(reading lotr)
Glóin looked at Frodo and smiled. 'You were very fond of Bilbo were you not?' he asked.
'Yes,' he answered. 'I would rather see him than all the towers and places in the world.'
(me in the corner of the room, crying, sobbing, on the ground)

Folks… I have finished Fellowship of the Ring.
Spoilers below.
Oh boy. If you saw an earlier post of mine, you’d know that I knew of Boromir’s death (unfortunately) going into reading the whole thing, but what I did NOT know was that it was in Fellowship??
My poor bean (that’s another bad pun).
Also just like… the way the fall of Lothlorien ties into how so much land was forever destroyed by the wars of Tolkien’s time (WWI/II). There’s just no way to return to what was Before. I don’t know if the connection is deliberate but it feels like it is. And ugh, Galadriel back with the awesome one liners. I’ll miss her.
Points for Sam for actually hiking it over to Frodo on the boat.
I hate to see the Fellowship break up but I get why it happened and why it even needed to happen. I just hope that we see Arwen and Eowyn soon because of it. Frothing at the mouth over those two I swear. (Where is the shieldmaiden??? Women!!!)
Onto the Two Towers for even more pain and despair‼️
Last thing: It’s been so nice to be back in a book fandom. I think I mentioned it in a tag, but especially one that’s so fleshed out with worldbuilding is just such a nice change after streamline (my followers know this) nothing but danmei and thai BLs for like, a few years now. I feel like I’m getting some analytical braincells back while simultaneously losing them all over again due to screaming over these characters internally. Just… ✨LITERATURE✨.

I've started reading LotR to my kiddo after finishing The Hobbit. I love doing the voices, but the scene in the beginning in which Bilbo doesn't want to give up the ring hits a bit differently when you are also trying to get a loved one into rehab for addiction.

the thing about lord of the rings is that YES the books are 1,031 pages long (excluding the appendices) YES the movies are almost 12 hours long in total (extended versions) BUT it’s still not enough. i need more of my little guys. i wish there were 1,031 more pages to read. why couldn’t tolkien have done that....for ME!!!

i love and cannot stop thinking about how in the month or two leading up to my 30th bday i’ve been consuming all the media i liked at age 13
i didn’t like myself very much as a middle schooler but in retrospect i think my middle school self was very cool, if awkward, and i know that she would have loved who i am today
it’s very healing to feel this way
also i’m going home for my bday weekend and nicki is also gonna come visit and it’s so nice to be able to spend this major bday with my loved ones 😭

tweens. the irresponsible twenties. when i was little i thought that ridiculous. now that i am in my twenties i think ah yes they should be the irresponsible twenties. not even going to think i’m ‘behind on being an adult’ until i’m at least thirty three. perhaps even fifty!

I find it fascinating that they let Legolas go on the journey, because speaking in terms of politics, letting the only known Prince of Mirkwood go on a life-threatening journey to Mordor, presumably, without letting the king of Mirkwood know, is batshit insane.
Random elf: my Lord, are we sure about this?
Elrond: Yup. Because if he does die and the mission fails, Thranduil will kill us faster than Sauron will.
