for reading 2/3 of those titles!
If you do read or have read any of these titles, let me know what you think! Happy reading, y'all.

What I Read in April 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hadn’t been sure about this series, but volume two kept my interest.
Tumblr media
I think my enjoyment of Aphra has waned, so I don’t think I’ll be continuing.
Tumblr media
Heine continues doing his best to be a good teacher and ter Princes are just hilarious disasters. ^_^
Tumblr media
This volume was great! Lots of laughs and then really sad moments.
Tumblr media
I liked it, I’ve watched bits of the anime, so it’s nice to start the manga from the beginning.
Tumblr media
De-aged Train is fun. Hate this cover though.
Tumblr media
Go Nagisa!
Tumblr media
The only book I read this month, oops, got caught up reading harry potter fanfic instead. ^_^’ Anyway, I enjoyed the book over all, but did not like Anna or Grace, and Mathew and Alastair try my patience.
Tumblr media
Mysterious back-story time!
Tumblr media
This volume sucked me in right away. ^_^

Reading Wrap-Up (July)
Selenio “Breathe the sweetness that hovers in August.” Denise Levertov Happy August everybody! July has been quite a turbulent month, filled with a lot of hard decisions and important events. Although from an outsider’s perspective it might have been my first “truly free” month, it still often felt like the opposite, being caged in the expectations of other people (or what I assumed them to…

2022 in Books
Wasn’t quite the reading year I had in mind…here it is, summarised. Bearing in mind I had a goal of 45 books and finished the year on 27 I’m not too displeased. I intend to do significantly better in 2023 though. January Dune by Frank Herbert. I had been intending to read this for ages before I finally got round to it. It’s a fascinating book but my gosh it took me ages to read. I feel like…

My January 2024 reading wrap-up…
The reading vibes of January… …in March. Since I haven’t finished a single book in February (at least that’s what it feels like). And don’t even get me started on my fall reading list. However, January was quite a successful reading month, not least because I got sick and had to R&R for a few days, which gave me ample time to read a few light-hearted books. The third and last installment in…

Tumblr media
So I decided I wanted to actually be active in updating my reading this year.. so far I haven't done well as I didn't get around to do January - perhaps I will a some point.
The books i enjoyed most are marked with ⭐️
Tumblr media
The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab. I read this as a buddy read, which was a lot of fun. It's been a few years since I read the Shades of London series, so I had forgotten so much. I struggled a bit with that. But once I read a few recaps I was all good and reading this book was great. It felt really good getting back into a world I loved reading about in the original series. The characters are a bit older which I enjoyed, and as always I got really wrapped up in the story. Don't Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma R. Alban Lesbian Victorian ladies? Sign me up. This was really fun and really sweet. I liked the main characters, and the parent-trapping was delightful. I saw that the sequel is coming out later this year, so I will be looking forward to that. ⭐️ Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo This has been on my TBR for years, and I finally got around to it. I loved it. Beautiful story with great characterization. Following Lily as she grows up and starts to learn and explore her sexuality and finding her own identity this book did a great job of transporting me to San Fransisco in the 50s.
Tumblr media
Battle Royal by Lucy Parker A cute romance for people with a sweet tooth. The chemistry was nice enough and I did like that the characters were like real adult with established careers and slightly greying hair. It was nothing special but did it's job as a romance book.
⭐️ A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers I loved this so much. There’s something about this little book that just hits. A delightful a moving read that I’ll definitely return to. Dex’s yearning for something unknown and unspecified was so relatable and the book made me yearn for a world and a way of living - together with, and part of nature - that I’ll never see except in this book. Also I wanna be a tea monk so bad! ⭐️ A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers The follow-up lived up the A Psalm.. I loved it. I loved the character interactions and the world of this series. I can't wait for more of these books and recommend everyone to read them right now!
Tumblr media
Dark Heir by C. S. Pacat This series is stressing me out! Argh. I am looking forward to the next book. The Holiday Trap by Roan Parrish This was a cute queer romance inspired by the basis of The Holiday. A lesbian and a gay man swap homes for the holiday, trying to get away from their home lives and each find love and a home in the new place. Both story-lines were sweet. It didn't excite me that much but enough to keep my attention. Very easy to get through and perfect if you need something short and sweet without having to spend too much mental capacity Witch King by Martha Wells I do really like Martha Wells and this didn't disappoint. It was great reading some of her fantasy writing. The characters were great - I adore Kai and the people around him. The world-building is rich and the novel does not talk down to you. There was not really any exposition that would not make narrative sense, and this meant that it could be a bit hard to wrap my head around everything going on, but it was a great book and I look forward to seeing these characters again
Tumblr media
Captive Prince series by C.S Pacat Reading Dark Rising and Dark Heir made me wanna revisit the Captive Prince books as well. I can't believe it's been like 7 years since I read them! I still really enjoy them. The political intrigue in especially the last two books is great, and returning to them was wonderful.

May Monthly Reading Wrap-Up
I read four books this month. ✨
1. The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood — ★ 5/5 stars ★
2. Winter’s Orbit, Everina Maxwell — ★ 4/5 stars ★
3. The Darkness Outside Us, Eliot Schrefer — ★ 4.5/5 stars ★
4. The Charm Offensive, Alice Cochrun — ★ 4/5 stars ★
Happy Pride! Today is also the one year anniversary of this blog! In honor of the occasion, I updated the web version, so it’s acceptable — or at the very least, tolerable — for those of you who use tumblr web. <3
We also reached 500+ followers this month! Welcome to those of you who are new. My asks are always open, so don’t hesitate to leave me an ask or comment. <3
Keep reading for my unsolicited opinion on what I read this month.
2. Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell
Winter’s Orbit had galactic politics, mystery, and, of course, romance. It had all of my favorite tropes: queer arranged marriage, gruding allies to lovers, only one bed, and forced proximity. Kiem and Taam’s relationship was full of angst and misunderstanding, but contained surprising depth. Although the mystery was not as complex as their relationship, it provided the perfect backdrop for these grudging allies to fall in love.
3. The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer
I picked up The Darkness Outside Us for the slow burn enemies to lovers romance — which it delivered! — but I stayed for the spectacular science-fiction thriller. The mystery of their existence forces Ambrose and Kodiak to depend on one another in a brilliant depiction of human fragility, vulnerability, and intimacy. The Darkness Outside Us argues for the need for vulnerability and intimacy (in whatever form it should take, whether it be platonic, romantic, and/or sexual) in order to prevent insanity. It also argues that we should accept the inevitability of death as we must die in order for future generations to live. Ultimately, it is not a romance, thriller, or mystery, but a poignant portrayal of life, death, and the depth of human connection.
4. The Charm Offensive by Alice Cochrun
The Charm Offensive portrayed love after heartbreak, vulnerability, and intimacy. Dev and Charlie’s relationship felt incredibly real, despite the fact that it was set against the backdrop of a heavily-faked reality TV show. I appreciated the sensitive depiction of depression, anxiety, and OCD. I also appreciated the demisexual representation. Altogether, it was a wonderfully wholesome read.
