A9 “PLANET NINE” Interview with Visulog 2018.04.25 (Part 2)

Ken also thought, "There were still things that couldn't be fully communicated to us with just F+IX=YOU", and we felt that this relationship should continue in the future.

Q: The third song "FIVE JOKER" felt like it was the "royal road number" of A9.

Nao: This is Hiroto's original song, but I think he often brings in songs that represent the face of A9.

Tora: I understand what Nao says. The roles for each part of this spng are clearly separated and Hiroto is good at making such songs. I think this is what the visual kei band of our generation sounds like and I think if you've lived in that era, "FIVE JOKER" will surely pierce (into your memory).

Q: The powerful drum is also very impressive, isn't it?

Nao: I imagined a powerful and fast-paced play like anisong and I was able to hit the drums pretty comfortably. When I sent the recording data to Hiroto by saying, "Isn't it cool?", he immediately replied, "Cool!" (laughs)

Q: And the 4th song of the album is the lead song, "UNREAL" is the second one produced by Ken just like "F+IX=YOU", right?

Tora: Ken also thought, "There were still things that couldn't be fully communicated to us with just F+IX=YOU", and we felt that this relationship should continue in the future.

Q: For the production of "UNREAL", did you have any conversation related to the concept etc.?

Nao: If "F+IX=YOU" is the bright side, this song should push out the dark side of A9, that was the suggestion we got from Ken.

Tora: Accepted that suggestion, we then combined my and Saga's demo composition with the given idea from Ken while thinking, "Let's make this song kinda ethnic!"

Nao: Hiroto contacted all the members saying, "Ken is trying to make this song exotic." But when I met Ken in person later and listened to him properly, Hiroto mistaken ethnic for exotic (laughs).

Tora: When I first heard Hiroto said that, I thought, "What the hell is an exotic song?!" (laughs)

Q: Was the rhythm of "UNREAL" which is rare for A9, also inspired by Ken's image of "ethnic"?

Nao: It was Ken's idea indeed. But I felt unsatisfied with just that, so I added Tora's main phrase and became like, "Oh, it's ethnic!" The impact is huge, isn't it?

Q: Speaking of impact, let's not forget the existence of Saga's rap part.

Tora: I was wondering if this will come out earlier (laughs). But during "Zekkeishoku" era, there have been parts where Saga sings, so it's not a weird thing for the other members.

Nao: I also recorded a song program the other day, but Saga's rap is in full length. Maybe Saga thinks "I'm Saga right now!" (laughs).

Q: Is "UNREAL" MV directed by Tora?

Tora: All the editing was done by me, and the recording was done by the double director method with another director. A female model was introduced to us, she acted as a guard and we shot it with the image of a world view in which each member is trapped in a fashionable atmosphere, so I would like you to enjoy the atmosphere around that as well.

Q: The following song "CASTLE OF THE NINE", all of you finally put down your instruments and taking the lead vocal parts. You've made some resolutions.

Tora: Wasn't it a resolution? It's Saga's idea.

Nao: We recorded "UNDEAD PARTY" member vocal version as the coupling song of "Re:Born" single. That was well received and so I thought, "Well then, why don't we all sing?!"

Tora: If it's going to be done anyways, then we shall give the best of us.

Nao: Theoretically speaking, the title has that "clubbing" feeling (laughs).

Q: I think it was a courageous approach for a rock band to put down the instruments and sing. But how was that really?

Tora: I'm not young anymore, you know. Anything happens in this career is basically an ant.

Nao: I thought, "Ah, I finally got to sing!!" (laughs).

Everyone: (laughs hard)

Q: The sixth song which is also a single song "PENDULUM", it felt like the charm of heavy and serious A9 is pushed out.

Tora: This song may have a color that close to the previous work "IDEAL".

Nao: When I hear it now, it's fast and intense. Many of the newly written songs of "PLANET NINE" are eccentric, so I think that the whole album is tightened by firm pillars in the form of the single song like this. It's an A9-like song.

Q: It is an impression that the world of the album will be dug deeper from here with "PENDULUM" as a turning point. Whose original song is "Sonata"?

Tora: This is a song that Saga has been warming up for a long time. The guitar is devoted to the minimum play to push out the song itself and the synths.

Nao: Even from the demo phase, it was pretty solid. The drums were well built, so I was also particular about the details especially hi-hat part. By the way, the next song "Neophilia" is also one of Saga's sleeping song series.

Tora: Actually in the past, "Neophilia" prototype was once put out in the band. There was a demo song of this (Neophilia) when we did selection for the song "RAINBOWS". At that time we thought, "This song (Neophilia) can't be expressed well by ourselves now," thus the song "RAINBOWS" was born instead. Even if I listen to the demo from that time again, it's still feel like new.

Q: The word "Neophilia" means "liking new things". Is there any personal obsession of you two now?

Nao: It's guitar collecting. I also play the guitar at personal events, but there are a lots of things I don't know so it's kinda fun. Oh and, Thirty One Shake is delicious (laughs) Note: Thirty One Shake is a Baskin Robin ice cream variant.

Tora: Is there such thing?

Nao: It tastes wonderful so I recommend it to you.

Tora: For me maybe it's Taco home delivery. The crispy one, that's also delicious.

Kim MinJi nace en 1994, en Daejeon, Corea del Sur. Pasa sus primeros años siendo reservada, fingiendo-no-fingir sonrisas. La presión se suma a ella cuando sus padres le echan en cara, siempre que pueden, lo importante que es hacerse de un buen futuro, por lo que termina obligándose a sacar buenas notas durante sus años escolares. como de cuento y película cliché, el amor se le termina trepando por el cuerpo y poco a poco se ve envuelta en lo que cree amor. HyungGu aprende a gatear con ella, pero minji no tarda en darse cuenta de que el hilo del que cuelgan está demasiado débil. TaeHee entonces aparece y se vuelve su soporte, y tal vez, su primer amor.

B) ETAPA MEDIA:

Las inseguridades se vuelven un problema de todos los días. El tic-tac del reloj no ve final y MinJi piensa constantemente en si es mejor renunciar al sueño que la ata a seguir intentando. Las dietas no le alcanzan para asegurarse un lugar dentro de una empresa musical tan grande como lo es la de Corea y está casi segura de que no alcanzará a tocar el cielo. Sin embargo, lo logra. Conoce a cuatro mitades suyas, y también se involucra con un nuevo amor, que solo consigue traer a la realidad el fantasma de TaeHee.

La frustración es real. Pedazo a pedazo comienzan a caer sus planes y se siente insuficiente por no poder cumplir la promesa que le ha hecho a sus cuatro almas gemelas: ser un grupo reconocido y que renueve las expectativas de todo Corea. Se siente ahogarse en el viento. No respira, pero tampoco tiene ánimos de hacerlo. El amor al mismo tiempo se le escapa y sin querer queriendo, también sale corriendo su amor propio. Se desconoce tan bien que ya no recuerda su nombre. Cuando MinJi está a punto de tirar la toalla, llega una nueva oportunidad y dos mitades más la complementan. HanDong y GaHyeon se unen a MINX en una nueva era. DREAMCATCHER nace y también, una nueva visión de su historial.
