Happy new year 2595, everyone - Team Ratatösk is giving their LARP debut in the end of January, and three or four Hellvetics are going. That means it’s crafting time!

Lore dictates that every Hellvetic has a Trailblazer. I, Jünger, did not really need one when I was playing the auxiliary soldier Staub (†), and I did not know if her successor would be enough fun to get one. Turns out, playing Jünger is a lot of fun; so I got me a NERF Rapidstrike and gave it a case mod. It doesn’t need to fire in game, but it will need sound, which is the project I was waiting for to get into electronics. So Jünger will be fumbling forward off-game and keep you posted eventually.

Moreover, the padded parts of the Hellvetic costume need to be “refreshed”, since thin coats of acrylic color don’t survive being mashine washed. This time, I’m using fabric paint to add a bit of depth and grunge. Let’s see how it fares...

Brindleshade

Family: Rapidstrike (father), Addersnout (mother) Gender / Sexuality: tom / bi-curious Personality: good boy, jumpy, excitable, anxious, wants to do a good job Backstory: Brindleshade always wanted to be a medicine cat. He wants to heal, to help, and watching his mentor only made him more certain that was his role. His mentor was Mumblestripe, a gay tom who saw all the clan as his kits, often talking to them like he was their father. Brindleshade loved the love he had for the clan, and knew he had that much love in his heart too. He’s super anxious about doing a good job, wanting everyone to feel calm in his presence. He does tend to work himself into a panic, often spiraling when left alone with his thoughts. Because of this, the clan members often will find an excuse to spend the day with him, Yarrowtuff usually tasking a few cats a day to spend time with Brindle to help his anxiety. He knows they do it, even though they dont tell him, and he’s thankful. He will often utilize the extra help to get tasks done, or to go check on other cats. They keep him focused.  With a new apprentice under his wing, Brindleshade wants to do good, and help set her up for success. Except Meadowbreath is like the crazy best friend who always gets black out drunk at parties. She’s curious, likes to explore, and gets lost in thought. It drives Brindleshade crazy, often worrying about her. Thankfully he can often send Yarrow or Lichen after their sister if he thinks she’s been gone for too long. Ideal Partner: warrior who is watching brindle grow into a proper medicine cat who thinks hes so adorable, a med cat apprentice from another clan who shares his worries, a med cat who recently took on an apprentice knowing the stress hes going through, like wine buddies Position | Clan: Medicine Cat | Thrushclan

Operation: Rapidstrike (1980) is the first Top Secret module (well, second, if you count the one in the box) and it is rad.

The villain of the piece is Genevieve Larreau, an international criminal who has kidnapped a Nobel Prize-winning chemist in order to create a hallucinogenic drug with which to “subvert western civilization” (is this so bad a goal?) and attain geo-political domination (OK, that’s bad). She’s holed up on her island fortress of death traps  and the players are tasked with infiltrating the complex and destroying her operation. It feels like every Bond movie distilled into a D&D dungeon crawl, essentially, though the vibe is very strongly “spec ops” rather than “spies.”

That’s pretty much all that needs to be said about the module. Again, there are many illustrations by classic D&D illustrators Dee, Willingham and Otis and it is fun to see them deal with spies rather than monsters. Erol makes good use of his psychedelic stylings in depicting the effect of the hallucinogen.

Favorite thing: because it is a nighttime op, Genevieve is asleep unless the alarm is raised, which is not something I often picture evil masterminds doing…
