Very personal/ sensitive post
Cw/TW mentions of surgery, panic attacks and other medical conditions
I am going to be very personal in this post. I am going to talk about what I have coming up and I do not think I should brush it off saying it is not a big deal becuase it is.
In February (the 8th) I am going to have open heart surgery. With this procedure there is a 83% success rate, but with my case the cardiologist is thinking more like 79%. I have both an autoimmune disease and anemia, which are not great when you cut someone open to fix a heart.
I know I’m going to be a more sensitive and emotional during the recovery time, so I apologize if I whine or complain-I think it is natural to be sensitive during that.
My mental state will most likely fluctuate as well so again I am going to apologize in advance!
Does anyone have any recommendations about what to watch in recovery, anime, shows, etc.

Home! Sophie was very happy to see me-- this is when she calmed down enough to pose for a picture
Tumblr media
I have to give myself injections in my belly once a day for a month--something to prevent blood clots--but I am improving steadily, and other than the injections I only have one med that is mandatory to take. Plus several other "as needed" ones for various forms of pain and discomfort.
Thank you to everyone who sent stickers, advice, and encouragement. Special shout out to the person who suggested the reacher-grabber thing, which was obtainable for $10 and has come in handy several times already, and the one who suggested the watermelon game--it was the perfect level of "absorbing but not too complex" for the situation.

Vance hopper x fem!reader
Tumblr media
Warnings - child abduction, mentions of depression, blood
I decided to rewrite this because I wanted to make it longer lol. I need vance request please god I love Vance so much.
-
It had been two whole months since vance had been grabbed. And god I missed him so much. I didn’t realize until now how much I’d miss his cocky, asshole personality so much I also didn’t realize how much I loved him. I hoped and prayed I’d wake up with him beside me comforting me telling me it was just a dream. A really bad dream.
I could remember the day after he went missing like it was yesterday.
As I walked into class I notice vance wasn’t sat in his usual spot. He wasn’t there at all. I just assumed he was late or playing hooky today so I didn’t pay any mind to it. I sat in my spot and began to unpack my bag grabbing my notebook and pencils. Once the first bell rang causing the teacher to rush in it confirmed my assumption, he was playing hooky. Well until the teacher told me to go down to the principals office. My heart fell into my stomach, I was hoping, and praying it was about my grades. I walked as slowly as I could down the hallways. My hands stuffed into my pockets fidgeting with anything I could find in my pocket. Once I made it to the principals office I let out a heavy sigh before I turned the handle and pushed the door open.
As soon as I saw the detectives my heart stopped. “Y/n l/n?” Detective wright asked, I nodded as I walked over to the brown chair that was sat in front of them. “So ms l/n what are you relations with vance hopper?” He was gone. I just saw him last night, he had come over to my house to hang out, and once it was time for him to leave he insisted on walking home instead of my dad driving him.
“He’s my best friend” I mumbled as I stared down at my lap. “What happened to vance?” I asked “he didn’t return home last night, we’re assuming he was abducted by the same person who kidnapped billy showalter and Griffin stagg. We found some evidence near your house that makes us suspect that.” I nodded as I watched my hands shake in my lap.
I’d never be able to see vance again if it was true. Why didn’t Vance fight back? Vance was fully capable of beating the shit out of a grown man. “When was the last time you saw Vance?” He asked. “Last night around nine thirty” I replied detective wright nodded writing something down on his notepad. “Okay so where did you see him?”
“My house, he was about to walk home”
I spent my days riding my bike around the area, trying to find anything that would lead to the finding of my best friend. I didn’t think I’d be able to live another week without him let alone my entire life. I knocked on every door asking if they saw him. Most of them said ‘no’ some laughed saying it was a good thing he was gone cause all he brought was trouble.
It was a Tuesday afternoon, I had skipped school that day to look around town again. I slowly walked up to a red house, a picture of Vance in my hands. It was a regular looking house, one story, a tree in the front. Nothing that would raise an alarm at all. I knocked a few times on the front door until I heard a voice from inside shout. “One second!” Then the front door opened revealing a man maybe in his late forty’s maybe early fifties.
He had longer hair that reacher to about his jaw. His hair was gray at the roots and brown at the ends. “Hello, how can I help you young lady?” He asked a charming smile placed on his face. “I um just wanted to ask if you’ve seen my friend, he went missing two months ago. His name is Vance hopper.” I said handing him the picture.
He smiled and chuckled “no ma’am sorry I haven’t, but I’ll keep a look out” he said winking before handing the picture back. “Oh..thanks anyways” I said a with a frown before turning around and starting back down the sidewalk.

3rd pov
The grabber walked down the steps and towards the door to his basement. He unlocked the door, and it creeked open revealing the blonde boy curled up on the mattress placed on the floor. He was weak, weaker than the two boys he had before. Well not at the beginning the grabber had to wear Vance down until he was like this. Vance barely moved from his spot on the mattress now. At the beginning Vance was strong he almost escaped at the beginning. But the grabber wasn’t going to let that happen.
Vance’s head moved slightly just to see who had walked in, but then he laid back down realizing it was just him. “You’re friend stopped by, she misses you a lot. Almost started crying when I told her I hadn’t seen you” he laughed as he sat next to Vance crisscrossed. “She’s a pretty thing too, I might take her next” he grabbed Vance’s chin and lifted it up so Vance was staring up at him. If he said that two months ago Vance would’ve probably killed the grabber, but Vance could hardly walk now. The grabber took his time with Vance. Vance scowled as a tear fell down his cheek.
“Maybe if you were a good boy I’d let you go” the grabber let go of Vance’s chin and grabbed a chunk of his hair “but you’re not, so..” he then pulled until a chunk was ripped out. Vance wimpered as his head fell back onto the mattress. He just wanted to go home, see his mom, see y/n. He felt like a baby for crying, ‘boys don’t cry’ that’s what his dad always said. But here he was sobbing into the mattress as the grabber laughed at him.
-
Y/n’s pov
I almost started crying as I walked back towards my bike. I missed him so much, why couldn’t I just find him. I spent weeks and weeks asking everyone who lived in this shitty town, after a few weeks I ran out of houses so I just checked again and again.
On a Friday evening I had came back to that red house, it was late about seven thirty so I was just going to ask and leave no chit chat.
I walked up to the door and knocked a few times. “I’m coming!” Shouted the man, once he opened the door he smiled “oh hello there” I gave him a fake smile and asked “have you seen my friend?” He shook his head giving me a frown. “I’m sorry honey I haven’t.”
“Oh” I mumbled as I was about to turn around he said “how bout you come in, It’s getting late, I can give you a soda and then drive you home. How does that sound.” It wasn’t safe I knew it but I wasn’t going to let down a ride especially after what happened to vance. “Um sure” I said nodding, he smiled and let me in.
I followed him into the kitchen, there was one chair that sat in the hallway just a few feet away from a stairwell. It was strange but I just shrugged it off. He pulled out a chair and said “sit I’ve gotta go do something then I’ll get you your soda” he said with a grin on his face. I nodded taking a seat as I watched him walk past the chair and down the stairs.
-
3rd pov
The grabber walked down the stairs. He wasn’t planning on hurting y/n he just wanted to admire her. He wasn’t going to hurt her until after vance past. He unlocked the door and opened it. Vance was still laid in the same spot, blood and bruises covered his body. “She’s here” he said as he closed the door. He walked over to vance and took a seat next to him. “D-don’t hurt her” vance whispered, “I’m not, we’ll at least not yet I’m just going to admire her right now” the grabber said nonchalantly. “Please don’t hurt her” vance said with tears in his eyes.
Vance hadn’t stopped crying since he got here, he wanted to leave. “I said I’m not” the grabber laughed. “But I will hurt you if you scream when I open that door” he said grabbing Vance’s chin with a bruising grip. “Do you understand?” Vance nodded “yes” “good boy” the grabber coo’d before standing up.
-
Y/n’s pov
I fiddled with my fingers as I waited for the man to return. Only about ten minutes later he returned, a grin on his face. “So what’s your name sweetheart?” He asked as he opened up the fridge. “Y/n my names y/n” I replied. He returned to the table with a bottle of soda and a bottle opener. “So y/n how old are you?” He asked as he popped open the soda and handed it to me. “Four-fourteen” I replied before taking a sip of the sprite. “Wow fourteen I remember when I was fourteen” he laughed.
I nodded uncomfortably as I took another sip. “You miss your friend a lot don’t you?” I nodded as I stared down at the table, “I bet he misses you a lot too” my eyebrows furrowed together as I looked up at him. “how bout we get you home? Don’t want you’re parents getting too worried.” He winked. I nodded and we both got up and I followed him out and to his black van. “So where do you Liv hon?” He asked as I hopped up in his van. “Um lemon street 5431” I replied.
His van came to a slow stop in front of my house, “I hope to see you again y/n” I nodded as I hopped out of the car and walked towards my house. I opened the front door to see my dad sitting on the couch watching tv. “Where have you been?” He asked, “looking for Vance” I said as I took a seat next to him. He hummed nodding “just be careful alright?” He said. I nodded “I am I promise.”
-
About two weeks later they had gotten a lead from Gwen Blake. She claimed to be having realistic dreams and knew the house where vance was at.
So that’s why I’m sitting in the back seat of detective wrights car with Gwen beside me. We turned down the street where the red house was. My heart stopped in my chest as we stopped in front of it. I was so close the whole time. The detectives got out and we followed behind them. “Stay there” they said as we stopped in front of the fence. I watched as they walked into I crossed my fingers hoping Gwen’s dreams were right. I hoped he was here and alive.
It was the longest ten minutes I’d ever endured. Standing there fidgeting, hoping, praying he was here. Then there he was slowly limping out with the help of detective miller. I gasped before running towards him. He collapsed in my arms when I hugged him. “Vance!” I gasped tears streaming down my face. Blood and dirt covered his body, and chunks of his hair was missing. That asshole was doing this to him.
His arms wrapped around my torso barely squeezing me but just enough so I knew he was there. I gripped at his clothes trying not to let go. I was scared that if I did he’s disappear. He didn’t talk he just sobbed into my shoulder. “Come on kid we’ve gotta get you to the hospital” detective miller said. Then detective wright walked out with the grabber in front of him his. His hands were in handcuffs as detective wright led him to his car. He winked at me as he walked by causing me to grip vance a bit tighter. “Can I go with him?” I asked detective miller nodded and I helped.
-
Vance and I sat in his hospital bed, his head leaning on my shoulder. “I missed you so much vance” I mumbled. “I missed you too” he whispered, “I thought I lost you vance” I said softly as I leaned my head onto his. “I thought I’d never see you again” my bottom lip wobbled as tears welled up in my eyes. “Me too” he replied burrowing his face into my neck. I felt warm tears touch my neck and then slide down my shirt wetting it in the process. I didn’t say anything I knew he needed to cry especially after what he had been through in the past two months.
“I think I love you y/n” my eyebrows furrowed together as I muttered “huh?” He lifted his head so he could make eye contact with me. His eyes were red and his cheeks were tear stained. “I think I love you” I smiled softly as I hugged him. I buried my head into the crook of his neck
“I think I love you too”

[A package is delivered to Isa’s apartment early in the morning, literally stuffed to the brim with every sort of chocolate imaginable- really really really good chocolate. At the bottom of the box is a frame wrapped in bubblewrap. Inside is a watercolor painting of Isa and Maggie based on a picture that had been taken forever ago. There is also a little card on the top with a T-Rex holding two reacher grabber tools and says ‘I love you this much’.]

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!!
[User answers the door in her pajamas and is taken aback for a moment. She hurriedly takes the package to her bed and starts to go through it, the painting making her especially giddy. She has the best friend in the world and nothing could convince her otherwise. She does plan to share the chocolate when she sees Maggie later.]

Hey, do you or your followers have any recourses on fire alarms for disabled (especially mobility challenged) people? I’ve seen a lot of the posts about what to do in an actual emergency, but I live in student housing (privately-owned building, just right next to the college and geared towards students) and the fire alarm is going off for no reason at least a couple of times a month
If the fire alarm is going off "for no reason", that could be down to a number of things. My first thought was that the batteries might need changing, but this article explains other issues in a bit more detail and how to deal with them. I'd also recommend maybe calling the local fire department for advice about it.
Also on that note, they'll likely be able to give you better advice on accessible fire alarms in general maybe ways to fit them.
I haven't been able to find much on fire alarms designed with mobility impairments in mind, but I have seen some references to remote-controlled alarms. I don't even if or how they work, but, again, I would recommend contacting your local fire department/safety team.
I put out a post yesterday asking for advice- I'll link it at the bottom- but some of the things that came up were:
A grabber/reacher of some kind
Velcro strips
Call the fire department
There was also some excellent information on fire alarms in general i.e. how often you should be changing your batteries, and a note on wired fire alarms and how they are mounted.
You can read the replies yourself here.
I'm sorry but that's all I've got at the moment. My main advice would be to call the fire department for better advice or the landlord/building supervisor.
I hope you manage to get the issue sorted!

true story. for my birthday this year i asked for a wagon, some buckets, and a grabber/reacher tool (yes, I know it’s weird). yesterday I set out to do my weekly street sweeping. usually hitting the street I live on, plus the main entry road into the neighborhood. as you can see from the second image, it sometimes can be quite a bit. I digress, yesterday a car pulled up alongside me... and a neighbor jumped out and exclaimed how appreciative she was, and how great I was, and that I needed to take this money. she shoved $100 Dollars into my hand. I was flabbergasted, embarrassed, befuddled, plus any number of emotions. I said, “thank you very much, but I do this for my own pleasure... and I do not need any money, or do this expecting money. I’m just trying to be a good citizen.” She refused the return of the money, jumped into her car, and drove off waving goodbye. so I have decided to use the money to buy more supplies when needed. I still feel strange about it. tom
