It's 1985. Senior Auror Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody has just taken trainee Nymphadora Tonks under his wing, when his colleague Amelia Bones comes to him with surprising news: Harry Potter has been found! And almost as importantly so are the last wills of the Potters, which state that as Harry's godfather Sirius Black is currently missing, custody should go to Moody, instead of Lily Potter's muggle sister.

The Ministry is still in upheaval, with Dumbledore's explosive rise to power as Chief Warlock and leader of the Liberals in the Wizengamot, starting to finally implement his political agenda, while the apparent demise of the Dark Lord has left dark wizards, the Traditionalists, reeling under the shaky leadership of Lucius Malfoy, who has barely avoided Azkaban himself. Following the death of Orion Black in 1979, his father Arcturus Black has become the patriarch of the House of Black again, trying to steer them into safer and more neutral waters in the new political climate.

Moody is left more paranoid and alone than ever before, trying to keep the Boy Who Lived safe and away from curious eyes. And perhaps do some parenting on the side? No? And is Voldemort still alive? Meanwhile Harry just wants some friends.
