a dying dior laying on the floor trying not to think about the pain, and wondering instead if he will go to the halls of mandos with nimloth or if he will go to wherever his parents went. wondering where his children are and if they will survive. all the loss and bitterness and all the life cut violently short... anger stirs weakly within him, but it's no use. it's too late.
with one last effort, he looks down at celegorm's blood on his sword, and the smallest of smirks tugs at his mouth. at least he has taken lúthien's revenge. at least he has done something with his short reign.

Okay, but hear me out:
Lord Azaghâl of Belegost
with a silly little crush on a certain Lord of Himring
and then he meets a certain prince of Noldor
and then we have Azaghâl with a silly not-so-little heartbreak after he finds out that Mae and Finno are married
(and then he supports them during the Nirnaeth)
(be like Azaghâl)

Míriel was the name of his mother. Her hair was like silver; and she was slender as a white flower in the grass. Soft and sweet was her voice, and she sang as she worked, like rippling water, in music without words. For her hands were more skilled to make things fine and delicate than any other hands even among the Noldor. By her the craft of needles was devised; and if but one fragment of the broideries of Míriel were seen in Middle-earth it would be held dearer than a king's realm; for the richness of her devices and the fire of their colours were as manifold and as bright as the wealth of leaf and flower and wing in the fields of Yavanna. Therefore she was called Serinde.
History of Middle-earth Vol. X: Morgoth's Ring, The Later Quenta Silmarillion (II), Of Finwë and Míriel 4, §3

So obviously I don’t condone kinslaying
However if I had had transcendent sex with Fingon and then he got beaten into a pulp by Balrogs I can’t say I wouldn’t have committed some minor genocide

there is really nothing funnier than amazon looking at properties to adapt into profitable tv shows and stopping at lord of the rings and fucking fallout

Personally, I think re-reading The Silmarillion after having watched s1 of The Rings of Power (twice) is kinda the best thing you could do, because now all those names finally have faces assigned to them. Sure, the show doesn't follow the book to a t, but, you know Finrod? Galadriel's favourite brother? Well, he was there when Beren set out to get one of the Silmaril, Finrod not only joined Beren on the quest but gave his life to defend this mortal man! You know the Ring of Barahir that Aragon wears later on in the 3rd Age? It was once Finrod`s and came as a token of friendship into the possession of Beren´s line!!!!!!!
Sorry, but that is awesome.

here’s a silm-specific fic trope: post-rescue from Thangorodrim fics! (It has its own tag and everything)
Ahh I have no idea. I have never read one. I KNOW! But up until a very short time ago (namely: reading this story and having both my life and my appreciation for Fëanorians changed by it), I simply did not care about Maedhros enough to care to read fics about him. I didn't dislike him; I just didn't care. (I KNOW.) So I have no idea!
But I'm going to grade it a B- because I feel like probably there's not going to be a lot of originality going on in most of those fics (this is not meant as shade btw! sometimes you have to Write The Obvious, it's important and there's a reason why some things get written over and over. also I literally tagged one of my recent fics "the obligatory post-Helm's Deep bathing together fic" so like. I'm definitely the last person who should be throwing shade for "lack of originality" as though that were a BAD thing lmao. it's not.) and a fair amount of them probably just go the basic hurt/comfort route without much depth of character or thought which isn't really my jam — but the best of them are probably VERY emotionally fraught and beautifully agonizing because that is definitely a good situation to build a fic off. (Hence why it's been written enough to have it's own tag. Which I love, btw. That is the sign of a healthy fandom. Brava, Silm-writers.)
So it sounds like a Good Trope that probably gets Overdone Like Whoah, which would make it hard to pick through and find the really good ones...but no doubt very rewarding and worthwhile when you do. Because that is how the Everyone And Their Mother Has Written This Scene fics tend to go, I think: lots of stories that are repetitive enough to get dull when you read a lot of them (and you will read a lot of them when it involves a character you like, because there's a reason why Everyone And Their Mum has written their own take on that story), even when they're perfectly valid and delightful on their own individual merits, but then precisely because they're such a commonly done thing, you every now and then get one that's either such an unexpected-yet-perfect twist that it knocks you out of the park — or one that's simply so exquisitely written that the fact that it's "repetitive" is in fact a strength, because that familiarity serves to ground and highlight how breathtakingly beautiful the words in this one are.

ftr I followed you for the shipping post and then stayed for the geography and the anarchy
(I can't remember the Silmarillion at all and I was always way more into LotR but I find that exact type of nerdery very relatable and delightful)
No idea why you followed my weird hodgepodge sideblog back but I hope you're enjoying it there I guess? :D
:)) well I don't know what I'm doing here but I'm glad it's working!
